It's been a while since we've been here but we used to come for the karaoke. It gets REALLY busy in there and sometimes the service is very, very slow. Especially on karaoke night where you barely get a chance to sing because it's obvious the groups are very "cliquey" and the dj tends to let his friends and regulars sing more often. Also, the dj tended to take a lot of breaks, when there were alot of singers still waiting their turn. The food is pretty good but it's a little bit on the pricey side for what you get. Drinks are high priced as well. Caters to a younger crowd but not a bad place to go once in a while if you're looking for unique mac and cheese dishes and a night of karaoke.

This restaurant is on Route 896 northbound. From 896 southbound, one would have to turn left on Old East Chestnut Hill Road and take the side entrance. This is a restaurant with an identity crisis. The sign on the front says "Mad Macs". A sign out by the road says "Matilda's" and there is also a less-noticeable "Matilda's" on the door, but aside from those, you couldn't tell that the building houses both restaurants. The restaurant menu is roughly half Mad Macs and half Matilda's. I wish they'd developed the Matilda's side of it more. There wasn't anything in there that was particularly Australian. Regardless of the above concerns, I thought the food was very good. The tequila lime chicken nachos had more than enough cheese and toppings, and the cheese they used tasted a cut above the typical nacho cheese. The BBQ pork quesadillas were pretty good too. Prices, which are over $10 for most entrees, are on the high side, but in this case, you may actually be getting what you paid for. The server was also very nice and helpful, and came to check on us often enough. The main downside right now is the restaurant is under renovation, so parts of it, including the restroom at times, may be closed off. I'd give it a few more weeks before going there again.

This is a fun little place, kinda campy but fun. The food is pretty good I've tried few different things and would have to say the Roo burger with an egg on a pretzel bun has been the highlight for me so far. Mahi tacos are damn good, this place can get busy which is why its fun, but more people with the same amount of servers means service slows down, so if you are in a hurry you might want to avoid certain days and be mindful of when the Phillies are playing (they run beer specials and it does draw a crowd) I had chocolate peanut butter beer and a chocolate peanut butter adult milkshake that was damn good. Fun stop in a college town, good variety of drinks and food.

Came in for lunch. Had fries and mac n cheesew/ buffallo sause and blue cheese. It was great. There beer selection was really good too but thats when things started to fall apart. Our server seemed less interested in helping us and more interested in texting on her phone. Never got her name, no name tag etc. Prices were crazy insane $7.50 for a Blue moon? My wife got something called a trash can "cocktail" while good was actually just a long island iced tea with blue cuaraco in place of cola. I was a bartender for 9 years and thats called a blue island iced tea and its a $5.75 drink, not the $12.00 we paid and it was in a pint glass not a bucket. I think if your going out for a day out with your lady and she wants to get a fancy drink than shes gonna get it. But a $12.00 drink called a trash can yoid expect to be a big bucket and not a beer pint glass. The bathrooms were clean and Im a smoker so while I was outside having a smoke, being able to watch espn while outside is nice. The place is clean and everything as far as sears, tables etc were fine just wish our server had been a bit more professional. She seemed angry we only left her $5.00 I figure, she's lucky she got that for her complete lack of professionalism. The food really saves the review. With the trash can and service this plase gets 1 star but there fries and large selction of various mac n cheese combo's brings it up to 3 stars. Our friends always ask us to meet them there on friday nights and we do. Those nights are hit n miss. The bartenders (who wear next to nothing for beter tips) Dont always make what you order which leaves me to believe they hire based on looks and not on actual tallent for bartending. But some fridays the actually have at least one bartender who knows whats what and our drinks are well made. I get it, sex sells and gets guys in at the bar. But properly trained bartenders mean repeat business everytime...

Great food. Cannot go wrong with either the Roo burger or any of the Macs. Every time I pass by on the interstate, I stop here. I just wish I didn't live 2 hours away. Tons of tv's for watching sports, night time music can be a little iffy. I blame that on the college children.

You can tell exactly which reviews are written by the staff, SMH. This place does not care about its customers or employees. The manager is inappropriate & rude. The bartenders can't seem to get anything right. If the food was better, they would get a lot less complaints!

I love this bar... AJ and Crystal are my favorite bartenders.... stop by each and every Thursday! They have great prices. The Mac n Cheese are awesome and tasty. The crab dip is delicious too. They have all the football soccer basketball hockey and baseball games playing each night and also they have brunch on sundays (havent tried that yet)... If you are looking for shots get the Blondheaded Slut!

