We were traveling on I-70 on our way to Colorado Spring and found this cute little place about an hour away from our destination. The four of us ordered breakfast sandwiches on croissant and wheat toasts, pancakes and over easy eggs with bacon, toasts and harsh brown. We were all very satisfied with our meals. The pancakes were fluffy and had a light caramel flavors that tasted wonderful even without syrup. The homemade wheat toasts had a rich flavor without the grittiness that turn some people off. The bacon, eggs and harsh brown were well cooked and not greasy. The sausage patty on my bf sandwich seemed homemade and had a slight rosemary taste to it. Before we left, we also bought their pastries to go: blueberry, apple and cherry turnovers plus a brownie. The brownie was fudgy with a rich chocolate flavor without being too sweet. We didn't get to eat the turnovers until two days later. After reheating them in a 300 degree oven for 15 minutes they still tasted fresh and crumble-in-your-hand flakey. The owner Michael was very friendly and will be happy to tell you all about the area if the restaurant is not too busy. Will not hesitate to go back if we visit that area again.

A very random choice while on a bike trip from Palm Springs to Wisconsin. Our little gang was tired and hungry, saw this little cafe in Simla and stopped for a bite. We received gracious welcome from Jodi, who shared her guest books and offered some great suggestions for lunch. Food was fresh and tasty, the bakery was the best! I had a BBQ bacon cheeseburger and a cherry turnover. A pleasant find in the middle of nowhere. mmmmmm!

While taking the short cut on Rt-24 from Limon to Colorado Springs, we stopped here for coffee, as the place looked interesting in a small town, and there are not very many choices along this route. The coffee was great; but, the winner was the bakery. Terrific turnovers, pastries, and breads...all fresh baked and very light and tasty. They have meals (open 8 AM-8 PM) and we'll have to stop at mealtime to try them. This trip, we left with three boxes of pastries for the family to share the next morning (the the morning after, as it turned out). If you drive this route, give them a try; they're friendly and do a great job.

We stopped in 20 minutes after close. The cook was in the parking lot talking to someone. As I pulled on the locked door she asked if we were hungry and wanted to eat (2 adults and 3 kids) we replied yes and she proceeded to unlock the door sat us down and handed us all menus. Blown away by the incredible hospitality and service we all had really amazing meals and couldn't believe the service. This usually doesn't happen anymore. This is just the kind of place you want to find when driving through a little town in America. Awesome food, awesome service and hospitality second to none. As if that wasn't enough she gave us a little to-go bag of pastries for our morning breakfast at the racetrack we were headed to. I will always make time to stop here when passing by

Needed to get out of the Springs for a bit so took a drive out to the country and stopped into the Hen House after reading the reviews and I am very happy I did. It's small, quaint, country and all those other good things you look for when in need of some good home cooking and small town friendliness. I made sure to try a bit of everything. Side salad was plentiful, super burger was delicious and crisp yummy fries too but I needed it boxed to be sure I had a chance to try some pie - coconut cream to be exact. Scrumptious! I enjoyed listening to a group of local old country boys gab about trucking and such. Cracked me up a few times. All in all its a great place. Great food, nice people in a quiet small town. Stop in if you have the chance, you won't be disappointed.

Quaint little restaurant, on the side of the road, in a small town. Family owned and operated. Homemade dishes, made with love. They accommodated my vegetarian diet, turning the turkey melt into a veggie melt, served on homemade bread. My side was a spinach-artichoke soup that was to die for! Homemade desserts are offered. My cousin had the Apple pie; I choose pecan. Both were excellent, with melt-in-your-mouth, flaky crusts. I would highly recommend the Hen House to anyone traveling through!

Excellent little diner. I was passing through town and decided to stop in. I was greeted with a warm and genuine smile. The food was great and service second to none. I also found out that they have an assortment of made from scratch baked goods that words can not describe. I left full, happy, and wishing I lived closer.
