So glad to find a bakery that has moist cupcakes, I have been to this bakery a few times and usually I get there to late and there sold out. I went yesterday and was finally able to purchase them. So much better than the cupcakes at other places like The Drunk'n baker in Smyrna & the other bakery in Middletown that I have tried several times and am always disappointed.

For anyone in Dover looking for fresh bread, this place is the ONLY place you need to look. The breads are incredible. That being said, the pastries and service leave something to be desired. I bought an assortment on my first visit since the place changed ownership. The rye bread was perfect! Their bread baker is the original owner, and he's got the Midas touch with breads. That being said, the pastries were little more than commercial confections, dolled up to look home made. The carrot cake was likely a Sysco product, and they only applied a dollop of icing to make the carrot on each piece. The cannoli were commercially available shells with canned (or tub) filling. Anything with a fruit filling was from a can, I can guarantee it. Getting Boar's Head cold cuts was a plus, however, sandwich times and the availability of toppings is often hit or miss. If they're out of onion after the lunch rush, you're out of luck. The brotchen (another spectacular bread product) sells so fast, you can't get it for a sandwich after noon. Parking is usually good, since the place is empty except for lunch time. I've found that the workers are mostly the same as with the prior owner, but they're not as enthusiastic now. I've heard rumors of unsanitary situations and other unsavory issues, but the owner seems to keep everything under wraps with an iron curtain... uhm, fist. During my recent visits, I saw the owner ( a tall, bottle-dyed platinum blonde) yelling at the workers, and coming off with belittling comments loud enough for the customers to hear. I don't see how they put up with it. In short, if it weren't for the bread baker, the place would be little more than a Royal Farms with much higher prices. I can get carrot cake at Redner's that has more flavor and pay less than ¼ the price. I understand they started offering dog treats on the shelves, but nobody can tell me if any of the items are made for dogs, or if it's just labeled for dogs. There are no certifications or list of ingredients, so if Fido ends up dead, you're on your own. I'm not impressed with anything aside from the breads, so I won't be spending my hard earned cash on anything pastry-related. Entenmann's suits me just fine (and SO much cheaper).

Best bread and sandwiches around. Almond croissants are great and are cookies. I like the spritz cookies but somedays they are better than others. They just added cupcakes which people say are great. You can order a cake they don't really have them out for purchase like you would find at a place in wilmington. I got a dessert tray once with brownies, cannolis, and cookies which was great. Wish they had cute cookies for kids.

Moved to 323 S Governors Ave, a better address. Same delicious breads & cakes, more sammidges. New owner, but still has the talented Andy baking the goodies.

We bought a dozen cupcakes for a party here. A mix of turtle and coconut. They were amazing!! Everyone loved them. Yes, they are more expensive ($28/dozen) than grabbing some at Walmart, but well worth every penny! Real buttercream people! Plus, you are supporting a local small business, who can beat that? Everything they had there looked awesome, and I can't wait to go back to try more.

What can I say that has not been said? The food here is fantastic! They are friendly with great prices. It's a great place to get a quick bite for lunch or what ever. The deserts are excellent as well!

You can imagine my giddiness when moving to Smyrna from NYC - I came upon this little gem of a bakery. The rye bread is every bit as delicious as Steins on Old Country Road. I've been told the secret to delicious bread is the "WATER". Not sure how Frankfurts does it but it is the real deal people!!!

When you eat a sandwich you get twice as much bread as any other ingredient, my favorite sandwich shops tend to be the ones that bake their own bread. It should be no surprise then that Franfurt Bakery turns out to be a pretty awesome little deli. In lieu of making their own cold cuts (which would be truly outstanding though not very practical), they go with Boar's Head products, which seem to be the standard when you're looking for slightly above average deli meats. And while the muenster and liverwurst was indeed pretty good (going with a German theme here), the bread -as is always the case - is what made the sandwich. Ordering is a simple process - write your order on the piece of paper, wait five to ten minutes (long enough to make a couple of impulse buys from the bakery case - the canoli and pâte à choux were very nice) and you get it all neatly wrapped in foil and are on your way. Easy. Given the lack of little neighborhood bakeries like these in Dover, I have no trouble believing its amongst the best in the city.

There just simply is no better bakery in all of delaware.

Picture yourself in The Fatherland, strolling in the pre-dawn along cobbled streets 'twixt half-timbered shops and houses. Snow is gently frosting the awnings of this quiet street's buildings, and in this twilight time you espy the sun just cresting the horizon of the forested hills. Lo, you smell the delicious aroma of brötchen (small rolls) and other fresh-baked goods wafting from a nearby bakery. You stop in to enjoy the smells, and pick up a bag of fresh bread along with a savory breakfast sweet, perhaps a puddingschnecke, kirschtasche, or some other "kleingebäck." As you bite into your delectable baked good, the light, sweet taste is revelatory, making you wonder why in your former, American life you ever tolerated the primitive doughballs doled out by Dunkin' Donuts. If this Teutonic fantasy I've described is at all to your liking, then you really do owe it to yourself to go to the Frankfurt Bakery. Granted, the neighborhood's ambiance will leave quite a bit to be desired - this is Dover, after all. Step inside the four walls of the Frankfurt Bakery, however, and you may be fooled for a moment into thinking you've arrived in that country where commitment to craft and quality can be tasted at every corner bakery. Buy a delicious baked good, close your eyes, and let your mouth tell you where you are instead of your eyes and ears. The thumping cacophony of the ghettoblasting cars driving by will fade away, and you will enter that European bliss which you'd normally need to traverse an ocean to experience. The few dollars you spend on a tart or cookie at the Frankfurt Bakery will be worth every penny. Do not wait. Do this today. Live the dream.

Yum! I hear they're under new management, but I never made it here before now, so I'm not sure what's different. I do know it was the best bread I'd had in a long time. The challah with golden raisins is to die for.

I wish I had discovered this before I did the Amish market...I spent way too much money there when really it isn't even comparable to this awesome bakery and sandwich place. If you get a sandwich try the pretzel buns, they're amazing.

This is a great, local bakery. The fact that it's German appeals to the rest of my family, but it's just good. We order all of our family birthday cakes here. They are awesome... I'm sure to get fat as hell because of this place, but at least I'll be happy!

A small bakery and friendly customer service. I wasn't sure if I can consider it a German bakery it had cannelloni and muffins. I was disappointed and missed my variety of Brötchen and Teilchen and Kuchen. Why Not stay authentic?

Hours of operation for Saturday are incorrect. Bakery was closed when we got there at 11:30am.

Hands down my favorite find of the year! I had their tutti fruiti cake by way of a co-worker a few months ago. Amazing! I recently tried their cookies (oatmeal and their chocolate chip are the BEST!) and cupcakes. Oh, be still my beating heart! Most of the staff is very nice, although I wish they were a bit more attentive and friendly.
