The waitstaff seems to be on some form of uppers, but as I usually get takeout it doesn't bother me as much as it does other reviewers. The food is fresh and flavorful an best of all, cheap. Great place for a last minute weeknight meal.

I'd like to give it 1.5 stars but it won't let me. Ok this has to be the weirdest burrito place I've been to thus far. I walked in and was greeted by a waitress asking what I'd like to drink while I'm standing there, I kindly tell her its my first time and ask how does this work, she hands me a huge menu and I give her my drink order while I look over the menu standing up in what is supposed to be an ordering line(lunch time nobody in front of me though at this time), about a minute later she comes back with my drink with no lid and I'm there with a menu in one hand and an open drink in the other as I stand in line...odd. I go to the next cashier, give my order steak burrito she asks if I want the large? ok(I don't see any of this on the menu but whatever I'm hungry). sure. comes with chips but no salsa but seeing its my first time they give me salsa(I guess if you have been there more than once no salsa for you haha). Nearly $13 for a steak burrito, chips no salsa and a soda...overpriced it you ask me but whatever the waitress said it was full service once you order so I guess thats the premium you pay. Sit down at a booth, most uncomfortable booth seats ever, like they had no cushioning in parts so they were lumpy as hell...wtf? Whatever I'm gonna try and enjoy myself so I read over the little table literature about the story of tijuana flats & its owner while I wait for my food, I hear my name and have to wave over a different waitress...again odd, maybe a number card system would work better, I dunno but just odd. Food was ok, burrito was ok, chips were pretty good, salsa was crap, no flavor, tasted like canned stewed tomato's for the most part to be honest. They have a hot sauce bar with like 20 flavors, I went for the mild and was like duck sauce from a chinese restaurant with a little(and I mean little kick). I was there for about 10 mins after getting my food, wasn't once checked in on, so full service it is not. Definitely not worth the $13, why would you tip if its not truely full service? I always try to scope out places like this before bringing my wife & 3 kids, we won't be going there anytime soon, its a shame as its so close I wanted to have a nice lunch joint.

My husband and I love coming here especially on Free Beer WED nights. We love the food, service. The girls that work there! Most of the time that atmosphere. Our last visit ( not the Flats fault) there was an extremely large group there it was very loud in there and not a lot of room for the regulars. But we held out and were finally able to enjoy our food and beer. Our son loves the burritos. This is a great spot. Love the the Hot Sauce Bar.

The food is always hot and fresh at this location. They greet your as you enter. Their salsa is a hot and miss. Beer could be colder; however, they have free beer Wednesday. ..... Who can complain about that? ???

This is a nice quick service place to eat. I just moved to town, and my boyfriend made me take a whole day off from eating here recently! LOL! I've read the other reviews, and my best guess is consistency of portions has improved as I know exactly what I'm getting, right down to 3-4 jalapeños on my taco. I'm definitely a regular here. The sangria is also very good! Restaurant and restroom is clean, staff is super friendly and attentive. The booths do need to be replaced as all the "spring" is out of the seats. The door to the ladies restroom is sprung WAY too tight, so be careful when using the door, it smashed my wrist and left a nasty bruise. :-( I do hope they allow online ordering soon... They are one of the few locations that don't do this. And it would be nice if they could remove some of the stop signs in their parking lot - I refer to it as "the land of 10,000 stop signs."

I questioned whether to give them 1 or 2 stars. I also questioned whether or not I got food poisoning. I guess it's authentic Mexican when you have the non stop runs after eating it -- Jjst doesn't taste as good. Won't be back ...EVER

Very disappointed. I feel like I just paid for jumped-up Taco Bell with out the flavor. I should have known better. On the bright side, the curry sauce was tasty.

I may be a bit biased seeing as I recently moved here from Arizona which is home to some of the best Mexican food outside of Mexico, but I have to admit I was a bit disappointed with Tijuana Flats. I've had better Mexican at Chipotle. It's very Americanized Mexican like what you would expect from a Taco Bell. I give it 3 stars for its friendly, fast service, and the chips and cheese dip, but I won't be returning any time soon.

Very friendly service but the quality of the food has def gone down by 70 % or more. This place is very inconsistent sometimes the tacos are full sometimes they are empty. Check out Taco Tuesday. Any other day is not worth going to.

Saw the good reviews from others so thought we would give it a try. Wife's fish tacos were ok, but my banging chicken burrito was dry and lacked flavor. Too high priced for what u get. Even charged extra for chips.....salsa was fresh but bland. Looks like they are shooting for a Moes knockoff but fall way short. Not a good first impression from food taste. Staff was pleasant and dining area appeared clean.

I have always received outstanding service at this location. The food is always good; Tuesday and Thursday are great days to go. They have Taco Tuesday and Throwback Thursday (burrito combo for $5). They have good sauces at their hot bar, though only one super-hot and it's the least tasty (plain Ghost sauce; the Red Ghost is the ultra hot one that has a good flavor). I usually go on Thursdays and get a chicken+bean burrito served wet with chioptle red sauce on it. Delicious and filling. The staff will deliver your food as well as get you refils on your drinks. They've always been friendly and smiling. I'll be a regular here.

Yum! It had been a while since I had visited a Tijuana Flats and this was the first time to this location. It was late on a Friday and there weren't too many people in the restaurant. The staff was friendly and the place was nice and colorful and clean. Tijuana Flats has LOTS of different specials on different nights including kids eat free night (it was Tues. or Sun.) and a beer special night (Wed. I think) and even a local heros discount night that includes teachers, firefighters, police and more. Call for all those details! Ah, the food... great stuff and the hot sauce bar is wonderful. There are 10 - 15 different choices in varying levels of heat. I love the sweet and spicy and it's good on everything. Both my daughter and a friend had the chimichangas in steak, chicken and black bean varieties and they loved them. I had the spinach and artichoke quesadillia which was like dip smeared on tortillias and was too soggy to pick up. I'll try something else next time. But I will be going back!

