Diabetics at Whataburger

High Cholesterol at Whataburger

Calorie intake is the main concern for people with high cholesterol while dining at a fast-food restaurant like Whataburger. Well, you can always try the Lighter & Smaller options from the menu to cut down your fat intake. Opting for grilled sandwich or burgers are preferred compared to double meat or triple meat cheesy burgers which contain high cholesterol.

Foods to Avoid at Whataburger for High Cholesterol

Cut down on your meat intake to control your high cholesterol. You must skip Double Meat Whataburger and Triple Meat Whataburger at all costs. You should also avoid Avocado Bacon Burger and Monterey Melt as both these burgers contain a high amount of fat. Whatacatch Dinner may sound tempting but the famous fish sandwich is also full of calories and unhealthy fat. Lastly, avoid French Fries and Onion Rings at Whataburger if you are already ordering a burger or any other heavy meal.

Excellent, diverse menu. Attentive but not annoying service. Casual atmosphere. Try the elderflower vinegrette and don't skip the bread. Quinoa risotto is to die for.

I have been to the Tabernash Tavern twice since I moved to Colorado and cannot wait to return. The food is absolutely Spot On and Delicious. I am very picky when it comes to restaurants and I have to say the food is some of the best I have ever had. I like how their menu is always fresh. It gives lots of options. There really is something for everyone. Cannot wait to go back!!

Flat out great place. Could it be better? Sure, but the menu was one of those where each and every choice looked delicious. Had the mac nut crusted scallops with snow peas and lobster tator tots. It was spectacular! We also had the buffalo carpacio, salads, soup and the tuna ceviche. The worst of the lot was the soup. The raw dishes were very good. Beer list was a bit small, but solid. The wine list was also small, but also solid. Service was great!

We've been wanting to try Tabernash Tavern for a while, and overall we were not disappointed. The negatives are that the noise level is pretty high - particularly if you are sitting in a corner. Also, this night they had a party of 25 (rehearsal dinner, I believe) and it definitely affected service. Our waitress was not overly engaging or accommodating, an almost seemed put out by us... but she was apologetic for the long wait in between our appetizers and main course. We ordered the mussels as an appetizer - or Foreplay as they like to call it - cooked in white wine w/lemon and garlic. Absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. I tried the onion soup that someone in our party ordered, also scrumptious. The shoestring potatoes were a little crunchy - but I like them that way - and were perfect to soak up the white wine sauce from the mussels. As for the main courses we ordered... Overall pretty disappointing. My husband and I ordered the Argentine parilla - cooked medium. It was extremely overcooked, and the meat was tough and dry. As an Argentine, I find that unacceptable. My nephew ordered the filet mignon - cooked medium rare - also overcooked and a bit on the dry side. My mother-in-law ordered the crab cakes, overall good - but a little too bready. For dessert, the dulce de leche creme brulee was darn good! I am chalking up the poor quality of our main courses to the 25 top in the back - but definitely willing to give this place another try.

From the outside, this little place is understated and looks like a rustic pub. My boyfriend and I decided to try it the other night and we probably should have made a reservation! The place was bustling and fun, the decor eccentric, and we were FLOORED by the food. Everything we ordered was ahhhhmazing. I can't wait to go back.

Wow, this was a surprise! I had no idea when we walked in, what we were getting ourselves into. From the outside, it looks like a dive bar. And what else would you expect off Hwy 40 in Tabernash, CO? But what a treat! The next day we were still in awe. Within my group, we had the Lobster Mac & Cheese, Risotto, Asian Chicken + Tuna Tartare. All were excellent, but the Lobster Mac took the prize for all of us. The wine list was sufficient, and there was a great selection of beers. There were two things that kept this from being a five star review. The first was the noise level. The restaurant was close to full, not quite, but the acoustics were challenging. It was hard to hear the people across the table. The second thing, was that it definitely took a while for our food to arrive. No one in our group ordered a starter, but the time between our order and arrival was significant. It wasn't a huge deal, because hey, you're in the mountains and either on vacation or away for the weekend, and as long as you have good company its all good.

Best restaurant in Tabernash~! (And the only one there:-). Rivals the semi-nearby Devil's Thumb Ranch Restaurant for quality, but not as chi-chi in atmosphere, dress, or menu selections. Great place to stop if you're on your way to Granby or Grand Lake (or even Steamboat Springs) from Denver. Creative menu of bistro food, but heartier. Excellent beer selection and credible wine list. Nice people. Nice place. A great addition to north-of-Winter-Park Grand County dining choices. I'm a fan for sure.

