Prime Rib is a must, it is what they do. Service was great. Muscles were so so. Apple Strudel, yum!!! Will for sure come back!

To our group of four, there is nothing more appealing than a piece of rare to medium-rare prime rib, topped with a horseradish-sour cream sauce or simply au jus. Our server started talking about ther prime rib being cooked for 14 hours, and I began to wonder how it was going to come out rare (my preference). Sure enough, the meat came out brown, not the least bit pink. The edges of the meat had no flavor--I can only guess it had been cooked away in that long a cooking process. I will say the meat was not dry, but if you like meat rare or medium rare, you won't like the way Lancelot prepares their prime rib. Three of us also had the escargot en croute. Personally, I thought they were excellent, but the other couple (who don't eat out that often) complained that the escargot "...didn't have enough garlic or butter..." and they didn't like the pastry topping. (I found it to be excellent.) The atmosphere is very pleasant, and service was excellent.

Apple Streudel is inferior to the Swiss Chalet's. Recommend eating the appetizers at Lancelot ($11 French onion soup and wedge salad for $10) then promptly leaving to Swiss Chalet for dessert.

I didn't care for this place when I was a kid - it was dimly lit, poorly decorated, and I just wasn't a fan of prime rib. Fast forward about 15 years: the decor has been updated and the lighting is now adequate. I have learned to appreciate prime rib, but I ordered the wiener schnitzel - it was excellent, but I didn't care for the spaghetti squash that came with it. My dining companions ordered prime rib, and they all seemed very happy with their food. My only complaint is that Lancelot doesn't offer free refills for soda - which I think is kind of a chintzy move.

This restaurant had a nice ambiance and decor along with great food. Two of us ordered the trout entree which was tasty and my boyfriend was happy with the 8 oz. prime rib. You can get mashed potatoes instead of baked potato at no extra cost along with bacon. We ordered the escargot appetizer which was superb. It was baked with bread on top which made it unique. To finish our excellent meal we got the creme brûlée special which was a good way to end our meal. I would definitely come here again next time I'm in Vail Village!

Amazing food! Great presentation! Had the calamari, New York paired with a glass of Malbec. The ice cream filled crepe for dessert is to die for. Two of us dined for about 135. A bit pricey but worth every cent!! My absolute favorite restaurant in the vail valley

What an awesome surprise!!! Badass happy hour! Highly recommend the infused vodka and the prime rib sliders. Bartenders were on point too! Thank you!

This place is adorable on the outside and cozy on the inside! At the heart of Vail Village what a great place to get warm, have some drinks and eat some great food! We ordered the Moscow Mules... really good! I'm not usually a fan of ginger beer, however, the Dark and Stormy rocked my world.. YUM-O! We tried some different appetizers that all were delicious, esp the shrimp, which living in AZ we get a ton of FROZEN, but this was FRESH! The Apple Strudel was Freaking STELLAR! Seriously AWESOME and a MUST try! The New England clam chowder was pretty good too =) but the tomato basil soup looked and smelled better... I will be getting that next time!

Very nice setting on the river if you manage to get a table outdoors and the weather is nice. The food was OK nothing special. The menu was misleading for us. Delicious looking veal chop turned out to be regular "veal scaloppini".

Great food and super great service. We had the trout and the weinersnitzel. Very happy we came. Ask for Matt as your waiter. He's great!

Enjoyed the decor, good food and good drinks. The linguine shrimp was the best meal ordered at our table!

Not worth what we paid for. We expected dinner to be expensive since we were at a ski resort. We thought from the menu, however, the food would be decent. Our service started out OK but I got the vibe our server wasn't very interested in waiting on us. We had just walked in from the Go Pro Mountain Games so we weren't dressed up or anything. Honestly, we were bumming it compared to the other patrons in the restaurant but that doesn't mean we are not able to pay for our meals or tip well. We started off with Calamari which was good enough. We were just so hungry from walking around all day, we were happy to eat anything that came out quickly. As we sat there waiting for our main meals (50 minutes?!?!) I noticed that other tables that were seated after us had received their meals. Our server was no where to be found to ask what was going on. Finally, we saw a man walking in our direction with Prime Rib and Trout. We were excited until he took an abrupt turn and gave the food to another couple seated next to us. Funny enough, the woman at that table had the Trout and the man had the Prime Rib. Just how my boyfriend and I had ordered. What was upsetting was that we had ordered 15 minutes before these people even showed up. How were they getting their food first when we ordered way before? It wasn't because we had an appetizer because they had one too. Our server finally appears, drops off a knife for the prime rib, says our food will be out shortly, and disappears again before I can say anything. I could tell she was frazzled. As we sat there, I watched her, the guy that dropped off the food to the other table, and someone else from the kitchen. They were all having some dramatic bickering match. Now, if there was some sort of mix up or the kitchen was backed up, I don't care. What I do care about is sitting there while my server is no where to be found or unreachable. At least come up to our table and say something to us, not avoid us. It's just plain courtesy. Our main meal finally came out (10-15 minutes after she said shortly) and she blames the kitchen saying they got some new people sucking. Too late to blame the kitchen lady. By this time, the couple next to us had already finished their meal and were waiting for their check. What made me laugh was listening to them talk about their meal with the guy saying his steak was over cooked and wanting it more medium rare. When my boyfriend ate his steak, he was annoyed with how under cooked it was and not medium well like he wanted. We tried to be happy that our food finally came out but couldn't because it basically sucked. His steak was cooked wrong and grey looking (Kind of gross). Also, his baked potato tasted like it had been in a microwave for 10minutes. Super dry and overdone. No amount of butter in the world could have saved it. My trout was meh. Definitely had better. What annoyed me was the tiny amount of rice. Seriously, there was barely a quarter of a cup of rice. It was all over the place too. As if they were trying to hurry the plate out of the kitchen and someone suddenly remembered it was suppose to have rice on it and threw a handful at the plate as it left the door. This place really isn't worth your time, appetite, or money.

