This place is a clusterf#$k. Between the construction on Nova Drive blocking one entrance to the strip mall, to the tiny parking lot, to the long winding line in the narrow ordering area this place is utter chaos. If you have anxiety disorder, claustrophobia, or road rage definitely do not come here. However, if you are able to get over the clusterf#$kiness of this place, the subs here are actually very good. My favorite is the "Rachel" which is a hot pastrami sandwich with saurkraut, cheese, and thousand island. I throw in some banana peppers and hot chilis for an extra kick and man is it GOOD. The goodness of a lunch place can be gagued by the amount of cops and fireman having lunch there and this place might as well be a station with the amount of these dudes here at all times. There are almost too many choices here as the menu is huge. If you don't know what to order it is a high stress situation since you have to scan the 3 LCDs overhead while trying not to hold up the line or knock down any of the tons of crap that are hanging on the walls and shelves. Overall it's probably one of the better sandwiches in the area, but I just can't deal with the cluster on a regular basis.

The cuban coffee was great, and wasn't as sweet as I am used to which is how I prefer, and is I would say the best in Davie. I got the Cuban steak sandwich (because I looove me some pan con bistec anytime!) and i was actually a little disappointed. I'm guessing it was because we came in right when they were switching out for the lunch rush but it wasn't piled as high as I hoped. Either way, the flavor was great and my boyfriend got the Rachel sandwich, which was a lot more impressive than the pan con bistec. Either way, if you're craving a steak sandwich for cheap, definitely check this place out. I also liked how there was ample seating both indoors and outdoors, which was a pleasant surprise for the location.

My boyfriend, Christian and I consider ourselves regulars. We love it here!!! Ingredients are always fresh and the cooks are friendly. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, it's all amazing!

This was one of my favorite places to eat while attending optometry school at Nova. My favorite was the grilled chicken with onions, mushrooms, green peppers with the hot cherry peppers, melted white american cheese all topped with potato sticks. SO GOOD. I also enjoyed the cafe con leche for those late nights studying. Warning! Don't watch them make it, the amount of sugar that goes in is redic! They also offered a student discount at the time with your Nova ID which was great while pinching pennies as a student.

Awesome subs. Get the steak and eggs, you won't regret it. Best part is they cook the food in front of you on a grill, they have a sweet fish tank, and the patio is relaxing to eat in. Cuban coffee is on point too.

After my 3rd time of having horrible service, attitude from the staff members and forgotten food. I'm over it. Place just generally is horrible. Manager has anger issues and frankly the establishment is below mediocre at best. Will never return.

The most fun I have had waiting for a sandwich ever! 4.5 Stars. I thought I had hit every sandwich place in the area, but today, I stumbled upon this little hidden treasure. I was craving a cheese steak free from gristle and I saw this place pop up on Yelp. To my surprise, they are across the street from El Agave Azul and Cinque Terre; had no idea! They have two entrances, and I wasn't sure which one to go into, but I started with the one on the left. Right away I knew I was in the sandwich area. I stood there for a minute and no one came to help me, so I walked around to the other side. I noticed a dining room and the other entrance. The lady there showed me back over and I was immediately helped by the one I will refer to as "The Sandwich Master!" I told The Sandwich Master I wanted a plain Philly cheese steak with extra provolone, and he went to work. He placed the meat on the grill and with his metal spatulas worked the meat. It was a real treat to watch him work up close like that. He caught me taking a picture, and he went into full Benihana performance mode! LOL I only regret that the light wasn't better for my camera because I could have captured some great memories for my quick trip out for lunch. After grilling the meat, The Sandwich Master placed the cheese on the meat and used that wonderful steam technique to melt the cheese. That is one of my simple joys in life. (I know I need to get out more...working on it). He then placed the meat and cheese on the bread and posed it for me to take the next picture. He was so proud...so was I. I felt like we were both admiring maybe the best sandwich ever made. I had to take the sandwich with me, but I will say it was delicious. Bread was soft and very fresh. Meat was succulent and seasoned well and free from gristle. I don't know if it is the best I have ever had, but it was really better than any cheese steak I have had in the area. I may get mushrooms on it next time, as I noticed after placing the order that they have fresh mushrooms rather than the canned. YAY. I can't give this place 5 stars unfortunately, although I have high hopes I will be able to do that after more visits. Someone should have greeted me without me having to track someone down for help.

