Talk about great food for an amazing price. I've had this infatuation with Japan ever since I was a teenager and that drove me to live there for a time. When I came back I had to get my fix of Japanese food, and had read a few reviews about Maido. I was skeptical because I knew it could never be like what I had over in the Land of the Rising Sun, but how wrong I was. Not only did the food had an authentic taste to it, it had nearly the same affordable price I experienced in Japan. The food is delicious, the staff and owners are extremely friendly, and they are all multilingual (English, Japanese, and Spanish). My favorite thing to have is a bit of Kawahagi (fish jerky) with Asahi Super Dry Beer for an appetizer, then have the most delicious katsu-don I've ever had (pork kutlet in a rice bowl). The sushi is also spectacular. It has a very fresh flavor, very different than your Publix or Chinese Buffet type sushi. If you have a craving for Japanese food, or simply want to try something new, I definitely recommend this place. Been going here for about 5 years now and will continue to do so.

This is a great place for ramen. The noodles always come out perfect and the portions are good. It's a small place in a plaza that I would never guess is hiding a great restaurant. The sushi is always fresh and good. It's priced well, always has good service and great food without the crowds. What more is there to ask for?

Maido is serious Japanese food. Genya runs the kitchen, and puts out terrific Kansai-inspired cuisine, while Hiroshi does a splendid job at the sushi bar. Be sure to look for their specials of the day, they always have great stuff there. Also their sake selection is better than most, with some interesting choices. Can't think of anything negative to say, except they should be closer to my house!

Authentic. Great place. Gets a bit crowded, but food is top notch.

Really really good sushi! Neat little place. Uncomfortable seats. Recommend the Japanese squash roll and the butterfly roll. Also their tempura is amazing!! :) love this place

Came here for lunch. Great value and quality. The lunch specials are perfect for the budget. I ordered the sushi bento box and iced green tea. Attentive and friendly service.

Exceptional Japanese restaurant. We enjoyed very fresh and tasty sushi, delicious age dashi tofu, and yummy ramen.

This place is really good! Their food is super authentic and delicious! You can tell it's all fresh ingredients and that the chefs know how to make it properly. Not to mention it's all super cheap! Only con: if you're buying sushi rolls expect small portions.

My fav japanese in Miami by far. Many options, top quality, never dissapointed. I work nearby so I go there quite often. From the bento box to the tiger fish jerky...you will find a real japanese taste. Udon, ramen, rice...all delicious.Very fair price for what you get. Totally recommended.

I'd start off with saying that I've had better quality before, however, given the bento lunches are such a steal and customer service was good, I'm going to inform you that this place would actually be 3.5 stars... If only we could do that though. I had the sashimi bento box which included miso soup, ginger salad, a Cali roll (8 pieces), shrimp & vegetable tempura with the tempura sauce, and sashimi (6 thick slices) -- all for only $9.50. It's the cheapest bento I've ever had and it wasn't so bad. The tuna took some gnawing but the salmon was good enough and the yellowtail was okay. I absolutely love their ginger dressing. My honey had the kaisen-don bowl (assorted sashimi on a bed of rice) for only $15 and it had a little bit of everything. I really liked their uni and eel (it was our first time eating uni). So for what it was all worth for lunch, it was pretty good. I wouldn't come for dinner though; would rather take advantage of their lunch specials!

Another place that I found on Yelp due to the solid rating, and I'm glad to contribute to the solid rating. The waiter described the sushi & sashimi combo dish as "white fish, a California roll, and some other things", which sounded very bland, but for some reason I ended up ordering it and it fortunately was amazing. It came with lots of slices of raw fish on rice and off of rice, which had various delicious tastes, and did indeed come with the advertised California roll. Prices were reasonable. High Points: The sushi & sashimi combo plate is a wonderful presentation of tons of different types of seafood! Low Points: Tiny drink selection (unless I grossly missed something).

The ramen at Maido was pretty awful. It was the saltiest soup I have ever had in my life and I've eaten a lot of high sodium one bowl meals in my lifetime. I could have forgiven the error if it was salty and scrumptious but it was not. They need to find a new source for their bamboo too. It was extremely fibrous. It felt like I was chewing on tree bark. Young bamboo can be delicious, but I did not find that here. There were three paper thin pieces of pork in my bowl. I could barely taste it. Thank goodness the noodles were alright as well as the bean sprouts. Awful outing overall. I was tempted to (but didn't) ask the server for a bowl of boiled water to add to the broth since it was so salty. We also tried some of their lunch time sashimi special. Sadly the tuna was a bit stringy. 2 stars. I can't honestly say it was "A-OK."

Great sushi and sashimi combo, but I've had better - certainly in Japan and Okinawa - and CA. Strip mall ambience, so there.... Wouldn't go out of the way, but a solid choice if you want sushi near SOUTHCOM.

Best Sushi and authentic Japanese food in town. Their lunch is very inexpensive less than $10. Draft Asahi !! Go there quite often with the family, owners and waiters are very friendly.

Update - January 09, 2015 I keep coming back because the Ramen and Udon noodle soups are really the best I have had in my neighborhood. The service has improved remarkably and you actually feel like a welcomed guest. The sushi is fresh and more in line with the traditional concept of minimal rice, the dab of wasabi, and the presentation is always a work of art. I am upgrading my rating to four stars in light of all these changes. If you're in the area and have that hankering for traditional Ramen or sushi, this is my best recommendation. Here's two tips..... *Slurp a lot! When it comes to noodles, nothing says you love the soup more than loud slurps! *Tip in cash! There's a lot of hard work that goes into making sure you have a wonderful dining experience. Nothing says "You did a great job!" like a good cash tip!

Authentic Japanese restaurant, not a trendy fancy sushi Japanese fusion stuff. If you are craving for traditional Japanese food, THIS is place, the food is good and fresh. Rolls are simple and very traditional. The lunch bento box specials are a steal! My favorite btw, is the pork ramen with extra everything (pork, bamboo and sprouts).

