Perfect small-town diner. We stopped by for a late lunch on our way home from a trip. We both had meatloaf with mashed potatoes, cornbread, and deep-fried corn (not breaded, just cooked in a deep fryer. Shut up and try it; it's awesome.) Arcadia is a town that seems to teeter on the edge of trendy, and I hope it doesn't get too trendy, because it would be a shame to see a place like this go away. The waitress was friendly but not so much so that she annoyed us, the food was simple and good and not over seasoned or over presented. I would define it as "good food" and leave it at that. This food is not going to set the world on fire, but it's damn tasty and gets the job done. Don't pass it up if you're in the area; it's worth the stop. We did not have any of the pies, which I already regret, but if you do want pie, I'd suggest deciding before you finish eating because we watched them run out of certain slices as people ordered. Overall, I'm pleased to have eaten here and would stop in again.

Unles you''re a local, skip this place. Food was ok (nothing special) but service was poor. Problem is they have no idea their service leaves a lot to be desired..Dirty ash tray on the table, no silverware, had to ask several times for refills. If you''re passing through, eat before you get here.

Down home southern cooking, a classic old diner with walls filled with photos from Florida's "old West". It seems to me you would simply have to eat something here if you come to Arcadia. As a pretty serious healthy eater I thought I would be in trouble trying to get a breakfast here, but not so much...I ordered a Spanish omelet minus the cheese, asked for extra veggies, and got a nicely cooked, surprisingly light omelet loaded with red bell pepper, onion and tomato. After I ordered the omelet with my special requests and was balking over the side dish choices, the waitress, who by now had me figured out, suggested I could have some sliced tomatoes instead of hash browns, grits or home fries. So I manage to get a healthy meal out of what I would normally call a "greasy spoon". Cool! My husband had a western omelet with a huge pile of grits. He had no complaints. We didn't get to the pies, which are apparently all homemade and locally legendary.

Wheeler's is a small town diner. Other than the gravy being too dry, all the dishes were up to diner standards. If you're in Arcadia I recommend searching for Wheelers and as always worth searching out is 4 stars. It just so happens Wheeler's is worth the search not because they were great but, rather the competing restaurants were atrocious. I had a piece of the world famous peanut butter pie. Wheeler's takes a competent piece of chocolate or vanilla cream pie with, per the waitress, a secret recipe of peanut butter infused granulated sugar sprinkled over the meringue top. I can't see it being famous in Fort Myers, 30 miles away let alone the world but it is hard not to try with signs all over the restaurant.

Great food at a great price. Big portions of home cooked meals. Best biscuits and gravy ever! Friendly service from some pretty ladies there too. I was the only out-of-towner there it seemed as this was s locals place. Says the restaurant has been there since 1929. I'll stop again if I'm traveling through to Orlando again.

All I can say is gross. I had a BLT and they use Miracle Whip. The ranch dressing on the salad was cheap store bought stuff. I decline to eat there again.

I had the Mullet dinner for lunch, and I was not impressed at all. It had many small almost invisible but sharp bones in it and it tasted very "fishy". I had smoked mullet many times as a child growing up in Florida and I loved it then. Wheelers is an old time cafe, and there is nothing wrong with that, but since seating is very limited, I got the impression that they wanted me to hurry up and eat & leave so someone else could have my seat. They have been here since 1929 but I wonder why if my experience is typical.

Everyone knows Florida is filled with crazies, but is it from the snowbirds, immigrants or the tourists? Well the answer is it's the heat, bugs, hurricanes and a long list of other things. If you want to taste the original Florida and smell it and see it, come here.

I got THE STARE when I first walked in.... here we go again.... dread visiting these small towns. The regulars have never seen an Asian, felt like I had 2 heads. Not much competition around. This small, old diner is quaint but the prices are surprisingly high for what you get. Food is nothing special. Just the fact that the restroom is OUTSIDE, around the back will tell you what you should expect. I wondered as I sat and looked around, whether the Health Dept has ever been here. Either that or it may be a relative. Let's just say they love Duct tape. Hope I never return, but traveling the back roads of highway 17... I may get desperate.... if I do, good times to begin a Fast.

Enjoy the laid back atmosphere, good southern home style selections, breakfast omelets are great, sometimes you can get gator tail in them! Above all try some the fresh local Joshua citrus OJ, can't beat the taste!

This place is an Arcadia institution and it's been a long time since I had eaten here. If you ever want to know what an old-school diner from the south Florida of a hundred years ago, give this place a try. My mother is retirement age and she used to go here when she was a little girl and it had been around awhile then. As stated in another review, this place was originally called "Fiegler's Goody Café". Mr. Fiegler married a Ms. Wheeler and after Mr. Fiegler died, the name was changed to "Wheeler's Goody Café" and then after awhile, just "Wheelers" (if memory serves...I could be wrong about ths part). After Mrs. Wheeler retired, her family ran the place for a long time. They cashed out in the early 1990s and has been under different ownership although they have kept the "Wheeler's" name on the place. Mostly they just have good old country food here and you can still get things like collard greens and peanut butter pie. I hear the latter is quite good although I haven't had chance to try that yet myself. I hear their meatloaf is pretty good too. I had a turkey burger when I went in there and it was pretty good.

Came here with my family on the drive from disney to Naples. The perfect food stop. Arcadia has a bunch of antique shops and this delicious cafe. Half the cafe is air conditioned and the other half is a screened in porch, we had a delightful light breeze flowing through. The food was good, but the home made deserts were even better. the sides were the best, carrot raisin salad with bits of pine apple, turnip greens with house made hot sauce, creamy potato salad, very good onion rings, but we didn't really care for the french fries. We had simple BLT's and a cat fish hoagie. The peanut butter pie was very good, but I think the key lime pie was even better. We also liked the peach cobbler and fat boy cake. I would definitely come back any time.

When I read Scotts review, I thought his sides explained the rstaurant, god old southern cooking. They have a board of specials every day and they are all good. The restaurant has been open since 1929 and is definitely not to miss when visiting Arcadia. Try the sweet potato fries with cinamon butter dip. My friend drives from Miami for the pies. Alligator is good when it is a special.

Our Sunday morning breakfast run took us to Wheeler's Cafe this morning. The servings were more than we could each finish and reasonably priced (both of ate for under $20 - yay!!) Service was wonderful and delivered with a smile :) The lunch sides and deserts looked awesome, we plan on returning in the fall.

i am 75, this restaurant takes me back to when a restaurant was a restaurant, good plentiful food. the fried chicken find me better and i will pay you. throw on the corn bread and black eyed peas, and i am a country boy again. and fresh like your mother made. now the PIES, do not go unless you are going to have a large slice of one. on this your mom could not have done better. the place is over 80 years old, and is in an unique old town in the USA. you will feel so refreshed after your meal, and walk around with a big smile

This is your typical small town family owned diner. Located on a side street off the main drag in the downtown area, this no frills place has been serving up the basic diner food for generations. Red vinyl chairs and booths and a linoleum floor that hasn't been waxed in years are clues that this place is for real. Side dishes inlclude such country favorites as collard greens, fried okra, fried cabbage, and mashed potatoes. Sandwiches, burgers, and dinners are available throughout the day. There is an ample list of pies and the signs say the peanut butter pie is to die for. I couldn't resist and now I agree. Formerly known as Fiegel's Goody Cafe, I would rather support this type of place than the ubiquitous fast food chain any day.
