5-star location: one of the best in Vail, with a glorious view of the ski hills. 3-star food: a typical steakhouse / surf & turf menu, nothing special or creative, food quality is okay, not spectacular 1-star service: not very attentive, enthusiastic when up-selling pricier dishes but less so when service is needed. When a person in our group complained about his steak being overdone, the waiter was quite attitudinal, in a bad way. Overall, given the choices of fine dining restaurants in Vail / BC area, this one wouldn't make it to top half of the list.

I loved the Chophouse, went there several times during our recent visit to Vail. They served complimentary sparkling wine every day at 3pm to commemorate the 50th anniversary during our stay in early January. I had a few light meals and appetizers there, everything was wonderful. Try the beet and goat cheese salad, it is fantastic!

Terrible attitude from waiter!! We had to leave and dine elsewhere. When we comented to the metre d, he didn't care. They were going to get business anyway due to their location. What a shame!!

Food is great. Service was wonderful; Angie was our server and she was awesome! Can't figure out why the low rating from others. Everything was cooked to our expectations. We had the pork chops, NY Strip and Prime Rib. The Mac and Cheese on the side was delicious. And the baked potato was cooked with kosher salt, perfect! Thank you, Chop House and Angie! We will definitely be back.

Great Location. Sliders not good. Bread too hard. Couldn't even bite through it. Seriously. Maybe this was because we had to send it back once and the bread was over done? Lobster Chowder was just ok. Not worth it.

Unfortunately I think this restaurant is seriously overrated. The quality of food is in no way reflected in the pricing (which is far too high.) I ordered a cosmopolitan on my last visit which turned out to be the worst cocktail I have ever tasted (extremely acidic and bitter in a way that cannot be accounted for by simply using too much lime juice.) I sent it back and the second cocktail I received was marginally better, but still far worse than the many cosmos I have made myself. I ordered the soup which tasted like it came from a can, and a side ceasar salad. The dressing tasted VERY strongly of anchovies which is more of a personal preference thing (some might love it and some might hate it) and the cheese atop was parmesan shreds of a similar quality to what you might receive on a salad from a cheap deli. Everyone I dined with (5 people) felt that their food was mediocre. On top of that the restaurant was too loud for us to speak to each other (I literally could not converse with the person sitting next to me) and our server was obviously very overextended and thus largely absent. There is absolutely nothing about this restaurant to justify its cost, and I am frankly shocked that it is still in business.

I called a few days ahead of our vacation to ask about their Vail Restaurant Month special- the person I spoke to was friendly and helpful and I appreciated that he let me know what the special menu was going to be ahead of time. We celebrated our anniversary there with friends last night. We were not disappointed! Andre was welcoming and helpful. Meg was an excellent server. She was patient, remembered all of our specific requests, and had the kitchen split our friend's wedge salad since they were sharing it, without us even asking for it. She took extra steps to make our meal and experience pleasant and positive- we were really impressed and appreciative. The food was timed very well and our water glasses were never empty. The garlic bread was delicious! It's regular bread with garlic cloves baked in, with soft butter on the side- I loved it. My friend had the roasted tomato portobello soup and thought it was wonderful. I loved my Caesar salad and the wedge salads seemed to be enjoyed too. My husband and I had the beef kabob special- with roasted red peppers, red onion and mushrooms on the skewer too. It was a great presentation. I thought it was delicious- the meat was so good. It was served with a big mound of mashed potatoes. I didn't have much room for them after all the bread I ate :) but they were good and my husband loved his. Our friends enjoyed their house burger. They have a good dessert menu even with some interesting sounded "drinkable" desserts too. My friend and I each had the apple pie- we were again really impressed- tons of layered apples with a slight caramel taste and a soft crust and a soft streusel type topping- it was a huge serving and some of the best apple pie we've ever had. My husband enjoyed his huge slice of key lime pie too. The restaurant is in a great location and does have a beautiful view. There is a lot of out door seating too which would be even better in warmer weather. The ambiance of the restaurant is classy and very nice but not snooty. The chairs were comfortable and we even enjoyed the music. I'm really surprised by the negative reviews. We had a fantastic experience and meal here and highly recommend it.

