After years in college, (years ago) of many "comfort food" meals at the Black Eyed Pea in Boulder (It's now an Original Pancake House.) I was looking forward to having some yummy baked squash and honey rolls when I moved back nearly 3 years ago. There was a Black Eyed Pea location within walking distance of my new Colorado digs, and we went. And it was awful. It closed shortly thereafter and we really never gave it a second thought. But, in my recent quest for a good, fresh fish sandwich, lo and behold, Black Eyed Pea was the ONLY place I could find that had it on the menu. Fresh Fried Cod. With... Yes... the Baked Squash. I put it off for a few days, though, remembering how awful the last experience was. Tonight I just didn't feel like cooking, and we headed over to Northglenn to try us some Black Eyed Pea eats. Quite glad we did. Our server was quite competent, even bringing extra ice for the sweet tea on the first try. He was friendly and cheerful, after what must have been a long holiday Sunday shift. We shared the Seafood Sampler appetizer, with Fried Clams, Calamari, and Shrimp. The clams absolutely hit the spot. I've SO been craving some East-Coast style seafood, and the fried clams were hot, not at all rubbery, and awesome. We also got the aforementioned Fried Cod Sandwich, with the Baked Squash on the side. Yummers. Fresh, hot, not greasy, whole cod fillet, breaded and fried, and the squash was sweet stringy goodness. I was so opposed to this place, what with it being a chain, (and a seemingly low-end one at that) and having the bad experience at the other location... But I'm SO glad we gave it another shot. It's inexpensive, rib-stickin' food, sweet tea, good service, and I'm bound to be back again, munchin' on some Fried Clams.

Slow in every way. Grandpa and grandmas nearly occupied the place. Their type of food.

Service was a bit slow, but not awful. My salmon salad was soggy and smothered in dressing. May be a great place for the elderly crowd, but not where I would patronize again.

One thing that is nice about this place is that for a chain restaurant the menu is a bit different from all the rest. Yes you can get meatloaf just about anywhere but chicken and dumplings, I think not. Southern home-style food is a nice break from all the pasta and steak chains that seem to be the majority.

I went to Black Eyed Peas on Sunday around 8pm. I have never been there but my husband and a friend chose the place because it was close by. The first thing I noticed when I entered was the smell. There was a faint smell of sewer like they might have a problem with their pipes. I was about to tell my husband we should leave but the hostess came by before I has a chance. The smell wasn't in the dining area so I decided to stay. The dining area was not crowded and the decor was unexceptional. They looked like they were closing soon with the people vacuuming and cleaning the tables around us. The waitress came by right away to take our order. I ordered a beer. They didn't have a large drink menu. The waitress asked for my ID and as I was going into my purse to give it to her she said "you look over 21 but I have to ask". It was more her tone of voice than her wording that offended me. I was giving her my ID with no trouble so there was no need for her to say that. Now it was time to order our food. I was still grossed out by the smell at the entrance so I didn't want to order a huge meal. I decided to get the five side items. They had about 15 side items to choose from. I ordered the mashes potatoes, macaroni, green beans, carrots and baked apples. When my food arrived I received everything but the baked apples. The waitress brought me a plate of French fries instead and said "we are out of the baked apples so here's some fries". I don't understand why she didn't tell me they were out of the item and ask me what else I wanted. I already ordered mashed potatoes so why would I want fries? I could have asked for something else but at this point I just wanted this meal to be over with. The food was bland and lukewarm. I ate a few bites. My husband and our friend said their food was ok but nothing great. The waitress did come by and checked on us once and then we didn't see her for a while. I was trying to flag her down for another beer. All of us at the table had a lively debate on what to tip the waitress. I wanted to leave $5 but my husband and friend didn't want to look like cheapskates so we tipped her $11 which was a little under 20%. That is my Black Eyed Peas experience. Needless to say I will never go back to that restaurant or any of their other locations.

Ehh... When I first moved to Colorado, I thought of BeP as comfort food central. Nowadays, I suppose my tastes have... matured? I thought of it as good, stick to the ribs fare, and you even get some nice veggies too. Had a quick lunch meeting here today. Now, I knew I would be late, and called my colleague ahead to get my order in the queue. Yeah, worst thing I could have... Chicken-fried steak with green beans. Everything was just, well... ehh. Maybe I'm just a snob.

