On entering the restaurant, we were 'greeted' by the hostess barking "how many" and then pointing (not escorting) us to a table "under the coke sign." We then waited somewhere well over five minutes -- coming close to walking out -- before the waitress acknowledged us and took our drink order. Not a great start. My husband wanted a baked sweet potato with his sandwich instead of fries, but that was going to be an additional $3.00. That seemed a bit steep when you could order most other sides, including a regular baked potato, for much less. The special Memphis Fries, which figure large on the menu, were described by the server as "just regular fries with some seasoning stuff on them" ... way to sell it! We selected the pulled pork and the brisket sandwiches. Both were missing the hallmark (and required) smokiness of any BBQ meats, making them not much better than regular oven roasted. Meh at best. The sauce, what there was of it, was good ... but we had to beg for more of it, and then only got a half-filled shot-glass sized pot of it to share. I've never been to a BBQ place that didn't have bottles of different sauces on the table. Here, they acted like the one sauce offering was liquid gold. Now we knew we were in the middle of Delaware -- not exactly the home playing field for BBQ. And this place could have been saved by just a few things ... a friendlier and more vested staff, timely refills for the iced tea, and bottles of sauce on the table to flavor the otherwise pedestrian meats. As it is though, when pigs fly is when we'll be back.

Decent BBQ, polite service which is also fast. I had the "Where Pigs Fly" it was a pulled pork with a chicken leg and half rack of baby backs. The prices were okay but the portion of the sides were a bit disappointing. I had the Mac n Cheese with the baked apples. We also got a freshly baked loaf of bread which was very tasty. My only gripe is the menu was very limited.

Great place to get down with some BBQ! I took three kids under age 11 with me. The meals were delicious and they have a great kids menu. The sweet tea is straight out of a Memphis kitchen. A++ would come again!

Ahhhhh, I love this place!!!! Holy cow, or shall i say, Holy Piggie! Cute place--loved the artifacts, obviously piggies. Our server was awesome. She was quick, efficient, polite, and on the ball. The prices are Outstanding! $7.50 for a pitcher of beer! $14.50 for a DELICIOUS, OH SO TENDER, FALL OFF THE BONE (where applicable) entree!! I got the combo of 1/2 rack of ribs, pulled pork, and chicken. The meals were served so quickly! And everything was so incredibly tender, wow! And the sweet potato was the largest produce I've ever seen!!! Can't wait to go back when I'm in the area!

Very decent, had the half BBQ chicken with Memphis fries. I much rather go here than a chain restaurant. I didn't find it exceptional for being a BBQ place, no variety of sauces to choose, and nothing proprietary which is a staple of these types of places. But all in all, very adequate and I would come back.

Been going here for years and still love the food. Big portions, I love the potato salad. The bbq chicken is my favorite entree. Staff is usually friendly and quick to be seated and served.

It was not bad, but also not great. The Memphis fries were tasty. Cole slaw not great. Broccoli slaw OK. Ribs ok, but definitely not smoked on the day we ate there. The wife said the pulled pork sandwich was good and filling. My daughter's hamburger looked like a hockey puck, but she had no complaints. Overall not bad, but we won't be stopping in again.

This place is great. Check it out. Everything was delicious and service was super helpful. Had ribs, pork, onion loaf, cornbread and a beer and def have plenty of leftovers.

Made our first trip yesterday. No complaints, but also not over the top. The chicken cordon bleu was good, as was the pulled chicken barbeque. My wife didn't care for the coleslaw, said the taste seemed to be a bit off. The fried pickles were thin sliced, sort of like french fries. They were tasty, but my wife wanted to see more pickle and less fried. (I liked them, though.) The Memphis fries were good. Service was fast and everyone was pleasant and friendly. The food was hot when served, and the portions were plenty. We'll be back.

I was really hoping to have a great meal...but meh....I've experienced better (the cliche' fits). We got the "Triple" and it was Ok at best. Ribs were done nicely....pulled pork a bit dry, but the chicken was cooked perfectly. You might be wondering why the two star rating then. The sauce...it's WAY overbearing. The person I was with got the sauce on the side....and they weren't happy really....so I had a faste of theirs without the sauce.....and it was WAY to bland. I don't know.....I'm torn. I really wanted to like it......I think i will try again and just stick to a sandwich. For whatever it is worth...quite a few people came to get take out (and a number of them just soup) so maybe that is what the thing to get here is. Staff was friendly enough...not terribly fast. Food was VERY appealing...did look good. Sweet potato was huge, broccoli salad was homemade...was decent....corn bread was enjoyable. NOTE: people sauce BBQ differently....this sauce was heavy on the vinegar taste (more carolina style)...just WAY overbearing. I don't think they use any dry rub as the bland comment. Like I said...I plan to go again...just think I'll stick to sandwiches or soups.

