I had a really good time here. Dinner on a Saturday night had a very reasonable waiting time, very friendly waitress, and great sushi. I got the Green Caterpillar roll which I was incredibly satisfied with! However, was not impressed with the second roll. I got the Double Fantasy roll whose star ingredients were peppered tuna and lobster. Unfortunately, at $18 I wish I could've actually tasted the lobster (the pepper was extremely overpowering). In spite of this it was still a very tasty roll. Everything was very fresh including the rice and the ginger. They also brought out fresh wasabi, along with the usual paste, which was a nice and unique touch. I enjoyed the ambiance and the decor. It was packed when I got there -- clearly a very trendy spot, though unfortunately incredibly loud. I have to say I really enjoyed the strawberry mochi for dessert. I had never had mochi before, but the fresh and vivid strawberry flavor was awesome. I would highly recommend it if you're thinking about dessert.

My girlfriend and I went to happy hour a couple weeks back and am sad to say I was disappointed. I have frequented the restaurant and gone to two sushi making classes, but think the place needs a remodel. First the bartender's black thong was exposed. The staff huddled in a corner and did not come over to ask if everything was ok. My friend's plate was missing ginger and the hairy Mexican sauce was scarce. I was overwhelmed by the drink menu and think a smaller menu would encourage me to try something new. After eating half of our "happy hour" meal the waitress refused us a box due to company policy. The policy was not listed on the menu and after talking to he manager he reluctantly gave us a box. I prefer to go out to eat without suffering from a stomach ache. I think it is ridiculous to throw out food I pay for. At this point I left angry. In my opinion the owner should give attractive to go boxes so I can take my leftovers to work and promote the great dining experience. I will not be returning to Mikimotos until the company reinvents itself. Although the food it good, but the whole experience is makes going out appealing.

Sushi is more or less a constant craving in my life. Mikimotos gets the job done and is probably one of the better sushi options in Delaware, but it's not the most fabulous sushi I've ever had. On one of my first visits, I asked the waitress for recommendations and learned there's several off-menu rolls that are actually delicious --- namely the Broad Roll (which may also be called the Brad roll; I've heard it called both by various staff members...). The Broad roll involves spicy tuna within the roll, crab on top, and several tasty sauces and is by far my favorite roll at Mikimotos. The Hairy Mexican is a solid option as well and involves shrimp tempura for an added crunch. I do feel like this place has a lot more cooked options than I'm used to, which could be why I don't always rave about it --- I tend to gravitate toward the rolls with raw salmon or tuna. That being said, the available raw options do taste fresh. This place can get packed, particularly on the weekends, so it can be helpful to have a reservation sometimes. Also, they have a small parking lot that is shared with nearby restaurants and therefore fills quickly, so I would plan on street parking and hope to be nicely surprised by an open spot in the lot.

Dined here with some good friends, not bad, but it's not the best either. Space between table a bit cramped, didn't make sense when the place wasn't that busy. Perhaps they are busier other weekends. Menu offered the usual selections and a couple that were novel, will try again.

Creative, delicious and filling rolls. The baby octopus and duck quesadilla appetizers are incredible, and overall I've never had a meal at Mikimotos that I didn't love. Great ambiance in the restaurant, and usually the service is pretty quick.

Being very close to my work place is the sole reason why I go there. Food is not bad but its not great either. Wait time and super slow service specially during lunch makes it difficult to appreciate. Not many vegetarian options to try on multiple visits but for once or twice its decent enough.

Ordered the zen tofu dish, presentation was good but taste was only okay. Tofu was good but wasn't a big fan of the sauce itself. Waiters are very friendly, pleasantly smiling and seem to all get along with each other pretty good. So thumbs up for the service but not so much the taste of the food.

Not the best sushi I've had, not the worst. Their most popular roll is the Hairy Mexican and personally, I love it and order it every time. I also usually get the spicy tuna which never disappoints. However, anytime I've strayed from my standard order, I haven't been very impressed. Although, I must say, Mikimotos does deliver on dessert! The Oreo cheesecake spring rolls are a must order and last night I split the tempura brownie with some friends and.. Wow! All in all, it's a decent spot for Wilmington, but stick to the basics and if you're looking for great sushi head to Philly or Masamoto, a BYO on 202.

The pad Thai, Hairy Mexican roll and tempura battered deep fried brownie sundae with coffee ice cream are sooooo yummy! Order them and you will be pleased! Sadly, Mikimotos is not as good as it used to be 5-10 years ago. The last two times I dined-in (roughly less than 1 month ago and again last week) the service was not good. During both recent visits, the servers took a very long time (more than 10 minutes) to greet my group/get drink orders after we were seated. One of the two times our food came before cocktails because the server kept forgetting to bring the cocktails to the table (she blamed the bartender). The other of the two times, we had just received our food and the server asked for me to pay the bill because she thought the restaurant might lose power on account of a pending storm (ok, but what about dessert or additional beverages?). The restaurant did not lose power and we did not see the server again after the bill was paid. Also, in June, I went in to pick up take out for a friend's party and the bartenders seemed preoccupied, as I stood at the bar feeling ignored for several minutes before anyone acknowledged my existence. The two working were deep in conversation on a slow Saturday afternoon. Another negative is that the restaurant is crammed and dim inside.

RJ met me here for lunch last Tuesday. He had Sunomono which is cucumber, wakame seaweed salad, with crab, octopus, shrimp, and whitefish, I had the Mikimotos Special Crab Salad with seaweed and crab, and we shared lobster dumplings, the Spider, the Hairy Mexican, and the Chesapeake. The lobster dumplings were really good, with large chunks of lobster and a sauce that tasted like seafood bisque. The salads were amazing, so fresh and crisp and delicious. The sushi was excellent as usual, and we had to ask for a box because there was so much we couldn't finish. Service was a little slow, and we never got drink refills that we desperately needed. It took forever to get the check and RJ needed to get back to work. If not for the service this would be a 5.

Very delicious and fresh :-) I'm a bit picky with sushi since it is my favorite dinner choice and I also always go for sashimi, which can be a hit or miss with some destinations ! But we ordered the chefs election- HUGE assortment, very fresh, and super scrumptious :-) the service was great, beautiful and cute ambiance, and I would definitely go back ! Enjoy ;)

A good lunch place. I usually order sashimi supreme. Pricey but satisfying. A couple of suggestions: don't put imitation crab on a $38 sashimi plate; and do make sure you don't run out of hot sake every other day. I mean, c'mon...

  • GoBlue G.

Loved the Sushi and Sashimi. Tasteful, fresh & perfectly chilled. Tried the Sake, all I can say is it's very good. The mushroom undertones from the fermented rice is rather good. Bartenders we quite helpful with instructions on Sake and took care of us for this was our first time there! We had a really good vibe from the place, seemed everyone was enjoying their time there! We will be back!

3 stars???? i love it here....can't find sushi as good and consistent in the area. Pocono Mountain and Hairy Mexican rolls are a must try.

This review will be based upon four factors I think validate the 3 star review. (1) parking is bad. (2) the bartenders. We sat and waited for a good 5+ minutes before one of the two bartenders came to give us a menu. If this wasn't bad enough, we ordered 4 rolls. 1 was completely different than the one ordered. Granted they offered to replace it, but the place wasn't that busy at all so that's an avoidable mistake. (3) happy hour has no drink special! This completely surprised me and is absurd. (4) this is why I gave them 3 stars, the sushi was phenomenal. It more than made up for the extremely slow service to get drinks. If you are looking for tasty sushi, this is the place. However they need to step up the game for serving patrons faster and to add drink specials as well.

I did not realize a sushi place could be this bad. My friend and I enjoy going to different sushi places and Mikimotos was the worst we have been to so far. We started with the duck quesadilla which was WAY too cheesy and not tasty in any way. We also both got the Supreme Sushi platter. The salmon, tuna, and white tuna weren't bad. The eel was pretty good but it's hard to go wrong with eel. The worst sushi piece; Cajun seared tuna... what the hell... I had to spit it out... I would honestly rather eat grocery store sushi than Mikimotos. Their spicy tuna is just a regular tuna roll with "spicy mayo" on top? Out of the 15+ sushi places I've been to nobody did this. The reason I put that in quotes is because the mayo was not spicy at all. Nothing to comment on about service, I don't really care about service. I just want good sushi. Pros: Decent ambiance & decor (lighting is very uneven... Bright lights shining down directly on tables) Cons: Way overpriced Quality of food is very low

I had the bento box with yellow curry chicken. Man, they don't even know what a California roll is ! California roll with no crab meat just plain avocado and cucumbers. Overpriced and crap

I'm from NY and have been in DE for only 7months. In the first few months was dying for some good sushi, some good food period actually! I stumbled across Mikimotos and never looked back! Best sushi spot in DE! Fresh and delicious...two thumbs up!

I've been here three times now and it has been great all three times, which is saying a lot considering this is my only positive experience with sushi on the East Coast. West coast sushi is BOMB. The first time I had actually intended to go next door but after being ignored for 20 min I decided to check out Mikimotos. Best decision ever. The greatest part was the manager from next door came over to apologize, talked to the sushi chef, and they hooked us up with lots of free and delicious sushi and sashimi. So nice! My favorite roll is the Hairy Mexican but everything so far has been delicious. Order the Bangkok Calamari - the sauce is perfect. Service is prompt and everyone is really welcoming.

One of my favorite sushi places in the wilmington area. Sushi was extremely fresh and services was excellent. I highly recommend the chef's choice as it gives you a great variety of sashmi and sushi (69$ for 2). I was more than full afterwards. Place is a bit spicy but I would recommend it for a special occasions. Definitely cheaper options in the area if you just need to get your sushi fix.

  • Dan B.

I used to go to Miki's all the time when I wanted my sushi fix, I loved the hairy Mexican roll and always had a good time. That's why I'm sad to say the last time I went here I felt very I'll after having some sushi rolls. Honestly, one bad dinner doesn't usually change my opinion when I eat at a place regularly, but I don't mess with bad sushi.

I had to give 3 stars for two major reasons: the rolls are small and the prices are high. Otherwise it's a great restaurant. Great variety, unique dining room, it gives a Japanese sports bar vibe. Definitely worth checking out

I came here for dinner on Monday, place was pretty filled up but we still got seated immediately. I got the baby spinach salad which comes with this warm sherry vinaigrette dressing. Get the dressing on the side. The salad was pretty big and came with plenty of avocado (loveee). I also got the salmon avocado sushi roll. Decent amount of salmon. It was pretty fresh. Service is super friendly! Come here for the sushi! If you don't like sushi I'd recommend going somewhere else.

