Wow! An authentic Yunnan Chinese restaurant! I was incredibly excited when I heard that this place would be opening up in Newark. A while back there was no authentic Chinese food in Newark. Yi Palace opened up a few years back, but it's not exactly the most user-friendly restaurant, with high prices and very large serving sizes that make it really only suitable for dining in large groups. And Yunnan food? I've only had Yunnan food one other place, at Spicy City in San Diego. Yunnan food is awesome...bizarre, weird to most people with a Western palate, even more so than other traditional Chinese foods, like Sichuan and Cantonese food, although it does share a few things in common with both Sichuan and Cantonese food (and you will find some traditional Sichuan and Cantonese dishes on the menu here). The alienness of Yunnan cuisine may be because it has had less of an influence on Americanized Chinese food than the cuisines from other provinces...or maybe just because fewer people from Yunnan province have come to the US until recently. Either way, it is really awesome and new and different tasting and I recommend checking it out! I've eaten here twice, both times in groups, and we ordered lots of different things both times, and they were all outstanding. Some of my favorite dishes were the sauteed string beans (very simple, but sooo yummy, perfectly crispy and with lots of garlic), the sliced pork with hot peppers (hot peppers are more of a vegetable than a seasoning here--don't be scared, they're hot but not brutal, and their taste is exquisite), and the sauteed bok choy. For more unique items that you would be less likely to find outside a Yunnan restauarant, we got the appetizer with cold mung bean noodles and shredded carrots. Wow. What a weird dish! Completely new flavors! It had a bit of seaweed, and szechuan peppercorns (that leave a bizarre numbing / tingling sensation in your mouth), and a strange sour-pickled flavor that is hard to describe and unlike anything else I've ever eaten before. Another odd dish that I enjoyed was the dish with chicken and shiitake mushrooms, in a sort of rich oniony gravy sauce. We also had a noodle soup, and it was good, flavorful, and lightly spicy. Oh, and the scallion pancakes here are outstanding! I've had them elsewhere, and here are some of the best I've had them. They're chewy and just perfect. Prices are very reasonable! I'm going to keep coming back...again and again and again, and bringing my friends, because this place is great and I want to see it survive and thrive! Oh, and this is not quite my thing, but they do have a few of the American-Chinese dishes (in a separate section on the menu--the way I like it) if you want to bring a friend who is slightly less adventurous in their culinary tastes. One caveat--this place JUST opened so if you go shortly after reading this review, prepare for some slightly awkward service. Our server was very nice, but this place is still a bit disorganized. I seem to be seeing them figure it out though, as we go along, so I have a strong intuition that it's going to be much better soon, as they figure things out. They also don't have the full menu available yet, and their hours aren't quite full. But it's so good I want to come here anyway! Yeah! Check this place out...if you love authentic Chinese, then check it out, especially if you want to try something new and different.

Real Chinese food by real Chinese people . Closest thing to being in China Newly opened so just getting organized. Worth a visit if you really want authentic food, large generous proportions almost too large to finish

Authentic food. Decent prices, especially considering the prime location. Terrible service, but that should improve somewhat as the "new restaurant" bustle dies down. Definitely on par with Red Bowl / Bamboo House / Yi Palace. It's a pleasure to see the horrible wholly Americanized Chinese places going out of business.

I had previously visited this restaurant. I decided to take my wife who is very picky eater on Friday night. It is a very interesting authentic restaurant in a quaint college town. The decor reminds me of Lijiang in Western China as the decorations are beautiful almost exotic murals from that region. The waitresses are University of Delaware students from China. They are anxious to practice English with you so they were very helpful. My wife and I had a splendid meal. The manager Mr. Jin helped us to select foods. My wife prefers noodles and not spicy food. I like spicy food from western China. We hadwas a charming evening. When I was there before the place was packed mostly with University of Delaware Chinese college students wanting to get a taste of home. Now it is less crowded as many students are on Spring break. There is less bustle and more Westerners. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to try something different and enjoy an authentic Chinese culinary experience.

Excellent food! Really authentic. The large bowl noodles reminded me of home. Zajiang noodles were yummy too

Food was alright, but service was terrible! Extremely authentic Yunnan Chinese, but this is an extremely new restaurant and the disorganized service proves as such.

Ate here last night. Food was really good...fresh, hot, and very tasty. Lot's of different things on the menu. Hard to get really good Chinese food in Newark. Definitely will come back. Service was a little slow, but everything is cooked to order. Wait service was pleasant.

Food is great, staff is not. Be sure to call ahead if you're getting take out, otherwise be sure to leave 15-20 minutes just to get your food. Have routinely seen staff neglecting those that are dining in, to the point of taking their checks to the front counter. However, the food is still worth the potential hassle and the restaurant has always been clean when I've been in.

I like CYN for menu roulette. They have the most unique menu of any Asian restaurant in the area, so that plus location keep me coming back. The closest equivalent is bamboo house, but bamboo house is much more consistent in food/service quality. That said, eating at CYN does feel like roulette. I've had frozen meat in one dish and melt in your mouth deliciousness in the next. I've had horribly slow service and sometimes attentive service. I've had overcooked and undercooked noodles. And so on. That said, the scallion pancakes are consistent and always worth ordering.

I gave 4 stars to this restaurant before because of their good chicken soup. I did not complain about their service because it just opened for 2-3 mouths at that time. But now, it has been opening for more than half year, the service still very crazy. It did not make sense. There is absolutely not enough waitresses in busy hours. Hope they could make their service as good as the food here.

We've heard good and bad review previously. But our experience is worse than we expected. All rice noodle are broken into pieces , very much like the left over. The taste is also awful . The picture on the store are pretty but the actual is not as good at all. We had pictures . I hope my post and pictures won't get deleted

Food was OK and service was a little crazy. Order got mix up and food came out a little at a time and then the appetizers came out in the middle of dinner. One waitress took order and then other came by to take order...not to smooth operations. Place has been open for one and half weeks. Hope they get it together. Pot stickers were OK and General Tso chicken was so so.

Worst service ever. No one takes care of you at all. The place is not that crowed but the waitresses seem non sense busy. Would give one star but the food is good.

This food made me sick- no, not in a bad way, I mean the food was so damn delicious that I ate so much that it made me sick. I got the General Tso's Chicken with white rice and 3 vegetable egg rolls. Huge portions, and it was delicious. The atmosphere is pretty interesting. You can sit in a booth and be served, or you can get take-out and go Post House style (R.I.P.) and sit on a stool. The funniest part of eating here is being able to hear the workers yell at each other angrily in Chinese. While I was placing my order, the worker stopped me halfway in my sentence to yell a reply to one of her chefs, and then went back to taking my order. Some people might have been put-off, but you're eating at a Chinese restaurant, it's what comes with the territory (not to be overly-stereotypical)- kind of like expecting the women workers at Jack Country Maid on Kirkwood Highway to have laryngeal cancer when you're buying a gallon of milk. All told, I liked C.Y.N. a lot, and I will be going back, but I still put No. 1 Chinese in the Newark Shopping Center a notch higher.

There is finally an authentic Chinese restaurant in DE! I was a tad skeptical when I heard that this place had authentic Chinese food, but I gave it a chance either way. The decor was ok, but that never really deterred me from eating at restaurants. Though the menu contained poor English translations, I was impressed with the many selections on the menu. The food was hot when it came out and the plates had large portions. The food was very good and the spiciness in the dishes gave enough kick to satisfy my appetite. I would definitely come back to this place and try a different dish!