I love sushi and I'm always willing to try new places. This restaurant is located in a shopping center in Doral. The menu is varied and includes a lot of small Japanese plates in addition to sushi and sashimi items. I particularly prefer simple nigiri or rolls and tend to stay away from Americanized versions of sushi usually found on most restaurants which include chunks of cream cheese or spicy mayo. So after perusing the pictures posted by other yelpers I decided this was my type of place, we headed there and ordered the sushi moriawase, a side of japanese pickles, sake and a couple of hot dishes. The food and the service were good and the prices were reasonable.

i'm a party of 1 for lunch so its easy for me to get sat.... especially if there's a bar area. I went in for lunch (around 1ish) and sat immediately at the bar (big groups, you might have to wait a bit) I ordered the bento box. I've honestly had better boxes but you can't beat the price, $9.50. and $3.50 so a small warm sake, which is like the PERFECT size for lunch. the sushi wasn't bad, the miso soup was good (not too salty) overall, I'd come back to this place. ::thumbs up::

If you leave in Miami, come to Maido for its authentic Japanese ramen. Suggestion / tip: if you are indecisive I would suggest you to get the kimchi ramen - here it is like a tonkotsu ramen but with filthy cents extra you will get kimchi on top. Not a bad deal for your buck. For anything authentic Japanese, besides the bunch Americanized (fake) sushi chains which Americans like, it is hard to find an authentic Japanese restaurant like maido in south Florida. No, I'm not referring to the asian fusion or 'sushi' in restaurant names, those are targeted to Americans. I am referring to Asians liking real Japanese cuisine. Food: tonkotsu ramen, kimchi ramen, agedashi tofu, and more. On top of this maido is centered in the heart of doral. You will find this place easily.

Maido is a hidden gem in SW Miami! I used to go here often with my friends from my tea ceremony class at FIU. If you order omakase and are savvy to Japanese food you will not be disappointed. Their homemade tsukemono (Japanese pickles) are delicious as well. Fish is always fresh, presentation on omakase is always rocking and the chef will often make special shoyu (soy sauce) to complement his selection for the evening (for instance he made a nattou (fermented soybean) based shoyu and it was delicious!) If you can read Japanese, ask for the Japanese menu, it won't disappoint. The menu has a mix of izakaya style offerings, Japanese country style offerings, and contemporary rolls/sushi. Ramen is excellent here and highly recommended (get extra chashu with your ramen) Their sake list is decent but they have the best selection on the big 1.8L bottles, oh and Asashi on draft too (from a real Japanese draft machine!!!)

One of, if not THE, most authentic Japanese restaurants in Miami. Their onigiri is always perfect and their sushi rolls as well.

If you're looking for authentic Japanese cuisines then this is the place. The mochi ice cream alone got this place 4 stars. We had a spider roll, volcano roll, and spicy tuna, mochi ice cream, and tempura ice cream. All were delish!

No better place to eat at this time! The food is off the chain! I really enjoy coming here!!!

    (5)
  • Mario R.

I've tried probably everything on the menu and have loved everything! For that reason, I'm going to bump it up to 5 stars! I still wouldn't recommend the Omakase unless you ask for a special version and are willing to pay more(the quality is worth it, I just don't feel it's worth paying $30 for 2 pieces of toro and some uni since the rest of the plate is essentially the basics). All in all, the sashimi is of excellent quality and the kitchen makes several authentic japanese dishes that you'd be hard pressed to find elsewhere. As far as rolls, I wouldn't come here for that. This is more of a traditional Japanese spot, and that is definitely not a bad thing IMO. However, if you're used to eating at places like Sushi Sake(not to knock them) or are a sushi novice, this may not be the spot for you.

Awesome!! Great food, great service! The avocado rolls are amazing. It's a small place and might look a little questionable, but the food really makes this place. So long as you're coming for good food and not overly concerned about ambiance, you'll be totally satisfied!

Excellent, casual Japanese restaurant. Cooked dishes are real standouts here, such as the sea bass and hamachi kana (yellow tail jaw). This is a Japanese-run restaurant, so is the real deal, however, it's very laid back. The servers are extremely pleasant, although not necessarily the most talkative. The best idea is to sit at the sushi bar and chat with the chef. I saw them prepping some fish, too, so it's really cool to watch how they work. Knife work is surprisingly good, and the rice is tasty. There isn't a ton of variety of fish, but I suppose they focus on some staples. Uni is good and they have a strong suit in yellowtail and even sweet shrimp, amaebi (served with the fried head, too). I did a sashimi-sushi omakase as well as a side of edamame and ohitashi (spinach). Finally, I had a grilled sea bass special to add some warmth to my meal. The side salad is not the best quality (literally thrown together), so I'd opt for the miso soup next time. Like most Japanese restaurants, dessert is not a strong point of the menu, however, this is fully rectified by a strong sake list and excellent Japanese beer. YUM! What a gem in Doral. One other point, there are a lot of Asian customers, but the Caucasian crowd gets by easily with the bento boxes and Udon noodles if you're not feeling adventurous.

The food here is always fresh and flavourful. You can tell this is a good Japanese restaurant because every time you enter can see a solid regular clientele of native nationals. Once you enter the place, you will be welcomed with a warm customary greeting from Hiroshi-San and his team. Food is really good, for example during weekdays the have a lunch special menu that is around $11 and is just perfect comes with miso soup, rice and an assortment of the different entrees prepared for the day, being it fish or beef or chicken, etc. Of course there is the regular menu, with several options where to choose from and also great sake options if you like the Japanese national beverage. Great place!

Maido rocks! The best sushi I've had in Miami! If you are looking for authentic, fresh fish cut generously with a favorable rice to fish ratio then drive across town to Maido!

5 stars all-the-way. It's so worth going out of the way to get to Maido when we are in South Florida. The sushi selection is creative, delicious and top quality. I've been back a few times through out the year, and the experience is always top notch.

This is my favorite "hole-in-the-wall" Japanese restaurant in Doral. The food is authentic Japanese from their sushi and noodle bowls, to their bento boxes. I've tried a variety of dishes and enjoyed each one. The restaurant is small and gets packed for lunch so go before 12 or after 1:30 if it's during the work week. If you're searching for some authentic Japanese this is the place to check out!

    (4)
  • Sara O.

If I could give it zero stars ... I would give that. I have no clue what the other customers see in this restaurant. I ordered the ramen and it tasted like it was out of the box and I've gone to authentic ramen shops and this ramen was just to sit down and cry. I also ordered a trio of rolls and the sushi wasn't properly rolled and the amount of tuna and other ingredients seemed like we are having a food shortage in Miami. I feel like I just wasted $40 on a pointless meal. Also the server ignored and very asked how the meal was going. I beg you please don't go here.

