Heaven Dragon Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

We have been ordering from HD for at least 10 or 15 years having lived in Thornton for 20 plus years. We decided to order supper from them last night. That was a mistake. We ordered the Vietnamese egg rolls. We threw most of that away. My wife and I shared a plate of orange chicken. Nothing special. This restaurant has a quite a following in our area and at one time the food was deserving of its popularity. After the meal we had last night I would say that their run is coming to an end.

We used to live near Heaven Dragon and moved away a few years ago. We are completely ruined for Chinese food. No where we have tried since then even comes close to Heaven Dragon. The owner is super friendly and usually walks around to greet customers. We stop there every time we are in the vicinity it's that good.

Lunch is always a great deal. I usually order the black mushroom beef. The food is always good, hot and more than I need. Yes the servers always seem rushed sometimes even robotic, but it's nothing out of the ordinary many Asian places seem that way. Besides the place is packed every time I go there I doubt there is ever a slow time to go there. The posters showing various heads of state are interesting if you ask the owner about the back story. It's his brag wall showing all the important people he's cooked for. That's a vote of confidence for me if a President trusts this guy for dinner then I think I can too.

We are regulars at this place and have been for 13+ years. We have never been disappointed with food. It's always amazing. The owner Dan is always very kind and the staff is always nice!

We have been eating here for years and years, we always order it to go and eat at home. The food is delicious, and honestly it is the only restaurant Chinese food that I will even bother to eat. Their chicken is real chicken and it is always moist and delicious. The staff is incredibly friendly and the orders are always right. Try the General Tso's chicken, spicy and yummy!

The best Chinese food in Colorado. Only down side is they don't deliver but it is worth going out to pick it up. I recommend going for lunch. Prices are much lower and they give a great portion for lunch.

Tuesday takeout.... what a waste. I thought I'd try this place out again after a few years off and I decided to go with the Beef Chow fun. I was so excited to see they added this to their menu but let me tell you... this is easily the WORST chow fun I've ever had in my life. The noodles were obviously old. (From the texture and firmness, I would guess 3+ days in the fridge, old) The beef was okay but whatever corn starch/flour mixture they tried to use on the beef ended up all over the noodles and made them grainy... and when I say "noodles" i should really say blocks. My SO says, "maybe they had an off day"... true maybe they had an off day. I can't imagine any chef/cook proud of their work would allow that atrocity to leave their kitchen. I'm so disappointed.

I think Heaven Dragon is easily the best Chinese food in the area. I really like the atmosphere inside the restaurant too. Very traditional classy Chinese restaurant. Wish they had delivery.

Not a bad restaurant at all.. (Especially if a former president chooses it) but I don't know if I would swear by their chicken. It's good but not great, as is most Chinese food in the area. Although, mixed altogether in a giant stir fry type meal.. You will most certainly enjoy yourself!

Why does no one say anything about how dirty this place is???!! Years of caked up dust everywhere and the carpet is disgusting..looks like its never been vacuumed. It just makes me wonder how dirty the kitchen is if they can't clean the dinning room. Even the tables and chairs are falling apart and barely held together with visible old yellow glue. We questioned even leaving before ordering but we wanted to give the place a chance. The food was mediocre...we ordered General Tso chicken and Beef lo mean with the dinner special. Got hot and sour soup with an egg roll and wonton... everything was just okay...nothing great. But the whole time I couldn't stop thinking about how dirty this place was yet no one seems to notice. I was terrified to even see what the restrooms would look like. Service was not friendly at all..server was rude and rushed, never refilled drinks and seemed like we were bothering her. The owner never stopped by our table like other reviewers said and looked like he had just rolled out of bed. Needless to say, after reading all the Yelp reviews we were excited to finally find a good chinese restaurant... but we were highly disappointed and will not be returning. We wound up throwing out the leftovers on the way home because of how disgusted we were with the atmosphere. I couldn't even bring myself to order takeout after seeing this place. I would not recommend this place AT ALL and would be embarrassed to bring anyone here. I just can't believe no one else has mentioned the cleanliness. PS....Who cares about the so-called GOP decor, Clean the place!! BTW what is GOP decor anyways???!! Just cuz there are pictures??? I saw Hillary Clinton on the wall too people!!

