Best pastrami sub you could ever ask for, plus the people are very friendly. Didn't see any cops at this one. Maybe they were busy?

Big portions delicious meat. Better than subway Hole in the wall .50 beers on Wednesdays. This place is awesone all in all.

This is an update, I had previously given them 4 stars, they lost a star for me and will keep losing if they keep the shenanigans up. I still love this place, but the customer service is lacking. The food is inconsistent. We have realized that if you personally go in there and order at the counter your sandwiches will more than likely be made exactly as you want them to be. If you order on the phone? You are taking a huge giant chance your order will be messed up. Last night, I ordered over the phone for my husband to pick it up. I am not sure who takes the orders on the phone, but it always sounds like its back in the bar area, because its loud. She answered the phone a nonchalant "hello" and then realized she was at work? apologized and took my order. I had to repeat it several times because she couldnt hear me, It seemed like she was writing it down and she repeated back to me what I wanted. 12 inch #3 (ham and salami) cold on white all the way extra meat and cheese and a 12 inch #14 (roast beef) cold on white all the way extra meat and cheese (swiss) extra sweet peppers. Easy enough, but she seemed to get lost in it, and I had to repeat it at least twice. I even said "They are both the same prep, except the #14 has extra sweet peppers" Husband brings home and My #14 has bread, extra meat, a slice of cheese, some sweet peppers (barely) and nothing else, not even mayo or mustard. Dry as the sahara bread.. what the fuck? again, they screw up a phone order again? this is the 5th or 6th time, and for some reason its always mine, and I dont know if its because I always order mine second and by the time she gets to writing mine she is tired? Im not sure. Called them, of course, and she answers the phone like she doesnt want to be living at all, much less have a job. I tell her the order is wrong, and why, and she tells me "oh you got someone elses order bring it back and we will make you another one" BS, cause the guy making the sandwich admitted all she wrote was #14 swiss, extra meat and sweet peppers....thats why it only had those things on there. It was remade correctly (but same dry bread phenomena), and picked up (no refund!). I am frustrated beyond belief cause I LOVE Hogans, when they are on, when they are off? I want to bomb that shelter. So lesson is? person to person a-ok. on the phone? not so much

#1 hot pressed please. The sandwiches here are packed with multiple layers of cold meats making it quite filling. The quality of the bread is top notch as well. Service is fast. Want a great sub every time? Come here. It's hassle free and tastes good.

Amazing amazing amazing subs. So much meat on the sub its so filling. I definitely recomend to everyone. The prices are exceptional for amount of food you get. My mom got a tuna six inch and I got a riast beef and turkey both had cheese on them for both of are sandwitchws and a drink we paid under 11 bucks and the service and patrons are so friendly loved it will definitely be back.

Went to eat at Hogan's for the first time this weekend. Note *Cash Only* I had a #1 - Hot Pressed the first time. Let me tell you, it is by far the best sub shop in Gainesville. Way more meat than your typical firehouse or quizznos. It takes them around 3-5 minutes to make a sandwich and their bar selection is great. The atmosphere and staff is also very friendly. I definitely recommend there specialty meatball sub.

Hands down THE best sandwich shop in Gainesville - heck, in all of Florida. Example, we ate lunch there today - an 8" turkey and ham sandwich w/lettuce & tomato & mayo & mustard, plus a bag of chips and a drink for $6.15. But it's not the price that's amazing. Ok, ok - the price IS amazing. It's the sandwich itself. I N C R E D I B L E. Maybe the best sandwich I've ever eaten and I'M NOT KIDDING. The use Boar's Head meats and light breads/rolls and they are wonderfully good. No, I don't work there or own the place or even know anybody associated with it -- it's just a great place to eat. There's a bar in back where you can get a beer and watch the game. What more could you ask. Do yourself a favor and visit this little treasure - you'll be glad you did.

Every time I go through Gainesville, we stop at Hogan's. Great deli sandwiches, very fresh and reasonable prices. The 34th St location is right off of 75 so be sure to stop by if you are traveling through and hungry. You will be happy that you did. Cash only!

I'm so sorry Mr. Ly I don't want to make you cry But, the bread here is so dry... The Italian sub is packed with cheap ham It tastes worse than cold Spam It just seems like Hogan's does not give a damn... Cash only--- really? C'mon!

The sandwiches here are well worth your money. Be prepared because this like any sandwich place like subway which offers 90% bread and toppings and 10% meat. These sandwiches are packed with meat and the are very tasty. Another cool thing about this place is that they offer beer from around the world. If you fill up their beer card (approx. 20 beers) you get a free shirt.