Came in with two friends, food was alright. I don't know, the non-sushi appetizers seemed kinda re-heated to be honest. The sushi was good, but I'm not a big raw fish guy, so I was planning on eating more of the cooked appetizers and they weren't that great. We got some sake though, that was good, and our server was very sweet and attentive and provided great service. I gotta say though, definitely over-priced for the quality. I'll maybe give it another chance.

I have gone to this place for over a decade. At least once a week. As the prices increase dramatically the quality and service have taken a dive. Very sad. Hope they pull it together.

Came here on a Saturday night and the restaurant has a great ambiance. Perfect for date night. On this night they had someone banging on the door trying to fix it which was super loud and disruptive. It would've been smart if they did that before the establishment opened right?! Anyway, the service was terrible. It took her a long time in between to come back to us to take our order. We asked for soy sauce which she forgot to bring back to us so we had to ask the hostess to get us some. As for the food, I ordered the pocono mountain roll and it ended up being a deconstructed roll which they don't state that on the menu. This is not what I wanted so they took it back and I stuck to the basics this time and got the spicy tuna roll. This roll was disappointing. It was just ok and not spicy at all. The "spice" consisted of spicy mayo on top of the roll. I also had the miso soup which was pretty good. The best thing I had here was the fried ice cream. Delicious! It was fried vanilla bean ice cream and I substituted chocolate syrup with caramel syrup. Yum! Overall, I've had better sushi for way less money!

You like sushi? You like speciality rolls? You like friggen delicious dessert? Look no further. Mikimotos has it all. Tonight I ordered the the sashimi supreme which allowed the chef to choose the menu. Amazing! Everything was fresh with great flavors. I tried 8 different types of sashimi. The Asian seared tuna was a standout but please note the salmon, crab, eel and tuna ones were spot on too. What you basically need to know is you need to save room for the cheesecake ores eggrolls. No dessert in the world is better than this one. I dare you to order the cheesecake eggrolls first. No disappointments at all.

Food's good, my fav is the Hairy Mexican which, fortunately, is on the 2-for-1 happy hour menu! Have to say though that I HATE, HATE, HATE what they did to the room right off the bar. They replaced all the high top tables with VERY low, uncomfortable couches & covered the windows with room darkening drapes. So seating is limited, unless you don't mind sharing a couch with strangers and it feels like you're in a cave...not a good 'redesign' on their part! (did I mention that I HATE the new 'decor'?!)

I had just stepped off the train in Wilmington on Friday, 07/25 and I was starving. My brother-in-law and sister asked what I was in the mood for, and I immediately responded, "Sushi". So off we went to Mikimoto's. We have been here before in the past (about two or three times since it opened), and each time, we were very happy with what we ordered. The service tends to be a bit spotty here and there, but the overall attitude of the servers is cheerful without being in-your-face, and they make sure they get your order right by repeating everything you tell them, so that's a plus. I know a lot of people are down on the decor in this restaurant, but I think it adds to its charm. It has a sort of upscale sports bar/nightclub feel to it, with low lighting, intimate seating, and dance music pumping at the appropriate volume. For our appetizers, we ordered the crab rangoon, which was delicious. The outside was crispy and crunchy, and the inside was stuffed with tender crab meat. We also ordered drinks with our meals: my brother-in-law ordered a beer, my sister asked for The Lemon Song, and I had the Sail Away martini. Here's where I have to detract a star: the drink, although it was mixed well and had sweet fruity undertones of pear and lemon, was a bit strong, and I developed a headache not long after we finished our dinner. My brother-in-law also got a headache from his beer, so either the amount of alcohol in Mikimoto's drinks is insanely high, or we're a bunch of milktoasts who can't handle our liquor. Next time, I'll stick to wine. Our server Mike gave us all extra glasses of water along with our mixed drinks though, which was nice of him. Oh, and he's also on my list of "bestest friends ever" for carding me two days after my 32nd birthday. :-) Thanks Mike! For our main courses, I had the Green Caterpillar roll and Sunrise roll. I've had the Green Caterpillar before in my previous visits to Mikimoto's, and I have yet to encounter avocado as creamy and fresh as it's served here. The eel was perfectly cooked, and was mixed with just the right amount of cream cheese. This is a must-have for anyone who's a fan of eel. The Sunrise roll is also awesome: salmon and asparagus on the inside with snow crab meat and masago on top, served in a light spicy mayo. Words fail me in describing just how delectable this roll is. If you like crab meat and salmon and want something with an extra kick, please try this roll. You will not be disappointed. I sampled one of my sister's rolls (she had the Tropicana roll) and that was also excellent: salmon with avocado, topped with masago, mixed with scallions, and tempura frick (?). Not sure what frick is, but it's frickin' good, I can tell you that much. She also had two pieces of Ikura sushi and plain salmon sushi. I didn't try to sample what my brother-in-law ordered because I was too full, but he enjoyed his rolls very much: The Sloppy Joe, Mikimoto, and Malay. The Malay had sea bass in it, which I love, so maybe I'll try that one the next time I come here. Oh yes, there will be a next time. Trust and believe that.

Love it! The vibe is great once you just walk in. The sushi makes you want to come back all the time plus they offer sushi 101 classes that are very fun and interesting. The drinks are even exciting. Overall i would recommend this place for a date, bus. meeting, lunch with friends, dinner with a few people but not with kids.

Stopped in recently for lunch and ordered the noodle salad. It was very tasty but wasn't really what I was expecting - it had lettuce, peanuts, a chili vinaigrette and plenty of noodles on top! Overall I was satisfied with the salad and my one comment would be that the noodles were a little dry, perhaps thy were not cooked enough or soaked long enough to absorb more liquid. The prices of the lunch menu were extremely reasonable and they had a sizable crowd around 1pm so I would be interested in trying other items from the menu to see if I enjoyed them more. Overall I would say the meal was good for the price and our server was attentive and pleasant!

Love the vast variety of sushi rolls at this place. My favorites are the crazy tuna roll, hairy Mexican, the Kraken, Motos Roll, and the firecracker. Follow it up with the cheesecake spring rolls with caramel dipping sauce for dessert - one word - Delicious! Try the Blood and Fire cocktail -made with Jalapeño infused Tequila - very hot but soooo delicious! Service is great. Can't wait to return

Love Mikimotos and their food, but had a very bad experience when i made a reservation about a week before the date. I then call later in the week to confirm the reservation and i'm accused of lying that i never had a reservation in the first place. I was told that they could find my name and then the manager accused me of lying about having one in the first place. Really disgusted by this and will not be going to Mikimotos anytime soon.

The sushi is fine. Nothing else is. The room is noisy, filled with drunk 20-somethings laughing like hyenas about God knows what. The service is slow and snooty. There is music blasting from the sound system, which the wait staff claim the owner will not allow them to turn down. They say he likes the place to have "a big vibe." Well the owner can keep his vibe and I'll get my sushi at Okura or Sumo.

UN F U * K I N G believable! $8.00 for a stupid Avocado roll? Are you kidding me? Who does this place think they are? Extremely WAY overpriced sushi for the 3rd most crime ridden city in the country! Wtf, their sushi isn't that good and their rolls are small. Lower your prices you snobs!

Well never in all of my years and I mean over 14 years living in Wilmington have I ever been so disappointed in the service I received from this establishment on Friday, May 8, 2015 between 9-10 pm, I was utterly embarrassed and felt as if there was no concern in the world by the staff by being singled out and racial discriminated and profiled against all in one sitting, in the capacity of today's society for another ethnicity to be called "YOU PEOPLE" is just unacceptable and all over asking the bartender Kellie if one of the staff members who were engaging with her at the bar eating a plate of calamari in front of a bar area full of dining and paying customers if they could just be sure to wash their hands before serving my guest and I food to us. Yet instead of obliging and apologizing she continued to make matters worse by being rude, coming over to us while my guest and I were completely engaged in conversation and saying to my guest did she have a problem or something to say to her as if we are not allowed to carry a general conversation amongst us as paying customers, then when she realized that we were not going to give her the benefit of the doubt and said that the way she handled the situation was unprofessional she proceeds telling my guest she needs to leave the bar because she (Kellie) runs it, and then at a lost for words decided to categorize us as "YOU PEOPLE" her exact words single us out amongst all the patrons in the restaurant and continue yelling at us that "YOU PEOPLE" come in all the time and none of the staff likes waiting on yall and that yall are always are trying to get food discounted or free even stated that the night before I had came in which was not to be true and created a big commotion as if to gain kudo points by the rest of her colleagues at the bar. So we decided that we would not let that hinder us eating our wonderful food that was sitting in front of us. But to make matters even worse is when the manager (Lauren) was called for us to speak with, as she approached us already with hesitant intentions we begin explaining she was clutching her pearls and in awe as she continued to apologize for the misconduct, in professionalism and ignorance of her staff members, so with now knowing everything that happened Lauren stated that it was completely embarrassing and unacceptable and deemed she would handle the situation immediately, to me she seemed very sympathetic to our situation so I assured my guest that she would handle things accordingly as she led me to believe. We assured Lauren this would not be our last time patronizing the restaurant because it is one of our favorites and we stated we just wanted to enjoy our great meals and we just thought she should know what happened so it wouldn't happen again. So she obliged and walked off saying she was going to let us finish our food and enjoy the rest of our experience and she hopes that incident wouldn't hinder us from coming back. So maybe about 30-45 minutes had past and we were all finished not only after asking for the tab around 10:45 pm and to our surprise there still was one in full, which wasn't an issue but to not even come back and check on us, take any information as little as a name, contact info or anything as if this wasn't a serious issue nor as a manager at the very least have the employee involved come and apologize I just felt like where did all the compassion and sympathy that she (Lauren) had when talking to us about the situation go. To sit the whole time after we received our food, talked to the manager, and being put through all that have to sit and see and hear the other staff members involved walking past giving us side eyes and sitting in the back by the sushi bar talking about what happened as if we couldn't hear not see them. This was the most traumatic and worse experience I have ever had to deal with in all my years of living and dining in Wilmington and I don't think it should go unheard nor taken care of so the next patron or patrons won't have to go through what I did. It was an embarrassment to say the least and a poor example of excellent customer service and proper managerial due diligence. Please know this is unacceptable

A solid 3-3.5 star dining experience. We had two of the veggie sushi rolls, spicy wrinkled green beans, miso soup and the lettuce wraps. The waitress was quite attentive in filling up our waters and asking if we needed anything else, but forgot about the soup. The lettuce wraps while tastly should have had a diced mixture instead of 'chunks' as they are more difficult to keep in the wrap (a la PF Changs). We liked the atmosphere and the reasonable volume of the music. Though we were disappointed that the pot of tea had one tea bag and not some loose tea. The pad thai looked good but we couldn't justify the $20 item since we would have had it with just tofu. Maybe coming up with a cheaper version with just tofu or even a vegetarian menu would be nice Everything was very tasty and we would try it again.

