    I love this place, it's not only survived in this neighborhood for over 20 years but everyone I went to high school with at some time worked there. Family owned an operated not expensive, huge portions. Reminds me of food I got when living in Chicago. The salads aren't super great but who goes to an Italian restaurant to eat frickin salad? The noodles and sausages are made in house. The atmosphere is old school and there's a secret back room that can be rented out for big parties. Try the chicken parm!

    I should first admit that I've never stepped foot into Pietra's restaurant. We have gotten their pizza to go and my husband will pick it up, and often we'll eat it at Brewery Rickoli's down the street. But still, they make the best pizza in the world! The first time we had them both the husband and I were talking about the pizza for days! They literally have ruined us for many other local pizza shops! One of these days I'll dine in and check out the rest of the menu, but for me nothing can beat a Pietra's sausage, pepperoni and mushroom pizza. It's the best!

    Stopped in at 4:00 on my way home to order in advance. Stated I would pick up at 5:00. Came back at 5:00 paid and waited. And waited. And waited. Finally at 5:15 I asked for a refund. I guess they need more than hour and 15 minutes to make a pizza? GLAD it didn't work out. As I was waiting I realized only 3 or 4 people in the place at dinner time. Not a good sign. Then noticed place is FILTHY and disgusting. My favorite part was watching the waitress bring a salad to someone with her nasty blue painted nail shoved to the middle of the plate. Guess they don't know how to carry plates to tables without putting their dirty hands in the food? Stay away.

    We were in the neighborhood, and we like to support local businesses so we gave it a try. We ordered bread sticks while we waited for a takeout pizza. The food (even bread sticks that were obviously ready-made) took a long time to be prepared even though the restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived. They were like mealy white hotdog rolls with garlic butter and parm on them, and they were served with really blah marinara that I could tell came from a can. When I tried the pizza, I wasn't any more impressed. The dough was really bland and chewy (in a bad way), and then there was the aforementioned canned sauce. The fresh veggie toppings were, well, fresh. That was nice. Oh, and the interior hasn't been updated since the 70s, which would not be a problem for me if the acoustical ceiling tiles weren't so disgusting looking. Those things are like 12 for 70 bucks, change them out already! I'll bet a new batch of plastic 'glasses' wouldn't be too spendy, either. Bottom line- at $22 for a 14" pizza, the quality is just not up to par.

    Steve R. nailed the ambience in his review so won't include that here. Just moved from New York and after searching for a good pizza in Denver area found this by far the closest. Only place that makes a good crust. A bit more garlic in the sauce may help but NYC style maybe not for everyone. Also largest 16" pizza we have yet to find. Fried stuffed peppers were perfectly crisp on outside, best I have ever had. Only place that serves Italian beer which I love. Giving it 5 stars though would rate only 2 star in NY due to ambience, location and almost being perfect pizza. Only pizza I can eat in Colorado.

    We came here because our regular Super Bowl hangout was closed, and it turned out rather well. Plenty of parking, the staff was nice, and the food was decent. You get a lot of food with the meal, soup AND salad plus your entree. And we could be loud because everyone else there was also watching the game. Good prices too. Cons: The sign is hard to see, it just says PIZZA on it. There's a busser that takes away your food without asking if you are done first (she's a little eager to end her shift, I guess). The sauce could use some more spice, and the soup was lukewarm. And they didn't ask us if we wanted separate checks, even though we were clearly multiple families and they could have easily just written different tickets.

    A-OK. 4 stars for the pizza. We had a delicious jalapeño (canned), sausage (excellent), black olive one. The red sauce is old school with a tiny bite of oregano. The cheese has perfect pull. THe crust is medium think. it was great cold the next day for breakfast. 3 stars for the service. Friendly enough, but slow and inattentive. We were not offered water. 3 stars for the beer and wine prices. 2 stars for the decor. I don't mind old style, but it is worn. The hanging plants were half dead. Needs a good, strong, deep cleaning. Recommended if you are in the mood for a very good traditional American-style pizza.

    The toasted ravioli was great. Quick service.also the pizza was great because it had hard crust. Also it was awesome because it was well cooked. The chicken fingers were awesome as well. Instead of 6 or 7 small fingers, there are 2 big ones. Tastes really good.

