This place is legit. I got the Señor Hambre with steak. It was gigantic and seasoned with a nice little kick. My party got the queso fundido, which was basically a nice chorizo and queso dip. The service was quick. It was delicious. My party and I wanted something a little more authentic than most Mexican places and Habaneros delivered. It was terrific! And I left stuffed. If you want a hungry man's meal with some heat, get the Señor Hambre.

I consider myself quite the Mexican food connoisseur and this place is up there. I ordered the chicken chimichanga (you get 2) and my fiancé ordered the Chile Verve Pork and we were so pleased! I'm very meticulous about rice at Mexican restaurants and I love rice with a tomato base. Reasonably priced with large portions.

Love this place. Chili verde is the bomb. Excellent service. We've been coming here a while and have always had a good experience.

We've been a couple of times for their taco Tuesday and have found a significant improvement from when they first opened. Their bean tacos are very delicious. The beans taste as though they're cooked with bacon, but I'm not sure if that's the case. Either way - YUM!

Usually a restaurant that just opens starts out ok and gets better. Hoping this was a new cook that they've since gotten rid of, this place did the opposite. The last two times we've been here, the service was slow (tho not the chips guy) and the waiters seemed to want to be doing something else. The food was ok (as compared to super good at first). I got a burrito (huge!) and my husband got a chicken dinner. We walked out of there saying, "What happened?" We will probably go back some time, since its only a block from our house, but we're not chomping at the bit. They do have a full bar and the parking lot is usually full. I'm wondering if it will become a bar with Mexican food or if they will get their act together. Apparently Tuesday night is the night to go because that's when the parking lot is fullest. Parking it's limited, tho, so if you try a Tuesday night, be prepared to hunt for a spot. Everyone who worked there was Hispanic. Some didn't even speak English very well. I believe it is real Mexican food. Here's hoping a better chef got hired.

Oh my good lord my poor belly. Why did you do this to be Habaneros? No, no, I can't blame you. My cravings wrote a check my stomach can't cash. It's not your fault, except it is. So I decided I wanted to try something new during lunch today. When I don't bring my own lunch to work, I tend to just grab a sandwich or sub, but I wanted to sit down and read today, so I drove to Habaneros, having passed it a number of times. After reading their menu before walking in, I figured tacos would do, but when I walked in and read their full menu, I decided to go with their chili verde. Ohhhhhhhhh, boy. Mistake. Anyway, firstly, and this isn't a problem, but my server was this corn-fed farmers boy from Idaho. Not very authentic. No, the servers in a Mexican Restaurant do not need to be Mexican, but if your server in a Chinese restaurant was a white dude from Wisconsin, you'd probably be a bit worried about the authenticity. Maybe it's just me. Service was great - he was awesome, no complaints, and like I said, this isn't an issue. Just found it unexpected. Started with the standard chips and salsa that any good Mexican restaurant gives automatically. Liked the chips - tasted fresh, not greasy. Salsa was good, too. Not very chunky though - may have been store bought. The chili verde looked like it'd be good. Large chunks of pork that just fell apart sitting in a green chili sauce, refried beans, and rice, with corn tortillas. It looked better than it tasted, not that it tasted bad though. Just not great. If it wasn't for the noises being made by my stomach, I might have gone 3 stars. The tortillas were a problem They brought me out 4 corn tortillas wrapped in aluminum foil, but clearly they were wrapped poorly or too soon because they were all stuck together. I was only able to get 2 tortillas out of the whole deal. The last problem was the smell. When I sat down, it smelled like a bathroom. Should have known at that point and just left, but I would have been embarrassed. So, to recap. Okay food, bad tortillas, horrible smell, and terrible terrible stomach pains afterwards. Sound good to you?

One of the best experiences my family and I have had in a long time. Services was awesome. Food was fresh. Portions were generous. Definitely will return.

ALERT: NOT VEGETARIAN FRIENDLY!! I was very excited to see their "vegetarian" selections on their menu - however this must be a joke! Ordered the "vegetarian" fajitas, when they arrived found a few pieces of steak. Explained to my waitress that I'm a vegetarian, ordered "vegetarian" fajitas and asked her politely to have the chef make a new plate. Now after at least 45 minutes at the restaurant, my 2nd round of "vegetarian" fajitas comes out and I find a piece of chicken in it this time! I couldn't believe it. I told her I'm not going to reorder and sent it back. To top off my horrible experience, I saw my waitress explaining to either the owner or manager what happened and I saw him laugh and shrug it off like no big deal. Extremely disappointed to say the least. I will never eat here again and do not recommend for any vegetarians!