Best night I can remember in a long time! Food- been in the past, it was ok. Clearly the menu has changed with the new ownership.....all for the better! Everything was fantastic. Filet Oscar was delish and salmon was possibly the best ever. Of course you can never go wrong with the lobster mac n cheese!! Waitstaff- everyone was "on it!" Very attentive to all our needs. Entertainment- Phil Long - need I say more? The entertainment was off the charts- of course Phil didn't disappoint and was in true fun Phil fashion. He had the whole place on their feet and having a blast. I had the opportunity to meet new people who want to move here from CA- they thought they thought they hit the jackpot tonight and had a blast. What a great night for them to come out with the fantastic entertainment. I can't wait to see the amazing vibe the Chophouse will have during the ski season with the great menu changes and additions and the fab entertainment with Phil Long!

We have eaten there every year since they have opened. Liked it at first unfortunately the food has been slipping a little each time. Last night was the second time when we have eaten there where the atmosphere was like Chuck E Cheese. If you are interested in an eating experience where the kids are allowed to run wild, this is the place for you! The wait staff was marginal and the dirty tables allowed to linger. We finished as soon as possible and went to another establishment for after dinner drinks and dessert. It promises to be nicer dining experience from the outside than it delivers. In my opinion it needs a management tune up.

Not really sure how this old standard survives in a culinary environment as competitive and fun as Vail but there it sits, replete with red pleather stools at the bar, straight out of a Mad Men scene, with a menu about as updated. Stopped in for lunch and opted for the half-rack of ribs and a beer. Beer was cold, so that was good. The ribs? BONE dry. Asked for some more sauce to go with the ribs and was presented with what I can only presume was A-1 straight out of the bottle. In a town FULL of tasty eats, Chophouse really needs to step up its game.

We visited from New York and this is the only place in Vail I've eaten, so I am not sure what the standard is. But the food was not the best. We were a party of 9 and ordered 9 different entrees and a good variety of appetizers and sides... we tried them all and had a pretty good consensus that the appetizers were good and the Mac and Cheese was good. Everything else, including the steaks, were ok, but overpriced considering they were only ok. Our waiter was very nice. But the service was otherwise slow. I hope there are better places in the area with better food.

Spectacular location. Intriguing, so we stopped in for an early dinner at 5pm. The hostess was pleasant and the waiter was very nice. The wine was great, the bread was fresh and above average, the Brie appetizer was SUPERB! I noticed my wine decanter was chipped along the entire pouring edge so I walked up towards the bar and politely mentioned it to our waiter. He informed the bartender and with the utmost sincerity, I told the bartender that I wasn't worried about the wine, I was more concerned with it being brought to their attention. The bartender literally said that there was nothing wrong with it, they were all like that, and continued to speak under his breath. The waiter gave me another glass but the damage had been done due to a poor showing by a disrespectful and rude bartender. For dinner we shared the 8 oz filet that was tough on the outside (it sounded like cutting through cardboard), dry, overcooked, and bland. The garlic mashed potatoes were EXTREMELY dry and uneventful. The asparagus was cooked and seasoned to perfection. For a $120 dinner one would expect greater attention to food detail. For politely mentioning a safety issue with the decanter you would think that they would be appreciative. We love Vail but I will never go back to this chophouse. Go to the Tavern on the Square (a 30 second walk to the NW). I truly hope that this review is helpful.

I can't speak to the steaks, but if you're looking for strong cocktails and a few small plates at the base of the mountain, this is your spot. In need of an alcoholic beverage or two and a bite, we essentially flipped a coin between the Chophouse and the joint next door because both have an unbeatable view of the gondolas running up the slope. I opted for the Fresh Fashioned (which turned out to be a bucket of bourbon that I may or may not have ended up regretting several hours later), but was well-made. Food-wise, we shared the shrimp cocktail (exactly what we wanted), the elk sausage (wonderfully flavorful and accompanied by an excellent mustard sauce) and the spinach and artichoke dip (entirely too healthy, but still solid). I'd do it again in the unlikely event I'm every fancy enough to be in Vail for another wedding.

I went there on a Monday afternoon for lunch during the ski season- deck was more busy than inside. Lots of space inside. It was clean for what I could tell and for what I paid attention. Comfortable sitting and great view. Now as far as food - it's was good! The value is even better if you consider that you're in Vail. Not saying it's amazing or something special but it is definitely above average. Because of the nice & cozy atmosphere and absolutely great value I give it 5 stars.

