Closest thing this town has to a dive bar. They're so British the fish & chips even comes with peas! Great place to go when you want happy hour of cheap drinks from 6-10. Also great for when you just want some freakin' pub food in a laid-back spot.

Our experience at The George was less than great. After arriving, we asked to wait for a booth. They told us it would be a while. We waited at the bar. Not a big deal. When they did seat my boyfriend and I, they brought us water. One of the waters had a bug in it. We brought it to the attention of our server, Kevin. He then proceeded to provide us with the worst service I have ever experienced. When our meals came, we had to flag him down to get silverware. He spoke with every table around us and simply ignored us. We had to basically jump in front of him as he whizzed past us to ask for another beer. The food was really good. I had the crab leg special and my boyfriend had suck and turf. Excellent food. Not sure why we were treated so poorly after finding a bug in our water. This service was the worst I have ever experienced. Great job with the service recovery (not!). This was a special night out for my boyfriend and I and thanks Kevin for really ruining a nice meal.

My wife and extended family enjoyed a great happy hour meal and drinks at the George. The ambiance, cleanliness and the professionalism of the staff deserved four stars. The food was at a three and a half star level. We orders the mushroom and duck quesadilla and the regular green chili quesadilla. Theses two menu items were the best! We also got the grill ahi tuna and the spring roles ...we felt they were subpar at the most and both had very minimal flavor. However, we do recommend the happy hour drink specials $4.50...any drink!

We were in Vail for a conference and decided to try this basement hot spot and it was a fantastic evening! It felt like a locals hangout. Service was fantastic and so was the duck!

Pub feel, with different seating options (bar, booths, tables and couches.) Very dark but clean atmosphere and the bathrooms are unique and colorful! My husband and I and extended family ordered a variety of plates and shared it all. The chicken quesadilla was delicious and the salsa was great also (until they ran out.) They ordered the duck quesadilla and thought it was unique and tasted great! My husband and I also shared the tuna and spring rolls, they were just ok. They do have great happy hour drink prices at $4.50 for any drink they serve! I would recommend this place for anyone who wants a quick drink or a casual meal!

Best value in Vail. $22 for crab and steak surf and turf. Both the crab and the steak were well cooked and delicious. Crab was the best. Will definitely be back next time we're in Vail

Solid duck dish and philly cheese steaks that pleased a born and raised in Philly cheesesteaks connoisseur.

This is certainly a great hangout and what seems to be a popular happy hour spot among the Vail locals. Though the food wasn't anything transcendental, it's perfect for a bar environment. An eclectic mix of menu options that range from Poutine to Crab Legs intimidated me a bit, which eventually led me into order anxiety and a plate of nachos. Not as exciting as the other options, but nachos it was. It was a big pile of chips with not the best topping:chip ratio, but I blame that on my order anxiety. The decor is busy, fun, and homey. And the staff was friendly and fast. This place recalls a scene from the movie Ski School - a local hang out after a fun day on the slopes. I bet a lot of fun memories are made here.

Chill vibe and the best value in Vail. Date of Visit: 7/25/14 Heard about The George's great Happy Hour and menu specials, and decided to take it for a spin. Upon entering, you sort of feel like you're in someone's really cool basement. This is not meant to be a slight; I say that because there is all sorts of neat photos and wall attire to check out. The bartenders and staff are extremely attentive, and make a mean martini. We enjoyed the locally famous Surf-N-Turf, which was a steal at $22. The gf had the duck with plum sauce. Both were great portions, and pretty impressive quality, especially for the price. When you tack on the ridiculously good HH deal ($3/$5 You-Call-Its), it's easy to see why The George has become a local legend.

One of the hidden pubs in Vail. We were on vacation in Vail and we're staying at the Vail's Mountain Haus. I searched on Yelp for a good place to eat and read the many posts about this place and I even asked the desk receptionist about it. Everyone I asked recommended it, so we gave it a try. We were not disappointed at all. The wings were great, the burgers were great and were served with ample amount of fries. The beer was very reasonable compared to the other bars/restaurants and their prices for food was great. We had three in our party and had four beers, two ginger ales, three burgers, and wings, and the brownie and ice cream desert, all for $65 and some loose change. The only drawback was it only opened at 6pm and it is in the basement of the Vail's Mountain Haus so dining outside is not possible. The menu is also great with many options. So go there and be satisfied.

Classic ski bar with very tasty cheese burgers. One star off because they did not serve sweet potato fries. Also, Zack the bartender is very cool.

My favorite place in vail and a hidden locals spot. Great great great happy hour with lots of locals from 3 to 9 pm where all wines/beers at $4.50 and also the food is $23 for most entrees (I got the surf and turf which was king crab + steak which was a huge). Also great location just off the main vail village. Fun fun fun.

If you don't care for outdoor seating and live entertainment - this place is literally the "hidden gem of Vail" -- Fantastic, long happy hour (3-9pm) with $4.50 anything from the bar.. Amazing!

The après ski nachos ($9) are delicious. Huge portion, toppings and cheese throughout!

Shuttle driver recommended it so my family checked it out. Very good! Small but really good menu. My mom and I had plumb duck, dad had scallops and mushroom risotto and my sis had Mac and cheese. Dad loved his and sis said Mac and cheese was tasty. I really really liked the duck. But the best had to be the mushroom duck quesadilla appetizer we split. Yummmmm!

