I would expect this kind of thing from a business that had been open a week. This restaurant has been open for several months now. To start out we were seated and brought waters. We then asked for a drink menu, and I selected some wine to have with dinner. I was told that the bottle of wine I selected was no longer carried, however they had one listed for three times as much that was the same type. I declined the wine and their bait and switch tactics. The menu itself is very limited, and had things crossed out and written in ball point pen ink. The crossing out was inconsistent between menus even. After 20 minutes or so the server came back and took our order. We ordered salads, two steaks medium rare, vegetables and a dish for our child. About a half hour later our salads appeared. The salads were mixed greens and about three bites each. This turned out to work in the restaurant's favor since our skimpy salads were followed two minutes later by our entrees. Our salads, however miniscule, were still being eaten at that point so the server had to set our entrees off to the side. When we got to the entrees our steaks were overcooked and the children's entree wasn't even correct. It took our server 20 minutes to check back so instead of sending it back we ate it. The steaks despite being ordered medium rare were medium on mine and medium well on the other. The vegetables that came with the entree were cold and undercooked, and barely seasoned. Once I finished eating the server miraculously reappeared and took my plate, leaving the salad plates and the other two entree plates sitting there until presumably after we left. I tipped the server enough to cover the income taxes on our order... which is horrible considering I usually leave at least 20%. This place has wrinkles to work out. Don't have items on your menu that you don't have. Don't have horrible amounts of time between ordering and getting salads. Don't bring the entrees out 2 minutes after bringing the salads out. Check back with the customers within a few minutes of getting the entrees to ensure they are correct. Take the empty plates as they are emptied. Don't let the water glasses get empty before they are topped off, especially after the aforementioned bait and switch off the drink menu. If you're going to be this bad, just inevitably close like every other restaurant in this town.

I would rate this at a current 2.5 solid. I was happy to see a new restaurant pop up in Sterling, offering a little something different. However, I think that there are still a few wrinkles to iron out. I requested to take-out my dinner. I'd been on the road all day long, and as inviting as the restaurant looked, frankly, I just wanted to go relax with a book, and not worry about keeping my napkin from sliding to the floor or falling asleep and faceplanting myself in my dinner. I was instructed to wait in the area with the bakery case, and "someone" would take care of me. After several minutes of standing there, int he semi-dark, fiddling with my menu, "someone" came and asked if I'd been taken care of. Nope! So, a server was dispatched to take my order. She was efficient and did get my order in quickly and brought it right out. No lingering! For my dinner, I had: French Onion Soup ($5) -- pretty good, slightly over-salted, a common F.O. mishap. The overall flavor was very good! Somewhat small portion; half of a take-out coffee cup size. I would've hoped for at least 3/4 full for the price. But kudos for getting the melty cheesy crouton in the takeout cup. Caesar Salad, small order ($4) -- methinks there is some confusion as to what makes a "Greek" and a "Caesar" salad, since I definitely was given the former. I even double checked my ticket. Nope, I ordered a Caesar. The Greek did not have the promised olives on it, which (had I ordered a Greek) is the main reason I want one. The greens were fresh and crispy, and the dressing was fine, with a good amount of feta in it. I couldn't tell if it was homemade or bottled, but I have an idea it's bottled. Broccoli (a la carte) ($3) -- states it comes prepared in brown butter. Nope. No brown butter ever saw mine. Just basic steamed broc with some sort of seasoning shake on it. Would certainly not order again. At least not for $3, when I can buy and steam three pounds of broc at home for the same price. I have a biscotti (41, large) to eat and a peanut bar ($1.50)...I'm hoping that the desserts bring up the level of the meal. They look pretty darned good! While it wasn't by any means a bad meal, it either wasn't what I was expecting from the menu descriptions or what I had ordered. The service was somewhat poor for the high number of staff and empty restaurant. I'm putting it down to a new establishment that isn't yet used to the service patterns (or customer expectations). I think that with a little tweaking, training of staff, and attention to detail, they've got a sure fire winner here!

