Notice: I have never posted a yelp review before, but that's how awesome this place is. I called from Los Angeles on short notice to try and get a dozen assorted cupcakes delivered to my brother for his birthday. Lauren was incredibly helpful and accommodating, and I've gotten word that the cupcakes were delicious! I'm definitely stopping by next time I'm in Vail. Thanks, Mountain Cupcakes!

As we roamed the streets of Vail village for something sweet, we came across Mountain Cupcakes! Lauren - the owner was there to greet us with a welcome of appreciation. We tried a freshly made macaroon ( I took the last one ) as well as Basil Lime macaroon & a Lavender Hibiscus. Absolutely AMAZING!! We came back the following night for more. ITS A MUST STOP!!! Thank you Lauren ... We can't wait until you start shipping!!

Limited selection of cupcakes and other random sweets. However, I had a delicious chocolate cupcake with a chocolate chip frosting and a fresh chocolate chip cookie added in decoration. Good affordable stop in Vail Village if trying to satisfy a sweet craving!

We visited for Vail Restaurant Week and walked super far to get some cupcakes and I'm so glad we did! The Oreo cupcake was incredible! Even though the icing was just slathered on it (it didn't look very pretty) it was one of the best tasting cupcakes I've had. My husband enjoyed his carrot cake cupcake. We didn't love the mocha cupcakes- they seemed to be pretty low on chocolate and high on the coffee taste and it felt like something was missing. The selection was pretty small and they were out of a lot of flavors when we got there, but we enjoyed chatting with the young woman working. Very good cupcakes!

Hokay, so as I do not love cake, seeking out a cupcakerie is not always on my to-do list; however, as I was strolling down Gore Creek Drive en route to make it rain dark chocolate malted milk balls and homemade peanut butter cups from the nearby Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in my tum, I spied the massive macarons and pillowy frosting perched atop the lil cakes at MC, so I had to stop in. The store is tiny and each time slightly uncomfortably crowded, but it's worth the wait for one of MC's mocha, choco peppermint, or lemon lavender macarons - and though I claim no cupcake mastery, the German chocolate cupcake was moist and amply frosting-ed, so I managed to choke it down like a champion. Cupcakes are $4-5ish, other pastries (including a vegan, GF option) are around $5 - portions are large for the nana bread, brownies, etc, but the cupcakes aren't massive, so it's kind of "resort pricing", if you will, though it's all homemade and Lauren, the owner is lovely, so whatever. They also have very drinkable coffee and a breakie burrito or something like that. Don't stop in if you're in a rush - store is tiny and always packed. Efficient it isn't, but yummy it is, so pick your battles.

The cupcakes were absolutely delicious - everyone raved about them at our wedding. They were incredibly fresh and moist with frosting that melts in your mouth! Lauren was incredibly easy to work with - setup was very affordable with no silly charges for stands. She came by and set up the cupcakes in a wonderful display without us having to watch after her. Thank you so much for a hassle-free and yummy wedding day!

They have you pay for your desert before they serve it up to you on a plate. I was in shock so much so that it didn't occur to ask for my money back and refuse their product. The portion's are so small that after laughing about it to the point of tears, it occurred to us that our tears were not because the situation was funny but we were upset at ourselves for not demanding our money back. I ordered the cheesecake and Deric ordered a cupcake. The special of the day was plain cheesecake and I asked if it had a sour cream topping and the chef/owner replied that it didn't but there was sour cream in the cake itself and that it was one of her husband's favorites. She didn't tell me that the plain cheesecake had a citrus in it that overpowered the, "plain" flavor so much so that she rightfully should have called it citrus-zest cheese cake. That alone isn't my reason for ranking this place a one-star but fact that my slice of cheesecake was no larger than the prongs/tines on my plastic fork. Seriously, this slice of citris-zest cheesecake was around $4.00 (frankly I'm still in shock and don't fully remember but the owner-operator can gladly email me to send me my money back because Deric's $3.75 cupcake was mediocre at best). Seriously, "LADY, I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!). I took a photo and posted it below so there's no mistake that my review has merit. To the best of my recollection, The Original Cheesecake Factory cheesecake has at least five times the volume that my tiny slice had. It's 2015 and eating out is an expensive splurge by any standard but if Mountain Cupcakes was a representation of all restaurants, than the only people that could afford to eat out would be those that can afford a home in Vail, Colorado. I'm Don and you can email me at donny.dubb@gmail.com

Worst cupcakes ever. Cute shop, friendly owner, but the cupcakes weren't edible. Bought three different kinds, took them home, and sat down with the kids to eat them. Everyone ended up spitting them out and throwing the rest away. Not even the 4 year old would eat them and she eats anything!

