Not many Mexican food stands/hole in the wall places that ive seen since i moved here from socal, but this place is a nice alternative. not too pricey and their service is quick. they immediately seat u then suddenly there r chips/dip and drinks in front of u. decent carnitas. good pico but watch out they'll charge ya for extras. salsa could use more kick. beans were good. rice seemed a touch old. two for ones on domestics at happy hour. definitely worth another try if my taco shop search fails..

Don't bother! We were enthused to see a full parking lot on a Monday night. But that's where it ended. Service was very poor. We sat there forever before the waiter showed up at our table, then he asked us if we wanted to drink and then he disappeared, still no menus! Then he finally came back with their "special" Margarita which apparently does not come with tequila. Then the food...after we finally ordered it showed up at the table appetizer with the entrée. Seven dollars for a tiny bowl of guacamole and very chewy chicken chimichangas. A little suspect. Overall, very very slow service and mediocre food

Yummy Authentic food! Big helpings! Great margarita's too! Get the big one with the Coronita upside down in it! You won't be disappointed! Even has bigger tables for larger parties. Always busy! Recommend!

best "mexican" in bradenton, there are better taco places but the carnitas, combo plates an cheese dip is the best in manatee.

Great food. Best guac ever, I always get a big one. Their margaritas are so good, the large is the size of my head. Their tacos are way better than Pabloanos on taco Tuesday!

We eat here often. The service is very good, the food is always hot & full of flavor & you never have to wait long for it to arrive. Plus it's very reasonable. The margarita's are wonderful & you can even get a personal sized pitcher of them. We always enjoy our meal at this restaurant.

Ok, I'm being a little generous ! It's really 3++ stars but since FL doesn't seem to have any good Mexican restaurants it's almost a 5 in FL. My best description is that the quality of the food is really good but the flavor of the food (really important in Mex food) is a bit bland. Everything I had was both good and just ok at the same time. Chips and salsa ... Really liked the salsa but wished that the chips came out warm. I ordered the chicken enchiladas Verde (green) as well as one each of the ground beef and shredded beef tacos. All the items were similar. Properly cooked, very good quality but definitely bland. I love salsa Verde and it usually has somewhat of a bite (spicy) but their Verde is extremely mild. The ground beef taco just tasted like ground hamburger. No seasoning or spice. They mistakenly gave me a shredded chicken taco instead of the shredded beef (waitress kindly offered to get me the correct item but I was filling up and didn't need more food). Like the enchilada, the shredded chicken taco was very well made but just tasted like chicken. They had a good beer selection and I haven't tried the margaritas yet. I will definitely give it another try and next time I will ask what items are popular or house specialties.

Eh, it was just okay. First time here so maybe I ordered the wrong thing. Fella got a chimichanga with beef and he said it was good. My enchiladas were so so and my tamale was, well, I've had better. Overall it was Americanized and not very spicy or flavorful. I'd like to find a more authentic Mexican food joint. I'll keep looking....

My first time here! It was awesome! Been searching for a New Mexican place since I moved to the Bradenton area. The place is clean and our waiter was very friendly! Had the bean burrito and rice and it was really good! A lot of food to chose from! They have a pick three menu for 10.99. They make all the sauces homemade and daily! Free chips and salsa! Can't wait to come back!

I'm so happy I had real Mexican food. The food was delicious and service was great.. I wish this restaurant move to the Vermont:)

The quality of chips and salsa are usually a good indicator of how the food will turn out. While they weren't he best I've ever had, they certainly delivered. The salsa was delicious, and the chips were fresh. I ordered the "La Super" (yes, I know how terribly this sentence translates). It came with a chimichanga, a chicken & cheese quesdadilla, and a flauta -- all topped with white queso. The queso was the MVP of the entire meal. You could probably drench an old dirty shoe in that stuff and it would taste amazing.

