Fresh tortilla that really makes a difference is made on the hour in this place. The decor is very whimsy and bright. I enjoy the atmosphere. The level of service that is given is truly immense. The guacamole is fresh made and chunky, just the way that it should be instead of the mush you get at other Mexican restaurants. This is definitely one of the top places to eat in Gainesville for Mexican food.

If tex-mex is what your looking for..then look no further. The fish tacos are amazing. The creamy jalepeno dip is addicting. The chips are super fresh and the salsa is okay. The atmosphere is really casual and has a kind of diner feel to it. Its great for big parties. I have eaten here 5-6times and each time the service has been excellent!! Very consistent.

Definitely good food. Their sauces are great. I ate the steak burrito and felt that it could have fed three. Very reasonable price. Stop by for a relatively quick delicious tex mex meal.

Chuy's is a destination place for many people that are just looking to have some good ol' family fun. The décor is over the top, and the service is great. Sometimes I wonder if they are owned by Disney, because the entire experience reminds me of dining in Epcot. That simply hint to; if you are looking for authenticity, look elsewhere. This is a Tex-Mex joint, and rightfully so, there is nothing wrong or misleading about that. For example, my favorite dish is the fish tacos. A dozen dollar dish comprised of two white fish filets covered in a thick layer of crunchy crust with cornflakes in there somewhere. That is then slathered in a ranch dressing sauce with the option to roll it all up in some flour torillas. It is a texture-versus-tang-fest all up in your mouth. After reading all of the articles about Chuy's before dining here for the first time, I was expecting some of the freshest Tex-Mex I have ever eaten. As a chain hailing from Texas that prides themselves on their freshly made sauces and salsas, I could really not taste a difference in freshness from the local Mexican restaurant down the road that is half the price. Garlic, cilantro, and the brightness of fresh tomatoes are some of the many missing pieces of the puzzle. The portions are slightly larger, and the attentiveness of the servers is better. So, ask yourself, are you coming to Chuy's for the food or the show?

I've been here twice for dinner, and after the second time I swore I'd never eat here again. The food just isn't that impressive, and honestly I'd rather go somewhere else for a more reasonable price and get better quality food. It's a little over priced for some basic Mexican dishes. Refried beans, rice, and chicken. The service has also been quite iffy - neither waitress I've had has seemed to interested in taking good care of us. Regardless, both times I tipped 20%. Just go to Las Margaritas or La Fiesta.

I love happy hour here! They have a nacho bar where you can refill your chips basket with ground beef and queso as many times as you want. I always ask for the creamy jalapeño sauce as well, it tastes amazing. But if you don't like ranch, you might not like it bc it tastes sort of similar to it. Their strawberry mango swirl frozen margarita is the best! If you're going with friends, I recommend getting a pitcher of that and just sharing! It's a better deal.

Description: Chuy's, located in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Butler Plaza, is a fun and family friendly Mexican restaurant. Although a chain restaurant, I never experienced Chuy's until I came to Gainesville. With a bright exterior and ample parking, Chuy's is a solid recommendation for large gatherings and copious amounts of decently priced Mexican food. Food & Service: I've been to Chuy's a few times since I've been in Gainesville and my experience has always been solid. Although their chips aren't made from the highest quality, it is endless and free, and the salsa or creamy jalapeno (as requested) sauce on the side are pretty tasty. I've ordered several things before but my favorite has been the macho burrito thus far, it's cheaper on Sundays FYI. Packed mainly with cheese, guacamole, and roast pork, the burrito is pretty big for the price. Green chile rice also comes with it. Service has always been positive too. I can't recall having a rude or inattentive waiter. Just recently, we had a waitress that was super kind and carried a conversation with us in a casual and enjoyable manner. Final Thoughts: As enjoyable as I make Chuy's sound, it only gets 3 stars (3.5 stars) from me, reason being quality of food overall. Yes, their food is much better than the Taco Bell next door, but I've had better and for around the same price at La Tienda and Blue Agave (their main issues being a little further away). Take note that I'm not saying you shouldn't go to Chuy's but if you're looking specifically for fresher, higher quality Mexican cuisine, try elsewhere. I will say though that Chuy's service and their festive themed atmosphere makes it an excellent option for large gatherings like I mentioned before. If you're not crazy about getting the highest quality food, Chuy's is simply a solid choice for what it is. I would come here again.

I'm a big fan of Chuy's, who proves it's ok to be a chain if it's done conscientiously. Chuy's does it all, and does it well. I enjoyed the complimentary happy hour nacho bar at this location, which of course is infinitely good because, divided by zero price, you end up with an infinitely high quality/price ratio. Likewise, Yuenglings were nice and cheap. Margaritas, not so much. I also had a burrito at this location, one of the "Big as Yo Face" options. It was good, but worlds beyond was the Comida Supreme plate I had the other day, albeit another location. If they have Comida Supreme, get it.

Consistently good for Tex-Mex. Not authentic enough for a true connosieur of Mexican food, but darn good for American- Mexican. The highlights are 3-fold: the decor in the back area (odd wall & ceiling art...hubcaps, license plates, etc), the homemade tortilla shells (which u can watch being made by hand), & what I lovingly refer to as "Liquid Crack"...the jalapeño ranch dip that is brought to each table with chips. (I would kill 4 this stuff!) The parking is easy, the service has always been very good, as well as the food. The menu is a little choppy, and the acoustics are not great (not a quiet place), but all-in-all you and your guests will get a decent meal here.

One word ... AWESOME!!! This will definitely be my 'go-to' spot when I'm in Gainesville. The chips, salsa, and jalapeño sauce alone are too die for. Put the jalapeño sauce on everything! If you can stand a little kick get the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom. Chicken Flautas and Steak Burrito were delicious too. Our server Ross was great and the atmosphere was fun. Can't wait to get back.

I would rate this place higher if the service were quicker. I was seated, then sat for twenty minutes without being acknowledged much less anyone taking my order. Lest you think they were busy it was four in the afternoon on a Tuesday. I am an aficionado of Hatch Green chilies, I have eaten here three times in the past eight days, the food is good and the green chili almost makes the wait worthwhile but I'm sorry enough is enough. The wait to be served followed by the interminable wait for the food is simply too much. Reluctantly I am going to cross the place off of my list nor can I recommend it. Everyone has a limited amount of time in which to eat, a restaraunt that doesn't acknowledge it is simply uncaring toward patrons. Better to spend my money where it is appreciated.

If you like Mexican food definitely try this place in Gainesville. Delicious food! The tortillas are really soft and good. Also their chicken tortilla soup was amazing!

See the photo- they show you one margarita for $9 and give you a small, plastic cup instead. They swear it's the same amount. Chips are hot and fresh.