I must say first off that I applaud the chef and owners for trying to create a foodie draw in little town Colorado. However, I don't think they are quite there yet in delivering exquisite world class cuisine. For my wife and I on our honeymoon, we were pleasantly surprised but not blown away by the food. Now that I think of it there was something off on every dish (e.g. stale tortilla strips in the Caesar asada, bland chickpeas on the meditteranean grille, etc.) but the overall meal was filling and decent. The one thing that I think the management should look at changing is their wine list. Each of the three wines that we had tasted like bottom shelf wine at a Walgreens and were each priced over $10 a glass. I would go to the Tavern again, but sadly like many other restaurants that I have been to that attempt to show their worldly tastes, they miss poorly on the execution.

So, I wasn't going to post this review but after reading about what's happened to others at the Tabernash, I reconsidered...as a public service. I really wanted to like this place but I ended up having one of the strangest restaurant experiences here. It was early - maybe 5:00 - and my boyfriend and I did not have a reservation. It was Happy Hour and we just wanted a few drinks/apps after skiing. (Who makes a reservation for that?) Drove over from Winter Park after hearing this was the new foodie place in the area and we too were greeted by a very rude hostess. We thought we could sit at one of the open pub tables by the bar, but oh no...as soon as we sat, we were told we'd have to be out within 45 minutes. OK...there were a few seats at the bar so we moved over there, no big deal. While we were there, we each ordered a couple beers and had the calamari with green beans. What a coincidence, the bartender was having the calamari too - at the bar, while he was working - which we thought was odd but hey, everyone needs to eat. By that point, we did not feel too comfortable there so we didn't get any more food even though the menu looked very good. To be honest, we were not impressed with the beer selection. It was ok, but even in the Winterpark area, there is better. I will admit to having high standards when it comes this...but still, there was nothing on tap that was particularly interesting or unusual. We paid the check and left a more than reasonal tip for the service we received ($5 on $25). Here's where it gets really weird. A few days later I check my credit card transacations, only to find that the Tabernash had charged me $10 more than I had signed for on the bill. I called the restaurant, spoke to the manager, and she found the original receipt. The bartender had changed my $5 to $15! To the manager's credit, she was very helpful and apologetic, handled things well and refunded the extra charge. Since it was easily resolved, I was going to just let it go. However, it is kind of a big deal to upcharge your customer's credit cards, even if it's just $10. Although I'm happy with the way they handled the credit card thing, I would not recommend the Tabernash and I would recommend paying in cash if you go. It's really too bad that things started off on the wrong foot, because the food looked great, and I think it could be a wonderful restaurant if they can make the overall customer experience a positive one from start to finish.

I think it was an unfriendly experience. Food was less than expected, service was poor and beer selection fair at best. Not a favorite in the Winter Park area. However, the look of the restaurant was pleasant and the menu appeared delicious, but the staff never made me comfortable enough to go that far. Try it out, but I will not go back.

I will not come back here. The food was actually good, but very pricey. My sister also got really sick later, but can't be sure it was from the food. The main problem however is the staff was horrible. I have contacted them about how rudely we were treated , and asked for a response, and still haven't received one. Just because you are one of 3 restaurants in some small dinky town, doesnt mean you don't need to still have manners. Do yourselves a favor and just eat in Winter Park.

Had some friends who went here a few weeks ago and they had a very good experience. Know others who have also had good experiences. Unfortunately, our experience last week was different. The chef couldn't get our orders cooked right. My wife ordered ahi tuna rare to medium rare and it came out well done. I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out well done as well. We both sent our orders back and got our second round later. Both of our orders were again medium plus. Our kids had already finished their meals so we didn't bother sending them back this time. Disappointing. I'll give it 3 start, my personal experience was 2 but will bump to 3 based upon my friend's experience which isn't reflected in yelp.

My family has been coming to Winter Park for nine years to celebrate the holidays. We have eaten at every restaurant in town and this is the first place that inspired me to write a review. The atmosphere is great, the food is great and the wine list is legit.

We went to the Tabernash Tavern for dinner on May 22, just a few days after it opened following its annual mud season closure. We had noted on our OpenTable reservation that it was our wedding anniversary, and everyone of the staff knew about it and wished us well. They had champagne on ice for us, and the food was wonderful. The menu changes about every two weeks. Even though some of the choices stay on the menu, there's always a new twist to the old favorites. We never get tired of going back.

Food was excellent. Waiter was excellent. Bartender was a jerk, must be related to the owner. When I refused to accept a beer that I ordered when the food was served and did not receive until the meal was over, he confronted us, stating "It wasn't long". Not much, just 30 minutes.