Walked in, and was met by a Guy at the Register whit a bad attitude. He said he was the Manager. He looked as if he was ready to kill someone like he was mad at the world. I was seated and met by my waitress, who seemed very impatient with me and did not want to wait for me to look at the menu. I told her it was my first time in the restaurant and need a second to look at the menu. She said ok well I have others to wait on. She did come back in about 15mins and asked if I made up my mind. On the menu was a special with Sesame Chicken and Lo-Mein I told the waitress I wanted Sesame Beef, but instead of rice I would like the Lo-Mein that comes on the special. She stated cant do that. I said why not. She said Lo-Mein only on the special. To hard to make Lo-Mein for regular order. I said how can that be? you make it for special correct. She said yes but only for special. I said look I do not care how much it cost I want Sesame Beef, with a side of Lo-Mein. She sad no. I said ok then never mind I got up went to the register, and asked for the Manager. The Guy at the register said I am the manager. I told him I asked for Sesame Beef, and Lo-Mein, and he said we only make Lo-Mein for the special. Lo-Mein not come with Sesame Beef. I said I under stand I do not care how much it is I want Sesame Beef, and Lo-Mein. He said can not do it to hard make Lo-Mein. I said sir I am willing to pay for it separate no problem I will pay for regular Sesame Beef, and Lo-Main what ever the cost. He again said can not do Lo-Mein to hard. At that point I had enough. I then said as I was walkin out the door, How can it be any harder to cook Lo-Mein with Sesame Beef, than the cook Lo-Mein with Sesame Chicken I really just do not understand how that can be? Also how could you loose a sale that would have been the price of two entrees about $16.00 - $20.00 my estimate, and the loss of a first time customer? Oh well I left and went to a buffet down the street, and got what I wanted for half the price only $8.99

Heaven Dragon is the best! Every time I come to Thornton I eat here. Most of the dishes are really good, but you can find similar quality at other good Chinese restaurants. However, the Walnut Shrimp, is the one of the best dishes I have ever had and I have never had anything like it anywhere else.

  • Shaunna P.

By far one of my favorite places for Chinese! We have been coming here for 13 years. The food is excellent and their lunch specials are awesome, way more food than one person could eat. There is never any question as to exactly what kind of meat you are eating, the ingredients are great quality. We have never had more than a 5 minute wait and the food is always on the table in minutes. Staff is courteous and attentive. The egg drop soup and egg rolls are great but their lo-mien is to die for:)

  • Grace M.

My favorite sesame chicken is from here..... By far! The lunch special is such an awesome deal with a great price....lots on your plate.

I have previously visited here for lunch and found both the food and service to be excellent. Tonight, not so much. I went with my family around 8:30pm on a Friday night. Our food was terrible. The rice was like gravel and the crispy duck was dry and flavorless ... seemed like it had been sitting for a long time. There was chicken in the egg drop soup ... much to the dismay of my vegetarian daughter. Who puts chicken in egg drop soup?!? Our waitress treated us as an annoying interruption of her evening rather than welcome guests. We had to flag down the bussers to get water refills. There are MUCH better options for Chinese in Thornton -- China 2000 and United Chinese come to mind. I don't think we'll be returning to Heaven Dragon.

  • Beau W.

I was confused to see their overall rating. I love this place. Yes, it's a little more expensive than the dollar scoop joints up the street, but that's for a reason. This is real food. Good soups, okay egg rolls and great entrees. It's a Thornton staple with an interesting story. They have pictures of former presidents and celebrities posing with the owner on the wall. The owner also was sentenced to 18 months in prison and had almost a million dollars seized by the police for growing pot. Sounds odd now that it's legal. I have met him on several occasions throughout the years and he is a polite, courteous and an all around nice guy. Anyway, in my opinion, it's the best Chinese food in Thornton and that's what's really important.

  • Andrea H.

Food was ok.... I used to love this place but it went down hill. Service was terrible. What concerns me is that they were out of soap in the women's restroom. Ummmmm......health department violation!

Great food and prices. Went for lunch yesterday, huge portions...enough leftover for 3 more meals! Highly recommend.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I heard about Heaven Dragon for years but never went there until about two years ago and I have been a regular ever since. They treat everyone there very well and with much courtesy and respect. They talk to you like you're family. The food is delicious (well, most dishes...some can be a little bland like the Chicken Curry) I usually get the Sesame or Orange Peel Chicken. I love the way they cook their chicken - extra crispy! The fried dumplings are great as well!

    (5)
  • Sarah S.

Good Chinese food, but not spectacular. A LOT of fried dishes that I wish were served grilled instead. Portions are big and prices are fair. If you eat in, they're pretty good. Although husband did have to wait quite a while for a refill on his soda. They do take out as well, but no delivery as far as I know.

  • Shannon D.

I have always loved Heaven Dragon as the place to go for good Chinese food. The last two times we went, we've been truly disappointed. First, the sweet and sour chicken was not cooked thoroughly. It actually tasted still slightly frozen. The mongolian beef was very salty. The Lemon chicken was very good and kept me from taking it to one star today. The last time too we were disappointed in the food quality. The rice was awful both times.

We have been loyal customers of Heaven Dragon since we first discovered it 11 years ago. The food is consistently great and the service is always prompt and courteous. We have eaten at many other Chinese restaurants around Denver and where we travel, and we always compare our meals to Heaven Dragon because it's the best!! The food and atmosphere will impress family, friends and out-of-town guests every time! Our favorite dishes: Hot & Sour soup, Chicken with Snow Peas, Chicken Lo Mein, and Mongolian Beef. Their Sesame Chicken also ROCKS!!

    (4)
  • Brett C.

OK, honestly, it's pseudo chinese food. If you added all the chinese resuaurants together in Denver, Heaven Dragon would be in the upper 50%. What I love about this place is its owner! He's a great guy and he serves the community well! Anybody who can get the mayor and police chief to hold thier drug money with no question asked and then get off on the charges after he's caught, has my business for life! Seriously, I eat here all the time.