If you're yelping in this area --- Give Old Town Bistro a shot! I was coming to see a customer in Sterling and called ahead to ask him to lunch. I thanked him several times for picking this place by the time we were finished. I had a brisket sandwich that was better than I've had in several BBQ joints. There was plenty of meat, it was tender without too much fat, the sauce was tasty and the roll was lightly toasted, soft, crispy where I like it and soft. My customer ordered a burger and was specific to ask for his caramelized onions to be well-done. The sandwich came out perfect and he loved it. I was actually jealous of him for those onions and suggested to the server that they would be a perfect addition to the brisket sammie. The 3rd at our table had a grilled corned beef sandwich. It looked like something that I would have loved, too. He thoroughly and completely enjoyed it. It was juicy and stacked just high enough with perfectly grilled rye. I ordered a side of the Fried Corn Balls, just cuz I wanted to see what the heck it was, and my company was paying so another $2 wouldn't matter. They were totally different than anything I've had and, guess what, we loved them, too! I understand that there may have been startup issues for some folks. My customer even mentioned that they had had some mishaps in the early going. But, as you can tell, I would love to have the opportunity to go here more often. The only disappointment is that I'm likely to never be in Sterling for an evening, so I won't have an opportunity to enjoy the cool bar that they have in the back. It was decorated very nicely, but the cool feature is that they left one of the garage doors (the place used to be a GM dealership closed down by the government Buyout) that I can imagine being open to the sidewalk on a nice summer eve.

Such an amazing place! They even have gluten free options. My husband I have been there a few times now and always walk away pleased. The staff Is extremely accommodating. We ended up giving them a personalized order and it turned out delicious. The amount of effort that goes into their food and customer service is crazy :) Also love their cafe and lounge with the bar. Definitely going back!

What a surprise in little Sterling! Went for the excellent coffee in the morning and came back for dinner. High quality, fresh cuisine. Friendly, understated service. Highly recommended. Compares favorably to top Denver restaurants.

Our waiter Jordan was very nice and attentive. We shared the Chilean Sea Bass and the Old Town Bistro Chicken. Both were delicious with very good sauces. The chocolate hazelnut gelato was Delicious too!

Arrived and seated by manager/owner. He promptly said we'd be waited on by a young lady who was already frazzled. Ordered drinks. Had to beg, borrow and plead for more. Couldn't get her to wait on us. Table behind us left upset. There's our clue. Ordered dinner. This was actually funny. Dinner came out. Prime rib with a potato. Asked nicely. (!) where our salads were. Finally (!) flagged down owner and (nicely) asked if we could have some au jus and horseradish. He was pissed (not at us) when we asked about our salads. The girl seriously brought our check in the middle of dinner, never said a word about the fact he comped or drinks. No apologies. Temper tantrum. Ugh.

I had an awesome experience here! I ordered the pastrami sandwich, and it was very tasty. The tomato basil soup was also delicious. I finished up my meal with the vanilla frap which was also a great decision! Great service, great atmosphere, great place!

Ok so it is a nice place with decent staff and an eager chef, but the flies! Their are flies swarming in the entrance way along with flying around in the dinning room. I felt like I was eating in an outdoor bbq picnic. It make me wonder what the kitchen looks like right now. The food look great, but the flies have really ruined my experience. Very sad :-(

I ordered their special salad with all those berries and walnuts, it was really good. Service was fast for how busy it was and it looked like this where a lot of locals came. I'm not sure how many people visit and hangout in Sterling, but if you want a decent lunch place, this is it. I also ordered the corn nuggets, which were like deep fried creamed corn. I would pass on the nuggets, didn't get those. They have a lot of sandwiches, some bbq dishes and lots of salads to choose from. You'll probably spend $15 here with a drink for lunch.

Stopped in Sterling for lunch while on a cross country road trip vacation. We made a pact to spend our money at small businesses and avoid any national chains, which is sadly getting more difficult to do. Greeted warmly and seated immediately, not always the case for a table of six. Our server was so pleasant and attentive. The food arrived quickly and everyone enjoyed their dishes. The loaded baked potato soup was very tasty. I ordered the small steak salad, which was a meal itself. We never had to ask for refills on water or other beverages. All in all a great lunch experience.