  • George M.

Had the duck last night. Excellent! It was Happy hour and everything was reduced price. Surf and Turf was $22.00! My duck was $19.00. Glass of Bombay blue sapphire was $4.50. This is a bar/restaurant with a very friendly staff. Only gave it 4 stars because it is not fancy or upscale. Great place.

  • Joe T.

There was nothing special about the surf and turf special. I felt like they should have paid me to eat it. The sirloin gave my jaw a workout and the crab tasted like it was from last season. Cheap drinks though.

Awesome dive bar with a hell of a cook staff. I stopped in here for a pint of guiness the first night in vail and loved the charm. Ended up having the poutine and damn it hit the spot after travelling 8 hours. Next we decided to stay for dinner. Had the plum duck.... yes duck at a dive bar. It was fantastic. My girlfriend had the fish and chips and they were great as well. So all in all a dive bar with an excellent kitchen and pool tables that knows how to pour a great pint of guiness. Can you ask for anything better?

The staff is awesome, and an overall cool place to chill. The george is the go to spot in vail village

  • Bruce M.

Quaint and cozy, purely local pub! Drinks are only $4.50 from 6 to 10 PM - you can't beat that, particularly in Vail! Food was good and service was excellent and friendly. Don't expect anything fancy. Even the stuffing is coming out of the chairs. Just a nice break from all the Vail fanciness.

Told Waitress to put our name in for a table. Before we could finish our cold Fat Tire Beers.... We had a booth. Just like the YELP reviews read, we had the king crab and steak for $23.00. Our son had a pound of king crab legs too for $23.00. Served with hot butter and veggies. I recommended this place. Not for white napkin yuppies........A++++. Loved it and so did my wife and 6/10 yr olds

I still have intimate dreams about the $22 Surf & Turf and would fly back to Vail just for this. Our group of 4 walked into the crowded restaurant around 4:30PM and expected a wait. We were told 45 min for a table so we ordered a few apps and drinks at the bar. EVERY DRINK is $4.50!!! Red Bull & Grey Goose...$4.50. Glenmorangie 12 yr....$4.50. Simply amazing. We were actually seated in 25 min which made the deal even sweeter. 3 out of the 4 ordered the Surf & Turf while 1 ordered the Shroomin Rib Eye. Let's just say we were silent for a good 30 min while everyone inhaled their meals. We did $150 worth of damage which we didn't complain about at all considering how much we ate/drank. The service was also great and we had a grand time. We WILL be back when we're in the area!

Decent place with good value in the village. We stopped by around 5:30 on a Saturday evening after a day of skiing as a party of 6, and it was fairly crowded in spite of having a fair amount of seating, so we had to wait for about 20-30 minutes to get seated. We split a bunch of wings and the crab mac and cheese as starters, which were decent but nothing particularly special. They have an abundance of happy hour specials, which include fairly cheap drinks and discounted entree prices. I had the surf and turf, which had meat that was pretty tender and tasty, along with merely okay crab legs (and large portions); the latter was oversteamed, making it a bit hard to get the crab meat out. I also had some of the Nuts and Berries hot chocolate, which was very tasty as the Frangelico and raspberry liqueur went very well with the chocolate, and it was also discounted for happy hour. Overall, the quality of food was not amazing but solid, but the happy hour specials made it good value. There's a lot of comfortable seating and has a laidback vibe to it, making it a nice spot for groups of varying sizes after a long day on the slopes.

  • Marilyn T.

I don't know how they make money. 3-9pm happy hour is still my favorite thing to do. $4.50 drinks (Don Julio, Grey goose, whiskey), $9.50 appetizers, $22 for filet or surf and turf, $19 for everything else. We had massive amounts of food and a ton of leftovers for a fraction of the price of everything else in Vail.

  • Anthony M.

Unique local bar with excellent atmosphere, happy hour and local feel. I also tried their food; they have a phenomenal french onion soup and a not so phenomenal Shepard's pie. I like the feel of the leather lounge chairs, pool, foosball and overall comfortable nature of this place. $4.50 you call it happy hour... wow. Gets pretty packed on a Friday and Saturday night. Get there early off the slopes or after work.

Hidden secret in basement. Great happy hour. Food is discounted along with drinks. Ribeye was cooked perfect gravy and mushrooms tasted great on real mashed potatoes. Vegetables were done just right not mushy. George 's burger was delicious and big. Fries crisp and tasty and hot. Will come back. Best deal in Vail.

We were driving through Vail on a road trip and decided to stop for dinner. We found this place on yelp and it seemed to have a good menu with decent prices for the city. When we arrived, we were pleasantly greeted by wait staff at the bar letting us know we could sit where ever we wanted given that the restaurant was fairly empty on this Thursday evening. The atmosphere was very relaxed. Our waitress was great. She was very accommodating even when we asked for a steak to be recooked because it was a little over done. She said they were fortunate enough to have an owner that really wanted everything to go right for the customer and there was no problem recooking the steak. She was very sweet and helpful. She even threw in a free dessert because of the inconvenience. It was a great experience. My dad and I both got the surf and turf which is on the menu for 30 dollars, but we were informed before we ordered that it was happy hour and the entrées and appetizers were at reduced prices. The surf and turf which was amazingly prepared and delicious was only 20 dollars. Such a steal. It was well worth the 30 dollars. Had a great experience and if I am ever in Vail again I will definitely be eating there again.

