I give this place 5 stars for 5 reasons: 1. This is ironically amazing Mexican food - the salsa you can tell was home made and not some can glop 2. Everything... including the sea bass was flavorful - super well balanced... Margaritas had great flavor 3. Hearty portion sizings (but not too ridiculous) 4. A view of the Gondola to die for 5. Tiffany - our midwestern server was simply delightful, super helpful, and gave great recommendations.

Our server completely forgot about my date's drink order. The guacamole tasted exactly like it came out of a package. The steak in my fajita dish was over-cooked... But, other than that it was A-OK. Alright, I wasn't impressed by the food or the service but the location is great and the outdoor seating by the gondola is more appealing to me than the high-traffic restaurant patios in the resort core. Also, the prices were very reasonable, so that's a plus! Note: El Sabor does not have their own bathrooms... you'll have to make a trip downstairs.

I ordered a salad. It had wilted lettuce and wasn't fresh. Tried my friends tacos that were nothing special either. Servers were friendly and responsive. You would think a restaurant owner would take a little more pride in their food being at the base of Vail Mountain. I don't spend a lot of time in Lionshead, but I could see this place as a good Après ski.

Waited for 45 minutes- they forgot about our food. Waitress was rude when we asked and never came back to fill up our drinks. When the food finally came it was good but cold. Update: the manager reached out to us and apologized for the poor service. Appears that a combination of additional tables and new service was the reason for all of our problems. Next time we are in Vail, we will give them another try.

The food was great and the price is very reasonable. We had great service as well. Although the chips and salsa are not free, they are worth the $5. They have refilled out chips and the green salsa is very good. We also shared the steak fajitas. The meat was fantastic. It was well seasoned, very tender and cooked to our ask of medium. We did not drink here but the drinks looked good. I am normally against eating at a hotel restaurant, but this place is worth it. They have a couple tvs playing football and the patio view is great. Give this place a try!

Stopped in for a drink while waiting for my wife to finish at a conference. Enjoyed great company from locals and conversation with Sean the bartender was nice. Had a lot of fun. And like most places, if you treat your servers with respect and kindness, you will in return get quality service and product.

Inexpensive Mexican food that is literal right across from the Gondola. Love their Happy Hour Magaritas!

Gorgeous view and a decent margarita, but the food left something to be desired. Our combo plates were not well put together, sub par refried beans, and kinda pricey. Our waiter was super nice and we enjoyed sitting outside, but definitely not a go-to mexican spot.

El Sabor has a five star view of the Gondola and Ski Runs. In a touristy ski town, that's like gold, people! It's convenient to ski-in or walk in from Lionshead Village, too. All we need now is some good grub. And we've got it. We had lunch here, sampled the burritos and a couple of their taco plates. All came with Spanish Rice and Refried Beans topped with crumbled Queso Fresco. So Good! My Fish Tacos, however, stood out from the rest. Fried Mahi-Mahi, Cabbage, and Steamed Corn Tortillas. It's like fancy street tacos, in the best way possible. Their chips and salsas were also a hit, what seem like house-fried flour tortilla chips and three varieties of spiced salsas, Roja, Tomatillo Verde, and CALIENTE! (The caliente was definitely HOT!) But what made me glow with happiness was their Mole Sauce. I'd been craving it for awhile, so I asked them to bring me a side of it just for kicks. Man, I positively LICKED that side dish clean. Their Mole had hints of the 30+ ingredients it takes to make a good Mole, with the strengths in this one being Adobo Chipotle, Chocolate, Raisins, and... Whatever the Mexican term for Umami was. I slopped that Mole on everything. Spanish rice? Drizzled with Mole. Refried Beans? Dunk 'em right in on the way to my mouth. Tortilla Chips? Hell yes! Fish Tacos? Yup, even those. As the Man said in his review: Skip the iced tea and opt instead for a cold beer. Killer Views, Accommodating Service, and Great Food? El Sabor es Muy Bueno. Que Rico!

