This place is truly, truly bad. RUN -- don't walk -- away from this restaurant. PROS: Service was good. The hostess was very nice as was our waiter. CONS: Absolutely everything else, particularly the food. It was just terrible. I ordered the Wisconsin Scrambler with bacon and an English muffin. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito. His burrito came out extremely small for the $9+ price tag and was generally unimpressive. The potatoes inside were mushy and the eggs were ... weird. Slimy and oddly textured. Both of us had potatoes on the side that were clearly straight out of a bag and still cold inside. My Wisconsin Scrambler was even worse. The eggs weren't eggs at all, they were some egg-like concoction that was mealy, tasteless and porridge-like. Let's put it this way: their eggs are to real eggs what cheese whiz is to Wisconsin cheddar. I literally gagged. The bacon tasted of old grease and was clearly sitting around awhile. The muffin had synthetic margarine slathered over it and was also kind of cold. Amazingly bad. This restaurant clearly doesn't care about food quality. Obviously people patronize this establishment irrespective of the effort they put into their dishes, which is mind-blowing given how many good breakfast places there are nearby (Hits The Spot Diner, for example). Adding insult to injury, the prices are outrageous given the swill you actually get on your plate. I still can't believe how bad it was.

We've been here many times, and always enjoyed our breakfasts. Service is fast and friendly. There are reasonably healthy options on the menu, which is much appreciated. The place can get crowded on weekends, but the wait is not too bad. The Egg & I is our go-to choice for breakfast and it never disappoints.

I am picky with my breakfast food and COMPLETELY disagree with ALL the reviews. My aunt and cousins go here all the time and are very picky because of food allergies. The service is wonderful. Not sure what anyone is talking about it being dirty. I was a server for 4 years and I know what dirty is. Def wasn't this place. I got the eggs benedict and it was pretty good...of course I think mine is better b/c I like my hollandaise more tangy, but still, was pretty good. TRY THIS PLACE!!!!

How to describe the Egg & I? Well, I guess I'd have to tell you to imagine Perkins meets Le Peep....or something like that. Incredibly stereotypical chain restaurant atmosphere with little to no effort put into anything but the service. I mean service is a must, don't get me wrong, but diners need a bigger experience here, right? We need ambiance and happy vibes for all of our senses, not just with over-scripted customer service. The decor is "after thought chic" (essentially, there really isn't any) and the staff are *incredibly* friendly; even when it's obvious that they don't want to be there. It gave me the impression that Big Brother was watching them and that they had to put on a show or get reprogrammed in the basement or something. Kind of creepy, basically. Oh, and the music...has.got.to.go. For every effort that the overly friendly staff made, the loud and canned music scraped away. I ate here with a friend because we needed a place to have a meeting and another friend suggested we come here. This is the second time I've been let down by that particular friend's suggestion. No more, I tell ya!! The food was mediocre at best. I think I remember the eggs being overcooked, slightly cold and somewhat bouncy. I also remember that my friend across the table and I both found ourselves wondering what the cook had against sauce. ie: hollandaise and green chile. Both dishes were both sorely lacking in the sauciness. The coffee is bottomless and comes in many varieties, plus the decaf isn't bad. I must give them props for serving an okay brew. However, when you give two people each their own carafe of coffee and they each ask for milk, please don't act surprised when they ask for more than a 1/4 cup. There might be a sauce shortage, but I know that milk flows in abundance in Colorado. So, The Egg & I: what is my final verdict? Will I go again? If forced by family members with no epicurean imagination. Will I go willingly? Heck no. It's places like this that give chain restaurants a bad name.

Raspberry pancake was great! Good quick food. Not too busy on the weekends. Friendly service.

I'd visited the Egg & I in Fort Collins once, and it was always extremely busy. We only had the patience to eat there once, and I remembered it was good. So, when I realized there was one by my current place of residence, I was excited to try it out. We were sat quickly and our server was good, but the food was just meh. Nothing crazy amazing; there are definitely better non-chain breakfast joints in Denver.

