Sandy's is the type of place that, once you find, you keep going back to. There are staple Greek items on the menu (Gyros, Souvlaki, etc..) as well as sandwiches and some "Dinner" items (Pork chops, Meatloaf, etc..). My go to item is the Pork Souvlaki since they are the only game in town as far as that goes. Sometimes it's great (juicy, perfectly charred) but sometimes...not so much (dry, tough, burnt). Thankfully the latter is the exception not the rule. I don't know if the tzatziki is homemade or brought in but I like that it's a bit understated (doesn't slam you in the face with garlic). Overall this place is good. It's the kind of establishment that's all too easy to take for granted and that every city really should have.

I have been here a few times over the years. Mostly when the mood strikes for a souvlaki platter, which is greek marinated chunks of pork or chicken served with taziki sauce, a greek salad, fries and pita bread. The place is small and could use some updating. The service can be spotty at times, but not terrible. They have bands several nights a week and a bar with reasonably priced beer. If 3.5 stars was an option, that would be my rating.

Tasty and inexpensive! We ordered one souvlaki platter ($10) and one gyro platter ($10). They both had one pita bread, a very nice size Greek salad, crinkle-cut fries, the BEST Tzaziki sauce I have ever had, and a generous portion of meat. We did take-out so I can't say anything about service and the only reason I've taken away one star is that I would love to have more options like moussaka (my favorite), avgolemono, and kataifi (favorite Greek dessert).

Casual place. The bar is the dominant feature in the room. The food is pretty good though it always strikes me as odd that the Greek food comes with fries. Service is friendly but forgetful ... as in "I already took your order, didn't I?" or "Didn't I already give you your check?". It's still worth the trip.

used to eat there. service always great. food not. last time wife's and my food was dry. commented courteously. reply was "you're the 1st. to complain about that". Terrific! I don't need that information; but the place needed mine. owner at cash register NEVER says "thank you", and NEVER smiles. Phooey. There are many other similarly mediocre restaurants that are more appreciative.

went there as my wife is greek and they serve both greek and american food. they also had their regular wed. night band who were friends. was not expecting much by first impressions but was i wrong! the food was great! i had the sovakie platter which had wonderful tazekie sauce, as good as in greece and my wife had eggplant parm. and it was really large helping. will be back for sure and try more of the menu.

There are all sorts of reasons for giving a restaurant four stars - and when you live nearby and are new in town, friendliness counts for sure. Exhausted from a cross-country move, Spouse and I made our first visit to Sandy's. The servers were genuinely friendly, feeling like they were welcoming us into their home -- and we've had the same feeling every time we've visited. Sandy himself is a bit of a learning experience, I've heard him be grumpy with his employees -- but they seem to deal with it like a healthy family, teasing and laughing it off. On our first visit, Sandy's is in a little scruffy strip mall -- it helps to know where you're heading. Expect to find regulars ready to say hey, and be prepared for a large amount of food on your plate. Spouse ordered the chicken salad and I the roast pork sandwich, both of which were . . . okay. (If you do go for the sandwich, be sure to ask to have it with pickles, which makes it a whole different experience.) I should say that we haven't tried the Greek food yet, but from what I've seen (on the plates of other diners, yes I do look at what other people are eating) that's something I'll get to soon. What really stands out at Sandys is the soup. I've tried Sandy's basic chicken soup and his Friday special, a slightly spicy Manhattan clam chowder. Both make it on my "gotta have again" list, with the chowder being a high probability of "gotta have it every week." But based on these two soups, I'll try whatever he's serving. (For those with enquiring minds, I should add that the rest rooms would benefit from a coat of paint and a more thorough cleaning. They're not gross, mind you, but . . . )

This is a great place to relax with friends in the NW edge of Gainesville, close to El Indio. Love this area. I highly recommend the naked chicken wings, gyro sandwich and the spaghetti. My best friend who introduced me to this place says the meat loaf is some of the best she has had. I have yet to try it but eventually I will even though the idea of a meat loaf is not that appealing to me. I hope that doesn't make me sound shi shi foo foo. Anyway, check them out.

Bangin tuna sandwich! Located In a strip mall on 34th street by YMCA. The tuna sandwich has celery in it too which I like. This place is pretty popular for the area, especially for lunch. The grilled cheese and fries too... grilled cheese is hard to mess up. The hamburger is okay. The Italian sub I've heard is really good. The meatballs are really good. They are real meatballs- made there. Not the frozen ones you get at most places.