We were really looking forward to eating here while on our annual vacation to the area. We had a reservation at 7pm for a party of 4. We were promptly seated. The place screamed Colorado inside and out. It's minutes from Granby, Fraser and Winter Park. My youngest had their Kobe Beef Burger, oldest had a New York Strip and my husband and I both had their filet. Everything was very good. I did not feel like it was over the top however. 38.00 for a filet it seemed a bit pricey. It came with a side of veges and mashed potatoes. We would come back, but I may consider lunch or an early dinner and try their appetizers and happy hour menu. Service was very good and our hostess was kind.

Oh my goodness..., I laugh at some of these reviews!!! Truly, this is one of our favorite places to eat. Never had a bad meal and Sherri the hostess knows us by name. We have a second home here and this is our go to hang out. Sure we've been turned down once in awhile, because they are packed!!! Steaks...always done to perfection because I know how to say" pink not raw btw med rare and med". Usually order a fish dish that is always more than I can eat! Large portions, delicious calamari, Greek salad- to die for, French onion soup yummy. A little pricey but best quaint cozy restaurant for a fine dining experience near Winter Parl. Cheers! Ps desserts-scrumptious

Great food, great spot! A hidden gem on our family ski vacation. Well worth out babysitting money and more, looking forward to our next visit. We had Quinuoa risotto and caesar salad. inventive tasty wish there was a restaurant like yours in Charlotte, nc. We will be back!

  • Kelly M.

At this price point, I really expected a much better experience. This restaurant will not do any substitutions, and has only only a single choice of potato and vegetable with the steaks. So, my kids could not substitute fries (which were offered with the burgers) for the mashed potatoes with their steaks. My wife can't eat dairy, and it was difficult for her to find anything on the menu that she could eat. She certainly couldn't eat the mashed potatoes, which were laced with cream cheese. Most of the side dishes on the other entrees were prepared with butter or cream, and of course there were no substitutions. The vegetable of the night was butternut squash, which was a poor choice by the chef. It was not particularly tasty. It certainly didn't complement the mashed potatoes very well. My wife ordered the pork chop, medium well. It came back medium rare. They recooked it without complaint, but that is the sort of mistake which shouldn't happen in a place of this supposed quality. I could go on, but I don't want to sound like one of those reviewers who has unreasonable demands and wouldn't be pleased with anything. But in a high-end restaurant, you need to get the details right, and this place didn't.

Beyond all expectations is the only thing that you can say about the Tabernash Tavern...service was too notch, and the food was beyond better than michellin star restaurant s that I have eaten at. I had the chicken tois, and my wife had the Berkshire porkchop...both dishes as well as the mudslide pie dessert were astonishingly good. I'll be back to sample the rest of the menu as soon as I can

The atmosphere was superb as were the serving staff. However, I have one phrase for tavern ash -"too much". My husband and I split an appetizer, salad, and entree. The appetizer, a fried Brussels sprout dish, was overpowered by the buffalo sauce and blue cheese crumbles. I could not detect Brussels sprout flavor in it at all- it could've been cardboard under the sauce and cheese. The Caesar salad was interesting, huge, spicy and complex. The entree of wild meatloaf was delicious but 3 pieces and mashed potatoes- oy vey. Too much food. Tone down the amount of food per serving and allow the veggie flavors through!

Bottom line. Best food around Tabernash. BUT ANYONE WHO GIVES THIS PLACE 5 stars is still dazed from getting hit on the head with a $400 bill for average food. You can tell that there has been some thought and time put into the menu. So it gets 3 stars though could have been 4. People rave about some of the dishes that we didn't have but wish we did. A great atmosphere, relaxed, and creative elements to the dishes and presentation. Tasty. Thats asking allot for Tabernash! HOWEVER! There were 2 things that made the experience a little less great. One: The awkward sentence at the bottom of the menu..."We politely decline and requests to changes on the menu." Or something like that... It made you afraid to ask for anything and i guess that is the point. FOR THE PRICE PIONT... they should have offered to do ANYTHING we asked like a real 5 star restaurant. Two: WAY, WAY, WAY, OVERPRICED. I ordered a very average ribeye for 50$. I have eaten at every great steakhouse in Denver... And theirs doesn't even come close to any of them. If you are used to Elway's for a 50$ experience that makes you come back... don't even try you will be disappointed and stop for a burger on the way home. but not theirs, the AVERAGE price for ours was $20 per! TWEEENNNTTTYYY Dollars for a burger! That was good, not great. We eat nice and enjoy good food, But things need to be accurate for the price. 7 people = 4 hamburgers, one salad, two sides of mac and cheese, 4 bowls of soup before hand (12$ per), three steaks and drinks (no alcohol, no appetizers, no desserts) with tip. $400 And I wan't full. So 3 stars. Wish it was higher as we were very excited to eat there...