This was day 2 of Restaurant Week in Wilmington so I decided to check this place out, based on their menu. A good reason to try new places during restaurant week is because they want to show off their food and the price is a flat fee $15 for 2 (desent size) courses for lunch and for dinner $35 for 3 courses. The decor is really nice, relaxing. It's a little too low lit for me but it has a nice flow. Their place settings were nice. I brought my own chop sticks but they had a pair at each table (along with typical utensils.) For the 1st course I ordered, Crispy Shrimp Wontons - tropical mango salsa, jicama, avocado topped with a little bit of sirarcha. They weren't folded like typical wontons. But all the toppings stayed on the wonton. They were good...the sriracha was a nice addition but wasn't essential to the dish. For my 2nd course I ordered; Chilean Sea Bass Bento Box; teriyaki, shrimp & snowy chicken pot stickers, 4 piece California roll and some seaweed slaw. I thought it was pretty good. I like the bento box itself; it was heavy. I picked it up and brought it to another table that had better light, so I could get a good shot of it. The sauce they had covering the bass was, almost, a little too much. But I used it to dip my pot stickers into. I don't know how authentic this place is but the food was still good. The rice was a bit much and it wasn't even that good of rice. But the pickled ginger and wassabi were good. I'm not sure about all these 2 star ratings but then again, I'm not really into sushi. Based on my experience, I would eat here again. Oh and my waitress was good. She informed me about upcoming events and they offer a sushi making class. I left a nice tip because was sweet and her previous table were a bunch of loud, cheap, curing (when she wasn't around) bunch. I don't think they were regulars put it that way.

Mediocre sushi. You are better off trying things from the more 'fusion' section of the menu. I was expecting a lot more from the reputation and location of this restaurant. Our nearby hotel recommended it to us. The place was practically empty on a Saturday afternoon, which is why it was weird that our food took a long time to come. Decent miso soup, disappointing seaweed salad (no crunch), and bland sushi. We had a bunch of rolls, including the West Coast combo, and the fish just didn't have the buttery, smooth quality we were expecting. The highlight of the meal was actually my tofu lettuce wraps which were super flavorful. My lettuce 'cups' were a bit too wilted to make any good, tight, wraps, but the tofu and water chestnuts were filling and really hit the spot. Wouldn't go back.

We had heard a lot of good things about this place, so we figured we'd check it out. However, we were pretty disappointed. The sushi tasted extremely salty and cheap. It's overpriced for the quality. We won't be going back.

Not many good places to eat in downtown but this is one of them. The sushi is good and fresh. The presentation is nice for small medium and large plates. If you have a big enough group get the boat it's pretty cool. Dessert? Tempura battered brownie with ice cream on top let your inner fat kid out for one night.

This is one of my favorite Sushi Bars. Very good Sushi. Good service! My favorite roll has to be the hairy Mexican. Also the oreo cheese cake spring rolls are to die for! Come for happy hour from 4-6 Monday-Friday to get two for one rolls. That is the best value!

I love this place! The food is consistent and good! I go a few times a month. My favorite is happy hour when you can get certain rolls for buy one get one!

If you're willing to spend a little extra for dinner, this is a great place to go. The ambiance is unique, decorated with large anime stills, notably a wall dedicated to Speed Racer. If you're going on a weekend, I highly recommend making reservations. For the food, the sushi is always fresh and tasty. I have not ordered anything aside from sushi and pad-thai, but both were well-prepared and enjoyable. If you only get one thing on the menu, splurge on desert and order the Oreo-Cheesecake Spring Roll. If I had to choose a last meal, this dessert would surely be on the menu.

The food is decent and the service is good depending on who is there. I generally come here when I am in town and get some sushi. The food is consistent and has always been fresh. The management is another thing as an example today I order the same dish I normally order which is the sushi/sashimi combo and replace the roll with something lighter (cheaper). I do not expect the price to change and I would be fine with a substitution charge but today I was told by no exception and could only add to the dish and not substitute. This is strange as I substituted last week.

I ate at Mikimotos tonight and have to say I dealt with the outmost rudest/ snottiest staff. I walk in and sit at the bar tables. I was accompanied by two friends. One was a girl that was underage - we proceed to sit there ( not knowing we couldn't sit there because at most restaurants you still can). I was greeted with a blunt/ no smile and no hello. I only receive :can I see your IDS. We reply saying sorry we didn't know. The waitress does not ask us if we would like to be seated somewhere else, she rudely walks away. We then go to the host (a blonde) also incredibly rude and responds to us with oh I guess you want a seat now? I honestly should have just left. I have never complained at a restaurant but this time I wanted to say something and also complain after I payed because I was not trying to get any discounts because the food was great. I ask for the manager and I am mortified when the woman walking over to me was the rude waitress who first helped me over at the bar tables. Terrible experience.

when i stepped into mikimoto, this place was HOPPING! I was very excited after seeing a huge crowd at the spot and remixes playing in the background in a very trendy environment. So anywayz, the best choice we made that night was getting the sampler which consists of 2 appetizer dishes and 2 half rolls (3 pieces from each roll) for $15 dollars. The calamari was delicious and mouth-watering. However, the chicken strips with bbq sauce was more on the average side.... the sushi does have limited choices... please pick the "California dream"~ my favorite roll of the whole night! a big slop of chopped salmon on top of a california roll, it catered to my taste buds perfectly. we picked the "Malay" for the 2 half and.. that was so-so, it was avg tasting, nothing special to mention. besides the bento sampler, we ordered the "Miami Heat", "Hairy Mexican, and uni sushi. The miami heat is SPICY! no joke, it burned my gums afterwards... so be prepared.. so i fiind that the miami heat tasted better without the soy sauce.. so you can actually enjoy the fresh flavor of the fish. "Hairy Mexican" is one of the most popular rolls at Mikimoto's... I was so disappointed with it~ there was absolutely nothing special about it.. it's simply an overrated choice~ i also ordered the "Hello Kitty Martini" loved it! a fellow fan for the japanese icon and an alcoholic drinker~ what can be better than this combo, it's super sweet with strawberry flavor and it goes down super smooth for those immature drinkers. i felt young at heart drinking this b/c it was extra weak and it felt like i was drinking really good jungle juice at a house party. lol i enjoyed it so overall, i was super pleased with the first course.. then the 2nd plate was a huge let down.. but mikimoto does have good quality for fish. it just needs better recipes and engineering.

I would actually give this place a 3.5 out of 5. It is a good place for sushi. Fresh MOST of the time. Been going there for lunch on Fridays for the past five years and a few dinners. Very expensive for what you get. Nice atmosphere. One of the better sushi spots in Wilmington at the moment.

If you are looking for a "white-washed" Japanese restaurant, you have found the place! I have eaten at too many Japanese restaurants and I know Japanese food. This place is not authentic at all. Maybe I am being too harsh and this is more of a "fusion" type but when a restaurant has the word "Japanese restaurant" written on it, I expect "Japanese" food. The food here is sub-par and the sushi rice is too soft for my taste. I am guessing they probably add too much water in their sushi rice. Few funny things happened while eating at the restaurant. 1. I ordered "Hamachi" and the waiter was like "what?", maybe I should have said "yellow tail". 2. They serve you a spoon with their miso soup... On top of all this, this place is over-priced. But on the plus side, this place have a nice ambience and it is "trendy". The service here is excellent and this place is extremely clean. So if you want to come here for the "experience" and not the food, this place may be for you. Overall if you think PF Chang or Panda Express is good "Chinese" food, then this is the place for you. If you want authentic Japanese food, this is not the place.

I'm from Chicago and coming to the East Coast was pretty exciting cuz I think East Coast, i would think, would have excellent seafood. I'm a person who loves sushi - i've moved on from americanized makis and now i prefer traditional sushi and more of nigiris and sashimis. Anyway we were staying w/ some friends in Wilmington, DE. I was craving sushi so we headed over to Mikimotos, as we were advised that the sushi is pretty good. Upon arriving, the place looked good. Nice exterior and logo. Going inside, for a party of 5 on a Friday night, we were advised on a half-hour wait. We thought why not we can get a couple of drinks while we wait. While chillin at the bar, I noticed the decor - a bunch of animes on the wall, anime playing on the TVs over the sushi bar, and various sports on the TVs above the bar. As we were waiting for our tables we noticed tables opening up. Then more tables were opening up. They didn't seat us at these tables even though they could have pushed the table foor 4 and 2 together to sit our party of five. Upon inquiring the hostesses, they said they couldnn't do that because it's a fire hazard. =T Finally we were offered to sit on the couches; it fit our party of five, only because we converted the ottoman that held a lamp into the final seat for the last person in our group. Le sigh. Thank God the service was decent. Too bad the coffee table which became our dining table was not equipped with the utensils, soy sauce dishes, etc. Le sigh again! We had to keep asking for these as the night went along. On to the menu and the food. I was trying to figure out if this was a true Japanese restaurant. Alas the menu, although extensive, had other dishes from China, from Thailand, and of course Japan. So i figured it's not 100% authentic and from there my expectations were not that high. Looking at the menu, I was apalled at the prices. $8 for edamame? WTF? In Wilmington Delware? Wow. Typical rolls that would usually be 7 bucks anywhere else were closer to 10 bucks and up. Lots of cooked rolls (boo), "market price" for toro was $16 bucks (no way i was gonna pay for that esp since i didn't know , yet, the quality of their fish), and they really did not have that much variety in their nigiri/sashimi offerings. The roll that I got, was not memorable. I even forgot its name. All I know is, it had 3 kinds of fish on it, but was not that good, flavorwise. It could have used something else, I don't know what. The fish, at least, was not stale, did not leave a bad taste in my mouth... but it just lacked flavor. Maybe the quality of the fish wasn't the best. Some of the best cuts of fish just have this awesome taste. Sorry did not find that in my roll. =( And the roll I picked wasn't overly americanized. In fact the reason I chose it was because it was simple. I wanted to taste the fish. Unfortunately it did not deliver. Because of the overpriced nigiri/sashimi (probably about 8 bucks for 2 pieces of nigiri, slightly bigger slices for sashimi) - we only ordered a couple - sake and escolar. The escolar was OK, not the best i've had. The sake was... meh. I guess once once you're tasted salmon belly sashimi, you'll never go back. The dessert was OK. The creme brulee (in a Japanese restaurant? yeah weird) was pretty good but got overwhelming in the end. Um. Yes. Overpriced. Not 100% Japanese, roll quality is not the caliber you'd expect for the price you're paying. I wouldn't seek this restaurant out if I ever came back to Wilmington.

