Nozawa won my heart as a favorite sushi spot because of it's staff. They are the friendliest people in Vail and remember your name everytime you go in. I always make it a point to sit at the sushi bar, and if you buy some Sake for yourself and a shot for the sushi chef everytime you'll know why. Trust me. The food is really good, but I stick with Sushi. This place can add up a tab quickly, but what sushi place doesn't? Also I know a bunch of you prissy better than the rest California people think Sushi should never be deep fried, but I'm from the South and ANYTHING can be deep fried. They have the best deep fried rolls I've ever had, hands down.

I would really love to give 4 1/2 stars! Everything was very good. Because we were here on off-season the sushi rolls and entrees were 50% off!!! I had a Kirin, Purple Haze sake, cucumber salad, crunch roll, avocado roll & for desert vanilla mochi. All wonderful. The other diners had salmon & tuna nigiri, two other specialty rolls, chicken pad thai and 2 glasses of chardonay. Our bill was under $80. SUPER AWESOME! I only marked a 1/2 a star off because of the decor and the lack of privacy (no booths, one big room). Also the wasabi was a little off. There wasn't enough heat to it. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you are in Vail!!!! YUM-O!

Wow, this is honestly some of THE worst sushi I've ever had in my life! Sushi is all about the rice, and Nozawa's rice is crumbly, dry and falling apart. The fish is dry and tasteless. Fail. The Panang curry is mediocre at best, but at least a little spicy. I came here because I was absolutely starving, so I just needed sustenance. Maybe it's because I'm half Asian, but I take places like this as a personal insult to my heritage. People that like this place must have absolutely no concept of what Japanese food really tastes like! Blah!

A solid meal made even better by a half-price deal. The California roll was nothing special, but the ingredients were fresh. The duck with orange sauce was good and full half duck. The eggplant with pork also very good and large portion. Considering prices in general in Vail, this restaurant is a real find even if it is in a Holiday Inn.

  • Anais M.

Quite expensive for very underwhelming food. The sushi roll I had was just ok and rather small for its price and my husband's paid thai wasn't good either. But they were fast. It's also hard to find, it's inside the holiday Inn but that's not obvious.

Sushi in the lobby of a Holiday Inn, you scoff? Fear not, dear traveler - venture within and you will be pleased. The Double Double, Spider Roll and Ichi Ban were all top notch. As good sushi as you'll find in CO, for my buck.

  • Lee C.

Great sushi and very good entrees. Nice happy hour from 4-6 where rolls are 20% off as well as beer and hot sake. This place is good AND consistent. Pricing is roughly equivalent to most sushi places.

This place is amazing! The sushi is delicious, wait staff is on cue, and the Saki oh so nice. Being from Alaska I've had my fair share of fresh fish and awesome sushi and this place can definitely compete. The preparation is beautiful and I did not leave there hungry. Highly recommended, I love finding gems like this.

Ordered the sunset and spider rolls as well as pad thai. The spider roll was okay, I have NEVER seen them cut so thinly - 1cm thick or less! The sunset roll was decent. The pad thai was the worst. Ordered not spicy, and there still was a little bit of chili in it. Very bland and did not have the traditional pad thai flavor at all. Ick. What makes it worse is that an adjacent table ordered pad thai normally (spicy) and it looked much better.

Great sushi and we just moved into the area from the west coast so we know good sushi!!!! Waitstaff was great, very friendly and accomidating. Food quality is matched well with the price. Definetly will be back!

My neighborhood. Can't believe took me this long to visit. Hands-down BEST service in Vail. Sweet Basil can learn from these guys. Jen and everyone that makes it happen every night ROCK. Sushi AMAZING. Super killer deals. My advice-GO NOW!!

We tried this place for lunch because of the good ratings and it was awful. We ate a few bites and then told the waitress we were done. The waitress didn't even ask if anything was wrong or how we liked our meal. Don't waste your time or money. We were very disapointed.

Pretty cool asian fusion restaurant. Nozawa serves Thai, chinese and they even have a sushi bar! Sushi is pretty good. I've had the pad thai, and the udon with shrimp tempura. Now the udon was good but it's not the average udon, I'm used to. This one in particular had a oyster sauce flavored broth. Included in the broth was zucchini and bell peppers. I'm guessing they add these vegetables not just for flavor but color. Aside from all that the service was the best part. My server Emily said thank you many times. The restaurant is clean, and in the front 50% sushi and entrees! Reason being to draw you in. Give it a try. The original printed menu is very pricey but keep in mind 50% off.

