Excellent food were willing to incorporate extra ingredients with my burger and did a very good job of it. We were served by Mae who was extremely cheerful and provided excellent customer service. Definitely worth a visit.

I guess I had a different experience that a lot of the reviewers. Sat outside, had great service and the food was fantastic. The spinach salad had a great dressing and I thought the Mandarin oranges were a nice touch. The salmon entree was straight-up excellent. Getting beer and wine from the happy hour menu was a bonus. Especially when the waitress showed up with just a couple of minutes of happy hour left to find out if I wanted another brewski. Yes!

It was our last night in Vail, and I wish we found this place sooner. The first visit was actually taking an early afternoon break from skiing, and I was lucky to find a seat at the bar for a beer. The atmosphere was lively and comfortable, so we decided to make reservations for dinner especially with the variety of menus items that would appeal to every family member. The strip steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare, and my son cleaned his plate in record time. The baked potato casserole was excellent and would highly recommend it for a side dish to any entree. It was loaded with all the good stuff and baked in its own dish which was served sizzling with the steak. The Caesar salad with salmon was the perfect meal for my wife who appreciated the light portion of dressing. Could have done without the anchovies, but the purist will like the generous serving of that garnish. My bison burger was good but needed the bacon to add to the flavor. It was slightly over cooked from the medium that was ordered. The servers were attentive and prompt with every request. For Vail, the prices were reasonable for everything. The food quality was very good overall especially compared to the below average bar food available at other places at family friendly prices. The one big downside was the table designed for four. We would have preferred not to be crammed into a high top bar table for our party of five where your neighboring table is two feet away with barely enough room to get into your chair. It was a crowded night, so I guess we had to take what was given.

I was very disappointed with this restaurant. My mom and I decided to go have breakfast here. We were seated (with only one other table on the patio) and we're not greeted by a server for over ten minutes. It then took an additional ten minutes to get our latte. To continue the poor service, we sat for thirty minutes until we received our food. My skillet was tasty, however my mom's over easy eggs were overcooked and her English muffin was cold. We sent back the English muffin and we're not met with a piping got one, but another server questioning what was wrong. At this point I was even more with the restaurant because a manager did not even attempt to ask us how our meal was. Overall: plus: convenient and beautiful location at the base of the gondola Con: poor service and poor food

The food was awful and expansive. Both steaks we ordered were like gum, the schnitzel oversalted and green beans not cooked enough Bottom line - definitely not worth the money

NOT family friendly! One Host was very cold. Wanted us (wife and 3&6 yo) to wait near door that cold air cones in every time door opens. Then they gave away our table to someone that didn't even check in with host. Manager just says "Sorry"

We walked in and were asked how we could be helped....well we want to sit down and eat like most people do when entering a restaurant. The girl trying to seat us asked if we would like a table....yes we would like to eat! She was still having such a hard time that we just sat ourselves at the bar. The real reason I am giving this place one star is because of the food. It was horribly disgusting! My husband got the Lamb Bolognese and it tasted like it came from a school cafeteria. I got the Shrimp and Scallop Cannelloni under the "Pasta" section of the menu, but there was no pasta in my dish at all. The shrimp and crab was not fresh and smelled horrible. I'm not sure there was even scallops in it. Everything about this place was gross and the whole staff seemed really lost.

My overall experience was poor. We had to wait for approximate 1/2 hour for a table, which I don't mind due to the Labor Day traffic, but this place is grossly unorganized and inefficient, that irritates me. After finally being seated, we had to ask for help. Okay, so the eggs Benedict tasted good. The OJ was small, certainly not worth $5. So in conclusion, food is okay, the service is lacking and inefficient.

My husband and I were staying at the Lodge at Vail in Vail Village but decided to take a walk over to lionshed to have breakfast at the little diner. Upon arrival, the little diner was closed :/ We weren't sure where else to go but we stumbled upon this amazing place. Because we got there a little late, only the buffet was open, but we were pleasantly surprised. The buffet was amazing! Everything was hot, bacon was delicious, cinnamon rolls were to die for, and the omelet that was prepared for each of us was out of this world! This place may be a little expensive ($25 for the buffet) but it was well worth it! Very friendly staff and wonderful atmosphere! Highly recommend!

I think the three star rating for this place is pretty fair. The atmosphere is pretty nice and the location is great. The food is very mediocre especially for the price but this is Vail that's to be expected. If you're looking for a good place to get drinks and hang out, this isn't a bad option.

Ok so most people know restaurants right off the ski lifts generally aren't that good. This one is the exception. Very interesting menu, I loved the idea of some of the entrees and desserts [banana split with bacon see pix]. My elk sandwich was delicious, sad part was I had to share it :(. If you are in the area stop by!

The dining scene in vail, co is substantially focused towards high-end, fine dining which makes sense as this mountain town caters towards a major tourist population. Yet, some nights, you just want to kick off your ski boots and have a tasty meal without breaking the bank (relatively speaking as we are still talking about a tourist destination). Enter tavern on the square. This approachable but classy spot has high-arched ceilings and dark wood trim to bring some sophistication to the space. However, the flat-screen tvs, smattering of high-top tables and kid menus aplenty, shows that this dining scene is made for the masses. Steps away from the eagle bahn gondola inside the arrabelle hotel, diners will find typical bar fare such as chicken wings, a handful of burgers and a couple higher priced items like steaks and chops. The burger options range from a traditional cheese burger with all natural angus beef to a black label burger with honey mustard on a pretzel roll to, my personal favorite, the ahi tuna burger; lightly seared and topped with creamy avocado, wasabi mayo and peppery arugula. Sadly the kitchen had some inconsistencies with their grilling skills as the beef and bison burgers were all pretty dry and leaning towards well-done. Not my favorite when you are craving a juicy, drip down your hand kind of burger. Tavern on the square does offer more diverse menu selections through their starters. Options range from pork belly sliders, baked brie with a huckleberry jam, lobster mac n cheese and the crowd pleasing chili con queso. The queso has a hint of heat with the addition of spicy chorizo and is served with doughy pretzels and also crispy tortilla chips. I feel like this could be the perfect location for an après-ski scene where skiiers could congregate for a frosty cold beer and a few shared snacks. When it comes to amicable, low-key and budget conscious fare, tavern on the square is a great option if you are coming in from a day on the mountain or looking for a understated evening out. The menu offers conventional options that are sure to please the masses and great noshes for sharing. Hopefully the kitchen can get their cook-times in order to better the consistency of their food. Though, I don't think diners will mind much as they are just looking for a causal meal without the pretentiousness many vail restaurants have.