Phenomenon! Everything we ordered in our party of eight was absolutely phenomenon! Make reservations, this little restaurants gets packed at times. The server was awesome and was knowledgeable about the menu and which wine to pair our meals with. The ambiance was cozy and perfect for a small town setting. Will definitely come back here and enjoy another amazing meal.

We have had many dinners here, only one when the service was good. The food is always excellent. The service is poor, at best. We were celebrating a birthday which I shared when we arrived early. The waiter could not be bothered to greet us and their were multiple other exchanges that made the evening disappointing and uncomfortable. I don't often write reviews, but we were so dissatisfied with the service (again! And the sentiment that we felt), I wanted to share.

  • Amanda N.

Pros: The location is beautiful. The service is excellent. Most of the food is great. Cons: The buffalo au poivre, which I had, was SO fatty, I feel like a solid half of it was all fat and inedible. And for $34? I expect almost zero gristle. The chef seems so full of himself it's a joke. I completely understand "please no substitutions" but when you add "The chef has taken great time to plan out...blah blah" it comes off as "DON'T MESS WITH MY FOOD PEASANTS" Ugh The menu itself seems so pretentious for no reason. I mean, I get its fine dining and whatnot, but it's not even accessibly pretentious. The entire scope of the restaurant rubbed me the wrong way.

This is a 4.5 star place that you would never expect to be sitting in the middle of Tabernash. Where? Exactly. The outside looks like an old saloon but the service and food elevate your experience above the outside looks. We came here for a birthday celebration and were a little skiddish about the prices (which are high - about $32 - $48 per entree) but the quality is amazing. It'll remind you of Capital Grille in downtown Denver. We had a big table of 8 and the service was pretty good for having to coordinate our needs and orders. I think our bill was around $500 after all was said and done, so FYI. I had the lamb chops and I think I counted 4 pairs of chops, all large and perfectly cooked. I was in heaven. Everyone else loved their dishes, however the appetizers weren't that special and kind of pricey for not much food. A decent beer selection, and the interior is a quiet rustic without trying to hard to be contemporary. Great experience (maybe because Daddy Warbucks picked up the bill...) - a good place to celebrate with friends and family.

Consistently some of the best food in the Winter Park area. Food is inventive and different than typical ski town menu. The calamari appetizer never disappoints! On the down side, the service is painful. Last night's dinner was no exception to that rule. As our waitress brought our food, our son asked for some ketchup, she promptly went over to deliver a tab to another table across the room from us. I am not exaggerating in saying that she proceeded to strike up a 25 minute conversation with that table with her back to us. Never checked to see if our food was OK or if we needed (like the ketchup we asked for). I had to go to the bar for the ketchup and beg the girl filling our water glasses to bring the bill around for us. Despite the service, would still recommend paying them a visit - just bring a healthy dose of patience with you!

Fabulous service, great atmosphere. Live music Tuesday nights. I had the pork tenderloin. It was delicious, and the serving was huge! I have plenty for dinner tomorrow, and am very much looking forward to it. My husband had the scallops. It was spicer than he expected. The mudslide dessert was delicious! We'll be back when we are in the area.

Fantastic hole in the wall place. It was an extraordinary surprise for my whole group. It definitely has sticker shock but even the cheaper dished were absolutely astounding. The meat loaf was one of my top ten best dished I have ever tasted

Well-prepared dishes at fine dining or steakhouse prices but without the fine dining service. The Tabernash Tavern lives up to its name with the ambiance - cozy, relaxed, casual, Western feel - we ate in the front of the house which is supposed to be nicer than the back. They had great beers on tap - we enjoyed the Accumulation white IPA from new Belgium and the Hofbrau dunkle. The wine list was pretty good too - the Pinot noir from chile was nice and a Californian cab was fantastic. As an appetizer we ordered the calamari which to our disappointment was battered and fried. We should have asked about the preparation - the flavor of good seafood is lost when fried. Our mistake. As main courses we had the wild meatloaf - some pieces were a little dry and some were perfectly moist; it seemed the chef tried to compensate with a thick, overpowering, abundant sauce. The gaucho veal chop was amazing - I loved the combination of a fresh tomato salsa on the meat. Overall, great food but HUGE PORTIONS - so beware or share. The service is what kept this place from getting 4 or more stars - not very polished. The hostess made a snide comment about my husband's coat; the main courses arrived while the appetizer and accompanying plates were still on the table and before the wine arrived, and by the time we tried them, they were lukewarm not hot. We let the waiter know of our complaints and he was apologetic but didn't do much to make up for the errors. Overall, it could have been an amazing experience but some snafus kept it from greatness - maybe an exception or the rule - we can't say. Also, be prepared for a fairly steep bill for rural America - though it is a touristy destination.