On our first night in Vail, we tried this sushi/thai restaurant base on the recommendation of our condo staff. The owner is chinese and the menu is limited with many Thai dishes We were mainly interested in the sushi. They were good but not spectacular. The various specialty rolls were satisfying. The four of us ate for $170 including 2 sakes.

Restaurant is inside a Holiday Inn but it is good enough to have it's own building. It has a mix of chinese, thai, and japanese (mostly). Very good sushi, tempura, and soups. Go during summer when all entrees and sushi are 50% off. Very good deal for great food. Best sushi in Vail. If I wasn't on vacation, I would come back again and again.

We enjoyed our meal at Nozawa it was delicious! Yum yum. Reasonable and large portions.

There are so many better options for sushi in the valley than this. If you are stuck in the holiday inn and really think sushi should be like a California roll, then this is your place. No need to make a special trip if you can't walk here.

  • Scott C.

Eat Sushi all over and found Nozawa very comparable to the best. Location is not strong suit (as noted) and decor is just OK. Not a fancy place. Service was attentive and warm. Fish was fresh, rolls were original and well made. Two chefs worked their magic on our large order for 5 hungry skiiers. Def worth a try.

Been there several times and the food and staff are always great. Prompt service, and delish chicken & broccoli

had lunch there today. sushi rolls were very good. not amazing but very enjoyable. cute little place and waitress was very helpful and prompt. definately the summer 1/2 price sushi and dinners is a huge plus in vail. I would go back for syre next time I am in town.

Place was highly recommended by a coworker that lives here. I was here in the off season so there were great deals on the sushi and entrees! We ordered the jalapeno poppers for an appetizer which was probably my favorite part of the meal - so delicious! Fresh jalapenos, cream cheese, tempura batter, drizzled with eel sauce. The sushinwas also very good. I had a dragon roll and a spider roll. Good service and decent prices.

Yes-zawa! There's no place on earth like vail, and a place like this is the reason why. A simple, unpretentious place of goodness. The menu is diverse, as the tastes range from fantastic sushi to a pad Thai that makes you go wait, what?! Where am I? If you have a taste for Asian cuisine, do not pass this place by on your journey. The pot stickers set the mood, and the crunch roll is beyond compare. Wrap it all up with a sale bomb...or three... And you've really got something.

  • Mariel C.

This place was really good. It's surprising, because upon arrival the first thing you notice is that the decor that really needs an update, but the food was consistently tasty. We ordered 3 specialty rolls and some nigiri sushi, all of which were really fantastic. All the appetizers were decent, but the vegetable spring rolls were the must have. So delicious. All in all, we were looking to get away from the posh overpriced restaurants in vail while still enjoying the meal, and this fulfilled that entirely. I'd go back.

Surprised to find such great sushi in vail, co-especially when I am from south florida! Sushi was fresh and delicious! Run-don't walk here!

I am baffled that this place has received such good reviews. I saw the negative reviews and discounted them since so many other people had positive experiences, but I should have heeded the warnings. When you walk in it immediately looks outdated and dirty. The fact that it was empty at dinner time also should have clued me in, but for whatever reason we still ordered. The sushi was the worst I've ever eaten. It was dried out and tasted very fishy. I ate a couple pieces and the third was so rancid that I gagged and had to spit it out.

Currently running a deal for 50% off all sushi. From what I understand this is running for the whole summer, and something they do yearly to drum up business during the off season. In my opinion, this makes Nozawa one of the best restaurants for the money in the greater Vail area. You certainly won't find good sushi for such a reasonable price anywhere else. My one gripe I guess would be that the specialty roll menu seemed a tad redundant, where many different rolls were similar when the ingredients were compared side by side, but all on all, this was a small thing, because all of it was quite good, and the presentation was nice. The ambiance was nothing special, but nothing to complain about at the same time, especially when the sushi is half price. Just don't expect an authentic Japanese atmosphere. Disclaimer: As you probably have been able to tell, this review was based on the fact that their 50% off all sushi deal was going on. I don't think I would eat here if we were paying full bore, where the price of each special role runs from roughly $16-22. At full price, Nozawa is just too expensive for what you're getting from the food to the atmosphere. Maybe I'm just spoiled by Sinju in downtown Portland, OR that I think is better than Nozawa, and not as expensive. If you happen to find yourself in the Vail area during the summer, and you like sushi, I would highly recommend Nozawa.