I discovered this place one day when my co-worker and I were having a craving for some sweets. We both indulged in CARROT CAKE cupcakes! Seriously to die for and even writing this review is making me want to go get one. The frosting is just seriously delicious and the owner of the shop was friendly and so sweet.

I indulged in a salted caramel cupcake. When I first tried to pick it up and bite into it, it seemed to crumble in my hand. I started to complain to my friend, but then I realized there was delicious caramel inside. I was more than willing to sacrifice the structural integrity of the cupcake for that tasty secret! The frosting was the best I have ever had - so light and fluffy and not overly sweet. If a single, average-sized cupcake hadn't set me back $5.30, I would have given 5 stars.

I called from Los Angeles to have some cupcakes delivered my husband and the staff at a local jewelry store in the village. Lauren was a true business woman and gave me all sorts of choices on the phone. I entrusted her to be the creative one...I wanted 4th of July theme and she assured me she would take care of it. I got a text the next morning letting me know they were on the way and another one once they were delivered. The staff raved about the cupcakes and I am so pleased I chose Mountain Cupcakes. Great job Lauren and thank you!

Love the carrot cake cupcakes. The price is a bit steep , but is understandable due to high rent in the village. Now that Rocky Mountain Candy store has moved near Mountain Cupcakes this should become the kid Mecca area! :)

I consider myself a cupcake expert. In Houston I've go to all of the cupcake/bakeries that pop up. The owner of Mountain Cupcakes was very nice and helpful. When I go to Vail I will definitely come here to get some cupcakes.

Cupcakes are my absolute favorite dessert and I am one tough critic when it comes to them! My mom's boyfriend recently went to Vail and brought a variety of cupcakes back from here for us to try and can I just say WOW. By the time we were able to eat them they were a couple of days old, but they still tasted unbelievably fresh and delicious. The chocolate icing on the vanilla cupcake was so rich and decadent and the carrot cake was one of the best carrot cakes and cream cheese frostings I have ever had. We also tried the German chocolate cake and Red Velvet, which did not disappoint. I only hope I can make it out there in person soon so I can sample more of what Mountain Cupcakes has to offer!

I had a peanut butter, granola, and honey sandwich along with an Oreo cupcake for dessert. Both were absolutely to die for and I look forward to stopping by once again when I'm next in Vail!

Not impressed. $4.82 for an average size, average quality cupcake. Not sure ill be back. Love the idea of a cupcake shop in the village though. That cupcake should have been less than $3. Too bad. The owner is super nice.

Lauren and her cupcakes were incredible! If I lived up there, I'd be a thousand lbs! If you are GLUTEN FREE she's your gal! Her GF cupcakes were just as awesome as the normal ones! I will be back there for sure this winter :-)

Lauren is a true professional! Wow! If everyone conducted business the way she does, we would be a much better society! I personally haven't tried her cupcakes, but based off of the reviews, I ordered birthday cupcakes (I'm in LA) to be delivered to friends who were vacationing in Vail. Lauren helped to suggest an assortment. She followed up with an email receipt before we even hung up the phone, and after the cupcakes were delivered, I received another email confirmation with photos. Lauren also thought ahead about the order and carefully wrapped them in two different boxes so they would stay fresh longer, as it was a large order for a few people. These are the kinds of amazing things this woman did. I haven't met her, but I hope to someday. Highly recommend!

Nestled in the quaint Vail Village is the sweet and humble Mountain Cupcake. Blasting music and displaying the delicious goods in a fun and artsy way you find a oh so delicious, light as air with a touch of sweetness cupcake. We purchased the cookies and cream cupcake. The frosting was made with Oreo cookies and there were pieces of the chocolate cookie in the chocolate batter of the cupcake. It was delicious, light and not at all as sweet as I imagined. It was the perfect balance. I most certainly would buy from this darling bakery again.

Good cupcakes, I had red velvet, moist and yummy frosting. Husband had chocolate chip and father had carrot cake. All were really good. It was a little hot on the store and we had to wait a few minutes for the gal to get back from the bank.