Love Chuy's! Wish there was one down here in Jupiter, Florida. Service was great and food was awesome!

I would say if you want to eat average quality Mexican you can go to this place. Nothing good or extraordinary !!!

  • TJ G.

We drove up from Ocala for this place. The chips, dip and service was phenomenal. And that's where it ended. The enchilada sauce tasted like it had been simmering since Monday. The food was ridiculously too hot. I love spices hot food but this was so hot it made me nauseous. Not recommended unless you have no tastebuds and hate your life.

Excellent overall experience! Greeter met us at the entrance and held the door. The waiter asked if it was our first time and explained the menu very well. By far the best Mexican food I've had in Florida.

Delicious flavorful fajitas! Great service & I'm stuffed! Cool eclectic spot with a great vibe. Miggy was our waiter & he rocked

  • Swapnil K.

So ive had the best quesadillas and flautas all around and trust me when I say I was literally disappointed, and to the core! The dish lacked signature touches and looked like an average home made dish, let taste alone. The cheese used was substandard and had rubberized to say the least! Never again! Instead I'd ssuggest people to try Boca fiesta!

  • Cindy K.

Taco salad, beef and chicken fajitas, refried beans, guacamole dip, queso dip, we cannot say anything but great food. Everyone was nice and helpful for new people like us. So much food and no way to eat it all. If you come to eat ask for Miggy, he did a great job!

Love this place. Would eat there every week if I get the chance. Their chips and salsa are the best.. The salsa is so fresh and yummy. Love the veggie enchilada and cheese relleno. One of the best tex-mex places around.. If you like spicy order their boom-boom sauce.

  • Astrid B.

Delicious food, glorious food, and genius sauces. I love the creamy jalapeño sauce on practically everything. The chips here are thin and crispy, and perfectly salted with pico de gallo (and free). The taco salad is amazing with mixed greens and tastes even better with sirloin as opposed to the fajita chicken. Considering, I do not eat much red meat.

  • Kim S.

We tried Chuys after it was recommended by several of our friends. The food is fresh and you can tell the tortilla is homemade. The sauces are very good and different from other chains. I had the deluxe chicken with rice and refried beans. My husband ordered the fried chimichanga. Both were good. I also had a sangria but it was so so. We would come back again to try other things.

  • To B.

Always good! Ask for Guey Chuey and Shirley Guey. You won't find it on the menu! I love Shirley Guey for starters with the chips!

Delicious Tex Mexican food. I look forward most to their a Monday night special of stuffed avocado. The people there were friendly, easy going, and helpful. The best part of that chips and salsa is given complimentary with any of their other dips. I highly suggest the creamy jalapeno, which isn't spicy at all but just delicious (imagine ranch with a kick). Their drinks are also superb.

Ok - 3rd review. Awesome! This time I had the blue corn stacked enchilada with refried beans and spicy rice. The flavor was amazing. The chips are thin, crispy and great!! Tortilla soup was wonderful. Fresh roasted corn, roasted tomatoes, light broth, huge pieces of chicken, avocado- served with a lime. Dipping sauces for chips- the creamy Jalipeno was smooth and tasty. They have several sauces to choose from. Now, I am here again! I went out of my way to come back. This visit I am still loving their thin, crispy chips! My steak burrito has a wonderful marinated flavor with a spicy green chili sauce. It was accompanied by a Mexican rice that was well flavored. The chili sauce will slip up on you so if you don't like spicy, order a different sauce. There are a lot to choose from. I didn't care for the charro beans but that's ok- the rest of the food will bring me back - again.

Decent tex mex right in the heart of Gainesville. I would say it is pretty comparable to other tex mex spots. The portions are huge and the chips are never ending, which can be a good or bad thing depending how one looks at it. I had an Elvis inspired platter that was a lot of food for a very affordable price. The food was tasty and made me want more. Definitely looking to come back when I'm in town.

Well praise Jesus! Another Chuys in Florida! This Texas girl was super happy to come across this location after a long, stressful day at the hospital. New Mexican Martini? Yes, please, with extra jalapeño olives and some creamy jalapeño dip. Our waiter seemed less than excited to be there and left is empty a few times, which wasn't ideal, but the food and drinks were fabuloso. A fine Tex-Mex establishment.

  • Tiffany P.

What can I say? It delivers exactly the way I expect it to. I had the Chuy-Changa and it was ENORMOUS and yet I polished it off and immediately hated myself afterwards. It did seem to be more flour burrito than filling, which is probably why in the long run I was capable of finishing it. But, I would totally come back and try something else. Service was friendly and quick.

  • Chung Kit T.

The only thing I have tried on the menu is the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom entree. I've been there several times already and every time I go there, I eat the same thing. It's that good of a dish. Service is always quick. Never had trouble getting my drinks refilled or getting more chips & salsa. The decor varies which the different sections of the restaurant which is pretty cool. It never gets tiring. If you want to get your Tex-Mex fix, go to Chuy's.

This was my second visit to this chain. I remembered this being pretty typical overly salty Mexican fare so I went with the taco salad this time. It was crisp and tasty with plenty of fresh lettuce and some great bean/mean/salsa toppings. I enjoyed it. I also really enjoyed their "martini margaritas" which are basically margaritas without all the filler crap - exactly the way I like them and would make them at home. Muy Bueno. This is definitely a good stop when you're traveling up and down I75.

FRESH! This is the BEST tex-mex I've ever had! To start, the place is immaculate. The silverware comes individually wrapped in sanitary paper bag. The salsa is fresh with the perfect amount of spice. The chips were fresh and warm. They are thin, which was different and we really loved it. The quest was also great. Will return!

Definitely my favorite Mexican place in town. I try to stop by at least once a week. The creamy jalapeno and boom-boom sauce are a must try.

I went to Chuy's not realizing it was tex mex rather than just Mexican food. I love Mexican... Especially fajitas so that's what I tried. I will start with the chips and salsa. The chips were very light and the salsa was very flavorful but was spicy. Then our waitress brought us a complimentary jalapeño sauce made with buttermilk. It tasted kind of like a slightly spicy ranch and I loved it. The problem came in with my chicken fajitas. Yes the home made tortillas were exquisite. But I have never had fajitas that were so spicy! I was not able to really taste much after a few bites of the stuff. So the wait staff was great, I just was not prepared to have such spicy food. And the food I felt was a bit too pricy. Honestly I don't know that I will go back here but if you like spicy food then this is your place!

