I really like Janie's. It's the obligatory greasy-spoon mid-west type restaurant with what I'd consider "trucker" type of food. That said, their prices are still in that "normal" restaurant range (roughly $7-$8) which I find a little disappointing, as there are a few places like this back in Michigan that are closer to $4-$6 per entree. They have all of the typical dive faire, and they can get people in and out pretty quickly. I can't speak for much of the food since they have a huge menu and I've only been in a couple of times, but everything I've eaten there has been good. They are strictly a breakfast/lunch restaurant though. Recommended on the Menu: Biscuits and Gravy, Grilled Ham and Cheese

We just returned from our first visit to Janie's Cafe, and let me tell you, we've found our new Saturday morning spot! As a previous reviewer mentioned, total mom & pop spot, and mom (Janie) greeted us at the door. Everyone was SO friendly and nice, and the food was great! I don't know about some of the reviews on here that say the food is just average, or not so great. I had the breakfast burrito and it was huge. What made it though was the green chili - AWESOME! Maybe it depends on what you order, my husband had the chicken fried steak and eggs and he loved it as well - said the gravy was amazing. Total local hangout, classic cars parked out front, everyone knows everyone and most of the people who work there have been there for over 10 years. Just a great weekend breakfast spot!

Janie's is all about serving the customer - tasty grub and efficient, smiling service. Everybody in our breakfast group enjoyed their meal, ranging from green chili to pancakes. Our coffee cups were always filled before being half empty, and they have a fine assortment of little jams and jellies to spread on the sourdough toast. Not great, but reliably good!

I have now been to Janie's close to a dozen times. This place has not disappointed yet. The service is extremely friendly. Every time I have been in this place it is very busy, and the staff handles the busy atmosphere like professionals. The breakfast food is the best i have experienced in Colorado. They serve a classic "souther style" breakfast and everything I have eaten has been incredibly well done and fairly portioned. I highly recommend you get some breakfast at Janie's. Hopefully you'll get to meet Janie, and see why her restaurant is as good as it is.

Cool small town diner. Not the best corned beef hash but if your looking for cheap old school favorites this is a good stop.

If you're looking for a great greasy diner breakfast in Longmont, then Janie's is the place. It's yummy comfort food. The staff is friendly, very attentive, and they never let your coffee cup go empty. Everything is tasty - pancakes, french toast, breakfast burritos, huevos rancheros, and traditional breakfasts with eggs, potatoes, choice of meat and toast. The wait staff is great with kids - always topping their hot chocolate with marshmallows AND whipped cream.

I wasn't too impressed with my biscuits and gravy. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing but I thought there wasn't much taste to what I ordered. The food however is inexpensive and regardless it sticks to your ribs for a little while. The service was prompt and friendly.

What a really great place. What I liked was the service. Our coffee and water was refilled constantly. Never got below half a cup. People were super friendly. I had bacon, eggs, home fries and toast. Bacon was thick, flat and super crispy. Very clean. Busy, but not uncomfortable at all. Pleasant atmosphere.

I went here for breakfast (instead of Lucile's) to try something different and cheaper. While the staff was friendly, the atmosphere and food leave a lot to be desired. Everything felt a little sticky, and they would do well to remove the carpet and brighten the place up a bit. The coffee flowed freely, as expected in a diner, but it was watery and flavorless, and the food we had (french toast, pancakes, eggs, bacon) was very mediocre. The french toast was on the thin side and the eggs were dry. I suppose this is an okay place for standard breakfast fare, and you get what you pay for, but there are far better options out there. I rarely go out to breakfast so I would prefer to pay a bit more for high quality food and a nicer atmosphere. I'll be heading back to Lucile's next time!

This place is def a throwback! Look like they haven't changed anything in 30+ years. And that's a good thing This was my second time to visit and it was exactly like the first- only better! When I had first moved to the area I was encouraged- no, very encouraged to visit this little cafe on Main st in Longmont. If you want to see what the locals eat and where they socialize in the AM you HAVE TO check Janie's out. Unfortunately I didn't want try anything else that was on the menu. And belief is seeing what is on the menu they really have something for anybody. I remembered that I had the breakfast burrito about 6 months before. I was hungry then and I was ravenous now. And I thought that would do the trick. We ordered it and THEN it came around midway through my first cup of coffee. Then i knew it was on. Like Man-vs-Food on! The burrito was bigger than my arm. I got it with sausage and the smothered goodness aroma wafted in front of me as I said to myself - no sh*t!! The green chili was a nice mix of tomato and chili with generous chunks of pork. Meanwhile inside there was chunks of potato, cheese, scrambled eggs, and sausage cooked perfectly. I wouldn't have changed a thing. 'Cept I added Cholula. But there was one slight problem: I knew I would run out of the chili. But that's not their fault though. There was bearly enough room on the plate. I ordered a chili side and she brought it out immediately. Dang- I didn't miss a beat and completely finished it! Totally breakfast burrito yumminess. If you haven't tried- share it with a friend you won't walk away unsatisfied. And if you're feeling adventurous eat the whole thing! Or try something else on the menu, I've hear it's all good! Why not 5 stars? Gives me a reason to back and try something else and update my review!