This place is OK but we felt the prices were high. Examples - Filet $49, (are we in New York City?) Burger $16 and then $2 for each add-ons such as cheese, fried onions, beets, etc., manhattan drink $14, Apple pie $10/ slice. Just seems a little pricey but then there are not a great deal of places to eat in the area. The service was great, the atmosphere is cool, and it looks like an old saloon from the outside. Others in the area must enjoy it. It was fully booked and they weren't taking any walk-ins - no reservation - no dining there. If you don't mind the price, it is the place for you!

An unassuming place, with very good food. We were here on a Wednesday, which happens to be Prime Rib Night, and they offer Happy Hour from 5 - 6p every night, which is perfect timing, after a day at Winter Park. The staff was really welcoming, and asked what order we wanted the appetizers, kids meals, and salads served. We started with the Seafood Risotto Fritters - minced shellfish, stuffed inside risotto, breaded, and deep fried to perfect crunchiness (I think this was in a cornflake crust). We also had the Tabernash Tavern (TT) salad - with their bacon ranch dressing (not on the menu, but it's their roasted garlic ranch dressing with bacon). We had the following entrees: Seafood Mac & Cheese - this was a very generous portion, and I wanted to eat every last bite! Filled with scallops, lobster, shrimp, and mussels... the penne was well cooked, with the right amount of cheesiness, and also topped with a cornflake crust. 8oz Burger - cooked well, on a housemade brioche roll. Delicious with caramelized onions, and sea salt french fries Ginger Scented Grilled Salmon - cooked well, very nice presentation and served with seasonal vegetables (during our visit that was roasted winter squash). Prime Rib Special - cooked perfectly, and served with seasonal vegetables. We would definitely come here again.

I've eaten at a number of the best steak restaurants here in Atlanta and Tabernash ranks up there with the best. My family prefers the filet, where I prefer a NY strip. Where the strip may not be as tender as the filet, I find it has a more robust beef flavor and if selected and cooked properly it can be as good or better than the filet and in the case of the Tabernash Tavern NY Strip it most certainly was. It was as good or better than Prime, Chops or Kevin Rathbun Steak. The buffalo brussels sprout appetizer was interesting and tasty and the side items were nothing to write home about. It may not have the ambiance of the aforementioned restaurants but I'd rather pay for the food than the fixtures. The service was excellent and overall the dining experience was very nice. It's pricey but worth it. Reservations are recommended as it always busy, even mid week.

Had a great experience! Would expect such a small town to have such a great restaurant. A bit pricey but definitely worth it. Had the buffalo brussels sprouts and was amazed.

Dollar for dollar food and service, the Tavern gets only 2 stars. I was disappointed as reviews from friends were so much better. Our server seemed irritated that we didn't immediately know what we wanted to order for drinks (we ordered a bottle of wine) and appetizers. When the wine arrived, she dropped the cork on the floor and picked it right back up and placed it in front of me next to the silverware. Less than sanitary. For starters we ordered the cheese and meat tray. The cheese was described as "old world", which was interesting given the Leprechaun green herb-veined cheddar type cheese. No matter. The pig ears and salsa was probably the best thing we ordered (if you like that kind of thing). Served with three different salsas and piping hot. Our main courses came out pretty quickly. I went with the filet topped with wild mushrooms. It was cooked perfectly and did have amazing flavor. He ordered the lamb chops which were under cooked and didn't have much flavor. In fairness (maybe) the server did say they were seasoned and grilled with only salt and pepper, but still would have expected more flavor. The creamed spinach was whole wilted greens with garlic and cream. I really don't have any parting thoughts, other than I was disappointed and underwhelmed for the restaurant's prices.

Wonderfully prepared meats. Excellent service. Some of the sides could use a little tweaking.

This place is ridiculously overpriced. If the prices were 1/3 of what they were I would give it a four star. Get ready to pay $45 for an average piece of meat. The quinoa chile relleno sounds great but is mostly a flavorless pile of quinoa. I often pay these kinds of prices but expect a superior dining experience. As it was we looked pretentious taking family out for an expensive but truly mediocre meal. pros: The service was fine and the beer was only five bucks...but that's a low bar any pub could meet.

My sister has been here before and loved it. We went for happy hour and I was SO impressed. We had the lamb fondue - so unique and tasty! Then we split the mussels prepared with vodka and tomato sauce. So succulent! Great gin and tonics and superb service.