ALRIGHT PEOPLE !! CHUY'S Well, I first discovered Chuy's about 2 years ago while craving some authentic South Western style Mexican comfort food. On a whim I ordered a #1 meal called Comida Delux . I received more food than I could possibly eat in one sitting. After an average 30 min wait my platter was bestowed upon me ; two tex-mex cheese enchiladas garnished with nice fresh Pico and a few sliced Jalepenos for spice with sides of refried beans and rice. I also got a beef taco two chicken flautas and an assortment of sauces including Queso, fresh guac and pico. - Taste impressions . The enchiladas were cooked perfectly and served hot . the cheese was not skimpy and not processed cheese like some other low budget Tex-mex . the rice and beans were fresh and wonderfully seasoned. The taco was from scratch they cook the shell themselves , and I love the seasoning they used in the beef. the flautas are crisp and the chicken is tender and moist and seasoned just right , they are wonderful dipped in guac and sour cream. I just love the chips they are light and crispy ,but not so light that they cant hold a generous amount of salsa of which they have about 3 or 4 different varieties , so finding one to your liking is not hard. Service was very friendly and helpful. Plus they have some cute college girls working there :-) Pricing- good low to mid range place my meal was 10.59 not including beverages and gratuity Overall a nice experience. Well done guys

Alas atmosphere can't make the dining experience. The quality of service seems to have dropped since they've opened. I now find myself getting the same below average waitresses during lunch. It's not busy when I go, so there's really no excuse. This time I ordered the fish tacos. Waitress asked how lunch was. Told her the truth that these were the worst fish tacos I've ever had. That prompted a visit from the manager. Still doesn't change that they were indeed the worst fish tacos I've ever had. Now that they've been in town for a while. My rating changes from a just average to meh I've experienced better. Which we all have in Gainesville. Go to Mexico Lindo at 75th and Archer or Las Margaritas on 39th. urbanspoon.com/f/150/157… To bad, I really wanted to like Chuys

Chuy's Tres Leche cake is the bomb. I have yet to order something that I don't care for. Great food, great service.

Good was so so service was above average. My biggest complaint was that they make dishes that are supposed to be spicy and told me it would be spicy and they were not spicy at all. I was looking for a good spicy dish and got something with minimal heat at best. Food was good just not what I was looking for

Visiting from TX, I was excited to introduce my FL friends to true tex-mex. Love that this location has stayed true to its roots with its use of green chilies. The hostess was super awkward and sat us at a tiny table when all of the booths were open. Table and chairs were dirty and she stood there watching my boyfriend clean them off... After asking to be moved to a booth, we had a great visit. The chuychanga never disappoints. However, very confused about why my regular rice was spicier than my boyfriends "spicy" rice. At the location I've been to in TX, no such distinction has ever been made. Will return here and to my home location in Dallas!

I've been eating at Chuy's at least once a week since they opened. As Mike mentioned in his review, they seem a little over staffed. I think this is a smart move to make when opening a restaurant, if it can be afforded. From day one they have been great about getting you in and out quickly. I haven't experienced the kind of lag I sometimes experience at new restaurants. My wife and I think the decor and atmosphere of Chuy's provides a positive and happy place to eat. I'm a fan of the paintings in the middle room which my wife translates to me over dinner. I'm turned off by restaurants that hang a garage sale on their walls as decoration, and Chuy's decor, while busy, avoids that appearance. The thing that sold me on Chuy's on my first visit, was knowing that they make fresh tortillas. Since I've been trying to make homemade ones this year, I've grown to appreciate a fresh tortilla. Because of my love of their tortillas, I haven't tried anything here than doesn't come served in/on one. I generally stick with their taco dinners. The ground beef is good, but not great. The chicken tastes fresh, but is too bland. The fajita steak tastes good, but tends to taste like it's been sitting around a bit too long. If you can spend a few more dollars, get the steak fajita dinner. Whatever they marinate their steak in, produces a tasty tender steak, better than I've received at any other Tex-Mex or Mexican restaurant in town. With most meals you can choose between two different kinds of rice, Mexican or green. I'm not a big fan of either, but if you like things a little spicy, go for the green rice. They also serve two different kinds of beans, charro or refried. I'm not a big fan of either of their bean selections, as they are a bit heavy tasting. I generally go with the charro beans. I think I got ahead of myself here. The chips and salsa are some of my favorite in town. I wasn't a big fan of their house salsa at first, but it has grown on me. It has a bright sweet citrus flavor that causes me to eat way too many chips. They also have a variety of other free dipping sauces you can request. My wife enjoys the creamy jalapeno. The prices for dinner are fine, and are in the range of $8-$15. For lunch however, they don't provide lunch size portions and prices. This leaves other Tex-Mex and Mexican establishments with an advantage serving cheaper meals. With the addition of a lunch menu, and the refinement of some of the dishes I think Chuy's has potential.

Went to this place originally when I was at Dell new hire training in TX. I enjoyed it but we also ate outside in the middle of TX summer -- so I think I was distracted by the situation to fully appreciate the food. Chuy's is really good. They are expanding and opened up a restaurant in Gainesville so I had to stop by and check it all out with one of my Dell collegues. We gorged on appeptizers of assorted dips, salsa and I then got a salad to make it all better. It was a great salad, btw! The creamy, oh so fattening I need to run 10 miles to eat this stuff dip and salad dressing that has Jalapenos and a milk based cream in it.... was really yummy.

After reading some reviews before heading out for some Mexican food and cold beer while In Gainesville for business, I decided to give Chuy's a try. I got a combo platter which had a little of everything but it was hard to say that anything stood out as memorable. It was a good-sized portion and the tortilla chips were tasty. The Modelo Especials beer was ice-cold which was good. The service was 'average to good' - nothing particularly bad just nothing really good - all about average.

  • Julie S.

I'm very surprised Chuy's is still open, but it's corporate-funded so I guess it makes sense. It's just not very good. No, let me rephrase that: It's just as good as any other generic Mexican restaurant chain-- nothing to write home about. It's not that it's BAD, it's just that it will be gone in the next few years because in order to stay successful in this transient college town, you need that wow factor of either novelty or skill, and Chuy's is just... Eh.

We found Chuy's by accident while looking for TwoJay's one day. Sadly, TwoJay's was gone, and happily, Chuy's had taken its place. Our first meal, and all subsequent meals have been absolutely delicious. We average one trip per quarter or more to Gainesville, and we always have a meal at this restaurant. The service has always been great, the food is fresh, and it has always been very good. Favorites include the Tacos al Pastor-little soft tacos filled with roast pork. The guacamole is very good as are the regular crispy tacos, burritos, the chips are always fresh and warm, and their selection of sauces is fabulous. All beef dishes use sirloin, including the ground meat Highly recommended.

Absolutely wonderful restaurant. There's not much to say except that the food is delicious, the prices are great, the atmosphere is fun and friendly, and the staff has always been wonderful as well. Highly recommend. Great for lunch or dinner.