I found a gem in a small town almost 2 hours from Denver. They offer gluten free (pasta, salads, chicken marsala and gluten free buns). They were very helpful on the phone prior to my arrival-I called first to make sure they had gluten free since it popped up in my search but I could not find a review about it. I sat in the bar area-neat room with a trendy bar. The owner must be a bourbon fan since he has makers, larceny and a few others that most people would not know about unless they had been to Bourbon Country (Yes I was Louisvillian for 2 years) I am in town to conduct training in Fleming-I developed laryngitis prior to my arrival in CO-I literally had no voice by the time I arrived at Old Town Bistro. The bar tender-Kari was very understanding and quickly learned to only ask me yes or no questions! Too bad I overheard her saying she was not going to be working there much longer. :( She was very good. I ordered a salad (Greek wedge minus olives) and baked potato for my meal and a hot tea. I also ordered a meal to go for my lunch tomorrow. (Read above, my training was in Fleming=NOTHING THERE) I ordered the spicy alfredo with gluten free noodles a side of veggies with gluten free penne. I sneaked a bite prior to putting it in my hotel room fridge. They actually cooked the noodles very well-al dante-not mushy. I am excited to re-heat it and eat it tomorrow! The service was excellent and the food was pretty tasty for a small town so far from dinner.

I came here on a recommendation from a friend, actually I was brought here after working 12+ hours in sterling by a friend/colleague. He assured me that I would love the place as they have Dales Pale Ale. If you don't spend much time in sterling then I'll let you in on a secret, finding a decent beer in this town is nearly impossible but this place has you covered. We were greeted by a very friendly young bartender and she promptly brought us our Dale's. Yes, a great beer after a long day. We then ordered the rocky mountain oysters, I always find that these are the tell-tell of a restaurant. Before they arrived the owner (I assume) stopped by our table and informed us that we received the last two Dale's Pale Ale's and they were now out. He apologized and offered to go out in the cold to fetch more. Knowing that there was plenty on tap we declined his offer and went on with our dinner. We both ordered the rib-eye with broccoli and a caesar salad. The oysters arrived and were delicious, assuming you are into these things. Then followed the salad which was also on point. Then the main entree. The steaks were beautifully cooked and tasted great, other than being cooked on a griddle I couldn't complain. Everything tasted great and the service was awesome. The offer to fetch beer was a true testament for this place in my mind, I mean who am I? How do I rank? He could have just as easily said choose a new beer but he did not. So all that being said they receive a subjective 5 stars, if they were in denver it might be a 4 because although the food was very good, it wasn't as good as it gets. But in sterling colorado, it truly is as good as it gets!

Easily they best food in Sterling. The quality of the food is similar to nice restaurants in downtown Denver but at half the price. The dry aged sirloin is amazing, one of the most flavorful steaks I have ever had and the caesar dressing on their salad is outstanding. The only thing that keeps this restaurant from being 5 stars is the service. The service is okay but the servers not provide a 5 star treatment, they all are very nice though.

Had one of the best Chicken Marsala's I've ever had here. My husband had the sliced beef plate--which he said tasted and looked like processed lunch meat. I think they could do better on that beef dish. (Make it more home made.) I had a Caesar salad that was mediocre, I believe they should not chop that salad so small, and put a little more garlic & flavor into the dressing. The reason I'm giving it 5 stars is because Cynthia, Brandon and the other slender chef in the kitchen were very friendly---and extremely helpful. They made us feel very welcome. Cynthia & Brandon especially. They really stuck out in my mind in as far as caring for the restaurant, and looking after the customers and truly enjoying their job. They really made a profound impression on me. Bravo to them for being so friendly & personable. I believe that the kitchen staff is capable of making excellent food. The chicken Marsala was excellent, so why not everything else? We had mixed drinks that were excellent. Also, the bakery had delicious items. Homemade, delicious. Pineapple upside down cake was excellent, chocolate ganache covered cake was delicious....although the presentation could be improved.

