Had the pasta this time--take-out, and it was DELICIOUS. It may've been the best penne vodka I've ever had! The portion was huge, BEHEMOTH. Seriously, I could eat it for dinner all week lol. Enormous portion comes with small salad and some strange bread--like literally slices from a loaf that you can buy at the grocery store, it was odd. For only $12.50, it's a meal for a few days--highly recommend, though it took a little longer to cook than the 20 minutes they gave me on the phone--was more like 30.

It is the best Italian food you will find in the local vicinity. Without traveling into Philadelphia, this is the best that Delaware has to offer. It's here or the Olive Garden. This best isn't great but it is good. It's owned folks that came here from Italy and have been here for 15+ years. The pasta is hit or miss. Sometimes it is al dente, sometimes it is just plain not cooked all the way! Salads are good and plentiful, with a great house Italian dressing. That "bread" that some reviewers speak of is made in house and served with every entree. It is also the bread used in the brucchetta (sp?). It's a friendly place but sometimes, especially on the weekends, the take out service can get very slow. If the person on the phone tells you 20-25 on a Friday night after 6pm, it's more like 40-45 minutes. Pizza is just OK. Strombolis are fabulous and I highly suggest the Veggie! Dough is baked perfectly! Desserts, although not made in house are very yummy!

Simple and awesome. The best Penne Vodka I have ever had with pancetta. Bellisimo!

It really depends what you order and HOW you order it here. My friend and I (a different friend this time) had lunch at Mazzella's today and the food was much improved. He had the $6.00 special - a grilled Italian hoagie which was basically a pork-fest on a bun, served with a giant pile of (quite tasty) fries. I had the chicken marsala, which for $14.50 was an enormous portion (I took about half of it back to the office!) and a surprisignly fresh, tasty salad. Not bad. Still not AWESOME, but very passable for a quick, mid-priced (Unless you are getting a special or a slice, it's not cheap) lunch.

Came here due some of the great reviews. Sat ourselves and waited for 15 minutes. No one brought menus, no one spoke to us whatsoever. It was not that busy, we decided to give them a few more minutes. Still not one person came to obtain drink orders or anything. I had to get up and get menus for my party. People sat next to us and was waited on immediately. Waitress didn't even acknowledge my husband and I. After a total wait of 23 minutes, we walked out. Will never go and visit again.

My only complaint is that it's very expensive. Otherwise, the food is amazing.

At first glance, this looks like your average Italian place. But the portions are enough for at least two meals and they have some of the best penne vodka, I've ever had.

I have to admit I only go for pizza. But it is the best pizza around. Have only eaten in restaurant 2 times, meals good both times. A little dark and dated inside. But again pizza great.

I would have to say this is currently my favorite local Italian-American restaurant by far. Their food is made with care and focus on presentation. The prices are more than reasonable for the breathtaking feasts sent to your table with each entree. Wonderful classic dishes and surely the most impressive chicken-parm you will find in the state. There's probably enhancements that could be made to the decor and a few severing tips shared with the waitstaff but I like that Mazzella's doesn't try to be anything it's not. Just a really satisfying homey restaurant for those who like to eat well and be merry!

Great for a date night or a family outing. I love their white pizza, I have had a lot of white pizzas and the one I had here was definitely in the top three.

I was really hankering for some eggplant parm, and I saw that people were coming in and out of here (plus it was open on a Sunday, and few places are), so I figured I would try it out. I mean, how bad can breaded eggplant and spaghetti be? Well...here's the thing, Delaware...you have yet to show your Italian cooking skills, and it's no different at Mazzella's. The salad was good, and the portions were good too (for 12 dollars I would hope to get something substantial) so I was really looking forward to my meal. Pros: A large portion of eggplant, decent bread, and al dente spaghetti. Cons: Tasteless eggplant, too much breading, obviously rubbery store-bought mozzarella, and acidic, you-can-tell-this-wasn't-made-by-an-Italian sauce. This meal gave me a stomachache and I had to drink a lot of water to balance out all of the salt. The cashier was going to let me leave without paying, but I did the honest thing and asked how much I owed her. I should probably have just left so that I couldn't say I paid for a meal like this. Curse my scruples! Hopefully this was just a bad batch of sauce, because it seems like a lot of people really like the food here. Sorry Mazzella's :-\

