I had a very bad experience at this restaurant last night on Valentine's Day . There were three in our party. Two ordered sushi as an entree and I ordered a hot meal. They served the sushi in a reasonable amount of time. 15 minutes later I checked with the waitress to ensure my order was coming and she said it was . After another 30 minutes of no food and no communication I asked again. The waitress was quite rude and said that sometimes the kitchen is backed up. I checked with a woman who appeared to be the manager and got the same rude response. I found the waitress and asked to cancel my order and bring us the check. She brought the check with my meal cost on the bill and with an additional 10% gratuity. We found her again and asked to have both removed from the check. She brought the updated bill with my meal cost removed but the gratuity still on it. We paid in cash, the amount without the gratuity. Every establishment can make mistakes or have an off night. The biggest concern for us was the rudeness, lack of communication and lack of any apology. We will not go back!,

Great place, small space. I've heard great things about this restaurant and was excited to finally try it out. We ordered the combination platter because we couldn't pick just one roll. As we waited for our dinner, every plate that was brought to the surrounding tables looked delicious. Everything came out fresh and looked great. I think we will be back!

I was a bit skeptical about trying Ocean Star given the recent reviews (great food but not so great service) but we were not in a rush so slow service would have been ok. It turned out not to be an issue at all. We were pleasantly and quickly greeted at the door, shown to a booth, and the waitress came to the table in just a few minutes. They were almost completely full, but appeared to have enough staff to adequately handle the tables. We ordered only sushi tonite, and only from the specials menu, and were VERY pleased! The sushi was fresh and beautifully presented. One of the rolls that we ordered was the Bradenton roll ( a tempura battered scallop) which was fabulous! I will be returning to Ocean Star! The price for 3 rolls, 2 tuna pieces, a glass of plum wine, and 1 beer, was $58. They do have a small sushi bar with seating for about 10, so if you are only there for the sushi, that would be a good choice for seating.

This was my first experience of sushi in Bradenton and it did not fail to meet my expectations of quality. I went with the safe choice of a california roll and the Tekka tuna roll. Both tasted fresh and the tuna was not overly fishy! Prices were by no means outrageous. Very friendly staff and attentive service! I look forward to ordering something more adventurous next time now that I know they surely have the basics down.

They have the freshest fish and the best tasting sushi in town. I love the Rocky Baby Roll, Sake roll and Green Bay roll. My husband has to order a volcano roll every time we go there. Delicious!

The food was good. All the sushi seemed fresh and the salad that came with the combo platter was surprisingly good! The prices are a tad high but worth it in the sense that I won't have to worry about getting sick from bad sushi.

Best sushi around. While service can sometimes be slow the quality is always reliable. Favorite sushi bar

"You must be my Ocean Star 'Cause you shine on me wherever you are" Hands down, best sushi in this garbled mess of consumerism strip mall desalinized homogeny. It's dang good. Dove into the Ebi Tempura, Hamachi, Philly and Hawaiian. 'Twas easily satisfied and thoroughly thrilled at the realization that there's something special lying in wait along the Cortez corridor.

The sushi is not that great. It's bland, has small portions, and it's overpriced. There are much better choices of sushi restaurants in the area. Ice cream was freezer burned. We were not pleased and won't return.

We have only been here once so far & we are willing to try it again - I'll explain. Location is in a strip plaza, so you have no idea what to expect of the inside. Surprisingly, it is welcoming, cute & clean. Oddly though, they had a TV playing in the corner of the room, with HGTV going. With the cute decor, music would have been better appreciated, maybe Japanese music to set the tone. We ordered Miso Udo soup to start. It was good tasting but not very warm, temperature wise. We also ordered sushi rolls: Green Bay, Spicy Tekka, & Volcano. The Volcano has a creamy crab mixture on top - yummy. The Green Bay was fresh & very good. Lastly, the Spicy Tekka was nice. There was an additional sushi roll on the platter that we did not order, but we did not discover that until the meal was over. What I mean is that I assumed my husband ordered it & he assumed I ordered it - but neither of us did! It was the Gator (which is eel). It was also one of the most expensive rolls on their menu! We did eat it, so we decided to go ahead & pay for it. My husband questioned the waitress about it, so she showed us our sushi check list that my husband filled out. True, we did order the roll 'below' the Gator, but not the Gator. They said it looked like he ordered it to them. Whatever, but it was our least favorite roll. We also ordered beer to drink. Once our glasses were empty, they stayed empty. We also were never even offered water. Our waitress was slow, and then non-existent. It took us forever to get our bill & forever for her to finalize it for us. The food was good, so next time, we will order take-out. There is just no reason to go in & sit there twice as long as you want to be there & to be thirsty. We will also be Very Careful when ordering rolls off the 'check list' - I advise you to do the same, or you might end up with rolls you did not order, like we did!