Janie's is a throw back to yesteryear. Food that is edible and service that no longer exists. Great place to go for breakfast and lunch.

I am working in the local area for a while, so I thought I would try some of the local joints, to try the local food and see how it stacks up! Well, I must say that Janie's is a great place to have breakfast in Longmont. It is a family type environment with several generations of families eating here for breakfast. Everyone seems to know the name of the waitresses and the service was prompt and the food was very good. I got the corned beef hash with eggs. Very good and this is the first place I have ever been to that has apple butter in their jelly basket. I liked that a lot!!

I've mostly been at Janie's first thing in the morning as the place just starts going. Janie is there. The place fills up fast. She's got a great personality, and stays on top of her operation, making sure everyone is well served and has enough coffee going. Janie always seems to have time to recognize me and have a brief chat. I suspect she has an encyclopedic knowledge of her customers. The food is great and will fill you up. I went midday once, and Janie had left. Everything was just as good, but I felt Janie's personal touch missing. Try to have early breakfast sometime, but note it's closed Sundays. Park in the rear off Coffman St. There's outdoor seating in the back, under a canopy that wards off rain, but you'll be missing out on Janie's ambience.

You Betchya! Opens up at 5am... I think. I was feeling rather hungry the morning I came in. It was late on a Saturday and we were back from a short hike on Rabbitt Mtn. Hungry? Definitely. I had promised I would make my world famous blueberry pancakes, but, I chickened out and begged for a quick trip to Janie's Cafe. Have I been there before? Nope. I just wasn't palling around with the local Longmont crowd I s'pose. We were seated by a woman named Janie... coincidence? I don't know. But, Janie was quick on her feet, fast with her rapier wit, pleasantly eloquent and I really wanted to see if she'd be my grandma since I no longer have a living grandparent. I wanted to act like a regular since it appeared that I was surrounded by a regular. So, after a minute of small talk, we had a cup of joe and a menu. So, hungry as I am, and wanting pancakes, I noted the stack of pancakes that come with two eggs and sausage links. However, I haven't had corned beef for breakfast in an age and a half... when Janie was back for our order, I had to think fast so I ordered TWO breakfasts. I had the two pancakes, with strawberries, two sausage links, two eggs over hard w/ wheat toast AND I order two eggs over hard with corned beef w/ hash browns. I also had my joe and a glass of orange juice. I left a happy camper. Going back soon, maybe next Saturday.

This is a cute little ma and pa restaurant, with the emphasis on the "ma". Janie's always there with a smile and a quick wit (she's got a sarcastic streak that is way fun to play with--and she's always game for some teasing). She really "makes the place" if you know what I mean. Her husband of 40-or-so years is around also, and is quiet, but kind and helpful. The food is fairly typical for your ma and pa breakfast and lunch place, but there are a few that really shine: The breakfast burrito (or "Fast burrito according to Janie") is great. I'm not a fan of chorizo...but everyone I know that likes that stuff says it's fantastic in the burrito. They also make it "without" which is the way I love it. They also do a great "corned beef hash" dish, which...Janie calls "puppy chow"--and I can totally see the resemblance. Again, though, rest assured...it's fantastic. All in all? A WONDERFUL place to go... where if they don't know it already, they'll learn your name...or at least what your "usual" is...

If you like diners then you will like janices. The food is okay, its got the same diner coffee and not fresh squeezed oj but the food isnt bad its just that you will never see it on Diner, Drive-ins & Dives unless they get a "real deal" cook. The food selection is exactly what you would expect from any US diner with the same low prices to match. The staff are friendly and stop by and check on you regularly to make sure your happy as well as refill drinks. It u like diners come check it out because you will like this one too.

The food was ok- exactly what you expect from a diner like this. After reading the reviews I was hoping to be wowed, but that didn't happen. The service was very good and the staff was very friendly. Overall, the food was pretty much like I've had a Denny's or Village Inn. I would hope this place would do something different to set them apart.

