Maybe their breakfast is better than their lunch? I was totally unimpressed by the food, although the decor & atmosphere are really cool. my husband drove by here on a Sunday, & the place was packed. We decided to try it, and all I can say is Meh. The red cheese enchilada was so overcooked, I could barely get a knife through it. The red sauce was ok, although it tasted like it was made with chile powder instead of chile pods. The chicken taco was bland, & the guacamole on the tostada tasted like the pre made stuff you get at the grocery store. I'll go back to try the breakfast to see if it's any better because I don't see myself eating lunch there again.

Great cozy local place with a hometown feel. It's like being in your grandmas kitchen eating beans and chili. Food is good with nice portion size. Coffee is okay. Beans, enchilada, rice and red chili is good but not great. Very homey!! Overall the ambiance is what did it for me not the food.

I have heard the food is good, but, the service is rude. That was no lie. I have NEVER been treated so poorly in a restaurant. I went for Lunch, excited to try it. I got a phone call and was told to go outside, which I did. The waitress told me, "we posted a sign," I hadn't seen it. I said, "me going in and out was probably more distracting then using my phone." I was then publicly scolded in front of all the customers. I gave two stars because the food I was allowed to eat was good, but, did not make it worth it. I told them I put my experience on Yelp, I got kicked out, but, got my money back. Just a very weird experience.

First I think the positive reviews are fake, Second this is a terrible spot with mediocre food and worse service. The green chili is so hot that it kills your taste buds for the rest of the meal. The coffee is just dark water. The eggs are ok, but how do you mess up eggs? Go eat somewhere else and save yourself from the misery that is Martinez Cafe.

Contrary to what a previous review said, I feel like all of the negative reviews on here have to be fake! My husband and I have eaten at Martinez Cafe probably two dozen times in the last few years and we have NEVER left unhappy. The food is absolutely delicious and I've never know the waitress to be anything less than friendly. She always remembers us, we just moved back to Pueblo after 4 years away and she asked what happened to us since we had been such frequent customers prior to that! Our most frequent meal here is breakfast and I love the Mexican breakfast with green chile, beans, fried eggs and potatoes. The red chile is equally delicious especially with their tamales. We've lingered for a third, fourth cup of (strong, flavorful) coffee and succumbed to their delicious (pretty sure homemade?) cinnamon rolls and again have never felt pressured to leave or encountered rudeness. The older lady in the kitchen is also as sweet as pie and loves to hear you compliment her food! You get what you give I guess; so many people go out to eat with a chip on their shoulder before they even sit down. Treat people with kindness and respect, hey maybe even joke around with them a little, and 9 times out of 10 you'll get the same in return! Martinez Cafe we love you, my only complaint is I can never remember the days you're closed!

Four of us stopped in for a quick late breakfast and found exactly what we were looking for at the Martinez Cafe. True to the reviews that claim the girl who runs the dinning area is quick to dismiss dinners soon after they finish their plates, we encountered two smiling ladies sitting out front who told us "they kicked us out!" Apparently they had over stayed their welcome. Once inside, we were seated immediately, all four of us at a table for two. Our waitress quickly scrambled the extra seats, passed out menus and took our drink orders before we could sit. Looking around, I noticed the official capacity posted as 16. All seats were filled. It was soon apparent that our waitress was responsible for everyone and everything in the dinning area We all decided on different variations of breakfast plates smothered in green chiles. Our orders appeared just a few minuted later, all correct and all hot 'n tasty. The green chiles are absolutely fantastic! After we finished, it was no problem getting separate checks. The food is fantastic and service is friendly and fast. Just be prepared to move on out after you finished, so those next in line can get theirs too!

If I could rate it a negative I would. One of the worst places on Pueblo to eat. The wait staff is rude and very inattentive. It took15 minutes to have someone take our order. We got our drinks then waited, waited and waited for our order to be taken. Instead of taking our order directly to the kitchen to start cooking/serving, the wait person sat down and visited with another table. As she sat with them, she was cursing and paying no attention to anyone else. After waiting 10 minutes we advised wait person to cancel order. Paid the extremely high price of $3 for a coffee that was not even touched and left!

Have made me the wrong order and when I asked for them to fix it they told me to pay and leave. I told them I won't pay for something I didn't order and then the owner called the cops on me. The food and service here is not worth it, stay away especially if you get the short get haired lady, run away or she'll call the cops if she gets the order wrong.