Just ate here for the first time and I did not love it. I ordered a fried chicken sandwich which was so salted that it was not that enjoyable and the salt was the only thing that I could taste. My fiancé ordered the beef brisket sandwich and the meat without the barbecue sauce was a little dry and flavorless. The Memphis fries were good though!

We ordered from here pretty late on a Friday night - just before closing. I got the chicken cordon bleu sandwich and my partner (we are both 32/33 years old) got the beef brisket. My sandwich was not what I expected... It was just a chicken breast with a piece of ham on top. It wasn't as moist as I would have liked but we did order it as take out and this could partially be attributed to the time between preparation and consumption. That being said, it was still satisfying. The brisket was great and the real reason this place gets 4 stars. Large serving, tender, flavorful and just overall pleasant. Both meals came with sides. We got apples, potato salad and cornbread. I can't say much one way or the other about the sides. Nothing stood out in the positive or negative. We would return and if we ate in the restaurant, perhaps we would have been more qualified to give a 5 star rating.

Quaint & delicious! The ribs fell off the bone, the sauce & the cornbread was sweet, the broccoli salad was excellent!! Two thumbs up for the waitress who showed my 4 yo that pigs really do fly! Lol a def revisit to try the onion loaf that smelled so good heading to someone elses table!

The baby back ribs did not taste the way I expected them too. I've had store bought sauce that tasted better than what we were served. We took one bite and just waited for the waitress to come back with the check. Everything was bland and blah. The bread, the macaroni and cheese and beans. My man was also not a fan of the cheddar cheese in the jalapeno poppers. Glad we didn't get any meals for our children.

The food is ok but can be a bit expensive. The staff is friendly, but the bar b q just didn't strike me as more than average.

The wings have fallen off these Pigs! I had the tasteless beef brisket sandwich with two sides (slaw and smoked baked beans). The meat was served warm in a small Styrofoam cup as were the sides. I was disappointed with the lack of flavor and presentation of the sandwich. All the senses (visual, smell, touch and taste) were underwhelmed and unsatisfied.

My husband and I really liked this place. This was a semi-random lunch stop on the drive through DE. We both had the pulled sandwiches, chicken for me and pork for the husband. The meat was tender and the sauce was sweet and a little spicy. Cole slaw was crunchy, potato salad was good, and I loved the broccoli salad-just like my mom makes! They also have sweet tea which is a necessity for me.

I work in Dover and have ordered take out from here a few times (for lunch). I've only ever tried the pulled pork. Which I thought was pretty good, but after reading all these horrible reviews, I'm having second thoughts about going back again. Unfortunately, there are really no good BBQ places to go to in Delaware (if someone knows of a good one, then please enlighten me now!). Today I am craving BBQ and thought about ordering for lunch. I do agree with most of the folks who said the servers were chatty and catty! Each time I phoned in a take-out order, I would arrive 15 minutes later when I was told I could pick up order and STILL had to wait another 10 minutes. During my wait, they all gathered around the hostess stand telling tales of how miserable their lives, kids, jobs, boyfriend, husbands, are. I think all of their sides or unworthy of mention, with the exception of their potato salad and sweet potato fries. I would not waste my time, flavor or calories on anything else. If you are craving BBQ I would suggest only going with the pulled pork. It's much better than the crappy deals you get at fast food restaurants and it is the real deal. Their BBQ sauce isn't all that great and they tend to be over generous with it so I would ask for it on the side so you can apply it yourself. Or ask them to go "lite". Does any one know if restaurants actually READ these reviews? And do you think they care? If not, they should. I would recommend Where Pigs Fly take a serious look at their operation and consider a major overhaul. They have the potential for a really good thing and have sadly missed the boat.

Two stars because the pulled chicken was good. I ate in once and decided it wasn't worth dining in since it seems very dark and outdated. They need to get new tables, chairs and carpet, probably done new table covers too. It's been here forever, and I don't think that they changed the decor since they opened. They catered an event we had and out was ok, nothing to get excited about.

