We were on the beach when we came across this place, it seemed like your average tourist destination. We started out with the fried calamari ($12) and figured it would be your average size appetizer. Nope. It was definitely enough to fill up two people. A family would definitely love this. I got the tasty basket and filled me up pretty quick. My fiance got the grouper basket and it was very fresh. The price is very good for how much and quality of food. We loved it. Would definitely go back.

Not so great. I had the pulled pork nachos as an appetizer. Cheese sauce was grainy and tasteless. The pork was good, but did not make up for poor quality sauce and chips. My husband had the rocket salad. Shrimp was really good, but was over powered again by cups of Bleu cheese added to salad. My entree was mahi tacos. Horrible. Bland, lifeless fish drenched in super sweet gravy type sauce. I ate the fish and left all else on the plate. The server never even questioned why I didn't eat anything. Daiquiri that we had was super sweet too. Obvious mix that was heavy handed. All and all next time i will try another place. Oh yeah, and my bill?? $55. Crazy.

We stopped there for a quick afternoon bite and left very happy. We had the shrimp Po boy, shrimp-in-the-rough, and Cajun grilled shrimp salad. All were very good!! Additionally, we were there at happy hour and apprecciated their novel way of offering a discount on drinks!

That 5 ***** is for the Rockefeller, we stopped in recently on our way back from Orlando...so worth the detour. These are hands down the most delicious Oysters Rockefeller in all of SW Florida , if not the world. Our waitress, was busy, and totally on top of everything. We had cocktails, 2 orders of these & then some other apps. Everything was so wonderful. We're making the 1.5 hour treck the next chance we get- They have updated the decor, it is now more sophisticated, but a little less kitschy and charming. Prices are still competitive, ( why? I don't know it's them or the other one restaurant on the key) - It's not gourmet fancy stuff, but reliable, delicious seafood.

Are looking for shrimp? Lock & Key is the restaurant you want to visit if you are looking for a shrimp dish, of which there are several. They do not skimp on the size of the shrimp! First thing you notice is they must be using no smaller than 16/20 size. Possibly U15's or U12's.

Been coming here for 10 years, always good food. We always stay across the street at the Castaways Condos, making the Lock & Key walking distance from our beach front unit - all the better! We order take out a lot & bring it back to dine on our deck. The grouper sandwich is awesome & their coconut shrimp is also a favorite. Great place to watch sports - they have several flat screens throughout the bar area.

Had the half pound burger with beef brisket and onion ring (I know ... I think I gained five pounds from this meal alone!) ... but it was perfect! My wife had a salad with coconut chicken and she'll tell you it was the best food she had all week (on vacation)! Our waitress was great ... big smile and clearly enjoyed being there and interacting with patrons. Highly recommended for a great, casual dining experience.

Had dinner first night in town. Delicious. My son's dinner (Cajun grouper) was the best. It was a very large piece of fish cooked perfectly and was superb. I had the stuffed shrimp, sweet potato fries and salad. All were delicious. We always eat here at least three times when we are in town! The bread assortment with dinner is a delight! Thanks for the consistently great food!

Love the atmosphere. The place is chock full of retired locals and they have a full bar. I can definitely see myself as a bar fly here later in life. However, I was in town on business and a local brought me here for lunch. It was very good. I had the fried grouper sandwich with chips and a tea. We were working so no cocktails. I'd love to go back and try some other dishes and cocktails.

Blackened grouper was dry and lacked flavor. Crab stuffed salmon with hollandaise sauce was okay. Green beans were dried out. Both were overpriced. Carpet was disgusting. Service was good, very friendly and attentive.

Not worth it. Restaurant had a foul order at lunch time. Monte cristo sandwich was $10 and dry with out any mustard. Spicy crab cakes were just fried "stuff". Hard to find crap and NO spice. Both came with chips that were good. Two ice teas, sandwiches and tip was $35.00.

Location, Location, Location... This is a landmark restaurant on Manasota Key. I have been here dozens of times in the last two decades and always leave happy and satisfied. Seafood is plentiful, fresh, and delicious. My favorites are the Coconut Shrimp, Prime Rib Sandwich, and the Grouper Sandwich. The onion straws are a great way to start or just as a snack. You can count on good service here. Happy hour is fun! They give you a pull tab for a chance to get a discount with each drink ordered. As I remember, it is up to half off. Adds to the excitement. It is located across the street from the beach and a great place to relax around sunset. Parking is much better now that they paved the parking lot. Can't wait to visit again....