Usually a pretty good place. Good food, great atmosphere. Today: crabby hostess. (usual tho.) "Did you call ahead?" ...Um... it's just 5 o'clock and the place is empty. (Anyway, last time we called ahead, you lost our reservation & we had to pull it up on an iPhone.) Ordered appetizer of Seafood Risotto Fritters. YUCK! ...The waitress said there was "nothing wrong with them" -- so still charged us. Note: menu states --- "Substitutions politely declined!" (...with the exclamation point.) Really????

First, I'm happy to report it's not bar food. But, the restaurant did not live up to the hype. Inside, the surroundings are quite typical or what you find in Winter Park and Fraser. There is a lot of dark wood and emphasis on alcohol bottles. It's very dark, a negative for me. I ordered filet mignon after being assured it was "worthy" and not chewy. Wrong. I could have purchased the same or better piece of meat from King Soopers and grilled it myself, and it would have had more flavor. The grated butternut squash was delicious. The baby potatoes were boring and again, not worth going out for. I ordered a side of roasted brussels sprouts. I'm quite sure this were boiled or improperly roasted. I like mine crisp around the edges, and it appeared there were no edges--they'd been peeled off which can't really happen if you are broiling them. The dessert made me happy, but I've seen it before. It was a giant slice of ice cream cake with oreo crust and caramel filling. By 9:00, pretty much everyone in the restaurant was pretty drunk (it was Friday night) and rowdy. My tab, and I only drank hot tea, was $78 before tip. Half my meal came home for lunch. I'd rather have smaller portions and better quality. I'm psyched we have more choices for restaurants but I think this restaurant can do better. Come on TT. Put a little more effort into your food. I know it's mud season but the place was packed.

I ordered the pork chop which was very good, tender and moist. The side dishes were ok but not terrific. Service was good and the prices were reasonable for the quality of the dining experience.

Chef Alberto hit another one out of the park, with a few errors. It's really incredible to me to find a dining experience of this quality at a place this remote. I used to live in Tabernash, and I think it's fair to say, as Gertrude Stein did, there's no there there. But the Tavern is worth the trip, with a few minor quibbles. The bread wasn't too good. After one look at the menu prices you're expecting hot, fresh baked bread. It wasn't. Not the best start to our dinner. They were out of my first choice of wine (disappointed) but they had my second choice, a "Layer Cake" shiraz that everybody liked. We ordered two bottles and the wine service was just right. Things got rolling with our appetizers, buffalo carpaccio and lobster rolls. The little lobster andwiches were delicious and I got a big chunk of lobster meat in mine that sang with the kind of intense, fresh flavor that was missing the last time i ordered lobster right here on the east coast. A very pleasant surprise indeed. The buffalo carpaccio held its own too, but the meat was shaved beyond paper thin, which I thought brought the dish down. Others at the table disagreed and we had a lively debate on how thin the buffalo should be shaved. Of our four entrees, two were home runs: my "meat lover's" parilla platter and also the buffalo short ribs with gnocchi. Our two companions who ordered Colorado lamb chops and lamb tostadas were satisfied but not as ecstatic. One thought his chops were fatty; the other thought his were a little undercooked. When this was brought to the attention of our waiter, who had been quite attentive up to that point, he sort of dropped us off at the bus stop. But in fairness two of the four chops in question had already been eaten, so it was sort of a grey area. Anyway at that point he seemed to sense we were a tougher-than-usual crowd, and he never asked us how everything was. That's big points off, we all agreed. Tip went from 20 to 15 percent right there, and that's where it stayed. Unfortunate too, because otherwise he was a fine waiter. But at these prices, ($250 for dinner for four with two bottles of wine, two apps, and one dessert) I want my waiter to be a consummate professional, who can master the delicate art of being a liaison between us diners and the chef. A dessert of some sort of lemon and blueberry tart was off-the-charts rich and delicious. One portion was almost enough for the whole table to share, since we were already pretty stuffed from our oversized entrees. Overall the experience left a lasting impression that will not fade soon.

While visiting Granby, Colorado, we drove past, and subsequently read a few reviews on the Tabernash Tavern. The main focus of the menu was steaks, and figured given that it was their focus that they would have an understanding how to properly cook meat. I ordered my filet medium-rare, and when it arrived there was no pink whatsoever; the steak was cooked well. I rarely send food back, but this was a thirty-plus dollar entree. We couldn't find our waitress so I had to ask another server to please find her. When she arrived she agreed that the steak was not even close to medium-rare and would have another steak prepared. Unfortunately, it took twenty minutes for new entree to arrive, which meant that my wife and I didn't eat together. It would have been a nice gesture had they offered us a dessert or discount for the situation, but no; they didn't seem to care.