Rating remains but I do want to note that I received a message from a customer service rep as a follow up for my original review. Unfortunately I did not notice the message until I logged in using a desktop (normally I use an app) months later. Still, relevant information for those looking to know more about the establishment. Even if service isn't 100%, they're at least attempting to correct it.

The décor is great at this spot, directly across from the Lion's head Gondi. Upscale feel yet you show up in your snow gear and feel welcome. The wait staff is pretty good about checking up on you and the kitchen turns out food efficiently, even during busy lunch hours. Our waitress did a decent job but she did one thing that I truly irritates me. She brought out 2 of the 3 drinks my table ordered and informed us that the 3rd drink is taking a bit longer to make but should be right out. No problem, I'm good with that. But then, instead of moving on to take our order, she just walked away. Why!? Taking an order and delivering the last drink to our table don't have to be dependent on each other. Now perhaps, some groups want to wait for everyone to have their beverage before ordering food. Fine, then ask if everyone is ready to order or rather wait until all drinks arrive. But don't just walk away. Okay, rant over. The food is quality. You can tell right away that this place does business with higher end suppliers. However, be careful with ordering bison here. My friend had a bison burger and it was overcooked. However, his chili was phenomenal. My pulled brisket sandwich was fantastic and the salmon bisque ordered by the 3rd member of our party really enjoyed that. My beef brisket sandwich, a substitute of soup rather than fries and a beer cost me $22 before tip. Not bad actually, considering this place is right at the base of the Gondi. I also thought the menu could have been bigger and more entrées can be offered. The selection was a bit small. Overall, this place isn't bad and I can see potential to bring total stars up to 4.

Having grown up in tropical Malaysia, I don't really drink hot drinks. I do however make an exception when skiing. I love warming my innards with the drink and my hands by holding the cup Vail Chophouse is quite a swanky restaurant with an ideal slopeside location. Perfect for us to have a mid morning break from the slopes. They were perfectly happy for us just to have a drink and we were welcome in our ski gear I enjoyed a nice hot chocolate with lashings of cream. Well, I am burning a lot of calories on the slopes. Hehe The prices were reasonable for Vail

We usually love the Chophouse. We've been to Vail the last three summers and usually go to the Chophouse at least two or three nights of our month long stay. Last night, I took my two kids for dinner because they wanted to see the magician. We got a table outside. The views really are amazing! We all ordered steak. My son's 12 oz filet which he ordered medium came out very very well done. I don't know if it was forgotten on the grill or what, but I was shocked no one seemed to notice this from the kitchen to the table. I could see how well done it was before he even cut into it. He was so hungry he asked me not to send it back because we had already waited a while (I know steaks normally take time) and he didn't want to wait 20 more minutes to eat. It looked awful. I felt bad for him and so traded my NY strip with his and asked for steak sauce to help make it palatable for me. Our waitress was nice but so busy, no one refilled our water. I was parched by the end of our meal. After we finished dinner, we ordered the chocolate cake.....which really is fabulous, but that took a long time to come as well. As soon as she brought the cake, I asked for the check. All in all, for the prices at the Chophouse, it was an official disappointment.

I'm not generally in the business of responding to other reviews, but I'd like to make a couple points. Vail Chophouse sits approximately 20 feet from the snow-covered slopes at the base of a gondola in Lionshead Village, and all day every day people are marching through there with their ski boots and other gear. I'm not saying that patrons should not expect a clean and orderly restaurant when they enter, I'm merely pointing out that this place does a TON of lunch business with skiers, and that takes a toll on both the restaurant and the staff. Granted, I have some extra sympathy for restaurants who get most of their business from tourists, who generally have higher expectations and less patience. We stopped in for lunch on a Friday, and had a very enjoyable experience. Our waiter came to the table shortly after we were seated, and kept appropriate tabs on us throughout our meal. I found the variety of lunch options to be extensive and interesting, and finally settled on fish tacos. The mahi was great, although the tacos themselves were a little overstuffed, as they often are, and therefore somewhat difficult to eat. The avocado relish was so good, I ate the tortilla chip bowl it came in. One of our party was trying salmon for the first time in the form of a salmon BLT (!), and she loved it. I was lucky enough to get a bite, and it was indeed excellent. In conclusion, this place isn't cheap and shouldn't feel like it, but that said I don't think anyone dining here should expect it to feel like their favorite neighborhood eatery. This is a tourist restaurant in a tourist town, and the experience is commensurate with that reality. Personally, I would think twice about having an expensive dinner at a place that primarily caters to hungry skiers during the day. This is a great place for lunch in Lionshead Village.

