Honestly some of the best steak I have ever had. They recommend reservations but you can sit at the bar and tends to be pretty quick. We were greeted and they quickly took our drink orders. Fantastic drinks. They give you a little extra alcohol in your drinks but I'm not complaining! We ordered the fried calamari as an appetizer. That was great. Fiancé ordered the lamb, I ordered the 12 ounce ribeye. Absolutely no complaints from either of us. I asked for my steak to be cooked rare and it was. Very delicious steak. Juicy and seared to perfection. Service was great and the atmosphere was superb. Definitely my favorite restaurant in Ouray. It is a bit pricy but you get what you pay for. 2 drinks, steak, lamb and appetizer. $94 before a tip.

We received horrible service here. We sat at the bar because it was the only way to avoid an hour long wait. One of the bartenders was courteous and friendly; the other was not. It took way too long to get our meal. When it did come, it was obvious that it had just been sitting. I never did get my order of steamed vegetables and we had to ask multiple times for other items. The food was average; not worth the price.

We were in town on vacation and looking for a good steak dinner. We were told to go to the outlaw. We had to wait for about 45 minutes for a table, on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant has a rustic theme, and a piano player who played everything from Mozart to Mötley Crüe. The food was amazing. I had the special, a strip steak covered with onions and mushrooms, served with vegetables and choice of potato, and soup or salad. My daughter had shrimp linguini with a salad. The portions are big and we had trouble finishing our food! Our bill was about $45.

My wife and I ate here three times in the past two weeks. Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. Great staff...easy and laid back...exactly what we wanted on our vacation. Highly recommended and our best dining experience in the Durango/Silverton/Ouray area. Will definitely be back. Also, the pianist (who doubles as a Jeep tour guide) was great.

Great Authentic feel and GREAT service. The quality of food is average and the prices overly high for what it is. I had the green Pepper Steak and my wife had the steak special of the 21 day dry aged bone in steak for $40. Her steak had very little flavor and mine had a really good gravy. She dipped her steak in my sauce the entire meal (blasphemy but needed for flavor). The drinks were very good and they had a proper copper cup for the mule. Summary.... great town, great western feel, very average food with tourist pricing.

This place rests on its laurels. We ordered two medium rare filet mignons, both served on cold plates. They were good but not spectacular and on the dry side. Both were stone cold halfway through the meal. The salad was, well, "meh". It was cool, not cold, and the lettuce was an hour away from wilting. The Outlaw has slipped since the Bonatti family owned it. Oh, and I mentioned to the waitress that it was our wedding anniversary and she completely ignored it.

Wonderful food, the server was very knowledgeable about the menu and suggested a nice red wine to go with my perfectly cooked prime rib. I called and made reservations and so we had to wait less than 5 minutes but I noticed others waiting much longer so definitely call ahead.

I spent one night in Ouray and had diner in this nice restaurant. Excellent pork ribs and lamb chops! It was crowded around 8 pm and we had to wait almost 45 min but it was totally worth it! I really liked the side salad (citrus vinagrette was good!).

Go here if you need a steak or some serious protein. But make sure you don't mind the prices - steak $20-30. Cool interior. Service was excellent and I have little doubt that most of their food is quite good. Did I see a review that mentioned ordering a burger - they should have ordered a steak. I admit that I had the spaghetti, which is not the best way to spend your $$ here, but even that was good. I just didn't think my body could eat any more meat that day, otherwise I would have definitely ordered a steak!

We picked the outlaw to dine at because it didn't just serve the same old burgers and chips we'd been seeing for the last week of our trip. We got there and there was a waiting list so i put us down on it and we went to grab a drink whilst we waited. We were told 20 mins but 40min later we were still waiting with others on the list after us being seated first! We were about to just go elsewhere and they allocatrd us a seat after asking if we'd be prepared to share a table with some strangers (not really, we got engaged like the day before we kind of wanted some privacy!) Anyway, i ordered the spaghetti which was nealry $18 and it arrived and the sauce was very watery like the pasta hadnt been strained properly and whilst it tasted ok, i only really ate it because i was starving having waited an hour to be seated. The bill came to about $60 in total which i thought was hugely over priced for what i received. The interior is pretty cool which is the only saviour here and the wine was good too.