Mediocre food for a stupid expensive price. When we first moved here I was excited about this place but the more we visited the more I realized it is a rip off. Their bakery is really good, and their coffee is good, but hot java express up the street is better quality and price

This is where to go if you are in Sterling. I had the bacon-wrapped petit filet with house salad with a greek dressing and mashed potato for sides. My wife had pork chops in an orange sauce, a bleu cheese wedge salad and baked potato. We finished with spumoni gelato (OMG). Never expected food this good just a bit east of the rockies. Steak was cooked to order (medium rare and I know what that means) pork chops were tender and the orange sauce was understated, very flavorful and didn't interfere with the chop. Salads were perfect for sides. We talked to one of the co-owners (Ted) because we were so happy with our meals. He's clearly the person responsible for the well-executed meat dishes. Thanks again, Ted.

Wonderful find in NE CO. $2 beers Monday thru Thursday and the largest Reubens I've ever seen. Definitely worth a stop.

Stopped for lunch driving from Iowa to Denver. We saw previous Yelp reviews and decided to give it a try. So glad to have found a classy sit down place with good food and elegant clean restrooms. Tge steak salad was enormous and very good. We'll be making this a regular stop when we drive through.

Visited the bistro during Pedal the Plains. An extra couple of thousand people in town for the ride. Clearly they were not ready for the extra flow of people but with in 20 minutes they had called in more girls. The food was tasty, the service was pleasant and timely. Everything from burgers to spaghetti. Our server did a great job making us happy while she practically ran from table to table.

Good food and friendly service. The fish sticks and sweet potato fries were great. We bought a berry pie and loaf of pumpkin chia bread from their bakery and they were both wonderful. Bring in your jacket, it was cold inside.

Traveling across the USA & were searching for dinner. I was really happy with mixed greens salad with avocado & other great toppings. I wish there were more vegetarian options but the salad was nice. Nice service & atmosphere. My friends also enjoyed their meals.

My review is one down from average because this place pretends to be more than it is. I spent $20 here and wished I'd eaten at the trailer/foodcart across the street that said it served South Carolinian fare. I went away hungry from the Bistro. The french onion soup came in a teacup sized ...cup. What's worse, it had a polygon shape that was smaller than the spoon they gave me, so the spoon would not fit in the tiny corners. That teacup of soup was NOT labeled a cup and it was $8. It was good tasting, but after soup and salad I ordered a second cup and still went away hungry after eating everything. The salad I ordered was supposed to be the Italian fresh mozzarella, tomato and balsamic dressing one, forget what it is called. It also came with spinach. The spinach was fine & good thing that is what I wanted. OK it is out of season but the tomatoes were particularly flavorless and mealy, the cheese was the same as on the french onion soup and it was ... tough & stringy. The dressing (?) was too vinegary-harsh and had the viscosity of motor oil. Not sure if it was supposed to be that way but I have had balsamic vinaigrette many times in other places and at home, and this did not please. The interior space was lovely and the crowd was well dressed and lively. Maybe I didn't spend enough for lunch, I don't know.

This place is incredible! We travel alot for work and dine out everyday. Although they were closing in 20 minutes the bartender welcomed us enthusiastically and invited us to dine in the bar area. She told she would be there cleaning and closing out for at least an hour. I don't usually stay at a restaurant that is closing within the hour because I understand they would like to go home at a decent hour! We ordered the prime rib and the meal was OUTSTANDING!! Our server was Monica and if there was a reward for greatest customer service ever she would take the Gold! Thanks for incredible food and above and beyond excellent customer service!!

Best place to eat in Sterling (not a hard battle but well deserved). The french onion soup was delicious, although I should have ordered more - a bowl instead of a cup! The pulled pork sandwich was huge, but a little dry with tough meat. The wait staff was extremely attentive and I loved the little coffee shop and bakery inside the restaurant as well. The chai latte was wonderful!

Nice little breakfast place. Good food. Only complaint is their house made jams they serve. They are loaded with some kind of gelatin or thickener. They all taste like filling from hostess pies. Blech.