Had the bacon cheese burger an it was amazing. They cook to order and the bacon is thick and delicious. The prices were great and a really cool laid back atmosphere.

Went to a happy hour here (3- 9pm) which had awesome specials, especially for being in the Vail village, $4.50 for anything from the bar and they mean anything! Also food specials, we took advantage of the $9.50 starters special and order poutine, ahi tuna, and the spring rolls! Everything was really delicious! The drinks were great, the atmosphere was fun, and the service (our waitress Sage) was awesome and really nice! Definitely would come back here, especially for that happy hour deal!

A really great place to eat. We ordered surf and turf and we were pleasantly surprised with the service and the taste. The food was delicious and Torry (our waitress) was very helpful with her knowledge of the menu. She was very helpful and attentive at all time. The prices were better than any other restaurant in Vail.

The tomato soup is vegan, which is cool. I wasn't impressed with the beer selection (both on tap *and* bottled which was unfortunate), and unfortunately The George tends to attract a large and loud crowd of bros... So... Not my ideal place to eat.

First-timers to the area, it was opening weekend for Beaver Creek mountain but still very quiet around the villages so several places were still closed. After a day of walking around Vail Village and hopping into places for cocktails and light snacking, we decided to check out The George. The scene: "basement-ish" level of a hotel, dark, dive bar-esque. Sat at the bar for $3 well drinks and $2 beer. A nice little start but then they told us about the $20 surf and turf. We typically don't order those, but thought, why not? We decided to split it. IT.WAS.SO.GOOD! Didn't expect king crab legs and a beautiful filet mignon to come out - perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection, this was really good! The couple next to us were snacking on the duck quesadillas and we had plate envy for a little bit until ours game out. Great place to hang out and enjoy a low key night, a nice change of pace from the overpriced restaurants in the valley! I actually rate the quality of this dinner much higher than the Splendido at the Chateau that we went to the following night.

Just do it. The ambience is amazing and fun. The food just adds to the intensity. I have to admit , I went after skiing , so all the food was delicious cause I was so hungry . But overall, I'm pleased with the food and you'll just have to trust me on this one. Good value compared to other restaurants. I had the seared tuna salad. The salad wasn't mixed greens , seemed like ice berg lettuce , so nutrients were lacking in the salad. But the tuna was like a foodgasm. I also ordered buffalo wings. These were better than Buffalo Wild Wings wings. Enough said.

A small walk from any parking, but right in the village. At first it looks like a dungeony bar, but the food was surprisingly good! Not a place you would expect to order king crab legs or steak, but I had an awesome sirloin, and the quesadilla's looked delish! The atmosphere is perfect for after skiing or going for a drink and apps. Loved it.

The George has great food and happy hour deals for us local Coloradans that come to Vail often. I don't feel like I'm breaking the bank for a meal the king crab legs rock... And play some pool afterward. Great lil spot and good prices for this town.

WOW what a surprise. $16 bucks for a perfectly prepared piece of Salmon in Vail!!! THe salmon was so good we went back two nights in a row and to be honest I would have gone back the third night as well. All the plates coming out of the kitchen looked large and appetizing. My friends had the grilled duck ($16) and swore it was the best they ever had. This is a definite place to return again and again. What a great find. Actually I have past by the place for 20 years since it is just before the covered bridge in Vail Village but never knew the food was so good. GREAT FOOD GREAT SERVICE GREAT PRICES!!

Rolled in a little before 7pm on a Friday based on some of the reviews we saw. We were not disappointed. This is not your average 'fine dining' Vail establishment. It's an underground kinda hole in the wall bar/restaurant (but not dirty or anything like that). It was packed with a younger crowd and playing good music. Very laid back. The happy hour was awesome. A few beers from $3 and the rest at $4.50. The kicker was the king crab legs. $22 for 1lb! What? That's hard to beat anywhere in Denver let alone Vail. We also had the cajun tuna sandwich and polished that off in a matter of minutes. Bar staff was pretty funny.

Really solid food for the value, the steak and duck plates are great. Happy hour drinks and specials are unbeatable in Vail. Esp from 3-9. Great vibe, good crowd, excellent bartenders, cool seating and back room with pool tables. Skip the over crowded Red Lion and head to El Jefe for your apres-ski

The night before our wallet got taken to the cleaners but what do you expect....it's Vail. The next day we stopped at the George. First of all it's a really cool laid back atmosphere. I liked the community style comfy couches. You can meet some interesting people while having brews and great food We got there at happy hour on a Saturday after a day if snowboarding....which I have to say the slopes are great out here! Beers - $4.50 draught Food - everything $9.50 or under except premium dishes which are $19-$23. Service - phenomenal. Emily was great! You can't go wrong here. I love it.

Looking for a night out and a nice all around good meal that you don't have to give up a leg for? I mean, I'm sure you're already spending enough just breathing the air in Vail. So whether you're in town for a week or just a night, definitely hit up The George for the surf and turf dinner! Upgrade to the filet for only $9. Total is roughly $30 for a full on Filet and King crab dinner. There are a lot of great places around, but it's the best bang for buck meal. And they have $4.50 you call it from 4:30-9:30 as well as $3 redstripes after 9:30. Pool tables and darts on one end and a lounge on the other end with a bar in between. I'm only giving them 4 stars because it can definitely turn into sort of a hole late in the evenings with the younger crowd rolling in so things can get a bit crazy, but get there before 10 and you'll be alright. Unless you like crazy, then go all in! I can't wait to be back! Peace and love.