Not living on this side of town Sandy's was always an after thought for lunch or dinner. We were planning on doing a roadtrip to Tarpon Springs. But with price of gas and just having lots of other things to do I suggested trying Sandy's. I've read reviews online about Sandy's having greek food. Here's our experience. Went to lunch on Saturday arriving around 2pm for a late lunch. The place was fairly empty. Walked in the door, sign says seat yourself. We walked up to the booth section, noticing almost every booth seat was old and had huge rips in the seats repaired with blue duct tape. We picked the booth with the best seats we could spot. Our waitress was attentive at first. But a pet peeve I have is when the server does not come by and check how things are going and fill our waters. My water sat empty long enough that it forced me to get up and grab the pitcher of water on the counter. Our waitress was just sitting down at the end looking back every so often. We perused the menu, selecting to order and appetizer, and two entrees. I asked our server if the grape leaves were homemade. She said no, that's about the only item that's not made in house. So we ordered the greek combo appetizer plate. Grape leaves, feta cheese, olives and tomatoes. It was just ok, nothing you couldn't make better at home with stuff from publix. My gyro came out. I had asked the waitress for extra Tzatziki sauce which was not on it. It was just ok. I'd give it a 5 on a 10 scale. The price was $8 for a gyro and fries. Sandy's has been in that strip mall forever. I'm sure they have their regulars. But it really is a run down hole. The only reason I'm not giving them 1 star is their prices are good for the quantity and quality of food they are serving. Again it's not great greek, just average. Probably would have given them 3 stars if the service and atmosphere (new seats) were improved. Hadn't been here in my 18 years living in Gainesville, and I we won't be rushing back.

Actually the place is better then I expected. The food was all I called the fresh-cut and cooked properly. I think the place is been around for over 20 years. The place could use a big update in atmosphere and there is on tape stuck on a booths that are torn. The repair and maintenance of the place has been poor. Except for that and the lack of excellent service the food is fairly good and much better than the Pita pit. Okay but the Pita pit or PD keen doesn't have service anyway so I guess that makes it better. If you're looking for a great Greek salad or gyeo try Sandy's place on 34th it's definitely worth the money and has a lot of food for what you get. Nothing spectacular big see him expectations given the fact that when I walked and it was role totally discombobulated. By the time I left there were at least 10 tables that had people sitting at them. Bathrooms were not great but I did not go over there for the bathrooms!

I wouldn't necessarily recommend eating in the restaurant unless you are wanting to eat at a bar like place. But the food is decent enough. There really aren't any other Greek options here in Gainesville to my knowledge, so I would go back on occasion but would do take out. Service isn't great. That is part of what brought it down to 3 stars. The gyro was a 3.5 as it was a little oily although my husband said his was not. Good price though because the sandwich is big. Spinach pie was good, like a 4, but a little pricy for the portion in my opinion. Lollipop appetizer: not worth it.

This place really is a dive, but in a cool funky divey sort of way. Luckily, other reviewers mention that it is behind the El Indio or I might never have found it. I will tell you, it probably is not the kind of place to take a first date ... at least not if you intend to get a second date, but it is not too bad of a place with a bunch of friends. First the good: the cheese sticks were probably the best cheese sticks I have ever had. They were perfectly fresh, nearly burned my mouth, and were great. I asked that the fries be cooked until they were crispy (because imho crinkle cut fries are gross when limp) and they came out perfect as well. The gyro sandwich was not anything to write home about, but was good. The server was really funny, and the service and food was delivered promptly. Now for the bad. The place had a greasy smell when we walked in, and not only that but it was one of those stalker smells. I mean, it followed me back home, and I had to change clothes and shower to get rid of the smell. Not the best experience. They really need to improve ventilation, give the place a good scrubbing, and do something about the stalker smell. I probably won't come back, the food was good, but the smell was off putting. Although, I might send my BFF in for carry out ... that would solve the smell problem (for me anyway).

I've been to Sandy's Place lots of times because they have THE best wings in ALL THE LAND! I'm not really one for writing reviews, but today I felt like I should. I got to Sandy's around 2:30 pm so it wasn't their busiest time of day...as soon as I walked in, I realized I had forgotten my phone and was expecting a call so I walked back out to turn on the car to make sure my phone was charging...but it didn't turn on..it just clicked..no lights..no motor...no anything. I have AAA but feel pretty certain I have used up all of my benefits for the year. I walked back inside, unsure of what to do, it was getting ready to storm and I was stranded on my lunch hour. Sandy saw me and asked me what was wrong. He is often mistaken by people as being gruff. He is a TEDDY BEAR! He came outside and had me pop the hood...he wiggled something and my car started right up. Talk about amazing customer service. As always, the wings were spot on...just perfect...but Sandy coming to my rescue today just made my whole day better. I will forever be a patron of this awesome neighborhood place and a fan of Sandy.

This place has been around forever and is really needing to be remodeled badly. That being said, I can't find a better Pastitsio anywhere.

Arrived at 840pm. The waitress came out in the parking lot and said they were closing at 9pm and the kitchen was closed. This also happened last week. This is a real shame, this is a great restAurant. But I guess I should take comfort knowing they can afford to turn away parties of 6 and 9 people.