You know those places that you keep going back to, and then kicking yourself for doing so because it is not that good? When I eat here, I feel like I am being punished. Ocean Star, also called Lily Ocean Star, has been here for years. Replacing the Taste of Tokyo location that used to reside in the same space. The space is small and cutely decorated, and the service is somewhat terrible. Even when they are slow, it does not make a difference. We ended up coming back here to visit because our favorite sushi place in Bradenton was overflowing on a Friday night. I was not greeted when I entered; it felt like forever just standing there while staff just walked on by ignoring me. I just stood there staring at the empty, clean tables that I was not yet allowed to sit down at. That is the most annoying feeling to me --- when a restaurant would prefer a customer to wait standing, then seated at a table. They were definitely not understaffed. The sushi is not a good value for the money paid. Normally, service does not mean that much to me when rating restaurants, but is just so bad here. There is one waitress that is so angry and mean to customers. However, the waitress that speaks Japanese is very kind. There is a special handwritten menu on the white board to the right of the sushi bar, but it is written very small and difficult to read. So, I usually just order off of the check-list menu. To get full, expect to pay more than $30 a person. While they do offer katsu and curry dishes, as well as some more authentic style Japanese dishes that you can only get if there is a Japanese owner or staff.

This place literally has the slowest service in town - learning how to make your own sushi at home and cooking it would be faster than coming here!! Make sure you have 2 hours or more

Word of advise, don't get thai for at a Japanese restaurant. Sushi isn't bad but not great. They are extremely expensive for what they were...

Would love to have good sushi place nearby but the service is abysmal. We waited 25 minutes for them to TAKE our order. Sushi is good for small city market but the service is so awful we can't recommend.

The service was incredibly slow. Our salads and wine came out right away but our sushi took 45 minutes and the restaurant was not busy. Also, it took a long time for us to be able to pay. No explanation on the slow service or apology. We probably will not be going back here, although the food was good.

Service sucks!!! Sat there for 10 minutes and the server didn't come once. Ended up walking out. They obviously don't want the business.

I have eaten here half a dozen times for lunch and I'm never let down. Their sushi is well-crafted and always delicious.

We have eaten here several times and have always had a terrific meal. The Bradenton Roll is my favorite, if you like scallops it will be yours as well. Service can be a little slow at times but the food makes up for it.

We ate here on our final night in Florida and it was great! It was Friday & Halloween and we had no issue getting a table. Winnie (spelling??) was our waitress and she was super friendly. Todd was helping out as host but seemed like a manager to me and he checked in with every table to make sure things were ok. The new location at the marina where Rotten Ralph's used to be is AMAZING! The sunset was beautiful! We ordered WAY too much sushi but it all got devoured. They even made a special tempura for my grandmother who is sensitive to spicy food she said it was in the top 5 best she had ever had! We have been to the one on East Bay Dr and will continue to come back. Thank you!

Did take out on 11th August 2014 for three adults cost was 58 bux. We ordered shrimp and chicken teriyaki. The meal absolutely sucked. The chicken was bland and was rubbery and very small portion. The shrimp was the same. Would not recommend take out from this place. Maybe dinning is better but I won't know cause will not drop another penny in this place.

Very good! This is probably the best sushi place in Bradenton. I have noticed that I can get some of the same rolls at other places for less $$$. But I still like coming to OS.