Worst prime rib, first blood rare waiter argued it had been cooked 24hours then brought it back charred as our punishment for saying something, after a 40 minute wait! This used to be the good place to go for many years...ugh.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. This used to be my favorite restaurant in Vail with the best prime rib in Colorado (and a 5 star rating from me). No more. All of their prime rib last night was well done. At a restaurant as good as Lancelot used to be that should not happen - but everyone makes mistakes. The big problem is in how they handled it. An excellent restaurant would give us a heads up that the prime rib was only available well done when seating us as that's their signature dish. Nope. A good restaurant would tell use medium rare was not available when we ordered it. Nope. A good waiter when delivering it would apologize for it being overcooked and ask if it was ok. Nope. Instead the waiter claimed that it was medium rare and the lighting made it look well done (we had indirect sunlight, so no). I tried it and it was way overcooked and asked if he could get medium rare please. He brought out another and said this was just cooked and medium rare. It was another well done piece. And not even a good cut of prime rib the second time. At this point it's easily the worst prime rib in the state of Colorado. When I remarked that this was also well done he told me that's the best I'm going to get. I talked with the manager then and she went back in the kitchen, then came out and said she was sorry but all they have is well done. So finally an honest answer. She offered to get me something else but by then my wife had finished her meal and having her wait for 15 - 30 minutes until I got a steak and ate it - not nice for her. They've clearly stopped caring about the quality of their food and service. And their response to issues with the food is to lie. Awful experience.

Loved it, since I lived in France for a bit I was concerned that I would not be able to find really good food. The happy hour food was so nice and comparable to French that we returned here for the New Years dinner. And it went very well and tasty. Highly recommend.

My husband and I found ourselves in Vail for dinner on a Saturday night. After taking forever to decide we picked Lancelot. The entree special is what did it for us. My husband got the prime rib and I went for the trout. Everything was cooked to perfection and the service was great. If you are looking for a great romantic dinner, opt for Lancelot!

Third visit there. Forget the menu, two words PRIME RIB !!!!

The atmosphere in this restaurant is very pleasant. My husband and I each started with soups...his French Onion Soup was average, somewhat bland. My New England Clam Chowder was a major disappointment, I've had better from a can. The Prime Rib is very highly rated. Expecting a superb cut of meat, we were not impressed. It was very good, but not as anticipated. Now, the Trout Fillets were excellent and I would highly recommend this dish! Our server was exceptional and very attentive without being intrusive. Also, unless you are in a big rush, do not order your entree until you are finished with your appetizer...the meals come out lightening fast!

AHHHHHHH!!! Where do I begin..... First experience at this establishment and will most certainly be the last. We were the only people in the dining section of the restaurant. The bar had about 8-10 people in it, but the server/hostess decided to sit us at the far corner of the restaurant away from everything. We ordered what said on the menu $11 for a Caesar salad, the prime rib (medium) w/ bacon wrapped shrimp. You can't even decipher what the hell this menu says in the first place, but this is besides the point. After eating 1/4 of my undercooked prime rib (if this is what they are famous for...run for the hills), the bland bacon wrapped shrimp, and the sad excuse for the Caesar salad my wife ate, we asked for the check. After almost 15 minutes, she finally comes back with our check...$78! No alcohol, no appetizer, no add-ons! We confront the waitress why we were charged an extra $14 for the salad and overcharged on the shrimp. Her explanation was that the salad was $25 and not $11 like the menu said and the shrimp was $20 and not $15. Not really an explanation, just a stance that she wont change the bill. We ask for a manager, took another 10 minutes for him to get off his butt at the bar, and he came over shouting that he's the chef and this is the final price we must pay!!!!! WELL, LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING BUDDY.....YOU DONT TELL YOUR CUSTOMERS THAT YOU ARE CHARGING THEM SOMETHING ELSE OTHER THAN WHAT IS PRICED ON THE MENU JUST BECUASE YOU'RE THE CHEF!!!! After arguing for a good 5 minutes my wife walks out and we are both a little shocked with how this was being handled. They call the police...I stay...I have no problem with telling the police what has transpired, I have no problem paying for an expensive meal....I just have a problem with trying to be robbed of my money just because someone thinks they can. THEN, my wife tries to walk back in and the boss says "DONT LET THAT BITCH BACK IN!" HE CALLED MY WIFE A BITCH!!!!!!! Long story short, HE ADJUSTED THE BILL TO WHAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN AFTER THE POLICE CAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT! IT WILL RUIN YOUR TIME IN VAIL!!!!