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Outlaw restaurant. We were recommended to try this place out and couldn't have been happier. The prime rib was some of the best my husband had ever had, the escargot was very good, the drinks were great, and the salmon dish on special that I had was on point! If you're looking for a place that has a fun atmosphere, great service, and some of the best Western cooking you've ever had the Outlaw is the place for you!

We ordered the new York strip special not realizing that the special was 5 dollars a plate more than the regular new York strip. no price was mentioned and it turns out the bone was cut off and it was rubbed in some type of seasoning. we had 3 steaks and all were dry and tough. 4 cokes and $140. When I complained to the manager he was flippant and said they actually under charged me and asked for my credit card to make up the difference. I have been there many times over the years but they lost me on this one. DONT BUY THE SPECIAL

Ok - I understand that Ouray is not a foodie destination. That said, if an establishment wishes to charge $16 for spaghetti and meatballs, I have a certain expectation that the food will be decent and enjoyable. I recommend The Outlaw to either improve their product or lower their prices. The product that I received did not fulfill the $16 price tag for which I paid, and I left feeling disappointed. The meatballs were bland, dry, hard, and I would be surprised if they were made fresh. Accompanying marinara sauce was too simple in flavor. The cheese ravioli were unremarkable, and a little too al dente. I realize this is a steak and seafood restaurant, but if you offer other menu items, they should meet a minimum standard, especially considering the price that was being charged. I think the prices should be lower or the quality should be higher. That said, service was very good and that restaurant is cute and quaint, with country music playing in the background for nice ambiance. I don't think I would go back.

Great food, but really poor service... Added 20% automatically to our bill for 6 adults and 2 toddlers.. when we told the manager about the crapy service.. she said "we are very busy"

  • Don H.

The outlaw has the ambience you would expect in mining town restaurant. Today I had to burger which was universally on spectacular. Very standard issue. The hotel at the street does a fantastic burger in comparison for perhaps a dollar more. The steak fries are mediocre. I will give them credit for the Peppercorn steak, which was pretty good and appropriately cooked. We bypassed dessert and headed to the local café for scrap cookies I would probably get the place 2 stars They do have some nice kick ass whiskey

We never visit Ouray without dinning at the Outlaw. Not only are the steaks great the Italian dishes are delicious. We had prime rib, linguini and clams. Both dishes terrific. Authentic Western Saloon with Cowboy piano player. Wait staff very friendly and proficient. Pauline took great care to insure we had a great dinner. We sure did.

Great old west atmosphere. Good steaks (I'm from Texas, so I have high standards). Outstanding service (Thanks, Jordan!). Good wine.

The Outlaw is one of our top choices for excellent dining in Ouray. The food is always delicious and the Miner's Mule is our favorite drink at the Outlaw. The old west atmosphere is charming, especially when they have live music. Truly, this is a must-visit restaurant in Ouray. Reservations will ensure you get a table during the busy summer months as this place is a favorite of many!

The piano player..Perfect volume, not intrusive. Food.. The menu was nice, not too long, nice selection. Service was responsive to requests, friendly & attentive. My lamb was cold when it came out, but the mistake was corrected promptly. Drink.. The Miner's Mule cocktail is a Great Twist on the classic Moscow Mule..

  • Gaidge K.

Great cocktails, good environment, adequate food. The pre meal bread was good, after ordering steaks we opted for salads rather than soup, which was a mistake the salads were rather weak being a whopping three leave of lettuce and a wilting cherry tomato, this was sadly the beginning of a sub par meal. Our calamari appetizer was delicious! The marinara was very tasty and the breading was unlike anything I've had. The steak was not worth 30 dollars being fatty and poor quality meat. The cognac sauce was not to my taste but my wife enjoyed it. The dessert was the worst part of the meal at 12 dollars for a brownie ala mode we expected a home made hunk of chewie, delicious, and warm brownie with a flavorful scoop of ice cream. This was not the case, the brownie tasted like a vending machine pastry made by granny b's and the ice cream was freezer burnt. All in all the service was great, as were the cocktails, the atmosphere was good, our steaks were lacking, and the dessert was awful. If you want to enjoy a fun restaurant with pretty decent food get the pasta and steer clear of dessert

Didn't know what to expect here but we were pleasantly surprised. Fantastic filet mignon, bigger than advertised & cut like butter. The piano player added a nice touch to a fantastic dinner. Do make reservations,we went on a Thursday night and it was very busy but the service kept up with the volume.