After visiting my usual breakfast spot a few days in a row I decided to try another breakfast location around the Belmar area. I heard about the Egg & I opening up and had heard from a few people who had already visited that it wasn't bad. I arrived and found the restaurant to be nice and bright with an open feeling. They had tables and booths available and the booths were large which is great because I hate small booths. They also have a private eating area available for parties and such. The selection of food available is really good I settled on a pancake and side of bacon. The pancake was huge and the bacon was nice and crisp with good flavor. Being a breakfast and lunch spot they close up at 2pm which is very close to the hours my usual breakfast spot (le peep) keeps. I love breakfast all hours of the day so I don't really know why places only serve it in the mornings. The tables were clean and the workers seemed to enjoy working there. The location does have free Wi-Fi available which is great if you want to get some stuff done while you wait for your food to arrive. They are pretty quick so I don't know how much you would get done though. I only wish that Chili's would get on the free Wi-Fi wagon that location is like a dead spot for sprint and at&t (my HTC evo and iPad don't get service) at the Belmar Chili's location.

The food was cold. The bacon was microwaved, old, and rather tasteless. For this being a egg place they were not impressive, and being cold made them inedible. The French toast wasn't fresh. It was as if they served a dish someone else refused, especially considering it came super fast. Our waitress was good, unfortunately, the food was really bad.

I used to visit the Westminster Egg and I when I lived in that area. From what I remembered, it was pretty good. So I was happy to see there was one located close to my new residence. My boyfriend and I came here on a Sunday morning around 10:30am. As expected, it was pretty busy and there was a 15-20 minute wait. Not too bad. Even better is that we were probably sat in about 10 minutes. They do a good job of filtering people in and out (not in a pushy way, mind you). We were greeted by our waitress, who had almost crossed the line of being annoyingly cheery, but certainly better than the converse. Our order came out pretty quick. I got the Huevos, which was surprisingly light, but not spicy enough. The green chili, though not the most appetizing looking thing, was actually not too bad. One thing that put me off were the eggs. They were cooked well, but I think they use a lower quality oil to cook the eggs in because they had this funny after taste that I could not get past. My boyfriend ordered the breakfast burrito and seemed to be pretty happy with it as well, but agreed that the eggs had a bit of a funny taste. All in all, I would consider this place a good back up plan for a Sunday breakfast, but certainly not my first choice.

I am pretty picky when it comes to quality of food and I thought this place was great! My fiance and I tried it for the first time on a Sunday morning. The food and service was excellent. We loved the fact that they leave the coffee carafe on the table and that they offer you a to-go cup at the end. We will definitely be bringing guests from out of town here. Yum!

Service was very friendly but neither of our orders came out as we ordered. Also, most of the ingredients tasted like they came out of a can. Really pretty bad. I won't be back. Too many other places to try ;((

Always a clean breakfast joint. I love the healthy food options. Today I had the avocado toast with basted eggs and fresh herbs special. I was fresh , refreshing and spectacular. Only down side, was not enough. Had to order another pancake flapper breakfast. This was suppose to be an energy source before my bike ride.

Not so much. This place had cold English muffins, soggy potatoes and weird egg like stuff in their omelets. So disappointing. We were so excited to try this place too. Snooze is still at the top of the list for us! Has a solid 90s feel as well. Not gonna had back. Oh well, onward to the search for stellar breakfast in Belmar. Revision: Manager said it must have been an off day and gave us the meal for free.

I had a sandwich and a half of a Reuben. I wished I'd gotten a whole Reuben and a side salad, both were quite good but the Reuben left me wanting more just because it was so good. Service was a little amateurish, but not horrible.

I had just waited for an hour at the new IHOP by "The Egg and I" for food that never came. I went to "The Egg and I" and let them know I was a bit on edge! The staff was incredibly accommodating and the food was great! I highly recommend this restaurant to locals and visitors! Two thumbs up.

This place is great. This is the kids favorite place also. This time we tried the pecan coffee was really good, but I like the cinnamon is the best still. The waitress was really great and fast she brought us everything quickly and correctly. The food is always good and so many choices, I don't think there is one I have tried that I haven't liked so far. I recommend taking your children here, they will ask for it every time

This is a great place for a family breakfast. The wait during peak breakfast hours can be a bit of a wait. In my experience here at the longest we've ever had to wait is 40 minutes. That's Saturday morning at 1030am so it was to be expected. The service is hit or miss here and I've had both great servers and not so great so. I'm not sure but they may have a lot of turnover with their personnel. Nevertheless none of the servers one had have been terrible. If you're going to go on a busy day you can call ahead and get your name on the list also to help with that wait time.