First time I came here, we just hung around at the bar. I ordered a vegetable tempura and thought it was pretty decent. A little on the oily side for tempura. Went well with my Sapporo. I went one more time for dinner with 2 friends and had a pretty good meal with good service. Waiter was attentive but not overbearing. We had the Cowboy Yakatori to start which was good, but I wasn't a big fan of the beef itself. I got the Thai Paella which was yummy. I forget which dishes the other 2 ordered but they were good too. Overall, not amazed, but pretty good food with good portion sizes. Probably not the best bang for your buck. I'm more at a 3.5-4 than a solid 4.

To sum it up, trendy atmosphere....mediocre food. I am currently traveling to Wilmington for work and since Mikimoto's is walking distance from my hotel, I decided to check it out. Considering it was a frigid Monday night, I was suprised to find a packed house! All the spots in the bar area were taken and a majority of the dining area was filled. The decor is pretty trendy and I can see this being a nice date spot (low lighting and good house music in the background). They have a diverse drink menu and some gems on tap. I tried the Smuttynose Winter Ale which was DELICIOUS! For dinner, I went with the Bento Box sampler (see pic). You can choose two appetizers and two rolls for 15 dollars. The choices are limited and you can't substitute. I got the dumplings and edamame as my appetizer and the Crunchy Spicy Tuna and California Dream for my rolls. The rolls are half portion so you are only getting 6 rolls total. I wasn't impressed with either of the rolls. The dumplings were very greasy and tasted like they had been frozen. The edamame was a huge disappointment. They were boderline cold and no sea salt! Sea salt is the best part! I'm a small lady and I tend to eat small portions but I was able to finish the entire box and a beer and I was still hungry. This seems to be a good spot for drinks at the bar but I wouldn't get my hopes high for the food.

I'm new to town and work at Wilmington hospital and Mikimoto's is right across the street from it, so I checked it out one day after work w/ a friend. The decor is nice, dim lighting, and organized...a nice place for a first date or to bring out-of-state friends. It was happy hour 4-6pm and they have a deal for 2 rolls for price of the higher one. Service was ok, the waitress was sort of weird. Rolls came out after 10 mins. I asked my waitress for some duck sauce or any sweet/sour sauce and she said they only have their sweet mango sauce, i said sure. I also asked for some siracha sauce. Well, when i got my bill, she charged me for siracha sauce and the sweet/sour sauce which is insane b/c every asian restaurant i've ever been to has these condiments on the table or they provide it for free! it's like charging for ketchup...it's insane. The rolls were pretty good, i tried the hairy mexican and the fried bass roll, they were so good! I think the prices are overpriced and won't come back unless they have their happy hour deal, or else it's just not worth it. Especially since there's a tokyo express in Newark that has fresh rolls for CHEAP!!! Also, both times I've been to Mikimotos, there were sharp nails sticking out of their chairs..once in their restaurant seating chair and second when i was sitting at their high stools in the lounge area. I notified my waiter both times. So be careful when you sit down. OVERALL: good sushi, but POOR service. Establishment needs to hire experienced, hospitable waiters. All of the waiters look and act very inexperienced teens

Been here many times for happy hour and last week, I discovered they changed the HH times from 5-7pm to 4-6pm! Missed the HH b/c met friends there at 6pm, but their sushi prices aren't too expensive to begin with. Be sure to get there early though b/c there's always a line for HH... and their parking lot is always filled up by 5:30. Still a fan nonetheless. This is the "Olive Garden" Equivalent of the Sushi World in Delaware. Hostess and Waitress were very young, inexperienced and slow. Nice ladies just showed their inexperience without even realizing it. Lots and LOTS of rolls on the menu, as one reviewer before me mentioned...lots of cooked fish. A touch disappointing. Seemed that everything that had a spicy sauce on it had the SAME spicy sauce on it. We ordered a variety of appetizers and sushi rolls. Everything just simply tasted the same. No contrast in texture, taste, heat level. Many of the fishes that were to be raw where very very warm. It just wasn't good. It was simply OK. And for the normal price of sushi, this just wasn't acceptable in my book. Will not return. Would rather never have sushi again.

Once again close to my work and probably the only Sushi place within walking distance from my office. Honestly I have had better Sushi. I am extremely critical of Sushi due to the price. If I am going to pay $17-20 for a roll..it better be worth it. Honestly it isn't worth it at all. Great place for a social hang out but the food is decent.

Ok, so I am sitting in this trendy place, having finished my dinner. my take on this is this is an American restaurant that serves Japanese food, sort of. The food is ok- I ordered sunomono and the yellow tails was fantastic, but the presentation was odd and lacked variety. The Bento box was OK as well, a good value, but the service is not good. I am writing this here- no offer of dessert-wine coffee etc just waiting for the check-- or someone... What's with that? A restaurant should be so good that a single business diner should not be able to write a review like this while he is waiting for someone to stop by- wait that's odd- there are two cute hostesses- and plenty of waitstaff at the bar

My first experience with this place was a delivery. No, they dont deliver to EVERYONE but the owners have a contract set up with my job so they deliver there. Probably because its just a block away. Anyways, I ordered a hot entree (Drunken General's Chicken) and 2 rolls. The entree size was plentiful and quite tasty. The problem was that they put my uncooked sushi rolls on top of my steaming hot entree resulting in warm sushi. I wasnt very happy about that. Didnt get to eat my rolls. Complained to the manager. He said I could get a comp roll the next time. Mentioned it and no one knew what I was talking about. Figures. Even after this I decided to give the place another go. Im a sushi fan. I went NYE with a friend as a quick stop before heading out for the evening. It was relatively early but was still packed. The hostess asked us if we had reservations. When we told her no, the level of service greatly diminished. Jerk wad. We ended up sitting at the sushi bar. Not a bad spot. Our waitress was a bit terse but I let it slide because it was a busy evening. I work in hospitality so I know how it can get. She wasnt exactly rude but she wasnt overly helpful. Our food came quickly. Bonus points for the kitchen staff not being fussy about me requesting all of my rolls sans avocado. Honestly, I didnt choose to have allergies and I hate when restaurant staff tantrums because I CANT eat somthing. We had to flag down our waitress a few times...even when it was time to pay. The service here leaves a bit to be desired and it is a bit pricey. If I could I'd give 2.5 stars. The ambiance is nice and the food is tasty. However, if given an ultimate choice, Id probably just go to Kooma or Jasmine.

Good, fresh sushi though a bit expensive. Had the Hairy Mexican and spicy tuna rolls, and the Wilmington roll, among others--all were tasty. They do a good bento box deal at lunchtime too. Always very crowded--difficult to get in especially on a Fri. or Sat. night, just as an FYI. We've had to wait before and the bar is always too crowded!

I have eaten at Mikimotos a few times, it is a nice place, food is pretty good, prices are a bit high but you can get away with a decent priced meal if you don't go crazy with the sushi. The only thing I did not care for was it was there were a few too many "young trendy yuppies" for my tastes which meant it was kind of loud/annoying for a nice place. I got a regular tuna meal, tuna and salmon sushi, and tried the saki sampler, all of which was good, my friend liked what he got. Menu is good sized.

I have eaten at Mikimoto's several times over the years and the sushi has remained fairly consistent even with the interior decoration changes. The contemporary rolls are good. The rice and su are consistent and soft with mild flavor. The contemporary rolls seem to be the more popular items at Mikimoto's. The traditional sushi or nigiri is also available and very good. The fish is fresh and firm with good quality. The tuna is buttery and soft but not mealy. Ikura is firm, saltly, and bursting with richness. The service staff are friendly and quick. It does get crowded at lunch and dinner time but happy hour is quite packed due to the discounted prices. Mikimoto's has consistent and good quality sushi, both contemporary and traditional, but is a bit on the pricey side. While pricey it is worth the cost judging by most of what is available in the region.

If you always wanted to try sushi, but you're not a huge fan of raw/uncooked seafood, I would recommend Mikimotos. Mikimotos has some of the best cooked sushi I have ever tasted with very clever names. Before I get to the food, let me talk about the ambiance and the environment (parking, etc.). Mikimotos is fairly small, but it's never been extremely crowded on nights that I've dined in. Then again, I usually try to go before 7pm to avoid any crowds or long waits (if any). There is a restaurant directly next door to Mikimotos and they both share the same small parking lot, which makes parking a hassle at times. Now to the food. They have bento boxes and many other menu items that you will find at a Japanese restaurant. I only go there for the sushi rolls. I usually order at least three rolls because I love to eat. Whenever I order, the Hairy Mexican is a must. It's my "token" roll, and then I usually try two others. The Hairy Mexican contains fried shrimp, avocado, spicy sauce, and its topped with slices of crab and eel sauce. There are so many sushi rolls to choose from...cooked and uncooked. You'll find at least one that you love. Aside from sushi, I also tried dessert. I had the fried brownie. I was not a huge fan. When I first saw it, I thought to myself, "a fried brownie, this should be interesting." I should've stuck with my senses. Brownies do not need to be covered in fried dough. Overall, I definitely recommend this place if you are in the Wilmington and you're in the mood for sushi.

They have a great cocktail selection and the atmosphere is one of the best in the area but the last few times I have been there, the Sushi was off. There are much better sushi options in the area for much less money.