Loved it last time. Expect it to be great again. Now, I will say that we were taken (by the hostess) a bizarre way through the restaurant. Kind of like a little maze through all the tables. Seated in the patio/lanai type area (sort of like on the back porch). It is very crowded again today (Tuesday). I have to assume it is always crowded because it is always good? Lots to choose from. Vegetarian today, so salsa and chips with a quest to start. I did read the review saying no ZIP on the salsa but there is a little heat. I do, usually like my salsa a bit thicker. The flavor is great, but I prefer a little more chunky. A little slow service, but probably because of the crowd. We ordered the chili poblano & queso. Huge numbers of families here. That is usually a good sign also. Food is here. Small delay on the queso (forgot to order it is my guess). Sauces are a notch below top but still good and the tortillas are wicked hot and freshly made on site. The poblano is very good too. Tasty and the flavor lingers on the tongue through the entire bite especially if you add salsa. Queso was a bit slow and a bit thin. Not bad at all, but films easily because it is too thin. So, overall, not as good as last time. Still pretty decent, but not great. Will probably be back but not in as big of a hurry as we were.

Love the Burrito California. It is big enough for my wife and I share. It makes makes for a cheap, tasty date.

This is where we go any time we want reasonably priced sit-down 'Mexican' food with great margaritas. I wish the salsa and red sauces had a little more kick to them, but I've always left here feeling like I've had a good-to-great meal.

This is hands down our favorite Mexican place and our go to Taco Tuesday destination. $0.99 tacos (shredded chicken is the best but you can also get shredded or ground beef) and $3.50 margaritas can't be beat. It's not gourmet by any stretch of the imagination but it's good food at a decent price and the margaritas are huge and delicious. I recommend the margarona, not too sweet but very effective! Also the ACP with a side of tortillas!

We had a positive experience. The food was good and we had good service. We'll be back! Sangria was delicious! I had tacos michaolanos which others on yelp recommended, I thought they were pretty good as well. Nice atmosphere. Definitely recommend it to others.

When we first walked in the place was packed, and everybody looked to be Latin which I assumed spoke to its authenticity. The house margarita, I can assure you, was not the best in town as they claim. My veggie fajitas were delicious though. I would've had a better experience had we not been sitting below a TV acting as the music system for the entire restaurant, blaring satellite music that kept pausing to load. I'd go here again in a pinch, but not if I had other options.

This place was recommended by our neighbor. We are new in town, we moved here from San Diego. This place is excellent! My wife had cheese enchiladas with mole sauce and I had the ?chiliequiles?. We were both very impressed with everything from the decor to the food! We both highly recommend this place to anyone looking for really good authentic, very reasonably priced food! Can't wait to come back!

It's was OK. Reasonable prices. Service wasn't the greatest but you get what you pay for. Food wasn't authentic Mexican , it is more of a Texmex

Last time I was here was in mid-2009. The prices are reasonable, most of the food I've had is good, the large frozen margarita with 1800 tequila is tasty and strong and the salsa is decent (have ordered a large container to go on occasion). My ultimate favorite here was the chicken soup. They used to give a small bowl free along with the salsa and chips before the meal arrived. I am not sure if they still do that or if I got any on that very last visit. Oh, and you also see real Mexicans (straight from the Motherland or descended, not quite sure) eating here. The white queso dip is also good along with the fried ice cream. So why am I giving Mr. Tequila 2 stars instead of a solid 4? Well, 1 star is for the soup and the other for the frozen margaritas, but when I went to the women's bathroom on that last visit it wasn't super clean, but the real kicker was that I saw one of those flying (in Florida they do) German roaches crawling around. If that isn't a reflection of what's going on in their kitchen, I don't know what is. Seeing that dirty little thing roaming around totally turned my stomach. They seriously need to do a Gordon Ramsay all over clean up and call in an exterminator. I probably should have rung up the Health Department at the time, but in pennance, I am giving you the heads up instead. If you do end up going get a double large frozen margarita to kill any of the funky roach germs you may encounter. I hope that's not what gave their delicious chicken soup extra flavor. They have a location in Palmetto, where I've eaten at too, but did not see any dirty insects there.