Vail Chophouse was able to accommodate our large group of about 50+ diners early on a Saturday evening. Their servers were so quick and courteous. We took up several large and small tables and our servers knew exactly who ordered what even with everyone milling about and socializing. Despite the large group, our food was incredible! This was one of our best meals while in Vail. My NY Strip was cooked to perfection. We also ordered dessert, probably one of the best (and largest) slices of carrot cake I have ever had! Thanks to everyone at Vail Chophouse for a wonderful evening.

I went here with my family this evening. The atmosphere was nice and the location was perfect. We were seated right by the windows that overlook the mountain, so I have nothing to complain about in terms of the view. I had the bone in New York strip steak, which was great. We ordered blue cheese and bacon Mac and cheese as a side, as well as the mashed potatoes. All of the food was excellent. I only rated this restaurant four stars because the service was sub par. Although the restaurant was not very crowded, we had to ask for bread and were not very well attended to. The manager came by and was very pleasant, but our waitress was slow to respond and not extremely friendly. Overall, it was a great meal with a great view and I would definitely go back, but the service could use some improvement.

My husband and I visited and had dinner 2xs this week it was an ok experience and the food was good. But last night we went there for appetizers and and drink after a long day skiing and my husband ordered a beer that was on the menu and the waitress said that she ran out of that particular beer which was priced at $4.00 and we asked if the was another beer that she cab comp it for and at first she offered a bud light then of course my husband ask if there she could comp for one similar to the onehe was ordering which wasnt btw a domistic beer and thenshe refusedto comphim for any other beer. For god sakes this us a chop house in vail if you ran out of a particular beer offer one comp able and don't be so rude. I am still in vail with friends and we plan on never going back. The food is so so and the service is appalling.

Was visiting Vail for the weekend (staying right in Lionshead village), so after a long day of skiing and stiff joints, there was a clear consensus on what type of food we needed in order to repair our aging bodies and reward our hard work on the slopes: steaks. While the menu selection appeared strong and the wine & beer list expansive, the quality simply was not there. By the end of the meal, we deemed the chop house to be a "texture heavy restaurant." What do I mean by that? Well, the steaks for instance were cooked to our preference and were certainly quality pieces of meat, but there simply was zero flavor! The same was true with the deserts (with the exception of the chocolate cake). The carrot cake was beautifully layered, was incredibly moist, but it just didn't taste like anything! Additionally - and I say this as a warning - do not order the Au poivre sauce! I'm from the east coast and like to think my understanding of steak sauces is sound, so I can confidently say this was not Au Poivre! It was more of a thick horseradish paste that left your sinuses cleared, but your steak completely wasted. In regards to the service, our server seemed detached from our experience. To illustrate, while we were wiping off our so-called Au Poivre from our steak in front of him with the napkin, there was no inquiry from him as to why we were resorting to such a desperate and extreme measure. Moreover, he made us feel rushed as he was constantly pressuring us to order, move on to the next course, and order another round of drinks before we were ready. The lighting in the main dining room was also too bright.

Had dinner here on our last night in Vail. My husband and I got a late start trying to find a place for dinner with our 3 kids but they got us in even with 2 very large parties already reserved. Everything was delicious. My kids like their parents are foodies so they don't order off the kids menu. All together we had lobster mac n cheese, crabcake, brie, cold seafood tower, wedge salad and steamed king crab. Great selection of specialty cocktails and wines as well. It was pretty pricey but that was to be expected (1) a steak and seafood restaurant (2) a ski resort restaurant. Loved it!