Three and a half stars. The food is tasty for such a run down looking place. I love the mushroom Swiss burger. Wings are good if you order in. Not so great for takeout. I don't go as often as I'd like because my wife thinks it's too unattractive inside.

yep, it looks sketchy as hell from the outside. It's in a run down little strip mall between a salon and a dry cleaner's, next to Family Dollar. Parking kinda sucks. BUT look past all that and go inside. You will not be disappointed. The food is really fresh, simple and the prices are modest. There actually is a Sandy, which I find endearing. He is Greek, and his Gyros and other assortment of Greek offerings are the real deal. But, if you're not a fan of Greek food there are so many other options! The French Dip sandwich is my go-to, but they make a really decent burger. Their wings were a wonderful discovery-crispy skin, tender meat and a spicy, flavorful sauce. I order mine "naked", with the sauce on the side, so I can dip. Heavenly! It's a great spot for a weeknight dinner (I've never been on weekends, but I see that they have live music) Their specials change all the time, and if I remember correctly, they make their soups of the day in-house. The waitresses are the best, too. They're friendly, welcoming and give you an old-school "whaddya want, honey?" as a greeting. Love it! I don't want them to change a thing, not even the duct tape on the faux leather booths!

The gyros are great! My boyfriend gets the hamburgers and he loves them. I even got my best friend addicted to this place. She got the chicken philly and loved it. The food portions are good and very filling. :)

It will look like a hole in the wall, but come for the very good Greek food. Decor will not impress, but try the food and your mind will be blown. The menu has Greek items and traditional American food at good prices. Daily specials are worth reviewing. I got the Greek Special (Greek salad, gyro meat, and pita wedges) and my wife got the pork souvlaki wrap with fries. Both were really good, and we will be back. DISCLAIMER: This area is a desert for Greek food so perhaps we are overrating a bit due to lack of like competition, but I'm pretty sure that's not all that has our socks off.

Family favorite! Love the pasticcio & spinach pie. Wings are different but good, we get them plain & breaded with sauce on the side. The gyro pita & platter are both great as well.

This place has basic, good Greek food and it's a lot closer than Tarpon Springs if you live in Gville. Don't take the kids too late though, it's not really appropriate for them. But Sunday after church world out fine. I like the pastishio and hubby likes the gyros.

First time going to this place and the service was exceptional! Everyone is very friendly which makes you feel welcomed to be in this place. I tried the Greek salad and it was awesome. I also tried their gyros and that was very good as well! They make their gyro meat from scratch :) can't wait to go back and try some more food :)

The gyro plate is just fantastic. The flavor of the gyro is strong. Sandy is actually Greek, so it is authentic food he serves here. The grape leaves are fantastic. I just have to get them every time, even if I take them to go. They no longer have karaoke on Friday nights, but I've caught a few good local bands there.

I've eaten here several times; as others have mentioned you get you pick of Greek, burger/sandwiches, or "American dinner" type plates. I've enjoyed everything I've had here; last night it was the Greek sampler, which came with a small salad, pastitsio, spanikopita, and a few olives. Oh, and bread. My dinner guest had the pork chop special (2, grilled) with soup, salad, corn, and mashed potatoes. I think she got the better value, but portions were fine on each, and the food was well prepared and presented. Sandy's isn't a fancy place -- a row of booths on one side, u-shaped bar in the middle, and tables on teh other side. Several televisions, usually tuned to some sports event. The waitress was friendly, and kept my drink filled. I don't stop by every time I'm in town, but I don't have any problem recommending Sandy's, either. 3.5 stars.

Greek Food in Gainesville! Sandy's has probably got to be the best. I'm no Greek food expert, but damnit I know when something tastes good. The food there is spectacular. The service can be lacking sometimes, but they're generally friendly (and over-the-top at times). The place is also rather small, but not bad-looking. But who really cares about the look....I came to eat! I ordered the Souvlaki platter (Charred marinated pork with Tzatziki sauce, pita bread, salad, and fries). Also got an order of chicken wings. If you have read my reviews or know me, you know I had to. (I should seek rehab for my addiction) Anyways, my friends got Chicken Souvlaki, 1/2 Greek Salad, and a Gyro Platter. The Souvlaki Platter was so amazing. Every bite I took made me excited for the next. The meat was tender and I love char-broiled anything. (Almost anything...) And that Tzatziki sauce was great. The salad wasnt bad either. The fries were amazing. I don't know what they did. They must have tossed it in salt and crack. They were addicting. The wings were excellent. They were crisp and damn....they were good. The Chicken Souvlaki looked just as good as the regular. The 1/2 greek salad looked like it could feed 2 people. I can only imagine what the Whole Greek Salad would look like. She said it was her favorite item on the menu (Not sure if she was being honest...or being a girl). The Gyro looked so good. If I didnt order the Souvlaki, I would have definitely gone with the Gyro. Overall, the prices weren't bad. The platters are around $10, but comes with so much. Everything on the menu is priced great. You can definitely order great food and fill yourself for under $10. They got so much stuff here from meatball subs to burgers to gyros and everything else in between. These Greeks sure do know how to eat!

Greek Cuisine

Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.

Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.

For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