Went last night while in visiting family. Arrived at 8pm they were not busy at all, took at least 20 mins just to get our drinks and take our order, very frustrating as we had a 2,3 & 4 year old with us. Our food did not arrive until after 9pm. Some people in our party received the wrong side items but since it was so late and we waited so long nobody complained. The server was a nice guy but everything was just sooooo slow. The positives: sweet tea was good, fries were good, great mac & cheese, fresh baked bread and corn bread were a hit. My husband enjoyed his meal, not sure about the rest of the party. The negatives: The kids chicken nuggets were lower quality than the cheapest grocery store option and over fried into little hockey pucks, my brisket was very dry and I didn't particularly care for their sauce, 2 members of our party had the cream of crab soup and set it aside after just a bite or two saying it was terrible. We probably wouldn't return to this restaurant which is a shame because we like to support local independent business and love BBQ.

This by far was the worst BBQ experience of our lives. My wife and I both got the beef brisket with mac and cheese for sides and I also got a side of potato salad. The brisket was over cooked and dry. It doesn't help that they smothered it in crap they call BBQ sauce. Even the sauce taste burnt. The only thing barely edible was the potato salad. The cleanliness of the restaurant also was sub par. I take my son to the bathroom and it looks like someone had puked in the urinal 3 days ago snot smeared all over the wall above the urinal. We go to wash and dry our hand and no paper towels and the hand dryer is broke too. Our server was ok but they all would hang around the hostess stand and chatter away about there personal live and I could hear it from across the restaurant. We tell her that the food sucks and the most the manager did was take $6.00 off. He didn't even come over to apologize, he just stayed in the kitchen and seem annoyed that we had even said something. We honestly felt like we were on an episode of Restaurant Impossible. This place needs to be shut down! Never go here!

I wish the owner had been there so I could have told him how to make REAL BBQ! I'm from Dallas and came here for work. Stopped in because I love BBQ. Sign said "voted best in the state". After eating there, I wondered if the voter was the owner's brother. This was the absolute worst BBQ I've ever had. I ordered 2-plate combo w/ sliced brisket, pork ribs with Mac & cheese. Ugh... The beef came out shredded and was about as dry as an old leather shoe. The mac and cheese was cold. The best part of the meal was the fresh baked bread and the cold, over-priced Yuengling beer. Save your money. U can get a better BBQ sandwich at Subway of Buffalo Wild Wings. It was nasty...

food great! ladies room to have a good g.i. party. get real g.i.'s to do that have not forgot what they learned in " basic. " except for that detail this place is great and the food, to die for!

This place was recommended by the locals. Had the Hog Heaven and sister had the pulled pig/chicken combo. The coleslaw was fair but the sweet cornbread was melt in your mouth wonderful (and I'm picky about cornbread). The meat was a nice cut, well cooked and tasty. Thought there was too much sauce dumped on top. The sweet potato fries were also very nice - well cooked but moist inside. All 3 of us were very satisfied with the meal.

My ribs were rock hard and cold and I sent them back twice. The waitress comped my dinner and gave me a brisket sandwich which was ok. Eveything came out at once. The gm acted foolish behind the counter as if it was a place to "hang out" rather than a place of business. Our only saving grace was Casey, our waitress. It must be very irritating for a server as attentive as she is to work in a place like that. No wonder they were dead at 6:00 pm on Fathers Day.

Consistently good food. Staff is nice and well trained. The pulled pork is fantastic and the kitchen keeps the orders moving.

Probably the best BBQ in the Dover area. Generous portions at reasonable prices and they have sweet tea! The pulled pork sandwiches are always a winner and the Memphis fries are always hot. On past trips I've been uber hungry and taken on the two and three meat choice plates and the ribs are always a winner. I've been here more times than I have checked in on yelp, so don't let the limited check ins fool you, I've consumed plenty of BBQ from this joint. Here's my take on it: the meats are always good, the sweet tea is perfect, the coleslaw is decent, the baked sweet potato is worthy; skip the salads as they aren't all that and skip the broccoli slaw. No the food is not eclectic and amazing, but it is good food that won't break the bank; and this is Dover: eclectic doesn't stay around because the populous of the area can't or won't keep it in business. Don't expect the wait staff to hang around and kiss your hamhocks, this is a casual place, not a five-star restaurant; but in my experience the service has always been fine.

