I ordered 2 Eggs over medium, home fries, bacon and an English Muffin. The eggs were way to gooey, no crispy edges and even the white part was still gooey. Not the way I prefer my eggs. Maybe I just have a different understanding on what "over medium" means lol. The home fries were soggy even though we ordered them extra crispy, it was almost like they already made them early and then just reheated them in the microwave. Same with the bacon. I was prepared to wait 20-25 min to get my food and to know that it was fresh but instead we didn't even have to wait 5 mins for it to come out, no wonder. The only thing that was really good was the Farmhouse Omelet. Orange juice and English muffin were also decent. Very nice location, view over the lake was beautiful and there were tons of ducks in the parking lot which was pretty cool. Overall, not the best breakfast place but maybe I just ordered the wrong food for my taste.

My fiance and I came in midday on a Sunday. It wasn't exceptionally busy, as there were some tables that were open, and we were seated right away. It took almost a half hour for our server to come by to bring us water, after many other servers came by assuring us that she would be over in just a minute. Our food took just as long to come out; I ordered a turkey club and my fiance ordered eggs and both of our meals were forgettable, and in my opinion, overpriced for what we got. I would not return or recommend this place.

Nice family style restaurant. A gem if you ask me (or read this review). First visit was at night. Our order included: Liver...great (she's been back numerous times for this dish) Grilled seafood platter...very very good Fried seafood platter...not so good. Service...home-style ecceptional! Visit during the day...magical...it was raining and sitting in the warm, cosy room with family chatter around us while looking out onto the wonderful lake view was a *get back to bed* moment for me, it was so cosy and peaceful. Our brunch were large muy yummy portions! Service once again was exceptional. In fact except for our hotel stay, we've been very pleased with the service received while we visited the community of Dover. We'll be back. Family lives here anyway so....lol The End

Food was great my waitress Shannon was very attentive. Have to stop in if you're in the area.

The best place for breakfast/brunch any day of the week. Cheap combo meals for $8-11 with more food than you can eat. Eggs all fresh and done to order. Bacon, sausage and even scrapple come out crispy but not burnt. Waffles, pancakes, and french toast are all delicious (and they don't RUIN the french toast with cinnamon either - bonus). Cannot believe we even considered eating at IHOP before leaving the ridiculous line to come here. Although there still IS a line and the parking lot always looks jam packed, they cycle people in and out really quickly and even on Saturdays and Sundays at peak hours I've never waited more than 10 minutes for a table. Not bad to wait out side and look at the lake and ducks roosting nearby either. Very cute location and on the money for laid back comfort food.

Popular breakfast joint, not too far from the Air Mobility Command museum. I got the corned beef hash with eggs and wife got an omelet of some sort. Standard good country food. They provided paper and crayons for my daughter, wish is always much appreciated.

The steak & egg breakfast was described as including a New York Strip. The cut was super thin. I asked for medium, but received well done. I was unable to enjoy the breakfast. My partner's french toast breakfast was fine. Prices were low enough we also ordered a crabcake dinner to sample/share. It was fine.

Countrie Eatery is a great place for breakfast with nice views of the lake from part of the dining room but the rest of the menu isn't anything special and the service is just okay. If you're looking for a breakfast place in Dover, this place is one of the best. Everything I've ordered has been great but I think it's pretty hard to screw up breakfast (even though it happens elsewhere). I love that they use sliced red potatoes for their home fries. Their breakfast menu is just one page long, a feature I love, but has everything you'd expect from a place serving breakfast. Where they fall flat is the lunch and dinner menu and the service which has never been great. There's nothing wrong with anything on the non-breakfast menus but everyone I've ever gone with agrees that they've never been impressed. The service is okay but it's not always the friendliest. Not to say that the server has ever been mean or dismissive, they just don't seem happy to be there which brings a damper on the experience. Go for breakfast and ask to sit in the dining room by the lake, this will give you the best experience at the Countrie Eatery

Went on a Wednesday in late July at 1pm. Pretty crowded. Situated on a lake. Country vibe, as the name implies. Had breakfast. It was OK. Poached eggs on crab cakes on English muffins. Would I go out of my way to go back? No. But try it if you're in the area.

Not very good, bland, oily potatoes, eggs bland seemed as if they watered down to make omelet bigger, and charge extra for cheese, hunts ketchup in packets at table, ugh

Cruisin' on a Saturday morning for a hearty breakfast. Found it! This place is right on a lake with a lovely view. Breakfast was great. Eggs fried over easy, 2 delicious peppery sausage links and home fries. With choice of toast or fresh baked muffin. Want to try muffin next time. I'm a fan!