We absolutely love this place. We eat here at least every other week if not once a week. The food is always fresh and the service is outstanding. Each dining area has its own theme. There is an area where a cook makes fresh tortillas where kids and adults can watch. My wife usually gets the taco salad or crispy tacos. My son usually gets a burger (which is really good) or the kids crispy tacos. I usually get the fajitas or chuychunga We've tried other items as well (which are good, but these tend to be our favorites). As far as appetizers, my wife and son love the creamy jalapeno but personally I love the queso. We've tried almost every Mexican restaurant here and none of them come close to Chuy's. If you are a huge fan of Mexican food then this is your place.

A average food. Moderate prices. Staff friendly but service can be spotty if busy. Parking is ok. They can get crowded and you may need to wait. Food is good but seems inconsistent giving it my opening statement of average. Will go back since my wife loves it. I could go either way.

  • Bret A.

The food comes in large portions and is decent. Prices are about what tex-mex chains average. The service is slow - the staff are helpful and good, but when it is busy they just can't keep up. Happy hour has nachos and drink specials so next time we'll try that out. We had a large group and they kept up with us all and were very generous with refills on chips, salsa and drinks. Everyone liked their dishes which ranged from fajitas, to sampler platters to burrito type items. Everyone was stuffed!!! Fun and busy!

First time at this new chain of mexican restaurants. I was greeted with an amazing basket of chips (thin, warm and crisp) and some amazing salsa. I requested a second bowl of "hot salsa" and did not taste much difference... but it was still good! I had a combo platter that included a chalupa (tostada?) and a chicken enchilada. The chicken chalupa and enchilada were fabulous with large sides of beans, rice and salad. A to-go box is necessary. I will definitely return to this restaurant.

Good food except there are no Carnitas and no beer in tap. Sat at the bar and had poor service. She was more interested in taking care of the drinks for the table servers than the patrons sitting in front of her. They did have complimentary chips and queso.

Having heard many good things on Yelp and elsewhere regarding Chuy's, I was keen on trying it myself. The first thing to note is how impressive and plain fun the atmosphere is: the renovations have produced a bright interior with overlapping themes of Elvis, Texas, the 1950s, and American culture in general. It's simply fun and you cannot be in a bad mood in a place like this--you just can't. The service is, if anything, seemingly over-staffed, but this means as a customer you get a lot of attention and things like refills for your drink are not neglected. So the business model from design to the training and performance of the staff is quite good. The only aspect I disliked about the atmosphere was the music: maybe this was a one-time thing, but they were playing rock/pop hits of the 1990s (yeah really: Paula Abdul and B-52s!). Why not Mexican music or at least some Elvis or Reba or something that would seem to fit in better? Why? The choice of music made the whole place, despite the loving attention to the interior, seem patently fake or, just as bad, like whomever was in command simply didn't care how the experience came across. The food however, I'm not sure about. Perhaps it's because I'm much more a fan of authentic Mexican over Tex-Mex, but I just wasn't all that greatly impressed. The chips are as good as anywhere, but the salsa, while fresh, was a bit bland. They also have a queso which I got and found to be also quite bland and had a taste that I would not want to call "stale", but wasn't as fresh and up-front as I would expect. Honestly, Moe's queso I think is better. I'd ordered the Baja tacos with fried shrimp and the size of the platter and the shrimp themselves was beyond ample, and the tacos were fresh and warm. However, the Mexican rice and refried beans were a bit lackluster--especially the rice. The sauce that the Baja tacos are served with lacked a strong enough flavor and they'd not put enough of this sauce on the tacos really to flavor them in any case. Moreover, it was more like a ranch dressing than the classic Baja taco sauce you'd find at most places serving fish or shrimp tacos in California (and I've lived in San Francisco) or even many taco stands in Florida. The dish just was too heavy on fried flavor from the shrimp and not enough balance from a sauce that should have added both spice and a creamy coolness. I will try Chuy's again and it's clear the chain has serious desires and goals for their restaurants and the one here in Gainesville is off to a good enough start, but the food wasn't quite up to the level I'd expected per the other reviews on here. Perhaps because I eat a lot of authentic Mexican food and Chuy's is, without a doubt, more Tex-Mex, that was part of the issue. I realize that most Mexican restaurants in the States do follow more of a Tex-Mex or New Mexican approach to Mexican vs a straight-on Mexican one. If you DO like Tex-Mex, you might like Chuy's a lot. I would recommend it overall over any other Mexican place in Gainesville with the exception of La Tienda, but I will still want my La Tienda tacos and other treats you don't find on an Americanized menu, regardless.

I liked it. But it didn't quite live up to the hype on Yelp. Margaritas were good. I got the strawberry-lime, and it was very tasty, although I don't think it came from fresh strawberries. Definitely some kind of mix (high quality mix, though). Price was decent for the size and the Texas martinis sound like fun. I saw on the menu that they use zing-zang mix for their bloody marys; zing zang is a GREAT mix. Food was pretty good. The salsa is very good and tastes very fresh; the chips, while fresh, are not really my bag. They're the very thin kind and I love thick chips. I ordered the enchilada and relleno combination, with the ground sirloin relleno and chicken enchilada. The plate was not swimming in beans, which was a plus but the relleno was really disappointing. The breading was good but the pepper and filling was bland bland bland! The red sauce drizzled on the outside was also nothing to write home about. Perhaps I should just stop ordering relleno in Gainesville if it's not from Tienda. I always end up hideously disappointed. Le sigh. The enchilada was swimming in some kind of tasty green sauce; sauce was good, but i should be able to see my food..not fish for it in a pool of sauce. Enchilada was flat, which I found kind of odd. Chicken was just ok. Also; no happy hour on Friday and Saturday and $3.50 for a bud light? This Gainesville. Get with it. All in all, the food is decent and the drinks are good. Atmosphere is fun. Service is adequate, and I really liked how they asked if we wanted to order drinks while we waited. Very nice touch. Way better than Las Margaritas or Napolera (both in food and atmosphere/service). I will be going again, but will probably get the fajitas since reviews on those seem good. If the guac is as fresh as the salsa, I bet it's really good too. Will be back.

    1. They charge you a fee for togo packaging if you place an order togo...that is garbage!! I don't know another restaurant in Gainesville that does that. 2. Their portions look huge but it's a trick because they load their plates up with refried beans, rice, and cheap shredded lettuce. 3. The hostesses are like zombies and just stare at you when you walk in as opposed to greeting you like a normal hostess would. They think that just because they are pretty they don't need to be personable. 4. I'm giving them two stars instead of one star because their tres leches is very good and so is the creamy jalepeno sauce.

Not my first choice place to eat, but it is the first place my husband and I go if we are feeling like having Margaritas and Fajitas for two :) - all of our servers have had a great personality and given great service, too!