A solid local option for italian food. Eat in or take out, the pizza is pretty good, with a solid New York style thin crust it might be the best go to option in North Wilmington to get a decent slice. The pasta dishes are also pretty good, and the prices are reasonable. Definitely don't go out of your way to eat here, but if you're out of luck on trying to get pizza in Wilmington, give Mazzella's a try. I know a lot of people that live in Bellefonte and love this place that aren't on yelp and would probably give it a 4 or 5, so give it a shot, maybe you'll also really enjoy it.

Mazzellas is the the restaurant our family always chooses when we want to go out casually, and get a delicious, hearty meal without spending a small fortune. Both the food and the service are consistently good. The wait staff is always friendly and attentive, and well informed about the items on the menu. We tend to order the same dishes over and over again because they're so good! We particularly enjoy the eggplant parmesan, the baked gnocchi, the chicken alfredo, and the clams with marinara sauce. The only area in which I've noticed room for improvement is their homemade bread, which while always nice and chewy, is often very dry and a little stale tasting. The entrees are the stars here, though, and the large portions always yield enough for a leftovers lunch the next day!

They are usually pretty good but completely messes up my takeout order. Veal Marsala (an unusually small portion) was given with spaghetti and red sauce, yuck! Also, I ordered angel hair pasta instead of spaghetti. They forgot the dressing for my salad as well. Check your takeout order before you leave!

Admittedly, I'm a regular. It's all pretty darn good here. But my favorites are the Frutti di Mare or the Fettuccine Carbonara. Serving sizes are HUGE. You can order a half portion for a little less. But plan on taking home a doggy bag. Their pizzas and hoagies are also good, but why settle for less? Get one of the entrees. I've taken plenty of people here and nobody has had a bad word to say. It's a little family style restaurant. They are fully licensed and there's a bar with chairs to sit at if your a singleton. TVs on the wall usually have a game on if you're into televised sports. If you're into ambiance, keep going. Otherwise, come with family and friends, sit, eat, talk.

This place was recommended to me by my roommate and it is always very busy every time I'm in the shopping center so I have been here a few times to check it out for myself. The place itself is nice enough and the staff is very friendly. The food is reasonably priced and the portions are huge. I've had the penne vodka a couple times and it's pretty good. Not amazing by any means but good. I've also had the pizza twice but that unfortunately is not that good in my opinion. The crust is pretty good. It's soft which I like. The cheese and sauce however are kind of gross for lack of a better word. I'm from New York and I think I know pizza and this just isn't there strong suit. Not a bad place but not not the greatest. You do get a lot of bang for your buck here though.

This is THE BEST Value in Wilmington Delaware. Great Food, Large Portions, and a relaxed family atmosphere. The Tortellini Arrabbiata is Terrific. The Seafood Linguine is OUT OF THIS WORLD!

Not a large or fancy place, but the food is solid. Waitstaff is friendly and everyone seems to enjoy themselves here.

Two positives about this place are as follows: decent pizza and extremely large portions. Now for the negatives. Mazzellas uses cheap ingredients and they have horrible service. I ordered a ceasar salad as an appetizer and it came with shredded lettuce, cheap croutons and a packet of Kens Ceasar Salad Dressing (see picture). I can't believe they have the balls to call themselves an Italian restaurant and they serve their ceasar salad with a packet of Kens ceasar dressing! Hah! Welcome to dining in Wilmington,Delaware!

The place doesn't have much atmosphere, but it sure smelled good when we walked inside. They seem to do a great take out pizza business. I ordered the chicken parm, which came with spaghetti and red sauce. The chicken was a huge piece of breaded goodness. The red sauce was just ok, and the spaghetti had been sitting in water WAY too long (ie: nasty). Love the chicken part though. My friend ordered stuffed shells, and he said the filling was kind of gritty, and could have used an egg (give that a whirl guys, and do a taste test). You will get bread while you're waiting, and it will be warm, which I find preferable to other places which serve cold bread with cold butter. I will come back, and try a pizza, the next time I'm in town.

