Excellent food. My wife and I had our first meal in Vail here and it was a delight. We've been to several places in Vail since but our first meal at Montuak hasn't been topped. Be sure to try their Lobster Mac & Cheese.

The lobster bisque was great! Lobster tail, not so much. Good wine selection too. Located right in Lionshead, so it's easy to get to via any shuttle. Very friendly staff!

Kayleigh was the perfect beginning to our evening. What a great spot - we wanted to sit outside but no tables. The Vail economy is off so they were discounting everything by 20%. OK the prices were more like Beaver Creek but with discount you could enjoy your Mako Shark, Short Ribs, and Crusted Halibut. The Sandy Pie was wonderful but the place just got better and better - Kayleigh is a former government employee enjoying her youth in a beautiful setting just off Battle Mountain. Wow - what a great server and friendly person. I suggest Montauk.

I was a little nervous given the only other review, but ended up feeling quite satisfied with my meal and would rank it a solid 3.5 stars. Wednesday nights this season were half price Ketel One "martinis" and half off the raw bar. Yes, this is the middle of the country, so I was feeling a bit sketch about ordering oysters, but somehow this did not extend to ahi poke. While it wasn't quite a traditional poke what with the avocado and all, it was tasty. Other elements to our meal included a lovely endive salad, halibut (nicely seared, not fried), and "sand pie," a twist on mud pie that worked well after a cocktail and a glass of wine. Apparently, all the restaurants around here that serve seafood are getting daily shipments via FedEx...so if you're into that "local eating" thing, this is probably not the place for you. otherwise, it's definitely worth stopping by on one of their special nights.

This place is GREAT. Really good seafood. I had the halibut with potatoes and a side salad. It was just plain yummy, especially after all the activities you do during the day at Vail. I see why so many people never want to leave! We had great service and were able to get right in...although I think with reservations you could probably get a better table. The only downside to our night was the loud, obnoxious group next to us. Certainly not the restaurants fault.

We didn't plan on ending up here. Every restaurant in Vail was full, as was Montauk, but they were able to fit us in as a walk-up. The oysters here were as good as they are on the coasts. The Ahi, their signature dish, was outstanding...and the Florida Black Grouper was very good. The desert they list as "long time customer favorite" was good as well, but not particularly memorable. Service was a little slow, but our server was very friendly and accommodating. Prices seemed to be reasonable compared with similar restaurants in the area. We were a little hesitant to eat here based on comments in some of the other reviews, but Montauk exceeded our expectations overall.