Went there twice within a week only because my boss invited us out to Mikimotos and I liked it so much I invited a friend of mine to join me there a few days later. I enjoyed their option of what I believe is called the bento box...pretty much a sampler dish of Japanese cuisine that can be mixed and matched...I ate every bite. What I especially loved about the place in the environment and ambiance. Definitely a nice after work spot to chill and unwind from the work day. I highly recommend it

I was at the Chelsea Tavern on Market Street, chatting with a fellow patron on Friday evening. He recommended I try Mikimotos. So I ventured out on Saturday for lunch at Mikimotos. My first visit was excellent. I sat at the bar and as I asked questions about several of the beers on tap the bartender offered two samples. I know that's common but it hadn't crossed my mind to ask. So good impression one. Since this was my first time, I had questions about items on the menu. I was also afraid to ask about those but to my surprise the bartender was helpful and didn't come across as untrained or uninterested. So good impression two. I ordered a Lobster and Shrimp Starter and the Beef Box item. The waiter brought my silverware wrapped up in a cloth napkin and to my great surprise, included in the getup was two wonderful chopsticks. Everywhere I have ever been, chopsticks were something you had to ask for and they were disposable. These were not disposable chopsticks. The presentation of my Lobster and Shrimp starter was very good. Two excellent dipping sauces were supplied and a wonderful little carrot and greens salad with a very tasty vinaigrette. I was beginning to feel really good and I still had the main course coming. My main course was really great. It was a ceramic box with sections. Rice, Beef, a wonderful hot horseradish paste, lemon grass and another item I've never tasted before. I experienced excellent presentation and great flavors. As I was dining, I dropped a single chopstick and it fell to the floor under my barstool and I didn't think anyone noticed and I avoided bothering the bartender so I started using my fork. About 45 seconds later the bartender placed a single chopstick in front of me. That was one of the most thoughtful things any server has done for me. It was real easy for me to tip my waiter 30%. I'll be back to give Mikimotos a second visit. I considered this place to be in the same price range as Chelsea Tavern, the Lounge at the Hotel DuPont or even the Iron Hill Brewery. There is more to enjoy here so the final price can edge up a little more. But it's worth it. I walked back to my apartment singing and reflecting on the absolutely great meal and dining experience I just had. That is not common. They need to add wireless for customers. This is pretty much the standard, even for restaurants that don't rate anywhere near these guys.

I don't eat rolls. I go straight for the sashimi. Their fish is good and fresh. AND BIG TOO, compared to other sushi places. IF you're willing to eat sashimi, their yellowtail is excellent.

This review is on just the quality of food. I did not dine here, instead I did pick up as they do not deliver to the Sheraton but do deliver to the Mariott!! Yes, I could not believe that either because its just a block difference. The food was medicore. If I were to eat sushi, I would prefer good quality food but the food here foots the bill for a quick prepared meal. Food usually take 15-20 minutes to prepare and it's ready at the bar. I got the Chirashi and the fish was not fresh but rather either chewy or too mushy. I found myself dabbing the fish into my soy sauce and wasabi to give it some flavor. Also, the fish cut was thick. Just from eating a thick slice of raw fish made me a bit sick as I don't like biting into such a texture when it's so thick. One good plus, they do provide forks and chopsticks and plenty of soy sauce packets (regular and less salt versions). Price is $$$ and not worth it for the quality of food.

Go to mikimotos regularly. I get fresh sashimi and the pieces are a generous size. I always want a veggie and their sides make it possible. I love the broccolini. It goes great with my fish. The service for sushi takes time here however even when not very busy. When busy you will think they forgot about you. They haven't just raw here is very SLOW. That said I like the food a lot. Lunch later or on Saturdays is a nice pace since when crowded it can be hard to hear. I go for good fish, drinks, and have a good time.

There was once a week of yore When my wife and I were bored; In the mood for dining out, We began to ask around. Local Smyrna restaurants Are anything but au courant; Most of these have the decor Common in 1983. The city is the place to be For food of better quality That makes the meal quite worth the drive; In short, we didn't seek a dump. So we put on some fancy clothes And went up to Mikimoto's; After but a little wait, We sat down to start our night. We heard the thumping Eurobeats; While sitting on our trendy seats We ordered up some drinks and food To get in a relaxing state. The White Russian can surely be Made many ways, and all of these Our waiter knew, and told to us; I ordered one without a flap. The food was tight; it's well-prepared, And we were feeling debonair, With chopsticks at a measured pace Lifting the food from off the dish To meet and greet our lips and tongue With Drunken General's Chicken; The Bento Box, which my wife had, Really wasn't all that poor. Then we were done; we paid the bill, And put on coats to fight the chill Of that cold night 'neath moon and star; I went outside to get the ride, But while I walked to where we parked, A barbaric clod embarked Upon a scheme to woo my wife (this jerk must not value his hide). She demurred at his attempt To make a witty compliment, Which had about the type of charm Expected in a cattle pen. That douchebag's pass notwithstanding, We had a pleasant evening. We both would like to compliment This fine dining institution, And would return another time To have a feast or sip the wine. We'd like to come back sometime soon, And will some night or cocktail hour.

My companion and I arrived at Mikimoto's for dinner at around 9:15 on a Saturday night. Most of the dinner crowd had emptied out by that point, so we had ample "elbow room" and the noise level was fine. But, I can imagine that it could get pretty cramped when it's busy, so keep that in mind. It's nice that there is a parking lot (albeit a very small one). I really liked the overall layout and intimate ambience. This would be a great place for a date, but also for a larger group. My friend and I sat at a table, but I really liked the design of the circular sushi bar - I've never seen that before and it was very visually appealing! Onto the food, which was delicious. We had a variety of rolls, sushi, and sashimi. All the fish was fresh and neatly cut, and the rolls were perfectly proportioned ingredient-wise. Everything was beautifully plated, as well. Beware: the menu is a bit daunting, as there are over 40 different rolls to choose from. Well, all the more reason to come back! Their cocktails sounded really good & creative, but I was more in a beer mood (and didn't feel like spending $9 on a drink). Favorite dish: Green Caterpillar roll - eel & cream cheese inside, with avocado on top. It had a very soft and almost velvety texture, with juuuust the right amount of cream cheese & avocado complimenting the eel. Simply perfect. Our server was very friendly, quick and attentive. Yes, Mikimoto's is expensive. Was it worth the price? Ehhh, I've had just as good sushi dining experiences in Philly for the same price and/or cheaper. But will I go back? Certainly! But only for special occasions, or the 1/2 price maki happy hour thing I've read about on here.

Okay, I don't know what's up with these horrible and so-so reviews. I'll preface that I only visited Mikimotos once, but I loved it. Yes, the decor is trendy-looking and I guess if you're curmudgeonly you might find that off-putting. No, I'm not an expert on Japanese cuisine and I don't know if the food is authentic or not, so if authentic is what you're seeking best do your research--and maybe look for it in another city besides WIlmington, Delaware. But I will say the food is damned good, at least what my husband and I had. He had a Hunan seafood special and I got the crab-crusted salmon and all was delicious--in fact my entree was the best salmon dish I've ever eaten. We ordered a beef tataki dish as an appetizer and Oreo cheesecakes as a dessert and both of us had cocktails--again, yum. The server was attentive and made great dinner recommendations, and we'll be sure to come back.

Good sushi, good environment, and surprisingly good music:) They need to work on the wine and beer selection list, but hey they are a Japanese restaurant, right? They have happy hour specials, 4-6 pm (2 for 1).

Good sushi - especially if you're on an expense account. There are some types of food where you don't want to go cheap, and sushi is usually one. Mikimoto's has good fresh fish and a huge selection of rolls - the menu is a bit too heavy on fried items but overall it's a good choice for sushi if you're in downtown Wilmington and willing to pay the slightly high prices for good quality food.

I was going to make a pro/con list, but then thought that's arbitrary, so I'll list my opinions on the restaurant and then you can judge for yourself: - High-quality fish - Fun, trendy environment - Overpriced compared to most other sushi restaurants (some $7-9 rolls, but most are $12-15... Even a simple rainbow roll was $12. Edamame was $8. Side salad was $5.) - A lot of cooked/tempura/fried sushi rolls - A lot of spicy sushi rolls - Slow service (we had to ask for our waitress to come by, twice) - Oblivious hostesses (they told us there was a wait, then we saw two open tables and asked about them, and they said they were open and could seat us?? They also sat us before other people who had been waiting.) - Very loud, even on a Wednesday night - Very busy (20 minute wait on a Wednesday night) All in all, I think this restaurant is overrated. Yes, the sushi is good, but I don't think it's worth paying the extra bucks for. I've been to other sushi restaurants that are just as good (if not better) and my bill comes in at least $10 less. Personally, I wouldn't go here again.

The sushi is good, creative and fresh, but let's be honest: it's super expensive! The special rolls are on point, but a yellowtail roll for 9 dollars? Regardless, I keep coming back and blowing my paychecks because the rolls are very good. Sloppy Joe is decadent but so tasty.. Brooklyn bridge is killer.. I encourage any sushi lover to go here, but don't plan on spending less than 25$

Went here r sushi about 2 weeks ago and loved it! Since I only eat cooked sushi, it was nice to see a variety of these options on the menu, The Hairy Mexican is very good but the Kraken which is a crispy Chilean Sea Bass sushi roll was my personal favorite! Half price appetizers on Fridays between 4 & 6 makes you want to be a regular!

So me and a friend went here I've never been and though this would be a good idea. So in the pouring rain we found a parking spot and went inside. When we first entered I loved the nice red couch they had in the waiting room and color on the walls were very warming. When we went inside the atmosphere was amazing. one one side the left there was a bar but my eyes first went to the Sushi bar it looked nice and color. So we got seated to our table and my friend pointed behind me and boom big as day was a photo on Inuyasha a very popular anime. Me and my friend love anime so seeing that most of the pictures on the way were anime just made me feel right at home. Now on to the meal, I ordered a avocado maki roll, shrimp nigiri and shrimp tempura maki roll. I wasn't sure what my friend got but it was a maki roll with fried crab meat in the middle with avocado on top. My friend ordered a Ice green tea and I got a hot green tea. I wasn't a fan of tea but when I drank some of it tasted pretty good,it wasn't made from traditional tea leaves which was okay the tea bag was just as good. When our meals came they looked wonderful i love how everything was set in a nice order on the plate with a small amount of pickled ginger and Wasabi. my friend likes his meal and I liked mine a lot the crunchiness of the shrimp tempura made me smile it was perfect and the nice flavors of the avocado and shrimp nigri were spot on. The place was busy and yes it was noisy I didn't image it would be quiet and peaceful yet we still enjoy ourselves the man who waited on us was very nice and when he first came over to our table he gave us a hot cloth like I saw in some videos. Overall this is a nice restaurant for a nightly outing but I wouldn't do it often. Yes I would come again there are many things on the menu I would love to try. Yes it was a noisy atmosphere but it was bearable. The food was a bit pricy but decor along with many other features would make me want to come again.