We've eaten here a few times before and the food is ALWAYS excellent. Staff is always welcoming and friendly. The reason for a 4 today is I ordered a short beer and it was a TINY glass. I've never seen such a small glass for a beer. I've had beer here before and they did not serve in this small glass...not that I can remember. The other thing is when we walked in there was a strange smell. I was wondering if the carpeting had been flooded lately? It looks like it should be replaced with something other than carpet. Carpeting has a way of holding in smells and that bothers me when eating. I would also recommend either dusting the fans above and plants or replace. Other than that I HIGHLY recommend coming here for the beautiful sunsets, great food and good people. :)

Fun place, good food, good bar. I was in the area on vacation and tried this place a couple of time. Love the happy hour tickets, a chance to get a drink for fifty cents or half price. The food... is pretty darn good. Had the Oysters Rockefeller appetizer. Good oyster, lots of spinach and just enough cheese. Good choice. Tried a cup of chili. This is a sweet chili with beans. It's good! Garden salad was fresh and very good. My main course was a 10 oz. NY Strip steak Came with steamed broccoli and a baked potato. The steak was well seasoned and good quality. ....Aces! Veggies were good. My sisters both had parmesan crusted chicken over butter linguini. . And both sisters give a thumbs up. Nice size dining area, you can also eat outside. Bar is smallish, but again, you can sit outside. The staff was polite, friendly, attentive and payed attention to the diners. I give the staff 5 stars. Parking is kind of tight.. Clean. I liked it.

This place is poppin! Denise was our waiter and she recommended the Cajun seasoned any fresh fish. I ordered the mix trio, Brussels and mango salsa. My wife ordered the chicken Parmesan and my mother in law ordered the grouper. Conveniently placed next to the beach, locknkey also had promos for appetizers if you use their text messaging services. We all drank water. Enjoy!

after a long hard day of basking on the beach with some friends, we were kinda hangry. it was getting late, but luckily Lock & Key was open. no regrets here... the food was fantastic, reasonably priced, and the service was very friendly. trust the yelp reviews and order the grouper... so freakin' delish. i had a blackened grouper sandwich with a generous portion of sweet potato fries, and it was the perfect meal. oysters were fantastic- not crazy gritty or chewy- just yum. they also had a drool-worthy salad on the menu- i believe it was called the south beach salad... coconut fried shrimp, mango, fresh mozz slices, dried cranberries, pecans... i almost chose that over the grouper! the burgers looked yummy and got good reviews from the boys. they even accommodated a vegan in our party by concocting a pasta dish full of veggies and seasoned well, which was very much appreciated. our group of 6 sat in the back, on the covered patio- the weather that night was perfect for it! our server was sweet, friendly, and attentive. we never felt rushed, and our orders came out without errors. if i ever find myself in the area again, i will definitely make a stop here for some good eats!

One of the few restaurants in Englewood and one of the handful of late night places. We went here twice during our week stay. As another reviewer commented, ordering the same dish on different nights can be very different tasting. Overall food is 4 out of 5, good but not outstanding. I think the locals come here more for the pub and party and it looks like they deliver on that.

  • Deb P.

First time there, service was great, food was ok. A little overrated and the prices reflect the typical tourist prices. Coconut shrimp (6) was 24 dollars and overcooked, and the calamari appetizer was greasy and overcooked, and came with marinara dipping sauce (Boring). The Hogfish (first time for this) was delicious and the raw oysters were the freshest and biggest I've ever seen, also delicious. All in all we didn't feel cheated when we left and we were all full for 120 including tip, there were 3 of us.

  • Andy D.

The pork nachos are so good. We go to take a short break from the sun. Right across the street from the beach. Good service. Friendly. Only downside is that you can't quite see the water from the outdoor patio.

  • Catherine R.