OMG!!! This is the best sandwich shop ever! They have high quality meats that are freshly sliced every morning. I recommend the #1. You can get any kind of meat you want on it. Choose between a 8, 10 and 12 inch. Then choose whether you want it cold, hot, or pressed! They top it off with provolone cheese, sweet peppers, hot peppers, banana peppers, mayo, mustard, and oil and vinegar and it completes the perfect sandwich! Man has always been on a quest for two things: 1. Perfect Lady 2. Perfect Sandwich I think I may have narrowed my search down to one. I am a fan and will visit this place every time I come to Gainesville now!

This is not the easiest place to find. The sandwiches are very big compared to back home. As for the sandwich it was good but nothing special. I found the pickles to be very sour. One thing I found very odd was my daughter got the grill cheese sandwich and they to not have any ketchup in the place....Really!!! An okay place.

My oldest son is attending college in Gainesville and I was in town on business so he took me here for a late dinner after some serious partying. He and his roommates absolutely love this place and frequent the bar in the back. I've had better but it was good. They have a huge selection of sandwiches but my son ordered for me. I think it was the #12 pastrami / corned beef sub. It was a bit over the top. Very huge and I couldn't finish it. My main complaint is the place doesn't take credit cards. I usually avoid places that take analog money but I went along with my son anyway. He raved about it and tried to get me to go last time I was in town, so I relented. I have no regrets and would likely try it again if I stop by a museum first to pick up filthy cash. My mother came in town to visit as well and she ended up going to the sushi place next door and raved about it.

My husband goes to Gainesville quite often for work, and would always come home bragging about how awesome Hogans is. So, in my first time in Gainesville, naturally, I sought out to eat at this place. I have to say, the sandwiches are absolutely fantastic!! Forget Subway and Firehouse Subs, Hogans is the place to go for a deli style sandwich! The employees are exceptionally friendly and service is given with a smile. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because it is a cash only place and there is very limited seating. Otherwise, I highly recommend this place!!

    (4)
  • Carl P.

The absolute best sandwiches I've ever had. Get it pressed. And the 12" is huge. Be sure to bring cash, no CC, and service can be a little slow at times, but its WELL worth it.

  • Brook W.

Hogans has the best subs with a lot of meat and a good amount of veggies. They have a bar inside so you can relax eat your sub and drink a beer. I recommend hogans to all of my friends.

  • John C.

I was in a search for a sub. I didn't want the same old Subway food, and really have no desire to be hanging around college students on University, so I tried Hogan's. Everything met my hope for a good lunch - subs were fresh, big and tasted good. Counter service was fast, and the menu was about the same price as a Quizno. As Arnold says, "I'll be back"

    (4)
  • Rob C.

The quality of the food here is about as bad as it can get. 4 out of 4 sandwiches our group ordered went into the trash. Even my teenage boy who will eat anything refused to eat his grilled chicken. The gyro I ordered was microwaved soggy meat with no crisp to it at all and the tzatziki sauce either soured or was actually a nasty tasting ranch dressing. Seriously, pass this place by. You are better off walking next door and get a sub from Publix. And what is up with the "Cash Only" policy? Credit card processing fees are a few percent of the transaction. Don't give me that "it's to keep costs down" line unless what you really mean is "it is to keep costs down by not having a record of sales for the tax man."

Sure, I'll conform. I absolutely love Hogan's sandwiches. One of my favorite times to visit is when I've had a subpar sandwich somewhere else and I need a rebound. It saves sandwiches everywhere from dropping a notch on my internal ladder. As many times as I've been here, I don't think I have ever strayed from the #1 or the #8. Generally I love trying new sandwiches wherever I go but I can't get tired enough of these 2 to try another. I've been here a few times where they epically fail on service and mixing up orders, but it's always when I'm hanging out and having a few beers so it's just an excuse to hang out longer. Obviously, cash only is another inconvenience, but I usually don't think about the fact that I don't have cash until I'm already in the parking lot, so a quick walk over to Publix fixes the problem. My only other gripe, and probably the biggest one, is the 1oz bags of Lay's chips. WTF guys, you obviously aren't even trying in that department. Good thing I never need them to go with the gorilla sandwiches.