I have been frequenting Tequilas for about three years now and the food has been very consistent every time. The atmosphere is quaint and festive, located inside of a strip mall off of Cortez Road. There are a few waiters that are not that great, but other than that the service is very fast. Almost all of my visits were on my lunch break, because you receive your food in less than ten minutes. This is not authentic Mexican food, like Acapulco Tropical, but is an excellent place to sit down, unwind on break, and get your cheese fix. As soon as you are seated, you are given a basket of chips and salsa. The salsa is delicious and very acidic, with lots of lime. The chips are the hard kind, just think tortilla kettle chips. During lunchtime only, you also get a free cup of soup which consists of chicken broth, shredded chicken, rice, cilantro, chopped onion, and lime. I highly recommend their Cheese Dip ($3.50 small), a small cup of white cheese with chopped green chilies. The Guacamole ($2.99 small) is full of flavor and a lot of onion, to my liking, as well as lime juice. I have tried almost everything on their menu, but I would have to say that my favorite is their entrees that have carnitas in them. Carnitas are shredded pork that can either be deep fried for long periods of time in a large piece, or slow roasted or stewed in an oven until tender and falling apart. Tequilas has the best carnitas that I have ever tasted, because they cook it for so long that all of the fat melts away, just leaving you with the moist meat. At many places, it will just be shredded pork and huge globs of fat, not like that here. The Quesadilla Carnitas ($6.50 small) is my favorite, and is a flour tortilla overflowing with chopped vegetables, white cheese, and carnitas. Then, the whole thing is covered in white cheese dip. They have many combo dishes that you can find at most places, but they do have Tacos Michoacanos ($7.99), which is your choice of meat with cilantro and chopped onion and a wedge of lime. This is an authentic dish that you cannot find just anywhere. I recommend it with corn tortillas instead of flour and with chicken or beef. Their extensive selection of seafood dishes is something that I have yet to try. Their Margaritas are delicious, but be warned; they will get you drunk if you drink a medium ($6.25). Their other drinks are no joke either, they have a large array of blended daiquiris as well a large selection of imported beer. The frequent diner card often comes in handy, and I just received my free lunch today.

For dinner in Florida, we visited Mr. Tequila's. It didn't look like much from the outside, but the food was very good. They give you free chips and salsa. The salso was good, but the chips tasted like they were straight out from a bag. At Mr. Tequila's, I figured I had to try a margarita. This time I decided to take the margorona, which is a margarita with a corona in it. To be honest, I'd prefer a regular margarita. I don't think I want a beer mixed with my margarita. However, it was a new experience. My meal was the best. It was called a caldo de mariscos. It was a seafood soup. It had crab legs, octopus, shrimp, oysters, and fish. I would definitely order this again. It also came with rice and tortillas. I was too full to finish it or to eat the tortillas. I actually took them with me and used them the next day and made quesadillas.

Great food!! What pretty Mexican restaurant and super colorful. The chips an salsa were fresh and delish!! We ordered a large guacamole dip and it was good but could've used a little more lime. My daughter had 3 beef tacos that were quite full and tasty. Hubby had 2 enchiladas and a toastada that he said very flavorful and a cheese chili relleno that was amazing! The sauce on it was perfect! I had the Cali burrito and it was huge and DELISH!! Service was great too. My only complaint was it was really hot in there.

Hands down best Mexican food I've ever had! My mom came to visit from Seattle so we decided to go to dinner at mr tequilas for the first time. We pulled up and were somewhat nervous about the outside of the building, but don't let that fool you. Salsa was fresh and chips were not too salty. I had the vegetarian fajitas and they were soooooo good!! The best! Will be back again very soon!!

Great mexican food. A little sketchy on the outside, but beautiful and authentic on the inside. Chips and salsa served right away and delicious. The Margaritas come small, medium, or large. I had the Special Enchiladas and my husband had a carnitas burrito. The burrito was huge! Definitely would go again. Great service.

I came to this place on a friends recommendation. I was craving Mexican food and finally we decided to go. Like other reviews say, dont judge the place by the outside appearance. Its located in a shopping plaza but once inside is a different story. The decorations are very authentic and so is the food. I was really craving some good tacos and they were definitely great. I ordered tacos michoacanos and my boyfriend ordered burritos a la Roqueta both with carnitas. Of course I had to order a medium size margarita because they said its good and I couldn't leave without trying it. Then I saw they had micheladas which is a mexican drink I have tried before but I didn't like theirs too much because it had too much clamato juice. For dessert we had mr. Tequila ice cream which was good, next time I will get the churros rellenos. Ive gone to other mexican restaurants in the area and this is the best one so far. Will definitely come back when craving mexican food again.