Happy hour pull tab fun... Get your beverage at the bar for 50cents, 1/2 off, or... Kind of a drinking lottery game :-) Pulled pork nachos are heavenly - tender and generous portion, plenty for 2 Tuna sashimi was tastiest I've had, cooked perfectly and Very fresh When busy parking can be tricky, but beach lot is right across the street Great staff. Casual. Great location; Right across from Englewood Beach

HAPPY HOUR! really great happy hour idea! Only at the bar when you order you get a card per drink, peel back one of the 4 windows and get your deal. My first was "half off"! Second was 50¢!!! This is fun lol

Ate here twice in the past week. We all loved it so much the first night that we went back a few nights later, all ordered the same exact meals but they were not the same. Different cook probably but we were a little bummed the 2nd time (Saturday). Family of 4, we have been a fan for many many years. Daughter ordered kids chicken fingers, the best around. Another got the prime rib sandwich, both times cooked correctly. Husband haddock sandwich & me the macadamia crusted chicken, a dish I dream about its so good! I never order chicken at a restaurant, unless it's this, smothered in roasted garlic cloves and sauce, it's a dish that is pure comfort food. Great service and atmosphere. Will return next time we are in town.

  • Katlyn R.

This was not our first dining experience at the Lock and Key, we have had several great meals there but tonight surpasses them all! Each entree that we ordered far exceeded our expectations. Our service was top notch. The only negative thing that I can report was my husband's old fashioned was not up to par. Overall, we will always come back to the Lock and Key every time we visit Manasota Key for vacation!

Excellent. Food was fyummy and fresh, service was excellent. Had the south beach salad. Lots of fresh yummy mango, peasants and mozzarella and of course shrimp. My husband had the cheeseburger club. We'll be back for sure.

This is a great restaurant for all ages.. Went with my parents and my kids and everyone was happy. I'd say the best part was our server.., sorry I don't know her name because she was great. When you have kids you really need someone like her who is on her game but also she was great with suggestions. I followed her advice and got the gulf tuna and it was awesome! Prices are decent for a restaurant almost on the beach. We will definitely be back!

Always a delicious meal and a great location. Tends to be pretty noisy inside but the food never disappoints. Great view and friendly staff. Love to visit local restaurants and have our company enjoy!

Often passed this place up previously while visiting Manasota Key and Englewood area. We had a party of 8 for lunch today and it was very enjoyable. Much better, I'd say, than the nearby places we had been chosen other times. The food was great, service was very friendly and appropriately timed. You can choose to sit inside or out. I would have preferred the outdoor ambiance and sound of the surf, my fellow diners overruled in favor of A/C. Still, very comfortable and we really enjoyed lunch. I had mahi-mahi sandwich, loved it. Oysters first. I saw grouper fingers, some sort of shrimp with coconut stuff, veggie sandwich, hamburger and hotdogs on our table. So there was a little of everything and everyone enjoyed their meal. My only complaint would be that they would not give us the Wifi password. The whole key is horrible for cell signal and many of us would have liked to get a proper internet connection. The server said they don't give it out anymore because people sit and drink water while taking up space. Well that just doesn't seem acceptable in this day. I understand that may be a problem, but I feel that should be managed with a policy, tables reserved for paying customers only. Definitely would go back again. Will harass them about the wifi every time.

  • Beverly S.

Our meal was great! We wanted great grouper sandwiches and cold beer! Could not have asked for more. It's a big noisy room, but we had spent the day at the beach and felt very comfortable in shorts and flip flops. Service was good. Will definitely go back another time.

Plain and simple- the food was delicious, the view of the sunset was incredible, and the staff is a little ditsy and nonobservant, but not enough to ruin an evening, just be annoying.

Love the LnK! Been coming to the island since the 70s and LnK for over 25 years, and they are always great. Inside or out, you can't go wrong. Good island food and service. Nothing in particular for kids, but mine always love going. Will be back!

  • Jaclyn N.

Always crowded so the must be doing something right. I've been here twice and not overly impressed. Had the seafood salad which was okay but kind of pricey. Another visit had a crab chowder soup that was horrible, thick and pasty with tons of imitation crab meat.

  • Bob B.

I'm on the fence here on whether it's a 3 or a 4 but I will give L&K a 4 solely based on what else is available in this neck of the woods. The food is on the high side for what it is. My dad loves the crab cakes and I think it's the only thing he has ordered from here. I've had the stuffed grouper which is good. Last time I ordered the grouper sando and got it blackened. It was really good. They do HH, but to take advantage of it you need to physically get up from your table and go to the bar. Pretty lame. Service is always friendly, the live music is nice and the view for the sunsets is great because the restaurant is located right across the street from the beach.