We are vacationing from cleveland and used yelp to pick this restaurant for dinner. It is conveniently located in vail. The food and service were excellent and the Prices were amazing! My wife had surf and turf with a delicious steak and several crab legs for $20. All well drinks were $4.50. At other places in Vail this would've been more than twice as much and the taste was fantastic. The service was wonderful. The salads were fresh and delicious. The restaurant is located on the ground floor of the large building. It is hard to find with just the street address but with a little walking around after you park it is not difficult to find. All the staff, from waiter to bartender to chef worked together and seemed committed to making this a wonderful experience, which it was!

Great Deal on the Crab Legs but it was obvious that the employees are taking full advantage of the new legalization in Colorado. If you are willing to put up with terrible service and completely absent minded waiters then the food is worth the wait. Once we were finally seated another employee came over and apologized and told us we need to vacate the table for another party and wait another 1/2 an hour. We had some very patient people in our group who were willing to wait. I have never experienced something like this in another restaurant. If you keep your service expectations very very low you will be rewarded with some great crab legs.

another day of snowboarding complete...vail mountain conquered in the second day cold...opens after 3pm...down the dungeons of the george...cellphone reception gone...bar, lounge and game room present...$one foosball and $one.fifty pool table playing...lay on the reclined chairs, sit on the bar stools or relax on the sofas...sofa seat and coffee table dining...order of hot and extremely loaded nachos $nine...thick slabs of great quesadilla $nine....decent shepherd's pie $nine...greatest fish and chip experience $nine... s3-media2.ak.yelpcdn.com… perfect rare seared cajun tuna sandwich $nine... s3-media3.ak.yelpcdn.com… happy hour specials of $nine all food...$four.fifty all drinks...highly recommend the fish and chips!..

This place has the best happy hour! 3 till 9... been twice in 3 days and would happily come back. I just had one of the best surf and turfs I've had, $22 for king crab legs and a steak. Washed down with $4.50 top shelf spirits. The only downside I'd say is the steak was a little over medium-rare which I asked for. Happily recommend this place to anyone.

    (5)

Just the very best food and drink in vail, period. Go for the surf and turf, stay for the couches. Great place, friendly service. $4.50 you call it drink until 9. Go now.

3-9 happy hour pricing made this a good value for Vail. Liked the nachos and seared tuna caesar. Will have the $22 pile of crab legs next time.

Very good meal, would go back. Some folks had the surf-n-turf and thought it was great. I had the filet and it was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. Very reasonable prices, nice happy hour. I was excited they had hard cider...Strongbow, which is a really good one. Good meal!

You can not beat this happy hour. Dale's pale ale on tap and top wines as well. Lots of tv's and comfy couches and lounge seating. Show up before 7 and there should be plenty of space.

Food and drinks are fine in this high energy atmosphere of mostly apres skiers. Service is good and spot on and prices are decent as well. Great bar type food for hungry people and drinks are $4.50 so you won't break the bank.

Not too shabby. A great place for Apres Ski but not the best place for dinner - especially for your vegan friends. I like the feel of this place a lot, it is in a basement and it seems like people check their egos at the door which is refreshing. They have great deals on their whole menu so it is totally worth checking out!

  • Janna L.

The George had a great happy hour special when I went with a group of friends on a Friday night. It lasted until 9pm and all drinks were $4! What a steal- top shelf drinks for extra low prices. Count me in! I ordered a steak with mashed potatoes and wasn't too impressed. The steak was tender but it was drowning in their "homemade" steak sauce. Totally unneccessary, in my opinion. The steak would have been fine on its own. If you go, make sure you check out all the wall art. It's filled with photos of famous Georges!

    (3)
  • Nik N.

We only had drinks here, but I really like the atmosphere. There are tvs and comfy couches set up like multiple living rooms. Drinks were average price, we had a super friendly and helpful waitress who suggested several places for our next stops. The only downside is the lighting is very harsh and kinda hurts your eyes which is partially why we moved on!

    (4)
  • Becky S.

If nothing else, the Happy Hour meal prices (until 9pm!) are an absolute godsend in the usually pointlessly overpriced Vail Village. Fortunately, George's is actually quite tasty. The sesame encrusted tuna with field greens was a little bland, but the soy dressing really helped. The burgers were generously sized and tasty, and the fish and chips was nicely crispy. If you aren't into the louder bar scene, try to finish before 10:00. We were particularly amused by the wall of 'Georges,' even if neither we nor the staff could figure out all who of them were.

Was in Vail this past week and the George was a recommendation from a local so we dropped in to see what it was about. I really liked the atmosphere, very cozy & laid back..couches and comfy leather chairs. I ordered a Shepherd's Pie & my companion ordered the surf n turf (steak w/crab legs) which were all very good. The drinks were pretty delish too, I had a Qualude (coffee w/all types of liquor), a chocolate martini and he had spiked chocolate. Waitress was very friendly and we really liked how chill the place was. Came back on the weekend but it was very crowded and they had stopped serving food so we went to Vendetta's for pizza. If I come back to Vail, The George will be a must do!