Been here for the lunch special on a few occasions - always been happy, good food. Went for dinner with the family telling all how good the place is. Man what a terrible experience, the worst ever at a Chinese place. The server was rude and downright mad and curt. She just dumped food on the table, brought our main course 1 min after she dumped the poopoo platter on the table, never came back to ask how our terrible food was. The sesame chicken was overcooked and rubbery. Wife ordered vegetable fired rice and it had peas and snow peas in it, I ordered garlic chicken and it came with squash, carrots. and 4 other vegetables, when I asked the rude server why her friedd rice had no vegetables in it she says, we only serve what vegetable we have, I said but, mine had squash, carrots why didn't you put it in her fried rice, she looked at me and said nothing and walked away. I told her we were not happy she looked at me and said nothing and left us the full bill. DONT GO TO THIS PLACE IT SUCKS. Stay away the worst food and rudest service I have ever had a Chinese food place.

Food is very good and quick. Sometimes pack the to-go bags and sauces oozes out, but I'm a fan. Very good selection of American Chinese classics and some interesting options, including steamed anything (if you are health conscious).

  • Derek B.

This is our current go-to place for Chinese food. Their take-out is always lightning-fast, and they are incredibly consistent with our orders--never had a mix-up or a mistake, even though I always place a specialized order.

My parents raised me on this place when I was a small child (well not my dad, exactly, but he eventually came around). I would always order the the almond chicken and eat around the almonds. And the vegetables. I'd basically just eat the chicken. Or the teriyaki chicken because I like fried things with no vegetables. Now, I eat oppositely. I went here this weekend while housesitting for my parents and took the cousin along (she may have eaten here when she was young, but doesn't remember it). The place is PACKED for an unassuming strip mall place. The political photos just keep multiplying on the walls. I remember the first picture of Dan Tang with Dubya and thinking "the president likes this place too? Not saying much about my own personal taste, but that's kind of cool..." Our waitress was a little surly and the service wasn't as prompt as I remember. This place could also use a good updating. They've added some new "Thai" dishes, but I steer clear of "Thai" in Thornton, done by a Chinese food restaurant. We ended up sharing the pan fried noodles with shrimp and tofu...the shrimp was tasty but the tofu tasted like it had maybe turned. I've had the sesame tofu here many times and it's tasty and huge...the tofu has never been sour (my mom orders this often which keeps their supply rotated, maybe?) We also shared crab cheese wontons. They always set a basket of fried wontons in front of you with hot and sour sauce and hot mustard...kind of like chips and salsa. This has always been my favorite part. Nothing like fried wonton skins before a greasy meal. And their food is hella greasy. The portions are huge. That's what makes this place so good. We split the noodles and then I made two more meals out of it. It may not be my favorite Chinese/Asian food place, but you have to start somewhere. The food is cheap and greasy, the portions are large, and the people watching can be top-notch. Also, Dan Tang roams around and shakes hands. I think everyone should go here at least once, like Casa Bonita.

I came in here recently for dinner. It had a great atmosphere, friendly staff, and tasty food. They were a bit pricey than I would have normally paid. I got my order to go so I can't comment on the attentiveness of the staff once the food came, but I can say the food was cooked to perfection. I'll definitely come back.

  • Nick B.

Some of the best Chinese food I've ever had. Love the atmosphere. Pupu platter is the best!!

    (5)
  • Nicole W.

Best Chinese food in the area. I always get Chicken Lo Mein & Sesame Chicken and love it! The owner always makes an effort to come around too when you dine in, which is great!

  • justin d.

Again one of the few places I like everything on the menu! Everything is full Of flavor! The coconut shrimp is huge and de lish, not sure about the lower reviews with only one star as you walk in the door a laundry list of politicians that have ate here and returned! George bush senior, Hillary clinton and bill too even pimp slap a country one time for talking sh*t one time lil Bush too! The owner stops and talks with every table. Who cares what you see on the news! I think Italian and Chinese proprietor needs a mafia non legit persona, gives the food character

After seeing 2 friends of mine say good things about this place I decided to try it out with 4 other friends. The first thing I noticed going into the restaurant is that its huge inside! The decor is really nice and gives me that chinese feel. BTW, I am Chinese and so is my gf. So the 5 of us ordered 3 dinner plates to share as majority of us werent that hungry. The waitress seemed unhappy since we only ordered 3 dishes. That was the first thing we noticed when she took our order. Once we started eating, we constantly had to flag her down to refill our water since she never came to check on us. At the end, 4 of us paid with credit cards and had her split the bill. She took the signed receipts and went through to make sure we paid up, right in front of us! Then she mumbled something in mandarin as she left. As she walked past us to help another table, she mumbled the same thing again! WTF is her problem? 2 people in our table understand mandarin and it sounded like she called us cheap! First of all, the service wasnt great and we gave her about 17% tip! That rudeness was uncalled for. Needless to say, we will not go back there again.

  • Jenny C.

