Husband just came home from here with 1 doz. x-large crabs, which we pre-ordered earlier in the day for a 4 p.m. pick up. When he got there, at 4:00 he ordered a pound of large shrimp, steamed as well. He waited for over 45 minutes which doesn't seem quite right. When he was handed the shrimp he questioned whether or not it was a pound as it was in a small Styrofoam takeout sandwich container. He was assured it was a pound. By the time he got home and opened the bag that the crabs were in, they were not even a bit warm. We only live 15 minutes away so we can only assume that the 45 minutes he waited were not spent steaming the crabs. When we looked at the x-large crabs we were a little surprised, they seemed kind of small. We measured a few and the largest one we could find was 6" -the rest were 5 to 5-1/2" which is not x-large in my book. We have a digital food scale and we put the shrimp, container and all, on the scale. It weighed 10.5 ozs. In addition if those shrimp were large, I would have hated to see their medium. He immediately called and spoke to Joanne who basically told him to count the shrimp which made no sense to me. If you order a pound of shrimp you are supposed to get a pound of shrimp -minus the weight of the container. She proceeded to tell him that you get a certain amount of shrimp in a pound. Does this mean they count your shrimp instead of weighing it?? When I go to the grocery store and ask for a pound of shrimp the clerk weighs it on a scale. I paid for a pound of shrimp, I want a pound of shrimp. She did offer to give us 6 ozs. of shrimp and a credit if we brought the crabs back. We declined as we did not want to make another trip. We just decided that we will go elsewhere from now on. The crabs were below so-so. One was hollow, none were really that meaty. We are not picky people, but when you pay good money for seafood, you would like to get what you pay for, that's all, no more no less. Very disappointed.
Delicious seafood! Place is not to be judged by appearance. Don't be deceived! A+++ Got the steamed clams and shrimp. The shrimp were to die for. :)
I'm shocked this place has 5-star reviews. The people there are nice, but the crabs were overcooked and some were close to not even legal size. My order for 2 bushels was ready when I arrived, but overall disappointing. Probably not going here again, too many $35 all-you-can-eat deals out there where the crabs are better.
Came here for late lunch/dinner. Was very impressed with the interior/ decor. Kind of industrial chic. Very nice with clean bathrooms. They even have an outdoor patio. They have a really cool bloody Mary bar. Ordered drinks that we so sweet they were undrinkable. When we mentioned an issue with the drinks and asked for replacements we were given an unbelievable attitude. Then we were ignored for a good half hour. They sat on our food order. Four tables that came in after us by 30 minutes were served food and we waited another 20+ before getting just sandwiches. We watched order after order come out and we waited. After almost an hour we got sandwiches. You are kidding me? We were getting ready to leave when they finally brought food. The food, especially for the prices, was disappointing at best. Fries were overdone and both sandwiches were just OK. The salmon BLT was one filet with lettuce and tomato cut in half. Very small portion cut in half for just under $13. Salmon was fishy. The apps were all around $9 a pop-- The potato pancakes were also just OK but the best thing we had. There was nothing about this experience that was good, other than the decor. My advice would be not to waste your money here, especially with the bad service and attitudes. Nice place, bad service and expensive food. I guess you can treat customers like crap when you are the only restaurant open in town. I'll try Crabby Dicks when they reopen but won't come back here. You only have to give me attitude once. Very petty about the drinks and got dirty looks (for real) from all the wait staff. So disappointing and took forever, I want my two hours back and my $50+ bucks! Not worth a ride from philly.
Went on a sunny Saturday.following a funeral...we took advantage of the patio for a gorgeous day...so sad...the tables still had the remains of the previous patrons....(no they were not busy) so we had to wait while they cleaned...the food was ordinary but overwhelmed by the smell from the dumpsters behind the fence next to the patio .. If you complain here ...look out
Great addition to Delaware City! Small menu but the food is excellent and the beer selection is very good. So happy to have a brew pub so close. The service was excellent and they did a fantastic job on renovations.
Ok, the only reason I keep going back is because it's only about a block from my house. On a nice day the view of the water from the deck is beautiful. Everytime I try to give the food another chance I am disappointed. We ordered the 5.99 burger special the other night (for take-out) and had a drink at the bar while waiting. The rolls where dry and stale, and the burger was also dried out with very little flavor. I didn't even finish it all. The 5.99 is for a BURGER only. Fries are extra. As I said before, Crabby's is a once in a while treat. The food tends to be hit or miss. Maybe if you go you will have a better experience. I live in town and negative experiences here tend to be the norm for me and my friends. EVERYTHING here is expensive. And you don't get much quantity for your $$$. Stay away from the spiced up "crabby popcorn". Oh it's pretty good but so salty and spicy you will be forced to buy more beverages. But...if you're looking for a touristy place to hang out while visiting Delaware City then Crabby's offers the nicest atmosphere. Depending on the chef and the day of the week tho, you're taking a gamble with the quality of your food. If you plan on drinking, make sure you come with a full wallet! Your bill will be high! If you go on a Thursday night, say hello to Mishna who runs the karaoke. That's really the only thing worth doing there at Crabby's.
Nice atmosphere on the deck. Definitely a great place to grab drinks and chill with friends. Service was mediocre but the manager definitely made up for it. She was all over the place and still had time to check on each and every table! Good menu options even for those that don't like seafood.
We were driving down to "Slower" Delaware from Brooklyn, NY to hang out at a friends beach house when we got a hankering for crabs. Generally when we get that far past Jersey, we go to another crab shack. But our usual was off the beaten path. Using our trusty hand held devices, and a memory my friends childhood of a place his mom used to take him way back in the day, we found Crabby dicks (in a different spot than when my friend used to go as a tiny child). Twice I've been here, and both times, I was in awe. Maybe it's because we were so far from home and were in awe of the place or maybe each time we happened upon the place they wer having a good night - whatever the case, this place rocks. From all the dirty innuendos and puns on the menu (Crabby Dicks wife's name is Anita Dick - comon!!!) to the ridiculous amount of crabs you can get for less than a dozen oysters in NYC. The service was what was to be expected for a small town; at least to us it was great and they loved that we loved the place. They have fun merchandise and pretty decent entrees if you're not a crab person, too. If you find yourself heading south towards Rehoboth or Delarware City from the Tri-state area and you're itching for a home town feel and crabs, this place is a slight detour off the highway and worth the trip.