Mountain Cupcakes was a total disappointment! A cupcake shop in Vail is a great idea, but not well executed. Billy's Bakery (NYC), Magnolia Bakery and even Crumbs surpass Mountain Cupcakes in quality. Will try again in a few months to see if there is improvement. The cake was all right, but the icing was gross. A friend and I shared a yellow cake cupcake with vanilla icing and a chocolate with salted caramel frosting. Cake is dry-ish and not that sweet, almost like a biscuit. Icing was very soft. The vanilla icing did not taste like anything, and the salted caramel icing tasted like salt. I may go back in a few months to try again to see if there is any improvement.

Cupcakes from Mountain Cupcakes are simply the best!! I've tried many 'designer' cupcake places in San Francisco, CA and I would say that Mountain Cupcakes definitely ranks up there with the top rated spots. My favorite is the red velvet cupcake, I could eat one everyday and still not get enough. The cake is moist, actually has coco flavor, it's more dark red/brown-red like how real red velvet should be, not the awful bright candy-red colored cupcakes you sometimes see in stores. The frosting is to die for. One of the best cream cheese frosting I've ever had and super fresh. If I lived in Vail, this would be my go-to place to order cupcakes for friends, birthdays, parties, and gifts. I wish they'd open a location in San Francisco :)

Pretty good cupcakes. The place is new and the owner is trying hard to make it work, but you can tell she is new at retail. However, we ordered a dozen cupcakes and went to friends for dinner. Everyone enjoyed them, but a little more work is needed to be really great (which is what Vail visitors are going to expect). Good news is, the difference between good (where she is today) and great is only a few tweaks. Lots of comments about dry cake, easy to fix. The icings are interesting, I had the caramel with salt, needs slightly less salt.

Literally the worst cupcake I've eaten in my life. I honestly think someone forgot to put the sugar in the frosting. I really wanted to return this cupcake but it wasn't worth my time to go back for $3.50. A good cupcake can bring so much joy but a awful cupcake can really take the wind out of your sails. :(

Best cupcakes in Vail. Right sized and tasty. The owner and baker Lauren is seemingly always onsite and really friendly. Don't miss this treat!

I am a relative cup cake freak! I have tried cupcakes in Pasadena (Violet's Cakes---really good) and in Denver Highlands (Happy Cakes---fair++) and these cakes from Mountain Cupcakes are incredible!!!! They are worth the drive up from Denver. They are simply the best cupcakes I have EVER had. The frosting is light and buttery and fluffy and just to die for. The cakes are filled with the most incredible caramel or fudge or whatever and are light and OMG great. I can't gush enough. Try them. You'll love them.

We wandered in during our visit to Vail and are so glad!! Lauren was so sweet and the cupcakes ere amazing!! I had the Salted Carmel and my husband had the Double Chocolate!! They both smelled and tasted amazing! I also love that she offered Steamed Milk on the menu. It was perfect with my cupcake!!

The cupcake was such a failure, the frosting was disgusting which tasted like it's been made few days ago, and the worst part was they overcharged on my credit card. What a thief, totally not worth it, don't go there.

Grossest cupcakes ever! Paid over $7 for 2 small cupcakes that we didn't finish. The icing was gross and had zero taste and a goo consistency. 99 cent boxed cake mix cupcakes are 10 times better, dont get trapped like we did! Lady didn't even box them, just sat them on counter and rang me up, also pay in cash because they will surcharge you for using any type of plastic! This is definitely a tourist trap!

The cake was dry and hard to eat. The icing on my cupcake tasted like salted butter. Such a disappointment for a shop in VAIL. The girl was nice but needs to taste her own stuff:-)

I ordered cupcakes for a friend of mine who was staying in Vail for his birthday. I placed my order at the last minute since I did not know where he'd be staying until the day before I had them delivered. Lauren, the owner, was very helpful and went out of her way to deliver them on her way home from the shop, since my friend was staying near her house. She also told me she could make special flavors that my friend would like and even wrote out a note that I asked her to include. I didn't have the chance to eat the cupcakes myself, but my friend said they were delicious. I highly recommend working with Lauren and if I make it out to Vail I'll be stopping in to try her cupcakes myself.

These are some delicious cupcakes in the middle of Vail village and the owner is just great. Not only because she sells frozen yoghurt for dogs! You should stop by if craving some cupcakes!