Not a whole lot to say about this place. The food was ok but nothing out of this world. The service was sub par and the ambiance standard to what you would expect for a 4-5 star steak house. Try the place next door!

Just ate here! Great food. We shared the maple-mustard seed salmon and the 10oz prime rib. This was the most tender prime rub I've ever had in my life. Other people mentioned that the atmosphere was bland. Compared to other restaurants in this area, it was more simple. But that didn't detract from the experience

Just got back from a fantastic dinner at Lancelot in Vail. We're staying in Beaver creek and and we're looking for some good steak or prime rib. Went with my son and daughter-in-law and two granddaughters age 9 and 10. The experience was wonderful. Nice location right in Vail Village. Service was great. The waiter was very attentive and very cooperative about us sharing dinners (without charging us). I've had a lot of great dinners at some very very fancy steak places, and I can honestly say this was the best prime rib I've ever had (and everyone in our party agreed). Deserts were also great--especially the chocolate brownie sundae and the mud pie. Great experience. Left one of the bigger tips I've ever left, and I commended the manager.

Service, food, and ambiance all were perfect!! The restaurant was very nice but not too fancy (we wore nice jeans with nice tops). The filet mignon melts in your mouth and was reasonably priced at $39. Mashed potatoes, vegetables and champagne all were perfect as well. We were there for a birthday (which we told the host on the phone) and at the end of the meal a delicious apple crumble dessert was brought to our table. Definitely recommend going here if you are in Vail!

When I go to a high class, expensive restaurant in a prime location, I expect good service, and at least good food. When I first walked in, there was no one at the fest to seat us. We had someone in a wheelchair in our party, and I had to ask the bartender how she could get in. He was extremely rude, saying, "Well we don't have an elevator" before walking off. Fortunately a GUEST at the restaurant explained how to enter from a back door. The food was horrible. One person in our party had a steak ordered medium well. It was clearly only cooked to rare. My friend had the trout, which was actually the best item our party had, but it was on the driest piece of cornbread I've ever tasted. My veal was dry and chewy and the side dishes were mediocre at best. The other person in our party had her food arrive cold, much like the hard, cold bread brought to us before the meal. As for the waiter, my drink was empty for long periods of time before it was ever refilled. After our bread was gone, she checked our table twice before removing the basket or dusting the table. She didn't do that until after she brought the check. The restaurant itself is beautiful, but the staff is disheveled and unprofessional, and most people are dressed in regular day clothes. Thoroughly dissatisfied with the service, the food, and for the most part the atmosphere. If you are looking for a classy restaurant and a good meal, I do NOT recommend Lancelot's.

Good food. Kind, friendly service. Our server even had jokes. The bread was delicious. Everyone was happy & satisfied with their dishes. I also enjoyed the knight statue on the stairs leading down into the restaurant. Lancelot does happen to be one of those restaurants that doesn't serve late afternoon lunch & they're a bit pricey for the frugal foodie, so they miss the fifth star. I did thoroughly enjoy my experience though.

Forget House of Prime Rib. Ok maybe they don't have the fancy Yorkshire pudding, but the meat is seasoned just as well, medium rare done just right after being roasted for 14 hours. Even though the space looks underground, there's a nice indoor patio area with lots of natural light if you come early enough. Bonus if you come early: early bird special - with the purchase if a bottle of wine (they have some pretty reasonably priced wines), buy 1 entree and get the 2nd free. Starting with the steamed mussels, the broth is flavorful, not too buttery. The mussels are smaller, but there are literally over FIFTY mussels in the dish! The French onion soup is pretty standard, not bad. Definitely get the prime rib - the King Arthur cut is a better value. They bring the typical accompaniments, but you can ask for fresh horseradish, which is perfect with the beef. Side options included a spaghetti squash, which was nice and light. Another special was the Colorado striped bass. It's texture is more like a trout, but it was a generous portion with a nice green leek purée, served over cheesy mushroom risotto. My mom is a vegetarian, and the chef was able to do the same risotto with additional vegetables. The bowl was huge, and there was a nice variety of vegetables in it, and they charged only $20 for this custom made vegetarian dish ! As portions are so big that we were too full for desert. Lancelot is one of the more casual places in the village and is definitely the best value. It's become a go to place at Vail :)

Big ass cuts of prime rib. Au jus. Baked potato with sour cream and bacon bits. Not a lot complicated with that. They did it a pretty good job. Tried the salmon and it was surprisingly very good as was the veal schnitzel. Golden brown and squeezed lemon drizzled upon. Quite a nice apres ski. Definitely not as fancy / impressive decor and atmosphere as many of the other spots in Vail village, but a good spot for the meat and potatoes people in your life...or if you need a break from the white table cloth.

