Have eated here many times and agree with most comments here. When the food and service is good it is really good. Figure you will have an 90% chance everything will be fine. My last visit had my usual and found everything but my Salad wonderful! The salad wedge needed to be inspected before going out to the table...outside leafs showed pink and rust thus was a turnoff. One of my guest had the lobster bisque and did not like the taste accordingly was returned with no charges. Service is friendly however sometimes hit or miss if it gets busy. Dean the owner welcomes comments and makes the necessary changes. The good news is the fish is fresh, menu will satisfy the lovers of land and sea. Oysters are big and tasty. Best prices for miles around. Peanut Butter pie is unbelieveable. I gave a rating of three groupers out of five. It should be 4 but the they still need to up their game on service and food consistency! Hint: Inspect the food before delivery, ensure the kitchen has the order cooked correctly and complete, acknowledge your customers if they are looking at you as your rushing around...just nod or say I will be right with you, figure out the workflow issues from the back office to the table for continuous improvement, have team meetings often to follow through on accountabilty! Sounds like a restaurant impossible review I guess...but I want this place to be no1!

Inconsistent! We came as a family with my husband, 2 1/2 yr old and 9 month old. We were first time visitors and were BLOWN away at the service AND the pipping hot, homemade taste of food. Everything from the Cargot-oysters to the kids pizza came hot and fresh tasting. We left Cedar Reef saying "Finally. An all around awesome place to go!" So. We made our SECOND visit back within that week! Yes. Twice in one week! This second visit however, was terrible. Our server came late to greet, our oysters came out cold. When we told the sever they were cold, they came back 5 minutes later to only have microwaved our oysters! Microwaved!! (This is not a grilled cheese folks!) My sons pizza came out with the oysters, and surprise, it was cold too. My Pina Colada shrimp was burnt and had to be sent back; at which point I would've had to wait another 20 mins for fresh. I declined a meal all together. My husbands dish was good and hot; the only meal to be successful! I was so disappointed in the vast difference of the two dining experiences I almost can't believe it is the same place we dined at previously. I can't say we will be returning- I'm not quite sure what may happen!

Okay listen... I'm not a "Yelper", I don't often leave reviews, but when you come upon a place that makes you download the Yelp app and sign up for an account it's something. First, let me tell you that I'm a restaurant person. I've done this work for 20 odd years. I might know a thing or two about food and how things should be done. Cedar Reef is legit! Mad scientist level with the Lobster Lasagna. Yes, I said LOBSTER LASAGNA. This isn't some Italian dish with lobster thrown in but a dish designed around true succulent Maine lobster. Get it. You won't be sorry. When you find chunks of sweet lobster within you'll know that I didn't lead you wrong. Now, for you land lubbers out there: tonight I had the most delicious Gouda and Portobello hamburger. Cooked perfectly with this crazy good siracha mayo. Man oh man, who knew a fish joint could knock out a burger like that! Oh, and grab the smoked fish spread. Just do it! Dessert? Oh nothing more than an amazing peanut butter pie. Not a peanut butter fan? Then go get some key lime brulé. Yep, brulé Florida style. That's not all folks! We have great food AND awesome service. Owner is usually around (or at his other location in Venice), the manager is super friendly, the wait staff bust their tails to take care of you, and it's clean. Yep, if I could drop a few more stars on this place, I would. My work travels brought me to Bradenton and I'm so glad I found this little gem.

Went there based on Yelp reviews. The Friday night Lobster Salad sandwich was better that we had in New England. Nice beverage selection.

Good local catch dishes. Nice garlic crusted grouper. Crab dishes were previously frozen and not so good. But the real issue is the service. Waitress did not come back after appatizers and when we asked another waitress to find here we got glaring looks from all the staff behind the bar. Waitress had a serious attitude from then on. Even with the good local catches there are plenty of other places more interested in your business.

Excellent blackened redfish. Beer selections are many microbrews. House wine was $10 bottle Friday night special. Menu had 6 different kinds of fish and chips.

Underwhelming. Easily the worst fried oysters I've ever had. Very pleasant waitstaff.

food was very very good. Alligator soup would of been amazing if served hot. Mine was cold. They took it back and then served it with my dinner. They have no comprehension of service. So they charged me for soup I did not eat. Then they took it into the back for me to take it home. No way I left it on the table. Could not get my wine... Then could not get my beer. I rote this on their comment card. The food was very good so I hope they fix their service. I am ashamed but I left a crap tip taking off the price of my $6.00 soup off the tip. It they took the soup off ( which I did not eat) I would have left a great tip

We were pleasantly surprised with our first visit and we will definitely be back. The decor was warm and inviting and there is also a small bar to one side of the dining area. I especially liked the elevated booths with raised sides for privacy. There are so many great menu items with a large variety of seafood prepared in many different ways. They even snuck gator into the menu! We started with conch fritters which were suprisingly among the best I have ever had! Unlike a lot of other restaurants these had large chunks of conch and were seasoned and fried to absolute perfection. I had the blackened grouper tacos with rice and beans on the side. My tacos were full of tasty grouper. My husband had the lobster roll and it was overflowing with large pieces of meat. (I helped him catch the overflow) Did I mention the draft beer being icy cold? Our waitress had a great sense of humor and was eager to please. We are so glad to have this spot so close by!