Fast with good waitstaff and fast....so fast we were in and out 22 min...basically good nothing wrong but chips were good with basic Mexican not much more than good Mexican at a decent clean bright place.deserves a 4 star rating

Had a girls night out here... it was really fun. I have to say, the decor is a bit over the top and quite frankly CREEPY.... but the mojitos are good! Chips & salsa were delicious, along with the guacamole and queso. I got the chalupa which was also pretty good. I'm not sure how much I will actually make it over here, but it was fun.

With relatively good Tex-Mex like this, why bother going to Chili's (unless you want a burger)? Went on a Tuesday night and it was pretty empty, so service was fast and dependable. I love the decor inside, despite its cheesiness. Maybe it's because of the lights strung across the fake trees... Don't know what is is about those lights, but I love them. My boyfriend and I started with some chips and guacamole. Guacamole tasted really fresh, but there was nothing special about it. I also ordered one (or two) margaritas, and they were great! Simple, but strong. For our entrees, we each had an enchilada: I ordered the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom enchiladas and he got the special, sour cream enchiladas. Both our dishes were yummy! Love the sauces, including the creamy jalapeño sauce that we ordered on the side. Plates were well-portioned and very filling. Don't expect outstanding and authentic food like at La Tienda. However, Chuy's offered a nice ambiance, good service and tasty food.

Great for tex mex. Nate was a great server. He's very personable and honest. Doesn't stand in your face for too long. Just gets his job done and moves right along. I love the grilled shrimp tacos although I'm still hungry afterwards. The fajitas are great and if you're health conscious just sub out for a yellow or blue Co. Tortilla pass on the sour cream and cheese and add jalapeño and lime. Chicka Chicka boom boom is good although the portion is smaller. 2 for 1 margaritas will get the job done and the sopa pilla desert is to die fpr. If you want a funky and fun twist on Mexican head over to chuys. If you want authentic , Peppers is still the way to go.

Went in today during the grand opening. Sat at the bar, had fajitas. They were fresh, as was everything... but really, their first day, of course it was going to be fresh. They marinade the chicken and steak for 24 hours with Shiner Bock! I also had a Texas Margarita which I enjoyed, and gods do I normally hate olives. When they brought out the food, it had to be spread out so I was suddenly occupying 3 seating areas - which tells you how much food they brought me. I know we don't need no more stinkin' Mexicanish places, but I would recommend this one. If you bring a framed picture of your dog, you get a free appetizer, so there's that. Let's face it - Mexican (and Tex-Mex) food IS American food at this point. Staff was lovely, all of them.

Very short wait for a table - 5 minutes. Quick and very friendly service. Excellent tex-mex food. Large portions so you get some take home. Excellent coctail - Grandma Rocks margarits. Overall would highly recommend for tasty, mid priced food.

I've eaten here many times since they opened last year. My favorite dishes are the fish tacos and the steak burrito. They make their flour tortillas fresh and they are delicious. The marinade used for the steak is also excellent. Their retried beans are great. My wife is a bit fan of the tortilla soup. I've always had a good experience with service, in large and small groups, including our party of six from last night. I prefer the chips at some of the local, family-owned Mexican restaurants, but the chips at Chuy's are good. I have also interacted with the staff in some charitable events that they have donated food to. The restaurant was very generous to our organization, and very pleasant to work with.

I love this place! I'm surprised they're expanding out of "weird" Austin, TX. The food is fantastic and I understand everything is made fresh daily. Keep in mind the servings are HUGE... you must not leave without getting Tres Leches but I would say it's enough for 4 people! The value and atmosphere here is right on - fun and valuable!

Once again, sucked in here by the Yelp tractor beam. While visiting family in Gainesville we searched via our Yelp app...and immediately traversed the city passing chain this and chain that restaurants....and walked into this gorgeous and playful Mexican eatery. Sara our server, ran over to us to take our drink order within seconds and in within 3 minutes of walking in I was consuming some cold Dos Equis Amber. Quick to follow was some chips and salsa....Sara recommended a few sauces, but our favorite was an impromptu version of their house salsa....which was already great. She had the kitchen chop up some seranno peppers and added them to another fresh batch of salsa...wow. So fresh tasting and delicious...with perfect amount of heat. Other notable sauces were the boom boom, and creamy Jalapeno....uh....winning. My wife and I had one of the combos....Enchilada, chalupa, and taco, with refried beans and Mexican rice. Best Mexican food in Gainesville is an understatement - with a few travels between Austin, TX and Miami, Florida....this is the best Mexican food at a large restaurant I have ever eaten. Also a must try is their tortilla soup....not the standard creamy corn tortilla soup, but another version. Chicken and vegetables in a broth with tortilla (corn) slices floating in it. Very tasty...and a large portion. Please whatever you do....order the flan for dessert. Best ever. Such a great gem in Gaineville, and awesome Mex food.

YUMMY! Went here with my family and I am a huge mexican food fan! We sat at the bar and we were all stunned that you can sit by the bar and eat from their free nacho bar! You don't have to buy food we could've just ordered drinks at ate at the nacho bar that was delicious!! My sister and I each had one of the giant burritos that was sooo good!! My parents shared the fajita that was awesome! All of us had the steak which the server reccomended and it did not dissapoint! It was a very fun place to dine and have drinks! :)

The three of us (wife, hypercritical son and I) returned to Chuys for the 5th time in five weeks with inconsistent results with the two most recent experiences bordering on disappointing. Here's why. The staff has always been friendly and the dish of salsa and bowl of ships arrives within seconds. The variability starts with the salsa; sometimes watery, sometimes chunky, sometimes finely chopped with flavors varying. Will the onion predominate? Will the heat? At times, the salsa is excellent and almost enough to make a meal...other times, it's annoying. We are fans of the chicken fajita which is always been grilled from fresh ingredients and served on a sizzling plate. Last week, there was a modest amount of grilled chicken and just a few pieces of onion and bell pepper. Today, the serving of chicken was deficient and half of it was incinerated; it never should have left the kitchen. There was scarcely enough grilled veggies to fill a single tortilla. We've had the guacamole appetizer twice, informed by one waiter that it's the best that he's had. Meh the first time, better the second time, varying with some of the seasoning. The Chile Con Queso appetizer (a blend of melted cheese, green chile and ranchero sauces) has nice flavors but was too soupy to scoop with a chip. Of the last five visits, the first three were great with a first class chicken fajita while the last two visits were disappointing. We'll be back, hoping for the best and loving the Hatch Green Chile sauce. The check comes with a feedback form...I hope the manager reads it and the kitchen gets the message.