Very amazed. Awesome Sushi in Vail, Co. Some of the best I have ever had. We came here based off of yelp reviews and were not disappointed. We ordered the Atomic Shrimp Roll, Mountain Top Roll, and the Double Double Roll. As an app we had the potstickers. Wonderful food!

Simply put, great sushi... I frequent Hapa and Zanmai in Boulder, and as far as Colorado sushi goes, this is right up at the top... The ONLY drawback, yes it's INSIDE the Holiday Inn and it's a bit more pricey than places on the front range, but hey, you're in Vail, it's expected.... Holiday Inn sushi isn't always at the top of my list either, but trust me, it's WELL worth it....

We always get their bento lunches. Great deal for some really good food. For dinner I have had their sushi twice and LOVED it. The guys making it are super entertaining and the staff is always friendly. Not the best sushi I've ever had, but hey, they do a great job. Combined with their 50% off during non-peak times and you got yourself set!

Rolls aren't bad but this is not an authentic Japanese place if that's what you were looking for. friendly Thai sushi maker. Good sake sampler.

We were lucky enough to enjoy another trip to Vail this year and it just isn't a trip to Vail without visiting Nozawa Sushi. Here's what we had on this visit: Drinks: Brent had a Sapporo and I had a pomegranate sake. It was too sweet so I'll try a different sake next time. Sushi: Nice salmon roll. Spectacular Sunset Roll. The Sunset is tempura shrimp and crabmeat topped with salmon and avocado, and was so good we were dancing in our seats with happiness. Entree: Peanut Curry with Chicken. Loved the spiciness that didn't overwhelm the delicate taste of the sauce. We finished it all and left happy.

We were a bunch of 8 hungry people waiting to fill our stomachs after the awesome time rappelling. Any decent food would have tasted great. But, we had a pretty bad time here. + The fried rice here was terrible! - The taste was not good at all, the ingredients were not fresh and they added so much turmeric (!) in the rice. (rating : 1 star) + My wife had Sesame Tofu - It was decent. Rating (3 stars) + My friends had the lunch platter - It was ok. Not so fresh food though (2.5 stars) Check out for better options before you go here (if you decide so).

Yes, that's right, it's a sushi place on the ground floor of a Holiday Inn. Now, get past that and you're in for a much cheaper sushi fix than you'll find across I-70 in Vail Village. I hear this is the haunt where the locals head, but given how early we arrived (and on Super Bowl Sunday, no less), we were the only ones there. The service was therefore understandably prompt and perfectly attentive. Our waiter even gave us a score update since there aren't any TVs in the dining area. I started with a small bowl of miso soup and was easily satisfied - I had been craving miso soup all day! I had several rolls including the Double Double (spicy tuna topped with spicy yellow tail and salmon with scallions drizzled with a tad of spicy mayo and eel sauce), Mountain Top (tuna, crab meat, avocado, and cucumber topped with masago and formed to create "peaks" with each piece), and Salmon Roll (self-explanatory). My husband munched on his sesame chicken while I inhaled most of the rolls - true to form. We both agreed that the Double Double was our favorite, but all of the rolls were pretty good. It's not Nobu, but it's better than I'm used to getting at my neighborhood grocery sushi counter and at a price that's not that out of line with other sushi joints I'm used to. I may not have been as satisfied had I not had a serious hankering for sushi, but it sure hit the spot that evening!

Surprisingly great sushi! My daughter and husband are what I like to call Sushi Snobs. There was no way I was even mentioning its location. Upon arrival as I expected I got the look of this is going to be bad.... Not a chance we scored big on this meal. Service, quality, taste and price.

Wow, a complete surprise that the best sushi I have had in Colorado is in a Holiday Inn. I have no idea how they get such great cuts of fish. The chefs are amazing and the presentation is among the best I've seen, and I lived in L.A. for over 20 years. They have a fantastic Happy Hour form 4-6. After that the prices are reasonable for Vail, but high for most other areas of Colorado. Very highly recommended.

Sushi here is amazingly fresh and consistently good. The rice is perfectly cooked. Prices are very reasonable, service is friendly and good. Highly recommended in every season. The ikura and yellowtail are my favorite with a little warm sake or green tea.perfection. This restaurant is a hidden gem....hidden is the operative word as it is hidden inside the Holiday Inn in West Vail.