  • Mike S.

My wife and I both ordered the 10 oz prime rib. It was just fair, cooked medium rare as we both asked but it was pretty fatty and chewy. The sides were ok but nothing special. The salad was good. Price was $50 plus tip for the 2 entrees (no drinks, apps or desserts), which felt pretty expensive for the average food quality, plus the fact that the restaurant is not that fancy and the service was just ok. Next time, we'll stick to more casual and less expensive restaurants when we're in Ouray.

Ate there September 30th. Atmosphere was friendly and fun. Food was decent. Everything in Ouray is over priced for tourists, I guess. Service was fast and friendly.

What a nice little place, music on the piano was very great! The special of the night crab stuffed ravioli was amazing. And the service was perfect never a dirty dish on the table or an empty glass! We will be back

I ordered my filet medium rare and it was blue when it arrived. They did take it back but I lost my appetite after that.

Food was lackluster and re-heated. I got the prime rib and it was sub-par. The wait staff is nice and the atmosphere is ok. Very disappointing for the cost.

  • Brian G.

Pricey I think you pay more for the food because of location than you do because of quality. I certainly didn't feel that the price/quality aligned at all. Service wasn't anything to write home about. We sat down to hear the waiter griping about the last tip he received both when he was standing next to us, but also loud enough that we could hear him loudly behind the bar. We had a larger group and the man that was serving us told us the specials and then was asked by one in our party what the specials were, which was met with a somewhat snotty 'I just told you'. You're in a loud, small packed restaurant, unless you're going to speak with a bull horn you should get used to repeating yourself. The service experience really just made me think it was the bosses kid, or perhaps owners. Food was ok. It wasn't great, wasn't anything to write home about. The roast beef I had was ok, the Au Jus was good, the horseradish sauce was awesome. The fries, which were more quartered potatoes or something along that line were way overcooked like they had been made the day before and just sat under a heating lamp. meh. Edit: I did love the piano player. That was a great part of the experience here.

Fun place--an old-timey saloon feel, complete with piano player. We got a table at 6:45 on a summer Friday evening without issue and no reservation. My husband and I split the 12 oz. prime rib with rice, sauteed veggies, and dinner salads. My kids split the cheese ravioli with marinara. Unlike another Yelper's experience, there were no surcharges for splitting our dishes. All the food was tasty. Nothing extraordinary, but good. We had to keep driving, so we couldn't have drinks. I'd come back here.

We needed a table for 10 on a Thursday night, so it was a bit of a wait being that it was mid-July, and I felt a bit anxious that my impatient family wouldn't be happy about this (ages 5 through 57). Thankfully, the live piano player banged out a couple rollicking good tunes until we were finally seated. Food was good for Ouray, but it was definitely expensive. However, the gimmick of being able to decorate your own piece of wood (that is NOT a euphemism!) if you let the bartender pour you some mystery shots is pretty clever, and my family was able to leave their mark in this tiny town. I ordered the Outlaw Pepper Steak, but I all I remember was that it was tasty and cooked the way I like it: medium rare. I was stressing about my wedding that was to happen in 2 days, so I wasn't very hungry even though we had just hiked Mt Sneffels that morning. It didn't matter what I ate: that entire week before, everything tasted the same to me. At least the family seemed to enjoy their food. The free bread kept coming and coming, and it was consistently warm and chewy (the crust was a bit too chewy, but it was still good). The establishment is fun, comfortable, but loud, and it's in a saloon-type environment. You'll have a good time at this restaurant, and the service, though harried at times, remains friendly and eager to please. For Ouray, it gets 4* (anywhere else, I'd probably give it 3*).

Excellent in every way! The atmosphere is very much the old Wild West saloon style. The food was amazing, big juicy NY strip steaks, with all the fixins. Whatever wanna be "foodie" folks said this was horrible are incredibly wrong and completely out of line. Our service and food were phenomenal just as good as any steak house in NYC. The piano player added a great touch!