I was in Vail for a conference and one evening, about 7 pm, decided to strike out for something to eat. I saw a bunch of shops and restaurants - all of which were closed. Many looked like they were under renovation. As I made my way along the outdoor shopping area, I quickly became aware I was just about the only person in sight. It was like a ghost town. Then I spotted the Tavern on the Square restaurant and noticed it's doors were open and there was some people movement inside. I went in and sat down, having the entire place to myself. Service was friendly enough but seemed almost like it was off-duty with the rest of the town. I ordered the Southwest Chopped Salad and it was ok (see photo). The looks of the place both inside and out are nice enough. I'm not sure why it was such a dead season as far as tourists. Maybe lack of snow? It was a warm April. At any rate, I went back the second night with coworkers and ordered a sandwich and asked to substitute cowboy baked beans instead of fries. The server, who was absent for most of our two-hour visit, said it would be a $3 extra charge. Really? Just for substituting beans for fries? The beans were good. But I can't really recommend the place. Use only as a last resort. That's what I did.

Wife, daughter and I had dinner here with less than happy outcome. Wife had salmon which was the best of the 3 entrees (worth 3.5 stars). Daughter had spaghetti that was just OK; think Denny's. I had chicken and waffles which was the worst meal I have ever had at any restaurant. Two frozen, breaded chicken cutlets were cooked until they were dead and served with brow-gray waffles like nothing I had ever seen. As a bonus, dish was topped with some sort of brown bean sauce that looked like it was pre-eaten and regurgitated for this dish. Do not order this! At $22.00, it was overpriced by $21.85. Buzzards would refuse to eat this mess. Please take this item off your menu.

Nice little tavern. Went here for dinner. Unfortunately the dining area was closed for a private party so we sat by the bar. Food was really good. Had the short ribs and the meat was very flavorful and tender. Also had the goat cheese cheesecake for dessert-delish! Service was fine, maybe it was lacking a bit since we were in the bar area. Food spoke for itself though.

Dropped in for a late breakfast and very much enjoyed the Chorizo Ranchero. My wife had the stack of pancakes served with genuine Vermont maple syrup cooked to perfection. The Chorizo Ranchero, styled after the classic Huevos Rancheros, is served with perfectly cooked black beans, a kick ass salsa and delightful mash all served in perfect proportion. The seating is comfortable atmosphere delightful and views through the large windows of skiers walking by on the way to Lionshead gondola. The menu is varied and interesting and for Vail reasonably priced. I was tempted to get the eggs Benedict which is one of my all-time favorite breakfast dishes but was more in the mood for salsa and some heat. This place is worth going out of your way for. The background music is soft and interesting. Several local publications of interest are available while you wait for your breakfast to be served.I rarely give five stars but this one is 4 plus.

The service has always been great here. It is also close to the slopes which is nice. The food has always been outstanding, but there is one thing that I always go back for and that is their Bacon Bloody Mary. Imagine Candied Bacon in a peppery yummy Bloody Mary. Simply delicious!

This bar/restaurant is in a prime location. Right in the center of town on the creek with beautiful pines all around. The view alone is worth the visit. I don't think the edibles were outstanding but the cocktails & service were done nicely. There are tons of television screens inside and around the bar- great place to catch a game. Most places in Vail are budget busters but this wasn't terribly priced. Planning my trip back to Vail and this place is high on my list for après-ski drink.

Popped in for a quick salad. Sat at bar and service fine. Ordered Cobb salad and when it arrived it had no dressing. The manager happened to be in front of me and he said it was on there. I said, no it was dry. He said again a bit more curt that it was dressed. Again I said no. I then pushed around the veggies and said no its not dressed. He then asked, so there's no dressing? I just wanted to say that I'd told you 3 times! He finally trotted off and got some. Also, if you get the Cobb salad, tell them to go light on the Feta. I bet there was almost a cup of Feta on the salad. Now I like cheese like any one else, but it was like I was eating a Feta ball. I ended scraping off abt 1/2 cup to the side. And the turkey was DRY DRY DRY. Go to Bart & Yeddies.

Looking at the reviews, it seems that people have had largely problems with the dinner. I'll add that the Tavern's breakfast is all you can eat, including (regular) coffee and juices for $19.99. The omelet station was excellent, as it included a variety of cheeses, sausages, and fresh veggies. Lots of fresh fruits were available, including mixed berries. The pastries were fresh, and of good variety. Other than the breakfast potatoes being sub-par, clearly they had been there too long, I was impressed. I was staying at the Arrabelle (same building), and so this was a perfectly convenient option for me. Whereas I stayed away from the Tavern for dinner (why have dinner there when you can go to Kelly Liken or Leonora for about the same price?), I loved the Tavern's for breakfast. Give it a shot.

Horrible. We are here in 2013 and didn't like it but returned in 2015 and it was awful. The food is unapologetically terrible. My son ordered a hot dog and it came out completely cold - not once but twice. The third hot dog was served by a manager and literally looked like it spent 10 minutes in a microwave. Completely overdone. Nobody would ever eat something that looks like this and it was outrageous to me that the manager would serve it. Outside of the kiddie food, the rest was not good but not terrible. The bacon on the wedge salad was not fully cooked. Do not waste your $ or time here

Another place with the perfect location right at the bottom of Eagle Bahn Gondola, so that is wonderful The food was decent. We tried the bison quesadilla and it was competently made as well as a sald which was fine as well. It is a huge place and it wasn't crowded during summer lunch, so it was some work to flag down the waittress, but definitely a good stop that was reasonably priced.

Great place to stop for an afternoon drink or rest after a long run!!! They have the best bacon bloody Mary's!!! A must try! Their chili is pretty good too! Service has been either great or horrible... We stopped in here at least once a day during our 5 day ski trip.