Ok, so I just moved back to FL and you know the only thing I was going to miss in Austin, TX was Chuys...Holy Sh*t balls, they have one in G-Ville!! A dream come true!! You gotta try the steak and cheese burrito!! It's as BIG as yo face!! LOL. No really, it's awesome and all their food they give a generous amount. Florida is complete now that we have a Chuys...So whatcha ya waiting for, go check it out!! (They didn't pay me to write this either!!)

I am very surprised at the positive reviews for the food at Chuy's. I ate lunch there today anticipating a great meal based on the positive reviews on here. Instead, I was left disappointed. I ordered the chicken flautas and they came with rice and refried beans. I love flautas and these looked great on the outside, but when I bit into the first one, I almost spit it out. The chicken inside the flauta tasted like old flavorless chicken that was boiled with no seasoning, not even salt or pepper... not very tasty. I decided to leave that one half eaten and proceeded to try two more flautas and found them exactly like the first. I moved on to the refried beans and they were equally bland, but more edible than the chicken flautas. I am really shocked at how much people raved about the food here. There is really good Mexican food in Gainesville, but this place is not one of them. I am giving 2 star because the service was good, everyone was friendly, and because the salsa was good.

This place rocks. I'd go there for their chips and pico. The fish tacos are amazing. No one else makes fish tacos like this place. When you order them as the dinner it's a little too much food so I often get just a fish taco as a side.

This is the best Mexican food in Gainesville. I have been to Chuy's for lunch, dinner, and drinks with friends and the food has been superb. Service is friendly, the bartenders are fun, and I appreciate that after my second or third time in I was able to sit down and they knew my name. If you sit in the dining room, ask for Victoria. She is a joy to talk to, is efficient at keeping up with large groups, and makes great suggestions for food and drinks. Suggestions for food and drinks? Check out the Chuy's brew on the rocks. It's not on the menu, but it's hella better than the already awesome frozen. The rellenos, particularly the shrimp and cheese rellenos, are my favezies. Boom boom sauce makes everything delicious. Ask for creamy jalepeno sauce to go with your salsa and chips... then pour it over anything and everything. Make sure you save room for dessert. Their tres leches cake is the best I've ever had... (and I've had quite a few!) They somehow turn whipped cream into something resembling marshmallow fluff, put a slab of cake the size of a stop sign in the middle of it -- moist, crumbly, delicious, sweetened-milk-soaked cake -- and serve it chilled. Amazing.

I've been to Chuy's 5 times for lunch and will continue to return. The food is fresh, the service is quick, and the various sauces are flavorful. The service is hit or miss, but I understand there is a rush during lunch hour and some servers are better than others... it happens. Will definitely return.

Chuys is now 2 for 2. This time around I tried out a bit more. First off, it was a bit busier on a Friday night as you would expect. While we waited, we helped ourselves to the chips and salsa bar. The salsa has a great fresh zesty flavor. While we waited, there were waitresses around the front entrance and bar area taking drink orders while you wait. A nice touch and distraction for the 30 minute wait. The Perfect Margartia didn't get its name just because someone thought it was clever (okay maybe it did but they hit the nail on the head!). It's a damn good Margartia, enough said. If you think the margaritas are great, you MUST try Chuy's Brew. It is a frozen margarita with a coronita in it. Delicious and worth getting. My friends and I probably drank 9 between the three of us. This time around, I had the Chicken Flautas. Delicious. The chicken wasnt dry. The sauce wasnt to thick or too thin. The flautas themselves were great and not too soft, not too crispy. The mexican rise with the refried beans is a nice side dish to the chicken flautas. Those who are showing a less then stellar reviews, have had just a bad day. I myself have been here twice, and have friends who have been here more then I have (7-8 times) since opening day and they've had great service. Hopefully it continues!

Great ambiance and wonderful area for a small group. The food is good Tex Mex style food with decent portions. Try the creamy jalapeno dip as it is really good with a mild spice to it. The Chuy's special is good as is everything I have tried in the 15 times I have been here. The decor is fun and the shirts nerdy, but that is what makes it what it is.

After eating here a couple of times now (yes, I missed good Tex-Mex that much), I have to say I am very impressed. This is actually one of the better Chuy's to which I've been, and I guess I've eaten at three different locations in Austin and one in San Antonio. I absolutely cannot believe how consistent it is with its older siblings back in Texas. Everything from the Hatch chili sauce to the tortilla soup is exactly as it should be. It turns out that I have a mutual friend with one of the guys on the opening crew that is out here from Texas, and I had a minute to speak with him about their approach to starting new stores. This chain really does sincerely give a damn about maintaining the quality of its food even as it expands. I'm not sure any restaurant chain that started off as a popular local haunt has managed that transition in the end, but so far, Chuy's seems to be. I hope they expand smart and pull it off. Pro tip: Try the Texas martini (Mexican martini for those of you from Texas) with Herradura and Cointreau. Damn fine drink on a hot day.

I am a celiac person and was first challenged at this restaurant but the waitress brought the manager over to our table (manager is Elliot) who explained what they could do. With a little instruction and coaxing I was actually able to have the chef fry in a separate pan the corn tortillas and then create a chicken nachos meal ... YUM! It presented great and very tasty - Thank you to the manager who went the extra effort!

Chuy's is one of my favorite places to grab a bite in Gainesville. They happy hour deals are great but are only available on weekdays. I usually get the Chuychanga or the taco salad. They put huge pieces of chicken in the burritos and they have a great taste. Bring in a framed picture of your dog for a free appetizer.

This place is okay. It would be a good place to go with a group because its a fun atmosphere and the food is affordable. But after living in Texas for 6 years and having Tex-Mex on a weekly basis, I can tell you, this pales in comparison. But since this is Gainesville and this is the only Tex-Mex place, it gets a 3 star because there just isn't that much to compare it to here. The food is pretty good, their margaritas were too sweet but we will be back. For the options we have here in Gainesville, its really OK.

I'm diggin' it. Gainesville has been really lacking in the Mexican food department (no, Las Margaritas is NOT good) so this has been a godsend. Although, my thighs and wallet would disagree. They have a good assortment of options, and on weekdays (I think 4-7) you can get free queso, beans and salsa from the cart near the bar. Service is solid; food always comes out quick and they are friendly. Decor is a little wacky, but it gives you something to talk about if your company is boring!

Decided to try this place again and paid over $12 for 1 chimichanga! I can get a chimichanga, chips, salsa, and a bowl of queso for $12 at La Tienda. This place is over priced and the food just isn't that great.