This is a nice little place at the end of a plaza. The service is really nice and the sandwiches are great! I always get the Rachel (reuben) sandwich. Its super delicious! They also have fresh fruit juice (which are quite pricey) and cuban coffee, yum!

Great breakfast! We were in the area and looking for breakfast with a bit of a cuban twist on it (AKA: Cheese Bread and Cafe Con Leche). And Sub Cafe delivered. The cuban bread was the real deal and they know how to make it right with cheese. The guys behind the grill will pretty much make you anything you want if they have the ingredients. They like a challenge! And the best part, they're nice and glad to have your business and know how to cook good food. This would have been a 5-star visit if not for 2 things: (1) the juice / coffee bar was severely understaffed and we never did get our juices, and (2) the check was dropped on us, we paid, and then an older lady (an owner I assumed) told us we owed $6 more due to an inaccuracy on the bill. I thought that was pretty low-brow taste to do to a customer after they've already paid.

I'm shocked that I've been to sub cafe as many times as I have and have never reviewed it. All aboard. Some of my friends introduced me to this place because it's less than a mile from school and my place and apparently they make great Cuban coffee/"Cafe con leche". Roughly translated, it means coffee with milk, which is exactly what a caffe latte is in Italian. The main difference I later learned is that we Italians use espresso and the Cubans use-you guessed it-Cuban coffee. Typically I'm a black coffee girl but I decided to take their recommendation and have the house specialty. I wasn't disappointed. There's a reason this stuff sells like hotcakes. It's piping hot which for me is too hot at first but is a lovely blend of caffeine, aroma, and milk. It's a pleasure to drink and gives you a wonderful kick if you're dragging in the morning. They make it in about 2 minutes and there is no line like there is at every chain store that may or may not have started in Portland. The best part about this place is their BANGIN breakfast sandwiches. They're not your $1.99 egg and cheese from D&D but wow are they good. Fresh bagels, fried eggs or over easy-however you want them made right in front of you chipotle style. So delicious and so many choices. Then you can sit outside or inside and enjoy your morning (or whatever time of day) for as long as you choose to linger. Love it.

Cute little Cuban place. In town visiting my best friend and decided to try out this spot. Got the Cuban steak sub with cafe con leche. Mmmm pretty good for a breakfast/lunch place. There's an outside area with tables and chairs so you're not limited to eating inside. There's also a separate counter where they make smoothies and juices! Didn't get a chance to try it but def for next time if when I'm around.

Been coming here for years. Best sandwiches you can find. Great fresh ingredients , light years ahead of the other popular sandwiche places. Great coffee and atmosphere. Please try this place, you will love it

Okay got 4 Cubans today and they were sad, sad just sad! Hardly any meat on them and these cost almost $40.00! I'm very disappointed!

The food was good, but everything was crazy disorganized. There are multiple people putting the sandwiches together, and every time your order gets moved to the next person, you need to restate what it is. It just doesn't seem efficient. I also waited almost 20 minutes for a smoothie. The smoothie I ordered had four ingredients, and the girl making the smoothies kept referring back to the menu. She also kept putting my smoothie aside when someone came up to the window to place an order. So she put together the ingredients then left them on the counter for over 10 minutes while she helped other customers. It was a hot day, and all the ice just about melted by the time she blended the smoothie together. I'm thinking that maybe she was new because she also seemed to have no idea where the ingredients were. She looked through every single cabinet she had for the coconut water. I likely wouldn't return.