I am shocked...just speechless that this place has received any positive reviews. My husband and I tried Mr. Tequila for lunch and the food was not eatable. We both took 2 bites of our respective dishes and pushed them away. Literally could not take another bite it was so greasy, full of gristle, and tasted like it had been sitting around for days. Usually we give a restaurant 2 tries before writing it off, but there is no circumstance where someone could convince me to eat there again. Want decent Mexican food? Go to Poblano's on 70.

I wasn't a huge fan of Mr. Tequila. The inside decor is nice and the servers were very nice. The food was average tasting. I was disappointed in the sauce on the enchiladas and tamales. The tamales tasted like previously frozen and then served. The chile relleno had the best sauce of the three, but still not impressed. I'm still trying to find a good authentic Mexican restaurant in the area.

I hate to say it, but I don't think Mr. Tequila has the best carnitas any more. I came here the other week with an old co-worker as the taco wagon we were heading too wasn't open that night. He had been there before and we were both looking forward to some good carnitas tacos or maybe some of the green chile enchiladas they do right. the menu was a bit different, but this place has always been improving it presentation and sprucing itself up a bit over the years, which is great. I ordered the carnitas tacos like I often do here and and my co-worker, who is from Venezuela, starting chatting up the waiter to find out if there were any really good things off menu or things to try. But it didn't sound like it was going all that well. When you here there isn't any chocolate in the mole you start to wonder. Always we both ended up getting tacos. Rather than the traditional onion and cilantro they set down some lettuce and tomato covered tacos. Which was fine, but not what I was looking for and not what I had come to expect here. Also, in the past the carnitas were rich and flavorful with the fat and meat just a touched caramelized. These were plain and dull. While the meat was good, the flavor and the touch that made them special was gone. Not sure what happened, but things had changed at Mr. Tequilla while I was off playing at the taco wagons. It is still good, but it seems to have lost some of its edge and probably adapted to a changing client base. My pal from Venezuela felt the same, and it has been a bit longer since he had last been there and it wasn't up to what he remembered either. Again, not bad, but more gringo than it used to be.

I am so confused about the really good reviews. The food here is a bad attempt at making Mexican food. I ordered the lunch #6 and enchiladas. The #6 was rice which was overly seasoned with cumin, topped with cheese, topped with salty black beans, topped with chopped chicken, topped with lettuce & tomato, topped with sour cream. WT*?! I don't recall the menu describing it like this. It was disgusting! The rice had too much cumin. The cheese sauce on the rice was uncalled for. The black beans were ridiculously salty and the chopped chicken was dry. Now for the enchiladas. The presentation was horrible. The green sauce was overly acidic. The chopped steak inside of the enchiladas were just OK. The rice was the same cumin rice that was in the L#6 and the beans were awful. There was also a slice of an orange on the enchilada plate. WHY?! I like real Mexican food. I have no idea what Mr. Tequila serves.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Bradenton. Service is great. Food comes out fast. Portions are huge. The Queso cheese sauce they put on some of there dishes is AMAZING.If you just want some drinks the bar area is a favorite amongst my friends. Try a margarona....

The lunch specials are worth the trip. I get the $4.99 spinach and chicken quesadilla. It comes with a side of rice that is pretty bland but okay is you pour some of the chip salsa on it. Chips and salsa are delivered to your table within a minute of you sitting down and it is complimentary. The last time I was there the service was pretty horrible and it took forever for me to get my lunch special which usually arrives within 10 minutes or so. When I did get it, it was quite apparent that the quesadilla had baked under the heat lamp for too long because it was baked hard. Previous visits never had that problem so I'll assume it was an off day. The service was bad that day, too, with the waiter walking by my table several times without checking on me. He never came back to process my credit card when I was ready to leave. It's annoying to sit there and wait when you are all done and ready to go. I finally went to the main counter and paid my tab and left. Other visits have had great service so I'll give them the benefit of a doubt. The restaurant is located across from Desoto Mall (Sears side of the mall) and it's in a half-dead shopping plaza. It's easy to miss but it has decent food and is worth a visit.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