Excellent Service, Friendly staff and the Best Margaritas in Town, Taco Tuesday is a great opportunity to taste "carnitas tacos" and Chunky Guacamole. My server was Mckency, (A+)

Grub Guru stopped by Habaneros in Dec '14 and since we are originally from Los Angeles Ca, we know Mexican food...we are mexiperts! So, in hopes to find that diamond in the rough here SoFlo, Habaneros didn't bring the heat. Ordered the guacamole....actually good expect that the bottom of our guacamole bowl was filled with lettuce....hhuummmm....are we paying by weight? Suggestion: get rid of the blanket of lettuce...gives patrons a bad perception. Ordered the Marg...titanic glass...big enough for all of us. Tacos were subpar with overcooked meat and bland tortillas. Again, this place has big potential but tweaks are needed to push them over our 2 stars.

Great Dinner! A local family member recommended this restaurant and we were not disappointed. The Fajita Nachos are incredible! Very flavorful and a generous portion.

We came here twice during our stay. The first time we all really enjoyed our meals. My dad had the soup and I had a combo with a chilli relleno and enchilada verde. Delicious. My tummy paid for it though. Maybe it's the lard in the beans? I'm from California where most places don't use lard in favor of being vegetarian friendly. Anyway, who knows. The second time my sister and I both got the tapatio burrito and my dad got the combo plate. This time we all agreed the food was a bit bland. And once again my tummy paid the price. Next time we are in town I think I will avoid this place. I really wanted to like you, habaneros. If it wasn't for the first experience, I would have given it 2 stars.

Love coming here. Always had great service and awesome food. I love their margaritas and can't beat their happy hour special ($3 Rita). Always a good experience

This place is very good. Food was top notch. High quality. Service was quite friendly. Only two things keeping it from 5-star quality. 1.). Vegetarian options limited. They can make anything w/I the meat, but that is not actually a vegetarian option since the price is the same. 2.). Got charged a dollar for the spicy salsa when the chunky salsa is free of charge. Not a big deal, but was not told ahead that the spicy one had a charge.

Had the skinny quesadilla and $3 margarita at happy hour. Salsa was fresh, atmosphere great, and Hombre Roho our waiter was great!

The restaurant was very clean. The service was excellent. And the food was good. Unfortunately good isn't the best. I have better choices closer to my home. I wouldn't avoid eating here but I also won't go out of my way. As always, large Negra Modelos on draft so how can I even complain?

This place is awesome. Food is delicious and authentico. I've lived in Mexico and am from California I know. There Buenos has big No Cheese. (funnin w/punning) It is great and we made a point to get back twice. Diego WILL take care of you. The chunky guacamole was a treat. Fed the five of us as did the wonderful sea food nachos. Had the 3 choice combo plate, tamale, chili relleno and enchilada. Delicioso! The large mango marguerita surprised us all, about a quart served in a giant stemmed fishbowl impossible to finish without lots of help With their ultra reasonable prices, a meal here is a Fiesta event For those who posted negative reviews, apparently the establishment has evolved. Try them again Next trip out we're planning our stops there

Best Mexican food we've had in Bradenton so far. Not absolutely amazing or the best we've had ever, but Bradenton has some pretty shoddy choices for Mexican and this one is much better than the others. Fresh, fast, good flavor and prices. We will definitely be back.

This is the worst Mexican food I've ever had. The salsa is nothing more than tomato sauce with so little seasoning I can't call it seasoning. The quesadilla doesn't even look cooked and I felt like I was eating a fake tortilla when I ate the quesadilla and my soft taco. Absolutely the worst Mexican food I've had.

Let me make this short and sweet. If your going for the special .99 domestic drafts don't ever hear of bait and switch? If you are going because you have a coupon, don't.Too many reasons why you can not. If you are going for the food, don't. Went one time shame on them, went second time shame on me.Server was good very apologetic.

The food here is mediocre at best. When i asked about the type of steak they used in items that list steak, even the owner/manager didn't know. I watched as a server dropped a chip on the floor, picked it up, put it back in the basket and set it on a table for his customers to enjoy??!! This leaves one wondering what goes on in the kitchen that the public cannot see??!! On top of all this the place smells like a septic tank! Not what you want to smell while eating dinner. If it were not for the fact that we had met friends here I would have walked out. This was such a disappointment. We will not be going back.

Incredibly slow. Got our food after an hour. Food ok, but one person got her food almost 20 minutes after everyone else. This after we had to ask for napkins -- they brought us 5 for the 9 people. 8 of us got our food & then had to ask for Silver ware & more napkins. They discounted the late arrival one by less than 50% not a fun experience.

The best thing about this restaurant was the adorable man who kept our table flush in chips and salsa. He was attentive and very kind. I really wanted to love this place. Our family likes to support local, new businesses. My husband had the steak tacos and really enjoyed them. I ordered the lunch combination special, dairy-free. I had to send the food back three times because they continued to bring it out with cheese, after I explained when I ordered that I had a dairy allergy. After receiving my order the fourth time with cheese, my family had finished eating and we decided to leave. We went to pay and discovered that not only had they not removed the meal, they had charged for the lunch portion. My husband explained the situation and the waiter said there was nothing he could do and we would need to pay $9 for the $6 meal I ordered, that they messed up four times. Won't be returning, sadly.