Service was good. Bloody Mary was great. Got the petit Filet, it was over cooked and not the best quality meat. Was supposed to come with a baked potato but it was served with fries I didn't want. Got the baked 10 mins after and it was rotten... Overall I would have a drink at the bar but don't think I'd ever eat here again... Sad, I was really looking forward to a nice filet today :(... [edit] Their customer service contacted me here (on Yelp) shortly after this experience and apologized and asked for additional information to remedy the problem in the future. I always appreciate when people care enough to do that, so although I had not the best experience, I will go back this Winter and re-review.

There is no such thing as a Beethoven Salad at the Vail Chophouse (my picture is mislabeled-I'm blaming my 'smart' phone). However, if you have the Roasted Red Beet Salad for lunch & Tyler is your waiter, you won't be disappointed!

We came here for lunch while skiing today and had good service and some really good food! Then soup of the day was a vegetable soup in a tomato based broth and was amazing! I definitely recommend the mixed field greens with goat cheese salad! The restaurant is located right at the base of the mountain so the location cannot be beat!

After spending 2 days in Vail, with NUMEROUS failed attempts at a TRUE hot toddy (our hotel had boxed hot chocolate, and someone told me they could add Bailey's to my coffee, um eww) I finally stumbled upon the Vail Chophouse. So happy I did. The bartender, who was super friendly, and helpful immediately brought out a drink menu with SEVERAL different craft expertly made hot cocktails. FINALLY, I my search was over. I immediately went for the hot buttered rum, and my b/f went for the Millionare. Both were ridiculously good. I couldn't get enough, and actually licked the cup. The location is perfection, with full on views of the slopes, mountains, and great for people watching. There was quite a crowd of people when we were in, but received top notch service. I took a peek at the menu, and would come back, although pricey, you are in Vail, so what do you expect? Without a doubt would go back, even if just for the hot buttered rum! YUM!

this place was a disappointment. Emily the server was not on her game! my boyfriend ordered a dirty martini and she forgot the olives even after a second reminder. I ordered the maine lobster and it was under cooked, slimy and gross. The only good thing about that place was the berry martini which was fresh and delicious. Go for happy hour but eat dinner somewhere else.

Ate here at the very beginning of last winter. I really like this places atmosphere and a lot of the food on the menu looked good. I however chose to go the simple route with an 8oz. sirloin with a side of brussel sprouts. The sprouts were amazing. Cheese and bacon were added; definitely took this idea home with me. But where I am less impressed was with the steak. Dry and over-cooked, when I ordered medium. Not impressed. And we ate here when there was literally 1 other table. I have no idea how they messed this up. Based on the prices it will take a lot for me to come back here.

The Jalapeño & Elk Chorizo Mac N' Cheese worked for me for dinner. Service was great and for being here at the beginning of the summer it was great to sit outside and enjoy the cool weather even without much of a view in the darkness.

We had a expensive dinner with great wine and great service but the place definitely takes a beating with ski boots during the day. So it feels beaten up given the prices for the food. The location is convenient to the Ritz Residences and has great views of the Mountain right on the square. The food was very good, lobster mac and cheese, filets, shrimp cocktail etc all very good. However, not sure if it would be my first choice next time for dinner maybe lunch but not dinner.

Dined there Sunday at 6PM (3/9/14). We are frequent customers when in Vail for skiing. I order their burger without the champagne. It's always great. Service is not the greatest. This time we both ordered a salad. They offer 2 sizes. The "side" salad I would assume is to accompany another entre and the larger salad would be in lieu of another entre. Bad assumption. Our salads were huge...spilling over the sides of a large dinner plate. We questioned our waiter, "was this a side salad"? He said no, we didn't stipulate a "side" salad. So it was considered our responsibility, not his to inquire which size salad we wanted. We each ate about half the salad and our accompanying entres. The bill reflected the price of the large salad. Instead of being a truly satisfied customer I left feeling ticked off and my tip reflected my disappointment (12% instead of 20%). What I don't know is whether it's the establishment that wants to squeeze an extra $10 from its customers or the waiter who made a mistake and wanted to blame the customer. I suspect the latter since later we heard him ask the next table what size salad they wanted. I wish I had told the manager, but at the time I was not in the mood for possible conflict and didn't want to cause trouble for the waiter. Ian Harrison Bedminster NJ

We had a very nice experience at Vail Chophouse. The four of us were seated on time for our 8pm reservation. Our server was nice and attentive. The food was very good. I enjoyed the Colorado Bass. Vail Chophouse is a fine place, and fairly laid back, so you can bring the grommets.