  • Sadie B.

The service here is very slow.. It took a long time to even get a beverage. I ordered the Veggie Benedict with grits. The food had no flavor to it. I would only recommend coming here if you don't mind waiting, and plan on getting something like pancakes.. I will not be going back to that restaurant.

The food is great. The wait staff are great. The hostesses and managers today were extremely disappointing. Let me back up. We had family in town and needed a good breakfast restaurant. I had been to the restaurant a few times so I thought it fit the bill. We had party of six plus a baby so I called a few days prior to see if they take reservatios for large parties. I was told no reservations but if we called when we were on our way they'd get our table ready. I did just that and when we arrived let them know we were all there. The waiting area is very small and unconfortable. After 15 minutes we checked in with the hostess stand and were told they actually don't get a table ready but simply put our name down. There was no apology for the misunderstanding. The manager was standing there the whole time and never said a word and seemed to avoid any eye contact. After another 20 minutes a server came over and apologized profusely and said we'd have a table soon. The poor thing wasn't even our server but the only one who had any empathy for our wait. Once we finally were seated the service and food were great. Bottom line: it's a bad restaurant for dining with kids or more than four people. Hopefully they'll get a new manager who can run the room better on the weekends or at the very least have the moxy to make eye contact with unhappy guests.

I came here for an early breakfast, the service was great and the restaurant was nice and clean. Everything tasted fresh and great, and there were ample choices on the menu. I would return to at breakfast again if I were in the area. There was plenty of parking in the lot, and it wasn't overly busy at the time we showed up, soon after opening at 7AM.

Breakfast place for folks who like breakfast. Different kinds of coffee, eggs, psncakes, and specials. Staff are great. This is a place to enjoy your meal, not grab something and be out the door in 20 minutes. They can rush, but why??? Sit relax, enjoy your meal.

No regular hashbrowns? What? Not everyone wants onions and ranch flavoring. Not to mention they come with hardly any of the meals. And for the price, the food isn't all the great. I ordered raisin French toast and that was good but the scrambled eggs I got tasted like they poured them out of a carton. Didn't even taste like real eggs. Would disintegrate the minute they were in my mouth! Gross! And the sausage you can tell are frozen pattys they heat up. And for the price, it's absurd. Although the staff gets an A+! Super sweet!

Foor goodness' sake, go to French Press across the street (next to Dick's Sporting Goods). Same prices, a proper coffee bar, and real food made by humans.

This location is amazing! I love the call ahead wait list! Every server I have ever had knows what is going on, does their job well, and do it with a smile. They are great accommodating food allergies and special orders too. Can't wait to come back again.

This is my 3rd visit to this Egg & I and I'm pretty happy with the food & service. Although weekend mornings are a bit busy they still get the job done. I like the fact I get endless coffee @ the table and always get a Togo cup to take some with me to work!!

I'm not sure why this place has such low ratings, but my little group had a wonderful experience here. We came on Mother's Day and decided that the pretty long wait for a table was worth it, due to really REALLY wanting some brunch, and most of us having hangovers from the previous night's birthday celebration. Our waitress, Valerie, was amazing. She was so pleasant that even our tired, headachy selves were smiling every time she left the table. We kept asking for various things throughout the meal, and she was quick to bring them, always with a smile. The food was just great; all very well cooked and seasoned (we had various egg scrambles with tasty green chile, eggs benedict, breakfast hash, loaded ranch potatoes, and a reuben, collectively). With the place being as slammed as it was, and still being able to get quality food and service, I will definitely be going back.

I have to say when I first came to Denver my family and I wanted to find a great breakfast place and have to say the egg and I is the real deal. All around a fantastic place where they have meals for whatever your fancy is. I especially like that they bring you a carafe of coffee and the same for soda so you don't have to keep getting someone's attention. I have noticed that they ask you know if you want a to go coffee and soda at no extra cost what a nice treat. Service is always excellent and the food is amazing. If your looking for a great all around experience you need to come to the egg and I.

