I had heard mixed reviews from the locals on this restaurant but decided to give it a try. Very disappointed, the food was bland and not cooked fully! The service was rude and poor! The food is not authentic mexican for most of it taste like it comes from a can. My chicken was not fully cooked so I left it on the plate because the owner really didnt care! Paid my check for 4, left and will eat elsewhere in Leadville!

I ordered the chili rellenos. It was bad enough that I left most of my plate (and got pizza down the street, which was excellent). The rellenos like cardboard and the red chili was bland as could be. Some of the other food my family ordered was more edible but it was all poor quality. Our guess of the big problem is they are buying most of their food frozen and just heating it up. I feel bad for those who don't get better Mexican food than this.

LOVE their food! My husband lived in Leadville most of his whole life, & will ALWAYS choose Casa Blanca over the Grill! or any other mexican food around. Its got great food, & good people!!! ALWAYS so nice!!! The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because they're not open all of the time, you never know if this is the open season or not. & their dining area is divy, they really need to upgrade on things! They also need to catch up with 2012's technology. The menu's need cleaning & their tickets & cash register are the way of the dodo bird. Besides that, I recommend them highly! REAL AUTHENTIC GREAT TASTING FOOD & GREAT STAFF!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know what they put on the food here, but I can't stop eating when I get here - seriously, it's like they sprinkled prozac on the burritos The Mexican cooking here is thoroughly authentic and the depth of taste is not blocked by excessive frying (as many ethnic restaurants practice), because the owners here believe deeply in their work of authenticity Take it from this Latino - this is some damn good Mexican food!

A wonderful old school Colorado/New Mexico style Mexican food. Cheap, hole in the wall and perfect after a long day. Both their red and green sauce are tasty. Their stuffed sopapilla is very good but I have enjoyed many of their dishes over the years and haven't had a bad thing yet.

Service wasn't fast the couple times I ate there, but it was acceptable. The food was very good, however, and it is definitely the best Mexican in Leadville.

Solid Mexican eats with excellent service. Could tell there were a lot of items on my plate that were made in house. Tostada topped with guac instead of meat?? Hello, yes! Not the best I've had but way better than expected for such a remote location.

My mother in-law suggested we go here because she grew up in Leadville and has many memories with the place. However, it's nothing special without those memories. The chips and salsa cost $2 per each if you want more than one order. The chips were, as someone else mentioned, like Tostitos. You don't get a refill on your drink unless you get coffee or iced tea. So yeah, I was kind of put off by the whole situation. The service was okay but the lady running the show seemed like someone who could turn sour on a dime. The food wasn't anything as good as authentic Mexican. It was bland but edible. It's nothing special. I feel like you'd do better at the Mexican restaurant that says "burgers" on it's sign.

If you like authentic New Mexico style red chili heat, this is your place!! Our waitress told us the cook travels to NM to get the right chili, so there ya have it. Service was prompt and friendly. Inside was humble but clean. No complaints on anything, really. Worth a stop - glad we didn't let the few negative reviews persuade us otherwise.

Food hit the spot, staff is super friendly, quick, efficient, but still took time to answer our (tourist-y) questions. We had the beef sopapillas and enchiladas tijuanas and they were yummy, and hit the spot .... I actually couldn't finish my tijuanas. I did wish for a bit more sauce on them, but def. a good stop for us.

We had burritos. Mine was not horrible, but it was ground beef and open at both ends. This is not a burrito. My friend's was inedible. He took two bites and left it. We ask for more chips and salsa so we'd have something to eat. The waitress tosses the new chip basket on top of the old basket (still had chips in it). We got our bill...she charged us 4 dollars extra for the chips and salsa. Horrible service and crappy food.

I went after a hike up Mt. Elbert. I was starving and looking forward to a great meal. I should've been tipped off when the chips looked like Tostitos and salsa like Pace Picante. I ordered the chicken burrito. What a mistake! It was a flour tortilla with dry shredded chicken and some onions inside. Looked like it was thrown into the oven and some red sauce poured over. It was not tasty at all. My friend ordered ground beef tacos which he described as not as good as Taco Bell. It had an odd flavor like the beef was burned. To the restaurant's credit, the service was prompt and polite.

If you have EVER had authentic Mexican food, you should not walk through the door. I ordered three beef enchiladas with red sauce and found that the beef was actually ground beef that had no seasoning, sauce, or flavor mixed in. The red sauce poured over the top might as well have been water with red food dye and the chips and salsa was worrisome at best. My friend ordered chicken enchiladas and, again, the chicken was dry and unseasoned. VERY POOR FOOD. The service was decent.

The first time I ate there, I was APPALLED with how awful the service was. We never saw our waitress except to take our order and deliver our food. We were missing silverware, were never offered refills on our drinks, that kind of stuff. I vowed to never return, but friends encouraged me to go back, and I did when one buddy paid my way. ;) On the second visit, the service was average, but I concluded their food is pretty darn good. Their chili rellenos, tamales and salsa are excellent. Over time, I learned one way to get around the chance of having horrible service is to call in your order and pick it up! I did that a few times. :) Casa Blanca gets a three, "A-OK" but that's it. The inside of the restaurant is kind of dumpy; it's an old one-story house with the living room and center room cleared for tables. This certainly isn't a place to take someone on a romantic date. It's more like a "local dive" - a place you'd visit for lunch, where you don't care that much about the ambiance or service, and you just want a good Mexican meal. One oddity: They do not accept credit cards. You can only pay with cash or a local check.

Seriously? This place was awful. The beef tasted a few days past old and everything else seemed to come out of a plastic package. Pretty disgusting, won't be back.

Some of the best food in town - the stuffed sopapilla can't be beat. Family owned and operated, the food is homemade every day. Great green and red sauce, reasonably priced. Make sure you bring cash since I don't think they take cards.

Both take out and in house are good. Beer is served in clear boot-shaped glass. I can recommend both beef and bean burrito, smothered green, and tamales. Both lettuce and tomato in "deluxe" will leave you unimpressed.

I grew up eating the kind of Mexican food you (apparently) can only get in Colorado or New Mexico. Green Chile is what I think of when I think of Mexican food and Casa Blanca does a good job. There used to be a place in Leadville called Matilda's...it was just a converted living room in an old house with a few dinette sets here and there for seating. They had the best green chile cheese enchiladas in the US. They have closed after so many years and on a recent visit to Leadville I longed for something like that...we found it at Casa Blanca along with friendly, competent service. You can't beat the prices of Mexican food either. We ate lunch there 3 days in a row! One hint: Don't eat Mexican food the day before you climb the highest mountain in Colorado...just sayin'...!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