Found this here on Yelp. Visited twice, and was very pleased both times. You are immediately greeted just inside the door by an old timer who has been there 23 years. You are directed to one of the booths (it's all booths) to sit down. A very active staff who have obviously been there a long time waits on you hand and foot. Your coffee and water are refilled about every 4 minutes by a roving lady with two pots in her hand. The food was excellent. Chipped beef on toast $4.75, and a great ham steak with two and toast very inexpensive. This is a locals place, and everybody who's anybody eats here. Good down home cooking, and free WiFi even. Nice touch. Easy parking on Main St in front, no parking meters. No handicap access.

Mom and pops greasy spoon. Go there for breakfast and get the huevos with hash browns. Not open on Sunday. I'm a regular and the wait staff remembers me and my family and are very personable.

Based on other Yelper's reviews, I made a point to try Janie's for lunch today, and I was not disappointed. I got there at 11:30am and the place was full and I got one of the last available tables, by 12 noon there was a short wait. When you walk in there is a rail-thin man at the register to greet and seat you, wearing slacks, button-up shirt and tie. I ordered the corned beef hash with home fries, and it was hearty and delicious. Decor? think: wood carved art on the walls for sale. Dress code for men? None, but if there was, it would be either a ballcap advertising a car company or farm machinery, or else a cowboy shirt buttoned all the way to the top. Did I feel out of place with my MacBook Pro open on the table in front of me? Slightly. Did they put me at ease and make me feel like a regular customer? They sure did. And how often do you get to say that about a restaurant?

Janie's is an old school breakfast and lunch diner. They serve good portions of traditional breakfast food at inexpensive prices. Like several other reviews noted, service is above average here. I've been in several times, some when they were quite busy, yet always received friendly and unrushed service. Well done!

Decent old school place. The breakfast options are all the basics of a mom and pop dinner. The service is very attentive and quick. Reasonably priced and our order was served within 10 mins. The food was decent, homestyle cooking. The milk was ice cold and the coffee hot. The grandma was cute with her candy cane glasses and Xmas sweater. So perfect for Main street in Longmont.

Stopped in here for lunch on Saturday. It was very busy but service was fast and friendly. This is your standard all american diner fare, so for diner food, it met my expectations!

  • Theresa F.

Old school dinner feel where the waitresses know most of the patrons by name. Stopped in because I had a Groupon and was surprised by the prices. A lot of food for a really great price. Nothing fancy, but your typical breakfast fare with quick service. Will definitely be back again for breakfast.

  • Andrew S.

The good: service fast and friendly. Prices ok The bad: food mediocre, ate half of my omelette and didn't want to finish the rest. Decor definitely needs an update. Booths had holes and rips in a number of places. Wood paneling on the wall damaged and unappealing. Random items in window strange, didn't know this was a restaurant at first. Service station with microwave and random items not visibly appealing, but open and prominent for all to look at while eating. Dirty dishes stored in bin that you see right when you walk in. No idea why anyone would put dirty dish tray right in front of the main door. The ugly: very dirty! Carpet covered in stuff. Ceiling tiles had visible stains and water damage. A/c vents had tons of caked on dirt streaming down right above us. Didn't notice till we had sat down and ordered, otherwise would have left sooner This restaurant needs some love and carr

I freaking love these types of places!!! I got the biscuits and gravy and they were scrumptious. Great service and I want to visit again. Lots of options for breakfast and lunch, our friend got a huge cinnamon roll and it looked amazing. Good ol' greasy cooking, just the way I like it :) And yes, the decor was a bit outdated, but it wouldn't be the same if it were different. It didn't have an effect on my inhalation of food.

Was in Co over the weekend for a wedding, and met the folks for breakfast at this little joint. For a typical mom & pop breakfast diner, they did a really good job. GREAT customer service and the breakfast burrito special with the "just right spicy sauce" was actually the best breakfast burrito I've ever tried! There is a reason why the line is way out the door for this place. When we were leaving the line was even longer and I was happy to see that the people waiting for a table outside were being coffee on this brisk morning. I'd go back in a heartbeat!

The food is always good but the place is dirty. The bathrooms are FILTHY. The floors are messy. I hope they clean it up to make it better.

Very pleased with Janie's Cafe! This was our first visit and we clearly ordered entirely too much food: breakfast burrito with sausage (Awesome!! Took half of it home because it's huge! The cheese and sauce were amazing); omelette with bacon and cheese (I've never had so much bacon in an omelette before!! So delish!); 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy (classic southern taste); short stack of pancakes w insanely huge blueberries! Our coffee cups were never empty and the staff was friendly and prompt. I will definitely recommend Janie's to local friends/family!! :)

Very much the downtown diner. We went for breakfast which had quite a few options. They even offered a vegetarian option for a smothered breakfast burrito although the chili was just not good. The food is a lot of ingredients with very little seasonings ( read: flavor). I can't help but feel they are catering to their normal clientele which was on the older side. The service was friendly & we never had to wait for coffee refills. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this place as something special but if you need to fill your belly and go somewhere local this should fit the bill.