Meh about sums it up. But if you're looking for detailed info; keep reading. Vail Chophouse is pretty and in a great location. You can sit in the bar and relax while enjoying a beautiful view of the mountain. That's pretty much all the up-side to this place. The service was dismal. The menu is small. The drinks weren't great. In fact, the olives in our dirty martinis were weird, perhaps the cheese was bad? I don't know but it was pretty gross. If I were designing a menu for a place people will spend a few hours hanging out I'd add a few snack items to keep people munching and drinking. The only options for shareable light fare currently are, well, there aren't any. Now let's talk about the free champagne toast. I love a free drink. I love a free glass of champagne. I do not love being teased about a free glass of champagne. Asked if we would like to participate in the toast we of course said "sure". At 3:30 a gong was rung and a server started shouting about how fantastic Vail Chophouse is. Seriously, he was shouting throughout the restaurant and bar. Then, we watched as 2 of the 20 tables were served champagne, very full glasses of champagne. After asking for our check and mentioning we didn't get champagne we were served about an inch of the stuff. When I said "yeah, I figured we'd get much less than those guys over there" the hostess pouring our champagne said "yeah, it's a free toast. I'll talk to the server about pouring less". Now see, had I been giving the opportunity to make two people happy after annoying them I'd say "oh, I'm so sorry. Here, let me top that off for you." Then I'd go give the other server a tongue lashing. And not in a good way. The only reason I'll go back to the Vail Chophouse is if I can't find a table at one of the other places in Lionshead. Otherwise, they can keep their sub-par food, free champagne, nasty attitudes, and obnoxious gong.

Very Disappointed, we got there 11/28/14 party of 10. At 8:00 pm. I ordered Ribeye plate, 5 minutes later the waitress come back they were out, i have to order something else. My Wife order Salmon, few minutes later waitress come back they were out also. My friend ordered shrimp and again minutes later they were out, I ordered a Apple Martini they didn't have apple sours drink, i'm like "what kind of restaurant is this in a Famous And expensive Ski Resort and they didn't have even haft of what we ordered. I didn't mind expending the money because it was a especial occasion, but not having the food we wanted in this restaurant is unbelievable. Waiters was good. I will not come back Sorry.

Worst experience in this expensive restaurant. We were a group of 4 couples. We asked for 4-5 different things and they said sorry but there is not rybe, no salmon, no shirmp, no apple martini. The check was around $160 by couple. Horrible experience

Had a great dinner at the Vail Chophouse, along with several happy hour experiences. Charlie was hilarious... and was totally on the ball. The bloody mary's are awesome. The comped champagne every day at 3:30 is great too. Dinner with Tyler was great, again, totally on the ball. We had the seafood tower, and steaks. The mac n cheese was great too. We're all sleepy and happy in bed.

Disappointed We made reservations and were very excited for our big night out. We arrived at the restaurant and were shown to our table. I don't know about you, but I do not like to sit on the previous diners food. Come on. How hard would it be to wipe the chairs. Or clean the carpet of food scraps . The carpet was those large squares tiles of carpet that they use to replace spills and stained areas. It would be nice if they did this. The carpet was a mess. Not very appetizing. This at a restaurant where the entree is over $40 per person plus extras. So if the front of the house has this many problem .... What is the kitchen like?? Needless to say, we left and did not eat here. Be careful and look around if you choose to eat here.

We had a large party come in on the fourth of July for lunch. Our waiter was attentive and brought us lots of water and drinks, crayons for the toddler, and gave suggestions. He was very chill, seemed like he was from Southern California (haha) but he was kind and I trusted him because he didn't try to upsell us at all. One person got the ribs (ate them all gone), someone else got the Elk burger with Swiss and loved it, someone else got the ChopHouse burger?, the parents shared the Mahi tacos (and dad said they were the best fish tacos he had ever eaten), I had the Greek salad, and baby shared peoples fries, pickles, pita bread, mushrooms, and guacamole. The french fries were great (I hate it when places don't salt their fries and these had sea salt mmmm) and the man loved his Elk burger. My Greek salad (which was the cheapest salad on the menu at 8.99) was vegetarian and had mushrooms (yum!!) with yummy feta and a delicious dressing. I highly recommend. Keep in mind they only seat you if your entire party is there. I highly recommend you try this place if you need a quick lunch meal for a large party.