We stopped here for lunch on our way through town. My brother lives in the area, and he recommended this restaurant to us. We visited around 1:30 in the afternoon on a Friday. It seemed to be a mix of family diners and professionals on their lunch hour. It wasn't too busy, and we were very pleased with the speed and quality of the food. My son has an allergy to milk, and they were very accommodating of our special ordering requests. The servings were very generous without being too much to eat. We enjoyed sampling salsas from their salsa bar, and the salsas were a great match for their fresh, warm chips. The quesadillas, flautas, chimichanga, and fajitas that we ordered were all excellent. The restrooms were clean and well-stocked. (I think that restroom quality can say a lot about how a business is being run). It's worth a stop if you are traveling through town. If you are a local, it's worth more than one stop. I only wish we had a Tijuana Flats near home so that I could get those delicious flautas whenever I want!

We have eaten here before when we've visited our kids in Florida, and we enjoyed the "fresh Mex" food and the plethora of hot sauces, and even thought that the corporation should consider locating a restaurant in Michigan, in a college town or busy resort area like Traverse City. On a recent trip back to Florida we ate here again, twice...but we're not loving the place so much. First of all, on both occasions we were annoyed by constantly hovering staffpeople; I appreciate good customer service as much as the next diner, but when you have not one but two waitpeople constantly bugging you, asking you how you feel about your food while you're trying to talk to your tablemates or even as you're attempting to take the first bite of your meal -- the staff needs to back off and wait for a more opportune time. Well-trained waitstaff know how to do this. Today I actually saw a waitperson who'd been outside tidying the patio tables scurry like a desperate puppy behind a customer coming into the restaurant, asking him how she could help him before he could even orient himself inside the dining area. Is the staff on some sort of commission, or do they not have other tasks to do to help them manage their time more efficiently? Good grief. We have also been disappointed by the quality of our recent meals. The tortilla chips tasted bitter -- cooked in old grease, maybe? -- and the tacos/burritos were just kind of thrown together. The fish tacos were dry -- I liked the citrus flavor of the marinade the fish was evidently seasoned in, but there was no crema or other sauce to act as a binding element. We also didn't care for the sloppiness of the hot-sauce area. (Maybe instead of birddogging customers the staff could spend some extra time keeping this area looking neat and clean.) It's also really loud inside; we appreciate the uptempo music, but tick the volume down a couple of notches so we can hear one another at the table.

Sitting outside with my 5 year old listening to Ja Rule. Ok in my twenties but not appropriate for my children. Ground beef in burritos not fully cooked and kids chicken strange. Bathrooms are clean and employees are nice

The story you are about to read is true... 6:05 pm Saturday. My partner and I are heading to dinner on a lead from a local musician who is playing at this Tex-Mex bistro. If your not familiar with Tijuana Flats, they have a good selection of modern american style mexican food. They also feature a Hot Bar with 10-15 varieties of hot sauce ranging from mild to severely painful. On Saturday's, this TF's also feature a local band from 6pm-9pm. They play in the parking lot, so on nice nights you can sit comfortably on the patio. The restaurant also has a small selection of Mexican beers including a couple on tap. Overall, nice night - good tunes, good time.

The fare is pretty fresh-mex and the wait staff is very friendly, almost too friendly. It feels like cheer camp sometimes. Anyway, when they opened the food was hotter and served more quickly but recently (Summer 2010) the quality has fallen off. The blackened chicken on my tacos was cold and you can tell it had been cooked much earlier by how rubbery it was. Chips are still fresh and hot and the crushed ice in the drinks can't be beat in the summer. Lastly, whenever I have been in there at least 1/2 of the hot sauce dispensers have been empty or broken. What good is it having 10 hot sauces if I can only sample 3 or 4 of them? The really hot ones are almost always out. In general, it's a great franchise and a Central Florida original, but this one location has let the food suffer and hopefully they will bring it back.

Not a huge fan. The flavor is just not great IMO. Much rather go to Chipotle any day of the week.

This is not real Mexican. Its freshican. Seriously the food here just tastes fresh and nicely seasoned. Its enjoyably fresh. Hey I like that and maybe you will too. :) I love everything on the menu which makes it hard to choose what I want to eat. My niece likes it here too.

This may have been the best service experience at any quick-food Tex-Mex joint in recent memory. They took my order quickly, brought the food out quick, got me a soda while waiting to order (!), and refilled my soda like 5 times. The food, while not authentic Mexican, was super tasty - crisp hard shells, yummy pork, and amazing hot sauces. The biggest reason to come here, though, were the young women working here - maybe the cutest I've ever seen outside a Hooters. Honestly, it's worth just going to see the servers! Cute and polite, along with fresh food; can't beat it!

Good food and fun salsa bar. This is a stable of central FL and certainly worth a trip into the flats.

Eaten here MANY times and when we went for Veterans Day, my meal was free (retired Navy) but my wife's was also free. We did pay for our 3 year old though. We have had nothing but good tasty food and friendly service EVERY time. And they know us now.

The service here is great. They always make sure your drink is full. The two stars is because of the inconsistently of their food. We go there on Tuesday for Taco Tuesday's. Each week the food portions change. This week I had full tacos and not a lot of chips. Last week I had tons of chips and skimpy tacos. When we asked the manager why some weeks the tacos are full of ingredients and some weeks they are not he said that it was because they tell their cooks to make it like they would want it. This seems odd to me and would be the reason that the food is very inconsistent.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