TERRIBLE SERVICE. From the hostesses, our server, Sarah, and the manager, there were service skills left to be desired. We dined with the Tavern for apps and drinks after a day of skiiing. Three guests chose to leave and my friend and I decided to stay for one more cocktail. Within ten minutes of receiving my margarita, two hostesses individually approached our table informing us they had reservations waiting and needed to take the table from us. When we informed the manager that we had been told to leave our table (bar was full, the only offer made was to ad us to a waitlist) by TWO hostesses and that our server did not bring change for a cash bill, he kindly had the chef send out a cheese plate (although it had to be brought out twice as the expediter had not been told this was complements of the chef and we informed the runner that we did not order the cheese plate). He also asked our server to bring us another round of drinks. The margaritas came out unbearable. The worst I had ever had, a bright yellow color indicative of sweet and sour with no taste of the high end tequila on the menu. When our server returned with my change, she tossed it onto the table, folded, not in a book, and a dollar short. The manager did not check back in with us nor did Sarah. Overall, an incredibly disappointing service experience.

We had dinner here last night with a party of four, and overall everyone was pleased. There aren't that many people in Vail this time of year so there were only a few other people in the restaurant and they said their menu was smaller because of it being the off season. My husband had been wanting to try the lobster mac and cheese we read about on Yelp. They still had a great selection to choose from. The prices were better than many places in the area, but my burger was $15 and that seemed steep to me. Our friends started with the elk quesadillas and they thought they were perfect. My friend had the spinach salad with almonds and oranges and she said it was "literally" the best salad she has ever had. High compliment! Our other friend had the buffalo burger and thought it was delicious. I had the angus burger on a pretzel roll and I personally didn't like it- it had a smoky taste that just didn't suit my taste. It came with fries and they were crisp and medium thickness. I was disappointed but the story will change soon... My husband had the gnocci. He said he's had better but he liked the texture and said the sauce was super delicious. The service was good and my friend appreciated the football game being shown on the big TV's. OK- here's the good news. Since I was disappointed in my main meal I decided to go for dessert. They have a Guinness Brownie S'mores dessert that is AMAZING. Seriously maybe the best brownie dessert I have ever had at a restaurant (and I do consider myself somewhat of an expert on this topic)- WOW. The brownie itself was delicious, with a mild Guinness taste that was not overpowering at all. It was warm and moist and so good. It had a graham cracker crust type thing on it, was topped with vanilla ice cream with some more graham cracker crumbs, drizzled with chocolate sauce and then surrounded by a ton of mini marshmallows that were a little toasted. I could not believe how amazing it was. Seriously- you have to try it. It was $9.00 but I guarantee you it's worth it. I wonder if I can convince our group to go back again for dessert.... :)

Here on a Friday night at 6:30 PM. Beautiful patio area with a view of the Eagle Bahn gondola! Really friendly service and not too crowded. Had Laura as a server and she was super fun & friendly! You can tell she likes what she does. You absolutely must try the Tavern garlic fries. They come with three amazing sauces, one including a mayo - curry flavor. Really enjoyable and relaxing this time of evening.

Horrible management good server. After purposely getting to the tavern early to get a good seat to watch a college bowl game we were asked to leave because they had a reservation. Keep in mind we were ate dinner, deserts and buying drinks. We asked to speak to the manager and a boy named 'tony' I believe came by and couldn't have been more of a jerk to us. After this experience my family and I plan to never to visit this place ever again. The server we had 'reed' was great for how busy he was. Again this was all on the management. I hope who ever reads this review doesn't have to deal with the management because they were horrible.

Average food. We had breakfast there 4/6 days only because it was convenient and there were 6 in our group. Breakfast cost $9-$15 per person. Service was slow. Don't get the Corned Beef Hash (horrible vinegar taste).

In Vail, where food is expensive and service tends to be lax, this place is a mainstay for great food at good (Vail) prices and a terrific atmosphere. My lunch staples are the salads, the club (which doesn't look like the typical triple decker club sandwich but is ten times better), and the brunch buffet which, for $20 is a steal given the quality of the food, staff, and atmosphere. Of course, when I'm doing the brunch buffet I'd definitely advise going to town and truly making it both a breakfast + lunch, but if you love breakfast foods it's a great deal. And they have free Arabelle Wifi. Well done.

After waiting 25 minutes for a table (Told it would be 10-15 min, but probably less), we waited 10 minutes at our table, and finally had to ask for a server. The unenthusiastic server came over and apologized for the wait. Robbie got the buffet which he enjoyed. My husband and I both ordered the eggs Benedict, which was pretty good. We had to request silverware, and I never got a spoon to Stir my burnt coffee. The bus staff was the best of the staff, our water was always full and plates cleared quickly. We won't be back.

I am new to the Vail experience and I find myself having trouble, in general, making distinctions from all of the casual dining options that surround you. The Tavern's presence seems to point toward a higher end than the casual experience it delivers - which could be good or bad depending on the mood you are in. The food (for dinner) is good but it just seems to be about the same as everywhere else in Vail. Arrabelle owners get a discount -- so if you are here via Exclusive Resorts do not forget to ask.

Their black truffle tavern burger was one of the best burgers i've ever had! I had it with blue cheese and it was so mindblowing -- maybe because i just spent the last few hours in the snow, IDK. I came back the next morning for a few beers with eggs and breakfast potatoes. There's another place at Lionhead village that has burgers and drinks and is a lot more casual and crowded, we couldn't find seats there.

If you're dairy free, watch out. The menu doesn't list many hidden dairy ingredients and things that are safe everywhere else (like the shrimp lettuce wraps and duck spring rolls) are soaked on buttermilk or have cheese. Considering the clientele, you'd expect the food to have more of a health conscious slant, so why put cheese in the meatballs? The waitress was uneducated about what dairy was, so if something had mayo she said it contained dairy. Eggs aren't dairy!

This has become my favorite après ski place for two reasons. 1.) They have a great local beer menu unlike most Vail places that only really have the big names. 2.) You can usually find a seat or a table because it's a big space. Also a good menu that is a nice mixture between bar food and good new American snacks. If you're tired of the (albeit pretty good) junk food/bar food that the other après places have to offer, this expanded menu will provide a refreshing reprise.

Came here (for breakfast) since little diner was closed on Christmas Day. Didn't expect much due to it being a substitution and the fact that it was right next to the lift and a view of skating ring right in front. Surprisingly, food was above our expectation . Ordered Egg Benedict and corned beef hash instead of breakfast buffet. Left for snowboarding satisfied.