Arrived at early afternoon mid-week and were surprised to only see 3 other occupied tables. Once we sat down and waited and waited, did I say waited for a waitress, it was easy to understand why there were so few customers. Ordered hot sandwiches and of course waited and waited. Of course this wait gave us the opportunity to note the layers of dust on everything in the corners as well as a general grubbiness all round. Frankly I really wanted to leave but I was hungry. The food when it finally arrived was not worth the wait. Lousy service, questionable cleaning and under-average food = find another spot.

Solid food, awesome customer service! Third time here for breakfast. Consistent and truly country feel. Food is fresh. Can't go wrong with any of the specials!

General breakfast here yesterday morning. It was ok, but nothing too sing about. I would look for breakfast elsewhere if you're looking for a returner. It was a little expensive for the quality you get too.

We enjoyed a very nice breakfast by the lake. The banana pancakes were excellent as was the countrie omelet.

A great family place to go and have breakfast or brunch! The service is very friendly and the food is nice. The portions are perfect and the quality does not lack even though the food comes out fast. I would definitely return and recommend that anyone wanting get a nice quiet breakfast in Dover stop at the Country Eatery.

Upon entering I was a bit skeptical but I'm glad I stayed. This was the best scrapple I have ever eaten. It could have been cooked a bit more crisp but the flavor was excellent. Great coffee and the service was good. I would come back if I'm ever in the area again.

Finally found a place worth getting up and going to breakfast for! Homely and comfortable inside. Great food and service!

This was our first visit to Countrie Eaterie. Everyone was friendly. The food was great. We both had creamed chipped beef over toast with home fries. And sides of bacon. The bacon was AWESOME!!! We are bacon nuts. LOL. Loved the location right beside Silver Lake. It would have been a prettier scene but it was raining. Still a nice peaceful place to dine. Nice music. Saw some ducks swim by too.

The prices were average and the food okay - service always seems slow. Decor needs to be updated. Pretty location by the lake.

  • Mika B.

If you love breakfast, you'll love this place. It has a homey feel to it right in front of the lake. The service was fast and the food is delicious! I had eggs Benedict and home fries:) super good! I was worried since a lot of reviews were saying there were lots of older people, it being in DE, I've ran into some unspoken racism and I thought that it would be kind of racist, but it's not at all. The staff is friendly and very prompt. I would recommend eating here for sure:)

It's hard to mess up breakfast but as much as I travel for business, my taste buds and lingual receptors are keen to ehhh food. Not impressed with the breakfast and my significant other, who eats ANYTHING was so dissatisfied, he couldn't finish his meal. The waitress took forever with the food and it wasn't worth the price. We enjoyed the water and the ducks but its just not what we expected to have so many "good" reviews. Not impressed.

  • Yasmin K.

A great small home-town / mom and pop kinda place. The service was amazing and food was equally good. When we sat down we realized that seats all the way toward the back overlook the water so try to score seats there- it's a pretty good view!

Our disappointment began with the hostess whose dour demeanor almost sent us out the door...if only we had trusted our instincts. But, no, we decided to rely on other Yelp reviews. Usually sound strategy, this time Yelp Nation let us down. Grades: Food: 2 stars Service: 1 star Cleanliness: 1 star View: 3 stars (due to the ducks) Food: it's hard to screw up breakfast, but the cooks at Countrie Eatery succeed! Home fries underdone; don't bother asking for them cooked with onions (listed as an option on the menu), because what you'll get is raw onions sprinkled on top. Bacon was 90% fat, with a thin strip of meat in there...somewhere. Grapefruit juice on the menu, but ordering such elicited a "hon, we don't have that" from the waitron. Coffee was terrible...even for diner-level coffee. Toast was cold and under-toasted...and soggy. Service: surly hostess, clueless waitron, slow...slow...slow, and the restaurant was not crowded. Cleanliness: bathrooms are disgusting. Hold it 'til you get home. View: nice view of the lake and plenty of ducks to look at. We saved the soggy toast for their enjoyment. Spelling: zero stars. That should have been an indicator of what was to come. I don't often think, "Gee, the food and service at Denny's or IHOP would have been better," but that exactly what my experience at the Countrie [sic] Eatery led me to. Go elsewhere for breakfast.

While driving through the area and with the help of YELP reviews we stopped at the Countrie Eatery for breakfast. We were not disappointed. Atmosphere was nice, right on the lake. Food and service were excellent. We would defintely go back if ever in the area again.