This place is awesome, one of my favorites in the area. The Cuban steak, cheese steak and churrasco sandwiches are great. Sure, anyone makes a philly cheesesteak, but the little things, the details are what set them apart. They make the food on the grill right in front of you, just the way you want it. My favorites are the Cuban steak and the Philly cheese steak (with pepper jack cheese, bbq sauce, fried onions and peppers...awesome). The coffee and pastelitos are good too.

Great subs and great service. Can't believe I've driven by here so many times and now is when I decide to stop in. Don't know why it took me so long.

Always a perfect stop in route to class when needing a colada. Outdoor seating is plentiful and the covered patio is nice to flip through notes and munch on a Cuban sandwich when you have the time. The walk up window is the spot to be at early morning or mid afternoon. Being cash and expect to practice your Spanish: the staff and other patrons are happy to help you get the nuances of ordering at walk up windows in Spanish.

  • Benjamin G.

This place has an excellent Philly Cheese Steak, the best Ive had. Something tells me they know a little more about philly than they let on since they serve Birch Beer. The Cuban Steak is also amazing as well the ultimate BLT. You cant leave without a Cortadito or Cafe con Leche, and if youre just there for coffee have a guava and cheese pastry as well. A great little shaded patio and the walk-up coffee window make this place so unique and comfortable. Love it!

Love this little sub shop! It's a hidden gem with great service and delicious tasting subs made to order. Very clean! I would definitely recommend a visit, the guys behind the hot grill are very helpful at recommending one of their delicious creations. Must visit!

Sandwiches are good. Had a turkey breast sandwich. They make delicious And strong coladas which is what I like coming here for and just to show support for a non chain sub shop.

Looooove the Cafe con leche...is the best in Davie for sure...service is super friendly and fast... Subs are nothing out of the ordinary but they are good enough... Different options and sizes available...I'm definitely coming back!!!

  • Rashad H.

This place is a hidden gem in the area. Very good sandwiches. High quality ingredients and they make every sandwich from scratch. They have a grille and cook the food right in front of you. The Philly Cheese steak is high quality as well the my favorite the Churrasco sandwich! It's awesome! The coffee stand there is on point! Very good Cuban coffee. The decor of the place will take you off guard. It doesn't look like much from the sign out frot but they have a nice outdoor seating area and when you go inside there are flat screen TV's and a little toy train track outlining the restaurant. It's very quaint. Overall solid eating...BAM!!

    (4)
  • Grant W.

Their Cuban coffee empowers you to do anything you want. Anything. Also, Ordering here beats waiting in like for 30 min at Dunkin for more expensive coffee that's less amazing.

    (5)
  • Diane H.

Cafe con Leche! Only thing I've been here for but I stil need to try out the subs! I love the fact that there's this cute little order window right outside the restaurant so you don't have to deal with being seated or talking to anyone beside the barista to get your coffee. Anyway, what's also good about this window is that you get to see your coffee being made right there! Very fresh and I just love watching the process of making Cuban coffee. It definitely adds to how enjoyable the coffee is :) The lack of one star is because I got a cafe con Leche one time and it was on point. PERFECT. I came back for the same size and this time they put wayyyy too much Milk = less coffee flavor :( Also they sell cookies and pastelitos here! I got a guava and cheese one and they gave me a room temperature (even though she got this from what looked like a heated display case) and it was only guava...so yea...lol

Best and only Cuban coffee in Davie! I stop here regularly for breakfast, eggs over medium, a couple strips of bacon, wheat toast w/ butter, and the delicious house potatoes. Nothing fancy, and literally a hole in the wall, but everything is delicious. The service is friendly and inviting, and it feels like you're having breakfast at a friend's house. If you're into natural smoothies, with real fruits and veggies, you'll love the smoothie bar.

Every single time I visit Miami/ Ft. Lauderdale I come here at least once. The food is great, and the colada is even better. I've had multiple things on the menu, and I can basically say they are all incredible. I always come with friends, and we split the different sandwiches to try more things each time. Come out and visit this place, and don't forget to try the colada!