Do not eat here. Had lunch one afternoon, fish tacos. They were good, not spectacular, not bad either. Had reservation for 10 people on Valentine's evening. When the restaurant called to confirm, we were told if we were even 1 minute late, our table would be given away. We arrived on time and had to wait on the bar. Service was mediocre (guess he was banking on his mandatory 18% due to party size) and only asked half the table about appetizers. Argued back when my friends called him out on this later, he responded "i was standing here, you should have said something. Steak was HORRIBLE!! Did not eat but about a 1/4 of it. We told the waiter that everyone's steak was overcooked and the manager was notified. The manager only approached the one person who sent theirs back. The rest of us didnt bother sending it back and were never offered a replacement. Three (not so great) desserts were sent as "compensation" for the bad steaks. Most expensive potatoes I have ever eaten. At least they were good. Don't waste your money here especially since there are so many other fantastic restaurants in Vail that are worth the money!

The one appeal of this place is the beautiful view owing to the restaurant's proximity to the mountain. Unfortunately, this is the best aspect of Tavern on the Square. I've been here twice, and my most recent visit will be my last. The worst part of the experience is the service. Overall, Vail can deliver some fairly poor customer service - this is characteristic of tourist spots, but Tavern is the WORST. The hostesses are downright rude, not to mention poorly trained. You're lucky to be greeted when you arrive, much less seated in a timely manner. I was appalled by how rude our hostess was on the most recent visit. Bewilderingly dismissive. Her attitude alone is enough to make me avoid this place indefinitely. If the poor service doesn't sour your experience, be prepared for long wait times for over-priced, mediocre food. I ordered the Caesar salad, which came with aged and wilted lettuce, stale croutons, and (yes!) a few pieces of human hair. The icing on the cake was that my beer glass had lipstick on it. I get that this happens, but it's still pretty gross. An overall rotten experience. Plenty of great restaurants in Vail. Avoid this one.

Stopped in today for lunch to enjoy the view of the skiers. We were sitting at the end of the bar near hostess stand. Some douchebag with money walked in and was talking Spanish with one of the hostesses and throwing money around. Whatever. The kicker is that the hostess grabbed the menu that was directly in front of me on the bar to show him. I immediately snatched it back and gave her the major evil eyeball. I mean seriously WTF!! Both immature rude ass kids for a place that serves a $60 steak!!!! We ordered prime rib sandwiches and it had no flavor. We had to put snp on them. You shouldn't have to do that. We won't be back. Manager needs to read this and make major adjustments

This was my first time in Vail so being a tourist I suppose you should take my post with a grain of salt. The restaurant was very nice and the view was incredible. Their drink selection isn't shabby but the waitress not only brought me the wrong drink which I ended up accepting. Then she forgot bring out my orange which I had requested when she had given me the incorrect drink. Not a huge deal/ The food is a bit pricey but with a view like Tavern on the Square it can definitely be expected. The calamari was alright, large thick slices instead of baby calamari, the breading wasn't season very well, the sauce was good, but the calamari was just the rings. Besides that the chili's temperature was only warm instead of hot. I'm obviously not expecting scalding hot chili but hot enough to keep it's temperature in the cold weather. The flavor was mediocre to be honest, I was expecting a bit more. This place also preauthorized my credit card twice, leaving me with three charges, and when I called to ask a manager about this I had to call back three times to get a straight answer after being promised a call back twice. About 6 hours past total and no response back, finally the third time I called the managers had everything figured out but for whatever reason had yet to call me back. Regardless of how pessimistic my post may sound the entire experience wasn't terrible, but I probably wouldn't go back. I can see how others may like Tavern on the Square and perhaps I didn't order their better dishes and came on an off day. I wouldn't say to avoid this place but don't expect this to be the end all be all. In my opinion you may the price premium for it's view and location, so if that's what you're looking for Tavern on the Square is the place for you.

We stopped in here for lunch and highly recomend this place. We sat outside on the outdoor patio which has amazing view of the Mountain and Ski Gondola. The service was excellent and we had shrimp lettuce wraps which were very tasty as an appetizer. Its inside the Arabelle hotel which is worth a visit too beautiful hotel with dark rich woods and great ambience.

We have always been disappointed with the breakfast in Vail, until we ate here. Great service, kid friendly and a ton of excellent food for the price. They even have real maple syrup. A class act. I would go back for breakfast in a heart beat.

My family and I ate here for breakfast twice during our recent ski trip to Vail. We really liked this place. I wasn't sure whether to go with 3 or 4 stars. I would lean more toward 4 stars than 3, so maybe 3.5 stars. If you're staying in Lionshead Village and are looking for a good breakfast place where you don't have to wait for a table, try this place. They have a really good breakfast buffet for like $19.95 as well as a regular menu. The first time, we all had the buffet. They have a good selection of fruit, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, eggs, french toast, omelet station, pastries, etc. The buffet price also includes a juice. The second day, half of us went with ordering off of the menu to control our portion sizes. I went with the whole wheat granola pancakes, which were amazing. Really good and probably still more food that I should have eaten. My wife had the waffle, which she really enjoyed, and my sister had the oatmeal. The oatmeal didn't seem that good though. It was really loose and runny whereas the oatmeal at the buffet was much thicker. So, she didn't really enjoy hers that much. Also, our basic menu items took quite a long time to come out. The other people in our party had already made two trips to the buffet before our food arrived. Overall, a good place. I can't speak for the lunch or dinner items although the menu looked good. If we come back to Lionshead Village in the future, we would definitely come back here for breakfast at least.

Terrible customer service. I came here with my family for dinner one night and our waitress was beyond rude, the manager came over and he was just as bad. I don't think condescending is the correct tone to have in food service and that is all I experienced here.

Super delicious bacon infused vodka bloody mary with a strip of bacon and blue cheese stuffed olive garnish. WOW! The food is horrible. Tried the Elk Lettuce Wrap and found the meat to be way overcooked, chewy and bland. Stick with the drinks.

Over priced average food. The gumbo was not very good. The service was terrible. We waited over 30 minutes for someone to take our order. I finally got up and chased down our waiter, only to have them give some feeble excuse that they thought we were only there to drink. I give this restaurant a D.