What a nice surprise tucked away under a Holiday Inn at Vail. The fish was fresh enough. Everything else (miso soup, noodles, rolls) were good. I wouldn't hesitate to return.

We went at lunch time, and the 4 of us each had a different bento box special...none of the sushi except the Cali rolls that came with each. One of us wasn't very enthused about her choice (the pad thai - lacked some spices and peanuts), but everyone else was satisfied with theirs. Their hot-and-sour soup was excellent.

Love this place. I eat here all the time. Literally 30 times a year. All at this liitle sushi place in the Holiday Inn in West Vail. Best is Bento Box lunch. Great value for $8. They have happy hour at 4-6pm everyday, and hot sake (including Purple Haze). Sushi is good. Don't expect competitive city sushi, but decent. It's delicious. One of my favorite local Vail Restaurants.

    (5)
  • L. R.

The decor is nondescript but their specials wow you. My friend and I went everyday for their bento box special - $7.50 - here's what you get: small bowl of miso soup 1 cup of sticky rice 3 California rolls 3 pieces of tempura vegetables lettuce with ginger dressing choice of entree - pad thai with tofu one day, kung pao tofu the next This HAS to be the best value in Vail. It's in a Holiday Inn which you wouldn't think would have something like this. We went back on our last night and 4 of us had sushi and miso soup. Their miso soup is excellent with small uniform pieces of tofu floating around. The tempura vegetables are onion ring, sweet potato and zucchini very lightly battered. The lettuce is just iceberg lettuce chopped with ginger dressing but it's a welcome coolness if you get something spicy. The pad thai was delicious as was the kung pao. When we shared we had avocado and cucumber roll and vegetarian roll; both excellent. Our friends had the crunch roll and the half shrimp inside is crunchy and fried - so what - (crunchy) The sushi menu clearly defines what the sushi is. We were there off season so sushi was 25% and 50% off. What a deal. I'd go back in a minute. It was the best.

I am not a sushi snob. I have not been eating sushi for years and years. Nor have I had sushi all over the world, but I do know what good food tastes like and I had a wonderful time here! They made our dinner right in front of us fresh. The presentation was great. The food was very good and fresh. The wait staff was very attentive but that might be because they weren't super busy and we had a wonderful hour or so of quiet conversation while we ate and watched the chefs make other dinner's meals also. Maybe not the fanciest place and not in Vail Village, but then the price was also to my liking because of that!

  • Steven T.

Definitely on the pricey side, but then again everything in Vail is expensive so I guess this is average. Service is very friendly and decor is decent. Not your high end sushi place, but decent place to grab some sushi if you don't want to fork over a fortune. The sushi is on the pretty good side for a place in Vail. They also have your typical hot Japanese dishes such as udon, tempura and bento boxes. I had a hamachi roll to start and udon for my main course. The sushi was on the dry side but the fish was fresh so that is good. The udon was a bit too sweet for my liking. Total bill was ~$30 including tax and tip (again this is Vail) Interestingly, they also have a few Thai options including pad thai and tom kang soup. Didn't get the Thai so I can't comment on that.

  • Peter M.

The sushi was good, and that's the most important thing; however, the atmosphere left something to be desired. It is located in the ground floor of the Holiday Inn. Inside the restaurant, pop music was pumping and the place felt like a cheap buffet instead of a fine sushi restaurant.

    (4)
  • Wen C.

Same as we had in San Jose area. One extra star for the 50% off on all the roll. Lunch Benton is mixed with Asia style and only 7.99. We had beef with curry Benton and Maha Maha Roll and Yellow tail roll for only 22USD.

  • Adam M.

Great sushi, reasonably priced (especially for VAIL) and excellent customer service. The Bento lunch special is a great deal. Only negative thing is that they are buried in the Holiday Inn. Not really much of a big deal but sometimes parking can be tough outside when the Westside Cafe is packed and the hotel is full.

I had dinner with my husband at Nozawa Sushi on our recent trip to Vail. It was a Tuesday evening, of October 16 2007. All in all, since its the only SUSHI place OPEN at that time, and it offers also other menu for my husband, its an OK place. I agree with some of the views by the First Reviewer. As per norm, I ordered these: A couple of Unagi & Spicy Scallops Spicy Scallops Hand Rolls Shredder Roll While hubby, ordered his Famous Sesame Chicken. I do hope they open more SUSHI eateries up in the mountains for us to enjoy throughout the whole year.