This place sucks. Sorry but there is no other way to put it. Bad food and even worse service! I have tried this place several times because I love the one in Beaver Creek but after this last time I will never return. The last time I was here my food was cold and this time my husband and I waiting for 20 minutes before finally leaving because no one talked to us. That sort of oversight is completely unacceptable. They didn't even bring us water or say hello, nothing, not a word.

Best Steak and Seafood in Vail. Great service and a magician kept us entertained. Located at the base of Lionshead Gondola. Watch the slopes while you dine.

Went for dinner. Felt like I was sitting in a 70s style lounge - ugly, odd, worn leather chairs, plain dark wood tables. Food came out fast which we were happy about. And service was good. Steaks were ok, Not the highest quality beef. The best thing out of all 5 apps, salads and entrees was the lobster Mac n cheese. The worst was the $15 roasted beet salad. A plate of field greens topped with a bunch of undercooked beets (definitely not roasted) and a pile of feta cheese, with the tart dressing on the side in a little plastic tub. I thought a place that has entrees in the $50-$60 range would be a bit nicer. And yeah- no need to dress up. Diners were wearing t-shirts and ski hats.

Good steaks with great service from Kevin. Good place for people watching.

This place is great! We had lunch here three times on a recent trip. Prices were about the same as anywhere and the patio is great on a sunny afternoon (right at the base of the gondola in Lionshead). The staff is great and the place is even decent for kids...as long as they can sit relatively still. As a general rule, the food is solid. Even though it was a bit overdone for my taste (medium rare), the lamb burger was juicy with the right amount of rosemary and garlic. The turkey club on croissant was nice.

Do not waste your time and money on this place. Food is mediocre, service and hospitality is HORRIBLE. The place is loud and not clean. Not sure how this place is still in business.

This restaurant is more overrated than JaMarcus Russell. Take your $200 and go to Sweet Basil instead. To sum it up: Bread came out cold (they microwave their bread, classy!) I had the bone-in ribeye. She had the lobster. I asked for medium rare, it was undercooked. So, I sent it back... came back overcooked. Lobster was good. There was a magician going from table to table, but skipped us. We were very very disappointed. Was like seeing a free ice cream truck pass by your neighborhood without stopping. Conclusion: The restaurant has a fabulous view of the moutain, especially when the sun is setting. Other than that, VC is simply a richman's outback steakhouse. See below for supplemental info: - Price: High - Atmosphere: 4/5 stars (Lots of WASP, think we were the only people under 25, great view of the slopes, plenty of family diners) - Service: 3/5 (Felt like servers were ageist) Big turnoffs: - Everything. This restaurant is so bad, Gordon Ramsay couldn't save it.

The Vail Chophouse is an especially nice restaurant to ski-in and ski-out. I had the lamb chops with some blue cheese crumbles on top, and the were really great! Withholding a 5-star rating because the service our waitress, Angie, provided was comically poor.

I visited Vail Chop House several times during my trip to Vail. I am a big fan of their Clam Chowder, which is a great choice for a quick and easy lunch. For dinner, their Fish was great. I also got a chance to try their Crab Cakes, which were amazing. My favorite part though, is their Lobster Mac and Cheese. They could improve their Draft Beer options.

Maybe it was because we dined during the offseason.....Prime rib and bone in ny strip really wasn't good compared with expectations and other steakhouses. Vegetables were not anything exciting. Shrimp wrapped with bacon was not really tasty either. Ie nothing that said, wow this is a good steakhouse. One bright spot was veal sausage.

I realize every restaurant has a bad night which may be why there are some bad reviews, but I could not have been more impressed! The food was amazing & the waitstaff went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Truly one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time! And of course it's expensive but what do you expect?! It's Vail!