I am torn between 3 and 4 stars. The prices are high for what you get. My husband and I came here on a weeknight - and the bar area was PACKED. We found out later that there are 2 for 1 roll specials at the bar. Sure wish we had known that before we sat in the dining area. Oh well. Our server was friendly and attentive - and had GORGEOUS hair. (Irrelevant - but fun to know). We ordered drinks ($7.25 for a White Cape Codder - essentially vodka and white cranberry juice) and perused the menu. I walked over to the sushi bar to stare at the fish. Looked good - but the tuna looked not-so-fresh. Meanwhile we ordered some rolls - the "Crystal Palace" topped with chunks of lobster - was a stand out. The "Wilmington (aka Fattening) Roll" was deep fried salmon and mayo and onion. Not for me! The $10 order of 4 "lobster" shumai came in a rich, delicious cream sauce - but the dumplings themselves contained very little lobster (nearly all filler) and were not worth the money. We did not have dessert. I liked it here - and it has a sexy "bar-type" vibe. Good for a date place. Would i rush back here? Nope. Doma or Shiroi in Center City Philly are more my thing. That said, this is probably the best sushi you can hope for in Wilmington.

Great for sushi!! The Happy Hour specials are Ok, I think they could do better! The raw sushi rolls are amazing. I haven't ever eaten the regular food, just the sushi. YUM! Definitely one of the top two sushi restaurants in the Wilmington, DE area. We go back time and time again.

Mikimoto's is absolutely fantastic. The restaurant has a warm and charming ambiance to it, and also has a fun and hip vibe as well. I ordered the pop beans and shrimp dumplings to start. The pop beans were like crack. I simply could not stop eating them. The dumplings were delicious and really didn't need the sauce they came with. For my main course, I stuck with my favorite, the Hairy Mexican. Absolutely amazing. Just a fantastic dish. I followed it up with the Spicy Tuna. Ok, it was then that I realized I ordered WAY too much food. Oh well, live and learn. :) Highly recommend this place. I do think its a bit pricey, but the food is pretty darn good and its a good area of the city, so I cant complain about it too much. Enjoy!

JAPANESE RESTAURANT???? I DON'T THINK SO! Came to Wilmington for business and was searching for food around the area. Saw this nice logo MIKIMOTOS RESTAURANT and It looks clean so Decided to go there (I was starving already). Hostess was nice, seated us. But as soon as I sat down I didn't feel comfortable already, it felt like a sports bar, music was a bit loud. I open the menu, the first thing i saw was PRICES!! WOAH! the prices were almost as MEGU'S restaurant in NEW YORK. I only ordered 2 sushi rolls because that's what the CHEAPEST and safest food to have for first time. Ordered a Spicy Tuna roll and MEXICANO (fried shrimp with avocado and Japanese mayo). Didn't like the Mexicano, fried shrimp was petite and couldn't even taste the shrimp at all. Very small rolls that it was smaller than the size of SHIU MAIS FROM CHINESE DIM SUMS! Will not come back again. You look good on the outside but I don't like you on the inside.

We have has been going to Mikimotos for 10 years now. We think it's the best sushi in the area. Honestly haven't had anything else on the menu. No need because the sushi is so fresh and delicious. My biggest complaint for years ....It's FREEZING!!! Doesn't anyone, management or staff, notice that everyone is eating with their coats on and blowing into their hands??? Tonight, no kidding, everyone had their coats on, the hostess was slumped over with her arms wrapped around herself and the woman next to me put her parka on and said "I'm freezing!" How can you enjoy a meal if you're too cold to eat?? It really shouldn't be that difficult to set the temp at an average comfortable setting. Is it? The frigid temperature inside may keep us away from some of the best sushi around.

I found this place to be nice but overpriced for what you get. The rolls were pretty expensive yet small. They were fresh but perhaps I am jaded from living in California where sushi can be much cheaper and still very fresh and delicious. The martinis were tasty but also not worth the price. I never made it over to the happy hour where I heard there's 2 for 1 rolls and drink specials, but I think that would be the best time to come here. Don't get me wrong, the sushi is great and fresh but it still is overpriced.

Vegan/Veg friendly! Delish sushi! The drinks are strong here! Service is always pretty good too. Lots of choices and most are very good. A little bit pricey but typically worth it.

As far as sushi restaurants go, I'm pretty particular since my family has been in the sushi business since as long as I could remember. If a restaurant markets itself as a Japanese Sushi Restaurant I really have high expectations for the quality of sushi the restaurant serves. My biggest disappointment was that when we ordered a $100 tray of sashimi we didn't get once piece of yellow tail. This is a real shame, I don't know one legitimate sushi restaurant that wouldn't include such a tasty cut of fish. And I don't know one sushi connoisseur that doesn't appreciate the fine buttery taste of a good cut of yellow tail. Instead they substituted white tuna which cost much less. (Surprise but a lot of sushi restaurants do this) Add to that, we got the bland 3 staples of any mediocre sushi restaurant, the typical overly orange farm raised salmon, frozen red snapper from China or Taiwan, and frozen yellow fin tuna. I'm sure they know blue fin tuna (true maguro) is more expensive and tastes better. But most people can't tell the difference between the two. No other special cuts of fish were included (no massago or tobiko either) with our platter aside from the very exotic Uni or sea urchin which not many people would venture to try. The Uni server was the smaller variety with less taste than the larger variety, a cost saving move (like the others) I would assume. Aside from the fish the rolls were plentiful and varied. However we didn't get to try many of them. The sushi rice was well seasoned and sweet as I would have expected. My wife ordered the beef Bento box. Curiously the waitress asked how she wanted the steak my wife answered medium rare. When the box arrived the stead was chopped and well cooked all around. Why bother to ask how she wanted the steak? The Pot stickers were the frozen variety you can buy at any Asian grocery store. In summary, if I (me in particular) was looking for a good Japanese sushi place to have some sushi and an authentic Japanese meal I (me in particular) would look somewhere else. There is nothing special about this place. I guess was hoping for more.

My sis took me here while I was visiting DE. Wilmington please stand up! What! What! Anyways, the sushi were...I had better (I can list 238 places that serve better bada** sushi). I am going to say this though: Best sushi joint in Wilmington --- downtown...plus/minus 3 miles. *great service *anime decor *factory ceiling.

    (3)
  • Diane M.

The sushi was OK but too trendy for me. I asked the sushi chef if the Uni was fresh and he had no idea what I meant. He kind of shrugged his shoulders as if to say "sure" but to be honest I am not sure he even spoke English. The bar was packed but my friend and I were the only 2 people at the sushi bar...that says a lot in my book. If I were to go here again I would get there early and hang out in the bar, not the sushi bar.

Only been once, and have had lots of sushi fresher and more expertly prepared. My eel was all busted up. STRIKE! Don't bust up my eel please...I live for my eel... Very cool location and vibe inside, but my review is 99% based on the food. In fairness, I'll return at least one or two more times to give them another shot and try some more items on the menu.

This place is a complete ripoff! I've had food here 3 times, twice there and once to go, and I always wondered why the people I'm with want to eat here. After my experience last night, I will not be coming back. I met some friends there for dinner. I was a few minutes late, and just as I arrived at the table, the waitress asks me what I want to drink. I didn't have time to look at the menu, so I asked her to give me a few mins. She comes back a few seconds later, and asks me again, so I took a Kirin on draft. She comes back shortly after to ask if we are ready to order. I just got here! So I told her give us a few minutes. The people who were here earlier on the table told me she was acting like this since they sat down. If I was by myself, I would not have taken this type of behavior. So now I'm rushed to order, and I see Pho on the menu. I was excited! I was about to order it, but then I asked the waitress if it is the usual Pho size (huge bowl). She said no that all their soups come in miso bowls. Really? You charge the average price of a traditional Pho, and you serve it in a miso bowl. So I ordered a roll (Brooklyn Bridge) and the chicken teriyaki. The roll was good, not spectacular. I've been eating sushi and Asian cuisine for over 10 years in different cities and countries, so my palate for this type of food is pretty sophisticated. The teriyaki was sub-par. The chicken was dry. What really took me over the top was the bill. We were all given separate checks, and were charge gratuity. This was bothering me, so I called mikimotos and told them my frusturation. The manager was very rude. She just said that their computer charged the party (7 of us) as group and then waitress, "for our convenience," separated the checks. I understand with a big party, gratuity is included, but giving each person an individual check and then putting an the amount to add for the tip, that's ridiculous. The manager tells me I could have put "a dollar." She's right, but if the tip is added to the total, will I want to put anything less than what they suggested, probably not because I do not want to look bad. I wasn't looking for them to give me back my money or something, all I wanted was an explanation, and she did not give me a good one, and also needs more training on how to talk to people. I also told the manager about the waitress's behavior, and all she said is she would "talk to her." I can't believe this. This is how much Mikimotos cares about the opinions of their customers. Mikimotos is an overpriced Asian restaurant with sub-par to average food. If you want a good Asian meal, drive to Philadelphia, or take the train to New York City. Delawareans, you guys are being ripped off. If yelp would let me, this place wouldn't have a single star.

One of the few places open on a deserted Labor Day Sunday night (until 10:00 p.m.) Mikimotos has a cool vibe with Speed Racer amine on the walls and a sound system playing remixes of hits you know (if, like most of the crowd you are under 40). Extensive sushi menu - no complaints about the food. Liked the Tom Yun soup and the Mexican roll.

I guess in terms of Wilmington restaurants, sushi in particular, this would be a 4-star place but meh - I'm just really over Mikimotos. So in Delaware there is a group of Steven Starr-esque restaurants owned by a similar hospitality group in an effort to provide hip and trendy places for the yuppies of Wilmington to congregate. Mikimotos is their answer to something you would see in SoHo. It's complete with dim bar lighting, big anime pictures on the walls, trendy-yet-shitty club music blaring all night, and a big sushi bar placed prominently in the middle of the room in an effort to provide an aura of authenticity. Unfortunately, this is kind of where Mikimotos falls short. In terms of food, the menu is admittedly pretty extensive. Lots of appetizers and maki rolls, that's for sure. In the 4 or 5 years that I've been going there I've always had my staples of maki rolls (which I'm pretty sure went up in price...more on that later): hairy mexican (shrimp tempura, avocado, "spicy sauce", topped with crab stick and eel sauce), firecracker (salmon and "spicy sauce" on top of a salmon and avocado roll), and the crazy tuna roll (tuna and avocado on top of a crunch tuna roll) are my 3 personal favorites. Really though, their sushi is pretty good. Unfortunately, a LOT of the rolls contain some form of mayonnaise which is kind of unappetizing. The kobe beef sliders topped with pickled red onions and served with a mushroom, bacon, and cheese fondue were also reallllly good, despite the fondue being super buttery. The drink list is also good. They only have 3 sakes that you can get by the glass or caraf but a decent-sized bottle list; a pretty big martini list, with most containing sake; a fair amount of wines by the glass; and a beer list that leaves a lot to be desired but they do offer Dogfish Head 60 minute so hey, I'll take it. My qualms with the place rest in two areas though - the service and the prices. First of all, service is really hit or miss here. Last night our server was fine but I've had nights where they were almost non-existent. Also, they aren't really knowledgeable. I inquired about the pho and not only did she pronounce it incorrectly, she didn't really know what authentic pho was. It turned me off because if she didn't know what pho was then clearly the kitchen doesn't and that just isn't bueno at all. The prices are also EXTREMELY steep for the quality of sushi. Yes, it's good but paying $13.50 for the hairy mexican and $16 for the kobe sliders is kind of stupid. Even Stephen Starr didn't charge that much for his kobe appetizer at Alma de Cuba. Seriously, Mikimotos - you're in WILMINGTON, not New York City. Your prices should definitely not be that high. All in all, it's not a bad place for the location. You can get better, more authentic in Wilmington but if you're in the mood to be "seen" then this is probably where you should go.