Strange. I think I was part of the group that Marilyn T. went with back in 2009 but somehow I have no recollection of it. No matter, I returned recently and found the place a lot more memorable than the last. The prime rib is absolutely excellent (which my wife ordered). I had the rib eye special with green beans, mashed potatoes and grilled onions. Still good, though not as good as the prime rib, but portion size was massive. Service was great also. We came during the US Open weekend (and a Macklemore free concert) so parking was very difficult to come by. We called the restaurant (since we had reservations) and they accommodated our tardiness and helped figure out spots for us to park in. Would definitely come back!

The best prime rib I've ever had. If you have one night to splurge in Vail I'd recommend Lancelot without a doubt. The service was incredible and the atmosphere was great. I will return to Lancelot's for sure.

We were running late for our anniversary dinner and showed up at Russel's at 9:40 and they wouldn't serve us. Sad and hangry, we stumbled upon this place walking back to the car. The drinks were great, the filet and crab were amazing, and the service and ambiance were excellent. I loved the cozy, intimate feel and the open- air seating. They saved our anniversary! ( and my bf's buns) :) We will definitely be back next time we're in Vail!

We all ordered The King Arthur prime rib, which was tender and delicious (cooked to perfection) the baked potato came with butter, sour cream, and chives. Hot fresh bread came out with butter. Service was great and drinks were strong! Unfortunately, we were too full for dessert.

Having lived in the Vail area for 20+ years, I went to Lancelot for the first time and had the $20 dinner special. Overall, the food, service and atmosphere were good. The host seemed a little condescending that we didn't have a reservation, but it was a Tuesday night in mid December.

Favorite place we ate in Vail. Prime rib was excellent and the prices were very reasonable for Vail Village. $20 wine bottle specials and $20 entree specials. Could of eaten here every night in hindsight.

It's off season so the town is very quite. We just stumbled upon this place. There were only about five or six other tables seated when we arrived. Very good menu selection and attentive pleasant service. Food was great. Pumpkin Ravioli was a hit. We had the French Onion Soup, Caesar Salad, Wedge salad and the Trout. All good, we'd go back if we had more time in town. Nice feel in the space.

Had dinner with my husband and 2 kids. I loved the rainbow trout with broccoli and rice pilaf. The broccoli was especially fresh and delicious. My husband had the Knight's cut prime rib which was also very good. However, my kids split a $38 New York strip steak which was more fat than meat. Also, I found the tables too close together which made for a loud meal, and service was extremely slow. Literally, we did not see our waitress for 20 minutes. The hostess cleared our plates, and we sat there forever trying to get her attention to bring us the bill.

snobby atmosphere and the food is okay not what you would expect from a 4/5 star restaurant. Overall I would rather send my money somewhere else...

Amazing prime rib topped with scallops. Service was beyond superb, drinks were good and a bit average. Decor & staff attire were appropriate to the level of restaurant and theme.

  • Peter D.

Food is okay. Decor is a little tired, seems like it is unsure of what kind of place it wants to be. Blue LED lighting around the small bar, but the rest of the restaurant looks like an older steakhouse. Good drinks. Ordered the prime rib as that is their specialty, which was pretty good for prime rib. Porblem is, in colorado with so many good cuts of meat, nobody wants prime rib... Good option, but vail has many others.

DO NOT GIVE THIS RESTAURANT YOUR BUSINESS!!!! If I could give this restaurant no star, I would. By far the WORST "service" of any dining establishment, I have EVER experienced! The manager, Ken, set aside a table for 5 for us. We went outside for a minute, while his staff was setting up our table, and he asked my brother in law if we were still dining there, because he had another guest to seat. My brother in law replied, "Give us a few minutes and we will let you know." My family sat down at the table, a couple minutes later, and Ken walks up to us and says we need to move because he's sitting another family in our spot. We were completely floored by how unprofessional and disrespectful his manner was towards us. He blatantly lied, and said we "gave him permission" to seat the other party at our table. COMPLETELY unprofessional, especially from a so-called "manager"!!!! So of course we left, and the other guests were shocked by the managers' horrific behavior. We gave our business to The Ore House instead. And even though most of their dishes were no longer available (due to the heavy Labor Day traffic), our server Susan was MORE than accommodating, and such a pleasure to work with! We will DEFINITELY eat at The Ore House in the future! BOYCOTT LANCELOT!!!!!

Go for the food, not the atmosphere. We went with a large party and I called 3 days in advance and they easily accommodated us. (no reservations means upwards of an hour wait) The bar is really minimal, and the place needs some updates. It's in a lower section and you kind of feel like your eating in the basement. The place has this dingy beige color to everything and the lighting. The bathrooms need a serious overhaul. The 'look' just does not fit in Vail. So there is no real ambiance here. But if you are into prime rib it is the place to be. All our meat was cooked to perfection, erring on the side of more rare, which is OK by me. My dad and i are low carb and they let us swap our potato for a vegetable of choice. Skip the desserts. Nearly everyone at the table ordered one and they were average to poor. i got some monstrous chocolate cake with an ice cream center and the whole thing was freezer burnt and had no taste. Service was friendly and the food came out pretty quick. Prices were acceptable for the amount and quality of food. And it was a bonus that they had enough space for our group of 7, we were not cramped at all.