I' m a caddy on the LPGA Tour. I was in town for stage II Q school. On Oct. 1st. 2014, I got done early and decided to go have a beer and some lunch. I was there the night before and enjoyed it. But on this afternoon I was offended and because of that I will never go back and encourage my fellow caddys and Tour Professionals to do the same. Being in the Golf business my whole life I have learned one thing above most of all, YOU DO NOT CHEAT !.... Well, I sat at the bar and ordered a large draft and a menu, I was the only person at the bar at that time- it was about 1:30, and got my wallet out and asked if she needed my credit card to start a tab. she poured the beer and then told me they had a game at that time and handed me a ticket and told me to pull one tab off and that was what i would pay for the first beer then walked away. I selected the third one down, there where four total. I pealed it off and it said 50 cents. when she returned I asked if that was a good one (having never played before, I did not know what was under there) she said "ya that's the best, but the bottom one looks like it was pealed a little" and then ripped it off to reveal the word 'Full'. While she was doing that I told her that I don't cheat or lie then asked her what that meant. she said full price. I told her that's all wanted to do in the first place, but she handed me another ticket. I pulled one off and it said full. I stood up and told them i never wanted a discount anyway and now you have accused me of cheating. I told her i'm going somewhere else. i never touched the beer and she could care less that she accused me of something I would not have done if my life depended on it.

Food was mediocre and over priced. Ordered the market fish sandwich with salmon. While the salmon was cooked nicely, I expected something more than a plain white hoagie and a single piece of lettuce. At least toast the bread... It came with a side of cole slaw that could barely be called a side. It was served in the same size to go container you would get of ketchup or mayo, a little larger than a quarter. Also ordered the market fish salad with salmon. The fish was a little over cooked, but had nice flavor. However, most places don't consider a 'mixed green' salad to consist soley of romaine lettuce. The staff was friendly.

Wonderful place to eat. They make a great Miami vice also. Great service from Rosanna, fun lady.

The Mojitos were excellent, lots of fresh mint and a healthy dose of rum and the place was lively considering it was mid-September.

Good food, good atmosphere and GREAT SERVICE! Went to watch the sunset and needed to get something to eat afterwards. We first went to the place up the block (DON'T GO THERE) but could not get in and tried here on a whim. It was very busy and at first we felt a little under dressed but our server (Andrea) calmed our fears and made us feel right at home. She explained they had several large parties celebrating birthdays. Even so the staff (hostess, server, bartender & busters) were smiling, friendly & working their buts off. We had the drunk'n pig burger & the seafood combo. The burger was cooked exactly as ordered & had great flavor. The grooper fillet was huge! All in all great place for a quick bite after a day at the beach, for drink while watching the sunset or a special occasion.

Surprisingly good! The menu has a lot of show stoppers like: grouper, crab, shrimp and NY strips so I was a little leery but wow, they certainly delivered! I went with the marinated NY strip. It was fully charred on both sides. The marinade was sweet (brown sugar maybe) and salty (soy sauce). Of course there were other flavors but I couldn't distinguish them. We also ordered the grouper with burnaise and it exceeded our expectations. With the fish's light taste, the cream sauce helped bring the dish to it's full potential. Other wins: amazing side dishes, outdoor live music, and friendly staff.

Best food in town! Lock N Key is right on Manasota Key. It's a great place to dine after going to the beach. Their specialty is seafood but all of their food is delicious. If you're going for lunch I recommend their Cuban Panini. For dinner, their South Beach Salad is exquisite. This salad has coconut shrimp, lettuce, pecans, and raspberry vinaigrette. For dessert I would recommend their coconut crème pie. Best pie I ever ate! Not only is the food great but it's a great atmosphere and the staff are very nice. You can enjoy dinning at the bar, indoor dining, or the patio area. Lock N Key has live music pretty much every night as well. If you're looking for a great dining experience, here it is.

After a long beach day and all you want is a good fish sandwich with a cold beer. This is the perfect place. Great customer service with sweet smiles. You won't be disappointed. I went there with my family and everyone was super happy with everything!