I think the Outlaw is probably the best restaurant in Ouray. If course I only come to Ouray in the winter to ice climb, and a lot of establishments are closed for the winter. So I should add to "best restaurant" the caveat "open in the winter". I should also add that there aren't a lot of options in Ouray in the winter, so being the best shouldn't be construed as "over the top amazing" or anything. The place is decent. The Outlaw is reputed to be the oldest "saloon" in Ouray, but don't think if it as a saloon. This is a steak joint known for its steaks and its ribs. The ribs are okay (I'm a southern barbecue snob, so I expect my ribs to be smokey--these are not that style). As for the steaks? They're actually very good. Not the best I've ever had or anything, but very respectable. At least the ribeye is (that's all I ever get). This is old school steak joint style steaks, with the salad and the baked potato. And as exemplars of that style they shine. I've had a perfectly cooked medium rare ribeye at this place. And the prices--for steak--are quite reasonable. The ambiance is interesting--very much in the western cowboy tradition. And as a consequence many of the patrons show up in classic cowboy drag: cowboy hats, boots, Wranglers, etc. I do wish they had some better draft beers, though. Last time I was here I ordered wine even though I'm a beer guy. Some of us don't think Coors Light is, well, good. If you do then no problem for you.

Reading (ok, skimming) through all these reviews I can't help but think of a Cowboy on a horse...the horse almost goes off a cliff and the cowboy pulls the reigns and goes "whoooaaaah boy!" (or "EEEeeeZeeee gurl", if it's a lady horse). This place has pretty good food, FOR OURAY. And the prices are some of the highest, IN OURAY. If this place was located in a decent-sized town the prices would have to be lower (or the quality higher)...but they are a big fish in a little pond and can get away with quite a bit. $30 for a steak that isn't even grass fed?! Seriously? If you want the nicest meal you can get in town, this is your place. However, nothing stands out about the food here...the ambiance on the other hand... Is pretty awesome. It's very "cowboy" and not in a kitschy-"Lone-Star-Steak-House-Toby-Keith-Line-dancing" way, it seems like it's the real deal. We saw a bunch of "cowboys" when we were here, one was standing on the other's shoulders, they were using a hammer...really, there were cowboys here, I'm not making this up, my imagination is not that good anymore (thanks public school system). In summary: Pricey Best food in Ouray (would not be notable in place with more than 10,000 people though...) Odd salad dressing options (ok, I forgot to mention this...your options are "mandarin orange" or "ranch"...that's it. His and hers?) Cowboys.

My husband and I stopped there for a drink when we were in Ouray. Since we were not hungry for a big meal, we decided to order an appetizer, baked garlic with blue cheese and bread. It was absolutely delicious. The decor of the place is nice and staff is very friendly and professional. Definitely worth a try!

Packed and sassy, we waited an hour on a Friday night and it was time well spent. The environs are classic Old West, with timbers and wood aplenty. The front of the bar features a plodding pianist who lacks repertoire and natural talent, but compensates with zeal and determination. It truly adds charm as he mixes Billy Joel with the Charge of the Light Brigade and then onto the Maple Leaf Rag. Despite its small town location, the staff is very well trained, moving meals and turning tables with a zesty persistence that makes patrons feel spoiled and, no doubt, the owner smile with pride and fiscal exuberance. Skilled service means more table turns and more cash in the till We ordered a mushroom appetizer , buttery, with red wine and garlic. Simple, fresh and one of the best mushroom dishes I've ever experienced. The locally sourced New York steak was huge and perfect. A feast of perfect proportion and epically memorable. and because we were staying a couple days in Ouray, we booked a reservation for the next day and had a delightful Groundhog Day recurrence. Lastly the prices are very fair.

My three little ones and I enjoyed dinner at The Outlaw, a family style steakhouse, on a trip to Ouray in late June. I had clam linguine and the kids had mac-n-cheese (again!) and a shrimp skewer, along with some amazing little baguettes to dip in herb-flavored olive oil. We got a laugh out of some of the "boards" nailed all over the walls of the restaurant. One said "Wicked Western Women" and had the name of one of my daughters on it! The kids were really good through dinner up until the piano player started up and then they got a little wild. They literally danced their way out the door (to the Pink Panther theme)! Our waitress was very nice and helpful, the food was slightly pricey but yummy. I would go back.

I have eaten at The Outlaw several times and I enjoy it each time. It is a jovial place with super food and drinks and outstanding service. This last time I had the Roasted Chicken Ravioli with Alfredo sauce - it was FANTASTIC! My boyfriend had the Cognac Strip Steak and it too was delicious. We also had an appetizer of blue cheese melted with roasted garlic and served with toast - FABULOUS! My mouth is watering as I type this. They also had a wonderful piano man playing while we were there. He was super and definitely added to the atmosphere in a positive way!!! While this place is a little more on the pricey side, I would highly recommend that you try it at least once while in Ouray. You won't regret it.