We had a really nice dinner at Lancelot's. There were six of us and everyone enjoyed the meal. All the dishes were well prepared and fresh. Good wine list and great cocktails. The dishes don't have the complexity and flavors of a Sweet Basil's but good food and service.

went here on saturday with kathleen a. and a few friends. we got there and the place was packed. we had to wait a few minutes to get our seat, but otherwise the service was pretty good. we started off with some tuna sashimi and bacon wrapped scallops. the scallops were good and so was the tuna. the tuna had a nice sweet sauce and the seaweed salad was very complimentary. the scallops were cooked very nicely as well. the bf and kat got the cream of potato soup with bacon, i got a caesar salad, and linda got the spinach salad. everything was good! totally didn't need to order the salad considering all the food we were getting. the soups were very tasty. so much bacon everywhere! there seems to be a theme going on here. on to the main course. everyone got the prime rib, seeing that it was the least expensive thing on the menu. i got mine medium and it was cooked quite nicely. it was served with a baked potato on the side with sour cream and chives and, you guessed it, more bacon if you would like it. i decided to pass on the bacon cause there's just something wrong with having bacon with every course of your meal. everyone was stuffed after dinner, so we passed on dessert. we were so full no one even finished their wine! we paid, then waddled our asses back to the hotel to sleep it off.

After walking around the village looking for a decent place to have dinner, I was pleasantly surprised by with place. Great selection of wine and excellent service. The waiter told me they are known for their prime rib and he was absolutely correct. It turned out to be the best prime rib I have ever had. My girlfriend had a nice piece of crusted sea bass, which was also excellent. We had spent a weekend in Vail about 3 months before this particular visit and at the time, we had a hard time deciding where to eat. I wish I would have known about this place then. I would definitely recommend this place. If you go, get the prime rib.

This is a great steak house and their prime rib is the best thing. My family has been going here for 10 years. It is seriously pricey and to take a kid here runs $25. Honesty if you are going to spend the money head down to Lions Head and go to the Vail Chophouse (675 Lionshead Pl). There is a lovely patio and everything is top notch. I have been to almost every restaurant in Vail/Lions Head over the past 10 years and The Chophouse is my favorite.

If you go to Lancelot, expect a very heavy check. But it is SOOOOO worth it! I came here with my husband and his Grandparents, and we had such a lovely time. The Grandparents are regulars there, so a lot of the staff know them by name which I think is great! Their food is incredible. I got the clam chowder for my appetizer and that was THE BEST clam chowder I have ever had. Seriously. It was wonderful! For dinner I had the salmon. It was perfect. So declicious!! For dessert we got the apple pie and oh boy, it was sooo good! The service was incredible. They are so attentive and kind. I think it is kind of funny that if your glass is empty and you have your bottle of wine or sparking water sitting right next to you, they go out of their way to refill your glass. I thought it was so kind of them to do that. I could have done it myself, but I think its great that they are there and so happy to be there for you. Love, love, love Lancelot.

Lancelot's was quite possibly one of the best meals I have had in a while. From beginning to end, I was left wanting more and more, but my stomach wouldn't allow it. The money dish here is definitely the prime rib, but we also ordered off the special menu and it did not disappoint. We started off with some great apps, the French onion soup, and the Coconut shrimp. The shrimp were crispy and tender, and the onion soup was loaded with onions. As good as the apps were, I was looking forward to the main course. I had the surf and turf with crab legs that consisted of a 10oz cut of meat with 3 (I think...might have been 4) crab legs. The crab legs were opened already, and served with drawn butter. Normally I would go with the scallops, but once I was told the legs were opened already, I went for those. They are delicious and cooked perfectly. Not rubbery in the least. The dish was served with a baked potato and all the fixings (bacon, butter, sour cream), and a delicious horseradish sauce. I was heaven for roughly 15 minutes when the last piece of meat went down. It didn't stand a chance. The prime rib was a perfect medium, and was as tender as you can imagine. The grouper was just as delicious, and it was enjoyed. We tried the home-made strudel and it was a decent way to end the meal. We left stuffed and happy. The prime rib wins top honors though!

This is the first time I've ever eaten at the same place two nights in a row. Great food and service made that happen.

A very old school style restaurant. Here you're better off sticking with the classics. French Onion soup? Very good. Caesar Salad? Okay. Prime Rib roast? Pretty good. While you're at it, might as well order a cocktail from the bar. For Vail, this place is pretty good value. However, it's not hip or cool if that's what you're looking for.

This is a must visit when you come to Vail. Escargot was just ok. However the scallops were excellent, and last but not least the King Arthur's cut prime rib was outstanding. This is the house speciality and it is truly noteworthy. The service was exceptional, our server was attentive, and most importantly the dishes came quickly and totally accurate.