Apres ski! Yes! $4 you call it drinks, $20 surf and turf, $8 pub menu how can you beat that! Don't expect high caliber food - its good for what it is and for the price.

  • Dan N.

Great place to chill apres ski. $4 u-call-it during happy hour. It's in the lower level of the Mountain House, and has a great, subterranean feel. Comfy leather club chairs and sofas if you can grab one. Lot's of portraits on the wall of the pub's namesakes.

  • Rhett S.

The George is still the reigning champion when it comes to apres ski in vail. All drinks are $4.50 during happy hours from 3-7pm. Awesome!!!

Great bar hidden underneath a hotel. Prices aren't horrible. I came in around 930pm and it was packed. I came back again around 1am and once again, it was still packed. Good thing though, there were some guys who were really nice and gave up their seat to me and spent the night standing while they watched basketball on the TV screens :)

The George is cozy, fun and provides the best value in Vail, hands down. My husband and I were in Vail on our honeymoon and after dropping big bucks at the Game Creek Restaurant (phenomenal, but crazy pricey), the George was a refreshing change of pace. Our waiter, Van, was awesome. Do not (I repeat...do not!) miss their happy hour from 3 - 9 p.m. All food and top-shelf liquor is priced at a discount. I think our Manhattans made with Bullet Bourbon were only $5 each (what?!), and we both had the crab leg special: one pound of king crab legs with sides for only $20! And it was delicious. I don't know how they do it, but I hope they never stop. The George is now on our list of must-visits on every trip to Vail.

  • Johnny C.

Great spot right in Vail Village very cozy pubby atmosphere with a simple menu of great tasting bar food at reasonable prices considering the area. The place is hard to find since it is tucked away inside a building down a long hallway. So you need to ask locals where it is. The only annoying thing is that the place is full of Townies. So try to take up their favorite spots around bar which they seem to always monopolize and feel they own - Townies get back to work serving me food and cleaning off my chairlift seat. We all know the truth; you're all originally Flat Landers from Hicktowns nowhere near Colorado.

Laid-back vibe. Great service; friendly cute server. Happy hour deals on food were awesome. We recommend the surf and turf for $22, filet & veggies, and chicken caesar salad. Warning: do NOT order the brownie sundae. It is so good that you just might lick the plate clean and then order another one! You'll sink into the comfy couches with dessert guilt and a content smile. After a long day of skiing, you deserve it!

Came down staying at Mountain Haus. Great food for the price most amazing service we had all week and during happy hour the deals were great. Young and Loud crowd we felt great here.

Good pub food. The atmosphere is really cool and the happy hour runs from 3 pm til 9pm. Good cheap drinks and good food. The king crab legs for $22 is a great deal and perfectly prepared. You can't go wrong here for a good reasonably priced dinner or drinks and snacks.

This place is really fun! They have pool tables and foosball tables. Lots of locals hang out there and they have a great lounge to rest tired legs.

The George is wonderful! It's the perfect, low key, genuine and authentic bar/restaurant if you're looking to escape the typical Vail bs. The happy hour specials, starting at. 3:00pm can't be beat! The beer is fine, they have wine and cocktails which are also happy-houred. Come in straight off the slopes, bring your skis with you, and sit on the leather recliners or couches and order some appetizers. The surf and turf special is absolutely worth it!

A bar with a very small but very good menu. The sandwiches and salads are excellent and affordable. The main entrees are pricy. My wife had the seared tuna salad which was outstanding. I had the spicy tuna sandwich which was also excellent.

Overrated! Visiting Vail for Spring Break from Indiana with 18 yr old senior, who chose to be with family instead of partying in Mexico with friends. Staying at the Marriott, which is AMAZING...customer service rivals the Ritz, and we ask, "if you could choose one place that is a MUST visit, where would that be?" The response was, "The George". So, we show up at 7pm on a Saturday evening, early by Vail standards, only to be turned away because apparently our 18 year old looks too close to 21 to enter. The 11 year old is allowed to enter, but not the 18 year old. We think the bouncer is joking, and try to clarify that we only want to eat, not stay to tie one on. Clearly not joking, he sends us on our way. The story ends with us dropping $300 at Lancelots for dinner, which rates 5 stars by the way. Sorry George, we won't be back when he turns 21. Plenty of fine establishments in Vail that want the business!

A pound of crab legs for $20? Yes please. $4 u-call-its until 9pm? See you again soon, George.

This place is okay. Not great, not terrible. The George is one of the few late night places to grab a beer after Vail turns off the lights. The George is where the locals hang out, who were all very nice.

We went to The George for dinner and found it to be an island of sanity in the overhyped overpriced Vail restaurant scene. The George has a lot of happy hour type specials and daily specials that are very reasonable and their regular menu has a wide variety. My wife had the crab legs which are sometimes on special for $19.95 otherwise they are $30 but are even a good value at their regular price for the portion size. I had the roasted duck which was delicious and had the usual fat layer almost fully rendered off. Lots of screens for watching March Madness, great drink and dining specials and somewhat hidden underground location that makes you work to find it but if you do you will be rewarded.