We have eaten here many times. The food is good and you get your monies worth. Last week was a different experience. The pulled pork and slaw were not up to par. The wait time was longer than usual even though we went at 1:45. During our meal the waitress appeared with a sweeper and asked the people next to us if they would mind if she ran it. They said they did, but the waitress said it did not make much noise and ran it any way. Did I mention the help here is the pitts!!!!! To top off our visit we were given the BUMS RUSH and nearly pushed out the door. This place has been around for a number of years, but with the quality of help they have can they last?

My wife, daughter, and grand daughter decided to stop and have dinner and agreed on bbq. We have been here before and had a great experience. I had the baby back ribs that were fantastic and my wife had a burger that was just ok. My daughter ordered the chicken salad and we ordered a kids burger for my grand daughter. The server brought all our food except for the kids burger that fell on the floor. They did make another one but it took 20 minutes. My daughters chicken salad had raw chicken so we sent that back and she changed her order to the Texas burger. (I think it was a Texas burger I forget the name) she received that burger before my grand daughter got hers and it was a soggy mess that later made her very sick. Finally my grand daughter received her burger but was to full from bread and fries to eat it. I called on the manager to complain about my daughters burger and he removed it from the bill and apologized about everything and then proceeded to blame everything on the server. I was very confused at that point and asked him if the server was also cooking the food and he just laughed and said no but the server should not have served the food that way. REALLY? ???? At this point I know I'm dealing with a moron. I thanked the server and left her a $ 15 tip and filled out a comment card that I am sure was a waste of time. My advice is to just save your money or go to the Mexican restaurant about 100 yards south.

Not bad bbq, but I have had better. You get a lot for the price. Meats are pretty good, but sometimes a bit fatty. Side are a bit lacking except the broccoli salad that is delicious.

Not many BBQ choices in Dover, so unfortunately after a poor meal here, I actually came back. The brisket was dry both times... like drown it in sauce so you don't choke on it, dry. The service is Dover. Clueless and inattentive. Nice enough when you can get them to come to the table, but that's about it. Your mileage may vary.

Came here for BBQ passing through on a road trip. This place has good food, and some food that didn't quite hit the mark. I got the triple combo to try as much as I could. The chicken was not smoked, and needed the sauce to taste good. Thankfully the sauce has some good flavor. The ribs were ok. Again, they needed the sauce to be good. The pulled pork was the best out of the three and redeemed the meal. I did enjoy the wings and the broccoli salad, and they bring you a good loaf of bread with the meal. It's also nice to have a cold mug of birch beer refilled quickly. The waitress was good and our food came out super fast. But I did notice bickering among the staff in view of the patrons. Keep that stuff professional, gang.

  • Gwynedd D.

The pulled pork was very average to below average. The service was lackluster. We had placed a very large order for a party, in advance. The server who packed it up actually NEVER once looked at me in the face and had to be prompted for the other items that needed to be included in the order. It was not cheap. For such a large-sized order, you'd think we'd have been treated in a somewhat welcoming manner, but no. And so, we never returned. Besides, it is below average bbq.

Dover is a small city on the middle of nowhere. That means the most restaurants are chains. For a mom & pop to survive they need to have a wide appeal. Unfortunately that means dumbing down the menu for the masses. That said, this is a great little BBQ joint that makes consistently good food at a reasonable price. It is on our short list, "very short list" of acceptable 'cheap-eats' in Dover. Skip the fast-food pablum and stop into Where Pigs Fly for some real, all be it a little bit mundane, barbecued meats. PS: Like most BBQ joints, this is primarily a den of carnivorous indulgence, herbivores may be disappointed.

Brisket is super dry. Coffee is not fresh. We went with a group of 10 and it was totally confusing for our waitress. But inside decor is unique.