I've been coming here for at least 20 years, and my parents, even longer. One of my mother's favorite stories involves the Lancelot--which apparently used to have fried chicken on the menu, and being a nice Southern woman, she decided to order it, to which the waiter tactfully replied..."really, are you sure you want to do that?". She progressed, and needless to say, ordered the prime rib or fish ever year thereafter. Like several of the restaurants in Vail that have been here for a while, it needs an update--it's dark, stodgy, and the food is now mediocre at best. If your with your grandmother, it's not a bad bet. The menu is comfortable, easy to navigate, and uninventive. They really went wild when they added a tuna sashimi to the menu, which when juxtaposed to the prime rib and escargot seems to be a bit of a farce. The meat will be as dependably good as it has been since it opened its doors 40 years ago, and the fish, is reliably good as well. The fried chicken on the other hand, take a pass.

This place is fantastic! All class. The food is great while being reasonably priced. I'll be back next time I'm in Vail. If you are able to request a waitress, ask for Marja. She is a hard worker who is always smiling. Thanks again!

Dined with a large party over the Christmas holiday. Lancelot is still about the basics, mainly prime rib. Dont experiment. Service pleasant. Wine list limited with mostly modest wines--it needs work. Tables near windows offer a nice view and a cold draft.

I've been here a few times this past year and each time the prime rib has been amazing. I haven't ventured to anything else on the menu b/c the prime rib is just too good to pass up. Highly recommend.

Out towner and we were trying to find someplace to eat. Saw a lot of people dining in so we try Lancelot. I had there cab steak and scrimp combination. The wife had scrimp linguini and both dishes were good. i did enjoyed the clam chowder it was lite and good. The only issue I had was we didn't make a reservation , but we were put in a dungeon away from the main dining area. I saw a lot of open table even though I didnt have a reservation. Overall , I would say they have good quality food and bit pricey on what there serving.

Excellent quaint restaurant Husband and I spent the night at Vail and were delighted with the Lancelot Restaurant. Excellent food and service. Prime Rib and Salmon were outstanding. A bit disappointed with the first round of martini's, but the second round (mango) were a better selection. I would expect fresh fruit martini's at a restaurant of this quality instead of flavored vodka, but the food, service and ambiance make it an exceptional evening. we did not have reservations on a Thursday night, but they were able to squeeze us in. I would recommend reservations

This place has an old-school dining kinda experience to it. Probably because they haven't make any renovations since the 60's, but don't be fooled-the food was pretty damn tasty. Had a few friends in town and we decided to do a nice sit-down dinner here. One of the first things I realized was how much this place loved to serve bacon. We started off things with bacon-wrapped scallops. I've never had this combo before but will definitely have it again. I mean..bacon-wrapped (insert random food here) is usually pretty good. I ordered a soup as well..cream of potato which just happened to have..more bacon in it. Ordered the prime rib for my main course as this is their specialty and it was the cheapest thing on the menu ($19.95 for prime rib and baked potato). Now, I'm not a big prime rib eater and I probably should have ordered something else because it's not my favorite cut of meat, but it was fairly decent minus the fatty parts, however, it seemed a little too rare for my tastes even though I asked for it to be cooked medium. I'll definitely be back-next time I can probably just order soup and an appetizer and be pretty satisfied. Or maybe I'll splurge and get the filet mignon next time.

So, where in Vail do you find perfectly cooked and delicious generous portion prime rib steaks? Lancelot ----- This restaurant located next to Gore Creek is apparently well known for their prime rib steaks. The restaurant is very inviting and the service is excellent. You have the option to sit outside facing the creek or inside, but due to the cool and windy weather that day, I opted to dine inside. I went with the King Arthur's cut cooked medium rare with baked potato on the size. The steak was juicy and perfectly cooked and the addition of butter, sour cream with fresh chives and bacon bits to the baked potato made it amazingly delicious. You also have the option to add to the side some in house-made horseradish which complimented very well my steak. I totally recommend this restaurant.

As I write this, I'm noticing I give a lot of 5-stars. Maybe it's cause I'm easy to please? Or maybe it's cause I eat only at YUM YUM restaurants? Regardless, Lancelot has definitely need to be a 5-Star. So good. Walking in, my group had little reservations on whether or not we should stay. We were quite casual and the place looks pretty swank. However, the hosts and waiters were more than friendly and didn't make anyone feel uncomfortable. Now the food....so good. I had the Surf and Turf which consisted of prime rib and crab legs. Prime rib was cooked to my liking and the crab legs were broken and served in the shell (amazing, right?). The baked potato was dressed table side, and he was very generous (thumbs up!). And the dipping butter must have had crack in it. I'd drink that thing whole if I was invisible to cholesterol. Now come here only if you're ready to spend some money. Not OUTRAGEOUSLY priced, but it ain't no value menu either.