Don't be deterred by the strip mall ... This isn't a cheeky chain restaurant. My parents came about 2 months ago and put it on the "must visit" for us, now it's on my list as a place I'd easily go back to. Great service, plenty of options on the menu, and really good food. The items that aren't native to FL tasted just as fresh as the items that are bought locally. If you don't care for seafood they do have "land" items. Our waitress started working at the other location and when this one opened she asked to work here; while not as "busy" she said she loved the owner, chef, and believed in the food they produced. If that doesn't make you warm and fuzzy then you don't have a heart. The food was really good - only the gator soup seemed to differ than the menu description (it wasn't spicy at all) but still very filling & tasty. Portion sizes were spot on for the $ value. Specials are listed on the wall and come at a nice discount from the regular menu price. Just be aware that since most of the fish is locally purchased, once it's out - it's out. Don't blame the restaurant; they buy what was available that day. All of our dishes were satisfying and filled our bellies. Trivial Pursuit cards were on each table which kept us entertained and the phones away (well, unless I was taking my Yelp pics ;-) ) ... Clever idea & very fun. I think the people who left 1 or 2 start reviews should revisit this place, it's been a year since opening and I'll tell you what - it's great. They definitely have their act together so give it another shot.

Had the lobster roll and fried sea food platter. Everything was excellent. Tons of lobster and had a Friday special with $10 bottle of wine. Definitely recommend.

Probably the last time we'll go here. Stopped for lunch, slow service, indifferent waitress. Had to pull lunch specials our of her and she made them all sound unappealing. Clam chowder not hot, fish and chips just OK

Hands down the best place to get seafood in the Sarasota/Bradenton area. You must try the crab stuffed shrimp and the Tamiami dip. The staff was very polite and friendly. We had waiters check on us that were not even ours. Our server rob was very helpful and nice.

Food was average. Service was slow. Prices where great. Manager was very involved. Very casual place. Everyone else enjoyed their food. Childs pizza was a hero roll opened with sauce and cheese

Worst meal and service ever. Restaurant was empty except for the mosquitoes. We saw more of the insects than the staff. Ordered the salmon broiled. Got dry fish with no taste. Our waitress was more interested in doing anything other than working for her tip. The manager had to check on our table and get me another try at the salmon. Still not great. Will never go there again. Total waste of money and time. Didn't know it took 20 minutes to get a cold appetizer. Guess the cooks needed a book to figure out how to scoop fish dip onto a plate. Would give them no stars if that was an option.

I have to say we were soooo looking forward to eating here. Our go to place for fish done well, great fried shrimp and good ribs is Kacey's so we wanted this place to be as good because it's closer to our neck of the woods. We met up with my parents for dinner tonight and we not very impressed. Not really sure how they have so many good reviews. Maybe we have really high standards...but when you go to dinner and pay someone to cook for you then you should have high standards. We eat at Kacey's almost 3 times a month for the past 2 years and I think we have had 4 not so great dinners. Tonight, everyone's dinner here at Cedar Reef was a disappointment!!! Our waiter (Bryan I think) had a very laid back, almost I don't care attitude, took our drink order and our app order. We started with the fried calamari with no pepper's, to which he replied but the peppers are good, to which we replied, we don't like banana peppers with our calamari!! Hubby also ordered New Orleans French Fries, and Dad ordered the salmon chowder. Our waiter brought some of their herbed biscuits to hold us over and they were awful. WAY over seasoned with lots of either thyme or rosemary and undercooked and mushy. The calamari was a 3 out of 10, it was a small order, very greasy and over cooked and the marinara sauce was oddly sweet and the shark bite sauce was not to my liking. The chowder was ok nothing special. The fries were really good!! Lots of toppings and seasoned right. For the entrees, I ordered the crab stuffed shrimp with a lobster cream sauce and it comes with a side of rice and mixed sautéed zucchini. It was ok, a 3 out of 10. The shrimp were really small, the stuffing was very mushy and salty and the lobster cream sauce was a thick ribbon squeezed on top of the shrimp not a sauce. The rice was bland and the veggies were under seasoned. Dad had the fried Cod, it was the skinniest pc of cod I have ever seen and there was so much batter you couldn't find the fish and the fries were, well fries. Mom had the crab cakes, again super mushy over worked crab meat and too salty and the green sauce they put on top was not to my liking, her veggies and rice were under seasoned as well. Our daughter ordered the lobster roll with the chips. They mix Ole Bay in with their lobster meat and it doesn't say that on the menu so it was an unpleasant surprise so she swapped with hubby who order the ribs and the fried shrimp. The fried shrimp were good but the ribs were "meh"...The whole experience overall I would say was a 3 out of 10. We might try it again for some of the dishes like the lobster lasagna and the shrimp and grits...but we will have to wait a while before we do.