With a few hours to kill between jobs, I was looking for a place where I could sit down and eat. I saw the sign right before I-95 came up for Australian BBQ and thought that might be interesting so I turned the car around. When i got there, the restaurant had signs on the front that read Mad Macs. What? I thought I was in the wrong place, that there was another restaurant attached on the side. Nope, not that either. Maybe they changed the name or had a new restaurant open up but left the sign up near the road? No. The place was apparently both Matilda's *and* Mad Macs. Which was confusing as hell. But I was hungry and they had a bar so I went in. I was offered to sit in the restaurant area or the lounge. I decided on the lounge since the Olympics and college hoops were on the TV and I was by myself so I could sit innocuously in a corner without people wondering who the guy with no friends was, eating by himself. The server, whose name I forgot, was very enthusiastic! She thought my choice of beer was great! (It was a chocolate wheat beer which was easily the sweetest beer I have ever had in my life). While checking out the menu, it did not seem like some hotbed of Aussie delicacies. It had chili and burgers made with kangaroo meat but otherwise, it was standard sports bar fare. There was one page of various Mac & Cheese dishes as well. I never had kangaroo. Googling it actually brought me up with blogs and local articles about Matilda's. It said they offered a 'Roo Steak as well but I couldn't find that on the menu. The server was enthusiastic about my choice (again, it was her favorite!). I ordered it rare and asked that they hold the onion straws. It was supposed to come with a cheese sauce on it. Since they made a big deal out of their Mac & Cheese (and since I don't like fries much) I substituted a small size of the Four Cheese (which was the most basic of nearly a dozen choices, some of which were quite esoteric) to go with the burger. It took a long time for it to come up. I was on the patio and my server was dealing with a lot of tables in the main area which meant that I didn't see her very much. When it finally came out there were onion straws atop it to my chagrin (I hate those things). She took it back but I slid the extremely hot plate of mac & cheese off the main plate before she did to get started on it. It was really hot with a crust of caramelized cheese atop the gooey macaroni. I have to admit it was very tasty and for a small portion quite robust. The burger sans onion abominations came out very quickly, making it obvious they didn't get me a new burger but instead just got rid of the onion straws. Which is fine since I waited long enough for it. The burger did not taste like ground beef at all. It was even farther away from ground beef than bison is. The texture was also a lot more solid than beef or bison burgers. It had a unique flavor that was not unappetizing. It wasn't very rare, but it was juicy enough so I could overlook it. I think I would be happy to try it again. When I was eating I did the Yelp Check-In and to my surprise there was a free appetizer waiting for me. I asked the waitress if I could use it on some Kangaroo Chili. However, it took a really long time to get this for me, so long I was afraid that I might be late to work so I flagged her down to cancel it. She was apologetic and took 20% off my bill. Which was nice and all. Overall I wasn't sure what to think of the place. My confusion started with the name, continued with the menu and even at the end when I got the bill, it wasn't itemized. Not that I didn't trust the server but I like to tip on the amount before the discounts so I wanted to see the pre-adjusted total however flagging her down proved difficult so I just tipped what I thought was appropriate and left. I can see me stopping in again because they have a nice beer selection and I would like to try that kangaroo again. But they'd have to do a better job in several key areas before I could wholeheartedly recommend the place. Hell, I am still not sure what the name of the place is...

They're a little more expensive, but for the price it's totally worth it. My favorite is personally the 'roo burger' I've also loved a few of their salads that they have gotten rid of. But I mean other than that their menu is well sorted. The place is well laid out and the customer service is great. Also. The sports help too

Excellent local pub/eatery. Can be a bit crowded at times but it is what it is, a local pub/eatery. Good food, cold beer, local atmosphere.

We waited for about 1.5 hours to get our food. My family said their meal was good but not worth the wait time. I was unable to eat my dinner as it was not cooked all the way and we did not have another hour to wait for it to be finished. They did take off the item that I was unable to eat from our check. The appetizer plates they brought to the table when they seated: 1 had hair on it and 1 had leftover food residue present. Our waitress was nice. Not sure what was going on in the kitchen? Also, this establishment is part restaurant/part bar. The bar had live entertainment. The restaurant had other music playing. You could hear both at the same time so it was a little irritating. We wouldn't have minded hearing the band only.

Definitely a bar atmosphere with college kids to working adults to small families to couples. A rare mix of a crowd. Good beers, and fun waitresses. Bf got kangaroo and I got nachos. Good times!