Mountain Cupcakes is the place to go for delicious cupcakes and fun flavors! I absolutely loved all of the innovative flavors and the gluten free options are great. I've tried a great deal of cupcake shops all over California but none compare to the cupcakes at Mountain Cupcakes. The banana cupcake was my favorite and was the perfect balance of yummy, natural banana flavor and the peanut butter frosting it was paired with made it even more delectable! The mini cupcakes are also a wonderful option for kids or if you can't decide on just one flavor. I had a bunch of different mini cupcakes and enjoyed each and every one. A must-try sweet stop in Vail, I highly recommend Mountain Cupcakes!

Today was my second visit to Mountain Cupcakes and I really really really wanted to love it but sadly was disappointed again. My first time here back in October I only tried the red velvet which was dry and with a lighter type frosting than what you would normally find in a red velvet. This time we got a variety, ( vanilla with chocolate frosting, red velvet, chocolate with vanilla frosting and chocolate with peanut butter frosting). ALL of the actual cupcakes were extremely dry and the frostings were mediocre at best with the exception of the peanut butter one, that one was decent if it wasn't for the dry cake. I think they need to find a new cake recipe that will work in this high altitude (you should check out the Bundt Shoppe in the Denver area, their cakes are amazingly moist and flavorful). Maybe also try a more traditional buttercream frosting, there are a lot of us out there that love that! I will most likely give this place another shot because I love cupcakes and don't know of any other places in Vail.

Absolutely amazing! Lauren, the owner, is on top of it! She is absolutely amazing and willing to help customers with anything she can! She made a cake for us last minute, and let me tell you - it was AMAZING!!!!! Definitely will be back for more ;)

My niece and I stopped in yesterday for a couple of cupcakes. Lauren, the owner, was delightful. We stayed and chatted with her while she prepared warm cupcakes right out of the oven. The red velvet was moist and topped with creamy frosting. The espresso cupcake center was full of delicious chocolate frosting. Our family is ordering cupcakes for a family dinner tomorrow night to celebrate a great vacation in Vail. Lauren's warm and friendly personality coupled with her yummy cupcakes make for a fun experience.

I had a strawberry filled cupcake with a whipped cream-type frosting. I thought it was very good and moist. I encourage folks to support this store as it is owned by a young entrepreneur. Sure, she may need to tweak a few things, but she just opened 2 months ago. I think it's a great addition to Vail for us "less than posh" folks.

We are planning a Summer wedding in Vail and we received Lauren's name and were told "have the carrot cupcake!" So, we tasted carrot, red velvet, coconut, banana, etc and they were delicious. Lauren is just getting started with her business and her service has been terrific. She made special arrangements to bring my entire family samples when we were in Vail for a second time last month. She is completely open for suggestions and it is clear has a real passion for fun and delicious cupcakes.

If you know me, you know that I'm picky about my cupcakes. There are so many cupcakes places in the DC metro area and they, by and far, fall on their faces in flavors and textures. When I get a cupcake with blackberry buttercream I'd like to taste the blackberry and not just have a cupcake topped with what tastes like whipped up butter. Ew. DC has a whole lot of dry flavorless cupcakes being sold for a ridiculous amount. Which is why I was a little trepidatious about trying these cupcakes. My sweettooth one over, though, and I pounced. My friend and I got the oreo cupcake and the mocha cupcake. We also got...well I got a chai and I forget what my connie-face got. My chai was delicious, just as chai should be. The cupcakes were so so good. The icing was rich and flavorful but not too dense - awesome! The cake itself was moist and delicious. This place impressed my taste buds and I highly recommend the cupcakes! I should have used my yelp checkin for a free coffee - don't be like jessica! Get that coffee!

Mountain cupcakes is the best option in the valley. That being said, the cupcakes are average. Not bad, but not exceptional either. The cake is a little dry and the frosting a bit sweet for my liking. I will say, however, the giant macaroons are delicious. More specifically, the lavender macaroon with vanilla creme and lemon curd filling was amazing. The shop is small, not really adequate for eating in. I'd say, it's better to pre-order or take it to-go--Def not sufficient for groups, and it didn't look like they make enough of anything in advance to feed a larger group either. The decor is super cute though; it provided an inviting experience--not to mention, it smelled amazing because they do ALLL their baking in-house.