Easily the best old-school sandwich in town. That is if you like sandwiches made on hearty pieces of bread with substantial amounts of meat. Nothing fancy but it's big, cheap, and tasty. The place only takes cash but that's not much of an issue since you can get a 6-inch sandwich and a drink for under $7. I've had 6 or so different sandwiches from this place (one was actually given to me by accident) and I've never had one I didn't like, but my favorite is the 6-inch #7 and when you find a sandwich you like here it's hard to try another one. The bar is beer only and I'm not a beer drinker but, the there's always plenty of people there and they do seem to have a very diverse selection. It's a pretty cozy atmosphere so it's not a place where you want to show up with more than 4 people. But the people there are very laid back and accommodating (both the patrons and the employees) so you don't really feel crowded. The one thing to be aware of is that when they're busy the hot pressed sandwiches come out slower since they can only press 4 sandwiches at a time.

If you don't believe in God. Go to Hogan's and order a #6 Combination Hero.

Easily the best place to get a sandwich in Gainesville. Being a local, I've been going to Hogans for quite a while, the last few years exclusively to the 34th St shop since it was nearby. Regardless of which location you go to, the food is top notch and always consistent. The portions are huge for the price and you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. My personal favorites are the #1 (their Italian), the meatball (damn good), and a hot rachel (cole slaw instead of 'kraut...a southern thing). The patrons are usually your middle class working guy and you're not often surrounded by obnoxious college students, just obnoxious middle aged (or older) men, which I'd prefer. At least they can be funny. If you catch Walt, the owner, standing up at the end of the bar, he's hilarious. The bartenders are usually not bad and fairly attentive and at least the crappy ones are easy on the eyes (and don't typically last too long). Oh, and the price for a schooner during happy hour can't be beat. I'll continue to be a regular at these shops for a long time to come.

To locals Hogan's needs no intro. I wholeheartedly believe they serve the best Italian sandwich on this planet. If not the planet, it's definitely the best in Gainesville and hands down the best I've ever had. That's my disclaimer so the cast of Jersey Shore doesn't come down and crack my skull for freaking blasphemy. I'm sure some obnoxious 8 pound sandwich is served in a delicatessen elsewhere, which might be featured on Food Network or the Travel Channel as the bigdgest most Italian sandwich in the country. But here in Gainesville Hogans in the best. The deal is it's local, with loaded sandwiches, and serves one of the best beer selections is this town. *see Stubbies for the absolute best beer selection in town, region, and possibly the state. That's another review though. For the initial visit order a 6 inch #1 with everything on it and "hot" pressed. When I first started eating at Hogan's I decided to go down the whole menu starting at #1. I still can't get past #1 after countless visits. Frankly, I'm feeling guilty for giving Jimmy John's 4 stars because even though they're fast, the sandwiches don't come close to Hogan's. You may have to wait a bit longer but it's definitely worth it. I wouldn't consider anything less than 5 stars for something this good.

Beautifully pressed Cuban sandwich. Surpassing every Latin joint I've tried around town. Nice crusty bread, VERY succulent Pork, yummy ham, creamy swiss, a mild spicy mustard and crunchy pickles. They don't call me the Dutchess for nathin! Love this place. Best Cuban I've ever had.

Hogan's makes great sandwiches. There is no doubt about it that if you want a filling sub, you hit this place up. But a star had to be taken off for not one, but two different reasons: 1. They don't accept credit cards, only cash or check. Check? Really? Get with the electronic age or get out because checks are the way of the dinosaur unless you're paying your mortgage or giving your kid money for a field trip. 2. The wait is unacceptable during lunch hours. People work and have very limited time during their lunch hour most of the time. So taking 30 minutes to prepare two subs is a bit ridiculous, wouldn't you say? But if you have time to kill and a hunger to feed, Hogan's is the place to go. Just make sure you bring enough cash.

Best Subs in town by far. #1 Hot pressed please! Also great selection of beer and has 2 restaraunts. I like the original 13th better, but probably because it was my first love. WARNING: ONLY ACCEPTS CASH...but worth the head ache

I like this place, they have really fresh cold cuts and good quality toppings. Their bread is above average. They also have really nice people working there who are willing to change up a sandwich to fit your wants and needs.

Yummy! Subs or Heros as they call them come in 6, 8 or 12 inches, and come packed with your choice of veggies. A 12 inch is perfect to share with a friend, as it appears to actually be closer to 15 inches. Sandwiches are served either cold or pressed. The best item on the menu is the pasta salad! It is delicately flavored and is speckled with green peas. Sandwiched are hand made, so be prepared to wait 10 minutes. I haven't checked out the bar in the back, but it looks fun!