The restaurant is really big and colorful. I had been craving hungover chips and salsa and my go to Mexican place was closed so we decided to try Chuy's. Every employee there was super friendly and quick to please. When the waitress found out it was our first time, she quickly brought out a sample of all sauces/salsas the restaurant had (about 12). Now, while I did not like any of them, it was nice to get a sampling of them to see what I would get with my order. Most of them tasted like soup and none were particularly spicy. The chips were nice and warm, but the table salsa was watery and bland. I think most of it dripped on the table rather than staying on the chip. I ordered a combo plate with refried beans and plain rice while my husband had a chimichanga with the traditional pinto beans and green chili rice. My food was relatively tasty, but the beef in the taco and the chicken in the chalupa were under seasoned. I was also disappointed that no salsa came with my meal because both the taco and chalupa were missing some moisture. We asked the waitress for hot sauce, but were told they only had tabasco or their green chili sauce. My husband enjoyed his meal as well, but we found my "plain rice" had a lot more flavor and was spicier than the green chili rice. We saved no room for dessert. I can not necessarily say that I would be back... but my experience was just okay.

Stopped in for lunch on a Friday. The chips provided after sitting down are fantastic, as is the salsa and the sauces available for dipping as well (creamy jalapeño, especially. The major drawback for me was a lacking menu at Chuy's that could have some more options on it. The service was excellent, and the food was prepared rapidly. My Chicken enchiladas with Boom Boom sauce were good, but the sauce absolutely covered the plate, which was unfortunate. But that was partially my mistake for not getting it on the side. Overall, an above average place to get some decent Mexican food.

The decor is great. The chips and salsa are delicious but that's where it ends. The menu is lacking, there aren't many options. The food was fine, but definitely not great. This will be the last time we visit Chuy's. In my opinion, one can obtain better tex mex food at Moe's.

Not really real TexMex, but not bad for GvilleMex, though there others just as bad. No draft beer, not even a cold glass. Happy hour consisted of cold beans, oily meat, and a thin cheese mixture. The chile rellenos were chicken fried and served cold, beans on the plate were pasty with no cheese -- though the Mex rice was pretty good. Taco shells were mushy and the enchiladas were well sauced -- so hard to tell what they were. The best thing about Chuy's was the service, our server "Jose" did his very best, so hope things improve for his sake. They put a lot of money into their remodel and it looks really "pretty" outside. They just need a little more Mex in their Tex. Good luck with that....

This is a wonderful find hidden among the normal chain restaurants. The items on the menu are wonderful. Love the made fresh daily salsa. Each time I have been in it has been outstanding a a slight bit different. In a good way so that you know that it is being made daily. They make their own chips and tortillas. The only things not fresh on the menu is the french fries and the fish. Which is ok by me. As I dont even think about ordering them there. I have tried the steak burrito with the boom boom sauce. The Elvis combo and the chuychanga. All are excellent. I am definitely a repeat customer and recommend this place to everyone. The bar staff is great and make a great margarita on the rocks. The only thing that Chuy's can do to earn the last star is to slow down a bit. Every time I have been in there seems to be a rush. Everything comes out so fast and the wait staff are eager to rotate the tables. Each time after eating the staff would start clearing the table a little at a time. Letting you know it is time to leave. You kind of get the hint when they take your water away.

Have to do an update after having tried a few different items and knock off a star. The steak fajita burrito is really damn good and of course, big. The other items I've had were ok, but not something I'd go back for. Notably, the baja fish tacos didn't live up to my expectations and I certainly wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Not terribly filling, nor all that good. It's definitely an unconvential style of preparation. I ended up eating a couple of my daughters chicken strips when I had enough of the tacos. Overall though, it's still a good experience and worth eating there on occasion. It's definitely one of the few places where you get both quantity and quality for a good price (minus the fish tacos, of course).

Went to chuys for the first time yesterday. The food was great, our server's (JJ) friendliness, attentiveness, and knowledge was excellent. Free queso and chips during happy hour?? Awesome! The heaters on the patio were perfect to knock the 50 degree chill out of the air, and as an added bonus they allow dogs in the patio, so, I was able to bring my pup along with me. Will definitely go back, soon!

Here for my second time. The first visit, our server Josh was incredibly friendly and informed us of all specials, made recommendations, it was a great experience. The second time, after being seated, the server, whose name I don't even remember, came around after about 17 minutes. Took our drink orders then disappeared again for another 15 minutes. No drinks, no chips, no salsa. Finally our drinks came, the mojito tasted like rubbing alcohol, not the delightfully minty sweet drink it is supposed to be. The food took another 20 minutes, where we didn't even see our server. My quesadillas were tasty, but, the 'big as yo face' burrito was pretty soggy and flavorless. The best part of the meal was the creamy jalapeno sauce, which is pretty epic! Too bad we didn't get it until we had requested it 3 times and had already been seated for 35 minutes. All in all not a good experience.

The Gainesville unit is cheerful, staff friendly and predictable. What is lacks is the move toward slow food not fast food. Dishes are so sauced up, you cannot taste or understand what you are eating. Simplicity is trumped by messy over-loaded ingredients. Freshness it is not; starchy it is. Too salty. Best to cook at home.

Okay, Chuys has finally made it to Gainesville. Gainesville, you have arrived. Having lived in Austin,Texas for the past three years (the home of Chuys in case y'all don't know). I was ecstatic to learn shortly after moving here that a Chuys would be coming here to keep me company. My favorite Tex-Mex joint to go with all my friends and family when they came for a visit. So let's get down to business, we got a reservation during one of their training nights by responding on Facebook, so as far as service goes everyone was at our beck and call, I don't really expect it I be that way when the restaurant opens for good but it made for a great first experience for us. We got queso compuesto for an appetizer and we TORE through it! So good! Tortilla soup was also spot on. I got the Baja fish tacos, the fish was fresh and crispy, Chuys makes my favorite fish taco hands down. My boyfriend got a steak fajita burrito which is massive and was also just oh so delicious. I've felt the Mexican in Gainesville has been quite lacking and although this isn't pure authentic Mexican, keep in mind it's "Tex-Mex" which is its own phenomenon, this has definitely added a much needed punch to the local cuisine. Enjoy!!! Don't forget to order a side of the creamy jalapeño sauce with anything you order, you won't be disappointed!

After hearing Texas friends rave about Chuy's I finally got to try it when I was in Gainesville this weekend. For chain Mexican (tex-mex) it was decent. Chips and salsa were good. We ordered creamy jalapeno, deluxe tomatillo, hatch green chili, and regular green chili sauce as well to try with our chips. My favorite was the creamy jalapeno it was hard to quit eating. For an entree I tried the chicken chile relleno and the chicka chicka boom boom enchilada. Boom boom sauce was great. If we ever are back I will order my meal with boom boom sauce! The chile relleno was good, nothing special though. Beans and rice weren't very good. Apparently there is a choice of beans and rice, but we weren't offered one. Service was not good. Our waitress was obviously very new. She didn't know the menu at all and seemed a little overwhelmed. Luckily they had the chip bar open so we were able to refill our own chips. Overall it was pretty good and offers a few different options and sauces than a typical Mexican restaurant. Next time I need to keep in mind if you bring in a framed photo of your dog you get a free appetizer!

