Oh yes! This is some good Indian food. I feel bad for my wife, every time I return through Montrose I'm going to come back smelling like garlic naan and curry. :-) the Masala is soooo good. Too good, I ate too much. Calm music and decor. The serving lady handled 5 tables just fine and was fast. The food took about 30 min but was with the wait.

Vishnu, the friendly owner, talked to us at some length about his food. Luncheon buffet was very good. A few negatives: papadums stale, mint and tamarind chutneys not as concentrated with flavor as others we have had. But we were warmly welcomed, greatly enjoyed the expansive buffet, and would definitely return. A great find and filling a niche in Montrose.

I can't speak to the decor inside as we just ordered take away, but the food and wrapping was well done. Everything was individually packaged and then wrapped in plastic wrap so that if the container broke, nothing would spill in the bag (love this...take away food is so annoying when they don't wrap it correctly). We are vegetarians; had the abu gobi, vegetable pakada, Chada misawa?, garlic naan and rice. All were delicious and we would definitely come again if we end up in the area. Recommended!

Really excellent. Can not believe I've not been here sooner. I make chai from scratch so can be fussy but their chai was excellent too. Everything was so uniquely flavorful. A treat.

Delicious! I had the saag paneer and some naan, eating in the restaurant. Fast, friendly service and the interior is quaint. Food was yummy!

We always stop here for the buffet when we're driving anywhere near town. It's $10 per person and is a great value. I do wish they had a bit more of a dessert selection, but other than that it's great.

I've only gotten takeout from Guru's so far, but everything has been EXCELLENT. Had the paneer makhani, veggie noodles and garlic naan... SO GOOD and huge portions! I'm excited to try their lunch buffet!

We showed up late evening and received a very warm welcome. I had the chicken Masala with an extra spicy kick that was out of this world. My daughter had Nepali Vegetarian soup that also was delicious. Bring your appetite- I highly recommend this spot!

The food here is always excellent. It's also such a calm environment, yet still kid friendly, which is tough to find. We've been here a number of times and plan to continue coming back!

Great friendly service, the owner is very gregarious, and some of the most flavorful food in town. Everything you expect from this type of place, nothing showy, just great food. Spicy is actually spicy. A real gem for the town of Montrose. You should definitely make this place at least a weekly destination in your dining rotation.

They have the very best tandoori chicken and garlic naan. The chicken curry is as nice as the owner and the staff is friendly :) Great place to enjoy a lovely meal

We love eating here. The ambiance needs work and the service is terribly slow, but the food is tasty. We would not hesitate to eat here again.

I had Indian for the 1st time here. My husband and Mother in Law loved it and were very excited at the menu. The interior is dumpy but the food was great. Hubby got a giant platter thing and we had a great time trying everything. PS the pistachio ice cream is to DIE for. seriously.

Love the food and service great stop for travelers and for a great meal!! We had the buffet and loved the veggie samosas with a spicy raspberry dipping sauce! Yum

Lunch buffet was average in quality and flavor. It was limited in selection: saag paneer, fresh green beans, zucchini, chicken korma, tandoori chicken legs, and a few other items. No curry at all. Dal lacked flavor too. Good for Montrose, but not compared to big city.

We stumbled upon this after a day of walking around the Black Canyon of the Gunnison Park. Great day and a great place for Indian food! I talked with the owner a bit about the Nepalese food. I've had lots of Indian food, but never Nepalese. LOVE, LOVE, LOVED it! Even at the end of the day the food was fresh, hot and oh, so tasty! I ordered the nepalese noodles with chicken, and I don't think I've ever tasted a more flavorful dish. I'll certainly try to come here again. My friend wants to retire here so he can drink their Mango lassies for the rest of his life!!!

I have eaten dinner here several times. Each time the staff is cordial, quiet, and friendly. There are a variety of Nepalese dishes on the menu, which cuisine includes flatbreads similar to tandoori bread, various stews, rice and meat dishes, and some other things like curries and vegetable dishes. Some are simlar to Indian dishes and some are quite different. It's an easy place to have a vegetarian meal but it offers many specialties that are worth trying if you have a group or for return visits. They have a full bar but the food goes best with one of the imported or other beers they have. It's the only place I have eaten Nepalese food so I can't really evaluate it from a culinary perspective, except to say that the owner is from Nepal. The restaurant is in a storefront along main street, but there is plenty of free on the street parking as it's on a corner.