Going to drop you some knowledge on the best bento box around. Authentic with a great atmosphere and bilingual to even tri-lingual staff. Quick and well priced. Open hours are odd but you cannot ever complain. Never been so happy since being in LA to find some Japanese happiness in Miami.

I l've been here two times this week. I tried different soups, vento boxes, sushi & beers. This place is unique! I read other reviews about being authentic & they didn't lie. This place is truly remarkable. The atmosphere is very relax, outstanding customer service, and food is really really good. The only bad; they are extremely fast bringing the food out, so if you like to enjoy every dish slowly, I recommend to order your appetizer, then a soup or salad follow by your meal. Otherwise, you will get everything at once & very fast, regardless of how full the place is. BTW; do not expect to find here a Japanese-American style food/taste. I've been to Japan several times & food here as traditional or better than Japan.

Love going to this little gem of a spot for lunch. It's a bit crowded, but so worth the craziness. Lately I've been having their Ramen Noodles soup as my meal, but their sushi and sashimi is so fresh and delicious, it's a must try for any and all rolls. The Uni here is sooo fresh and sooo good, you would just want to order a pound of it!! Very very nice and courteous staff. Tip generously :)

The food was excellent and the service was quick. Can get crowded at rush hours but the service is never compromised! My friend got BBQ Beef over rice. I ate about half. It was amazing and tender. The rice was incredible and I will 100% be ordering that entree when I return. Her boyfriend got Shoyo Ramen- aka ramen noodle soup with pork. He loved it and keeps talking about it. After changing my order twice (because I'm obnoxious like that) I settled on the bento box. Be sure to check the wall for specials because this was not on the menu! I got it with BBQ Beef, Sashimi, California roll, veggie tempura, soup and salad. It was incredible, though I must say I wasn't a huge fan of their California roll. But then again it's almost always imitation crab and I despise that stuff so I shouldn't have been disappointed. Overall a fun experience and I would recommend it for a good sushi dinner!

If you like authentic Japanese food and a wide variety of Japanese tapas, Maido is the place to be. Some of the tapas are a bit pricy so I usually stick to the meals and soups. I have tried the Curry Croquette, which was small, but very good if price is not an issue for you. The soups are the size of meals and pretty satisfying along with some side dishes. This is what I eat at Maido: SOUPS Nabe-Yake Udon Kimchee Ramen RICE DISHES Katsu Don Yakiniku Don Tanin Don Oyako Don Katsu Curry MISCELLANEOUS SIDES Age-Dashe Tofu Salmon Skin Roll Onigiri Shake Onigiri Ikura If you are a sushi lover, Maido has a pretty good variety of sushi, but you can find sushi almost anywhere. It's the authentic Japanese plates at Maido that make this place special and very hard to find in South Florida. This place has gotten very popular this past year and pretty busy on a Friday night. There used to be no waiting time..

Having lived in Japan, there is 1 thing that I look for in an authentic Japanese place....KATSU CURRY and they do it well! Usually you'll get something that comes from a box ( which is easy to buy). I get their curry almost every time I go there. Try it and you will be convinced! This is a casual authentic Japanese restaurant with REAL Japanese food. What this means is that they have food that you would actually find in Japan and not just sushi. The 2nd mark of an authentic place ESPECIALLY IN MIAMI is the appearance of Japanese business professionals, or Japanese patrons in general. I have had friends from Japan find it and love it without me telling them about it. Pros: Real Japanese food, Japanese menu, casual ambiance, great staff Cons: In Doral, which is a draw back just for ME

Came here based on yelp reviews, and I have to agree authentic Japanese food in all aspects. They have delicious ramen and soups that was exactly what I wanted at the moment, they also have sushi. If you sit at the bar area you can see them making it which I loved. The prices were reasonable and the service was great, definitely heading back here.

  • Hammy G.

I've been coming here for probably more than six years now. I've tried a lot of their sushi, udon, and ramen. I was never disappointed. Their food is very authentic which is very very rare in Miami. The servers are all very nice. They remember that my dad likes their hamachikama and so always automatically come tell him whether it's available or not. I usually order the tonkotsu ramen if I am craving something very flavorful. If I want something light, any udon (make udon for me) is the way to go. I think the price is fine especially for the quality of the food. I have nothing bad to say. It'd be nice if they could expand their space though! =]

Real Japanese food. Great for a quick delicious lunch, it's quick and they turnover tables fast. You have the option of eating sushi or Japanese-style homemade food. The owner loves to speak with his guest, making it very personal too!

VERY FRESH fish, and great service, its a small hole in the wall, but the food is on point. Sashimi melts in your mouth and the rolls are delicious. Also had the dessert, fried ice cream was more like a fried ice cream sandwich MAGIC . 10 out of 10 will go again

Wow. I don't know why I've bothered going to other sushi places all these years. Maido is not a fancy restaurant by any means; I think that really lets you focus on the food. As an appetizer, I shared the tuna tartar. It is not the usual amalgam of avocado and spicy mayo I'm accustomed to. It had a wasabi sauce that was not too spicy but really let the fresh, vibrant-red tuna shine through. As my entree, I ordered the special of the night, which was the bento box. For only $17(!!), it included miso soup, salad, sushi, sashimi, California roll, and shrimp/vegetable tempura. I asked our server if I could change out the California roll for a simple salmon roll and he obliged without hesitation. The miso soup was probably the best I've ever had-so simple, yet tasted so good. The salad with ginger dressing was refreshing. Moving on to the roll: tasty moist rice wrapped around buttery fresh salmon--wow! I think I've been eating not-so-fresh salmon all these years lol (and I've been to MANY high end sushi restaurants). The sashimi and nigiri sushi showcased different types of fish, all very very fresh and delicious. The shrimp tempura was juicy, with very soft shrimp inside, perfectly battered and fried on the outside. For dessert, I had the mochi ice cream. It included 3 little balls of chocolate, strawberry, and red bean ice cream wrapped in the sticky sweet rice paste. Very tasty, not too sweet, and overall a great ending to a perfect meal! The service was phenomenal. Two different servers (and one of the chefs!) passed by our table to make sure everything was good. The bathroom was also spotless; this is often how I judge a restaurant, and Maido passed the test with flying colors! Needless to say, this has become my go-to sushi restaurant!!! Never going anywhere else again!