I've been here a couple of times since it opened and they have a really solid offering of delicious Tex-Mex food. Both times I got one of the combo meals that offered a nice sampling of their tacos, burritos, churros, enchiladas, and rice and beans. Each item was excellent, although I think I'd say I liked the enchiladas the best. They offer free chips and salsa like any decent Tex Mex restaurant should. Their chips, flour tortillas, and hard shells are made right in the restaurant, and each room of the building has a uniquetheme that makes the atmosphere enjoyable and fun. One word of caution though: the waits can be long. My first attempt to eat at Chuy's failed due to an hour+ long wait for a weekend lunch, and my first visit was on a Friday evening that had a 45 minute wait. If you're looking to avoid wait times, go for lunch on a weekday.

Finally! A good Tex-Mex place! We were there the Friday of the week they opened and it exceeded our expectations. We told our server that my wife is native Texan and I had lived in Houston for 10 years and that we had eaten at a couple of Chuy's there and liked them. The server sent the start up manager (also from Houston) over to chat after we told him our background. He was very interested in our input and very cordial. Our food was excellent (make sure you order the tortilla soup) and the service prompt and efficient. Excellent decor. The location is where Too-Jay's (off Archer, behind Lowe's) was.

there are lots of restaurant options on archer road, including tex-mex. we went on a thursday evening and the place was packed and noisy - it's interior is all tile and hard surfaces, reflecting all the sound from all the tables. food was adequate, there is better in the immediate area. we got the queso appetizer which was disappointing for the price. my wife did not like her food but she liked her margarita. my food was ok, i've had better. the portions were moderate, not large by any means. there are too many other options that are better in this area and i will not go back.

I can't help but think the good reviews on this place came from people who are vested in this business. I have never had bad Mexican food, until this place. Went for lunch, they didn't have any lunch specials. The queso was almost $7 and it was terrible. Tasted like hormel chili with a packet of gravy thrown in. I was speechless. The food left much to be desired, I had enchiladas, my husband had the "big as your head burrito" and both were very bland. I was really sad that TooJays left this location, but Chuys did a great job remodeling so I was happy to have another restaraunt there. However, they will never last with their terrible food. One star because the service was decent.

Our first time at this or any Chuy's. The hostess was very friendly, but not over the top. I like that balance. We waited less than 10 minutes. Once past the lobby, the noise was overwhelming. I know the staffer taking us to our table had a lot to say to us, and I have no idea what she was saying. We immediately noticed what a wonderful job had been done renovating what was a very drab and uninviting building. Excellent job. Our waitress arrived on overdrive. Suddenly in rapid succession, "Can I get you a drink, can I get you an appetizer," and we hadn't even opened the menu. It's important to breathe just a little, even when stress is high. I ordered a premium margarita that came out as if it had been dragged through the salt mines. Even after I wiped off most of the salt with the sliver of lime, it was not drinkable. They offered to make me another one, which was very impressive. We ordered premium nachos (not sure that's the exact name) and they were excellent. Somehow the chips were actually chewy, which I though was appropriate given the name of the place. My partner ordered chicken soup, which he described as "real." That means he liked it. He also had fajitas, which he liked very much. As the meal progressed, our server settled down a bit, although throughout the meal she asked us questions and then was halfway past the next table before we could answer. Now get this. Admittedly, it did take some extra time for the fajitas to arrive, and shortly behind them came a manager apologizing for the wait and informing us that he was comping the fajitas. That is amazing customer service, which we always appreciate. We were too full to try dessert, although tres leches, which is on the menu, is one of my all time favorites. So, we had some glitches and overall we had a very good meal. We will go back and look forward to great improvements as Chuy's gets into its groove. Good addition to our plethora of Mexican food options.

Want to leave Gainesville and take a trip to a big city but don't have the time or money? Just dine at Chuey's! You will feel you have left Gainesviille for a bigger city. This is not your typical Gainesville restaurant. There is nothing in this town like it! Food, service, and atmosphere is amazing! Salsa was so darn fresh it still had bubbles from just being whipped up in the food processor. No two bowls taste exactly the same but they are all good. Chips are light and thin making it less likely to fill up on them but still possible.... between the fresh salsa, creamy jalepeno dip, and the freshly made guacamole we ordered it kinda happened anyway. I love all the pictures on the walls and the palm trees in the middle of the room as well as the tile work and the ceiling. You just have fun sitting in there. In the bar area were pictures of local people's dogs as someone mentioned before you get a free appetizer for bringing a photo. I loved the Elvis tribute in there as well. We were seated next to the homemade tortilla making stand where you can watch 3 women making fresh tortillas from scratch. Let's talk food, I orderded a burrito the first visit and picked from their selection of sauces to top my burrito with. I believe there were about 6 different choices. I will try them all soon enough. The "big as yo' face burrito" had to go in a box because it was huge seriously! The beans taste really great and fresh.... you can actually see pinto beans in them unlike that runny baby food puree' some places serve. Today I ordered a signature dish called a chuychanga, it was stuffed with chicken, cheese, and cilantro. This dish was also a giant portion. They have a vegetarian enchalada I want to try next time because the assortment of vegetables looked really interesting. Some places just give you the mix they throw in with fajitas you could tell they had given it some thought. If your server is busy don't worry several friendly faces make sure you have drinks and chips restocked regularly. Our server was very busy and a man named Gabe made sure we didn't notice. He refilled our drinks and brought chips and boxes. There were 2 bus boys in our dining area and any unwanted plate or empty salsa bowl was removed promptly. I am somewhat picky and this place surpassed my expectations. Grab some friends and head to Chuey's they will all give you praise for being the one to introduce them to it.

Wait staff was very nice, but honestly the food was pretty pedestrian. Massive portions that seem to concentrate on quantity over quality.

    (5)
  • Elizabeth R.

    (2)
  • Derek S.

  • Alyssa C.

Good food except there are no Carnitas and no beer in tap. Sat at the bar and had poor service. She was more interested in taking care of the drinks for the table servers than the patrons sitting in front of her. They did have complimentary chips and queso.

Taco salad, beef and chicken fajitas, refried beans, guacamole dip, queso dip, we cannot say anything but great food. Everyone was nice and helpful for new people like us. So much food and no way to eat it all. If you come to eat ask for Miggy, he did a great job!

Eh.

  • Amber H.

  • Alexandrea M.

I have never had a bad meal from Chuy's. There are five outside I Texas that I know of. I have been to all of them.