Our go-to breakfast place. Love the breakfast burritos! Be willing to take your time. One server works the entire restaurant. I would not recommend this place for large parties (more than 5). The coffee is not great, but the food makes up for it.

Martinez used to be located on Santa Fe in central Pueblo, but then they moved to this tiny, obscure location on the west side of town. I went to the old location many times and really enjoyed the food, and I've eaten at the new location a couple of times. Today I happened to be in Pueblo and took the trouble to drive across town to Martinez and arrived about 1:15 PM. They are supposed to be open until 2 PM, but there was no one there. A sign in the window said "closed Wednesday and Thursday", but this was a Friday. Makes me wonder when, exactly, they actually ARE open? I hate it when people who run a business just close up any old time they feel like it and inconvenience their customers who drive several miles only to find the place closed. I won't bother going out of my way to eat at Martinez Cafe again. Since I struck out at Martinez, I checked my GPS for other Mexican restaurants and ended up eating at Herrera's Family Restaurant nearby. The food was great and so was the service.

High dollar food rude bitch waitress. We'll never go back. Makes you feel so unwelcome. A rule for everything. Unfriendly to children and guests. Charges gratuity on all checks because she would never get a tip. Signs says eat your food and get out. Well... we got out for good. Never again. We try to shop local but, a franchise would of been better.

I am glad there are many other choices in Pueblo. The food is ok but it does not justify the behavior.

I'm a total fanatic for Mexican food. THIS is pretty much THE BEST mexican food I have ever had in Pueblo. Born and raised in Pueblo, I left right after high school. All the other restaurants have just been "meh" since I left. This past week, a dear friend insisted that we go to Martinez Cafe. WOW. Truly awesome, authentic, flavorful, perfection... and it is the real deal. I'm a real fan of Red chile, and indeed theirs is exceptional. Enchilada & Tamale are flawless. Yes, there is a social expectation here. No cell phone talking. Leave the toilet seat down. Leave when you are finished. To me, this is common courtesy. If you want fabulous home made food, this is the place. My new favorite!

I'd give zero stars if possible. This place is terrible. The first time I went here, there was no one in the place and they wouldn't seat us until our friend who was parking was physically in the building. The food that time was mediocre at best. Canned beans? Yuck. The second time was much, much worse. I order a Togo order for myself and the people in my office. They were rude on the phone. When I got there I asked to add two beef tacos to the order. They stated it would be an additional half hour to make two beef tacos. I said, really? Ok, nevermind. The woman responded, what do you think this is, Taco Bell? You must be stupid if you think you can get two tacos added to your order in under half an hour. At this point I demanded my money back and she said, intake that back you aren't stupid, you are an idiot. So if you want rude people, piss poor service, and canned retried beans this is the place for you. Stay away! Vomit.

5 star food, 3 star service! Owners are not friendly, they want you to eat and run which is annoying. But the food is amazing! If you want a nice place to sit and visit, go somewhere else. If you want to grab great food in a hurry, this is the place for you!

The food is good, but if you have kids or more than two in your group, stay away. The service here is awful. The sisters are incredibly rude and inconsiderate. We were amazed when they wouldn't let a party of three elderly folks sit at the counter (which was empty the entire time we were there), because the counter is apparently only for singles. And, don't bring your kids. You'll be lucky to even get a table, and the staff will tisk-tisk you the whole time.

Great green chili! Love little mom & pop places and this is one of those gems! Cute and quaint. Definitely not disappointed. Great service too!

Really great place to eat! I would drive for miles for their Martinez omelet, but, lucky for me, they are just around the corner!

If you are ever in Pueblo, you have to go to the Martinez Cafe for breakfast. Great downhome comfort food with a little spice! Not to mention the sauciness coming from the sisters in the kitchen. The service is excellent. Be sure to buy a piece of local folk art while you are there, too.

Great Neighborhood Cafe! AMAZING GREEN CHILE! It's the second generation of the old Martinez on Santa Fe Ave. These gals can cook the best pancakes, crispiest bacon and the best Polk Special you ever tasted! The ambience is superb, the artwork to die for! A lovely place to eat. Very Classy and affordable!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