This is the closest I have seen to Australian food in the US; obviously the Outback Steakhouse doesn't count, and I like Outback. Get your 'roo burger with egg and beetroot on it to try it the Aussie way. While they don't have VB, they do have bottles of Coopers, although it was $6 a bottle. It would be cool if they went all out and had meat pies and Lamingtons to add to the menu, although I guess there isn't much demand. Still, the different mac and cheese options are excellent, as is the crab pretzel. A great place to stop off of 95.

One of the few places in Delaware where you can go karaoke. The crowd is cool and laid back. The workers are smiling. The food is good enough to wait to eat. You can hear each other talk. Everything good about this place ... you gotta check it out .. on a Friday or Saturday night!

So, seen the place here forever and quite a few vehicles at times so decided to see what it is all about. Owners must be spending a lot out of pocket to keep this place going. Sampler platter over cooked mush as was the Mac and cheese. Go here for the bar and drinks etc. stay away if you're looking for a decent meal. Also has two names and two signs and two sections...confusing as to whether they are an Aussie restaurant or a Mac and cheese focused restaurant. Not sure what is going on here but now we've tried and now we won't be back.

My Friend & I went here on a Saturday afternoon, for a late lunch. I've been there before. We had to sit in the bar, which was noisy and I didn't care for all the tvs with sports on. Oh well. Not a big But we had the "Bleu balls", which were tasty, a Roo Burger, which was pretty good, and the Jumpin Jack Mac (Roo chili & Mac & cheese), also good. we had a couple side salads that were bland and tasteless. We had a couple beers too. The service was good, but it wasn't a cheap lunch, $43 before tip. I would go back for the Mac & cheese or Roo burgers.

My fiancée is Australian so while we saw this place on the way to Philly, we thought we had to stop here. They did have a couple Australian items on the menu (Lamington, Rooburger), but the plethora of mac n cheese didn't seem very Aussie-like. I asked the server and she said the former owner is Australian but they have new owners from New Jersey. Anyway it was pretty average college bar unhealthy food. My fiancée is a vegetarian and had problems finding something to order that wasn't mac n cheese

I used to love this place and I really do think their buffalo chicken mac and cheese is outstanding. However, the last time I ordered delivery, a container arrived with only 75% of its space filled with the mac and cheese, despite it's pretty steep price (which by the way, has gone up since the summer). I was very disappointed. Added to this is the fact that another part of my order was missing and I don't think I will be ordering from here again. Which is really a shame because I think they do mac and cheese well. But unfortunately, it's not only about the food.

Have gone to this restaurant a few times, but I've never had a completely enjoyable meal. It's all in the details, because the food is just fine. Fruit flies in my wine, beer served without a glass, and very wobbly tables. The bar area is always loud, but that's fine for a bar, people are enjoying themselves. But it seems that the quieter family dining area is almost an afterthought. I may be giving up, unless I go for Quiznos night.

Met my friend here on Friday night after happy hour was already over. It was packed and there were no seats, however a guy at the bar gave up his seat for us. I ordered the drink special which was Sangria with kiwi and strawberries. It was very strong, and very delicious, and in a large glass for $7. We ordered blue balls and lobster and crab balls to share. I'm not sure if it was because our drinks were so strong, but we didn't notice until after we ate 4 of the blue balls that they were actually fried macaroni and cheese. I told the waitress it took us 4 balls in to figure it out, and she corrected the order and did not charge us with no trouble at all. She brought out an order of the blue balls, which are chicken, ham, and cheese. They were good, but the lobster crab were definitely our favorite. There was a band playing and it was extremely loud, but it was a fun atmosphere and we will definitely be back.

Went on a Sunday evening with two kids who love mac'n'cheese. Place was mostly empty, but service was not good, borderline terrible. Mom got shrimp scampi and it was bland and pasta was overdone. I got buffalo Mac, and it was completely unremarkable. One kid got 4 cheese Mac mini, the other the kids burgers. Overall food was bland, SLOW, and overpriced for what you get. Service was horrible. Bathrooms were ready for a scrubbing for sure. Will not be back.

Wow. So I was passing through and saw the sign for Australian BBQ. Hung a quick u-turn and parked. Looked at the menu and tried to find the BBQ. Not there. Asked the server and was told "we don't do that". Only the standard pub food is available and it is poorly executed. Nothing Australian about this joint. The kangaroo burger was inedible. Took 1 bite and gagged. Stay away from this place. Far far away.