This had a great atmosphere, good drink selection, and OK food. I ordered the curry chicken pot pie which was OK but a bit small and lacked any actual curry flavor. A friend got the prime rib special, which ended up being extremely rare, and another friend got the french onion soup, which was excellent. The couple next to our table got the lobster mac and cheese and elk quesadilla and both looked great. Overall, this is a great place to grab a few drinks and have good ski bar-type food, but don't expect anything amazing food wise. The prices are also pretty cheap by vail standards and we loved our waitress.

Tavern on Square was suggested to my group of girlfriends as a place to watch football the weekend of the NFL playoffs. We called ahead and made a reservation for a table in the bar for 11 with a view of the TV for both games that day. Our table was perfect! We were right in front of the tv at a long bar height table. The food was all fantastic as was the service. We ordered a smattering of the appetizers off the menu and shared. Throughout the night, people just ordered entrees when they were ready. The wait staff was completely accomodating considering our unorthodox ordering style. Everything we ate was fantastic- the buffalo wings were great, the tavern fries were awesome, we couldn't complain about anything. The prime rib sandwich was tasty and the elk dip sandwich was good as well. Until.... the manager came over midway through and told us that he needed us to move. The hostess sat us at the wrong table and he had reserved this table two weeks earlier for another customer. He offered to buy us a drink, but it was still rediculous. We sat there for two football games with 11 people drinking and eating and spending a rediculous amount of money. The worst part was, he asked us to move because he reserved the table for a client that is a big Broncos fan... the part that ended up at the table were Patriots fans... so to add insult to injury they weren't entirely honest about the whole thing.

We have been coming to this place for the past 3 yrs. 3yrs ago - not so good. But steady improvement has been evident and now I am glad that we have a go-to place in Lionshead. It is consistently excellent, so now I give them high marks across the board. The menu is extensive. Usually, when you see a menu that ranges from grilled tuna to quesadillas to steaks, they do not execute across the spectrum. But the food at Tavern is great across the board now. I usually favor the buffalo burger (char-grilled to perfection) and delicious. My wife bounces around from salads to fish and my son is pretty consistent with the chicken fingers (which I try to help him out with) or the mac 'n cheese. But it is all good. We are frequently there with other friends or family and everyone enjoys it. As a result, we have have probably tried most of the dishes collectively, and it is all well done. Plus the service now excels (where is was previously pretty random). Finally, if you like tequila, they have a few nice ones, and if you are even smarter and like mezcal, they have Ilega Anejo (at the best price you will find), which cannot be topped! All in all, you will enjoy the Tavern on the Square. They have gone from being a geopraphical necessity to a destination.

Hoo boy, very bad experience. Our family went up for the 2011 4th of July weekend and went to this spot on Saturday night. We should have known things were bad when we walked in. There was nobody to seat us and the wait staff were looking a little beat up. We were seated and attended to by a very meek server who, in retrospect, was likely a little coy from getting beat up all evening. After our appetizers, we had to ask another server to flag ours down. We probably waited 20 minutes or so. He showed and we put in our orders. An hour and no entrees later, I asked him to cancel our entrees and to bring us the bill. It's worth noting that 3 of the 4 entrees were salads. He did so, but left an item on. We walked inside to have him correct the issue. During this time the manager came in. He asked if we were the ones who cancelled our order, we said yes. He asked what the problem was. I told him about the wait and he was pretty negative and unprofessional. Really horrible experience with very little service provided. We could have lived with an extended wait if we had seen more interaction from the staff, but we felt like we were on an island. The place had completely fallen apart.

We did not plan to stop here.. Our Last night and just walked in! So wish we would of discovered this our first night here! Friendly service, great menu selection, reasonable prices for Vail!!! Right in lionshead by ice skate rink which the kids enjoyed, while we enjoyed our last beverage!!! All the food was delish!!

Had lunch here during Xmas week and would definitely return. Prices are in line with the location, so it's not cheap but the food is good enough that you don't feel ripped off. Extensive menu, quick but attentive service. It was busy at lunch time but we never felt rushed or ignored. Noisy, bustling atmosphere, so bring the kids.

We had a g r e a t experience at this place. We had walked all day and were tired and hungry. We landed here based on timing and hunger and reading the menu outside. It was around 5 PM and the place wasn't hoppin' yet with the bar crowd. We could sit wherever we wanted and chose a large booth near a window. The high point -- and we are still raving about it days later -- was the drink we selected. My husband and I both decided to try the lemon drop martini with just a "splash" of ginger beer. We were wary of the last part, but the waitress told us we wouldn't be sorry so we tried it. BEST lemon drop EVER! We each had two and wanted more, but decided we needed to find our way back to our hotel without crawling, so after two we opted to eat. My husband had a cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and scarfed it up. I had a delicious bowl of some kind of gumbo and a side of the herb seasoned fries. Warning.. their "side" of fries is humongo! My food was delicious also. Then we opted for a dessert involving the word "s'more". (By then we were feeling our lemon drops, so I don't recall exactly what it was, but it was yummy.) In summary, we had a delightful experience here between the superb drinks, delicious food and helpful and friendly waitress. We will definitely be going back!

I don't normally write scathing reviews but this place had some seriously bad food. Three of us came after skiing because we had walked by the night before and it has a very nice atmosphere, live music and overall pretty busy. We wandered in and ordered a few drinks. Fun. We decided to meet up there the next day for some dinner. Mistake. Two of us ordered the French dip and I we also shared a Caesar salad. The best way to describe the flavor is to say that it didn't have any. No salt, no pepper no nothing. The horseradish sauce was a joke. It tasted like it was 90% mayonnaise. Salad was boring and bland as well. I mentioned this to the table next to me and they said they were disappointed as well even thought it looked wonderful... oh well. Overall, music and atmosphere is 4 stars. The specialty drinks we tried were all great. Service was fine and the food is expensive and TERRIBLE. I just hope I stop at least one person from making the same mistake of eating dinner here.. Drinks yes. Dinner NO. =]

Wow! Are you serious? Seated by outside hostess for lunch with my family including my 17 mo old baby. Manager (Brad) came over and said that this was not our table and we had to be seated by a hostess. When we explained that we actually were seated by a hostess. He said sorry, she's not a hostess. We awkwardly stood up and walked away. I followed Brad back inside and explained my displeasure with the circumstance and awful service. All he offered up was a "sorry". We walked away in disbelief of being treated so badly.