The food was much improved from our last visit, 3 years ago. The service was lacking. At 5:15 pm, one would think they would be staffed up for the "supper" rush. We waited 5 minutes to be greeted by the hostess - nobody else waiting in line. After being seated, it was a 10 min wait for a waiter & then he took the order of two other parties who came in After us. Another 10 minutes before coffee & bread showed up. Then only about 15 minutes before the food arrived. We'll check it out again in another 3 years.

This restaurant is awful! It started with the usual bad service. They have runners so the waitress/ waiter always fails to check back. So if there is a problem it can't be corrected. Simple problem right? A call to the manger should fix things! Not at Black Eyed Pea! I called to let the manager know. He yelled and screamed at me and called me a liar (I later found out tthat manager Lee has a habit of doing this so he got fired) Some lady named Andy in the district office claimed to send me an apology letter (and coupons to come back which I never asked for) big suprise no letter or coupons! I called back to give them a chance to redeem themseleves they promised to re-send these items.....Nothing! The manage assured me he was sorry and embarrased and the owner and some other guy named Alex would want to hear about this castrophe. He gave me their personal cell #'s........a week later big fat suprise no call! Black eyed pea does not care about customers. Do not eat here! They need to be gone! Too bad I have to give one star! :(

Definitely different than the normal restaurants I frequent. They offered a great salad with friendly prompt service. I'll definitely go back next time I'm in Colorado, it was a good value for a $10.00 salad given the quality of the ingredients and free corn bread.

Very poor service. We were a party of four who went to the Black Eyed Pea on a Friday evening about 6 pm. We were seated immediately, and the server came to the table withinfive minutes to get a drink order. We placed our beverage order and they were delivered quickly within five minutes. We placed our food order at 6:20, and had finished our beverages and bread by then. The server rushed through the order and we had to ask for refills for the beverages, and the refills were brought eight minutes later. We were not offered more bread. At 6:43 our food was served, and one party was served the wrong order. We told the server it was wrong and he argued that the party had pointed to the incorrect item on the menu. We did not remember pointing to anything and he took the entree back, returning in six minutes to tell us that it could be fixed, but it would take an extra ten minutes. Since the other three parties were eating, we requested to bring back the incorrect item, and it was returned, although it was then cold. The server said he could see what he could do, and returned in six minutes to tell us that it would "be taken care of". We requested water for two of our party, and he said he would bring it. Nine minutes later, another server walked by and we asked her if we could get water. She was kind enough to bring it four minutes later. The entire time, no table check was done to ensure our satisfaction on the meal. We finished our meal, and waited over 14 minutes to see the server, finally we called him over, and requested a to go box, which took an additional six minutes to bring. We asked for the check, and he said that it was being worked on by the manager. We again waited over 10 minutes, and finally the server brought the check. All in all, the service was not good and I would not recommend this for a dinner.

I went to this restaurant with my husband and stepson. We had eaten at the other location in Westminster before and had always enjoyed the food. it this location in Northglenn is no comparison. As one other review stated, the bar and restrooms smell like sewage but that is just the beginning. We were seated in the back right by the kitchen door even though the place was almost empty. The service was slow, the server never checked back to ask us if everything was ok. The worst part was we all noticed the stainless steel kitchen door which looked like it had not been cleaned in years. It had greasy fingerprints and food all over it. My husband made a plausible statement by saying it looked like they cleaned it with a pork chop. Then every time the kitchen door swung open we could see into the kitchen which was just as filthy. There were rolls , mustard bottles , silverware, you name it, it was on the kitchen floor. I have worked in hospitality business for almost 30years. If I drop something on the floor I pick it up. It's quite simple. We also never saw a manager. I good manager that is doing his job will check on his customers. I don't even remember what I ordered but it was nothing special. Won't go back to this location. I PLAN ON REPORTING THEM TO THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT!