I have to say, i know my sushi. I am a ny native and a sushi lover. I have been disgusted in the past over sushi in south florida. So far over the last 5 years i live here i found a handful of descent places and this place has by far been the best. Will definitely become a regular.

Not much ambiance, but really amazing quality fish. Try the Osaka-style Mackerel pressed sushi and the Deluxe Moriawase. Just fantastic! Quite reasonably priced for the quality.

I'm so glad I found this place! The food and service is outstanding. The Shoyu ramen was to die for and was big enough for two. Also, the gyoza dumplings were delicious. I would totally recommend this place and I'm definitely coming back next week. :) 10/10

Went in on a wed around noon so the place was packed. I wanted to order ramen to go but they didn't offer it because they didn't have containers for it. How can you not have containers? ok whatever so I dined in and I ordered the kim chee ramen. I was not all impressed, the soup did not taste all that great, the kim chee was nasty. What seems to sell around here are the bento boxes, they were pushing that while I was looking at the menu.... "that's the lunch special..." blah blah It took forever for her to get me my bill and when I gave her my credit card, that took another 10 mins just to get it back, wth. I will have to go back and try their bento boxes other than that this place is just ok. They're chinese serving japanese food so it's not all that authentic in my opinion.

Ramen here is yummy. The bento boxes for lunch are a great option for weekday visits. I had a killer deep fried tofu with a light dip. They take great care in preparing the dishes. I always introduce people to the place when in the area, especially FIU students.

Recommended by a friend, I was told this was one of the most authentic Japanese spots in Miami. I've never eaten authentic sushi, but this place is so good. I love they're Bento boxes and always get a piece of the o'Toro sushi. YUM. Very fresh and the service is really good. I've gone there many times for lunch and and have yet to have a bad experience.

  • Christopher R.

Four stars = 5 stars from me 3 stars from my gf. ALL of the items I ordered were wonderful. Pickled chicken gizzard, seared beef tongue, grilled Hamachi collar, and udon with egg and roast pork. I would have payed DOUBLE for the fish collar which was perfectly buttery and fishy. My gf had a dragon roll and salmon rice ball which both felt fairly pedestrian. There was no lack of freshness just a lack of punch plus they forgot to bring the sauces she asked for (and she loves her sauces). All in all go for the fun of the bento and the authenticity of the cuisine but if you have a craving for sushi and already have a favorite sushi shop, stick with it.

  • Will L.

Fantastic food & service! Fresh seafood is the best!!! Felt right at home as soon as I arrived at the restaurant. The waitress suggested a number of food items that were great. I especially liked the for S sushi. You can't go wrong ordering anything in this place.

    (4)
  • Gawayne K.

The food was ok. The staff was friendly but the waitress did not check on me that much, had to hunt her down when I was trying to change my water to a diet coke. If you're into sushi, this maybe a place that interests you. I'm not a sushi fan but it comes in the bento box so I had the California roll which was pretty good. Overall, I really didn't like the place that much and I probably would not go again.

When I walked into the restaurant, my first impression was that it was a mom and pop laid back establishment based on the lack of decor and the wall of white boards with dishes written in both Japanese and English. After looking at the menu (all in black ink comic sans) I realized how inexpensive some of the basic rolls were so I ordered a JB tempura, spicy tuna, and some tempura sweet potato. After ordering I noticed that the three other occupied tables had ordered ramen bowls for the majority and wondered if that's what I should've gone with. I was right. The sushi was pretty cheap tasting. The spicy tuna wasn't really spicy, actually it didn't really taste like anything. The JB temp was pretty bland, and the tempura wasn't even crunchy. The sweet potato tempura wasn't hot and the dipping sauce that came with it tasted like lightly salted water. The eel sauce was salty (it's usually sweet, right?) and the spicy mayo was actually good. In the end, I'd only go to Maido if I were to try the ramen. But I'd never go back for sushi. The service was fine, but I guess you get what you pay for.

This place never disappoints. All their food is on point and authentic. Most of their customers are Japanese, so this lets you know that the food is the real deal. The kimchi ramen is amazing and the gyoza's of course.

Good food. Authentic style. Good service. Lunch is great too.the noodles are great. The bento box is great too. Located in the middle of Doral. Will come back here!

Overall, Maido is a great Japanese hot meals restaurant in the area, better not try the sushi, the tonkatsu ramen is a must . Uncomfortable seats and not so clean, the price and service are ok. Be sure to look for their specials of the day!

The REAL DEAL. I lived in Los Angeles for 2 years, and really enjoyed the authenticity of the Asian cuisine there. It is far easier to find a good Japanese place there, and as much as there are very good sushi places in South Florida, finding a place that does non-sushi Japanese cuisine is VERY hard. This place is actually 35 minutes away from where I live, and the first time I went, I didn't look at their listing's schedule info... They close for a few hours between lunch time and dinner time, and I happened to show up during their in-between break. I was a cranky, hungry lady! Lucky for me, although I never hang out in Doral, I had to return a few days later, and it happened to be during lunch time, so I went in. Well worth the initial hassle! Since you can really have sushi in many places in Miami and Broward, I really had my mind set in having a nice katsu cutlet with Japanese curry. Upon reading the menu, however, the Dragon Roll caught my eye, so I ordered it as an appetizer, and also ordered the Chicken Katsu as an entrée. - Dragon Roll: Small pieces -- perhaps the server knew it was way too much food for me -- and although I'm usually a fan of eel sauce and spicy mayo, this roll had none, but it was SO FRESH it needn't any! - Chicken Katsu pieces with a side of steamed white rice: I actually thought it would be a cutlet, but it came in pieces; it was delicious, though, so no complaints! The Japanese curry dipping sauce comes on the side. This dish, and apparently most of them come with no rice, so I ordered it as a side. Just perfect! - Iced Green Tea: Yaaaay! I know it sounds silly, but I love me some iced green tea! Not a lot of places offer it, so it was a perfect touch. They had a good selection of desserts, including red bean ice cream, green tea ice cream, and all sorts of yummy tempura sweets, but I was stuffed -- and avoiding having to call a tow truck to take me back to my car -- so I kept my dignity, and didn't have any. The total with tax and 18% tip was around $30. Not bad! I love the fact that they also make ramen! I mean, you can get sushi, Japanese curry AND ramen in the same place. That is rare in South FL! It's also worth the mention that the place was totally packed at lunch time on a Monday. So in short: try it, even if you have to drive a little. Maido wasn't the Best Japanese Restaurant in 2011 per the Miami New Times for nothing.