This was our first visit to Vail for lunch. After doing some extensive research for a scenic inexpensive lunch spot in Vail, we decided on El Sabor located in the Lions Square Lodge next to the base of the Eagle Bahn gondola in Lionshead Village. The view out the window looks out at the mountain and Gore Creek. There were 2 entrances to the restaurant. One entrance was going through the Lions Square Lodge which had scaffolding all around the building. The other entrance was to dodge skiiers coming down the hill over the bridge and to walk on the snow to the outside entrance. The menu prices have actually gone down and were reasonable for Vail. The website menu needs to be updated to reflect the new lower prices. The $3.25 A La Carte menu needs to be posted on the outside of the restaurant, so skiiers can get a quick bite to eat. They have A La Carte Street Tacos, Gringo Tacos, Tostadas, Tamales, Rellenos, and Enchiladas. The dinner entrees range from $15-22. We ordered Guacamole and Chips ($7). The guacamole had some brown streaks, like it had been stirred. It was tasteless even though there were pieces of red onion and tomato. The avocado was probably mixed with mayonaise or something to stretch it and make it watery. The chips were thick and crisp. We didn't finish the chips or the guacamole. My husband ordered 2 A La Carte Tamales for $3.25 each. He had a Pork Tamale with Verde Sauce and a Chicken Tamale with Roja Sauce. He liked the chicken one better. They also offer a plate of 2 tamales with rice and beans for $11. I ordered the Tacos Al Sabor Plate which came with rice and beans for $10. I could have ordered the 3 tacos for $3.25 each, but for .25 more I got rice and beans. There were 3 white corn tortillas with chopped white onion, cilantro, avocado, cabbage, carnitas, and fresh lime wedges. There were no tomatoes or pico de gallo on it. The tacos were average sized tacos, not like the typical 2-bite street tacos in Denver. The refried beans tasted burned. The rice was okay. We would definitely come back for the views and for the A La Carte menu.

Great place to get your mexican fix, great Margs and food and the locaton is great as well. This place seems to very big with the locals. Service was fast and freindly. The size of the toca salad I have was to big to finish, can't complain. The Margs where a nice size but I would say that the drinks you get int a bar are never big enough. Very clean as well as the restrooms. The only thing that is kinda tuff is waking from the parking structure, no parking on site but walking along the Vail is not all that bad anytime of year.

Great food, the view is incredible and the jalapeño margarita and ginger margarita is like nothing I try before. They have good pisco and I also recommend the pisco sour. All around a good experience.

A new comer to Vail & owned by "Garfinkel", they need a little work starting by eliminating the mussy beans & sticky rice. I had the Chicken Mole which had great flavor, a little spicy & generous portion. My husband had the Chicken Fajitas which he really enjoyed (except for the rice & beans) & the Relleno also very good. I did not enjoy the Cactus salad, the texture was bad, taste unremarkable & it was served on a huge portion of lettuce, not good. With a few tweaks this restaurant could be good.

After replacing the previous joint, Mezzaluna, I of course had to try this place out. It has a perfect location right at the bottom of the gondola with sweet, sweet views of the mountain. Even though I have only been here a few times I would definitely recommend this place to others. I'll have to admit the constant advertising for this place was a put-off (garfinkles handed flyers out for this place every, single, time!) so I avoided it initially. But after getting to try some of the food and witnessing the atmosphere, I am a fan. My first visit was around Dec-14 and we popped in for a pint and rest. Got some chips which came with 3 different salsas to try. Pretty awesome they offered this kind of variety and I really liked 2/3 salsas. If I recall, the 3rd was a little spicy but I'm a wuss. Service was great, responsive, and catered to the needs of the patrons. We let time pass and beer settle while enjoying the views before moving on to more riding. The next time I made it here was for a work Holiday Party. They cornered off the West section of the restaurant (opposite the bar) and provided us with great service. Servers were around consistently taking food and drink orders from a sometimes demanding crowd. Food was good, not the best, but I really enjoyed it. From a gathering stand point, the atmosphere was not conducive to a "Party" function. It essentially felt like we had a big group at a restaurant (which it was of course) and not a party. We had our tables and food but it lacked any privacy for a group. The last thing that certainly wasn't the restaurants fault was the construction at Lions Square Lodge. A bunch of construction idiots were still cutting stone down for an incomplete walkway on the outside of the building...DURING CHRISTMAS! Talk about laughable. All in all I will certainly be back to this place for more dining and drinks.

Not looking to pay $30 an entree while visiting Vail? El Sabor was a great change of pace for us! You get a lot of food for a great price and the drinks are cheap too! My mom and I ate there on a Saturday night (in June) and our bill was around $45 after tax and tip. We even each had a drink! The special that night was 15% off entrees and 1/2 of glasses of house wine. $15 (before 15% off): Carnitas with three flour taco shells, guacamole, pico de gallo, lettuce, rice, and beans of your choice. $10: Pick two: chicken enchilada with red sauce and carnitas taco with cheese; also came with rice and beans $7 each: tequila sunrise, glass of sangria The one downside was there was no free chips and salsa like many Mexican restaurants provide, but hey, you're in Vail. Great food, low price! Definitely worth checking out, if for nothing else, the cheap drinks!