    The food was good but service was terribly slow. I called in a to-go order and was told 25-30 minutes and it would bed ready. I didn't get it until just under an hour later. Very frustrating. We may eat here again but it won't be to-go

    Went here with my wife and daughter food was cold had to ask a separate server for my "complementary bread " rude service the host told us to sit wherever so we went to like 7 tables and I'm trying to sit at them looking like a fool the server then sat us in what seemed like a separate building kinda felt like we were in a segregated establishment with no ambient music so had an echo Ike a cafeteria they then brought my daughter powdered hot chocolate on the drink and told my kid your going to have to mix that with a hefty price of 4.00 I think that should be included when my food finally arrived after 35 min it was cold and my wife's Alfredo was cream and cheese no love in that dish for sure +1 fat tire on tap out of 2 taps

    One of my Favorites in Wheat Ridge. This tastes much like Dinos in Lakewood but feels more for locals being tucked away on 44th. Interior could be updated but it adds to an old school italian family feel. Pizza and Lasagne are awesome!

    I've been coming here for over a decade, and nothing ever changes-definitely a good thing. The pizza is always delicious and the same family has been running it. The girls who work here remember your face, and they care about you enjoying your time there-something that is fairly rare in my experience. Try the Italian salad!

    Pietra's hasn't changed in the 30+ years I've been going there, and probably not much in the many years they've been open before that. I love the pizza, especially the pepperoni - their pepperoni is spicier and sliced thicker than most. The crust actually has flavor. Sandwiches, salads and Italian entrees are very good as well. Servings are ample, prices reasonable and overall value is excellent. Now for the "ambiance." The dining rooms are dark and dated and some of the furnishings had seen better days years ago. Carpeting could have/should have been replaced shortly after I started coming. Waitstaff wear blue jeans and white Pietra's logo t-shirts, and definitely take "casual" at face value. Suffice it to say that when you walk in the first time you're not compelled to stay by the decor. But Pietra's isn't about decor. It's about being a neighborhood Italian restaurant with the emphasis on "neighborhood." Many of the staff have worked there for years. At any visit you're likely to see friends and neighbors there. Many adults who grew up going to Pietra's now take their kids to Pietra's and remarkably, the kids have almost an identical experience to that of their parents 20 or 30 years before. Really doesn't matter what you were doing before you came or how grubby you feel, you'll fit in just fine. Pietra's is what it is - some would consider it "tired" and in need of updating and refurbishing, but the owners seem to be comfortable with what it has always been, remains, and is likely to be for years to come. I liked Pietra's 30 years ago and I like it just as much now. I hope it never changes - ever.

    I'm always torn when I go to Italian places that offer pizza and pasta - what do I choose? I love finding new pizza but I rarely make pasta at home so...what's a girl to do? In the case of Pietra's I went with the pizza and was glad I did. After a pretty lack-luster small Italian salad (not really good, not really bad), our pizza arrived piping hot. And quite colorful! We got half Hawaiian and half sausage and green pepper. Both were really, really yummy. Ideal crust thickness - crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, crunchy peppers and salty sweet ham and pineapple. Maybe I'll sample some entrees next time, maybe I'll stick with the pizza. Either way I'll most likely be back.

    If you like oversize spaghetti noodles (think udon) that mush in your mouth and chicken parmesan where the chicken is not breaded and covered in an excessive amount of glommy cheese then this is the place for you! Seriously though, non-breaded chicken parmesan? Far from a winner.

    It's places that look like this, old, stuffy and whatever else the other reviewers said about the appearance here, that make the best food. Just had a pepperoni and green chile pizza and it was excellent. The staff was super friendly and they have great pricing. Futurewife says it's 4 stars so we will give it a collective 4.5. Worth a visit.

    This place is good and has good pizza. I have been going here since I started working in the area approximately 7 years ago when I got introduced to it. All my friends love getting the french fries. I like the pizza. The crust is nice and crispy. A nice size large can feed atleast 2-3 people. I always end up having to take some home. This place is good for a pizza and a soda or a beer. They have a pretty good selection of beers also. Another great thing that I have thought about taking advantage of is thier room in back can be used for private events and what not. So at the end of the day you know this place is good when a local establishment and not a chain has a line out the door with a 10-15 min wait.