Glad I found this place! It's definitely a hidden gem. Doral lacks any good ramen joints and Maido's ramen and udon game is straight properrrr. I've tried the Ton-Kotsu Ramen (roasted pork slices and vegetables in a pork broth) and the Kaisen Udon (mixed seafood in a seafood broth). Both of which were off the chain. They make some pretty tight gyozas and shumai as well. I've never tried the sushi because everything else calls my name way louder every time I stop by this place. Decor is subpar, service is pretty fast.

I almost do not want to review so I can keep this restaurant to myself, but alas, not only have many other people reviewed it positively, it would also be unfair to the restaurant itself because they deserve all the business they can get. Their food is very authentic and delicious. I adore their simple sushi rolls, usually ordering a couple of Yasai and a Spicy Tuna roll. Simple, clean taste without the heavy sauces that accompany other places that want to appeal to the american palate. Their hot Sake is very reasonable so on special evenings you can have a small ($3.50) or medium ($7) - I warn you the medium should be shared, it's pretty big. Now, I find the Sashimi to be a tad on the chunky side, I will make it a point to have them slice it a bit thinner next time. Our favorite Sushi in the Doral area at this point, the service is always great, and you know it has to be good when over 50% of the patrons are Japanese or Korean. The ONLY "but" I have is that they close between lunch and dinner. Since this is completely acceptable on their part, and done in many places, of course I won't take any stars off. I would just like to be able to stop by for an early dinner when I pick up my daughter from the train station and eat at around 4:45 or 5PM since this is her restaurant of choice.

A hidden gem in the middle of, you wouldn't guess it, Doral! Who knew that authentic and yummy Japanese existed here? One of the first things that made me happy was to see that they had both Kawahagi (fish jerky) and Chikawa (fish cake - a dish that I couldnt find being served in South Florida for a decade!). Both were served great so that gives it a super plus! Then I find out they have some of my other favorite dishes, so I dont have to jump to various restaurants just to get my fix. Hotate Fry - scallops coated in katsu crumbs and fried. YUM! Tanin Don - beef and onion omelet over rice. YUM YUM! Kawahagi - one of 2 places that makes it, and makes it well!! Fried Chikawa - if they could just make it with the cheese, my childhood memories would be completely revived! but otherwise, this is great! Croquettes are pretty good as well; I like the Corn and the Curry Croquette. Pretty interesting and different. Katsu Curry - its just okay here. I would rather go to Yakko San for this; the curry they use as Maido is a bit different and not as good. Salmon Rice Ball in Tea Broth - Not sure why this is so good but its a favorite among my friends. I guess because its really light, but to me it seems very non substantial. Albeit, it does look super light! Go here and you wont be disappointed!

Not sure why there are so many mixed reviews lately. Today was out first time there for lunch and we arrived 20 minutes before closing. They didn't rush us and took time to offer recommendations, very nice service. The food was great, SO fresh. I'm pretty picky about my rainbow roll and it was on the money! Which reminds me, the restaurant is pretty inexpensive for the quality of the food. :)

For a sushi place in the middle of the no where and full of Japanese people, where can you go wrong... The sashimi is really fresh here, i manage to finish the whole plate and im not that big of a sushi eater.. (5/5) Salmon skin hand roll (1/5) I have been spoiled by my friends sushi chef bf...only he can make this hands down the best back in CA. Kaisen Udon: (3/5) can use a little more favor in the broth... pretty bland Tempura ice cream (3.5/5) really good but i dock 1.5 stars because it could use more ice cream ratios. Masago sushi (5/5) i love masago

Best Chicken Katsu and Ramen Egg Noodles I've ever had!!! My BF and I decided to get something different from what we'd already had in and around Miami, so I yelped this spot and when we walked to its location, it was super cute and gave me the ability to "people-watch"... so we were already winning! We ordered some cocktails, and they were tasty, bu the ramen egg noodle was so good! I'd go there again just for that! The service was outstanding. They were attentive, but not bothersome, and definitely gave us genuine recommendations for what we should try. I wanted to go again the next day... but since we were only in Doral/ Miami for a few days, we decided to venture out and explore other spots.

Best value on sushi in Doral--and hands down the most authentic. Service was kind of hovering, but better than the alternative right? Portions were pretty large and ingredients really fresh. Next time I'm gonna stick to the hot dishes listed on the wall and I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

  • Tricia K.

The ramen was good but not like oh wow!! The sushi was good but didn't stand out from all the other sushi restaurants that we've been to. Maybe I need to go back and have the bento box. The place is small but cozy! Service was decent but not exceptional.

I've given this place plenty of opportunities before writing a few lines about my experiences here. It is good for everything, lunch, dinner, social, business, even a romantic date. Their sushi is good, tasty, perfect portion size. Overall: a good deal. Service has always been attentive and informative, if there is something in the menu that calls your attention but can't quite understand what it is ? ask, and then try. Basically, a good, generous, tasty, neighborhood Sushi and Sashimi place, it is definitely high up there as one of the best in Doral.

What a great neighborhood gem! The fam and I were looking for an authentic experience, and I think we found it at Maido's. Some of our favorites from the evening - * Large House Saki - Really big! Biggest I've ever seen. Kampai! * Iced Green Tea - no sugar needed. It's refreshing and your body feels like you're doing something really good for it. * Curry Croquettes - one is not enough! * Kimchi & Pork Raman Noodle Soup - heart warming and comforting! Loved the big Gilligan's Island spoon. I think it's made out of coconut shell. Makes the slurping all the more fun. * Dinner Bento Box - This is a really good value for dinner. Comes with Miso Soup, Salad, Tempura Shrimp and Veggies. Then just two of the following - Sushi, Sashimi, Teriyaki chicken or steak for $17 We are big sweets fanatics, so we had to try the Fried Cheese cake, Fried Ice Cream, and Bean Sunday. Wow! My favorite was the fried ice cream - really crunchy and creamy. The best I've ever had. My daughter had the Bean Sunday with Green Tea Ice-cream, the little dare-devil. This was absolutely delicious. The green tea ice cream was not bitter, which it typically tends to be. The bean topping was sweet and just YUM! The hubby had the fried cheesecake, but he preferred the ice cream dishes. The Staff was really friendly and attentive. Our waitress was really jovial and provided the best service. I look forward to returning and trying more delicious menu items.