Ok. So if Englewoid you must go to lock and key. Been going for 16 years. Fantastic in one word. Love the food. Love the service. Never ever had a bad meal. EVER! Fish is fresh. The bar outstanding. Come off the beach and get a margarita or pinia colada.

Excellent meal! Great looking, fresh food. Our family sat in the open air"deck"area & there was a nice breeze off the beach from across the street. I had the Sizzler Salad, and WOW, it was the best salad I've had in a long time...the cajun grilled chicken was moist, hot, & perfectly seasoned, and the salad was filled with flavorful ingredients...dried apple slices, cranberries, candied pecans, gorgonzola cheese, and the pumpkin bread on the side was wonderful. Kid #1 had cheeseburger club, he said it was great & he couldn't finish it. Kid#2 had loaded hot dog, it had melted cheddar filling the roll & hanging over the edges. Husband got fried grouper & really liked it. Will definitely go back!

Given the options in the area, I give this place a 3, but in any other beach locale I've ever been to, it would be a 1 star. Food isn't very good, but at least the clientele are a little more "mainstream" than the joint across the street- scary! Service was good.

Much better dining experience tonight than last night at Howard's! Wow. The hubs and I have stopped here for drinks and appetizers coming off the beach, and he informs me we stayed and had dinner one time, but I don't remember because we probably had a few drinks on the outdoor deck and stayed longer than we intended to and kept ordering food outside. Ha! So tonight, for me, was my very first "real" dinner dining experience at Lock & Key, in their indoor dining room. It was awesome from the get-go. The room was packed, but they found us a two-top and seated us right away. Our server, Melissa, was efficient and attentive, friendly and very helpful when I couldn't decide between the Hogfish and Mahi Mahi entrees, even though she was clearly quite busy. We decided to pass on an appetizer since we'd had some snacks at home a couple hours before dinner. I will admit, I had a very difficult time deciding on what to order from the menu. It's not that the menu is particularly huge -- it's just that every darn thing on it makes your mouth water. There were literally six things on there that caught my eye. I was going to go with the crab-stuffed grouper, but in the end, decided to go out on a limb and try something different. After a nice discussion with Melissa, I decided on the Hogfish special. The specials menu stated it was covered in artichokes, mushrooms and scallions and tossed in a light tomato-cream sauce served with rice pilaf. I had no idea what hogfish was. Melissa described it to me and it won out over the Almond-amaretto Mahi Mahi special that also caught my eye. Chris went with crab-stuffed shrimp, also with rice pilaf, and a cup of the seafood gumbo to start. It was a delightful dinner. Chris gave me a taste of the seafood gumbo -- um, YUM. Peppery and authentic. That was followed with salads -- a tossed one for Chris and a Caesar's for me (your choice with most entrees -- tossed dinner salad, Caesar salad, or coleslaw). The Caesar's salad was good, but would have been to-die-for with fresh-grated parmesean instead of "shaky cheese," and just another little teeny drop of dressing (it was a little dry). Also, the variety of fresh-baked rolls was amazing. They were delicious. Our entrees were outstanding. The hogfish was melt-in-your-mouth perfect. The huge chunks of mushroom were velvety and super fresh. The tomato-cream sauce was just right, too...not too heavy or rich, and tasted more like a tomato than cream, which is always a plus. Even the rice was seasoned to perfection. Chris shared a bite of a shrimp with a little of the crab stuffing. Blew me away. Both were cooked/broiled(?) perfectly. They were moist, but crispy on the edges as if they'd been grilled. I will definitely be ordering that dish on a return trip. His beers were icy cold and my house pinot grigios were also a lovely complement to the meal. Since tonight was our anti-Valentine's dinner date, we decided to share a dessert. There were about 10 choices -- let me see what I can remember -- coconut cream pie, key lime pie, turtle ice cream pie, turtle cheesecake, hot fudge brownie sundae, s'mores sundae...wow. So many overwhelming choices. We went with the turtle cheesecake. YUM. That's all I have to say about that. :-) The atmosphere was perfect -- no cheesy karaoke/DJ entertainment or yet another Jimmy Buffet cover band -- in fact, there was no entertainment at all, which suited us just fine. They may have had a performer in the bar, but there was nothing going on in the large dining room except a lot of people enjoying their dinners and the company they were with. It was a little loud in there, but that didn't bother us at all...we love seeing people having a good time. And no one was drunk or out of control, just lots of groups of people having fun. We had an amazing dinner at a great place, and plan to become regulars here. Go...I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed!