I am usually not a an of chinese food-that is why I gave it a 3 star. However, this place is great for their sesame chicken. My boyfriend and I was amazed of how awesome it was that the owner got to meet former President Bush. There was pictures of him all over the entry. The service was friendly. Very quiet place. Our sesame chicken came out and it was fresh. They definitely had fresh chicken and refills of water came really quick. I was surprised by the service knowing that asians are horrible servers in an asian restaurant.

  • Tim S.

Over the past 10 years I have never had a bad meal here. It has always been consistently clean, fast, delicious and at a reasonable price. The often large diner crowds would indicate they are doing something right. Favorites: Walnut Shrimp, Happy Family, Sesame Chicken, Lo main

    (4)
  • Hannah S.

They have the best sesame chicken!! Their lunch deal is the best because you get soup, egg roll, rice, and the entree of your choice for 5.95!!! Dinner is a little more expensive but well worth it. I go at least once a week.

  • Laura L.

I have to say, Chinese food is not at the top of my favorite foods, but this place was DELICIOUS!!! We have lived in the area for about a year and tonight we decided to try it. What a trip it was to walk through the doors and walk straight into something like a restaurant in China. My hubby and I were shocked that we didn't go through a portal or something. Not what we expected out of a strip mall Chinese food restaurant. The portions were huge, we got a dinner for two type thing..with a pu pu platter, kung pao chicken and crispy beef. We have enough leftovers to get through the next couple days. Food was delicious, tasted like it was actually cooked and not a frozen entrée heated up in the microwave. We are definitely going back!

  • Fiona W.

Best Chinese Food In Thornton...Hands Down! I have ordered the Kung Pao, Sweet & Sour Pork, Crispy Shrimp, Sesame Chicken, and all were good. It's good...simple..good to eat there or take home. They have a good lunch special too!

I had a late lunch last week at the restaurant. Unfortunately when I left, I forgot my smartphone on the table. I realized 10 minutes later & returned to find that the phone was gone and no one seemed to know anything about it. It was a slow afternoon and the few other tables around me were still eating. I was just sure they had it, but they said that the busser did not see it and they did not know what happened to it. After spending the next couple hours running around buying a new phone, calling the restaurant back and a 2nd visit they still had no idea. My husband then goes in demanding my phone and the OWNER produces it and says he just found it under the table. Seriously?? That phone was not under the table. I looked twice and the staff had looked twice as well. Very disappointing!! Isn't this the same guy who was convicted of an illegal marijuana grow operation a couple years ago?? Shame on you! Avoid this place

Having been raised in the Bay Area I know what good Chinese food is. This place is the standard greasy Chinese that is typical of the Denver area. It's less greasy than the United Chinese on 128th but only slightly. But it's edible and I don't get a stomach ache from whatever grease they use, that's a good thing. Like I said, it's not bad. Not great, but not bad. The decor... well it seems every Chinese restaurant in Denver seems to have pictures of the owner with Bush... WTF is up with that? I don't care if he ate there or not. I'm just curious how he has eaten at all these places. But then again, why is it that I should care?

  • Brock S.

I had the sesame chicken, my wife had the terriyaki chicken. mine was about as anyone would expect for Chinese food. the food quality was poor but they covered it up by frying the hell out of it. somewhere in the spheres of batter and fried on space suits was some kind of meat. when i choose to punish my body with this kind of unhealthy food, i would expect it to taste good, but this did not. i'm also a bit sensitive to MSG, and this place had me TRIPPING BALLS from the chemical additives. i had a passive head spin for a good hour after dinning. my wife's dish looked like rats on a stick. she didnt eat any of it, just picked it apart looking for teeth claws or band aids. i don't know if this restaurant is particularly bad or if i just haven't eaten at a greasy spoon Chinese place in a while; but this was horrible. everything that masqueraded as meat was fried to a crisp, and any plant life was not fresh at all. on a positive note, they did go to quite an effort to put on the finishing touches (cloth napkins, lots of artwork, etc). i dont know how authentic much of it was, but it was done better than the other Chinese restaurants I can remember. the service was good and friendly. I feel bad flaming them on yelp...wait, i just burped, it smells like paint remover, yea again i give this a strong "eek me thinks not".

This place has great food at amazing prices. The pictures taken with the presidents are there to prove that the experience you are getting was approved by people of the highest honor this country knows. The staff is friendly, the environment is soothing, and the owner delights in seeing enjoyment on his customers' faces.

Heaven Dragon should be renamed something like "Phony Chinese Slop Shop". The so called food in this restaurant can be described in one word - revolting. The hot and sour soup was canned chicken broth, boiled, with a bit of flour in it to thicken. The Kung Pao Beef was soaked in so much salt, it was inedible. The rice was like little pieces of gravel. The General Tso Chicken was the texture of deep fried balsa wood, stank from its age (probably formerly frozen several times and obviously months old) covered with about half a cup of corn syrup. In all my travels, all over the world, I have never had a worse meal. We had about three bites, paid and walked out. Moreover, for those of you of a more progressive persuasion, the decor in the place consists of the owner's three foot tall photographs of him with GW Bush, GHW Bush, Dick Cheney and other fascist icons. Lovely.

