We are wrapping up our time here in Montrose and decided to give Amelias a try. This little jewel had been recommended to us by a waitress at a local chain restaurant that we visited when we first arrived two weeks ago. I love tex/mex but often it is just awful. Not here. This food was well crafted and the waiter, JR, was attentive without being intrusive. Hubby had the seafood enchilada and he couldn't stop talking about how perfectly the seafood (including the scallops) was cooked. I ordered "a la carte" the taco, tamale, and a corn pudding called "corn chimayo". Taco was ok, tamale was great, but the corn chimayo was outstanding!! They also have a wide variety of beer on tap including Dos XX Amber and an oatmeal stout microbrew from Breckinridge that was quite a treat.

By far the best Mexican food in the area. Is family owned and they do a great job. They are very friendly and make the best chili rellenos around. Patio is great in summer time just good people

What an enjoyable afternoon on the patio at this delightful cantina. Began with tequila drinks and chorizo fundito. Entrees were delicious and generously proportioned. This place shouldn't be missed. It will be fun.

Ummm...the salsa is great. That's the best part of this place. The fare is typical Mexican. No surprises here. Shrimp fajitas and pork green chili burrito were good, but not great. Average is the word here. I was dismayed to see that there were only 7 shrimp included with my fajitas, not even enough to fill out the 3 tortillas they included with my meal. Big time bummer. Here is the problem: this place has a cost problem. As in, it's just too expensive relative to the quality and quantity of food you receive. Perfect example: the House margarita, on "special", is 10 bucks. And it's average in size, and less then average in taste. Premium margs are $15 or more. Really?? When I start to think that I may as well just go home and make my own, that's an issue. Another example: the queso dip (appetizer) is also almost 10 bucks! C'mon. Its about half that price at another place in town. Overall, you will find identical food (and better drinks) at almost any other Mexican place, for less cash. I would skip this place.

Poor service, I was sat and then ignored, the made or then ignored, then waited an inordinate amount for the food, watched the staff fight with a customer and then got ignored when I was done eating. Had to walk and find someone to take my money. Bad experience.

I have really high standards for Mexican food (being from So. CA has spoiled most attempts for me). This place has a great friendly staff that treated out large party very well. The food was good as were the drinks. If you happen to be in this part of CO you should check it out.

Terrible service hands down! The owners family runs the place and they act like your bothering them when you ask for anything. Ive traveled many states and this is the only restaurant that will shut the doors in your face at 8 pm as your walking in the door. This us the second time this was done to me and my friend and another couple as we walked in.I will never eat there nor recommend to anyone I know period....

Great homemade dishes .. fish tacos are amazing. Nice patio and bar. Margaritas are best in town .. beer on tap is ice cold. Very cool stone/brick interior in historic old building. Love it!

Coming from a vegetarian, the food was delicious and the menu was a great size. I sat under the naturally shaded area on the patio and it was just a great experience overall. The servers were super nice and attentive throughout the meal. Let me just say that while eating the food I couldn't wait to share my great experience! Enchilada-mazing!!

Excellent food, service and atmosphere! We look forward to coming back! We enjoyed sitting on the outside patio and the margaritas were outstanding! The servings were large and we has to take home leftovers! We have lunch for tomorrow!

I can only give this one a 3 star, the service was ok but not friendly , we felt like we were bothering them even with closing time over an hour away. The food was average but for a person from Santa Fe it was marginal at best. 3 stars is the right rating for this place everything was OK but just OK .

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