I stumbled upon this tavern while visiting tiny Tabernash when I drove up from Denver for a concert about two weeks ago. What a treat! It doesn't look like much on the outside, but this place rocks! The bar is cozy, with a cool, casual feel to it. I only saw six taps, but they had Spaten and all others were microbrews....no crap on tap here. The menu is awesome too. It's not just basic pub grub....it's a really gourmet menu, with dry-aged steaks, and all kinds of cool stuff. I got buffalo short-rib stroganoff, and it was amazing! The portion was so huge I couldn't eat it all. They served a little basket of bread with dinner. No basic heat-n-serve rolls here....no sir. They gave two slices of homemade bread...one white, and one was a banana bread that was so good I bought a whole loaf to go! On top of all that, the service was friendly, pleasant, and prompt. If you're in this neck of the woods or just passing through, you can't go wrong at this place.

Full disclosure: This review is two years old. I'm tranferring google reviews to yelp! The Tavern at Tabernash was recommended to us by the hostess at our B&B. She told us we'd need reservations, which was the worst part of our experience. My guy called, and apparently the waitress thought he was a friend of her's pranking her or something, bcs she kept laughing and asking if he was "Nick" and if he had just called her. It was weird and unprofessional. When we pulled in, we were surprised at the facade; the menu had implied gourmet food, but the building looked like a hole-in-the-wall bar. Do not be fooled, though! This was a fantastic place! Turned out, reservations were not needed when we were there; it was practically empty. The inside decor was lovely: cool posters, vintage ski gear, slope signs, etc, but not hokey at all. We got two appetizers: antelope sliders (I used to eat meat back then) and hummus pizza. Both were amazing and well-prepared. Apparently the chef changes his menu every couple of weeks, which probably makes for lots of great experiences if you go often! We got dessert to go (bananas foster) and it was mind-blowing. They also had a great beer list, with lots of belgian ales to try. The prices seemed a little steep, but honestly I think we got bang for our buck. And in resort areas, prices are always going to be a bit high. We had been on the fence as to where to eat that night (which is why we asked our hostess), and we were so happy we went with Tabernash Tavern! It was a great local experience, with unique fare, and superb atmosphere. Highly recommended!

This is our favorite place to go in the Grand Valley. We have never been disappointed by the food or the service. We went most recently about a month ago and was excited to see the back room is finished, it used to just be a just a tent. The room is bright and spacious with very pretty and simple decor. We really enjoyed sitting out back but we also like the decor in the front room. It's cozy and unique. The menu changes often but my companion gets some sort of steak every time we go for dinner and he's enjoyed it every time. I am a bit more adventurous and also have enjoyed everything I have ordered here but the lemon tart with blueberry compote, fresh raspberries and whip cream was to die for! The desserts are as good as the entrees and our total bill with wine for me T&Ts for my companion and that yummy dessert was around $100.00. This is our go-to place for special occasions and we also enjoy a drink and appetizer in the bar.

The hubby and I spent a long weekend in Grand Lake for a wedding and Tabernash Tavern was where we decided to kick our weekend off. After reading all the reviews about the scary hostess, we were so relieved to be greeted by a smiling young lady who was more than happy to show us to our reserved table and did not place any time restraints on our dinner. The atmosphere is adorable! It's like a cozy little ski shack with lots of ski (and other) antiques and memorabilia, but not overly kitschy. Casual rustic elegance is how I would define this space. Very comfortable and a precursor to the comforting choices on the menu. Our waiter brought out a basket of the most delicious fresh baked rye bread and banana bread while we looked over the menu. There were wine recommendations with each item on the menu, which I always appreciate and find helpful. I ordered Lisa's Filet which was a very nice sized and perfectly medium-rare filet mignon served on a sizzling platter with shrimp scampi, pan roasted fingerling potatoes, brussels sprouts and grape tomatoes and a side of Bearnaise sauce. The Bearnaise was on the thick side and not very flavorful so I was glad that it was served on the side as I did not find that the steak needed any such adornment. I also ordered the wine that was recommended as a match on the menu and found it to be very nicely paired. The hubby ordered fresh tagliatelle with wild boar ragu and it was out of this world! The sauce was thick and earthy with a good dose of fennel. The noodles were obviously freshly made and the perfect texture to carry that big bold sauce. I kept sniping bites off of his plate and ended up bringing half of my dinner back to the condo. We loved our dinner at the Tabernash Tavern and can't wait to come back this summer!