I found this place on yelp being from Denver we weren't sure where to go for a good breakfasts. So I yelped breakfast and This place had good reviews so we went to try it out. Walking in the cafe was very homie feeling and the clientele seemed on the older side which I'm sure were regulars. The hostess/cashier lady told us to take a seat in the back where we found a nice comfy booth. She was not particularly welcoming but then came our waitress and she was very very kind. We ordered a couple breakfast burritos which were huge and delicious I had the chorizo at the suggestion of the waitress (great choice) . If I'm ever in this part of Colorado if definitely come back. Worth a try if your in the area!!

Exactly what you want in a classic diner. My family stopped in to Janie's because we noticed the place was the only one hopping at 10am on a Saturday in Longmont. Portions are very large for the price. Wait was about 5-10 minutes. I had a skillet--2 eggs, a ton of potatoes and diced ham, smothered in green chili and cheese/onions/peppers. Not a ton of heat, but solid flavors from the chili, and the meal served me well for two days in a row. My son had eggs & a gigantic kids pancake. He barely finished the eggs. My parents should have ordered one plate and split it because they barely scratched their plates. Everybody had drinks and we were out of there for $32. The staff was very attentive, keeping coffee warm, and checking in regularly. Not pretentious, tasty & low-cost entrees. If I find myself in need of a meal in Longmont again, I'll head to Janie's.

4.8 stars, rounded up! I've revitalized my dormant Yelp account to review Janie's. What a treat! Biscuits and gravy were some of the best I've had in recent memory at a diner place like this. My egg over medium was perfect - not at all rubbery, and the yolk was just right. The Belgian waffle was crisp and airy...melt-in-your-mouth goodness.

    (5)
  • Beau W.

First off, I like the interior. Homey. I had a classic breakfast with eggs, sausage, toast and biscuits and gravy. One thing that really erks me is simple fundamental mistakes. They made a huge one. While making the roux for the gravy they didn't cook it long enough. It had the raw flour taste still. Not cool. It ruined the meal for me. I might give this place another chance one day. I wasn't impressed though.

I posted a picture of my plate here. The food is really good. Unlike almost every where else in Longmont, the portions are big and the price is very reasonable. Other restaurants have downsized there portions and increased there price. Janie's has kept there big portions and Low price. The food has excellent flavor (especially the eggs Benedict) and is not bland unlike other restaurants in the area. The wait staff is friendly and very helpful. They do need a bigger location however as they pack out really quick. No surprise there as they are really good.

Wow. I REALLY don't get it. At 12:30 on a Friday, 95% of the patrons were over 80 and the food explains why. My "dinner salad" was a chilled glass plate piled with pale yellowish greenish brownish iceberg lettuce and three cherry tomatoes, one of which was also sporting a brown rotten spot. Pass. The "green chili" appeared to be roughly 75% cornstarch and water, 20% Campbell's tomato soup, and 5% canned green chilis. A little spicy, but otherwise totally flavorless and slimy. Inedible. Luckily, the grilled cheese was just like the lunchlady used to make at public school (greasy, smashed, and full of processed cheese), so we didn't totally starve. The waitress was a GEM, and didn't charge us for anything but the salad and sandwich, which was fine with me, because I just wanted to get the heck out as quickly as possible. Super awkward. Again, the star I'm giving is for the service, which was beyond reproach. We will never, ever, ever go back. I can imagine that the breakfast stuff is probably better, but the ingredients seem to be of poor quality. I have to believe there is a better diner in Longmont for this type of food.

I honestly have no idea why this place gets so many good ratings. The food was incredibly average, the atmosphere glum, and the wait staff average. There are so many better alternatives for breakfast, I can't imagine going here twice.

  • Dulcie F.

The food here is not good (sorry), but it is cheap and if you want some pancakes and eggs for under 5 bucks, this is your place. Definitely a greasy spoon type place with funny small town atmosphere. Janie's is located in an old building on Main Street, and it has not been updated any time recently. I would probably give it 2 stars for the food, but it gets 4 stars for the fact that the people are just super nice. It is definitely a glimpse into the Longmont of yore. There is an eclectic crowd, but a lot of old timers. I'm assuming there are a LOT of regulars. We had to wait about 4 minutes this morning, and the man who sat us seemed beside himself that we had to wait even that long. Anyway, if you are looking for some cheap breakfast eats and are up for some non-kitschy nostalgia, this is your place.