Went to The George with my friend every day we were in vail. By far my favorite bar in vail village. The first night we had the happy hour crab leg special which is 20.00 and was downright delicious Alaskan King crab.nthey say it's 1lb but we seemed to agree it was more. They have good prices and a nice foosball table in the back that we frequented. Would recommend this bar to anyone.

Great bar! They had $3 Red Stripe specials, and even though it was packed, the bartenders work super hard and fast. They could upgrade thei cable so that all TV's have HD.

Lemme start off with the bad stuff . There isn't enough of it ! Would not recommend going here if you have a party bigger than 6 . The other complaint that I have is that there is no cell phone reception down there . Now , for the good stuff . My friends and I have been coming here our last two trips to Vail . And it never fails , most everyone gets the surf & turf . I mean , how can you not ? It's only $20 ( albeit it was $18 last year ) But I digress . I do admit , though , that it's not the best steak around . But the entire meal does wonders after about 4 hours of snowboarding . Especially if you are one of the lucky ones that get the claw with your surf and turf ! It is a hole-in-the-wall . But everyone's pretty cordial . Just be ready to wait in line though . I would recommend getting there around 6 to beat the crowd .

Holy King Crab Legs! We've found our new favorite Vail eatery! We've passed by this place dozens of times and checked out the menu touting the Surf & Turf Special for $20. We finally took the plunge and when we came up for air, we were smiling. The small basement eatery is half bar, half restaurant and full of locals. That should have been our biggest clue because locals generally know good food and good value. We shared a lovely salad before moving on to the delicious Surf & Turf, a generous plate of sirloin steak and two very large King Crab Legs. We are not steak eaters and therefore we not expecting to enjoy the steak as much as we did. It was delicious, I'll repeat that! It was delicious. The King Crabs Legs? You want to know about these two babies? Well, you'll have to check that out yourself because you simply won't believe me when I tell you they were the most heavenly tasting legs ever. George, we love you and we'll see you in July 2011.

Dive bar which is dark and underground (literally) but superb service and reasonably priced food and drink. Food was good. A great reprieve from the other absurdly priced restaurants in vail with the same menus.

  • P W.

This was a decent bar. My cousin used to live in Vail. He said this was their "dive". They were playing late 90's backpack hip hop like Louis Logic and others I can't remember. It was a nice place to unwind with my cousin and catch up on life.

A hidden gem!!! On our last night in Vail back in late August my sister and I are Sooooo glad this was the last dining experience!!! Surf & Turf..HELLOOO.. the best crab ever! Fraappitini was delicious...all 3 of them! Ha! Who knew that at the end of a long hallway off the beaten path in Vail you find this cool pubesque place with 5 star menu!! See you next year! A tip...take advantage of the bike valets. Adds to exoerience if you're staying in Vail!

This is the second time we have beed here. It is so good. We had the filet, king crab legs and hot wings. Everything was really good and the service was good as well. There were not many people in the restaurant. It was raining, so I assume that most people stayed in. Don't let that scare you. The food is really good. The menu is a lot bigger in the winter.

  • Hu Lee A.

Not going back. I like dives more than the next guy, but you get what you pay for here. Yes, it was inexpensive for a ski town, but the surf and turf were Golden Corral quality. Save your money and go somewhere else.

$3.75 Aprés-Ski/Snowboard Ketel One Martinis punctuate some of the highs and lows of my trips to Vail. You see, The George hosts a happy hour from 3pm to 7pm featuring a menu of healthy apps and starters for $7.75 and ANY DRINK for $3.75. The food menu is filled with solidly prepared bar food favorites like buffalo wings, nachos, and fish and chips, as well as more adventurous (and delicious) offerings like mushroom/duck quesadillas. recommendation: Get up early and hit the slopes to get fresh tracks and avoid the tourist/gaper crowd. Get off the mountain by 2:45pm, get yourself to The George by 3 to pick out one of the big leather couch areas in the main area (or else you'll be stuck in the povo game room in the back), order drinks and food. repeat as necessary.

I believe it needs to be pointed out that this place is a bar first and a restaurant second. The service was pretty slow and unattentive, and I can't help but think we would have been served better had we ordered alcohol. That being said, this place was recommended to us because of the steak and crab legs - and for $16, it was a great value and my dining companion said it was very tasty. The chicken sandwich and fries were subpar and were left virtually untouched. As for the service and atmosphere, the place has cozy lighting and couches, but they need new tables - I felt like I needed to use my Go Go Gadget Arm to reach down to my food... and I'm a short person. I also had to eat my food lukewarm because it took FOREVER to flag down a server to bring me silverware. Bottom line is come here to eat steak & crab, but don't expect great service unless you're making your server do beer runs.

Happy Hour is amazing and it goes until 9pm! You must try the Surf N Turf only $20!! Staff was friendly and prompt. A very laid back dining experience no BS. Great spot to have a quality dinner and drink for a good price!

