We really enjoyed it. Ate here a couple of times on the side porch with our pooch-- Very dog- friendly!!! The food was delicious, coffee was amazing!! Staff very friendly!!! Would definitely suggest it-- never got the breakfast-- but looked great!

It's hard to recommend this place. Service was good. Food is just okay. AC unit had condensation and kept dripping on to the table, and sometimes into our drinks. I was here to eat brunch and the almost entire party (10) ordered something different. The reaction and the taste was not anything special. I ordered Waffles and bacon. Very simple. Yet my bacon was burnt and the Waffles were over cooked. Would I go back here to eat? May be.

Uh....no no no Atmosphere -no Food- no Service-no I ordered a burger and it was terrible, really not tasty at all dry and was for sure a frozen patty which isn't BAD unless it's cooked poorly. Waitress seemed lost and not to with it, Even the French fries weren't good (I've never disliked a fry before) all in all go somewhere else!

Ask for Shontelle if you want excellent service. The seafood platter is best when blackened! This place is also great for breakfast! More food than you can eat, split the meal. :)

Loving this restaurant; simple beach front fare that you would expect from a place like this. Crab legs smelled exquisite and briny with that salt water flavor. The shrimp po'boy sandwich was delicious, I think it could have used a little remoulade or some mayo, but I really think I just wanted a big pile of the tender juicy fried shrimp. I'll get a shrimp basket next time I come. Don't pass this place up if you want some great and uncomplicated seafood.

Despite the mixed reviews, my husband and I tried this place out as he isn't a big seafood eater. He had a beef brisket sandwich that he seemed to like quite well. I had a fried group sandwich, which was also good. The hushpuppies were also pretty tasty. The service was attentive. We had no issue at all on that front.. Yes, the prices are a bit high, but you're on the Island. Everything is pricey. Overall, it is a decent place to eat. Nothing to scream and shout about, but it is another choice for some non-seafood fare.

This place really deserves a solid 4 stars. Everything was homemade, including the kids chicken strips. We really enjoyed our lunch, which was reasonably priced. Get the barbecued pork.

Your typical "welcome-to-Florida-here's-a-platter-of-fried-seafood" restaurant. It's overpriced and the quality of the food leaves something to be desired. We went in a group of 5 and ordered some of the aforementioned fried basket meals. The restaurant was nearly empty, and it took an extremely long time to get our food. Also, our drinks went empty more than a few times. I ordered a shrimp po-boy with a side of fries. The fries were okay, but the po-boy was lacking on flavor. Po-boys are supposed to have tartar sauce, and this did not. The waitress brought me Thousand Island dressing, which was awkward, but served the purpose. We also ordered a side of fried okra and it was sub-par. I don't think we'll be back.

I just made my second trip to the Beach Pit. The service is solid and the owner is a really nice guy. He also owns Black Marlin down the street. I just can't get that excited about the food at Beach Pit. I had the pulled pork sandwich last time. This time I had the large baby back rib plate and my wife had the smoked turley sandwich. The onion rings were good but the meat itself wasn't great. I'll go back to the Black Marlin next time.

We really wanted to like this place but it just didn't work out us. Went for dinner on a Sunday night and found it near empty. Nice island décor and friendly, if timid, server. Had oysters on the half, Brunswick Stew and the key lime pie. The oysters were fresh and plump and the Brunswick Stew was very good. We had seen a picture of the key lime pie on their website and were excited but the real thing was disappointing. Small and lacking. A couple of days later we went back for lunch and again found a near empty restaurant. on entering immediately noticed that there was no AC. On top of that the AC seemed to be dripping water onto our table. I ordered a draft beer from the menu but learned they were out of it. I then ordered my second choice of draft from the menu and learned it too was out of stock. We decided to cut our losses and left and won't return.

The grouper sandwich is delicious. The BBQ is not good at all. Not even mediocre. I would say overall the restaurant was ok. Nothing to write home about.

This place is GREAT! Love, Love, Love it! We spent a week on the Island, and ate here everyday, sometimes twice. Friendly staff, good prices, good food! What else could you ask for while on vacation! Would love to spend more time on the island, just to go back to The Beach Pit! Oh! The mini cheesecake....YUMMM!!!!! You can't go wrong by visiting The Beach Pit!

My husband and chose grilled and fried shrimp which were both very good. The crab claws were delish! It is a very casual place and the service was quick and friendly. Felt like eating at home in Alabama. :) Fourth of July night waiting for fireworks and other places on the island had 2 he waits. The beach pit was not right on the beach so we only waited a few minutes. Overall very pleased.