The nachos were delicious, we had shredded pork on ours. $3, name your drink is a heckuva deal (they offer this on Sundays only. I had the snapper, was kind of tough and fishy in my opinion, but what can I expect in the middle of the mountains? The service was decent too. Not bad overall for the money.

What good San Diegan wouldn't feel the pull to a Mexican restaurant after two days of being away? Yeah, that's what I thought. Add to that the fact that the prices are ACTUALLY SEMI REASONABLE (in Vail, this is an instant win) and it was a stone's throw from the Marriott and I was there. I ordered the snapper, which came in at $19. Yes, expensive, but they aren't exactly going to find snapper on their own at 11,000 feet. Fair enough, I thought, especially since I don't eat poultry or meat any more. Otherwise I probably would've stuck with the a la carte menu. Anyway, back to the snapper. It was HUGE! The fish was a little enthusiastically charred, but once I removed the overly crispy bits it was yummy, and it came with nice, snappy, lemony asparagus and rice and beans. Very tasty! The guac and chips weren't too much to write home about, but again, this is a place where it's hard to find the stuff that makes good guac. My little sister liked her quesadilla, and the service was very attentive. They looked like they had some really yummy margaritas, so all of you fellow tequila junkies can get your fix here. Rating is adjusted for location--in San Diego this likely would've received a three. But for Vail, it was something refreshing, and I had a lovely time here--I will probably be back tomorrow for breakfast!

Located next to the base of the Eagle Bahn gondola in Lions Square, this Latin-style restaurant sports a fantastic scenic view of Vail mountain and overlooks the heated pool below, There's also a full bar here so you can kick back and relax. We came for lunch and the proportions were awfully generous to say the least. The burritos are excellent. The iced tea, however, tasted like watered coffee as it was immediately apparent they used the wrong filter. When we brought this to the attention of the owner/manager he was very pleasant and acknowledged that we weren't the first to complain about the coffee flavor (apparently the grounds had become trapped in the spouts and still lingered) and that he just wasn't going to serve iced tea anymore but really just have the spouts thoroughly cleaned and sanitized and you're good to go. I'd definitely eat here again, but maybe next time hold the iced tea.

Was hoping to enjoy a nice view with good food tonight with my family. Tonight all I had was a great view.. Took forever for our server to get around to us and when he did I asked for iced tea they didn't have any.. Took forever to get the food. When we got our food we had chicken and pork on our plates and it was dry.. To the point it was crunchy...I would of asked to see a manager but everyone was goofing off not doing their jobs.. I figured there not a manager on duty.. As a local I never write bad about restaurant but tonight I had to... I have worked in restaurants all my life by far this was the worst I have ever been to.

It's hard to find really good mexican food in Vail.... Tostada, chicken- the chicken was completely dry. I don't even think it was warm It was like last night's rotisserie chicken Trio Taco, one asada, one pork, one chicken- the only good taco on this plate was the pork. Asada and chicken were both dry and unseasoned!! I wouldn't come back here.

We went there this summer and it was a fantastic experience. The wait staff was attentive and courteous. The food was great. I had tamales for 'tamale Tuesday.' The tomatillo sauce was very good as were the tamales. Great salsa. I would recommend this restaurant for Mexican while in Vail.

Just finished dinner here. Was really blown away. First off, let me mention that this is Vail, and not a mexican village, mexican town, or NYC... If this place was in my hometown I'd probably give it 4/5, but for Vail it's as good as it gets. Chips are solid, very thick and fresh. The other mexican place I reviewed in vail sucks compared to El Sabor. Guacamole was very good as well. I had the Tres Chiles and it was excellent. Was served on a very hot plate, and had great flavor and kick. They make their own hot salsa which is very very good! My wife had the kitchen burrito, and it looked pretty standard (typical tex-mex); she was happy. My mom ordered the Chicken Enchiladas and she loved the chicken. It was moist and has a great flavor. The chicken seemed to be pressure cooked but we weren't sure. Location is really nice. We sat at a corner table and had a view of the gondola and mountain. I would strongly recommend to anyone visiting Vail. Prices are great as well and they do run dinner specials. The interior is nice, quality tables and chairs. The bar is nice, good space and feel overall. There is a patio which I'm sure it's nice when it's not 10 degrees outside. Again, this place definitely has a 5 star location and considering it's vail it's 5/5 food considering value/quality/etc. If this place was in my hometown it would still be a 4/5 and honestly it beats out most of the mexican places at home except for the authentic mexican dive spots. (however my Tres Chiles was the real deal...) (also our service was very good for any standards, which is saying a lot for vail)

A very nice venue to grab some good Mexican food that isn't overly priced in pricey Vail, Colorado. Service was great, and food was excellent. I had the Miguel's enchilada's and my wife had the Carnitas off the dinner menu. The chips and salsa were good, and there's a great view near the gondola.