Great views of the lake and love the homey overall feel here. Servers are helpful and on point. Food here has always been delicious but I've only had breakfast here. The cashier can be a little smug sometimes and acts like she doesn't care about anything else besides taking your money. Would it hurt if you smiled? Ever?

    (4)
  • Jason W.

The food here is good. The service seems better for the regulars they know by name than the rest of the customers but is in the acceptable range. The prices are very high for the portions and type of food. Breakfast for 3 should not cost over fifty dollars. The brow of the lake is nice but not worth the price.

  • Aleisha H.

I saw a lot of great reviews for the restaurant so hubby & I decided to go check out the restaurant. Went on a Saturday morning for breakfast. I was not overwhelmed by the food or the service. My food had to go back to the kitchen because the kitchen did not make the eggs over medium. This is not a special request. My toast was burnt as well. The service was lack luster. Once the food did come back correctly, I no longer wanted to eat, therefore I can not say the food was good or bad. Maybe we went on a bad day.....I don't know. We will not return.

Great Food, Great Atmosphere and all around Great place to Mete with Friends or a Business Event. The food is freshly prepared to order and served by a friendly wait staff. The deserts freshly baked on premise and if you are a pie lover then make sure to leave some room in your belly for a slice. You may want to bring a pie home with you. Just ask your server. I recommend the Countrie Eatery for those who just Love to eat good old fashioned hometown Delaware Cooking. ENJOY!!!!

IHOP... Bob Evans... those are places where you "eat". This is a place you enjoy. The people, the food, the atmosphere make this a destination. We had a truly relaxing meal that made a great start to the day. I had the Brits breakfast... two eggs, 2 perfectly cooked eggs, grilled tomatoes and toast. And frequently refreshed coffee served by a polite and friendly waitress. Menu selection is just right - variety of staples with local additions. And this place is super clean and well maintained. Give this place a try... And for those who comment about "old people" - bring more young people with you.

I ordered fried oysters and they came heavily breaded, to the point that you couldn't really taste the oyster. Kind of defeats the purpose of ordering them. My boyfriend ordered a traditional breakfast of sausage, eggs, pancakes, and home fried potatoes. His plate looked tasty and satisfying. The service was fast and friendly, the decor is homey, and the view of the lake is magnificent. I would return, but only to order breakfast.

We were looking for a nice place for breakfast and yelp helped us find this cute restaurant with beautiful grounds on a lake. the food was tasty and well cooked. Service was flawless. Can't wait to try them for lunch!

The wife loved it. I didn't think it was all that great. Its very popular though, we had to wait for about 15 minutes. I had eggs benedict which was super meh. Coffee was free flowing. Lots of elderly people which is not a negative at all but usually speak to the blandness of the food in my experience. It was a correct supposition again. I'll go back if the wife makes me otherwise I would probably avoid it honestly just based on the food.

This place needs a major over haul. Our had old decor and just doesn't seem clean, old dishes, old glasses, old customers. I've been twice. Once I went with my family and my husband said he felt uncomfortable so we left before being served. The next time I went with a group of ladies and had omelet. Nothing great about it. Will never go back.

Awesome service. Awesome staff. Fantastic food and great coffee. It was a long weekend and this place treated us great and was quick in delivering food. Plus the lake in the back made it for a great setting.

One of the few places in the Dover vicinity serving brunch. The scrapple was different than I'm used to, but the portion was huge. The sausage and crispy bacon were delicious, the home fries were good, and the french toast was pretty good. I would pass on the pancakes, though. Sit by the windows facing the water and watch as people feed the birds.

Breakfasts were very good and not greasy. Roast beef was dry, but I like it like that. Husband does not. Server was very nice and brought out the kids meals first and fast! Real ice tea too. Always a plus.

I'm reviewing BREAKFAST. For lunch or dinner, you are on your own. I think this is the best breakfast in all of Dover. Now, I realize, considering the utterly depressing state of cuisine (I mean, cooking) in Dover, that's not saying a lot, but I've eaten breakfast here for almost a decade about once a month, and it's been great. I agree, they are absolutely clueless on scrapple, but the rest of the breakfasts are excellent. I like the french toast, the pancakes are huge, but I either get the Aegean Omelet (huge, with tomatoes and feta) or the "Brit's Breakfast". This has eggs your way, toast, fried (sauteed) tomatoes and the pale sausages called "Bangers" (though I don't think they really are bangers, probably a Kirby & Holloway pork product.) The service is always friendly and warm. The view of the lake and the flying waterbirds is cheery in the morning. The parking can look cramped (and downright dangerous on the lakeside--I'm waiting for some drowsy patron to hit DRIVE instead of REVERSE and end up in the drink) but there is a SECOND parking lot on the other side of the building, inside the entrance you missed when you turned into the main one. Just circle round back the building and you'll find more parking.