Going to keep it simple here. Service was good, my husband and I were seated promptly in a booth as requested. However the cushions were way to high for the extremely low tables, but whatever not a huge deal... If you're not a stick figure, you may prefer to sit at a table. Chips and salsa are standard free here, the chips were fresh, not greasy... the salsa was a bit too watered down for my taste, but hey it's free can't really complain. Our waitress took our orders, my husband ordered carne asada tacos with a side of rice and beans, now traditionally carne asada is supposedly beef, but at this particular place they say it's pork... needless to say when they came to our table, they were indeed beef. So, not sure if the waitress was confused or just on an off day, but appeared she wasn't sure what meat came in the tacos. I ordered a "burrito hambre", it was decently sized, however I found myself fishing for the steak that was supposed to come in it, and pushing aside the heaping piles of red onions that were crammed in there with what appeared to be maybe two cups of beans. The steak pieces I did find, were cooked decently, and seasoned appropriately. However, when it came to my husbands "carne asada" it was bland, dried, and chewy. The tortillas were paper thin, gritty, and tasted like they'd been frozen for a decent amount of time. This was our first and last visit to Habaneros. As we were sitting there waiting for our food (which didn't take long), not drinking btw, we noticed the majority of the crowd around 6pm on a Saturday night were drinking heavily, and ordering food. I'm just thinking that perhaps this is similar to being plastered at 3am and the only place open is Taco Bell and you think it's like the food the Gods have provided you because you managed to keep most of your liquor down for the night. If I find myself craving mexican, I'll drive farther down Cortez and go to Mr. Tequilas that's for sure.

I was really excited to try this new restaurant, but sadly it was a pretty terrible dining experience. We were the only customers in Habaneros at 4:30pm. Four servers were working, or more accurately, sitting at the bar and talking. Service was incredibly slow and lacking. We ordered steak fajitas and chicken fajitas- both were horribly overcooked and the small amount of sides that came with were barely enough for one tortilla. When I asked for more, it showed up as an extra side on the bill even though they never said anything about it being extra. The rice and beans had obviously been sitting around and were very dried out. When I said the meat was way overcooked, the server said he would check and see what was going on in the kitchen, but never came back to tell us anything or offer any replacement. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Habaneros.

Food was really good and service was great. We got there about 40 minutes before closing. Big portions and good variety of menu choices. Pollo Monterrey was great, burritos were very good, as well as tacos. Chips and salsa per usual were good with refills. We will come back.

This place is nice , clean and friendly ! Plus the food was great . The chips and salsa are delicious and in the table as soon as you seat. The only negative is the kids meal , my 7 year old loves fajitas but not on the menu here so he got the cheese quesadilla , cold tortilla made with mozzarella cheese !. He was very disappointed , so were we. The burritos were good , the chicken quesadillas full of chicken and nicely spiced .

We came with a large group and had a HORRIBLE experience. We had to ask several times for silverware and napkins. The food took more than an hour to come out of the kitchen. When the food did come out, one person's food was taken to another table. The manager was spoken to but it still took another 25 minutes for the last plate to arrive. When the bills arrived, there was no discount, nothing to apologize to all the inconveniences. The server's comment was, "the kitchen is a hot mess". What a good job of making sure none of us ever returns.

Sunday @ 3:30 Was very quiet and no one else there. Walked in an immediately got seated. Chips and salsa on the table as we sat. The chips were awesome. Freshly made and the salsa was obviously made on site. The server was very good and tried to be authentic. Didn't work but who cares, he was great. Had the Cha Cha chimichanga which were delicious. They needed to be a little crispier but the taste made up for that. Besides they made me new ones in a few minutes. I would totally recommend you visit this place before considering the negative reviews. I don't think they were objective reviews.

the fish tacos are unedible. The dollar tacos on Taco Tuesday are the smallest I've ever seen.

Taco Tuesdays are the best. Expect a minimal wait time during season and it may take a little bit of time to get your check but food is worth the wait!!!! You will not be disappointed! I am so glad that we gave this place a 2nd chance because we never miss a Taco Tuesday now. We were there when they first opened and food and service was a lot to be desired. They are one of our favorite restaurants now!

A great homemade salsa. Large restaurant with plenty of seating for a big group. Super fast service that at first made me suspicious but the taste was above average and I left satisfied. Plenty to choose from on the menu and everyone at the table was happy.

I was not a fan of this place. The food was bland! I ordered the huevos rancheros and it was edible but not enjoyable. I would have been happier at a Denny's. I guess if you just crave standard Mexican food, this place will do, but don't have high expectations.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