    I met a friend at Peitra's last week for lunch, he had to pick up some blinds in the area so we looked around for things nearby - and found this possible gem. Hell, they've been around for almost 50 years so odds are they're doing something right! Since neither of us has been there before we decided to split a small pizza and the pasta combo. We went with the Super combo for the pie and both loved it. The crust wasn't too thick and had a really nice crispiness to it. The sauce was OK, in my opinion sauce should never be the star of a pizza, stricly there to support the rest of the goodies. The cheese was more than normal but not too much for me. It had a good taste to it, and not all rubbery. I'm guessing they put down slices of part skim mozz first to hold it all together. The sausage is the old school crumbly kind torn into some pretty big chunks, and the pepperoni was the smaller, thicker kind that I love. Toss some shrooms and onions and I can see why they call it Super! The pasta was also pretty good, we went with the lasagna (fluffy, definitely homemade), cannelloni (meat filled, possibly homemade), and stuffed shells (seriously doubt it was homemade - ridges!). The sauce covering them all was much better than average and didn't taste like it was from a can. Plus, it was easily soaked up by the accompanying bread. The service and prices were both pretty good. I'll be going back for more pizza for sure. When I do go, if it's as good as the first time I could easily see bumping them up to 4 stars, just have to show me they can do it more than once!

    Upon walking into Pietra's for the first time, we almost immediately walked out! The place was a mess! It looked as though they had just had a big food fight! We waited a few minutes and were taken to the dining room. None of the 10 or so tables were clean and we had to wait while a table was cleaned (with a damp dirty cloth). The decor is very outdated. The curtains are so old they are stained and torn. But being it was late and we wanted pizza, we hoped the food was better than the environment. It was. Sort of. I mean, it was ok. Nothing special. We ordered meatball and onion and there were maybe 5 tiny squares of onion scattered about. Maybe other items on the menu are better, I won't know. This place would be the perfect candidate for the tv show: Restaurant Impossible!

    I had a friend that right out of high school (yeah there were dinosaurs walking around still... : ( had moved into apartments right behind this strip mall when she got pregnant. It wasn't that uncommon in the hood I grew up in for kids to have kids and yeah it didn't work out with her and the kid's dad so she raised the kid by herself. Well anyway back to Pietra's... My friend had asked me to help her move out of said apartment and back home and as a reward she took me out to lunch at this little pizza place around the corner. Specifically "this little pizza place" and for some reason it stuck in my head as being awesome. Many a year has passed since "that pizza" but for some reason, the memory of it's greatness was still vivid in my mind. After leaving my favorite local brewery and in desperate need of some 'hol absorption (which became apparent to me when I turned in the wrong direction leaving said establishment and proceeded to drive over the median and away from my home), I saw Pietra's and decided it was time to revisit. People change, tastes change, the hot girl from your younger life gets to look like her grandmother, and the great pizza? Well, it's still pretty good for what it is. A flavorful thick crusted heavily topped pie so if you're into checking out grandmother's while eating a thick, cheesy, heavily topped pizza, go here. But don't expect the same prices as when you were a kid.

    I've worked fairly close to Pietra's for almost 2 years and have never tried it. My coworker and I finally gave it a shot today, and I'm glad we did! We both had predictions about the inside based on the outside, and good news, we were right on the money. Exactly what you'd expect from a place that looks like that- vinyl booths, dated carpet, dark wood paneling. I had the sausage pie (cannoli). It's not fair to call it a pie or a cannoli. It's like a pizza sandwich. Dough on the outside, sausage, green chile, and cheese on the inside. Served with a tasty marinara sauce. YUM. My coworker got the sausage sammich, which he liked too. The sausage is homemade and tasty (very fennel-y), tender, and not too salty. I'll definitely go back, next time for pizza!

    Terrible. Went here for a birthday and it took forever (35 minutes from order - and it had obviously been sitting under heat lamps) to get our food. Drink refills never came. The pizza was mediocre at best. The salads (if you can call iceberg lettuce and mushy tomatoes a salad) were smothered in dressing. The only thing that looked good was the homemade spaghetti noodles. I hope to never have to go here again.

    I have tried Pietra's a few times now. The first time I was very pleased. We ordered a white pizza that was very tasty. Sooo the next time we were in the area we decided to call the order in and just pick up the pizza. The girl on the phone told us 20 min so we said perfect since that would leave me ten min to get back to work. Well...... we arrive 30 min later and still no pizza. We ended up sitting around for an additional 10 min since the pizza had just been put into the oven. We paid and quickly left since at this rate I was going to be late. Once I arrived at work I grabbed a slice only tp find out it was made with red sauce.....I don't know why pizza places just don't understand WHITE pizza especially since the girl verified it was supposed to be white. Once we called back the girl immediately knew who we were and offered us a free pizza next time we come in........ Overall, a little disappointed at the service and lack of accuracy, but hopefully I will get the pizza we order the next time I go in....... I'll let ya know......