My colleagues and I do not miss a chance to dine here when we are in Wilmington for business. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of sushi the first time, and we keep going back. The service staff is wonderful. The selection of sushi rolls is fairly extensive. There hasn't been one menu item that we did not like.

Positives: good sushi that always tastes fresh and delicious, a nice selection of specialty rolls, delicious martinis and good wine list, friendly service, beautiful lighting and decor, SUSHI HAPPY HOUR: 2 for one rolls! (This keeps me coming here at least twice a month) Concerns: the size of sushi pieces is a bit unpredictable and sometimes they are quite small, I would like to see more of a rotation of rolls for the happy hour and would be inclined to order more if they were half priced instead of two for one, I would prefer a type of music other than the weird techno Additional note: I have not been blown away by the non-sushi dishes I have had here, but I do not really consider this a concern because I just go here for the sushi.

  • Jessa N.

The only time I would recommend Mikimotos is weekdays from 5-7 PM, which is when they have a two-for-one deal on their sushi rolls. Otherwise what would normally be considered a small amount of sushi (two rolls) ends up costing you over $25, which is ridiculous. However, even their 2-for-1 deal has a catch: you can only order from a small selection (seven or eight) of rolls, and you also have to sit at the bar or in their tiny lounge area. Did I mention that it's first come, first serve seating and if you arrive any later than 5:30, it's nearly impossible to find a seat? Their liquor (cocktails and mixed drinks) is also horrendously expensive. If you bring a date and he/she doesn't drink beer, expect to pay $8 to $9 a drink.

    (3)
  • Jay N.

While the food can (I said "CAN") be tasty, Mikimotos simply doesn't measure up to even the more mundane Japanese restaurants. Quantities appear to be oddly small. An order of miso soup with a bit of tofu and scallion cost a few bucks and was literally about five small spoonfuls. Service tends to lean on the slow side but servers are friendly which helps the experience. Over time, I'm hoping Mikimoto will improve, it has great potential. Until then, they'll need to work on the price and the quality of food.

Was in Wilmington for a business trip. Someone recommended this place as THE place to have sushi in Wilmington. Now, my 2nd least favorite thing to do is to collect receipts for expense reports. I was desperately looking to get my belly filled for $25 (beyond which, I have to submit receipts to keep the bean counters happy). Let me tell you, it was quite a challenge keeping in mind the crazy prices here. The food wasn't really worth what I ended up paying. Couple of major issues other than the high prices a. Japanese restaurant?? C'mon who are you kidding. You're serving Pad Thai, and (gasp!) General Eisenhower's chicken?? I must have missed the side order of "Freedom" fries....Tso completely ridiculous. b. Seemed to be more of a hangout spot than a place where people actually come to enjoy food. c. The sushi chef may have been using a machete (maybe from Gen. Eisenhower's arsenal)...to cut up the fish which was all raggedy and broken up... Don't think I'm coming back....

I am giving Mikimotos 3 instead of 4stars for one reason and one reason alone: the Sushi Happy Hour (half price rolls from 5-7 p.m.) is amazing, but unless you get there at 4:00, it is impossible to get a seat. As many know, the HH only applies to the very small bar area. If you do not get there, you are forced to sit in the dining room fully aware that those in the bar area are eating the same food as you, but for half the price. I met three friends for dinner last night and waited 35 minutes for people to get up from one of the HH tables. I think there needs to be some sort of governance process or perhaps expand the reach of the HH tables? Regardless, we were hungry and excited to eat sushi and easily got a table of four in the regular dining area. Our server was so nice! I forget her name, but she was very attentive and not pushy. I started with a ginger dressed side salad and then the four of us at the table each selected two rolls each. There were so many fabulous options! We could not finish it all! The best, by far, is the Hairy Mexican. With a glass of wine and tip, we spent 40 bones each. Not too bad and we were very pleased!

The sushi was OK, but not amazing. Went for lunch during a 1 hour lunch break and returned to work late. SLOW. Insanely SLOW for a rather simple lunch order. Food is mediocre. Overpriced. If I were in the area again I might go during the happy hour when the sushi rolls are cheap, but only if I wasn't hungry. If you go hungry, you'll chew your own arm off before the food shows up. My heart breaks for Wilmington-ites who have to live with THIS as the best sushi available. Seriously. I would cry.

I got Hairy Mexican and Crazy Tuna. I wish my Crazy Tuna had a little more avocado on it but it was still really good. My husband got Chicken Teriyaki which he liked and it came with amazing but spicy green beans. We got popped beans for an appy, which is really just edamame with soy sauce, and we each ordered a dessert (hey, it was my birthday!). I got Tempura Brownie and he got Peanut Butter Panic (peanut butter cup sundae). Both were alright, they were huge though so feel free to share. Overall I'd recommend this place for out of town visitors and people within walking distance. Parking there is a nightmare.

This is one of those Japanese fusion places with hip lighting, possible Biden sightings and a bar area/meat market for 20s professionals. I used to go to the bar a lot, but not to meet meat, to eat the half-price maki happy hour special. Great way to people watch while stuffing yourself silly with tasty rolls from 5-7. The food here is surprisingly good. I am very picky about tempura, and they make it nice, light and airy. The entrees of seared diver sea scallops and filet mignon with tempura shrimp are really good. Sashimi and nigiri are very fresh, but I usually go with the rolls, which are plentiful, creative and well-made. Miami heat (three kinds of fish with sesame seeds and spicy sauce), Malay (crispy sea bass and asparagus) firecracker (salmon roll wrapped in salmon and dotted with hot sauce) and the crunchy spicy rolls are great. They call the crumbs in their crunchy rolls "tempura frick." Is that totally made up? I suppose you need some sort of word for it. My friend once speculated that crunchy rolls are made after they sweep the floor around the tempura station.

Overpriced but honestly the best sushi in Wilmington by my account. Always fresh, staff is nice and cool atmosphere. You will have to wait during the busy times, but it's worth it to me. Take out options are also great and the party trays are a steal. I go here 2-3 times a month.

Arriving at Mikimotos, the sign on the front door read, "No cutoff shirts or hats allowed." Luckily, I just happened to be wearing a shirt with sleeves on this particular evening and was thus able to gain entrance. Inside, Mikimotos had a large flat-panel television showing a basketball game - take notice sushi restaurant owners, this should be a decor requirement! My meal was very good - seaweed salad, edamame (the Japanese equivalent of the Mexican restaurant's chips & salsa), and then a variety of tasty sushi rolls. Our waiter recommended the "Miami Heat" roll. This greatly increased Mikimotos sports cred, but I was shocked and chagrined when I searched the menu and could not find a DETROIT PISTONS roll? What gives Mikimotos? No love for the Motor City??? My Detroit Piston roll would be Detroit River Sturgeon, road salt from I-75, used engine parts from a Ford Probe, and felt from the Pistons three championship pennants. Eat it, Miami Heat fans.

I think MIkimoto's just got lucky with the location that they have. Being where all the major business's are they tend to be a little more busy than the average. Food is ok and its usually to loud to hear any convo. that you may want to have! I honestly think you can get the same or better meal/service at any other asian fusion in the area, Jasmines, potstickers. They may be a little better too!!!

This Restaurant was recommended to us by the staff at the Hilton who said it was the "best" sushi in Wilmington. I'd have to agree, the vibe of the Restaurant was real chill. The decor was real trendy, heavy techo beats playing in the background...but not too loud though. There were quite a few people at the bar around the time we went for dinner (8:00pm). Everything besides the sushi was overpriced, bento boxes, pad thai, noodles..ect ect. The sushi was reasonably priced, about $10 average per roll. I highly recommend the Crystal Palace (tempura shrimp, avocado, spicy mayo, topped with tuna, and lobster meat). This was the best roll we ordered. I don't recommend the Red Head (eel and cucumber topped with tuna) because it was really plain. There wasn't much taste to it, might as well ordered a California roll. The Firecracker and the Miami Heat were SPICY (as their name suggests) It was too spicy for me. The Pineapple Green Tea is FANTASTIC. Green tea served over ice, with a hint of pineapple. I highly suggest getting this. I am defiantly going to come back here later this week. There are so many more sushi rolls to try! :)

I went here with my gf and we both thought food was good. It seems to be about the same quality, price, and selection for mainstream sushi restaurants found in any other city. It also had a nice decor. In a city short on restaurants like Wilmington, Mikimoto's is worth a try. Also, it has no connection to the Iron Chef guy even though the names seem to be similar.

My friend and coworker adores this place. After talking it up, the cravings got the best of her and she decided to run out and pick some up for lunch. She graciously asked us all if we wanted any. Please note, I am not a sushi fanatic, but after hearing so much about this place, I figured I had to try it out. On her recommendation, I tried a "Hairy Mexican." Don't let the name fool you; it is a horrible name, but boy is it good! It is a sushi roll with avocado, tempura shrimp covered in crab meat. It was amazing! Now I know why she raves about this place.

Favorite Wilmington place for sushi - quality and preparation are top-notch. Malay Roll is great. Great edamame and drink selection. Can get crowded, so reserve in advance on weekends. If you're looking for a quiet area in the restaurant, try to get a table in the alcove off the bar. Only complaint is the small private lot and lack of street parking when really busy.