A must visit if you are on an epic western road trip! The atmosphere of this old timey, western saloon cannot be beat, and the food is absolutely incredible! My husband and I sat at the bar as it was a crowded Saturday night, and loved every minute of our experience here. I enjoyed a perfectly cooked steak and Hubs got the lamb chops. Delicious, and worth every single penny. Service was excellent too.

Extremely friendly staff which was great. We were greeted in less than a minute, and got a table in less than 5 minutes. However the food was lacking, I got Chicken D'Angelo with Alfredo sauce with cream of spinach soup, as well as another person in my group, we both found it lacking in seasoning and substance for the amount that we paid for it.

My mom and I managed to break away from the family one evening and have a dinner 1:1 - which was a treat. I like getting my Mom 1:1 whenever I can - which is a rare event these days as time is usually monopolized by work, wife and kids. When mom said we were going to the Outlaw, I was pumped! Although I had not been there in several years, I was anxious to try the Outlaw - esp. given all the glowing Yelp reviews it has garnered. My excitement was a bit muted when we heard about the 20 minutes wait - but that is to be expected when you are nearing 4th of July weekend in Ouray. During the wait, you are able to appreciate the historical 'Old West' feel of the Outlaw that feels like it has not changed in 100 years. After our wait expired, I was a bit bummed as we decided to concede to our considerable hunger and just eat at the bar. When eating at the bar, you immediately notice that the bar staff is very busy - but still very pleasant - despite the breakneck pace at which they operate. The Outlaw's hot, fresh-from-the-oven bread came first - and it was hard to put down. The dinner salad, while nothing special, consisted of nice, fresh greens and one token Roma tomato. The star of the Outlaw for me was the ribeye steak which I thought was was excellent. With the just-right doneness (medium rare, yea!!) and quality spices - I'd definitely recommend the ribeye to anyone in Ouray looking for traditional flame-kissed steakhouse fix. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised as the bar staff knows how to keep it fun, and they know how to look after the dining patrons there - as we never felt crowded or overlooked. Based on our experience, I think it is easy to see why the Outlaw is easily one of the top 3 restaurants in Ouray.

We had dinner here last night. We ordered a steak dish called the Scorpion, and the Trout, huge portions, served with a fresh salad and potatos. Both were yummy! We sat at the bar, service was excellent, and the piano player was a nice touch. Others have said it was overpriced, but the food was good and, did I mention, plentiful.

  • Kevin G.

This place was packed, and though the decorations were pretty cool, it didn't retain any ambiance of a place you'd want to linger in. The food was really mediocre. The baked garlic was a pretty good dish, but we had to repeatedly ask for more bread to go with it (we had a big party, and each time we asked they would bring us a small portion of bread that would be gone in an instant - we had or ask for more bread about 4-5 times). The chicken pasta dish had literally 4-5 small pieces of chicken. It was lame. The kids spaghetti was the same size (small) as the full size portion, which left the teenagers in our group hungry. I got the feeling they were really trying to save money with the portions. Don't bother going here if you are a vegetarian. To be fair, none of us had a steak, and I might have a different review if so. Even so, it was overpriced, uninspired and I was sorry we chose to spend our time and money here.

Get the artichoke appetizer! The lobster was fresh and cooked perfectly. The meat is aged and we ordered it rare. It was cooked perfectly also!

If you are in Ouray and you don't go here, you are an idiot. Place is amazing. I can't even begin to describe the kitsch inside. Total saloon feel and so much history here. Food was downright DELICIOUS. My brother and I ate at the bar and had a nice lady serve us. My friend went across the street to the brewery because he didn't feel like eating steak. What a jackass - boy did he miss out!!