We came here around 1pm on a Saturday afternoon, the restaurant was about 75% full. It took the water over 5 minutes to come ask for our drink order as he was too busy flirting with the table in front of ours. Another table (who had been there before us) got up and left and the manager came and took our drink order. I ordered the French onion soup. It was a little too salty but otherwise good. The portion size could've been bigger for $5. My son had the kids Mac n cheese with a side of fruit. We requested the corn bits but they were all out. The Mac n cheese was delicious! Big spiral noodles and actual melted cheeses- we all took a bite and agreed it should be on the adult menu. The side of fruit was excellent too- raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, apples, and bananas ., all fresh, not your typical canned crap. Other orders at our table were the grilled mushroom and cheese sandwich, good but the mushrooms were a tad over cooked and they were out of sourdough bread which it is usually made on. The Italian sub was just ok- it included bologna which I didn't like, on the menu it just says "Italian meats" . Lastly we had the pulled pork. The bun was soft, the meat wasn't over done, but it was a little dry. The sweet potato fries were thick but crispy on the outside. Overall, I would eat here again. The service was the only real complaint. That and they ran out of a few items.

I was looking for the "other" breakfast place driving back home & I thankfully came across this charming restaurant. The staff are delightful, the prices are awesome, and most importantly, their delicious food is going to give me the fuel to continue my cross country trek. This place is a great place to stop if you are driving through the city of.. Wait, where am I?!

Is ok. Service was slow but friendly. Atmosphere is poor, there are always flies that buzz my face while eating and the sun from the windows it too bright and too hot. The food is just OK. The coffee has always been excellent. I love that there are more options for places to eat in Sterling but they could do a little better.

I think the early reviewers must have visited when the bistro first opened, as I heard they had a bit of a tough start. I'm pleased to report that they seem to have things all ironed out. I had lunch here today with my mother who is notoriously critical of restaurants and we were both quite pleased with our meal choices. I ordered the Reuben and it was really tasty. I've found sometimes that the meat in Reubens tends to get dried out and a bit tough. Not so today! My sandwich was really juicy, tender and quite flavorful. Mom had a chicken breast sandwich with pesto. She said it was really good too and the chicken looked really nice and juicy. As we were getting ready to leave, our waitress (who I actually think may have been an owner) gave me a box with a treat for later. I just opened it and its a really yummy cinnamon bun from their bakery. I did glance over the dinner menu and would love to come back on my next trip to try a steak. Both the bone-in ribeye and dry-aged sirloin caught my eye. I was born and raised in Sterling but have been away for many years. I have to say, based on today's experience this is the best restaurant the town has ever had.

This is in Sterling. If I were in Denver I may grade this restaurant more harshly. However from what I've seen there is nothing else in town that even compares. The prices are that of a steak house, the service... That of a steak house, they have a great beer selection for Sterling and an atmosphere far better than anywhere else I've been here. If you want a good meal check it out.

The first time we tried to go to to this place for dinner (admittedly a bit early, approximately 4:45 PM), we were told by a distracted young hostess busy playing on her cell phone that she couldn't seat us in the dining area until 5:00. We promptly left and went elsewhere. Our biggest mistake was trying again. An unprofessional, unfinished menu with several things scribbled out or written over (and not even consistent between the menus my boyfriend and I received), overpriced and tiny portions, and an overall atmosphere of "Hey, we know this is a small, crappy town--but we're going to put cloth napkins on the table, try to dress up your mediocre food and pretend we're classy!" Nothing special to see here at all, at least on the dining room side. I admit I'm curious about their bakery, but after the service and food we received for dinner, I don't think I'll ever be curious enough to go back.

Easily the best restaurant between Lincoln and Denver. The Bistro is just one year old and is really beginning to hit its stride. Their daily specials are always superb. I'm a steak guy and the quality of their beef is unmatched in this area. They also have by far the best wine list around. There are few lounges outside of the mountains here in Colorado where you can enjoy a beverage fireside (gas). Have I told you they have an on-site bakery and therefore serve the best dinner rolls available anywhere. The menu theme is Italian and it's solid. If you travel I-76 this is a must do.

Excellent lunch and service. When we had a special request and asked if that was possible the waiter's response was, "Anything is possible." Love the attitude. Chopped salad was fresh and more than two of us could handle.