Come here for the pizza. Subs are just OK, and we've seldom tried other types of entrees, but the pizza is terrific. You can see why the takeout area is standing-room-only every Friday evening, as so many families end their workweek with a big circle of cheesy Italian goodness. In addition to whatever type you order before coming, I recommend trying a slice or two from the pizzas they have sitting on the counter. Sadly, the selection is very hit-or-miss; you may find delicacies like buffalo chicken pizza or white pizza with tomatoes and broccoli, or you might only see plain. P.S. The thick-crust sicilian pizzas are good here too. (P.P.S. After writing this review, I tried to order a pizza for three people to split, but Mazzella's refused to make a pizza with a particular topping on 1/4 of the pie. So much for going that little extra distance to please the customer!)

Food was just OK. They give a lot but there many better Italian places. Pizza was not great.Service was very slow and our waitress was the PITTS! Training will not help her. I better not name her but She should be known as miss ATTITUDE!!! Meeting her assures there will be no return visit. Oh yes the picture reminds me of the packet of KENS dressing thrown right in the middle of my Salad, which was such a nice touch!

Mazzellas is my "go-to" pizza place, but their real claim to fame are their portions of their entrees. My fiancee and I stop in on occasion for dinner when money is tight. We know that ordering dinner at Mazzellas meant that we'd have enough left over for a late-night snack, as well as for lunch tomorrow. I've never seen anyone finish a plate before. Lamberti's Cucina is it not, but it's great for a weeknight. The decor isn't so hot, and it is located in a little strip mall with a tax place, a wawa, and a chinese takeout place - but don't let that fool you. It's decent food, cheap, and you get a *ton* of it. Pictures of some of the various times I've been there are available here: thisiswhatimeating.com/2… thisiswhatimeating.com/2…

Great portions. Good flavors. I've had a lot of Italian, and this place isn't heavy like a lot of places I've been to. (I had the cappellini.)

Giant portions of Americanized Italian food (aka everything covered in red sauce and cheese). Believe it or not, there's more to Italian cuisine than tomatoes and "mottz" but this place does please the masses with massive portions. Got penne with a vodka sauce and was pleasantly surprised to see pancetta. Dining companions got penne with sausage and peppers (very good) and chicken parm, a huge platter of breaded chicken breast with pasta. Add in three sodas and an order of garlic bread and dinner for 3 was$42 bucks with enough for everyone to at least have lunch the next day. Yum. Good comfort food on a rainy day.

I'm going to do that thing where you lead in with a compliment to soften the blow and then follow up with criticism. Mazzella's certainly does have ridiculously generous portion sizes. With that said, it's not all that cheap to be that impressive. Nor is it very good. Nor is the atmosphere inviting. Basically, I wish I had gone somewhere else. That's what it boiled down to. Usually after going to most places that were let-downs I've got this, "eh, I'm glad I gave it a shot.." attitude. Mazzella's had me wishing I had gone elsewhere entirely. But, if all you really care about is leftovers for a late night snack, breakfast and lunch the next day give Mazzella's a shot. And if you're one of those people who genuinely does leftovers you've got more to celebrate. Let's say for example you've ordered veal parmesan, it already came to you tasting flavorless, soggy, overcooked; no next-day microwaving necessary. It tastes like leftovers from the start.

When it comes to Pizza this place satisfies my "I used to live in NYC where they have the best pizza" craving. I like the traditional pizza and I also like the BTR (Broccoli, Tomato and Ricotta). Nice thin crust. The pizza is probably my favorite thing to get there. Some of the entrees are hit or miss.

Best darn pizza this half-italian chick from north Jersey can find in this neck of the woods. If you like your 'za NYC-style, welcome home, baby. Not feeling like pizza? Try the cavatelli and broccoli. Mangia, Salvatore!

OK - not the highest-class, but dang good food! They serve big portions. They are very helpful. AND - they have gluten free pasta and pizza! The gluten free pizzas are really good and they have all the usual really-tasty toppings! It's a real community place and they pride themselves on being good community members. It gets crowded for dinners!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