    This review is for the pizza only. It's so good that I haven't even tried anything else. We've mixed up the toppings, but we always ensure that the homemade sausage is one of them. I'd advise you to do the same. This isn't New York-style pizza, so don't come in expecting that. It's a nice middle ground between the thin greasy slices from the east and the thicker, doughy pan-style pizza out west. We've only ordered carry-out. And the experience has been pleasant. The pizza is always ready to go when I arrive, and the staff is friendly enough. They also have a customer rewards program, although the point redemption values are quite high (you have to spend something like $350 just to get a free pizza). If I were including the decore/ambience in this rating, then it would probably lose a star or two. As other reviewers have noted, it's straight outta the 70s, and there always seem to be crumbs and wadded up straw papers on the floor. I'd advise them to get one of those cordless, soundless push vacuums and use it throughout the night. They really should invest in at least a minor remodel. This is easily overshadowed by the pizza, though.

    Very confused. This pizza is okay, I ordered green chile and tomato. The crust is very bready, sauce tastes similar to Ragu and way too much cheese. The salad is just iceburg lettuce and a cherry tomoto. Husband got the taco pizza, he also said it was okay. Didn't get any dessert. Service was good, atmosphere very family friendly. Will I go again, most likely not, I shouldn't cheat on Virgilio. ;)

    I love Pietra's pizza. The entree's are mearly ok. As for the reviewer from New Jersey, you're in Colorado now. North Denver has it's own italian flavor. I have eaten at Vincenza's as well, and prefer to taste something other than garlic, there are other herbs available. Anyway, Pietra's pizza is definately worth it.

    "Let's Do The Time Warp Again!" - Rocky Horror Picture Show Straight from the 70s with wood paneling, drop ceiling and fixtures along the interior. Pretty large dining room - looks like they may have taken over the storefront next door. Staff was decent but not overly friendly. Service was relatively quick but this was around 5 PM on a Saturday with no customers yet arriving in the restaurant. The dish washer was cute and so was the back room kitchen help. The head chef was kinda cute with a bald head and some kind of designer sunglasses - but I digress. Food - merely okay. This is my 2nd visit and while it has improved it still has a way to go. Ordered dinner salads. They were mostly a bowl of lettuce with some chopped tomatoes. The lettuce was fresh and the tomatoes tasted good. Ordered ranch on the side. A bit thick and a bit overly garlic. Main entree was the pizza - a 16" cheese, pepperoni, and sausage. Sausage is true Italian style with caraway seeds to be forewarned. Pepperonis were small and kinda like miniature cups of grease. Pizza dough was excellent. I applaud the amount of sauce but the sauce was pretty bland. They could use some improvement here. At least the crust must be made in house because I saw staff carrying empty flour bags to the dumpster in back. Drinks were refilled but no coke zero on tap. :( They were having mixed drink specials for $4 with shelf liquor. Not bad. The place was kept clean and for the most part front of house was pleasant. Plenty of parking in a dying strip mall that contained a "Itz Haircutting Tyme" barber shop and a Map Store that is never open. Overall it was decent. It's a solid 3. You'd still do better at Nick's just down Kipling on the other side of 70.

    Decent Pizza, but didn't like the sauce...and it had a lot of it. Friendly staff, and very unassuming atmosphere. If I lived or worked next door, I would give it another shot, but for me there are much better pizza options.

    This place is decent. Decent pizza. Decent pasta. Whatever you do, heed your fellow yelpers when they tell you to reject the house salad. I can't believe they even charged me money for it as it was completely inedible. I've had a lot better house soup, too. But, overall, decent. I wouldn't hesitate to order a pizza for takeout.

    I really don't know why we tried this place but I was jonezin' for some good pizza and stumbled onto this place. The pizza was mighty tasty. Fresh ingredients, great sauce and dough to go along with their awesome homemade italian sausage. 4 stars for now until I try their dinner entrees. The menu had your typical italian dishes and from looking around the restaurant they looked REALLY good. (Although there was some kid eating a grilled cheese)