The quick and dirty: My breakfast burrito was $9 and tiny. The flavor, what little existed, was mediocre and I was still hungry when I had cleared the plate. The "ranch potatoes" that came with the burrito were awful: COLD, yet overcooked. I wonder how long they had been sitting before someone slopped them onto my plate. My wife got a "scrambler" and it was the pinnacle of the suckfest that was our breakfast at The Egg & I. It appeared to be some sort of warm congealed egg slime with cheese melted over it. She also had the same awful potatoes and even her bacon tasted like it had been used as a food prop in some sort of horror movie. The service was fine, if a bit loud and annoying, and at least the drinks were not revolting. As I was paying the bill, the cashier asked me how everything was and I replied with, "At least I don't think it will make me sick." She entirely missed my point and went to great lengths to explain how she ate there all the time and never had any health problems. So at least they have that going for them.

I give the Egg and I two stars - they don't rate well to other restaurants like Le Peeps or DJ's Berkley Café or Jelly's but they do try. The coffee is hot but not real flavorful - more of the common mainline in some of the chain restaurants like Village Inn. The menu is okay but not extensive. I had the veggie benedict for my morning meal and two things - the English muffin was not fresh and it was over toasted and the country potatoes were old, like they had been under the warming lite for a long time. Other than that, the eggs, veggies and sauce were good. Perhaps rethinking how to make and keep skillet potatoes fresh is in order as well as keeping on hand fresh bread products used in the breakfast menus. I would like to gluten free options and sugar free options if they want business from an increasing population that has sugar and wheat intolerance issues.

  • Judy J.

Food is always good - they cook for me (a vegan) a veggie Benedict with no eggs and extra veggies and green chili instead of hollandaise. We come most Sundays and they don't disappoint!

Breakfast, as a starter is supposed to start your day right... The best thing about the experience was the wait staff and the General Manager; so to their credit, and my wife's penchant for not leaving a restaurant unless being forced to, we ate breakfast at The Egg & I for the second time. The first time was in Steamboat Springs, CO and was a tasty experience if not cozy on a cold fall day this year. I liked it for what it was. Upon entering the new Egg & I, on Alameda, in Lakewood, the place looked great, was large and gently colored, with very high ceilings. Inside was bright and warm even though the front of the building faces north to their parking lot. It was cold and sunny outside. After a moment, I noticed and then mentioned to the hostess, the smell of bad eggs or horror to even mention...sewage. She replied politely that she had heard that earlier, and did not know what it was. I could tell, no matter what, I would smell this the entire meal and not be happy, but I also knew I couldn't leave unless I picked a fight with my wife. I also knew that this would probably be a temporary problem for them and decided to give it the chance on service, food, and ambiance. The large ice tea with a refill carafe on the side made my wife very happy. The water and glass I got was fresh and clean. The choice of breads with my Greek Fritatta, was varied. They had English muffins, wheat, white, biscuits, rye(?), and what I ordered, on nostalgia's sake, 'raisin bread'. The bread was truly the highlight as it seemed home made and perfectly browned with a bit of butter. Probably just grilled with butter on the flat top... The fritatta was tasty, however the pesto sauce they use to top the concoction was ultra oily. Ultra! It could have been the cheese, but I asked and it seems the pesto they use is very oily indeed. Not drained at all. The egg was mixed with artichoke hearts(probably not drained), some herbs and cheese. It was served in a nice casserole dish. The flavor was not bad after I drained off as much oil as I could. My wife did not complain at all. She did not smell the horrific scent either. And so I have wiped it from my memory. The service staff was very, very attentive and professional. The General Manager, who I did not confront about the smell, was very nice, polite, gung ho and interested in the food and success of the restaurant. I will have to make a second trip to decide if I would ever make a third or fourth. There are lots of breakfast places to eat in Lakewood and the smell better be gone or I am 'gone pecan'.....