  • Art M.

This is the absolute best Chinese restaurant up north. The best items here are: Happy family w/the white garlic sauce, all shrimp dishes, and sesame chicken is the best. The decor is straight out of a Jackie Chan movie. Also dorning the walls are several Republican presidents. no Dems here.. but don't let that scare you away.. here it's all about the food and you just can't go wrong... PS The owner is nice and will personally greet you..like he knows ya..

    (4)
  • Jefferson N.

The young fella up front was not friendly but we were seated quickly. We ordered, our appetizers came out within 2 minutes and our main entrees within 5. I like fast food but that is too fast, makes me question how fresh my food really is. But, it was very tasty, and the portion size is huge. For 6 dollars you get enough to eat lunch that day and take home for another meal later. Overall it's good but I think too hyped in this area. Everyone talks about how much they loooove heaven dragon, it's good, but nothing to rave about.

  • Steve H.

I'm a serious fan of the 2 locations not listed here: the one in Arvada & also Broomfield. Haven't dined at the Thornton one but based on 2 others am confident it's stellar. That said, every single meal I've eaten there (30++) for both lunch & dinner is fantastic. Strongly a fan of the Happy Family entree, but every meal has been great. Service is top notch (hi to Jennifer in Broomfield); wait staff is well dressed, attentive service, knowledgable. If you're looking for an experience notably above all other Chinese restaurants, but still priced reasonably, pick any of the 3.

  • BigMikeEatsDenver ..

If you like good quality asian food with actual fresh veggies this is the place..I started going here when I lived in Thornton 11 years ago and have been a regular since.I have run into the owner several times in the grocery store getting fresh product for that day, that is a good feeling..

I think in order to be taken seriously as a Yelper, I must personify a restaurant and write it an open letter. So here goes: Dear Heaven Dragon, Thank you for serving scrumptious Chinese food hot and fast. You takeout has been the foundation for many a quiet night in. Your portions carry on the fine Chinese restaurant tradition of leftovers in those clever little boxes with the wire handles. Your hot and sour soup is incomparable and I am especially elated at your choice to begin serving brown rice. Don't change Heaven Dragon...don't change. Very Truly Yours, Josh

    (4)
  • L M.

As you can tell from other reviews their sesame anything is freaking awesome, among everything else they serve. The only thing lack luster is the fried rice, but I mean...it's fried rice, so really not that big of a deal. Always awesome.

  • Jared L.

Service was fast and friendly, the place has a good feel to it, but the food just plain sucks...

  • Melissa P.

I don't like Chinese food. Never have. That said... I love Heaven Dragon. Yes, the scary Republican decor and recent drug ring bust on the owner are a bit off-putting, but damn this food is good! Try the Mongolian beef or the broccoli beef with fried rice. YUM! My husband swears by the General Tso's chicken and the Kung Pao.

If you are looking for Peking duck in the Denevr area this is the place.

  • Jeramyn F.

We went there based on recommendations from friends and their advertising of celebrity attendances. I was a little disappointed. The service was great the decor was great but the ambiance and food was distinctly average american. Overall I enjoy P.F. Chang's for average american Chinese a lot better. Their dishes sounded interesting and unique but what was served was nothing spectacular. We all ordered spicy dishes that were delivered to the table with out a hint of spiciness very disappointing. I won't be driving out of my way to visit this place again.

Scary Republican Decor! OMG, the vestibule walls of this restaurant are covered with 4 foot tall smiley pictures of George W, George Sr, Dick Cheney, and other Republican hot shots with the owner. Some say that this is the place that George W orders from when he's in CO- I say that the owner Dan is probably the biggest GOP contributor in the area. There is even a framed watch (George W's?) with a hand written note from the White House. The owner Dan seemed nice, he even told me that he was better looking than George W. when he saw me scrutinizing the photos. I appreciate the extra rice he added to my large to-go order, but yikes, the GW shrine is a huge turn off. When it comes to politics, to each his own. But the place is super popular. Don't be surprised if you have to wait.

    (3)
  • Freddie C.

Again, WOW! What the H are these people complaining about? I have been eating at Dan's place since 1990. It was really slow getting your order back then, but they were not open for business that long. I even got the wrong orders a few times but the service was always exceptional. Just like a few people said the sesame chicken can not be beat in the Mile High City! Neither I nor any of my 50+ family has had better anywhere! Dan always comes out and greets the customers during dinner. The rest of the food that we have had there (hunan beef, pork/chicken in garlic sauce etc.) were always great. Hey Becky S. beautiful face and other shots. At first I was thinking the other person in the photos was your father, you deserve better! How many restaurants are happy to see a customer come in for an order just before closing? NONE! Plus yes the ex-pres Bush did love the place, the photos are not fake.

Great, solid chinese food accross the menu. Fantastic fast service, quality food, interesting menu. Great place for chinese for lunch, dinner, or take out. There are a lot of pictures of Republicans on the wall if that freaks you out. One of the few places in the North Suburbs where you can get seated or pickup takeout after 9PM. Try it! I especially like the crispy prawns - if you ask they can make any dish as spicy as you like.