It's all relative. Tricia and I had a small lunch at the Two Elks Lodge at the top of Vail Mountain. We split a burger (no fries), a Gatorade, a small cookie and a bag of chips. $22.50 The burger was a hockey puck. We went to The George after an amazing day in the back bowls drank a few pints each (and a few shots). The place was packed, but the wait for a drink was manageable. We sat near some really fun people and watched some playoff football. We got ALASKAN KING CRAB LEGS, with a some roasted potatoes and some fresh steamed veggies. $39.00 Including the booze. Now let me ask you this: With all of the restaurants in Vail serving ALASKAN KING CRAB LEGS for prices ranging from $50-$90- do you suppose they buy them daily from the "good" seafood delivery truck that drives to Vail and The George gets them from somewhere else? They were fantastic and they were $17.00. That's seriously ridiculous. Sitting in plush leather couches while eating them doesn't suck either. I'm also not angry about the $3.75 for any drink. I seriously love this place.

A fun bar that comes highly recommended (and is often the first recommendation) by pretty much every local you talk to in Vail. It features comfy couches, halfway decent bar food that I didn't hate, and most importantly, amazing drink specials that make walletitis---the not entirely fictitious feeling that your wallet is thinner and has less disposable income to rain upon your friends---a fading memory. If you are from out of town, be prepared to let locals (and the bouncers that let them) cut in line, and try not to let your mouth run off too much at your displeasure. The uncomfortable stares and irritation isn't worth ruining your buzz.

The food here sucks. We ordered a salad and a Mac n cheese. The dishes were eatable but not enjoyable. We double down on a tomato soup + grilled cheese. It was a bad bet, the tomato soup tasted like watered down marinara and the grilled cheese had a cheap white sludge in between the bread. Drinks are fine.

What a treat! This place was as good to my taste buds as it was to my wallet! We had a group of five people and ate and drank until we had to be rolled out of there. Crab legs and steak for $16...and it was a ton of crab legs and a huge steak! Drinks for $4.00! AMAZING!

What a find! My friends and I were looking for a place to relax in Vail where we wouldn't be judged on how expensive our sunglasses were or on whether or not my hair was colored by a hairdresser in Paris. The George is adorable, pool tables, flat screens, old wood, huge couches and tables to congregate around and fantastic waitstaff! Our server, Emily, was so sweet one of us called her a "Sprite"...like a woodland fairy. Hahah! The food was also surprisingly good - it doesn't have to be good at Vail, people pay major bucks for mediocre, but this was delicious. Sashimi grade tuna appetizer (about 8 oz!) for $9! What?! Amazing! Spring rolls were light, crispy and greaseless. French onion soup came in a real crock and had a rich broth and melty cheese. The duck entree was $16 and was some of the best duck ever - crispy, crackly skin, melt in your mouth meat, no nasty wobbly fat! It came with a plum sauce and rich, chewy grains of wild rice and more of those spring rolls. Where did this place come from?! I couldn't recommend it more highly. It's like a genuine dive bar, but with good food and delightful staff. A place that's comfy like your living room...but with better chow! =P

My favorite place in Vail. The best happy hour/best hidden gem in Vail!!!!!!!!!!!! This review is not going to help it stay hidden. If you can't find it, pleeeeeaaaase give up, so I don't have to wait for a table

The best deal in town for the best meal in town! How can you beat a delicious sirloin and king crab legs for $20?

  • Nate Z.

I hesitate to write this only because I'd hate for this secret to get out, but The George is outstanding! You can't beat the $16 crab & steak entree available between 6-9 pm. The concierge at our hotel just a stone's throw away didn't even know about this place & tried to persuade to go elsewhere. Yelp reviewers have yet to fail me and their high regard for The George was no exception!

Came here for apres ski beers and dinner. Got there after a full day on the mountain with roaring appetites. The three of us scored a table with couches right away. Can't get any better than $4 you call it drinks and their happy hour appetizers. The chicken nachos were insane, huge tower of cheesy goodness. We were full after devouring the nachos and a beer. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive. While I was enjoying the comfort of the couch and sipping my brewski post nacho chow-down session, I couldn't help but grin from ear to ear. The George is a perfect ski-town bar to remind you that you're on vacation and enjoying the best of Vail. All in all, a perfect end to an epic day on the mountain.

Great hidden basement location for apres ski. Get off the hill a little early to secure one of the huge oversized leather couches to recover in. $4 happy hour for any drink you want until 9pm in vail?!?! This is the place to be. Awesome chicken nachos and service.

Its been my experience so far that food in Vail is either overpriced or when reasonably priced fairly mediocre. The George is a nice gem in Vail Village. Its a bit tough to find (hint, you have to take the stairs down). Now if you're looking for a restuarant with ambiance, this place isn't it. Primarily its a bar and they have 8 or 9 booths/table in the back surrounded by a bunch of couches. The food selected is somewhat limited, but what they do serve is excellent and reasonably priced. The wild mushroom and roated duck quesidilla for $10 was amazing! The surf and turf with fillet mignon and a 1/2 pound or king crab for $25 (it was on special last night) was cooked to perfection. The crab was amazingsly seasoned, the steak perfectly cooked, the vegetables crunchy and seasoned well and potato wedges cooked just right. The only reason this place wouldn't get 5 stars from me is because it really is set up like a bar. But the decor is actually kind of interesting when you start looking around. And they have lots of TVs so if you don't want to carry a conversation with whoever you came to dinner with, it's easy to get distracted =)

  • Kristy L.

Can't beat $4 you-call-em drinks with the longest happy hour I know... 4-9! Excellent burger, which was perfect to share. Very good egg rolls. And you can bring your board/skis inside.