Went there today (Sunday) after spending some time at the beach and Loved it!! Happy hour was fun with their pull tab lotto prices, and the food was great!! Such a nice atmosphere with live music right next to the beach. Try the Grouper fingers!!! YUMM!!!!

Another subjective review and 4 stars by comparison to whats in the area. This place has a great patio, good bar, and pretty solid food. Its right on the beach where young meets old...really really old, so I understand that in Englewood its hard to please both crowds. They manage to do so with enough inventive salads, and sandwiches to please the younger crowd, with a few good cocktails as well, plus they have enough early bird geezer food to please the blue hairs that live in the area. It is one of the best easy eats in the city, and you really cannot beat the location

If you love the beach atmosphere, eating right in front of the beach, good food and a Strawberry Margarita every now and then, you will love Lock 'n Key. My first visit to Lock 'n Key yesterday (for lunch) left me wanting to go back ... especially for more of that yummy coconut pie. (See the picture!) My friend, Kathleen Herron, and I both ordered the Patty Melt for lunch, and shared a big slice of the spectacular coconut pie. Truth be known, we ate the pie first, then ordered the Patty Melts. My kind of meal! Very good service, delicious food, and located right in front of the beautiful beach on Manasota Key. Don't miss the opportunity to eat at Lock 'n Key if you are anywhere close to the Sarasota area.

Good food but a little pricey. The crab stuffed grouper, the grouper sandwich and the boom boom shrimp were good.

The food at the Lock & Key has been consistently good for years and they now have an outdoor seating area which is so pleasant on a nice day. I've never had a bad dish here.... from fresh fish to prime rib, all good. My new lunch favorite is the South Beach salad served with coconut shrimp. Delicious!

Went here on a Friday night during our vacation and we all thought that it was really good although the service was a bit slow. To be fair, there was only one person covering our side of the restaraunt and being a Friday, it was jammed. I had the stuffed shrimp and I feel like I got my money's worth and my bride had the fried shrimp and she seemed to like those also. We ordered the hot fudge brownie sundae for dessert and it was exquisite.....really good. A word of warning though...it's big, two people could share one sundae. This place is worth a stop after a long day out on the beach.

Wife and I had dinner and drinks at the Lock & Key. We ate at the bar, service was excellent and bartenders were very friendly. Wife raved about Sizzle salad. I had the 10 oz steak Au poive. Cooked medium as ordered. Lock & Key is across the street from beach and was very busy. Would recommend.

Had difficulties with outside waitress ignoring us but Barbara and RoseAnn in the dining room were excellent. I recommend the fried grouper sandwich and the black bean burger. Yum!!!

Lock & Key is a must stop, every time I'm in Englewood. Usually dine there a few times a week. The food is fresh and well prepared, I especially like the Salmon. The staff is friendly, and usually the bands are pretty good, last night the Cherry Bombs were playing, and they had the place rockin!

I ate dinner here with my husband and 2 year old daughter, and we thought our dinner was really good. This is pub fare, nothing fancy, but my grilled maui sandwich was delicious and perfectly seasoned, my husband really liked his fish tacos, and the happy hour specials were a good deal. Will definitely stop by again on our next visit to the area!

There are four establishments directly across the road from Englewood Beach: Gulf View, Lock & Key, Flounders and White Elephant. Gulf View $$$$ - Gulf View - Sunset View Lock & Key $$$ - No View Flounders $$ - Bay View - Boat Access White Elephant $$ - Bay View - Boat Access This establishment is popular with tourists, snow birds and locals. There's a full bar inside and stools and tables facing the beach outside. Happy Hour, at the time of this writing, runs from 11am to 6pm. Each drink is accompanied with a pull tab card resulting in "Full Price", "Half Price" and "50 cents". Several TVs are inside. The restaurant has an inside area and a covered outside area with TVs. When there's a band it's located next to the outside area. The food is good, overall the wait staff is more experienced than Flounders and White Elephant. Locally caught grouper is popular, I like their prime rib for dinner and one of their salads for lunch. There's on-site parking that fills up quickly in the evening. Across the street there's always room in large parking lot for Englewood Beach. Locals claim that the parking enforcement ends at 7:00, but I'm not convinced. You can call ahead and get a quasi-reservation. Kids are welcome, but there's no special accommodation.