Food is quite boring -comparable to hearing a story told by your grandmother for the 60th time. Lancelot refresed their ambience; trying to be innovative with the new menu and contemporary in decor. Nevertheless, new lighting fixtures and table cloths can't fix the root of their underlying problems (limited options on beverage and entre menu & in general the bland cusine). To begin, the surf was good turf not...horrible beer selection and no vodka red bulls...If i am snowboarding all day, vodka & redbull is a great pick-me-up! Also, the hot totties need to increase in size . However, our waiter Julius was fab. Lancelot does have great serivice, however, service and cusine should go hand in hand.

Had the Pomegranate Martini, petite Filet Special (asparagus and red potato) and a starter salad. Others in the group had the prime rib and surf/turf. Everyone was very happy with their food. The service was a bit slow. Drinks came quickly, bread and salad quickly, but meals came after people around us that arrived later received their meals. Food was excellent. Salad was very fresh. Steak was cooked perfectly. Potatoes and veggies also cooked perfectly and quite tasty. Prime rib was very good...those that ordered it were very pleased. Atmosphere very nice. Patio area was full, but doors were open and fresh air came in the entire restaurant. Very nice feel to this restaurant.

Beware the steak restaurant that has prime rib as its signature dish. I had the rib eye, which was done correctly but was certainly nothing special. My wife had the cab and shrimp combo, and the cab steak was simply inedible. There was no way you could actually chew and swallow a piece of this steak. They were nice enough to switch it out for some prime rib (again done well, but not exceptional). I can't imagine that we would go back here again, but the fine service provided in the face of a bad meal brings them up to 2 stars.

Best prime rib in the world. Period. Priced fairly and you get a lot to eat. Comes with sour cream, butter, and real bacon bits. Bread rolls are hot and incredible. I have never had anything other than the prime rib after over 100 meals here. I'm a local. My only suggestion is that they don't include salads with the meal. Werner is only the second owner in 40 years in business.

Excellent prime rib and fantastic desserts. (Have had the pasta previously -- also very good.) Yes, it's pricy - but that's pretty much standard in Vail! Service was very good; ambiance relaxing and warm. If you want a bar scene, this definitely isn't it. Go here for a classy dinner or romantic evening.

My expectations for dining in Vail were pretty low having had overpriced, clumsily prepared meals there in the past. But I have found a gem of a restaurant in the Lancelot. They are apparently well known for their slow roasted prime rib and have been serving up generous portions of it for nearly 40 years now. Their King Arthur's cut (12 oz./ $25.95) was just wonderful. It was perfectly prepared at medium rare. It was wonderfully thick, yet tender and almost buttery in taste. I highly recommend this selection. The accompanying baked potato was served with sour cream and chives, and I was happy to taste fresh chives which really transformed what would otherwise have been a staid side choice. For dessert, I had the warm brownie which was served with vanilla bean ice cream, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream. Fairly basic in preparation and presentation, it was good but not memorable. In way of drinks, I was disappointed that their selection of wines by the glass was very narrow and not very good overall. They do have an option of premium wines by the glass, but that was not available during my visit do to it being the low season. As a result I did discover a fairly good microbrew, the 1554. The service was rather good. I was particularly pleased with the enthusiasm and sincerity of my waiter, and he seemed to be pretty well versed on the menu. Overall I really enjoyed my time here. The prices were very reasonable with many entrees at only $20. The ambience was laid back, but the quality did not suffer as a result. Recommend! Trust me, you could do much, much worse in Vail.

This place is known for their prime rib, and there, they do not really disappoint. It is hard to ruin prime rib, though their recipe is lacking a bit in cooked in flavor. I compare to places that I routinely go to for prime rib such as The Keg from my home town. I had the Surf and Turf, which instead of lacerating the crab leg shell, they cut all the way through it pre-cooking, which made the crab meat far less enjoyable. The evening special they had that night was quite good (Coconut Crusted Chilean Sea Bass)...I would even rate things much better based on this dish; but, the service simply wasn't there either. The server spoke to us a total of 5 times over the course of two hours. Our wine glasses had to be sipped to the last drop before a refill. There were large wait times in between courses with no server contact or check-in. For the prices they charge (around $300 for two for a full course meal and reasonably priced wine), I expect at least great service or great food. Their food was not spectacular, though for the most part not disappointing either (except the crab), but I can get far better service at a dive bar back home in Texas.

This is a spot where you'll see plenty of locals in the off-season, and to me that's a good thing. This isn't a light fare place, but they have great steaks and German dishes. When I think of this spot, I think of comfort food, done impeccably. Strange architectural location, as you have to enter above and go down the steps. But it's been there forever so it must have been set up the only way it could have been built, long ago. Good wait staff, and they really do want to see you again - and treat you that way, with European manners!

The food is good, but not extraordinary. We started with the breaded brie, which was quite yummy. My husband ordered the new york strip, which was quite flavorful, but nothing to write home about. I ordered the steak and shrimp. The steak portion is a cab steak, which was described to have the tenderness of a top sirloin. While it had a nice flavor, it was the toughest, chewiest cut of beef I have ever had. The wait staff was very accommodating and quickly replaced it with a prime rib. The prime rib was good, but again, not better than any other similarly priced prime rib joint. We have been to many fine restaurants on this trip to Denver and Vail, and this is the first one we do not care to patronize a second time. I wanted to like it, but it's just a prime rib place, which IMHO is not the best cut of meat and should be a sign of the restaurant caliber when that is the "signature".

