Delicious salsa & guac. I ordered the taquitos & they were great as well. Hard to find good Mexican food on the east coast but I think I found my new spot.

Pretty solid food and service here. The unsweetened ice tea was peach flavored which is not my thing but some may enjoy. The complimentary chips were ok and the salsa was on the mild side but we spiced it up to our own preference. The guacamole was bland we had to add salt. The stars of the food for me were the chimichangas. I opted for the beef tips and they were super tender and flavorful. Also the refried beans were very tasty. Service was very pleasant and fast on a Sunday afternoon.

Hands down my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant out there. I've been dining here for years and years, I've never had a bad experience and always come back for my favorite dish, the chile rellenos. No idea how, but I've never had a better chile relleno dish anywhere else! My sister is just as equally obsessed with their food. The Express is also very fast; whether you are dining in or taking out, the food appears so quickly! The interior is fun and simple, much more clean than the original La Tolteca down the street. The service is nothing exceptional. But, I will always always always come back here for the food!

I live in Dallas Texas and visit the area at least once a month. Having hundreds of Mexican Food choices in Dallas I was eager to see how this place stacked up to what I am use to having. I thought it was fantastic. The staff was quick to greet and seat me, as equally quick to take my drink order and food order. I have been 4 times in two weeks and enjoyed everything I've ordered! Great food, staff and atmosphere!

A late dinner out with friends, they sat us pretty quickly and the food came out fast. I had the combo platter with Chile rilleno and chicken tamale. The chile rilleno was amazing, the perfect combo of pepper and cheese with just the right amount of kick (I like things spicy and I would classify it as mild). I wish the tamale was just as enjoyable but the chicken was a little dry. Next time I would just get 2 tamales. My friends got the carnitas and ribs, and the meat for both was just so flavorful it melted in your mouth. As far as Mexican places go it wasn't that unique but it sure was good! Come if you are craving the classic dishes with some beans and rice on the side.

Great Experience! The food is yummy! However, beware of the customer service. The service is depended on who is serving you. But, it's not bad enough were you will wait ten minutes. I wish they would not charge you for extra salsa or at least inform you of a charge when asked for more salsa. It's like going to burger king and asking them for ketchup and proceed to charging you ten cent per ketchup. Lot of Mexican restaurants I have been to do not charge extra for salsa. Overall, this is a great Mexican restaurant and I recommend this place to anyone looking for good mexican.

Well I'm glad I finally tried this place cause I love, love, LOVED it! To me, this was the "authentic" Mexican food that I've been looking for in the area... I'm more used to the type of food you get at California Tortilla (which I love, don't get me wrong), Red Sombrero, Chipotle, etc. But to me, the best "Mexican" food is the kind in places where you have to order by number and they have like 300 combinations to choose from - like a Chinese place. I love being able to order say a chalupa, a chile relleno, and an enchilada all in the same platter with refried beans and rice. Love being able to try several different things at once. That said, I actually tried their Enchilada Tricolor this time - two chicken and one cheese enchilada with green tomatillo sauce, mole sauce and red sauce - mainly because I wanted to try the different sauces. I loved all three enchiladas equally and the sauces as well... The service was really good when we were there - it took our party of five forever to figure out what we wanted to order, since like I said, they have literally hundreds of things to choose from, and the server wasn't fazed. She was quite patient with us. Anyway, can't wait to get back to La Tolteca for another visit... Planning to do so soon, as my momma is coming from Alabama and I want her to try it, since the very best Mexican place we've been to is in her hometown. While La Tolteca may be considered "Americanized Mexican," I think they will keep me satiated until I can get to Mexico to try the "real thing." Which is probably forever.

I over primrosed & under delivered for me. I ordered steak tacos the steak was over cooked & under seasoned. The salsa verde was not fresh. For the price of the food I expected more flavor then what I received. My meal fell flat of expectation. My fiancée food was under seasoned & mush between tortilla. The quesadilla wasn't even warm when it arrived to our table. I might give this place another chance but for now. It just didn't do it for me.

After stopping at La Tolteca Express frequently on my way home from business in MD; I hadn't been there in about a year. So I stopped by today for some takeout and was very disappointed: the carnitas meat portion was skimpy and dry, the tamales and enchiladas were lacking flavor and tasted like frozen heated up. The chorizo queso appetizer was also very skimpy for the price. It's unfortunate to see a formerly excellent long standing place go down hill.

We've only been here for lunch and I've only had the lunch specials but I've found this restaurant to be a rather inexpensive alternative to most other sit-down restaurants. Service is good, although do be careful with special requests and such because they have misunderstood before. Car access is via Silverside Road and there is adequate parking in the strip mall lot behind the restaurant.

I was quite pleased with the authenticity of this restaurant. Beginning with the meal, I had the cocktail shrimp, which was a bit different than what I am used to. First of, the sauce itself was rather sweet, but for spice, it had tiny bits of jalapeno pepper which kind of exploded in my mouth. I kind of had to eat around the peppers after that. The shrimp were delicious! I was also impressed by the size of the sangria margarita, as well as the taste. Overall a pleasant experience!

Sort of a hole in the wall mexican joint. It looks pretty low end but the menu is rather verbose. It has a lot of different options. Enchiladas and basic mexican entrees seem to be done correctly here. however, stay away from the seafood soup. sopa de mariscos. it smelled like the Chesapeake bay.

Growing up in California and living in San Diego where we had EXCELLENT Mexican food, this is the closest we have come since moving to the East Coast. A bit pricey for burrito's w/ rice and beans, but worth the money for great flavor. Service was a bit slow given it was a quiet Sunday afternoon. Also, can't order lunch item's on Sunday without paying $2 extra, I recommend just order a dinner (same price then) and bring home the left overs.

I go to this lace a lot. I live right up the street and it's my standard Mexican place to eat. My favorite dish are the Carnitas. I get them with grilled peppers and onions added. It really makes the dish pop. The staff is very friendly and everything taste great.

Update: After sending a nice email, I received an email back and they mailed me a gift certificate to try again at any of their locations. I will update again when we use it.

Visiting from the Wild West. Wanted Mexican food and this was where we decided to have lunch. We made a great choice! Services was great, waitress was very helpful, and the food was Delicious! This is not a fast food place, they prepare each dish fresh, so it take a little time to receive your order. But it was worth it! Their cheese dip is a must!

A great spot for a great Mexican meal. I would suggest staying away from the combinations and just picking a dish you like. Everything I've had has been great. They also have a full selection of Mexian beers (Pacifico, Negra Modelo, Modelo Especial, etc.) and the Margaritas are very good (Pitchers are available). My favorites - * Huevos con Chorizo * Carne Asada * Carnitas * Chile Colorado * Chile Verde * Pollo Asada Also, the Flan, Churros and Fried Ice Cream are great if you still have room after your meal!! Again, great, no-brain, Mexican-American food!! They don't hold back on the portions either!!!

wonderful food. i've stopped in a few times for sit down and take out, and also order from them via takeout taxi. i've been confused over the name-the sign says, if my memory serves me correctly, La Tolteca (Express?). However their website says La Tonalteca. When I order from takeout taxi, it's listed as La Tolteca. there's also a La Tolteca in Fairfax shopping center. but after the confusion, i do recommend the food, and at least once a week the have a Mariachi band.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