This place is kind of weird (and personally off-putting) because of all of the Republican decor, but its nicely outfitted, clean, and is a very good deal. I guess I just write all of the pictures off to the owner probably building several restaurants with his own sweat and he's proud to be doing well.. the whole status symbol thing and all. It's definitely very Americanized Chinese food. The Lunch specials are a super good deal-- about $7 for a meal and drink-- can't beat that! Dinners are a bit more costly ($10-12 or so with a drink) Although I'm eating healthier (at least for now), I have typically ordered the fried things off of the menu such as the Sesame Chicken and the Walnut Chicken. I've certainly had much better Chinese food-- the sauces are almost overwhelmingly sweet, but I do get a craving for their version of these dishes from time to time. The service is always top notch and better than 99% of other Chinese food places I've ate at which is a nice change. The servings are huge and even the biggest eaters should have leftovers to make another meal with. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here unless I was experiencing one of my aforementioned cravings, but it's sadly better than most other Chinese places in the Northern 'burbs that I'm aware of.

I have to say WTF about the decor. Seriously you can find better chinese food and not be contributing indirectly to the GOP. The photo's of the owner and some Republican big wig are HUGE. Almost to scale. It was rated very high in citysearch or something. I think their claim to fame is they catered for Dubba or his father. This place is weird...

Soooo tasty! I haven't had such good Chinese food in YEARS! (Thanks, San Diego.) Even the leftovers were delish, and I don't particularly like leftovers, usually. I got potstickers/dumplings, and they were okay, buttoned Cashew Chicken was outstanding. Great flavor, and was still even tasty after 2-3 days in the fridge. I haven't had good Chinese since I left Washington (and that one stint in Jersey,) YEARS ago. San Diego knows its Mexican, but all the Chinese I had there was just sad. I ate PF Chang's and lied to myself, biding my time to find edible Chinese once more. I wanted to bathe in my Cashew Chicken (always a sign of a winner, in my opinion.) I wanted to bathe in the leftovers too. Thank goodness I don't to lie to myself about mediocre Chinese again. Mama's home. This is good food. It was just one try, so, I'll have to keep going back to make sure. The restaurant smelled mouthwatering. The service was a little lacking, abrupt, the menu could use more detailed descriptions (I like to know what veggies are in each dish, personally,) but the food. Mmmmm...drool. Oh yeah, could've been spicier. I like my food spicy, the Cashew Chicken was not, even when I added my own Sriracha. I miss Seattle Chinese and the 0-5 star options on everything.

We love Heaven Dragon....the food is great, prices are reasonable and the owner is very friendly! Our only concern is that the carpet is filthy and always makes us wonder what the kitchen is like!!!!!

Decor..lovely. The place was clean and had easy parking. We got seated very quickly. The food was actually really good! We ate several of the chicken dishes, seafood and soup dishes. I didn't think there was too much salt at all. It was actually all well seasoned and delicious. We wanted it served family style but couldn't figure out how to order it that way. We verbalized it to three different staff members but could never make it happen. Communication is for sure a MAJOR issue. It was virtually impossible to get questions asked and answered. It seemed very rushed, in all aspects. I guess the food speaks for itself. As good as it was, I couldn't go above 3 stars with the service issues.

This would have been 5 stars for the food. Its really good. But had to drop off a couple stars as i dont think they ever dust this place. Cob webs hanging from the ceiling and backs of chairs filled with dust. If they would clean up and replace the old torn carpet...held together with staples it would be 5 stars for sure. Too bad

Never a bad experience! The best Chinese food I have had in my life. The Sesame chicken is phenomenal, delicious egg drop soup, tasty egg rolls - you can't go wrong here! The atmosphere is also really cool and the decor is beautiful at Heaven Dragon. Staff is always friendly. One of my favorite restaurants of all time.

Love this place, stumbled on this place and couldn't be happier. The lunch menu is great, we always get the sesame chicken which comes with a huge plate full, rice, egg roll and soup. Service isn't always great but the food is worth it.

I usually just order to go. The food is always ready within 15 minutes. Good egg rolls, lo mein, sesame chicken and you have to try the cho cho. I love it.

Meh. I've experienced better. Pretty much says it all. This place has a cult like following in north Denver. I've tried it several times with the above sentiments each time. My most recent visit I was greeted by a waitress that I could not understand to save my life. I know I'm in a Chinese restaurant but I don't speak the language so I'm not sure if that's my fault or theirs. I managed to order a volcano, a two person drink that arrives at the table on fire. I'm convinced that the only alcohol in the drink was set ablaze because it was weak and tasted really bad. Our group ordered a variety of dishes including their famed duck. When everything arrived we served it family style so that everyone got a little of everything. The duck was pretty bad, seemed like it was cooks a long time ago then reheated in the microwave. Everything else was drowned in some kind of syrupy sauce. When it came time to pay the bill I handed over my card, when the ticket came back for me to sign I realized I had been over charged by over $15. The waitress was nowhere to be found. I left frustrated and vowed never to return.