. To start, the hostess was rude and continued to try to seat me at a table after I told her I wanted a booth, she said there was none clean, however I could see several empty booths.(They were not busy at all) So after taking 15 minutes to clean me a table, they sat us at a table with dirty seats. We didn't have to wait long for our server Robin to show up. She took our drink order, (2 Dp's and a coke with a water) She came back with 1 coke, 1 dp, an Arnold Palmer and no water. She then fixed it and took our order. She was very unfamiliar with the menu, didn't know what 2 of our choices were, and told me they didn't have the appetizer I was asking for, I made her get a menu and showed her that she was wrong. Both burgers that came were wrong, then under cooked once they were "right". Chicken fried stake was dry... Not a good experience at all.

Love the chicken fried steak with gravy. Especially the option of choosing green chilies in the gravy. It's always spot on.

My wife enjoyed her turkey burger & salad. My mushroom swiss burger (medium) was dry & bland & definitely not enough cheese. The dinner rolls & corn muffins were excellent. Butter was whipped & plentiful. The service was friendly & efficient. The booth was a little tight at first because the menus were so large. I will try this place again but I'll pass on the burger. Smashburger does a much better job. I 'll go for meatloaf or pot roast next time. Today I'll give it a "meh plus." Not a bad experience but for $40 (with tip) it could have been better.

I ended up being sick 4 days. And when I called the restaurant. I spoke to management to let her know of food poisoning. She said she would leave a message for the next msnager on shift. She wasn't concerned or cared. Nice management at black eyed. Not!

This was my first time at a Black Eyed Pea. We went for Grandpa's birthday. We had a very nice waitress. We were there for lunch and we got a few different things. I feel like we waited a long time to get our food. The place wasn't that busy considering it was a Sunday. So we were there waiting for our food and she finally brought out a mix of rolls and cornbread. The cornbread was cold and kind of yucky with the real bits of corn in them. The rolls were really good though and so we asked for more of them but they didn't come until after our food had came. I got the Shepard's pie which was pretty good other then the fact that they had gotten red marinara type sauce all over one side of it. I assume that's because grandpa had meatloaf a red sauce on it. I ate around it. The waitress brought grandpa a scoop of ice cream and it was pretty plain and we had to wait a little bit for it considering when we told her. I would go back if someone went there but it wouldn't be my first choice.

I have only been here once but the food was really not good. I had meatloaf with salad and stuffing. All about the level of a cheap cafeteria. Nice staff and decent seating gets them one star but food that bad is hard to forgive.

There were four of us and everyone has a great dinner. The fried catfish was perfectly crispy, the chicken fried steak was freshly made. I asked for my liver to not be over done as they tend to do with liver and it came out perfectly cooked. The buns were warm and freshly baked as was the cornbread and our server was pleasant. My spinach was bland but the carrots looked great and mu friend loved the squash. First time at this chain and I would eat there again.

I checked out this Black-Eyed Pea location for the first time today. Apparently it's another franchise I hadn't heard of or seen until I moved to Colorado. Gotta admit that I was expecting a bit of a more traditional soul food experience than it provided, but it was great nonetheless. They did have black eyed peas as a side dish, which were really good. I went with the beef brisket dinner, which came with two sides and unlimited cornbread. I could tell straight away that the brisket was real vs. being some other type of meat slathered in bbq sauce and liquid smoke. They were having a bar special of free double shots, which was a really nice bonus. There appeared to be a wide variety of items on the menu. Although I couldn't call it true soul food (I guess I'll have to find a hole in the wall place for that around these parts), still recommended.

Very interesting sitting close enough to the hostess stand. The hostess make fun of the customers she is sitting each time she returns. HEY MANAGER... I am not straining to hear her either. She's louder than my waiter.

When my Aunt & Uncle suggested Black Eyed Peas I was really sad. I mean we are in Denver, there are so many fabulous place to dine and especially independently owned places. We went anyways since we don't get to see them very often. To our surprise it was pretty darn good. We got there around 5:45pm and our serve let us know that if we hurried she would let's us order off the happy hour menu so we could get those deals. We were very impressed with her. I ordered the Baked potato and salad and it was all very good. My Aunt had white fish (pretty sure it was Cod), and potatoes, she enjoyed her meal. We barely had to wait for our table on a Friday night. Service was great and food was pretty good. Nothing fancy or exciting but much better than I had originally expected.