Dinner is pretty good but have you ever heard of a place with a brunch menu serving breakfast until 11:00 on a Sunday?? What the heck. Easily the most disappointing breakfast in Vail.

Good food and very friendly staff right there at the base of the Eagle Bahn gondola. You can get a fine dinner entree here for under $20, making it a wonderful alternative to Vail's often overpriced restaurants. In the summer, the patio is a most enjoyable venue for prime people watching. I'm quite glad to have the TOTS in Lionshead and will be back.

My friend and I stopped in for a bite to eat after a long day on the slopes. It was crowded, as it was a holiday weekend, and my friend and I were in need of a snack and a drink before making the hour drive to Glenwood Springs. Our waitress, looking bored and tired, made it clear with her tone of voice that she wasn't happy with our order of two alcoholic beverages and a lemonade. No matter. We asked for menus anyway. After consuming our drinks, we placed an order for the Tavern Fries (waffle fries, bacon, bleu cheese) once our waitress had finally decided to make her rounds about 45 minutes later. After another 20-30 minutes, our fries came out. They weren't bad by any means; I actually liked the addition of bleu cheese on fries, but they certainly weren't worth the whopping $13 price tag. While I understand the restaurant was crowded, I found the hospitality unacceptable, not to mention the $50 bill for two beers, a lemonade, and an order of fries. Next time I will either bring my own food or dine elsewhere. This place is NOT worth it.

Second time to visit. Probably last. Had nightly special shepards Pike. Not close to what Shepards Pie is, but fir the mashed potatoes and even those were screwed up...red skinned with garlic. Anyway, didn't taste good and got sick. Wedge and ceasar salads sub par. Lobster mac and cheese just tastes like bacon. Only burger passable. Very nice room with sports on tvs. Tons of small kids.

Tavern was a great apres bar without the crowds. The music was awesome. Gotta try the buffalo sliders - delicious! The service was ok - seemed like a new server and lots of training seemed to be going on, however, I will definately be going back.

Tavern on the Square has alot going for it; great location, creative menu, excellent lighting, which I would describe as "warm glow," and global clinentel. If I didn't prefer drinking my dessert in Colorado micro brewery form, I would have tried one of the many whimsical dessert selections such as Apple dumplings or Frosted Orange Milkshakes, definitely next time. I sat at the south-most bar to enjoy some pints and a selection of the menu my stomach size would allow. I would have assumed more assertiveness with my service, being one of the only people sitting at the bar. I'm easily observable sitting at a bar, and with over 10 years of serving and bartending experince, know that those sitting at the bar can also easily observe the bartenders. I have a simple order to start with a pint and a side salad, but after 1/2 hour, was asked if I was " ready to order." I did have to remind them I had ordered and what that order was, only to receive it with the wrong dressing, and only after I was finished, was not asked how everything was, but if I had gotten my salad in the first place. If people are sitting at the bar, give them great service because we are easy to serve, are watching you, and can give and receive great stories that serving large parties doesn't provide. With high standards held of the diner, high standards of the service should coenside. I later decided to try the tortilla soup which was okay at best. I did not taste any depth to the seasoning and this soup could easily be passed as can soup with tortilla chips and avocado. I've had better, better food and service. I had no expectations of the place, but left a little dissatisfied.

Long story short my wife and I live in Denver and had some friends visiting Vail so we met them for Dinner at Tavern on the Square. All 4 of us got food poisoning, each with different severity. My wife and I ended up at the Urgent care a day later violently ill. Our friends husband couldn't even make it out for breakfast the next day because he was so sick and she got sick that evening. You can call it what you want but the only thing we all had in common was eating at Tavern on the Square. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs.

We rode into Lionshead to grab a beer and ended up at the Tavern. Ben the bartender was super friendly and really made us feel welcome. We didn't really plan to but we ended up coming back in every day of our vacay. The lobster/bacon mac n cheese is super yum and the vibe is nice but chill. Definitely recommend.

In the heart of Lionshead, the atmosphere was great. We ate lunch outside, in the shade we requested. My husband said the fish tacos were the best he's ever had. Even I liked them, and I am NOT a fish taco fan. The salsa served with them had great flavor and a good kick. My wedge salad was mediocre at best. The green goddess dressing tasted like it came from a jar, and the kitchen didn't remove the limp, browned, outer leaves from the head of lettuce. The waitstaff was polite and fairly attentive, and we had fun watching two brides getting ready to ascend the mountain for their respective weddings.

Completely disappointing way to end our ski weekend. My parents, husband and I went in for dinner on a Friday night and were expecting to have to wait (not having made a reservation). We put our name in and were told by the hostess that we'd have to wait 30 minutes. So we grabbed a stool at the bar and got a drink. There were about 6-7 tables that were empty that we were told were for reservations but say empty for the entirety of our wait. We waited for 70 minutes (more than double what we were told) and were seated at a high top table in the bar, after having seen people that came in right before and after us get seated and served their dinners. The hostess apologized a few times but it was clear we had been forgotten about. We ordered drinks and food within 10 minutes of being seated, but were not served for over an hour after ordering. The waitress told us that the chefs were busy for the last 30 min of waiting for our food and told us our food was next while we continued to watch all of the tables around us get their dinners (needless to say, all of those tables were seated and ordered after us). Our food was tasty, although, I wouldn't get the falafel burger again, however this place left a bad taste in our mouths. No apologies about bad service and lack of attention from hostess and waitress. This place was horribly run and, maybe we received the perfect storm of horrible service and attention, but we will not be going back.

I enjoy hitting the Tavern when we visit Vail, mostly because the surrounding Lions Head village is a lot of fun to hang out in. The Tavern has a great outdoor seating area right at the base of the slope which has fantastic views. Highly recommend the French Dip and the French Onion soup (not sure why my preferences run in the European labels specifically for this restaurant...). One downside is that the prices are on the high end, but that is not uncommon for the area in general.