The state of Delaware in general is seriously lacking in eclectic and delicious eats. Not that sushi is strange and unheard of, but a GOOD sushi place is somewhat hard to come by. Cue Mikimotos. I'm not going to lie, the prices are a bit steep. But I don't think sushi is exactly the type of food you purchase on discount. I went for lunch recently and had the shrimp and scallop bento box, which was tasty and super filling. I shared a sunrise roll (salmon, asparagus, snow crab, masago, Japanese mayo), which I wish I hadn't.. it was fresh and delicious and I wanted it all for myself. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. There was a nice ambiance in the restaurant but I didn't feel out of place in jeans. Price-wise, I don't think you'll ever catch me here for dinner. But when I am jonesing for some sushi and in the area, I'll be sure to keep this place in mind. Random side note: this place has fantastic bathrooms. Weird yes, but it really made me happy.

My hubby and I love Mikimotos. We usually only go for special occasions though, because like many other reviews said, it is a little pricey. But we think it is worth it for the whole experience and it usually ends up being a great date night. Besides the price, I don't have too many complaints. We've never had bad service (even when we went with a group of 6) or bad food (you HAVE to get the Oreo Cheesecake Spring Rolls for dessert). IMO, the atmosphere is nice - somewhat energetic without being chaotic. Which seems like it's be hard to do considering how packed in everything is. They need to remove at least 4-5 tables and spread everything out a little. The table next to us was so close I could have reached out and eaten off their plate without getting up. Also, you should make reservations if going on a weekend, but we've found that even when we do, we get a not so great table (like right next to the cold window or in the little annex on a stool type chair). If you can get past the few inconveniences and are willing to pay, it is a really nice - though, not incredible - sushi restaurant.

I recommend the 2 for 1 Sushi Happy Hour here. Happy hour is the only time I really come to Mikimotos. The Hairy Mexican roll is pretty amazing. Unfortunately, they don't do drink specials for happy hour.

ehhh, not impressed. we went for sushi...we were told this was the best in the area. it was decent, we had 5 different rolls, sake sashimi and fatty tuna...both were good. the rolls were ok, i think they could have been rolled better and the quantity of fish wasn't impressive. i guess people who want a SUPER loud atmosphere and want to dabble with a sushi menu will like this place. i prefer the little quiet hole in the walls with super fresh fish...i felt like i was eating fast food sushi here. the wait for our food was excessive, and the place wasn't packed. i won't go back.

There are not too many local choices, so this place satisfies in a pinch.

Mikitmoto's has been a Wilmington mainstay for sushi for about 10 years now. I went there once when it first opened. And while I always thought the sushi was very good the price has always kept me away. (For one of the best values in Wilmington, check out Niwano Hana formerly Mikasa). As a treat for our 9 year old daughter who absolutely loves sushi (and loves isn't a strong enough word here), we thought we would take her to someplace different than our usual mainstay and indulge her with some fine dining. Our visit was on an October Saturday night at 6pm. The dining room was fairly empty, however when we asked for a seat, the hostess asked if we had a reservation. When we replied that we had none, instead of telling us the dining room was booked, she said we should go check the lounge and see if there is a seat available. There's all of 4 tables in the lounge, all of which were full. At no point did the hostess bother to check for us. I though she was a little rude, but I'll forget about it for now. We were then offered seating at the large sushi bar which we accepted. As stated in previous reviews, the menu features a largely Asian fusion choice of fare among the wide variety of sushi and sashimi choices. Of course, our daughter gets the standard sushi platter. But my wife and I were in the mood for something different and both decided to order entrees. As a starter we ordered 3 different rolls which were all excellent. Our choices were decidedly on the spicy side and were not favored by our sushi-loving 9 year old, but we both enjoyed each one immensely. After this first round came the entrees. My wife ordered the Hawaiian Shrimp Stir Fry and I order Seafood Curry Stir Fry which was a special this night. Obviously, we are both fans of fiery food. I am also a big fan of curry and while I thought the chefs choice of adding chorizo to the Seafood Curry Stir Fry was an odd one, I was willing to give him/her the benefit of the doubt. The first thing I noticed was that my stir fry that was supposed to be served with rice was served with a thin noodle. But OK, I will roll with it. After my first bite, my meal was quite bland. Not at all what I expected from a curry stir fry. As my wife was eating I looked over and noticed that she kept dumping soy sauce on her meal. When I asked her why, it turns out that hers was also quite bland. I can appreciate the subtleties in flavor of a well cooked meal, but there was barely any flavor to be found this night. Now, preparation was spot on. The shrimp and scallops were cooked just right, not over-cooked at all. But the lack of ANY seasoning left me wanting for my daughters sushi platter instead. And as far as the chorizo? Well, it wasn't bad but....really out of place and added nothing at all to the entree. As for service, and after our less than stellar greeting at the door, our server was very attentive and never once left us wanting for anything. Great service from the waiter all evening. Mikimotos strong point is its execution of all sorts of sushi dishes. They do this very well. But if I am going to pay $100 for a meal for 3, and this included the one and only $9 mojito my wife ordered (my daughter and I drank water), I would expect a little bit more for my money. If you MUST go to Mikimotos, then I would say stick with the sushi. You won't be disappointed. But if you are looking for value for your money then I think you could do better. I'll give Mikimoto's 2 1/2 stars since Yelp only allows full stars, but 3 might be a little too much. Points deducted for our greeting by the hostess and for 2 pretty lousy entrees.

I had my reservations about going to Mikimoto's as I am not particularly fond of Asian fusion especially Japanese fusion restaurants. By looking at the menu on their website I could pretty much guess that this would be a fusion type Japanese restaurant so for the longest time I didn't go to Mikimoto's. Recently a co-worker mentioned that Mikimoto's had good sushi and the fish was fresh so I was curious to go and try it. Today was that day. I went with my friend with good expectations. The only table they had available for 2 was at the Sushi bar, so we sat at the Sushi bar. Wow, nice decor and atmosphere. Good looking crowd. The restaurant is crowded so I am guessing the food must be good. The menu is filled with lots of creative and mouthwatering sounding dishes. What we ordered. - Lemongrass Sake Steamed Littleneck Clams (Sounds better than it tastes - One of the clam shell was not open, indicating the clam was not fresh) - Sunomono Special (Nothing really special about it. Very sour and overwhelming) - Sashimi appetizer - Chirashi ($25.00 for a few pieces of Tuna, Salmon, Crab sticks, Egg, White Tuna, Shrimp, Red snapper and side of Seaweed salad - I don't think its worth it.) The service was average. All in all the experience at Mikimoto's was uninspiring. Decor and atmosphere was nice. Good looking crowd, too bad the food wasn't as good. Maybe I should've just ordered the rolls. Maybe next time, if there is a next time.

I honestly cannot say anything nice about the service at this restaurant. It was so slow! It probably took 20 minutes from the time I first walked through the door, around 1pm, until my group received their drink orders (water). They did have a nice selection of rolls, and they came quickly enough, but it took another 20 minutes to get our bill and pay! A very slow and painful dining experience. I'd also like to mention the prices are grossly overpriced. I understand it's a downtown location, but what you get wasn't worth what you pay.

Average sushi for way above average prices...

My least favorite of the trio of joints on Wash. St. This upscale sushi bar insists on always playing bad techno music. Pricey and the food is just OK.

On a recommendation from a friend, we tried Mikimoto's via take out. The first time, after we drove there and returned home to eat, we found that they forgot both orders of miso soup. We called and the manager was very apologetic, and offered to either have us come back for the soup or to send us a gift certificate. We opted to go back, and he also included a dessert, which was very nice. We decided to try it again, because everyone makes mistakes...however this time, we drove there and back and when we went to eat, the order was incorrect. So once again, we had to drive back. I asked to speak to the manager, who I believe was named Lacey, and she was less than helpful. She said something to the effect of "all I can say is I'm sorry", which she didn't sound at all. I wasn't expecting an extra dessert, but the offer would have been nice - considering we had to drive back again. While the food is good, it is nothing exceptional that warrants 2 trips to the restaurant to get what you asked for. As someone who works in the food & beverage industry, I would be appalled if my staff got orders wrong (clearly on a consistent basis since it happened to us 2 out of 2 times) and then didn't offer to make some sort of amends besides a halfhearted apology. I will absolutely not be ordering take out from them again and I most definitely will not recommend them to a friend.

The threat of a long wait on a weeknight in Wilmington can only mean one thing - this restaurant is obviously popular! I was in the mood for some sushi, but in no mood to wait, so we ended up taking a table in the lounge which turned out to be pretty neat. The "lounge" seems like a result of a trendy makeover of a patio - a few bar tables scattered around a comfortable couch and ottomans, overlooking the not-so happening streets of the city. The Restaurant itself is rather trendy and definitely a watering-hole for the post-work crowd. The menu is extensive although there wasn't anything particularly unique about the vegetarian maki options. Opted for a healthy libation since they'd run out of my martini picks, but the crispy tempuras compensated for any pretense of healthy eating! Mikimotos came highly recommended but fell a bit short on the dining options front, for me at least. However, I did like the overall dining experience.

It is what it is. The sushi is pretty decent, not the absolute best I've ever had, but usually pretty consistent. It's good. The atmosphere is great. The prices have increased since we first started going a few years ago, and that's probably what keeps us from going more often, but you're paying for the nice, big city restaurant atmosphere, which is severely lacking in this town. So much of Wilmington is geared towards the ex-fraternity/sorority crowd. If it's not that, it's very fine dining that you save for a special occasion, like the Green Room.

I visited Wilmington on business. Mikimotos came recommended and we decided to try it out. It was a sushi bar, I ordered a ny strip. It was cooked medium rare and came to me as such! Not to be outdone by my appetizer of lamb lollipops...also fantastic! The service was a little slower but nothing to cry about. This is a solid establishment. Now...look up a steakhouse in Wilmington to order sushi.

I give this place 3.5 stars primarily because of the non-sushi part of the menu (Sushi is good, not great, but good). That part of the menu is lame for the most part. For example, I ordered Tom Yum Gai. This should have come with a caveat "Some assembly required" because the pickled onions, cilantro, and pre-squozen lime were merely served as garnishes and not yet ingredients in the soup, as if Mikimoto's were so afraid pushing the average Wilmingtonite to new levels of taste! This was a slap in the face. If the patrons do not have the bold spirit to match the bold taste of tom yum then tell them to go down Concorde Pike to the AZ Caf (see review) for food bland enough for patients recovering from surgery. P.S. parking was ample.

I really enjoyed my lunch order here the other day... I started with edamame and the special crab salad over seaweed, which was delicious, then had a Motos roll and Tamago sushi. Everything was good, but it was the crab salad that really blew my mind - what flavor!