The hostess at our B&B said it was one of her favorite places to hang out. It's clear why now. The staff was attentive, the local beer was first class (Ourayle House) and the food... the food was amazing. Most of their menu is locally sourced in the best way. We had the Baked Garlic to start. There were four massive cloves in a bleu cheese sauce with a loaf of hot bread. Unique and very good set of flavors. Fresh greens in a house salad followed. The wife had the Filet Mignon which she ordered medium rare and was perfectly cooked and tender as can be. It came with a baked potato and sautéed veggies that were clearly fresh and very good. I had a full Rack of Ribs that were literally pull-apart and seasoned perfectly with a nice peppery sauce. I got fries which were basically one whole potato thick sliced and deep brown and the same fresh veggies. We didn't even get to dessert but hearing about the Creme Brûlée, NY Style Cheesecake, and Mud Pie was enough. If they do any of those the same kind of justice they did the rest of the meal, I'll go back just for dessert.

Great place, we were very satisfied. They were somewhat slow due to the crowd, but we're working hard to keep up. Both my Scorpion Steak and Fiancé's ribs were fantastic. I was nervous about the cognac sauce, but it was very mild and great tasting. Steak was super tender, cut with your fork type!

We disagree. The service was so so and my steak was good but not $30 good. My husband said his steak fries were inedible. $80+ for 2 adults and 2 kids. Wouldn't mind paying that much if everyone enjoyed their meal. The layout of the place was poorly thought out. We had to move every time the wait and bus staff came by which was often cause they couldn't get through any other way.

The Food here was mostly very good. Most of our group got the 1/2 rack of ribs, which were pretty good; the salad was ordinary, nothing special. Sides were good. Because of food, i'll give it 4 stars. But be prepared to spend some bucks. Many entrees were in the $20+ range. My hubby and I each had a bar beverage, and the 1/2 rack of ribs. Our group of 6 was charged 20% gratuity automatically (don't most restaurants do that for 8 or more?). So our bill for two was $65-ish. They were hesitant to split our bill in the beginning, because of the busy Friday night, but they did do that. Service was decent. Make reservations..this place is busy! My one pet peeve...if I'm going to spend that much for dinner, come on...have cloth napkins!

For a small town, yes, the food was great, even though extremely expensive. We each got the ribeye, which was very tasty. Their complimentary bread was yummy as well. The salad was just green leaves with 2 cherry tomatoes. The cream of artichoke soup was delicious. For dropping $60 for 2 people, I expected top notch service. Our server dropped off our meal and we never saw her again (except for seeing her in the kitchen playing on her phone and laughing it up with the cooks). My husband had to take his glass to the bar to get a refill on his soda. The bus boy on the other hand was a champ, and was doing 10 x the work of the 2 servers we saw in the place. Too bad he wasn't the one receiving our tip, or we would have left a lot more. Given the choice of nice places to eat, I would recommend Bon Ton, which was unfortunately closed on this Tuesday night that we ventured out.

The piano player is absolutely highlight - gives this place an old-west saloon feel. However, I had a hard time digging out a tip for this talented performer after paying the $$$$ for supper! Wowsa! Instead of opting for the steak I was craving ($30) I got the mountain trout (tasty! and $20). Definitely the highest end menu of places in town but also the priciest. The hostess is a local and was able to give me tips on where to take my kids (she does the perimeter walk of town with her grand kids- you can apparently walk back into town easily at any point on the loop when a little one tuckers out). Everyone was very friendly!

The steaks here are the best ever! I can't wait until I can go back to Ouray and eat here. This is one of the best steakhouses I've ever eaten at. The portions are huge, too. My husband and I split a t-bone and we both were full afterward.

Good food, however pretty pricey for the decor and atmosphere. If you want a slightly noisy, kid friendly restaurant this is perfect, but it's definitely not romantic. Small so if you come later in the evening exPect to wait. We arrived at 5pm and got the last available table. The next guests had to wait. Steak is great!

This place is such a gem! Great service, delicious food, and perfect ambience. Not to mention an amazingly talented piano player.

This review is only for the bar. This was the first place I went to in Ouray and it was a great place to start. The bartender and our waiter were both so nice. There was also a guy playing the piano and taking requests. He even played piano man for us even though he claimed to be really tired of the song. It was just a super fun atmosphere and one that reminded you about the fact that you were in a small town. If I am ever back in Ouray, I will come try the food!

Visited just before Labor Day weekend. I absolutely recommend it. Atmosphere is authentic old west vibe, piano player going strong the entire time. Service was spot on and professional. The food was delicious, well prepared, artfully plated. Prices were on the higher end, but that was no surprise. I would absolutely return here. If I had one critique, it would be that the Outlaw needs to upgrade to linen napkins & move away from the basic cheaper diner-style paper napkin wrapping silverware combo.