Oh HD - you have been the Chinese food staple of Thornton for as long as I can remember. If I would have wrote this a few years ago, it would have been a blazing five stars (and proud!) Over the last year - I'm not sure what's happened to you. The 90s/early 2000s were your glory days and they're noticeably fading. Most recently, I ordered lo mein and sesame chicken with hot and sour soup to go and instant, deep regret. The soup was bland. The lo mein was old, like... Ew it's got hard spots, old and my poor sesame chicken was so dry, it was this terrible crunchy, chewy texture that made you want to run away. The considerable amount of leftovers were tossed out the next day. If this had been a dollar a scoop place, the quality would have been just as you expect. For HD, it just show cases how lazy they've got. This place needs an update badly and to regain our love, not just keep cashing in on our nostalgia for the good days. For poor food, high price and making me find a new Chinese place - 2 stars.

I'm not a huge chinese food girl but i will definitely be ordering from here more. Sesame chicken, fried rice, and chicken lo mein NO onions. Delicious. The service is ALWAYS quick when we order take out. Decent pricing too.

Dine in is much better than take out/delivery. I have ordered take-out many times trying to hope for a better experience, however the food is consistently sub-par for take-out. We often order sweet & sour chicken, and the chicken is often over done and too tough to even chew. The dine-in experience, however, is good in a "dive-y" sort of way.

If you want quick American-Chinese food, this is the place to go. The price is affordable for family outings. However, if you want a quick ticket to hypertension, feel free to continue your visits here. I always order everything with no salt, which is still pretty salty from their sauce, so it evens out. The service is about the same as any traditional Asian restaurants, which is mediocre. The owner Dan is really friendly. Most of all, if you're not a right wing politician, you would still find this place enjoyable, just experiment with the different dishes on the menu, because it goes from Thai to Vietnamese. Once again, this place is a good Thursday-Night-I'm-Too-Lazy-To-Cook place. Lastly, it's Thornton, not too many choices up here.

Simply the best! I moved here 9 months ago and I am always worried when trying new Chinese restaurants. I came here after a recommendation from a friend. Let me tell you...ever since I eat here at least once a week. Delicious no matter if you dine in or carry out. If you dine in I would highly recommend the pu pu platter as an appetizer. The food is always delicious and fresh. Great family restaurant!

Have been coming here for years! The service is by far the best, employees are always willing to help and the people are well taken care of. I can't find another restaurant like this ANYWHERE so stop by and get some great food, you will not regret a thing!

We have been here a few times now. We go during lunch time because the lunch special is amazing. We can feed our family of 5 with left overs for around $20. The service isn't great & I don't think I've seen any employees smile but the food makes up for it. The dishes are large & we'll order 3 plates & share between everyone. It's a great way to get a variety & same some money.

There are tons of really good Chinese restaurants really close to us but Heaven Dragon is our favorite! Reasonable prices for the amount of food you get! Always prompt and ready on take out orders. When the owner is there he always greets you with a hello and a handshake!

Food is always amazing!!! We drive a distance to get food from here! The quality is excellent and the take out is fast and always delicious. We have not been disappointed yet ;) we get the Orange chicken Mongolian beef and Kung pao and love them all!!

In the past this used to be a great restaurant .. But today was the rudest, and worst service I have ever received. I was so embarrassed to bring my whole family there for Mothers Day. Walmart had better service, that's how bad it was. I was incredibly disappointed. Don't know that we will ever be back.

Best Chinese restaurant up north. Sesame shrimp is a dish you have to try before you die. They have perfected the sesame dishes. I know the owner got into a wee but of some legal issues before, but hey, who doesn't like a lil but if Mary Jane?! Sprinkle that on my dish (I kid, I kid...) but he's back at his restaurant putting his all into it. He even comes out and personally makes sure everything is up to your expectations and thanks you for coming in. They have pictures on the wall of various famous people who love heaven dragon- like ex president Bush. The decor is beautiful- everything you would expect walking into an authentic Chinese restaurant. As an immigrant coming to America, I think the owner has done a splendid job.

Used to go here when I was little and decided to go back since I live close by.. Just as good as I remember.. I ordered carry out, and not only was it ready in ten minutes but everything was super fresh and hot! It was so good .. The soup, the sesame chicken... Everything. Can't wait to go back... Tomorrow lol

When it comes to delicious, surprisingly affordable Chinese food this is the place to go! My husband and I swing by Heaven Dragon every few weeks during their lunch hours when a full, massive, meal is only $6-$7 per person. It's such a steal, and a cheap way to enjoy the best Chinese food we've had in the area. Our personal favorites are the Sweet and Sour Chicken and the Sesame Chicken, both which are dishes to die for. We've traveled to many other Chinese restaurants in Thornton, Denver, and Lakewood and have yet to find one that we prefer over Heaven Dragon. We've been consistent customers there since around 2000 and the food quality is still just as good. Plus the lunch deal is just so cheap you really can't go wrong. The one thing that makes giggle every time we go is all of the bad typos on their menu. Totally not a big deal at all but surprising that they've been on there that long! This place is also perfect for big groups, we often go with large groups of friends and order a couple of their larger dinner dishes to split between everyone. It's really inexpensive if done that way and everyone leaves happy.