My friend and I stopped here on our way to check in for the Firefly Music Festival. This was the cutest find! It was early, so we were the first customers in. The staff were so friendly! They gave us space in the beginning of the meal, but when the food arrived, they all came over to chit chat. I ordered the eggs, home fries, bacon, and french toast. All we fantastic! The eggs were even scrambled loose just the way I like them. My friend got the same thing but with the pancakes, they were huge! While the food is great, the scenery and hospitality from the owners and staff are what really make this place. The lake in the back has ducks and geese, it was very peaceful and relaxing. And if you get there early enough (about 6:45am), you'll see a lady who comes to feed the ducks and geese every morning. It's hilarious to see them all hustle out of the water and start running as soon as they see her car!

Let me start this by saying I am genuinely not a picky person. We arrived and were seated quite quickly. It took about 10 minutes to have our drink orders taken. One of the waitresses took our drink orders, and then about another 10 minutes later we received our drinks from another waitress. After giving us our drinks she asked us, "What do you want?". I began feeling very uncomfortable and we all felt rushed to give her our orders. I made a mistake with my order and she rudely corrected me. When she refilled my son's drink she pushed past him with a carafe and then shoved the carafe on the table in front of my other son. She then later asked if we needed refills in a very brusque manner. I don't know if anything I can say could really depict the horrible service we received. All told, we were there for approximately 55 minutes, and only received drinks. I spoke with the manager on the floor and stated that we would like to just pay for our drinks and leave. She had asked me previously if anything was wrong and I said, "No.". I did not want to cause any trouble. She then proceeded to get smart with me and ask me why I didn't tell her before. My suggestion is give it 20 minutes, if it doesn't get any better, leave cause it's not going to get any better. As you can see, we're not picky people we were there for almost an hour. Is it possible to put up a negative star rating? I'd give it a -2. That's a very generous rating.

We've been eating here since the beginning - always for breakfast, almost always with extended family. It's that kinda place, a nice atmosphere for relaxing over a shared breakfast with people you don't always see as much as you should. I admit it. Being the creature of habit that I am, I've only ever had one meal there. It's so good, I've had it a few times a year for the past 24 years. It's called "The Little Creek". Two poached eggs over two crabcakes on two halves of an English muffin, all topped with Hollandaise sauce. Served with home fries on the side, but I hardly ever eat those. Never mind that I'm originally from Kenton (they have a meal named after them, too). The Little Creek is where it's at. This is not fine dining. It's down home country eatin'. And over the years, they've migrated into some annoying habits that I don't remember from the years before I moved away and came back, like serving condiments in packets - ketchup, sugar, half and half, etc... I'm sure it's probably a money/time saver for them, but it contributes to the fastfoodification (I made that word up) of the restaurant scene and I hate it. But the food's still good, even if I have to hold my nose as I use packeted condiments. And if you've never been here, or been past here, I should point out that it's right on the shore of Silver Lake, with a great view. Parking can be a bit tight since they closed the old Blue Coat Inn, blocked off the parking lot both restaurants used to more or less share, and eventually opened up a McGlynn's over there. I drive a full sized pickup truck and I often park across the street in the Big Lots parking lot to save myself the hassle of the Countrie Eaterie lot - I figure I can leave the close spots to the old folk and avoid the nail biting process of squeezing past people who parked clumsily, because there really isn't much extra room for maneuvering.

I frequently have breakfast in this place. I would like to rate "BREAKFAST VALUE FOR MONEY" as excellent Breakfast has "home made taste", and their coffee is great. Service is friendly and prompt. If I have to give it a negative, is the long line-wait, particularly on Sundays after church services. But again, that is a good sign that the locals like their country cooking". I cannot speak for lunch or dinner because I usually go there just for breakfast. The Silver Lake view is calming, and makes this place "perfect for a great home-cooked breakfast".

    (5)
  • LD K.