I go on here to review about how the horrible hostess told us we had to leave our table at a certain time because she had another table coming in....and look down to see that TWO people reviewed about the same issue in 2010!! This woman must be the owner, right?? There's no way in hell she would keep her job otherwise. Who the heck ever heard of being asked to leave because they need your table for another customer. This restaurant judging by the reviews below, plus those on google and tripadvisor (one of which I wrote--full disclosure), is consistently sunk by this completely bizarre approach to dining and other service blunders. Too bad because the food is good for such a rural area. They are really lucky they are located in a beautiful but tiny and insular town with few to no other options--for sure they would be closed fast anywhere else.

I've wanted to review the Tabernash Tavern for a while now, mainly because I am a bit disappointed by some of the negative reviews this place has received. I realize that some people may be shocked to learn that there is a restaurant in Tabernash (Population 165 as of the last census) that actually is worth making a reservation to get into, but that's the fact, Jack. So yes, you will need a reservation. It's small, only open for dinner, and as far as I can tell, has a devoted group of regulars. I've been here at least a half dozen times, and the food has always been excellent. The menu changes regularly (although I still always find a way to order the Buffalo Carpaccio to start). I've had great meals of of Paella, Bolognese, Braised pork shanks, short ribs, and several others. The wine list and beer menu is fairly compact, but conscientiously chosen. There is usually a local beer or two on draft, typically a Belgian and a German as well, and a handful of others. We went to the Oktoberfest dinner here a few years ago and had a wonderful time. There were huge steins of Spaten, a German inspired menu, and accordion music. There might have been dancing as well. I forget... I probably had a stein or two too many Spatens... But... as I recall.... YES!... I DID have a reservation.

This place was awesome and unexpected. My wife and I went here when we were detoured when we couldn't pass through Rocky Mountain National Park because of weather. I had the sliders (Elk, Boar, and I forget the third meat) and some great beers. Excellent atmosphere and exactly what we were looking for.

This is the secret small town place with outsized quality food Come here if you are near Winter Park or Fraiser. Professional chef, amazing food, and wonderful staff. Make reservations. We could not get in Monday at 7 because they were already full. Went early on Tuesday. Worth the wait.

The menu and food is very well executed. It is quite inventive in comparison to the other venues in the area, in the gastropub vein. The portions were very generous and not too overpriced priced, considering it is in the middle nowhere. We had the calamari, onion rings, shrimp for appetizers followed by the a steak dish and another with meat with mole, salads and soup. Now for the hysterical part. We did not have a reservation, we arrived on a Sunday early evening after skiing at about 5:30. The woman greeter asked greeted and barked her reservation inquiry at us. We said we did not, she then told us we could have a table but that we had to be out the door by 6:30. We were tired and hungry and decided to stay. The servers were friendly and efficient, although clearly stressed out from the reign of terror conditions they must be subjected to. We witnessed an 8 top seated near us told the same prescriptive command on a time limits on their dining experience, the look on their faces was priceless. I could only laugh at the ridiculous behavior of the management. They walked out, I felt like cheering for them! :) Then, two other tables were advised by their servers how much time they had to complete their meal. Incredible.

A few months ago, I had a similar experience here as in the review by the Dr. W below. Frankly -- this place had the worst greeter/hostess that I have ever encountered (don't know if she still works there - but sounds like she might by the recent review below). I wouldn't even bother to share, but I am typing some other reviews and we were talking about restaurant service this weekend while dining with friends and my wife and I both recalled our trip here as the most unfriendly in our recent past. I am glad that I now have a forum to share. My family and I have a second home in Winter Park and we are there often. On the recommendation of two friends, I went there with my family (my wife and two kids -- ages 9 and 6). We went there off hours (5:30-6:00 PM) and off-season (October). When we walked in the place was nearly empty (only a couple of diners and no one waiting). The hostess looked us over, asked us if we had a reservation (we didn't) and told us it would be a 2-hour wait. I wish I could comment on the food -- but we didn't stay. My friends say the food here is good (not great), but if you have kids, if you don't have a reservation, or maybe if you just look funny, don't bother going -- unless you have thick skin and the patience to wait. Otherwise, I highly recommend skipping this one for some of the other places close by in Winter Park -- Hernandos (long wait - great Colorado-style pizza), Cheeky Monk (at the Winter Park Base), and the Sushi place next to Rudi's Deli are all winners in my book.

The food is great we go every time we are in Winter Park. We love to sit at the bar because the bartender is awesome. The hostess is nasty but if you can get by her you will have a nice evening. Tonight we had a reservation for 7 and requested to sit in the front which they said yes to at the time of the reservation. When we arrived the nasty hostess said no even though the front was empty. She really ruins the place especially when you compare her to other staff. I give the place 5 stars but I have to remove one for the hostess.