Fresh good taste portion size was smaller than other seafood restaurants in this area. Prices where in line with restaurants nearby.

Outstanding fish, deserts and drinks.. Nice find and good alternative to the chain restraints. Very big selection on fish as well and how they are prepared.

Solid seafood menu and wonderful staff. Stopped by based on other Yelp recommendations while I was in the area on business. As usual, the comments were very helpful. I had the crab cakes, which were the special on Thursday evening. Very "crabby" and a nice sauce with sufficient spiciness to make for a good purchase particularly at the special price. More importantly, they accommodated my request to try the coconut shrimp as an appetizer (not on the menu except as a meal). They were very good and I thought the dipping sauce was tangy and enjoyed the citrus element. The waitress, Ashlie, was very attentive and when I realized the next day that I had left my sunglasses the owner was kind enough to offer to mail them back to Austin for me. This is why I try and find small local restaurants to support when I travel. Overall, a very pleasant evening.

This is definitely hit or miss. I feel like every time I go in and order the same dish it is different. They are not consistent. I remember the first time I went I had the best chowder but every time since then it has been terrible. Overall, I like their good moments, but I have also had lots of bad.

Fantastic! Don't let the strip mall location fool you. We were seated quickly on a busy Friday night in season. Tons of food for the money. I had the Tamiami Oyster appetizer, and the crab stuffed shrimp. The fries are the best fries I have ever had! Husband had the spicy shrimp appetizer and the Reef Debris entree - clams, mussels, shrimp, crab - a lot more food than I'm used to getting at a seafood place! Only drawbacks - we were really excited about the Key Lime Creme Brûlée, but were very disappointed. It was barely "ok". Waitress was "ok" as well. Will certainly go back. Great atmosphere. Paper covered tables - with crayons and trivia pursuit cards to entertain you.

As a Maine native who has lived in Florida for the past seven years, I have sorely missed lobster and haddock. What a pleasant surprise to find a seafood restaurant that knows how to do New England seafood in Bradenton. Had the New England dinner last night that included a lobster roll that was plump full of fresh lobster. I counted four full claws in it plus other meat. It was phenomenal and was served with a cup of New England clam chowder and French fries. The price of $14.90 was easy to take when I saw the amount of lobster in the roll. I may be coming back daily! The mussels are also full and delicious. Staff is awesome as well. It's a winning combination.

Not great, not horrible. The $10 salmon special for lunch sounded like a good deal, but the broccoli was way overcooked and the salmon tasted and smelled a little too "fishy". What I did like about this place was the outside dining area where dogs are welcome. They do doggie dinners, so for $2.50 my dog got a bowl of rice and grilled chicken. The $2.00 happy hour draft was a good deal and the Peanut Butter Pie was a mountain of decadence. Service was good, especially since I was the only person dining outside (easy to forget about).

The guy at the road with the sign finally got us to stop in to the Bradenton location. WOW!! We were happily surprised. Menu was great, hard to choose from all the great selections, great specials and prices that kept my wallet happy. Garlic bread rolls they brought out were crazy good. Barking squirrel beer was a gem to find and good wine selection. Meals arrived quick and portions were perfect and prepared amazingly well. Would suggest not ordering two orders of hush puppies unless you want some for later, big portions. Johnny entertained us and was well versed in all the selections. A wonderful atmosphere to find in a location liked this, we'll be back soon and often. Not many places make us highly recommend them but this is definitely one of them! Hope you enjoy as much as we did. Added note, watch the daily specials. Wednesdays are cedar plank salmon, amazing, and Fridays are $10 bottles of wine... you'll see us there!

So wanted this to be a great fish restaurant but so disappointed. Had shrimp and grits. Shrimp was not fresh and grits gummy as if they made it days before. My husband had fried seafood plate. The scallops were so tiny the clam strips were hard threads the fish couldn't identify. Obviously everything was frozen could be so successful if they made everything fresh.

Friendly helpful service, awesome food, and decent atmosphere. My only complaint is we sat towards the back and could hear the kitchen fan, sounded like a broken helicopter. I had the ribeye salad, my husband had the shrimp rich boy, and my daughter had the chillin shrimp. Everyone was happy. Also the unsweetened tea tasted good, so many places mess up tea but there's is passible to this southern girl. The fried pickles are the best in town and the coleslaw truly tastes homemade - it even has some green cabbage instead of only the inner layers. A new family favorite.

Only OK. Had shrimp and scallops Alfredo, scallops were so tiny I was surprised. Other dish was shrimp linguine and hers was only ok also. Portions were only OK. Overall not impressed for a place that claims to be seafood joint. The meals we had were exactly like ordering seafood at say Bob Evans across the street. Not bad, not good, just OK.