    Walking in the door at Pietra's is like stepping into my grandma's house. I should say that: (A) my grandma is not Italian, (B) my grandma does not live in an Italian restaurant, and (C) my grandma has probably never in her life made pizza. Even so, as soon as I step foot in Pietra's I am bombarded by sense-memory overload. The smells (which are wonderful), the dining rooms which haven't changed in decades (some people think this is a bad thing, I highly disagree in this case), and the sounds of pizza being made in the kitchen, teenagers goofing around (some of which are probably employees), and families sitting down to enjoy each other's company (or at least to enjoy a pepperoni pizza together)- Pietra's is an experience. I can't even say how many times my family went to Pietra's after soccer or baseball games across at the park across the street. I can't count the number of people with whom I have dined while being constantly distracted by the picture of the faceless man. Pietra's is the type of place you go to make memories. It is quite dark inside (somehow it feels wrong to be there in the daytime), but a comforting dark. The staff is often composed primarily of student from Wheat Ridge High School, and will adequately get the job done. They make good sandwiches, nice homemade pasta, and delicious pizzas. You know the kind of pepperoni that is small (diameter of only about an inch) that sort of curls up as it cooks and pools the tiniest bit of pepperoni grease inside itself? You know... the most delicious pepperoni on earth? What more could a person ask for than just such pepperoni on a pizza with a nice crisp crust, the perfect amount of cheese, and a sauce which gets the job done? They definitely do carryout, as I did tonight, but do yourself a favour: grab your kids (or that young lady/gentleman you've been trying to impress) and enjoy each other in my metaphorical grandma's house.

    Vegetarian's Beware. Im torn with this place, I was passing through town and decided to eat here after reading good reviews about this place. I ordered homestyle spaghetti which came with soup, salad, bread and beverage for 9 bucks... couldn't beat that. Well The Minestrone soup came, I ate a couple bites- realized there was meat in there and then slide it to the side. Then the salad came... it was iceberg lettuce with a cut up tomato. that's it. Then my pasta came and I ate a couple bites and realized there was meat in that too! Usually Minestrone and Spaghetti are pretty safe for vegetarians... not here! However, the staff was super friendly. My waitresses was super nice and understanding when I told her I didn't eat meat and they replaced it with a meatless sauce. I would probably go here again and try the pizza that has such rave reviews, but for anything else- not so much. Not very veggie friendly.

    What a joke! The worst service I have ever experienced in a restaurant. Once we sat down we waited for 10 minutes and nobody came to talk to us. I went to remind them we hadn't seen a server yet. We waited 5 for minutes-no service! We walked out--not one person tried to stop us of ask us why we were leaving. There is no way I will ever return to that place!!!

    This pizzeria is one of the best around. The salads are huge and worth every bite. The pizza is delicious, every piece. The owners, management and staff are nice as can be with a warm welcome, even when the place is packed, and you have to wait for a table or pick-up order. The familia type atmosphere is the best part about visiting and dining at the Italian Restaurant. The pepperoni, mushroom and olive is never dull and packs rich, spicey, goodness in every slice.

    Oh Pietras I am dreaming of your pizza, the salad in the little plastic bowls and the Vanilla Cokes. My childhood is filled with memories of family dinner at Pietras, dad's night to cook at Pietras, Pietras at home. so warm, homemade and delicous. I just can't get a dining experience like yours in Oregon. i can't wait to see you again.

    I will probably never eat in at this place again as I don't feel I should hear an unprofessional kitchen staff berate each other. I really despise bigots and would rather not eat their food. The pizza I had from here was very good and so far, that's this place's only saving grace. The soup that came with our dinner was no better than Campbells canned soup and the house salad was pathetic at best. I can throw ice berg lettuce and a handful of diced tomatoes on a plate and call it a salad too folks. The cheesesticks were good however, I'm sure they were store bought and pizza sauce doesn't work with all Italian food guys. Make some real marinara for the other dishes you offer. They may also need a visit from the local health inspector as the place needs to be cleaned. The men's room was filthy and needed a good cleaning througout. Overall I was disappointed after my first experience with grabbing a pizza to go. Maybe that's their secret to success?

    I live nearby, and love good Italian, so why do i never go to Pietra's? Because the place is a mess and the food is terrible. It is very very popular...tons of people....so maybe I'm just picky? The place has zero decor. Seriously, my uncle Ted's basement looked just like this after it flooded. Nasty. There are kids throwing bread all over the floor, and no one cleans it up, so if you grew up in a barn, you'll feel right at home. The pizza? Meh. The crust is no worse than frozen supermarket pie, but, for the price, you'd be better off staying home and ordering Blackjack. I was starving tonight, and ordered a lasagna to-go. Mush. Gooey slop.