Went with my 86 year old grandparents and we all had a great time. We were shocked at the great value for breakfast. Service was terrific they were polite and speedy couldn't ask for more. Portions were sizable and eggs were cooked perfectly. My grandma got poached eggs that had a little too much water in them (no big deal) and the cheese grits weren't terrific according to her. (She's picky about grits.) but that's the only thing I could say needs improvement. She liked it overall agreed with me 4 stars out of five

Oysters are old and tired at lunch. Noticed they smelled foul and we were told they were shucked fresh daily .... in the morning!!!! WTF?! I'm accustomed to gulf oysters shucked fresh as ordered. These were dry and funky. If you're traveling for and looking for Appalachicola oysters, go to another place. These will disappoint you. The rest of the food was good. Great pork and tasty sides.

  • Brittany S.

Cost to much for what you get....potato soup and hush puppies were good, however the meat had a burnt taste and the fried food ( chicken ) tasted like it was cooked in really old oil and had a fish taste . It wasn't so bad you couldn't eat. But for the price you have to pay it should be way better.

We eat here every year for the chili cook off for breakfast. I have never had such a horrible experience. Our waitress forgot to put in our order. "She got busy". After waiting 30-45 minutes for our food, it came out cold. When we asked for the manager all they did was give us a 20% discount. We were originally a table of 3 when our order was put in. We had some friends come up that made us a table of 7. So a gratuity charge was added. So the 20% discount was counter acted. We finally were able to speak with the manager he argued with us stating he did what he could. I would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone. Horrible service, cold food, and poor management.

The restaurant interior was not much to look at, but the food was good! Fried shrimp were plentiful and delicious, BBQ dishes that we ordered were very tasty too! We all ordered fries and three out of the four servings were good. My fries were a little greasy so left most of them. Waitress was pleasant and very helpful, talked us into checking out the breakfast menu and we're going back to check it out!

We went to this "Beach Pit" the day after we had eaten at the one on Highway 98 in Eastpoint ( they have an identical menu so they are related - I think the one in Eastpoint took over the location that was "Captain Snooks" previously). The meal at the Eastpoint location was just as satisfying as the one on SGI, but there were few customers - perhaps an indication of a new location. Went for dinner on a Monday eve. The venue is funky but quite pleasant - it fits the name well. Moderately busy but with sufficient friendly and efficient staff so that everything moved along at a good pace. I had the fried shrimp dinner which comes with a side salad and one side, for which I selected baked beans (since this is a BBQ place as well I thought their beans would be good and I was correct). The shrimp were excellent, large, and there were almost too many to finish (almost). the breading is light, crisp and not greasy and the shrimp "pop" with juicy sweetness. The three hush puppies included were also toothsome, moist and with a pronounced onion flavor. She had a dozen raw oysters and a side of cole slaw. The oysters were large, fresh and tasty and a very reasonable price of $8, which was much less than the nearby Eddy Teach's for the same thing. The place is really 4.5 stars but that is not an option on Yelp - I do not give out 5 stars very often. .

  • Steve W.

Oysters were great. The food was ok. The service was very bad. Our waitress messed up my order. When u asked if we could just sub one thing out she took my whole plate instead. I got my food after everyone at our table had finished dinner.

  • Lindsay W.

We had lunch here while vacationing on the island. It was a nice, mostly clean place. (Some worrisome ceiling tiles and dusty nic-nacs). The food was yummy and for the most part, reasonably priced. Service was great, even though it did take FOREVER to get our food. I ordered a baked potato with brisket, figured it was my dish that was holding it up. When our lunch arrived I had a potato as big as my fist... I do not have big hands FYI. Which means, I had a really small amount of beef this was the most disappointing. The beef was tender and flavorful. I get lunch portions and all, but this was definitely on the skimpy side. Fried okra was good. I was told that the shrimp salad was really good too. And barring a squirt bottle explosion, the BBQ sauce(mild) was quite good as well. So if it hadn't taken so long and they hadn't totally gypped me on the size of my meal it would have been a four star experience.

  • Mike H.

Not memorable and was disappointed with my fried grouper sandwich. Who serves a sandwich without lettuce and tomato? I guess I had higher expectations for the seafood since we were in such a seafood abundant area but should have known better for a place that can't figure out if it's a BBQ or seafood restaurant. Service was slow and server was not familiar with the drink menu which was annoying.

Love love love this place! Have been on SGI for a week and have eaten here 3x's already! I like the fact they have picnic tables in the patio area, my kids (ages 2&4) found that fun. The fried shrimp are, IMO, the best on the island. The kids tried the turkey sandwich but it wasn't what they were expecting...it was better! It wasn't thin deli turkey but actually a thick cut slice of smoked turkey and it was delish! Didn't try any bbq besides the smoked turkey but if the turkey was any indication it is fabulous! The best thing though was the onion rings! My mother, an Atlanta native, said they were BETTER than the Varsity...I personally would not go that far, but they were fantastic and didn't have too much breading or grease...just enough of both :) The servers are mostly very nice and the casual environment is nice when you're being a beach bum!