Sunday morning.... Pretty poor for Vail. Staying at the Arrabelle with exception service and we went to the Tavern on the Square at the base of Eagle Bahn Gondala.. Service is slow... Food comes after 30 minutes and cold, no silverware, napkins or condiments. I had to ask 3 different servers in 3 separate occasions before everything showed up for our very cold breakfast.. I am in the hospitality business and I would terminate staff if they do not have their eye on the customer experience... Thank you for the exception experience! NOT!

Great, reasonably-priced lunch and dinner in Vail. With patio seating overlooking the Creek, this is a perfect spot to capture a taste of Vail without overspending. Thai spring rolls were delicious, fully loaded sandwich is highly recommended. Ask for outdoor seating - worth the wait!

I was greatly Disappointed with the dinner we had during Oktoberfest of all times. Ordered the Steak and got this grey burnt thing. It was ordered medium and got well done....Sent it back, next one was blue....Hey Head chef, cooking a Stone cold Steak is not a good idea...30 seconds then flip basting with a garlic butter and thyme...NOT ROCKET SCIENCE...I will NOT be returning...

Beautiful scenery. For an appetizer, Tuna poke was good, waffle fries were an experience with all the toppings. The buffalo burger was very fresh and not too gamey, my daughter put BBQ sauce on it which was amazing. I had kale and quinoa salad, super fresh. Not good to eat tho if are not into healthy food. Overall a very nice lunch and Kirsten was a great waitress. She did a great job explaining the food, so good that she almost made it sound better than it was! She was also very sweet and made my younger daughter an orange/pineapple virgin drink with grenadine off the menu that she liked. Over all a great place to eat with the mountain in the background!

Stopped here for breakfast while visiting Vail for the day. Should have kept looking! Breakfast for 8 and the only rave was the bacon bloody mary! Across the board the biggest complaint was tasteless. Venison sausage and chicken apple sausage were terribly bland. I could go on, but why bother.

Went here for the breakfast buffet. $24 for a buffet that's comparable to a free continental breakfast at a Marriott. The only thing that was really great about it was the omelet station. I probably won't go back, but it's nice that it's located in the heart of Lionshead Village, directly across the ice rink. I had to pay extra for espresso.

Went tonight, July 2nd, and had a poor experience. We waited 2 hours for our entrees, a table that came after us was served before us, and the restaurant was not full at all. When we asked the waitress what was going on, she said she would check on our food. After an hour and 50 minutes It then arrived lukewarm. There were 8 of us and we all had only room temp food. This was poor service on the waitresses part as the food must have been "sitting"for a while. Will go elsewhere next time.

Beautiful view from the patio, however this was a very disappointing experience. Breakfast was not good. Sent back the first entree - it was inedible. The second wasn't much better. Won't be back. I'm happy to pay a premium for a beautiful setting like this restaurant however they did not get the basics right.

One of the worst restaurants I have been to. The service was horrible, the food came out slowly, which they blamed on a slammed kitchen. Never make excuses! And, the food came out cold. How is this possible when it took do long to bring the food out? For a Rock Resort they should feel ashamed. We should have waited for a table for the other restaurant where we originally wanted to dine. Don't eat there.

hostess acted like she was doing us a huge favor by sitting us, though there were easily 10 tables open ( and note most never filled during our lunch. Only food item we tried was the fish tacos, no flavor at all. my canned beer was good, wife's cocktail was medicore.

Solid breakfast. We have been here several times on our Vail visits for breakfast/brunch. Great view of the Eagle Bahn Gondola and the associated people watching. Love the Smoked Salmon plate, the Corned Beef Hash, the Alpine Skillet and their Chicken Apple Sausage. Make sure to sit outside in the summer...the dining room is as generic as I've seen in Vail and very blah. Service can be great to average.

This proved to be a lovely spot for a hot drink break on our day out on the slopes. Located at the base of the Lionshead lift area, the location is literally steps from taking off your skis It's part of the Arrabelle at Vail Square resort, which would cost $2804 for a double room tonight. The restaurant is appropriately plush but the hot chocolate was reasonably priced at $5, about the same as at the on mountain restaurants We caught them about 3 minutes before closing down their breakfast service but they were still very friendly and accommodating. Our server, even gave us some free pastries from the breakfast service, which would otherwise have gone to waste Recommended for a coffee stop

My wife ordered sweet potato fries with a chicken sandwich and I ordered regular fries with a Bison burger. While the sandwiches were warm, both fries were cold. We sent them back and didn't get them again until our meals were almost done. The regular fries were still cold. By that time we were ready to leave. We each had 2 alcoholic beverages and the bill was $95.00. At no time were we offered any concession. A gentleman next to us saw the entire transaction and asked if they offered a free drink or anything. We told him no and he said that he was planning to bring a group to the restaurant and was going to find another place now. I guess that is our only solace along with this review.

Last night we went to the Tavern On The Square for a casual dinner after a long drive. There were 4 people including myself. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Burger (which is way overrated by all the staff that works there). It was just mediocre. Everybody else complained that their food was either okay or not very good. My parents ordered a some glasses of wine, but we never intended to spend a lot of money. The bill ended up costing more than a couple hundred dollars. Wouldn't go back.

Excellent breakfast in Vail! Great casual ambiance, direct views of the Eagle Bahn gondola, attentive staff. They open at 7 am. The custom omelette hit the spot. Awesome roasted finger potatoes, super-flaky buttery croissants with homemade jam, mexican casserole, bacon and fresh fruit all come together for a hearty breakfast before skiing. Coffee was also excellent. It's not as good as the best breakfast buffet I had in the mountains (Fairmont Banff) but this would do. Only downside is price - $32 per person (includes tax + 15% tip). Come hungry.