Really savory Cuban steak sub with soft bread and good toppings and great sauces including green chimichurri, who knew? (I'm used to argentine red chimichurri). The Cuban coffee is delish!!! I liked the cafe con leche, and be prepared: it is sweet (which I was way into).

With so many options for sandwiches I feel that this place is good but not amazing. I will probably try it again but I can't say that I would go to this place over others in the area.

You can't tell from the name or the location (Davie y'all, yeehaw!!) but Sub Cafe has a pretty fabulous pan con bistec. I came in because of a small sign on the side of the road (I'm a sucker for signage). The menu has all the traditional sub fixins' plus Cuban staples. The pan con bistec was delicious - not too big (maybe like a 9-inch), with lettuce and tomato (I had them hold the papitas and the mayo - sidenote: mayo does not belong on a pan con bistec... yuckies). The sandwich was yummylicious, and the owner was very friendly. He asked me my name, and when some other customers walked in, he addressed them by name as well. I'm glad to know there's a good pan con bistec in my town =]

Get the Rachel sandwich!! I got the Cuban steak sandwich after reading a bunch of yelp reviews, but my girlfriend got the Rachel sandwich and it was so good. And get the potato sticks in your sandwich! Still have to try the Cuban coffee.

I've been back twice since my first visit and both times the service has been super friendly. And the food is still delicious. Last time I was there, the woman working at the coffee bar came out to see if we wanted drinks too and brought us our coffees, water, sugar, etc. and was very attentive. The coffee is so good too!

This Cuban sandwich shop is great. It's just not great, it's amazing! I've had several different types of sandwiches here, but I've come to love the Cuban Steak Sandwich. If you come here for anything, order that! It's the bees knees! I can't express myself enough how tasty it is, from the right about of seasonings for their steak, the juiciness all the way to the texture, simply outstanding. They can be busy for lunch, but the line moves pretty quickly. They offer cubano coffee and some breakfast items. I heard about this place from my buddy who was going to Fire Academy at the time. I added this place into "My Top Ten" list of restaurants, as go-to places when you just don't know what to eat. It's located in a little shopping center on Nova drive near University by 595. Check this place out, you won't regret it!

This is one of my favorites for lunch. It's a great place for a Cuban sandwich, a sub or a Cuban coffee. I see them serving breakfast almost any time of day. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. They cook your order right in front of you. Everything is made fresh so it is possible wait a little while if there's a line.

Interaction with owner/employee/whatever today: "Can I get have some tomato on that?" "No... That wouldnt make it a cuban sandwich." He was serious. While the guy has a little bit of a point, the execution was flawed... if not rude. The people at this location have generally been courteous, so this flaw doesnt hit too hard. The sandwiches arent anything to really write home about. Generally decent but sans flair. Some mediocre sandwiches, and pretty good coladas and cortaditos. My cuban came out to about 8 bucks with a small fountain drink and chips. (note: Nova students get a discount) One pro is the nice atmosphere outside on great weather days. Fountains, a big parasol, and plants on the patio lend to a fantastic ambiance, but you wont find me there when it's rainy. Push come to shove, this is not my preferred place to get a sammich. But it'll do in a pinch.

Very tasty sub sandwiches. I had a roast beef and turkey and it was excellent. Cuban coffee is great here too. Delicious and so close to Nova University.

I looove their cuban steak sandwich, it's so good that I keep wanting to try something else but I always end up ordering it. I recently tried their grilled chicken salad and its a good alternative if u are watching calories... The owner is always very nice, and the brownies they have are delicious!

The best Cuban toast and coffee! My girlfriend and I come once a week and eat breakfast. Usually one of the delicious omelettes. If you live in the Davie area it's a great place with friendly staff. Spanish or English it doesn't matter what you speak. You'll love this little place. They also have more than just breakfast. Subs and Philly cheese steaks too!

  • Sylvester N.

Pretty good subs. I definitely recommend the cuban steak sandwich. The portions are on the smaller side compared to other sub places around town. Service is friendly sometimes and not so friendly other times.