I will preface this with a note that I don't eat shell fish so seafood restaurants aren't at the top of my list. This place is good not great. There is open air seating and indoor seating. It is right across the street from the beach but it is not on the beach nor can you see the gulf. The menu is your basic fish menu. I liked that they had pumpkin bread on the menu. Our waitress was clearly having a bad day - I felt bad for her and it didn't add anything to the atmosphere. I really wanted to crack a joke to try to cheer her up but there was never a chance to do so. If you are looking for your standard sea food fare - this is a place for you. Manasota Key is pretty cool - nice little beach town area - low key. There are no other dining places close to this.

Whoa!!! One word, ok two...the "Grouper Rocket" sandwich!!! A "diners, drive-ins and dives" moment!

Once again fresh seafood at different price points so everyone can get something. I started with a coup of the New England Clam Chowder, which was nice and thick and had large chuncks of clams (the only thing is I think they could do with a little less potato). I also had the grouper fingers with sweet potato fries instead of french fries!! (I LOOOOVE sweet potato fries). I also was told they have really good Pumpkin bread for those who are interested. Service was a little slow when we went. But the overall dining experience was very pleasant.

  • Bethany V.

    (4)

Our meal was great! We wanted great grouper sandwiches and cold beer! Could not have asked for more. It's a big noisy room, but we had spent the day at the beach and felt very comfortable in shorts and flip flops. Service was good. Will definitely go back another time.

Love the LnK! Been coming to the island since the 70s and LnK for over 25 years, and they are always great. Inside or out, you can't go wrong. Good island food and service. Nothing in particular for kids, but mine always love going. Will be back!

The food at the Lock & Key has been consistently good for years and they now have an outdoor seating area which is so pleasant on a nice day.

Clean. I liked it.

Are looking for shrimp? Lock & Key is the restaurant you want to visit if you are looking for a shrimp dish, of which there are several. They do not skimp on the size of the shrimp! First thing you notice is they must be using no smaller than 16/20 size. Possibly U15's or U12's.

Additionally, we were there at happy hour and apprecciated their novel way of offering a discount on drinks!

after a long hard day of basking on the beach with some friends, we were kinda hangry. it was getting late, but luckily Lock & Key was open. no regrets here... the food was fantastic, reasonably priced, and the service was very friendly. trust the yelp reviews and order the grouper... so freakin' delish. i had a blackened grouper sandwich with a generous portion of sweet potato fries, and it was the perfect meal. oysters were fantastic- not crazy gritty or chewy- just yum. they also had a drool-worthy salad on the menu- i believe it was called the south beach salad... coconut fried shrimp, mango, fresh mozz slices, dried cranberries, pecans... i almost chose that over the grouper! the burgers looked yummy and got good reviews from the boys. they even accommodated a vegan in our party by concocting a pasta dish full of veggies and seasoned well, which was very much appreciated. our group of 6 sat in the back, on the covered patio- the weather that night was perfect for it! our server was sweet, friendly, and attentive. we never felt rushed, and our orders came out without errors. if i ever find myself in the area again, i will definitely make a stop here for some good eats!

His beers were icy cold and my house pinot grigios were also a lovely complement to the meal. Since tonight was our anti-Valentine's dinner date, we decided to share a dessert.

Always crowded so the must be doing something right. I've been here twice and not overly impressed. Had the seafood salad which was okay but kind of pricey. Another visit had a crab chowder soup that was horrible, thick and pasty with tons of imitation crab meat.

Our meal was great! We wanted great grouper sandwiches and cold beer! Could not have asked for more. It's a big noisy room, but we had spent the day at the beach and felt very comfortable in shorts and flip flops. Service was good. Will definitely go back another time.

Enjoy!

The pork nachos are so good. We go to take a short break from the sun. Right across the street from the beach. Good service. Friendly. Only downside is that you can't quite see the water from the outdoor patio.

HAPPY HOUR! really great happy hour idea!

Are looking for shrimp? Lock & Key is the restaurant you want to visit if you are looking for a shrimp dish, of which there are several. They do not skimp on the size of the shrimp! First thing you notice is they must be using no smaller than 16/20 size. Possibly U15's or U12's.