I just wrapped up a month long stay at Vail. Since we were based in Lionshead and our son had ski school from the base there, we put in no less than 20 visits to the Tavern on the Square in March. As part of Vail ' s foray into the Luxury Hotel business under its Rock Resorts brand, this operation is within the Arabelle Hotel. Vail charges Ritz Carlton type prices and delivers Motel 6 Quality here. The venue and surrounding buildings are beautiful, but the service and food simply don't match. Given the extent of our stay we encountered many of the staff members on numerous occasions. Save for a few bartenders, there was simply no recall of our regular attendance, which made the ineptitude of the staff almost comical, except for the prices, it's simply pathetic. By the end of our trip my knowledge of the menu trumped most of the servers. This lead to favorite ritual of ordering Breckenridge Bourbon, only to be told they did not have it. To which I would respond by reciting a drink recipe from the drink menu which listed the spirit. The looks from the servers and my companions were priceless. Our breakfast visits were the true low point. Despite a seeming abundance of waitstaff, the service was painfully slow, hapless, and confused. Prompt seating followed by a 10 plus minute wait to be acknowledged by a server is the norm. We passed the time by wagering on which of our fellow diners would leave in frustration before we did. Even after ordering, the most basic breakfast items required 20 to 30 minutes before arriving. Again, for the money being charged it's just unacceptable. We experience d similar failings at lunch and dinner visits, leading to our overdue boycott of this place in our final week at the resort. Ultimately, Vail has proven to be an unfit manager of its own Luxury Brand, the company would do well to seek the Profesional management of a world class hotel franchise. Have a drink at the bar and avoid wasting your money.

The service was good. Nice waitress and the flavor of the food was good. But the toast was cold and they forgot the sausage on my wife's plate. That is unacceptable for this price point.

On the plus side, great patio for Jazz Fest. Food was average to good. French onion soup had little flavor. Mozzarella salad was very good. Other small plates included edamame and humus were ok. Full bar with good local beer on tap. Wine list is ok. We had Van Duzer Pinot for $95 that drank like a $11 grocery store bottle. In menu it was represented as '07 and they brought us '11. I noticed and server said that is all they had. Very average service. When we arrived restaurant was wide open and greeter insisted we wait five minutes to seat although several tables already sat. Probably waiting to see if anyone better showed up I guess. That was odd. Went back later in day due to proximity of Jazz stage and a little better experience. Maybe just caught Tavern on off day.

Wait staff was very friendly and it was not their fault. Food took an hour and fifteen minutes for our order. When my burger came it was cold and the cheese was congealed. It took 30 minutes for my replaced burger that was still luke warm. And to boot there was a hair in my food. Will never eat here again considering this burger cost $18. Do not eat here unless they change how they operate.

I have a very serious love-hate relationship with this place. I say "never again" and then I end up here almost everyday for après, so I suppose that says something. The Moscow Mules are served in copper mugs, the Tavern Fries are good (only order if you're very hungry), and the rest of the food is okay. I always felt bloated after eating here but that could have been because of over-indulgence/altitude sickness (which I'm prone to).

Relatively expensive brunch with interesting ideas but lacking execution. We stopped by on a Monday morning before heading off to the slopes as a party of 6, and we were seated fairly quickly as the place was basically empty at 8 AM. I split an order of the Colorado Mountain Breakfast and the Banana Nut French Toast. For the former, the hash was a bit too crispy, not enough flavor, and it was lacking in meat in general; the beer mustard was alright, but it's never a good sign when you need the sauce to save the dish. The banana nut french toast was an interesting idea in using banana bread as the french toast, but it didn't quite work well and was basically banana fosters on banana bread, which wasn't that tasty. The service was alright for that time of the morning, but the meal is just generally an expensive, not-great-tasting one. Not a place I'd want to return to.

Brunch here is overpriced and underwhelming! When we showed up around 10 AM yesterday, there was a sign in the window that said we could order a la carte until 11 AM. The hostess, however, informed us that the buffet was the only option and led us to a table. I ordered an omelet, which was fine, but the rest of the spread left a lot to be desired. There were some tasty pastries (the mini donuts and biscotti were excellent), but they were not replenished as people ate them. Similarly, there was almost no fruit - just empty spaces on the tray where the fruit used to be. The French toast and bacon were so-so, and one of the people in my group panned the hash. The server was very slow with our drinks, did not offer refills (we had to flag him down) or water, and he did not clear dirty plates when people went up to the buffet for seconds (we ended up with a stack of dirty dishes on the corner of our table). Adding insult to injury, the bill for three people was $85! Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

** We only ordered drinks ** That said, my drink -- a DELICIOUS Bloody Mary -- was very, very delicious. I don't do bacon and am not fond of most mixes, but they made me a phenomenally spicy and mm-mm-mm-y drink... I'm almost ready to drive back just from typing this. Yikes. My friends were all equally-satisfied with their concoctions; one actually ordered the bacon bloody and was thrilled. The prices are high, sure. You're in Vail, in case you missed that.

Awful service. I am in town for Shoulder/Arm Surgey, everyone in Vail has been awesome. The Marriott Hotel has been SO accommodating and recommended that we try eating at this place. I was fresh out of the hospital and was dying for some real non-hospital food.... We walked up and to our surprise there was a special taped to the menu. It had some three letter acronym that had no discernible meaning and in big letter the word LUNCH SPECIAL. It seemed okay so we walked in, told them there were two people to seat for the lunch special. They promptly sat us down and we told the server immediately we wanted the salad from the lunch special. She took our order and entered it in the computer. Then the manager came running over asking if we were part of some Youth Convention. I pointed to my arm in a cast and said that no I just had surgery and just wanted a good meal. He then told us that he would not allow us to order off the lunch special menu. The one that was prominently displayed outside of the restaurant. The server came back and said we could feel free to order the same items are much higher prices. Ummm how about no? If you have a special menu that is intended for special people then you make a sign stating "ABC XYC GUESTS WELCOME! ASK FOR SPECIAL MENU" and the provide it to them individually. You don't broadcast a "Lunch Special" on the menu outside your restaurant and then act all nasty when people naturally come in and want to order it. We just left the restaurant. Not going to patronize a business who can't grasp the very basics of service recovery. The order had already been placed. You honor the price and try and make it right. Not act in such a childish and unprofessional manner.

Food: had a large dinner salad that was a mish-mash of various ingredients that were just ok. Chicken breast was very dry. Nothing special. Service: friendly waiter but not very attentive. Took out drink order just after seating but didn't actually bring them until after our entrees had arrived. It wasn't very busy & it seemed like there were a bunch of employees hanging out

Had early lunch before skiing. Delicious burgers, grilled chicken sandwich, salads. Fries were yummy! Even my daughters kids meal hotdog was delicious. They could go easy on the bacon. It's on everything! Would have liked to try their breakfast and dinner. Menu looks great.

Had a nice meal with the family. I had pho and it was very good. The prices are reasonable, especially for Vail. The service was OK. Our server was nice enough and took good care of us.