My family and I ate here after a UD football game. First let me say that the bathroom was disgusting. Absolutely terrible with no maintenance. I ordered guacamole as an appetizer, 10 minutes later our waiter told me they were going to get more avocados. Another 10 minutes go by and he explains that the avocados aren't ripe yet, so I chose the stuffed chicken rolls. They were awesome. I also ordered the mad Mac. It was tasty but extremely filling (the full size). The food is definitely unhealthy college food so don't expect anything fancy here.

First i want to just note the sheer number of blocked reviews, i found it rather odd. Regardless a large group of us decided to come here during Hurricane Irene. It was still open, so we filled 3 car loads and headed over. It was seat yourself so we took 3 booths in the bar area. We were greeted by the bartender whom we thought was a waitress who was really just helping and the bartender. They were short staffed but things still came out pretty promptly. We ordered there wings and buffalo dip for the table and I ordered their chiefs special which was a combination of their Snookie Mac, lobster Mac and Greek Mac. The waitress eventually came and took over our table. The apps came our pretty quick and they were good, the hot sauce for the wings was pretty taste. We ordered the hottest ones and generally some places just make them as miserable as possible. They were pretty taste here. The dip was also pretty good but nothing special in my opinion. When our food came out I received a nice 3 bowl plate with a helping of each type of Mac. I have to say you do receive a decent size portions. The lobster Mac was awesome, the Greek one was a little overpowering with the olives, but I don't always like them so that could just be me. The Sookie Mac was also pretty good with little pieces of sausage in there. All in all I have no regrets coming here and given the chance I would come again.

This review will address the two components that contributed to a two star rating: the quality of the food and the service. First, the food. I sought this place out because I'm a mac n cheese junkie and was intrigued by the menu that boasted 13 types of gourmet concoctions - pizza mac, buffalo mac, and lobster mac to name a few. I promise that if you are a cheesy pasta junkie as I am, you will find their mac n cheeses to be just okay. They are indeed very cheesy, but lacking in flavor. My mom could do way better. We also ordered the Walkabout Chicken Rolls as an appetizer, to which the waitress (our very nice, but pretty bad, waitress) enthusiastically responded with "those are one of the best things on our menu!" They were very underwhelming, unless you like when the flavors of your food are masked by too deep of a fry. Back to the waitress, who remains MIA as I draft this review between sips of beer: we ordered an appetizer and a mac n cheese trio to split. We asked that they be brought out separately but they were brought at the sane time. Then, get this: she randomly and suddenly brought us our check at the second we took our final bites of the meal. We were trying to make a nice evening of it and wanted to order a few more beers and maybe another app, but we felt nothing short of rushed out. Finally, to clarify why this wasn't a one star review. 1) good drink selection and a pretty decent happy hour 2) great vibe for hanging out and watching the game. The clientele was a cool mixture of biker dudes/chicks and college kids. Still, I won't go back. I can get better food and better service at many an other place.

I am definitely a fan !!! This was my third time coming and I've never been disappointed . The manager is very friendly and makes a point to come around and answer any questions , service is a little slow but all in all it's worth it .

I truly wanted the place to be better than it was, alas it was just another pub restraunt trying to find a niche. They use an Australian niche and I suppose that works, but the food is bland and the menu poorly scripted. The service was purely average and the loud atmosphere was not condusive with dining. I think Paul Hogan would not be pleased, but to the average joe it's an ok place to sit and have a shrimp off the Barbie.

My wife and I went to Mad Macs 2 weeks ago for the first time because we both heard great reviews from co-workers. We were not disappointed. I got the Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese and she got the Lasagna Mac and Cheese. I've been thinking about this food ever since. I'll actually be returning tonight for my birthday because this has become my new favorite restaurant. The only reason I gave 4/5 stars is that the service is a little show. Either way it's worth trying for yourself.

Sweet find not far off Rt. 95 in DE. Known for their various macs & cheese. Definitely a locals place at happy hour. Good selection of microbrews as well as the usual drinks. Try the mac sampler. Chefs choice of 3 macs on the menu.

Where I was sitting, I kept getting a slight whiff of something rank. Like sewage. It wasn't overpowering, but it was definitely off-putting. I'm not sure, but it might have been from the bathroom door opening and closing. I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and it was pretty gross. After that, I wasn't too excited to get my food. I ordered the Mad Mac, which was macaroni and cheese with barbecue sauce and bacon, and the waitress asked if I wanted bread crumbs on top. I said yes, but it came without any. That wasn't a big deal, but the mac and cheese had so much bbq sauce in it that I really couldn't taste anything else. It was pretty much like eating a bowl of barbecue sauce with the consistency of macaroni. I probably wouldn't go back here again.

  • Mark S.