Disappointing. Not all it's cracked up to be. Service was good, food mediocre at best. Ribs were over sauced and not smokey like I'd hoped they'd be. Too bad because this place has great atmosphere.

Had a wonderful experience at the Outlaw! The service was amazing! Very, very friendly attentive service. Loved the old western feel of the restaurant... very laid back and fun. Loved the piano music which added to the casual feel of the place. Enjoyed the baked garlic appetizer with the bread... Very hot and fresh- right out of the oven bread with real butter! I had the broccoli and cheese soup which was incredible. My steak was cooked perfectly... served with a baked potato. I wouldn't have changed a thing... except I wish I had more room to try the desserts! :)

Excellent service. Perfect flavor Ribeye and the best king crab legs ever. And a Bulgarian waiter with a master in International Diplomacy

What a fun place! We had the combo plate for two where you pick the steak you want and choice of crab legs or lobster tail. We had ribeye and lobster. The steaks were so tender and lobster cooked perfect. A little pricey but well worth it. We will return!

The rustic ambience is nice, the service was good and the Trout San Juan was acceptable but the prime rib which supposedly is one of their specialties was tough and not very flavorful. One of the others in the group actually had a tough time cutting it with a steak knife. The steaks (filet and one of the specialty steaks) that a couple of the others had were acceptable but not particularly good apparently. The others liked the food at Billy Goat Gruff's better.

The food (Colorado lamb, Halibut) was good but not memorable. Three stars because the service we received was off. I might be nitpicking here but our server needed help uncorking the bottle of wine we ordered and placed it between her legs for leverage. That plus a few other things were enough to interrupt what otherwise would have been an enjoyable dinner out.

Love the garlic bread appetizer. Awesome cream & potato soup. Quality of food was good. Servers are friendly and attentive. Service is quick. Will come back.

My wife and I both had the prime rib sandwich and both were average at best. Her's was especially full of fatty pieces that should have been trimmed. She had to deconstruct hers and trim it herself. Service was good.

This place was crazy crowded on a Saturday night. It's very rustic, very old cowboy style, which I really liked. There was a guy playing a piano, songs you would expect to hear in a very old western movie. The steak was really very tasty. The baked artichoke app was awesome. Local beers on tap. Can't really complain about anything.

This place doesn't LOOK like it would be anything fancy or gourmet, and we first passed it by planning to stroll around Ouray seeing what restaurant offerings the town had, but as we walked by the doorway the smells drew us in. The place looks almost like an Old West saloon, complete with a piano player in front on an upright. But the food is really pretty great. The steaks, veggies, potatoes were all very well cooked. The service was friendly and attentive. The menu is very classic; nothing too creative or unusual but that's part of the Outlaw's charm. It was our favorite restaurant in Ouray.

We had dinner there on 8/17/12 & we didn't need a reservation. The server was very friendly & the food was tasty. The restaurant/bar was busy but it wasn't noisy.

You can't go wrong here. Whether you stop in for a bite to eat or a drink at the bar, the food is good, the drinks strong and the service like you'd expect from a small-town restaurant.

After a long day of heli-boarding in Silverton the outlaw let the illusion of living like kings continue. Great steaks & salads, and they knw how to pour a whiskey drink!

We got escargot, lamb chops, and mahi mahi. Everything was great and the portions were plenty big enough. The desserts are huge and the ambience is alright. We thought the piano man really tied it all together.

We love this place it's a hidden treasure in a lovely town that u would never expect to have such a great place to dine. Went there last summer during our stay in Ouray, loved it so much we went back twice b 4 leaving. Could not wait to get back to Ouray this summer because it's so beautiful and because of The Outlaw. The staff is great and so is the food. The Outlaw could compete with best in any town.

Tasty stakes, good ambiance. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is they seem to intentionally blow grill smoke into the dining room. We stunk like well-done all night. That, and the indoor/outdoor carpet in the dining room that is so pervasive in this town. Heel-mashed food spills in gross carpet. We tried to eat here our first night in Ouray, turned away by a one hr wait. Great looking bar, lots of happy faces. So we made a reservation for the following evening. We had a couple of steaks with garlic mashed potatoes and mixed veggies. You're in Colorado, eat steak, right? Our steaks were high-quality, cooked perfectly to order. The garlic mashed were very tasty, and the veggies weren't annihilated in common steakhouse fashion - bright and crisp. Servers were hard-working and friendly. The whole place is crowded and it's busy, they certainly earned their tips. Look at the olde-tyme photos in the back hall, it's the staff all cowboyed up. The saloon has been continuously operating since Ouray's frontier mining days, it's a real authentic saloon. We'll definitely go back.