The only reason this place was found was because my boyfriend was craving ramen haha. Thank goodness he was! This place is amazing... I've never been to just a "Japanese" restaurant before.. Only Thai/Japanese. The service was great, very friendly people. We tried the Japanese style croquette with corn and Una-Q sushi roll that had eel and cucumber as the appetizer. Ordered the Kimchee Ramen, which was a good size for the price and for one person, and you can add extra bean sprouts for a dollar or extra roasted pork for 3 dollars. Then for dessert of course cheese cake tempura.. It tasted like that deep fried an ice cream sandwich, it was delicious!

In the heart of Central America (Doral), there is a thriving authentic Japanese restaurant. Maido is so legit that the majority of the customers here are Asian. Lending even more credence to it's sushi cred is that the hand written menu on the board is written in JAPANESE. It's quite a large menu, so you'll definitely find something to fit your mood. To say I was shocked to find this place in a strip mall in Doral is an understatement. Came here for lunch during the week and the place was packed. I had a Kirin with bento box lunch special with Sushi and Sashimi which was oh so fresh and sweet. I noticed that there is a pretty good saki selection here so I may have to make the trek over to Doral for dinner and perhaps indulge in an omakase. This place is a great find, and I can't wait to come back again for dinner!

Wow! What a treat! This small, bright and friendly spot is comparable to Hiro-san in NMB. For me, it is a lot closer, open for lunch and extremely reasonable pricing. This is another Yelp find. Just came from the dentist and felt like a little self-rewarding for a great tooth report. However, I am in Phase 1 of the SBD, so what's a girl to do? Sashimi!!!! To my surprise, Yelp tells me there is a hidden jem just feets away from where I'm getting fuel! Whooo Hoo I cannot give a detailed review for all the menu, however there was a nice selection of daily specials on the chalk board. Because it was errand day - I was limited to a Sashimi plate and hot tea. For me Tea, is a big swing vote for me. Their's was good but not outstanding. The Sashimi plate was generous and nicely (simply) plated. Ahhh, but I am one always to give into temptation. So when I saw Grill Triggerfish Jerky on the menu, how could I say no? This is my very favorite dish from Hiro-San. It was delicious and about 3 times the amount I expected. I will definitely come back!

Fantastic How lucky to have a REAL Japanese restaurant close to my hotel. A simple restaurant with good food. I had the sashimi, miso, and salad. The salad was delicious, a combo of cabbage and seaweed. Topped off with an asahi draft beer, dinner was delicious.

As the menu card doesn't have pictures at all, it was really hard for me just figure out what to chose. The portions were smaller and the service nothing special neither. Anyway I don't know too much about japanese food and for learners like me, this is not the right please.

Best authentic Japanese food. Worth the drive from Estero Fl. I love all the side dishes. I used to sneak here from the Pritikin now I don't have to feel guilty. Short of going to L. A. This place is the best. The service is fantastic.

If you're looking for a Japanese restaurant in search of a wide variety of rolls-- this is not the joint for you. Now if you are adventurous and enjoy surprises, I highly recommend this little gem in the heart of Doral. Had a small dinner here the other night and I have to say it was a pleasant experience. The bacon wrapped mushrooms were perfectly savory and juicy. The fried curry croquette was interesting. I was tad confused when I took the first bite. I am still unsure what the filling was made of, but the more I ate of it, the more it grew on me. My three pieces of tuna sashimi were fresh, beautifully deep red and pure buttery goodness. The yellowtail roll was fresh and light, and a bento box with sushi, sashimi, bbq beef and tempura for $15? Sign me up! I look fwd. to my next visit.

A great hole in the wall Japanese place in the middle of Venezuela? Spot on!!! Notice I said "Japanese" and not "Sushi" when referring to Maido. This is not your typical Miami fancy roll and sushi joint. They do have sushi, and it is authentic, straightforward, and delicious. Well, at least I assume it is authentic judging from the number of Japanese patrons I end up sitting with at the counter. The stars of the menu are their actual cooked dishes. Delish! I love trying new dishes each time I visit. Their udon noodle dishes are my favorites so far. When I come here for dinner, the service can be a little slow but the waiters are friendly and very helpful with the menu. I have never had that problem. Their bento boxes never disappoint. The perfect portions and they come out fast and delicious.

My favorite sushi restaurant on the planet; in Doral of all places. I've gone here for 5 years and it's the same people running the show. Japanese people eat here frequently, verifying its authenticity. My favorite is the lunch sushi bento box.

I stumbled upon this restaurant out of pure curiosity. Driving around my neighborhood and had a craving for sushi..and what a great finding it was! I tried the Volcano, Dragon and Butterfly rolls and they were all very good. The prices are very reasonable considering is japanese food. They have a bento box for dinner that's $15 Staff is very courteous, the place is small but inviting. Menu is quite extensive. A true hidden gem in Doral.

This place is AWESOME! I honestly felt that i had teleported to a small restaurant in Japan! This is a small gem located in the most unlikely place, Doral !?! In my opinion, the food is pure comfort food... relatively healthy comfort food. This is the stuff that makes your mouth smile and tummy satisfied. Don't come here thinking this is just your regular common old sushi joint, it's not. They do have sushi but there is SO much more to try and experiment. Beyond friendly staff, really makes you feel welcomed. Can't wait to come back!