I liked the George a lot better before all the tourists got to town. I love the fact that it's a basement bar, but being from the East Coast it's weird to be in a dark cellar type place without smoke. I don't smoke myself but there is something comforting about being pissed off at the guy next to you when he blows it in your face unknowingly. This place gets EXTREMELY crowded during peak weeks and holidays so if you aren't there for a reason you're better off going somewhere with a more open bar. I prefered either the Taproom or Sandbar, but both of those can also get crowded and touristy. The food here is ok, but nothing to awe over. Service is friendly but sometimes the pricing gets weird depending on who is serving you at the bar.

    (3)
  • Nicole M.

El Jorge, as I lovingly refer to it, used to be a bit unbearable with bar-stank before the smoking ban was passed. Now, it's a good option when hitting the nightlife of Vail. The couches are comfortable, the bartenders are superb (love ya Lee!), and the drinks are priced decently for the valley. Overall, great place in Vail (just don't tell too many tourists!).

This is by far the best place in Vail. The food is awesome and the apres prices are unbeatable. Everyhting on the menu is delicious and its very comfortable to chill in after a long day riding or to come find some hotties at night. I recommend this place to anyone who is wondering.

Exceeded our expectations for a local bar. Took the family there and found great food for a great price. The place became packed as the night went along, yet the service continued to be excellent.

The George is everything you can ask for a whole lot more. Situated in Vail Village, this place is homey place with comfy leather sofas and damn good food. Whether it is the Fat Tire on tap, or the mix of locals and tourists, or just the general vibe altogether, The George is good eats on a cheap budget!

    (4)
  • Leslie R.

If you are willing to bypass almost every establishment in Vail en route from the slopes to make it within eyeshot of the parking lot and then down a long, dark hallway, you'll be rewarded with the probably the best deal for apres ski in Vail. Specials on both food on drink, a chill environment with ample couches: it's the perfect place to rehash your best runs of the day with your friends!

    (4)
  • Lisa L.

The George is where townies go to unwind over a beer, fart, and bitch about how much they hate the tourists whose money incidentally pays their salaries. Seriously, crop dusting is a major issue in this town -- you are subject to farting townies at every bar in Vail, not to mention the bus. But this is not The George's fault. I really like The George. It's loungey and divey in the right proportions. It gets hopping after 11 when Vail's restaurant waitstaff gets off work. If you're a local, the bartenders and patrons will treat you like a king, if you're not, they will treat you with indifference and sometimes open contempt. But that's Vail. A huge plus at The George is that no matter how packed it gets, there will never be a line for the ladies' room because the male-female ratio at this place is about 85-1. The cougars haven't discovered it yet so enjoy it while you have the chance.

Let's just say I've had my fill of Apres ski all over this country and it doesn't get any better than at the GEORGE! They have a Happy Hour that includes TOP SHELF liquors for $3.75 from 3-7PM. That's music to my ears. Or if you prefer a $1.50 High LIfe they got ya covered as well. I can't say I order this anywhere else come to think of it, but their Shepherd's Pie is delish. You're allowed to bring your gear into the bar, they have lounge seating, regular booths, a game room with two pool tables, darts, foosball, reclining chair section, and a big L shaped bar. They keep it dimly lit, and it's down in almost a basement type setting across from the 10th Mountain Division statue. I think they have the best crowd in all of Vail, not to mention the best prices on everything. Do not skip out on the seafood specials. I mean come on! King Crab for $17? You can't beat that. The bar tenders are quick and friendly. It's also a great place to have a fun night when out in the village. Plus the bus stop is right out front of the entrance. What else could you ask for? I miss this spot almost daily. I can't stress enough this is a must visit for Apres.

This place is a hardcore local beer lounge. The food's better than you'd expect, but not amazing. It's a true local's joint, which isn't always the best thing if you're looking to meet interesting people and have a nice time out at a bar. Especially if you're a guy. There are about 85 local ski dudes in here, and maybe 3 or 4 local ski chicks. If I lived in Vail, I'd probably love this place. I don't.

    (3)
  • Tom M.

Recently went here for surf & turf and it was perfect. Plenty of Blue Moon on tap and we ended up getting extra crab because it was so good. Steak was just okay. Service was just okay; they weren't that busy and are first and foremost a bar, so I expected a little more attention to the quantity of beer in my glass.

    (4)
  • Todd K.

I agree, this is the place to be in the Vail Village for apres. It's definitely the local's favorite (ages 21-31) being a smidge off the beaten path and burried in a lower floor.

    (4)
  • Lindsay T.

I like the setting here. After a long day out on the slopes of Vail, the best place to go is here. Dark wood, board games on hand and plush leather couches. Oh yeah, good beer and food selection too.

unless you are so drunk that you don't even notice you are in the basement, then by all means go to the George. Yikes! I remember the George in it's heyday and pre-smoking ban, when the majority of the smoke wasn't from cigarettes. Definitely a favorite for the under 25 boarder-bum crowd.

    (2)
  • Beka S.

Best happy hour ever and a friendly staff too. $3.75 for a chocolate martini? Awesome.

    (5)
  • Jody M.

Best budget apres ski in vail. The happy hour prices are a much needed relief from gouging of America's most expensive ski resort. The bar snacks were pretty standard but the drinks and atmosphere were fantastic. Huge couches where you can lounge until you have warmed up every inch of your body.