The peppersteak is a solid choice; it has character. They smother a 10 oz tenderloin in a cognac sauce with lots of garlic, onions, red peppers and green peppercorns. Cream of spinach soup was tasty and smooth. Good meal. Talked with another couple that didn't have such a good experience. Their steaks didn't get cooked properly. This place may be hit and miss.

Very nice experience! We did not wait long at all and the hostess was extremely friendly. Because a larger group needed our table, she kindly asked if we would move to another table and she would buy us a free appetizer, so not a problem. I had the ribs...very yummy. My husband and son had the chicken alfredo also very good. My oldest son had the scorpion steak which was fantastic. The portions are large. The bread and olive oil dipping sauce was delicious. It is not a cheap place, so if you are eating on a budget...probably not the place to go. Overall, very please with our experience.

I've been here maybe half a dozen times and I alway have a great time. The food it excellent; great steaks and I love the mushroom appetizer. The drinks are also excellent, strong mixed drinks and a surprisingly good wine selection. Nothing better than a nice glass of wine and a well prepared steak. It can get crowded so I recommended reservations. Also the ambiance is great with the live piano player. I will be returning!

The service was good and the staff was friendly. Good wine list. Great garlic bread--hot and fresh. The steaks were excellent. The place was packed for dinner and we didn't have reservations; nevertheless we waited less than 10 minutes for a table and enjoyed listening to the piano.

We arrived in Ouray late in the evening. After checking in to our hotel we set out to get some dinner. We were going to try the brewery in town but to our surprise it was closed at 9pm. So we went to the Outlaw because it was open and it was a pleasant experience. The staff was very welcoming and the menu had some great options. The food was delivered quickly and was quite good, and the price was very reasonable. The next morning I realized I had left my purse. Before opening hourse I was able to get the staff to return my purse. They were very nice about it. Great place!

The Outlaw is a famous and longstanding restaurant in town. It is well known and is crowded with locals and tourists alike. They have great steaks and other food and a fun Old West style atmosphere. The staff is always friendly and the service is fast. They nicely provide bread with a tasty olive oil and herb mix if you are hungry waiting for a juicy rib-eye. They have a large bar with a lot of beer, wine, and other drinks. There is a lot of history to this place. They have old pieces of wood that guests can decorate and they go way back. There is an old piano there and they often have a good piano player on duty. Paul the owner often sings along, and he is a classically trained opera singer with a truly unforgettable voice. He is incredibly knowledgeable and can handle requests even better than the piano player. I have heard him perform classical operas from Germany, Italy, North Korea, Monte Carlo, the Trobriand Islands and the Nunavut region. Whenever he sings, the whole place goes silent and breaks out in to applause at the end. Paul is a very humble and friendly guy and will deny his talent, but if you push him enough he will put on his classic German opera costume and dazzle the whole room. His wife also has a Nunavut costume and tambourine and dances along. rarely, their chef Clay accompanies them with his triangle. Do not miss it. Oh, again, great steaks too.

Visited during "Ride the Rockies." Enjoyed the beer, folks at the bar, and hard working servers in the restaurant. It was busy but they stayed on top of things. Food was fresh and tasty. Above average pub grub for sure.

I always get a little nervous ordering steak in a small venue. I mean, how could the quality of their meat beat some of the larger, better known steakhouses? Well, this little place in a little town beat many places I've eaten; like Morton's, Ruth's Chris, etc. I ordered the rib eye- pink in the middle and it was perfection. Not only is this a very charming little town, it has a wonderful steakhouse to go with it.

Ordered rib eye steak here and it was bland and tasteless. Salad, which came with the meal was literally bunch of uncut leafs and one small tomato.

This is a great place for dinner. We had the best steaks, salads and wonderful service. There was a guy on the piano who we enjoyed listening to during waiting time and dinner. We will BE back

Nice atmosphere on the main street in Ouray. Dinner starts with great bread and oil/herb dipping, prime rib was good and creme brulee was good. I would recommend this place if you find yourself in Ouray!