I've been a fan of Hogans since playing youth soccer in Gainesville in the 1980's. Hogans was my favorite "treat" after every Saturday game. I even made a point to stop here when in town from college in the 90's. Over the past 30 years Ive rarely had a better and bigger sub sandwich and it's ALWAYS as amazing and consistent as I remember. If you want a fabulous, huge, and PERFECT sub sandwich..GO TO HOGANS! Why just four stars, then? Now I'm a mom of 3 children and they have NO HIGH CHAIRS. Try eating one of these gigantic subs with just ONE hand while holding an active infant on your lap. Not a pretty or tidy experience. I would have loved to sit and enjoy this beautiful creation of a meal, but now I have to wolf it down like Im eating lunch at a traffic light while neglecting the bits of sandwich droppings pasted around my mouth and face. Also- cash only? I only had a $20 bill but would have ordered more and even one to go back home with me had they taken a swipe. Next time Im in town, I'll guess Ill have to BYOH (bring my own highchair) and more Andrew Jacksons.

It's a cute little sandwich shop with a bar in the back. The sandwiches here are monstrous. Just the six inch usually lasts me two meals. Definitely prefer these subs over Publix's which is located right next door. Make sure to have cash with you though as they don't take credit cards. Luckily Publix is right there if you need an ATM or cash back.

Their sandwiches are ok. I wouldn't put them at the top of the pack for Gainesville. I eat here often due to work being near by.

This is a cute little sandwich shop located just a couple minutes off I-75. The sandwich shop is pretty standard, and there appeared to be a bar in the back (but I did not venture back there). You order at the counter and then once your sandwich is made they either bring it to you or call you up to the counter. You can request to either have it cold or hot (which I believe is just toasted). I ordered the number 1 which came with ham, proscuittini, salami, cappicolo, and provolone. I also asked for all the usual fixings that come with it (lettuce, tomato, pickles, etc.). They recommended it served hot which was quite tasty! I wasn't very hungry so I ordered the smallest size (6 inch) but even that was enough for two meals for me!! They weren't extremely fast when I went but I would definitely recommend stopping in here if you are looking for a sandwich that isn't subway or something else common. If you are in a hurry you may consider calling ahead and ordering on the phone so your sandwich is ready when you get there.

I tried Hogan's today for the first time. I was in search of a tasty sandwich, and they had what I was looking for. I happened to be in the mood for something vegetarian, something cheesy... and Hogan's pulled it off. They had not one, but two cheese sandwich options on the menu. I chose the Number 10, which gives you the choice of three different cheeses. Then you get your toppings- they have several veggies to choose from, along with mayo, mustard, and/or oil & vinegar. The service was great, and the staff was very friendly. I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door. When I was ready to order, I was taken care of immediately. The employee wrote my order down, asking me questions about my preferences to make sure he got my order exactly the way I wanted it. Except- even though he was writing everything down, and I stated I did not want onions, my sandwich definitely contained onions. He might not have been the one actually making the sandwich, so there may be some communication errors between the staff. The onions were a bummer, but other than that I was satisfied with my experience, as well as with the sandwich. There was a generous portion of cheese, and a nice blend of other flavors from the veggies and spreads. I was treated like a valued customer, which makes me more likely to return. I will go back to Hogan's, and hopefully next time my sandwich is executed just a little more accurately.

First time eating in Gainesville and my friend kept telling me to eat at Hogan's..I got the hot pressed #1, it was pretty good..nothing as THE BEST EVER since I'm from Miami, FL but good for size..price..and quality of meat..service is friendly too..

These sandwiches are pretty good and they have been since the late 90's when I used to go to the one off of 13th and NW 23rd. I like to stop at this location when I am driving through Gainesville. It is a bit of nostalgia for me, but I also enjoy the food. Cash Only

What a great Mutha Effin sandwich shop! I stopped in here after reading some reviews, and had an excellent experience! I visit Gainesville once a month for business and was looking for a quick, delicious dinner after a long day. After shuffling through a few places I came across this one, and decided to give it a go based on location, and reviews. Walking in reveals a simple, but encouraging menu that looks like a lot of love has gone in to it. I like all of the options available, and the product definitely looked fresh. I decided on a 6 inch Turkey, because I wasn't ridiculously hungry, and I had heard that the portions were big. 5 bucks and change was a welcome price for something that looked so good! Upon glancing behind me, I noticed a bar with lots of great beers available. Unbelievable; two of my favorite quick fixes in one place! I asked the counter lady if I could just go back and sit and wait for my sandwich, and she said she'd bring it back to me.. Great! After looking at the selection, I went with my home-state favorite Two Hearted Ale from Bells. Soon after ordering, my sandwich arrived. What a perfect pairing: a perfectly toasted turkey sandwich on amazing bread, with amazing cheese and produce with a wonderfully fresh IPA from my home state. To say that I was whisked back to Detroit emotionally would be an understatement. They even had the hockey game on! This place fit exactly what I was looking for that evening, and probably could fill the slot most evenings of my life. I was full of sandwich and beer by the end, and I couldn't have been happier. I DEFINITELY will be back. Cheers!