I have been to Vail Chophouse Twice. The first time they didn't have our reservation. When we were seated the took a very long time to bring meals. My steak was ordered medium rare and came out well done. It was obvious. The waiter took it back. I kid you not, the next plate was so rare it was fit for a lion. I mean it wasn't even cooked. Anyway, the manager was nice enough to comp a free meal next time we were in town. So the next year we tried again but to no avail. Not even worth talking about the food. basically they have a great location and a transient crowd. Too bad. Could be so much better.

If It wasn't for the view of the mountains I would give this place a lower score. The service wasn't that great and the food was so so.

The location is great, right at the base of Lionshead. Unfortunately that is the only reason to dine here. The food is at best average. The beef is not up to a steakhouse type of experience. Lots of salt and butter overpower the food. The shrimp was wrapped in average bacon and the polenta was grainy. The server did a good job and was nice but even the large sliced of average key lime pie did not salvage the night. Better choices exist in the valley

Has to be one of the best locations but it is over priced for the quality of the food and service. It's okay for a quick bite if money is no object.

Honesty if you are going to spend the money head down to Lions Head and go to the Vail Chophouse (675 Lionshead Pl). There is a lovely patio and everything is top notch. I have been to almost every restaurant in Vail/Lions Head over the past 10 years and The Chophouse is my favorite.

Ate a nice lunch outside. Hubby had elk and jalapeño sausage. Great flavor and spicy, he would definitely recommend. I had chicken salad on croissant which was good but loved the sweet potatoes fries.

This place was the worst chophouse I've ever been to. I had their prime rib and grilled romaine salad with bacon dressing. The prime rib was served to us ice cold. We sent it back and they served the same piece of meat that tasted like they warmed it in a microwave. The center of the meat still was cold, but by this time, I had lost my appetite and didn't want to bother order anything else. The grilled romaine salad was also disappointing. Even their Mac n' Cheese was just average at best. I would never complain about the price if the food is good, but you will definitely be ripped off if you eat here. There are so many other great places to eat in Vail, so I highly recommend skipping this place.

It's my second time in Vail, and I'm a little bitter about the lack of quality food given the prices around here... That said, dinner at Vail Chophouse was very enjoyable -- primarily due to great service -- although I'm glad we weren't that hungry... The best part of the meal was the truffled Mac 'n Cheese -- absolutely delicious -- and only one of maybe seven choices of Mac 'n Cheese. The mushrooms we had as a side were fine. The mushrooms (button?) were sauteed, but did not come with much flavor (could've used some garlic...). The weak point was the meat. The cooks here know how to cook a steak well: our ribeye came slightly rarer than medium rare (as ordered), however I was really disappointed with the quality of the meat. Back home, we could get two very nicely marbled ribeyes at the local Whole Foods for $40. Here, we got an 18oz candidate for Biggest Loser. Tender and flavorful, yes, but I do not enjoy taking a knife to my ribeye in order to separate the meat from the lakes of fat throughout. While tasty, for the price paid, I would expect a better piece of meat. Am I spoiled by steakhouses in NY and DC? Probably, but they've let me down too at times. So, I would gladly give these guys another shot given the great service as well as mac 'n cheese. But will be wary of the meat supply. Otherwise, expect 100% markup on wine from retail prices. There is a wide selection of premium wines, however I found their value-priced wine selection to be a bit limited.

We had a great dinner. Ryan or waiter was excellent and accommodated or requests superbly. I was in the mood for steak and eggs and had the off menu bone in ribeye with a poached egg on top, which was very good. The blue cheese infused tater tots were out of this world and are a must.

I can't say enough bad things about this overpriced joke of a steak house. The $50 Mew York strip I had was the worst steak I have experienced anywhere and did not even come with a side. My dinner companions agreed. They messed up our order several times and still tried to charge us for sides they brought that we did not order. I can't believe the lack of quality with everything from the artichoke tip, to the filet, to the mac and cheese. All of which was extremely overpriced. I hope this will help someone else from making a $500 disgusting mistake.

I'm a bit surprised at the reviews for this place. It's on the lower end of high end steak & seafood restaurants. It's good food for the price you pay and the servers were very nice and friendly. In fact we were surprised at how reasonable the seafood tower was for what was included ... too bad this was after the fact ... had we know earlier, we would have ordered two!!! Would I go back? If I were in Vail and felt like steak, 100%.