OMG My husband and I had such a hard time finding this place! It was in my travel guide book but the address did not show up on our GPS. So we ended up calling them up and asking for a detailed direction. The place is small but neat. It got the right traditional Japanese decor. This place is owned by a Japanese. Everyone who was working there was Japanese except one waiter (but he spoke Japanese). It is great to see both the sushi chef and the kitchen chef are Japanese. They have menus both in English and Japanese and I truly felt like I was in Izakaya (Japanese style bar where they have many kinds of appetizers and drinks). They have a lot of traditional Japanese dish. Since this place is more traditional, they do not have many speciality rolls. They keep the rolls rather simple. Their fish was cut into small pieces (I like chuncks!) so it was kind of dissapointing. My husband loves spicy mayo with his sushi, but the spicy mayo they have here is nothing like the normal spicy mayo...it tasted weird. The fish quality is not bad but I definitely thought they overcharge for their sushi. Now what I loved was their kitchen menu. Like I said before, they have a lot of Japanese bar food in a appetizer portion, so you can try every bit of everything! I ordered Isobe Chikuwa as an appetizer and Shoyu Ramen noodle and they were both good! I wish I did not order sushi so I could have ordered more from the kitchen menu. Hopefully they will expand their sushi menu and lessen the price. It is a great spot for people who love Japanese bar style dining.

Real and authentic Japanese food. It is fresh and delicious with no frills. If you see the local Japanese community eating here it's because it's authentic. Staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. Suchi chefs are also very friendly and appreciate your business. This is our new favorite local restaurant in Doral.

The Japanese writing is on the wall, this place is legit! Tucked away in an unpretentious mall in Doral is Maido, a wonderland filled with raw fish and home cooked yummy treats. This is not for those who like frou-frou fakey sushi, I'm talking uni, dumplings and stuff that almost doesn't look edible. It's a Japanese culinary playground in here. If you're tired of rolls doused in spicy mayo and topped with tempura flakes come here! If not, just keep walking because Maido will be too big for your baby sushi britches!

This place is great. Ever since Yakko San went all fancy with a new location, I've been looking for a Japanese place with more than just sushi, without the glitz. Enter Maido. I had bookmarked this place on Yelp months ago, and it wasn't until last week that I got to try it. It is kind of out of the way in Doral, but it is well worth the trip. The little lady and I sat at the bar and chatted with Hiroshi the whole night. He made great recommendations, like the tonkatsu ramen, the kalbi (short ribs), a nice piece of miso glazed seabass and an interesting take on a sushi club sandwich for the little lady. I will definitely be going back and trying a bunch of different stuff. The specials are constantly changing, and the service is great. A+

Looking for real authentic Japanese food experience? Well.. here it is. Not fancy at all, but the food is excellent!. The rolls are small and the portions allow you to try different things on their menu at a very decent price. The focus more on Japanese food than just Sushi so don't be looking for those fancy named rolls from the other sushi bars. You won't be disappointed!

If I could I would give this place 10 stars. My favorite restaurant!!! Every time my husband and I go we order something different, and every time we are own away. This place is a diamond in Doral. We come here almost every week. The service is amazing they are so nice. Also you know a restaurant is truly Japanese and good at making Japanese food when all you see sitting down at the tables are Japanese people. I want to try out everything on that menu. I love this place! Love it!!!!!

Maido is the best sushi spot on the east coast! If you are into straight up Sashimi and traditional japanese dishes, then this is the place for you! Hamachi simply melts in your mouth! Worth the drive! Jimmy's MUST tries: -Yakuniku: Cooked meat mixed with scallions and maido special sauce -Tonkutso-Ramen: noodle bowl with pork brath and bamboo shoots -Hamachi-Don: hamachi on a bed of rice

On Friday afternoon, my colleague and I decided to go out for lunch and decided on Maido Japanese Restaurant given that our original visit of several months ago was great. I noticed that this time around they had a sticker on the door stating that they were voted Best of Miami 2011, which was a nice surprise. It was a packed house (lunch hour) but luckily my friend and I found a table for two. We each had the bento box lunch which includes: Miso soup, California roll, ginger salad, shrimp tempura and your choice of another side: I choose the teriyaki chicken. The food was good and reasonably priced; the bento box was $9.50 from the lunch menu. Service: the service was awful. Granted it was extremely busy, however, the waitress was inattentive, rarely checked on us and we constantly needed to remind her to bring us things. Our drinks (water and tea) took a significant amount of time and you basically had to hold your breath for refills. I was surprised given that our original visit was a positive experience. I will likely return and give them a second chance since it could have been an off day for the waitress. For now though they only get 2 stars.

Great little local Japanese restaurant, owner operated with really fresh sushi. I ordered the dinner bento box, it comes with miso soup salad, I chose sushi and sashimi but you can have chicken teriaki or BBQ beef if you prefer, it also comes with tempura shrimp which are really great, and a California roll. All of that for $17.00!! Great deal. Light and fresh tempura here is the best and the sushi is right on par with some of my favorite places. I highly recommend Maido for a great, authentic meal.

Every time I go to Miami, I have to eat there! I love the sushi and roman! I can't find any Japanese restaurant can compete with this one! I am not sure if it is because Maido's owner is a Japanese...I really enjoy the Japanese style sushi (no cream cheese or avocado.)

  • J M.

Dinner Bento Box is the same price ($15) as a cocktail on South Beach. Welcome to eating sushi in Doral! This includes soup, salad, shrimp tempura, vegetable tempura, california roll, and your choice of two from sushi, sashimi, chicken teriyaki or BBQ beef. Enough said.

Upon hearing that this is the best Japanese restaurant in Miami (according to the Miami New Times Best of the Year list), I had to try it out. I absolutely love sushi and other Japanese dishes, so I ran on over to Maido on Saturday night. I sampled the Sushi and Sashimi plate for one and was very happy with my choice. It had the usual meats and sushi roll and in addition had a piece of sushi with roe on the top which was very good. Also, my friend had some Ume (Japanese plum wine), which was great! Together, we had the tempura cheescake dessert which was also amazing. All in all, the service was excellent and the staff very friendly. I will definitely come visit this place once again very soon.

I have been to Maido 3 times now and have tried something different each time. I have been nothing but impressed by the food. Don't let the fact the decor is modest or that it's located in a strip mall cloud your selection. This sushi is some of the best I had anywhere! The service has varied from (at worst) good to excellent. I highly recommend the kimchi miso soup, it's amazing! The grilled pork spare ribs are excellent also. Honestly there isn't anything I've had there that wasn't amazing.