5 stars for food. Honestly, the subs are amazingly crafted (they don't fall apart) and their meats are so juicy. Such freshness was amazing. I will say I can down a 12-inch sub from Subway in one sitting and still eat the chips or the cookies and I'm still a bit hungry. Today I had a 12-inch sub at Hogan's and I couldn't finish it. It was packed. Very good taste. I take away one star from the overall rating because of the space. There's not a lot of sitting arrangements and that limits the amount of people that can dine in.

Wow! This place lives up to all the hype. This is truely a one of a king place in Gainesville. The sandwiches are huge and it has a New York type feel. If you haven't been I highly recommend checking it out. The sandwiches are arguably the best in the city. It's a little unclear what you are ordering upfront but don't worry they will come out with a lot of meat and you really can go wrong with anything on the menu. I didn't make it to the bar portion on this trip but the prices looks fair and like a fun atmosphere with a dive bar feel.

There are two types of sandwich places in my mind: there are the bistro-style, organic multigrain offerings paired with bisques and salads containing house vinaigrettes...and then there are the deli-style places where you come for a behemoth of cold cuts with your standard condiments and chips. Hogan's represents an exemplary version of the latter. A dense layer of meat and cheese piled with fresh veggies make any decision the right one, with prices well within reason for the quantity The Space: Hogan's is located within the Williston Plaza at the intersection of Williston and 34th. Immediately walking in the display case for their produce and meats will be visible on the left, along with their substantially large menu of offerings. To the right are enough seats to accommodate someone looking to dine in with a small group. I have been more than once, despite my Yelp check-ins, and have never found it the least bit messy. The Service: I have never walked in and faced a line at Hogan's, I cannot account for what might happen when they hit a rush. The sandwiches I have gotten have always been made to go and it takes less than 5 minutes from payment to packaged and walking out the door. The people I have had serve me are always friendly and welcoming. The Food: So when it comes to a hoagie it is easy to suggest it is only a matter of ingredients. Though they obviously represent the majority of the experience, the preparation at Hogan's really goes the extra mile. First off, the meats are always nice and cold. Quality is apparent and they have no issue giving you your money's worth in portions. The 12" sub will last you at least two days if you are an average consumer. They offer numerous standard toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, banana pepper, etc.) which are crisp and look healthy as can be. With the hoagies you can get pressed or cold, whichever you prefer, and they serve the sandwiches on either white or whole wheat. So back to what I was saying before: ingredients NEED to be a given, so WHY Hogan's? The answer is in the smaller details: they put the ham slices on TOP of the veggies to contain them for eating and they use a piece of paper to lock in the moisture so your to-go bag does not soak from the water (which also stops the sandwich from tasting like paper bag), they cut it into 4 pieces because they know the 12" is huge and the bread is dense enough to not shred from the cuts, condiments, and toppings when biting into it. You get a mouthful of every item, every time, and it continues to resemble a sandwich until you are finished. PRO TIP: CASH ONLY. The one time I forgot, they made my sandwich anyway and by the time I walked to Publix and back it was ready for me. Final Thoughts: This establishment is not 5 stars for only a small number of reasons: 1) Cash only is simply not viable anymore, though they happen to have an easy solution with a Publix nearby and 2) The bread, though great for the way they make their sandwiches (overloaded), could be a little tastier and, in an ideal world, fresh-baked. Other places that use local bread or that bake their own daily beat the flavor of the rolls that Hogan's uses for me. These two things are all that stand in the way of a perfect rating in my eyes, and the cash only aspect being resolved would be enough to change this review to a 5, truth be told.

The absolute best sandwiches I've ever had. Get it pressed. And the 12" is huge. Be sure to bring cash, no CC, and service can be a little slow at times, but its WELL worth it.

Hogans has the best subs with a lot of meat and a good amount of veggies. They have a bar inside so you can relax eat your sub and drink a beer. I recommend hogans to all of my friends.

Best pastrami sub you could ever ask for, plus the people are very friendly. Didn't see any cops at this one. Maybe they were busy?

Cash Only

Cheers!