I am always curious about how all the corners of the US do their BBQ and wanted to check out WPF after reading Yelp reviews. Oh, Dover, if you think this is good BBQ, I invite you to come to Kansas City where your mind will be blown. Here are the players: rack of ribs, pulled pig, brisket, cole slaw, beans. The rack of ribs was ok, they were a little cold and could have used a LOT more sauce. There was no flavor in the meat itself, no smoke, no spice, just cooked meat with sauce. We had to add extra sauce to get some substance. We probably would have gotten better ribs at Applebee's or Chili's. If you're going to be voted best BBQ in Delaware, you have to do better than a chain. The beef brisket just plain sucked. I'm not going to dance around that one. I have never eaten beef brisket that tasted like thick sliced roast beef -- tasted like deli roast beef. Sucked. The pulled pork was the only good (I use that term lightly) thing on the platter and to be honest, it wasn't that good, it was just better than anything else. We thought that the sides may redeem this place. Some people live by the adage that a BBQ joint either has really really good BBQ or really really good sides, rarely both. WPF has its own special place as having neither. Congrats. We ended up taking a doggie bag for the ribs and left the rest on the plate. We had no intentions of eating the leftovers, but I came from a "waste not" family. The BF and I even talked about maybe finding a down-in-his-luck homeless guy and giving it to him, but (1.) I don't think Dover has much of a homeless population from what we saw and (2.) honestly didn't want to subject anyone to this crap. Needless to say, it was left in the hotel fridge. The service was sub-sub-par. We were 1 of 2 tables in the whole place and weren't greeted right away. When we sat at our table, it took a while before we had a server. Sadly, our server didn't redeem herself either. Unfortunately, we were seated just behind the host/server station and had to endure the server conversations. Look, I understand you have issues, but I'm there to dine and I don't care about your personal issues or the fact that no one is willing to pick up your shift next week. I can't enjoy my lackluster food with you yapping behind my ear.

We were in DE the last few days and stopped at this restaurant before we left DE. We told the waitress we had never been there before and recommended the ribs, chicken, and pulled pork. Wonderful! Love the food as well as the service. Our waitress was interested and seemed to enjoy what she did for a living. Went out of her way to make us feel welcome. Next time in Dover, we will definitely go back. Karen

I was in Dover visiting my sister and we decided to eat here. I didn't find it to be all that great. The BBQ was mediocre at best, and the sides were blah. No mac and cheese, which was weird, and my sweet potato tasted funny and didn't seem done. I also found it strange that when we asked for bread, the server said, "it will come out with the food." Um...if I want it now, I should get it now. What ever happened to the customer is always right?

If you enjoy pork this is the place to go. Their prices a slightly high but the food is well worth it. The staff is always friendly. It's a little hard to locate if you aren't from the area but once you find it you wont forget it.

An awesome alternative to the 1001 big box restaurants in the area. We went at lunchtime and were seated immediately by a friendly host. It was a quick meal- we just had entrees. Mine was a pulled pork sandwich, which was appropriately messy and delicious. The meat was perfect- juicy, flavorful. They did not saturate it with sauce like some KFC drive thru - they didn't need to. My "Memphis Style" fries were deliciously seasoned and pipping hot. Even the pickle was good- or maybe I was just really, really hungry. The place is filled with pig memorabilia (in case you forget what you're eating?) so don't bring your vegetarian or kosher-keeping friends. Best Part: The food, as described above, and the feeling that the place is not trying to be something it isn't. It is very down-homey. The menu was a placemat, the lemonade arrived in a jar like at my grandmother's house. It's informal and fun, and appropriately cheap- our 2 entrees and soft drinks came out to around $15. Worst Part: Draft beer comes in 16, 32 or 64 ounce sizes. Granted the small size costs $2.75, but can't I just get a pint? Well, at least they have beer. Also- a large woman at the table next to us was having an obnoxiously loud cell phone conversation. Lord, why?

Brisket was tough, dry and sure didn't taste hickory smoked. Poor service, pulled pork wasn't very tasty either. Over priced for such poor quality and size of the serving. Won't be back.

These guys do a good job at BBQ even if they dont smoke their meat. The baked beans were pretty good. They offer a combo plate of Baby Back Ribs and brisket that's not on the menu. My children attacked their BBQ kids plate like they were starving. My wife had the chicken sandwich which was bland and a little dry. The service was good and we were promptly sat at lunch time. The decor is in line with a BBQ place and the pig theme was entertaining. Definitely will return.

20 years ago, this was a good pizza restaurant. Me thinks it should have remained the same! Service was good, BUT: ONE type of BBQ sauce... the flavor bland and, possibly, out of a bottle. Ribs had more sauce than meat, and the brisket sandwich was actually chunks of a beef roast on a cold bun. Loaf of bread they served with the "platter" of scant food was the best part of the meal.

These guys make delicious pulled pork, BBQ ribs, and wings. I really like their sauces and the ribs are always tender. Last time I went there I got the pulled pork and pulled chicken combo because I'd never had pulled chicken. Now I know that pulled pork is 100x better! Just stick to what's good here (pulled pork, ribs, and buffalo chicken wings) and you'll have a great meal. If you like a lot of BBQ sauce you may need to order a side dish of extra sauce. Their default is to go light on the BBQ sauce but they're happy to provide more if you just ask!
