Carl's Jr... did you change your hair? Lose weight? Something about you seems different. Hmmmm.... Ok, so we popped in to Car--- er, I mean Hardee's on our drive from CA to FL. Holy cow.... are those beer battered onion rings on the menu??? I don't remember those at Carl's Jr. We ordered our food, used the facilities and headed out. The store was clean, the food was yummy. I got the chicken stripes and... wait for it.... the beer battered onion rings. When I opened up my chicken, I thought it looked a little overcooked (color), but one bite put my fears to rest. The chicken was juicy, the sauces that came with it were yummy.... and of coarse the beer battered onion rings were perfect. ((Ok, I know I'm making a big deal out of these onion rings... it's because in CA, the only kind of onion ring you could find at a fast food place was those pathetic bread crumb coated things. I searched for years, battered (nix beer) was the closest thing I could ever find, and you should have seen the looks I would get when I would ask employees what their onion rings were coated in. Brain explosions. Don't believe me? Go to CA and ask. Watch the smoke pour out of people's ears.)) So, I was happy with our pit stop lunch. Keep up the good work (and don't ever take those onion rings off the menu or I shall revoke all stars and ask Yelp if there is some way to give negative stars. LOL Just kidding... only I'm totally not kidding. Leave those onion rings alone.) =)

I think it's about time for another review of this Hardee's. I can't believe they have been rated as low as they have. It's been years since I've eaten at a Hardee's. The outstanding question in my mind for quite a while has been how this business (meaning Hardee's as a brand overall) has managed to stay afloat for all these years. I think I know the answer to that now. What they've done is downsized and maintained a limited menu, apparently focusing on the things that they do best. After recently talking to some folks who told me how good they thought the food there was, I decided to try it again for myself. Their burgers on their fresh baked buns and their milkshakes and malts are nothing short of amazing. That fresh baked bun was the best thing I'd tasted in a while. And the vanilla malt that I had tasted like it was made with homemade ice cream. You owe it to yourself to try it.

11FEB14 We stopped for gas and a quick bite while traveling from NOLA to Jacksonville. I like Hardee's ham and cheese sandwich and my wife said she could eat their chicken tenders.....so.... We arrived at 12:10 CST and ordered a ham 'n cheese, five piece chicken tenders (that way I'm assured of at least one left over). At 12:35 the people who had arrived after us were being served and beginning to make eye contact as if to say "what the hell?" At 12:40 I asked for a refund. The manager (same person who'd taken our order 30 minutes earlier) had to come give me the refund. The manager asked the young lady working the front "why?". I was standing right there. The young lady told her that we'd been waiting 30 minutes (hard to deny since the time was stamped on the receipt) and she couldn't help it. She was doing the best she could do... The manager didn't say a word to me as she handed me the refund.... No "I'm sorry"....nothing.....NOTHING! We went across the street to the cleanest Wendy's. We were greeted by Shakera and had food in hand within minutes. I had an epiphany at that moment. The reason Hardee's does that little order number on the table and bringing the food to you is so you won't realize how long it takes them. It buys them a few extra minutes that buffers their total inefficiency. Go to Wendy's across the street....better food, too.

Service was quick; the place was clean, but the turkey burger was awful; inedible, fit only for the trash can. The bun tasted like what I can only imagine cardboard would taste like and the turkey patty was the consistency of rubber. Hubby's cheeseburger passed, just barely. Don't bother with the stuck-together glob of grease and flour they call Texas Toothpicks. Keep on going... There's gotta be a decent burger for travelers around there somewhere!

I haven't been to a Hardee's in years, since there are none in San Antonio (their sister Carl's Junior is there instead). Needing to break away from the family reunion here in Florida for a few, I decided to check the place out. I give one star for the food and one star for the nostalgia factor. After that, they fail. No small lids for their drinks. Customers complaining that the children they are buying drinks for have no lids. The girl behind the counter couldn't care less. Medium drink lids were "temporarily" out as well. The floor was greasy and slick with who knows what. Add to the fact that half of the tables were stacked with dirty trays and refuse. I won't be going back.

I just had to drop a line about this Hardees that we dropped by late at night on our road trip. As you may know, the folks at Hardees take your order at the front but bring the food out too your table. Well, when the lady who took our order came to our table with the burger, she realized that I was splitting it with my girlfriend -- and she asked if we would like to have it cut in half! We agreed and she went back to the kitchen and sliced it for us! Talk about service in a fast food joint!!