  • James D.

The best steak and cheese sub south of Philly! I had the #3, 8" steak and cheese with mushrooms, sweet peppers instead of green peppers, extra onions and cheese on a toasted roll! BANG, POW! It was so good my tounge slapped me in the back of my head. Great ma and pa restaurant! The tuna sub is also terrific.

I used to really like this place, my fiance would always insist that we get sandwiches here. We like to frequent small businesses instead of big chains. You can tell that the owners really care about the place and put their money back into their business - they have a really cute "garden" outside the small restaurant where patrons can eat, with beautiful flowers everywhere and misters on during the hot summer days. The owner usually checks on you to make sure you are enjoying your meal. The service is usually polite, although at times you can tell that when the place gets packed (which is the case most of the time) that they are visibly stressed, sometimes a bit snappy at times. Part of the problem is that this restaurant is too small for the volume of business that they get. The counter IS the kitchen. So while they are frantically running around trying to take your order, they are also trying to cook at the same time. It's apparent that sometimes, 'the right hand is not talking to the left'. They have a chaotic system in place, with one guy taking your order, one guy cooking, and another guy who has no idea what is going on helping you at the register. This has lead to some mistakes while ordering, they really need a more organized system and to move to a larger venue to handle the large volume of business that they get. Other than that, the sandwiches are pretty good, nothing to write home about. Their Hot Zesty Italian was probably my favorite, and my fiance liked the Philly Cheesesteaks. I always had a great experience here until recently. I placed an order for 2 sandwiches and a "Bomb Burger". The guy must not have heard me place the order for the Bomb Burger, no big deal. Until I mentioned it politely and he snapped back, "I didn't HEAR you say that" with a major attitude. Given the fact that I had been pleasant with him the whole time, I was really shocked. My fiance, who always loved this place, was appalled, and told me, "let's not come back here ever again". So we tried to place the order again. "What did you order?" "A Bomb Burger, please." "A hamburger?" "A BOMB burger". "A hamburger??" "A BOMB Burger (pointing at the menu)". I speak perfect English, so I don't understand what the problem was. He still didn't understand me. I just gave up correcting him in frustration. He made my fiance a hamburger, even though we were charged extra for the Bomb Burger. It wasn't worth arguing over. To make matters worse, the guy at the register gave us 2 of our drinks but forgot to give us the water and colada we ordered. The mistakes were forgivable, but being rude to your customers is not. I really don't think I will come back here again.

I will give this place a five stars because the attention was great, the service was quick and the food was awesome!! I do believe the portions are a little small compare to other places around the same area, but overall I think it is a great place for lunch!!! I would surely recommend their chocolate brownies, you can't go to Sub Cafe without having "The Brownies"!!!!!

I drive by this little place probably 100 times without ever noticing it. I read some reviews on here an decided I had to try it. First, the place is tiny. Looks like any other family owned shop. But... The food is amazing. Fresh cooked food to order. Fresh squeezed juices. Amazing Cuban coffee. I ordered a Cuban steak sandwich. It was delicious. My husband and son got egg sandwiches with cheese and ham. Yum. The owner came over and made sure our order was great and welcomed us back. I've been there three times since my first visit two weeks ago. I'm hooked.

THE ABDOLUTE BEST PAN CON BISTEC (Cuban steak sandwhich) YOU WILL FIND IN BROWARD COUNTY!!!!!! I get it with light mayo, onions, potato sticks and the Swiss cheese.. OMG!!! Heaven in your mouth!!!!! The Cuban Coffee has won over my office (and trust me that's not an easy thing to do. This was our last hope of finding good Cuban Coffee in the area). MUST MUST MUST TRY THIS PLACE!!!

Amazing food and service. It's a small shop that serves subs, cuban sandwiches, and breakfast. I had a ham, egg and cheese sandwich in a Cuban bread and it was delicious. It was hot and fresh. There cafe con leche was really good as well. Wasn't too sweet at all. Definitely would come back.