The service here was great. The atmosphere is kind of dingy, but I don't really mind that. I like how they gave us poppadoms when we sat down as the Nepalese joint in GJ doesn't. We ordered the Paneer Makhani to split. This is probably my favorite Indian dish next to Saag Paneer and chicken Korma. The Makhani was OK, but it was lacking in some flavor. The garlic naan, however, was amazing. I hope to try this place again someday for the wonderful lunch buffet!

One should not read the cover of Guru's as any indicator of what lies inside. The immediate impression you might get, as you walk through the doors, is 'dingy', but before you trust your instincts, please, go to the buffet line, portion for your self a serving of basmati rice, chicken makkani, saag, curried lamb, and daal soup...oh, and don't forget the naan. Take a seat at the cracking, red vinyl booths, and order a chai tea. The first bite will let you know you are not in a dive or an Americanized Indian restaurant, rather you will find yourself in a truly authentic Nepali kitchen. In fact, the aged, minimally maintained, and humble environment is rather similar to nicer places in Nepal, which you are likely to see while visiting. Be assured, the service is very friendly. I mean that literally. By the time you leave, you will have made a new friend of the owner, and you will, quite possibly, have learned something about Nepal. The proprietor was born and raised in the poverty-stricken country, where his wife and children have spent nearly two years waiting to receive their visas before they are reunited here in America. Note to Montrose: Don't take Guru's for granted; it is a rare gem of which you are not deserving. Show your gratitude by paying it a visit, maybe even make it a regular destination.

Run-down interior, but ignore it and try the food! Great buffet at a reasonable price, very friendly staff, and a rare find for a small white bread town. I've been going about twice a month for several months. During the summer, ask for iced chai -- yum! Waitress Beth is a lot of fun: she tries to remember the names of the regulars (and does quite a good job, considering how many there must be).

This place has such great food. It's such a shame that it doesn't get more business. If you're looking for really spicy food, you won't find it here, but the flavors are good. Don't do the buffet, as you won't get the best dishes. Also don't waste time with the sampler. But if you're looking for a tasty, satisfying dinner, this is the place to go.

Stopped by on the way through town & wow what a find! The buffet was fantastic & extremely reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

Good but not great. I was not asked if I how I wanted my tikka masala cooked which probably was why it was a bit bland. Definitely have had better garlic nan. Have not had the buffet. Definitely a good choice if you are in Montrose.

We were looking for an Indian restaurant on 25th Dec evening , when "Around Me" suggested this place . We were like an hour's drive away and called them up cause it was already 8pm. We reached the place 10 minutes before it would close down. The staff were very friendly, cordial and attentive. They understood that we were hungry and brought us some snalcks by th etime dinner was cooked. The Tibetan Noodle soup was great. The Vindaloo curry was indeed spicy. The chicken biryani was great. We were very hungry and this place delighted us.

Ok, so you wouldn't think it to when you walk in, but this place is phenomenal. I actually read all the positive reviews here on Yelp, told my freinds about it and we went to give it a try. It was a first for several of us eating Indian or Nepalese cusine, so we went for the lunch buffet, that way we could sample different dishes. Very Friendly staff took time to get to know us, the manger/owner came out to talk with us each time, on another occasion even teaching us how to use the prayer/mediataion bowls, it was very pleasant experience all around. Chai Tea never had it before, now I'm hooked. The dishes were great, the flavors exceeded my expectations, and we made it a weekly event to go there together for lunch. Now yes I had nothing to compare it to then, but since then I have had Indian cusine in many states and cities, so I can definetly say it was some of the best I've ever had. Next time I'm in the Montrose/Telluride area I will be stopping in again.

Surprised me! I never thought Montrose, CO would have such tasty food. Did the Kathmandu Sampler of Nepalese food to share with hubby and sister-in-law. They both loved the explosion of flavor. Sis-in-law ordered a chicken dish that she absolutely loved, but I can't remember the name. Would come here again if ever n Montrose, CO.

We got here just as they were closing down their Lunch buffet but they were extreamely nice and let us eat anyway(they didn' t even bring up the fact that the buffet time was over) they even cooked us up some piping hot curry chicken to add to the mostly cold dishes that were left.