Nice view If you get a window table overlooking Silver Lake. I love that all the specials on the menu are named after small towns in Delaware (nice touch for a local business) Now for my opinion of the food since this is a "countrie eatery". I have ate here about a dozen times and ALWAYS get "Little Creek". Two poached eggs and crabcakes on English muffin covered in a Hollandaise sauce...with a side of bacon. I have always had good experience and plan to return many more times in the future. (the only reason it got 3 and not 4 stars is I'm not that crazy about the home fries...but that's just my opinion)

I just read the other reviews before I write mine. Discounting the youngster who does not like hanging around old people, the reviews were decent, but with fairly low ratings. My wife and I ate lunch there today. We found the place by accident, having just come out of the Big Lots parking lot almost directly across the street. We lost our favorite restaurant in Dover when a Viet Namese place changed owners. SO, we were looking for another restaurant that was not a chain. As we walked through the door, we saw the daily specials. My wife happily noticed that one lunch special was broiled fresh sea trout. I LOVE sea trout and very rarely see it in a restaurant (or grocery, for that matter). It WAS FRESH, and it was cooked PERFECTLY! My fish came with two sides AND dessert ... Creme Brule. The dessert was also PERFECT - my only complaint ... The creme brule was HUMUNGOUS. Big enough for three people. My wife had a meatball and cheese sub. She is fussy about both meatballs and tomato sauce. She liked BOTH and thought the the sub could not have been better. She had rice pudding for dessert. The waitress kindly sprinkled raisins on top. We like raisins in our rice pudding. Two entrees, three sides, two beverages, two desserts all for LESS THAN $20.00!!!! That brings me to the service. Our waitress, "Stephanie," was WONDERFUL. She was attentive without being annoying. She took care of ALL our needs cheerfully and promptly. BTW, as mentioned in another review, the restaurant has a beautiful view of Silver Lake. Countrie Eatery sits on the edge of the lake. In Dover? Want a fresh cooked meal that is also a bargain? Try the Countrie Eatery and ignore the old folks. Remember, you are not getting any younger!!

I'm honestly not quite sure why this place has so many high ratings. Immediately upon entering the restaurant, my friends and I smelled something weird, but couldn't quite figure out what it was. After we ordered, I began scanning the room's decor and realized what I was smelling. They had figurines, pictures, and all sorts of other things relating to cats within the restaurant. The smell I was smelling was cat urine/a litter box. Absolutely disgusting smell to endure while trying to eat breakfast. I even wonder if that is some sort of health code violation. As for the food, it was mediocre at best. I had the Monte Cristo sandwich, my friends both had a regular breakfast of eggs/pancakes, etc. Very hard to mess up, but it was just "meh".

  • Doug G.

Made a reservation for 8 people so we could have a breakfast meeting. Table was waiting for us, quiet corner of restaurant, plenty of space, and service was outstanding. We all ordered something different but the sweet potato pancakes were especially good! Highly recommend. We'll be back. We've tried the chains and hotels in Dover. This place is a keeper!

The location is nice, right on the water, but the food is just mediocre. Good service, friendly waitress, but mediocre food.

  • John B.

Maybe "family style" restaurants aren't for me. While I have nothing against old people, a high concentration of super elderly at a spot like this almost guarantees that the food will be bland pap. The pancake was decent. The breakfast meats, however, were unsatisfactory. Undercooked bacon and overcooked scrapple. An egg requested over hard came very runny. And I was distracted by the teenaged zombie busboy who tranced around the restaurant with a vacant expression on his face for the entire 40 minutes we were there. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that he just carried the same plate around the restaurant in circles. As to what really matters, though: the food doesn't cut it at Countrie Eatery.

Basic down home fair. Try the orange cow.

  • Betty M.

This neighborhood diner leaves me nothing to brag about, it's just quite average. The view of Silver Lake, even though its man made is a nice backdrop. They do give hearty portions and can easily serve as dinner that evening.

    (3)
  • Holli F.

Definately the best option in the area for breakfast. The sausage is perfect and doesn't hang around the whole day reminding you it's there. The home fries are the best thing on the menu and worth stopping in for! My kiddos love the orange cows, but what kid wouldn't love ice cream with breakfast!?! The lady who seats you is definately a downer. Try not to pay attention to her sour disposition. The servers are sweet and kind and usually there with everything you need. A much better option than the chain!

  • Edward I.

This place is right off route 13, we found it by accident while on the way to another restaurant. The view of Silver Lake from the main dining area is great. Parking is ample and the food isn't expensive. It has a "at home feeling", they have family friendly jokes on their bulletin board for people waiting, One of the clocks have the hands rotating backwards. It was a friendly atmosphere. The tables aren't placed close together, so you're not bumping into anyone. I'd visit it often if I lived in the area.