The resturant was suggested to my group by a young person we meet on the Vail bus ..... what good taste that young man has ... in our party of 4, three persons had the trout and I had salmon ... an excelent meal in a lovely setting & the service was very good ...

Loved the food, attentive service, and they were running a $20 dollar entree and 20% off bottles of wine, which was a great deal especially in Vail.

This is a time when I wish Yelp did half stars. I really want to give them 3.5 stars. 3 just seems too ehh... but I didn't think the food was good enough to warrant a 4. If you like German wine, this is the place to go. We had two bottles, one red and one white, of really excellent German wine. The service is great, at least the waiter we had... a shame I can't remember his name. Eh, unless his boss reads Yelp and would have given him a raise, I guess it doesn't matter. Now, onto the food. I started off with the spinach salad, which was great. I love spinach, and spinach with bacon? Wait, anything with bacon?? I'll put in my mouth. No, I take that back, I tried bacon mints once, and it was disgusting. Sorry, I digress. Back to the food. Their specialty is prime rib so that was what I ordered. It was a good size portion and a good cut, and nicely cooked. However, the tastiest part was the pure horseradish I put on it. And the salt and pepper. I cannot recall another time where I had to put salt and pepper on prime rib. It was a good cut of meat, but it just wasn't flavored well. Good prime rib is supposed to have been roasted for hours so the seasoning on the crust really infuses the meat. The crust was good... the inside.. eh. I might as well have killed my own cow and sat there and ate it straight. I guess I've just had better prime rib elsewhere, so this was just ok. It is definitely reasonably priced though, which is a definite plus. On another note, it was about 80 degrees inside the restaurant. I was dying - I wanted to undress, but that would have been inappropriate. So, wear layers if you do come here so you can take off or add layers accordingly.

In regards to the comment prior to this one I must say in response to the comment about the "restaurant should reflect the caliber of food served," I must be candid and point out that the Vail Village possesses an authentic old German architectural setting. Lancelot's menu has not changed, but slightly minor over the years. With that said, seniors constantly say the food taste the same as it has since the early 70's. If the food is great, who cares about "old school" decor. Where else can you find the owner carefully preparing tasty roasted prime rib behind the line in the kitchen? Many of Vail's visitors ski that mountain and travel from Denver BECAUSE of Lancelots existence and fabulous CONSISTENCY. Take note, Shiho.

The prime rib at The Lancelot Restaurant was excellent, the french onion soup was delicious, and the service was outstanding. We took advantage of an earlybird special which The Lanceloy featured a complimentary entree with the purchase of a bottle of wine if seated prior to 6pm, and that proved to be an exceptional value. Our prime rib dinner at the Lancelot Restaurant was 5-star fabulous.

Excellent menu - we had trouble deciding on what to get so ended up splitting 3 appetizers (escargots, butternut squash bisque, mussels) between the 2 of us. I'm glad we did because, much like a parent of 3 can't imagine what life would be life without one of their children, I cannot imagine our night with only 2 of the above appetizers. Filet mignon was amazing, which was expected given our location, however being from cattle country myself, I wasn't expecting it to be THAT good. Veal ambrosia was phenomenal. We didn't make it to dessert but that was not due to lackluster effort on our part. Good food value overall plus the wine list includes some very reasonably priced reds. With a bottle of Mondavi cab ($50?) plus all of the food listed above, bill with tax and tip was $150. Service was VERY good and I am somewhat of a stickler in that category. Outdoor seating area is great; can't comment on indoor dining area but it was packed from 9-10pm on a Saturday. We'll definitely be back.

Prime rib is their speciatly so I got the King Arthur's Cut 12oz and had side of garlic mashed potatos which were topped with fried onions instead of the baked potato. My mother was fighting off the stomach flu so she opted for the Spinach Salad and Tomato Basil soup. The sald looked wilted and saturated with dressing but the soup looked appetizing. I would go again for the prime rib but the decor is a bit outdated and too old school for my taste. I think the atmosphere of a restaurant should reflect the caliber of food served.

My second time ever eating at Lancelot in Vail. Started off on the wrong foot... we showed up and they were super busy. The matridee took FOREVER to seat us. We had a reservation for 2 at 8 oclock, the matridee actually sat a group of 3 without a reservation who walked in behind us before us... talk about being in the weeds mr host. Once we were sat though, everything was perfect. Service was excellent, food was beyond excellent, and they had a great 20-20 special going. I had the shrimp and steak dish, it was the perfect amount of food and very very good. I noticed the drab 3 star reviews here that mention the lack of ambiance. I agree it was bad last season but I will note they just redid the whole place in the summer so its looking much better now. reccomended!

Excellent prime rib plus baked potato but other entrees only fine not great. Service was very good and they have a solid wine list. Caesar salad was good, onion soup was a bit disappointing. Overall we'll be back because this is a real place that treats you well and is a good prime rib experience.