Fantastic nachos and $3 drink specials. The snapper was good too, although my husband thought it was a liitle tough. The service was just ok.

I was so disappointed in this place. It is in a fantastic location. Too bad they don't put a bit more energy in the food / ambiance. The service was less than mediocre. Until the bartender realized we were friends with someone he knew and then it got better. But until that he had a terrible chip on his shoulder. As if we were a bother. The food was greasy and unremarkable. Such a disappointment! I live in Vail and would love to have a great mexican place to frequent that isn't overly expensive. But this won't be the place.

Love this place, wandered over drunk and left even more drunk. Get the cucumber margarita on a hot day and try not to fill up on the chips. This spot goes to grueling ends to provide you with authentic Mexican taste. Server was awesome and made sure to amplify our experience. Enjoy!

The people who have left prior reviews over 1 star must be the employees of the restaurant. If there was an option for 0 stars, that's what I would rate it. I've never written a review before, but we chose this restaurant based on Yelp reviews...Unfortunately. First, we sat ourselves at a table by the window. We were one of two occupied tables in the entire restaurant (this should have been a sign) at 7:00 p.m. We ordered chips and guacamole. Instead, the waiter brought us chips and salsa (another sign). For dinner, our party of 3 ordered carne asada enchiladas, chicken enchiladas, and chicken tacos. This was BY FAR the WORST Mexican food I have EVER had anywhere. The "carne asada" and chicken looked and tasted like it had been prepared at 8:00 a.m. and warmed up several times throughout the day before it was put on our plates. The chicken tasted like plastic. I was not brave enough to try the carne asada, but my dad, who was starving, took two bites and stopped eating. The refried beans were hard, stuck to the plate, and therefore inedible. The rice was even worse. All of the employees are teenagers. They have no idea what they are doing, and they certainly have never looked at the menu. We had questions before ordering, such as "does the meal come with white rice or yellow rice?" The response from our waiter was, and I quote: "It's more of a reddish brown." Great! PLEASE do yourself a favor and skip this place. Take the 10 minute drive to Edwards, CO and eat at Fiestas. The food is considerably better.

Probably the best value in Vail. The entire dinner for a family of four with a margarita and a beer with tax was $34. And the food was good too. I had the fish tacos that are on special for Wednesdays. Rest of the family had tacos and burritos off the a la carte menu. For a few dollars they give you a big burrito. The only issue was that the sauce on the burrito was a little too spicy for my son. They also charge for the chips and salsa that most Mexican places don't charge for. Service was good and there is a beautiful view of the mountain. Finally a place in Vail that offers good food without costing the price of a lift ticket.

Chilli Rellenos were awesome, went back for more the next day for lunch. One of the best meals I had while skiing. Wide selection of tequila, and really good happy hour prices. Wide menu selection with items not typically seen on mid level Mexican food spots. Really hard to find with all the construction going on, but well worth the search.

Carne Asada Burrito with salsa verde for 3.25. Yes, 3.25 slopeside in vail. Oh yeah, it's delicious. Eat here.

Nice little place. Burrito prices are the best deal in Vail. I think they were like $3.25 and worth every penny!! So considering the good deal we got we stopped back for drinks a few times just because we were happy to find such a good deal in Vail. Thanks!

Stopped by for dinner and was happy with my experience. El Sabor is tucked away with a view of the mountain and creek next to the Eagle Bahn gondola. The decor is no frills with a generic outdoor balcony and more of a Mexican theme indoors. To put that in context, I am currently writing this review to a Caribbean jam album playing over their speakers. Service was slow enough for me to write this while waiting for my check (quiet night too), but the staff was friendly. I opted for the three item combo, reasonably priced. The food tasted fresh and was very flavorful. The pollo tamale was my favorite of the three. Definitely recommend checking this place out. Not so much for the ambiance, but for the quality and reasonable prices.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