Overshot my destination (Fedex to pick up slide decks that I'd prepared on the airplane from SFO to FLL). Noticed on Google maps that there is a Japanese restaurant. Went to Yelp and found two five-star reviews of the place with specific recommendations for dishes. Here's what I had: Gyoza: lite and tasty Yukke: raw beef and onions mixed with a "secret" spicy sauce, which is really good Squid Shoyu (butter soy): The menu lists Scallops Shoyu, but the chef took pity on me and made it for me with squid instead. You know that grilled taste with butter. Wow! Salmon grilled with touch of salt: Good but not amazing. Sweet potato tempura: Likewise I had a bottle of cold sake (on a hot and stormy night) but the chef came out and gave me a glass of Otokayama sake at the end, which was much better! This place made me think of Japanese tapas, which is probably normal in Japan (but I haven't lived there for 10 years, just visited 10+ times). And it was real treat to find it in this odd location (near the Doral Golf Resort and Spa where I was headed for a conference event).

Great joint. Very personal service. Lots of Asians customers. That's a good sign for a sushi place. The triggerfish jerlky was great. I gotta find me some of that in the Asian grocery.

Before coming here I though only Matsuri cooked real Japanese food in Miami, well I was wrong this strip mall restaurant is super authentic, packed daily with Asian people and carrying food that you mostly wont find at your regular Thai Sushi place like Pork Katsu Curry...yes Japanese eat curry and it rocks!! Give it a try if you want to experience something really good, the sushi rice is amazing so if you only go for sushi you wont be dissapointed.

Really really tonkatsu ramen! Neat little place. Uncomfortable seats. To be honest, sushi is not so great.... Service is okay.

This place is amazing. Trust me. You are getting high quality food for a cheap price. The fish is fresh and it's unique in it's own way. For example, its spicy tuna is nothing you had before. Unlike your typical spicy mayo, it has its own spicy sauce they use is a lot bolder. Finally, we had their tempura ice cream. It's not your typical ice cream tempura. This is an tempura ice cream sandwich, which gives it an extra kick. This sushi restaurant is honestly the best.

Four and a half stars, really? Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. So I will go back and give it another try. Sushi was just average. Nothing special.

This is the best place to eat in all of Doral! I have tried so many things on the menu and loved all of them! The sushi is extremely fresh and delicious. The staff is friendly and wonderful.

I had to spent a night close to Miami Int'l Airport to get a flight early next morning. I looked for a place to eat and found Maido with great reviews on Yelp. Decided to give a try. I am glad I did it! This small restaurant has a very friendly staff, fast service, tasty food and very fair price. No doubt to recommend it!

My hubby and I ventured out to Doral to try Maido. What a disappointment! Maido was an insult to all of my senses to say the least! The first sign should have been the stench that we smelled as we walked in. Would it kill the owner to buy a couple of incense sticks or glade plugs ins! Against my better judgment, we sat down and decided to give them a try. My husband ordered the salmon tartar, which was basically 3 teeny tiny pieces of salmon drowned in horse radish based sauce... disgusting. We also ordered the dragon and spicy tuna roll. These rolls have to have been the worst rolls I have ever seen. Horribly wrapped. My dragon roll was topped yellow & brown, mushy avocado. Isn't fresh avocado suppose to be green? My taste buds were sooooo insulted. Even the edamame that we ordered was hard and tasteless. I have had better edamame from the frozen section at Sam's Club, YUCK As we were walking out my waitress asked if I would like to take the Dragon roll to go. It took everything inside of me to not tell her that what I really wanted was the last hour of my life back as well as the 50.00 that this meal cost, but we politely paid the bill and left. GROSS GROSS GROSS!!!!!

Overall, Maido is a great Japanese restaurant in the Miami area. First of all, they serve very tasty and authentic Japanese food (there is no where else, not even in CA, have I tried things like fried rice cake until I went to Maido). Also, when you walk into a restaurant and see menus in Japanese posted on the wall, you know you are at the right place! The overall service is great as well, with very attentive waiters and comfortable atmosphere. The only negative that's preventing me from giving it five stars is the price/portion ratio. Although they price their items similarly to other Asian restaurants in Miami, the portion they serve is small. For instance, I can probably eat two of their bento boxes before getting full. Having said that, I will still go back just because they serve some rare Japanese food that I cannot even find in CA.

This is the great little place in Doral that I was referring to in a previous review of another Miami sushi restaurant. This is really a no-frills authentic Japanese eatery where the food is great and affordable. I've always had good experiences here so I can't relate to one of the reviews re: cold service. I'm a regular and will continue to bring new people. Yumm!

I really have no idea where this place came from! A legit Japanese Restaurant in Doral? I mean even the menus on the wall are in Japanese. The decor is no frills, but the food kicks butt! Service is okay, but fast. We have been there when its jammed packed with people. And on a day when the place is empty. Had a bento box which came packed with various goodies! The rolls are flavorful and fresh. Overall, my fave Japanese place in MIA.

Hidden gem in DORAL. Who'd have known a true authentic Japanese restaurant would reside (and thrive) in DORAL?! Food is great. Ambience is great. Service is great. I invited some a homesick couple here on business from Japan who barely spike English and they felt right at home. That was the official testimonial that Maido truly was an authentic Japanese restaurant. I highly recommend it. It's off the beaten [restaurant] path and well worth the trek.

This place is spectacular. Very difficult to find (only discovered when tried to go to Korean place next door (which had closed) but worth the drive. (disclaimer: lived in Japan for 10 years and I'm VERY picky about Japanese food.) I've never tried the sushi here, as there is just so much else on the menu. (usually have sushi at Matsuri and come here for anything else.) Roundeyes make up only about 10% of the clientele, so you know it has to be authentic / good! Yukke is exquisite. love the Gyu-tan (cow tongue.) grilled fish dishes are supurb. this place is not to be missed.

Their cooked japanese food is outstanding. We usually order the Katsu Curry and Katsu Don which are full of flavor and a great hearty winter meal. The Gyozas are perfectly crafted little pouches of goodness and their Ramen are the real deal. If you are looking for some home cooked savory Japanese food you came to the right place.

I would never notice this restaurant if I wasn't need to stop by the Gas Station inside the plaza. Maido got these unique dish which I can find only in Japan or Los Angeles. Best Recommend dish "Croquette" or "Pig Bone Raman"