So far this restaurant is short staffed, two waiters, 1 bus man, no bartender(s), 5 people and we ordered our food and waited an hour never received the salads. Dang?!? And their ribs sucked and smelled like they were dipped into the gas grill not grilled. Heineken tasted like it so that's why they get a star.

Went here for lunch and really enjoyed it. The place was clean and open and we were seated and had our drinks quickly. Had a Bloody Mary which was good but didn't have any olives in it. Next we had a bowl of Brunswick Stew and Gumbo. The stew was good and had nice size chunks of BBQ in it. The gumbo had plenty of seafood in it also. We got the bowls and they were good lunch size portions. The service was good and everyone was friendly.

The shack on St. George Island offers classic touristy eats. We had no problem finding a table at 11 am on the 4th of July. Decisions had to be made in a snap, breakfast or lunch? Lunch seemed like the more appropriate option. The oyster po' boy with onion rings tasted quite good. A simple po' boy with lettuce and tomato in between toasty bread. The oysters were great, but they skimped on the portion. Could've easily placed five or six more on the sandwich. The onion rings were the best part of the meal. I'm talking about a crisp, flavorful batter and perfectly cooked onions. The way an onion ring is supposed to be enjoyed. Our server was nice, even though she had a quiet personality. I still haven't forgotten about the hostess who ignored us when we walked in. There's just no excuse for that. The meal became mildly awkward when the music turned off for about 10 minutes. You could hear a pin drop. Besides the BBQ and seafood platters, the prices are normal. If I'm ever on the Island again, I'd give this place another shot.

We had a party of 7 to eat breakfast on a busy holiday weekend. They sat us quickly because it was not packed. We waited for 10 minutes before anyone took our drink order then another 30 minutes before our food order was taken. They "ran out" of several things on the menu, one of which we were told several minutes after our food order was taken. By this time, a table of 6 that were seated after us and the rest of the restaurant had been served, finished, and were leaving. We can't speak of the quality of the food because we left money for our drinks and left, with our waitress verbally displaying a terrible attitude following us to our vehicles.

  • Heather C.

Thumbs down. I got the shrimp po boy and it was only 5 fried shrimp on a hoagie - could have easily fit another 5. It was so much bread I just ended up eating the shrimp. My fries were cold. My fiancé's salad was mediocre. Our waitress was very friendly which was nice. So many great places to eat on the island and across the bridge, we won't be back.

Came to St. George for the day and stopped by to get some food at the Beach Pit. Nice relaxed place that was pretty clean. Servers were polite but a little disorganized and frazzled. I had the pork sandwich and it was good. Overall not a bad place to grab lunch if your in the area.

This place was awful. The service was horrible, we saw 2 couples walk out because they were ignored for over 5 minutes. We were planning on leaving right after we had lunch but both my boyfriend and I got so sick that we couldn't leave. He had a hamburger and I had an omelette, mine was so bad I could hardly eat it and he got sick within minutes of leaving.

We had dinner there a couple of nights ago and will not go back. The food wasn't good at all - some reviews said it was "decent resort food" but I can't even say that. My wife brisket (supposedly cooked that day) was really tough and waaay over done. Everything I ordered came out wrong (from the salad ingredients to the meat temp). The service was OK but after having worked my way through school as a server I was definitely not impressed. FYI the place is always empty - Blue Parrot across the street is packed with people and good overall. If I could give 0 stars I would!

We had just arrived at SGI, and didn't feel like cooking or driving into Apalach. The reviews for Beach Pit were mixed, but we decided to give it a try. It's September, so not too crowded right now. We really enjoyed the food and would definitely go back. The service was a little slow, but we are on vacation time. The mullet dip was really good, and served quickly, which was good since we were starving. I had the grilled shrimp with fried okra, and both items were well prepared and seasoned. My kids loved their fried shrimp. My husband had the tuna, and he raved about it. The side salads were basically just lettuce with some cheddar cheese on them, but the main meals were very good.

Overpriced for what you get. Most of the food is OK but they serve corn on the cob that tastes like it has been cooked in dishwater, 3 inch cob $2.50. Won't be back. Beer was warm too.

Stopped in for a late lunch and had the best BBQ ! Sorry we've missed this place for all times before visiting SGI ! Can't wait to try more of their offerings !

Overpriced for what you get. Most of the food is OK but they serve corn on the cob that tastes like it has been cooked in dishwater, 3 inch cob $2.50. Won't be back. Beer was warm too.