This restaurant has gone down hill in recent years. The carpet is worn and filthy, the decor is old and dusty. The food is still decent, I like their sesame chicken, but I don't get the feeling the kitchen is clean.

I don't know about the whole Denver area but they're my favorite Chinese Restaurant in the Thornton area. The food is simply amazing and I can't express that enough--my favorite is the Mongolian Beef but Sesame Chicken is a close runner-up. They also give good portions, so you feel like you got your money's worth. The owner and staff have always been kind and makes you feel welcome. I eat here at least once a week and would easily recommend this place to anyone who's looking for Chinese food.

This place has the best Chinese food. They are quick and the quality is always great. We order takeout and it is always ready in the time it takes to drive the mile to get there from the house. We always order the Sesame chicken because everyone loves it, but Broccoli Beef is a close second. And I LOVe the crab Cheese Wontons. This place is A+.

Who cares about the owner's political views? The food matters so much more! We've been customers of Dan Tang's restaurant, which is a Thornton institution, since 2000. He talks to everyone who comes in! His staff is so friendly and prompt, it's a breath of fresh air! And, the food! Hands down, the best broccoli beef in Denver. Crisp broccoli, tender beef, lightly seasoned sauce. You can't go wrong. Other must-tries: steamed dumplings, shrimp pad thai, sesame chicken and shrimp, and curry chicken. Grin (or grimace) at the giant political photos. Rub Buddha's belly when you walk in the door. Just give this place a try!

I've been coming here since I was a kid in the 80's. They were on the other side of the strip mall and my palette was only able to handle chow mien. Since then, I've moved on to other delights, but my favorite continues to be the Sesame Chicken.

After a long fishing trip I was craving some asian food . I can't believe how horrible this place is . I ordered the drunken noodles . It's so sweet , and the noodles aren't even cooked all the way . This place is a disgrace to fast food Chinese food . I should have eaten a frozen TV dinner instead .

This is my second favorite Chinese restaurant in co, Chann's Inn being the first. The food is amazing and has been for the last 20+years and I've never had a bad dish. Really what makes them second is the staff. At Chann's they always seem happy to see you. Here you're just another customer.

Decided to order this over the weekend trying a new Chinese restaurant for our weekly weekend outings. We ordered the food as a pick up, not knowing that there is no delivery within the area...which I was very surprised. If you've seen any of my other posts, I always order Sesame Chicken. I will occasionally order something different, but that's my staple. There chicken was good too, more on the crispy side, but very good. Not my favorite but I would order it again if I decided to eat here again. The rice was pretty dry and we had fried rice. My girlfriend ordered egg foo young and it came with three patties, which were a good portion. Those tasted good as well. I would say give it a try if you want to try a new place. I've heard that you get a better experience when you dine in, so that might be something I decide to do next time I eat here!

Their food is amazing! The egg drop soup is like any other in Colorado, the quality of the restaurant is high class. But when adding everything together you miss out on one key component, customer service. Clean place great food but a lack of customer service dooms this place and for that I can't always recommend this as a high class restaurant. If you like good food come here if you don't mind being mistreated that is. Heavenly food but dragon type service.

I've eaten here a number of times and have never been disappointed. My family is made up of people with diverse dietary habits, from vegetarians to almost carnivores. All of us leave Heaven Dragon full and happy every single time. I'm not a vegetarian but I always like to order a tofu dish in a Chinese restaurant because tofu is so bland and easy to screw up. If a restaurant can make tofu taste good, they will likely get my business again. Heaven dragon makes two different tofu dishes (Sesame Tofu and Tofu Homestyle) that are better than any I've had at any other restaurant in the Thornton/Northglenn area. My brother ordered the beef with asparagus and I could see how generous the portion was and how fresh all of the vegetables looked. None of the dishes were drowning in sauce or overly salty, as is often the case in some Chinese restaurants. After a few visits, the manager recognized us and made a point of coming over to our table and talking to us for a few minutes. The servers are fast, but not overly friendly. I attribute this to some of them not having mastery over the English language as opposed to being rude. The food arrives quickly and the orders have always been accurate whenever I've eaten there. Regarding the complaints some have made about the political photos on the wall near the entrance, the owner just seems proud to have served world leaders of all political affiliations. It's not a shrine to either political party. If you look at all of the pictures on the wall, you will likely be impressed by some photos and repulsed by others. There doesn't seem to be any bias shown either way. Both political parties are represented. If you run a restaurant and have a chance to have your photo taken with a famous person, take the free advertising. That's all it seemed like to me. Great food, great decor, fast (if not the friendliest) service, and great value for the money will keep me coming back.

My family and I have eaten here many times. We usually get the sesame chicken and beef and broccoli. The food is pretty good and the staff has always been pleasant. They may want to update the place since it seems to be getting a little dingy but overall we have had good experiences when we have eaten here.

The staff here is pretty rude and impatient. But I keep going back because the food is seriously the best Chinese food in the area.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