This is the place to go if you want to sit behind an empty glass. The service was very slow despite me and my friends going during a down time of the afternoon when there were only a handful of people. Bartender seemed content with simply ignoring us for the duration of our time there. Food was OK and prices seemed reasonable but no reason to stop here for food or a drink again.

Took advantage of a Groupon for this place. What a rip. The Mac and cheese was pretty much flavorless, the salad-almost all lettuce, and the dessert spring rolls were rescued by the ice cream. As for the Groupon - they limited your choices so much you only break even. THAT IS A LOSS based on the food!

Went in and there was some mixup about who was supposed to be our server (we sat in a booth and then waited for about 15/20 minutes until someone came to our table). Finally, we flagged down a waiter, who was very apologetic about the situation, something about a shift change. The waiter was really great at giving suggestions on things we might like. We tried the wings with their secret sauce which was quite good. A little sweet but with a kick, and very tasty. Also, we got the pizza mac and cheese with pepperoni, which was really yummy as well as the mushroom one with cheese and truffle oil. Both were really tasty, and we couldn't decide which one we liked better. Really yummy food, and I'll probably stop by again next time I'm nearby to try out another one. . . I have my eye on one of their specials with spinach in it.

There are two sections inside Matildas, one section has the bar and is usually loud with live music, while the other section has the restaurant and is less crowded and more relaxed. I chose to dine in the restaurant section, especially after hearing an awful rendition of a John Mayer song blaring through the bar. I love Australian pub food. I had the kangaroo burger, which was HUGE and featured yummy well-seasoned kangaroo meat, with overly salted fries I barely touched. My compadre got the trio of mac and cheeses (chef's selection). Hating all things cheesy, I didn't try her dish, but she told me the spinach artichoke mac & cheese was a lot better than the other two choices. It's a decent restaurant to get greasy food, but it's missing a few factors to be considered more than okay.

Second time visiting and i was great. These time i had the chicken wings with there secret sauce and it was awesome. Saved $8 with Yelp when i was looking on my phone. I showed the cupon the server and she honored it. Great mood, great food and great prices.

A few of us came here on a Friday night and were seated at a booth in the bar area. The waiter was very friendly and quick. There was live music, which was nice because it wasn't too loud and we were all able to still have a conversation. For an appetizer, we split the spinach and artichoke dip. It was okay. Not the best I have ever had. It seemed to be missing salt or some key ingredient. However, for my entree, I got the Mad Mac, which is just your basic mac and cheese but with bacon and bbq sauce. Amazing. I am still thinking about it right now. It was definitely a big enough serving, that I made two meals out of it. But I highly recommend it.

I've now been to Matildas what I consider a fair amount of times to write a proper review. We went recently and I ordered the rib eye. I must admit, I can be a steak snob of sorts, but I wanted to like it. It had so much pepper on it, however, that I could barely taste the steak. Next, the service. When our meal came, my husband asked for bleu cheese dressing. The waitress took so long to come back, he had decided to forgo, and at his sandwich plain. Then we asked for a to-go box, and I kid you not, she walked by our table THREE times without the box. When she dropped off the check and asked if there was anything else we needed, I said "a box," and then she slightly giggled and said, "yeah! I keep forgetting it." Considering it was not a busy night at all, I think maybe thre other tables besides us, I was quite disappointed. And this is how it is whenever we've gone. Food is either too bland, or overseasoned, and once it arrives, waitress disappears until it's time for the check.

This restaurant was reviewed on a website called "I-95 Gourmet" and seemed like a reasonable bet. I had read about their mac-and-cheese-plus pulled-chicken with hot sauce. I went for it even though there were 'roo burgers on offer ... Anyhow, it was an immense portion (too big, but I at it anyway). The chicken was somewhat bland -- I was imagining something a little bar-b-que-y; the mac and cheese was good, also a tad bland; the special sauce was quite good but did not dominate. It's a friendly place; by 9 on a Saturday evening, when I was there, most of the action was in the bar (there was a live act on). I'll definitely try it again. There is a fairly extensive menu; a little pricey for the area perhaps but again, service and qualtiy was fine.

  • Craig O.

i was reading the reviews and i was surprised to see how many people were dissatisfied with the service. i come here a few times a month and i have never been upset with their service. i usually come for happy hour (big pints for a great price) and the waitress or bartenders are always on point when i need a refill. when it comes to the food, ive only had the buffalo wings, buffalo shrimp and nachos. which are not bad at all, they have a good flavor and the nachos are a bang for your buck. all in all i would recommend this place.