I will start by saying that I am not the type of person who generally writes reviews about my experiences, however our experience at the Egg and I was so horrendous that I simply cannot let this go. This past Wednesday morning we decided to try something new and visit the new Egg and I restaurant in the Belmar neighborhood. Everything started out great, we were greeted and promptly seated and served waters and coffees while we waited for our 2 friends to arrive. The waitress was clearly very busy but when our friends showed up, she was able to promptly return to the table to get them coffee and water as well. This is where things started to go downhill... First, it took our waitress over 15 minutes to finally return to the table to take our order. Fine, it was kind of annoying but I'd let that pass, she's busy. Next, it took another 20 minutes to get our breakfast and never once did she stop by to refill coffee or our waters. By the time our food arrived, we were starving and began inhaling out breakfasts...then...as my fiance begins to put lettuce on his breakfast tacos, he notices a DEAD FLY in his lettuce. He promptly asked for a manager while the rest of us instantly lost our appetites. The manager arrives and when he shows her the fly, she states "Well, we wash our lettuce. Do you want a new plate?" My fiance tells her that he just wants new potatoes (because the tacos were on a separate plate from the lettuce and the potatoes). The manager brings potatoes back and everything is fine until he takes a bite...ICE COLD POTATOES. This time he gets up from the table to go find the manager. Now, he tells her about the cold potatoes and she replies "Well I don't cook them." He also brings to her attention that they had also messed up my order as well because I had specifically asked for no onions on my dish and it was covered in them but I was so hungry that I didn't even care at this point. He suggests to her that she should take care of our bills, which she does (she hadn't offered by this point, nor had she apologized). When we receive the new bill, there extra charges on there! 3 coffees instead of 2, and a sour cream which was never used and was brought to us by the manager after the initial incident. This bill is ONCE AGAIN presented to the manager, who reluctantly takes them off of the bill as well. During this time there were also other unprofessional moments by the waitress and manager, the waitress stating loudly "Well I'd be disgusted too if I found a fly in my food!" There are other customers here! They also informed us that the lettuce is bagged (they can't chop their own lettuce??), the biscuits and gravy are not made there, and neither are the potatoes. Everything is from a box and placed in a microwave and then left under a heat lamp for who knows how long. Needless to say, we will never again eat there. There are MUCH better breakfast places in this area and we will be taking our business there from now on.

I've been here 4 or 5 times and enjoyed the food and service every time. The wait staff has always been friendly and the food served in a timely manner. I liked there pancakes an think the apple juice is great. My girlfriend really likes there salads. There selection of food isn't huge, but for only serving breakfast and lunch it will cover what most people want.

Great place for breakfast! I had the blueberry pancake with eggs and turkey sausage, loved it. Their home grown hot sauce is nice and spicy. They even let you take your coffee to go!

I had breakfast with some family on Saturday morning. This was my second trip to The Egg & I, so I figured I ought to review it. For breakfast I ordered a veggie benedict which looked terrific but was just bland, bland, bland (although the house hot sauce is pretty good- so that helped liven up the ol' taste buds a bit). The service was generally abysmal (the manager did come around to check on things, but our server seemed to be actively avoiding us- or else he was just that bad at his job). I have to admit to having spilled a cup of water across the table, and not a single staff member noticed or offered assistance. We had to flag down the hostess as she was walking by, and she at least brought a few extra napkins (which then sat inside the spilled glass- because where else could we put soaking napkins?- on the table for the rest of the meal. No refilled water glass (a fitting punishment perhaps, but rather lousy hospitality). It's the little things that make a big difference in a dining experience, and this experience was lacking pretty much all of the little things. Personally, I would much rather go to a family run greasy spoon where I'm going to get more and better food at a substantially lower cost. I will say this, though: The Egg & I does offer terrific coffee (go for the bold blend which was delicious), so it's not all bad (but it is mostly bad).

First and last time. Unorganized staff, waiting for food whole table is not served at the same time. Unbelievable still in business. Not just out table, tables around us also receiving partial orders

I had breakfast here this past weekend while visiting a friend in Denver. Never heard of this place, but apparently it's a chain that originated in Colorado and has locations in some other mountainous states. It's open from 6 to 2 pm, only serving breakfast and lunch. The Egg and I had an ambience of a traditional breakfast diner. I was sooo digging that vibe. The first thing I noticed when we got inside was their tag line, framed in a wall, that reads: "Mother always told you to eat a good breakfast!" Now, I'm in the mood for some gooooodddd breakfast. I browsed thru their pretty extensive menu and I ordered the crabcake benedict. It was soooo yummy! It's served in a skillet with two grilled crabcakes topped with tomato slices, two poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, and served with an English muffin. I loved it! My friend ordered the vegetarian frittata, tried a little, and it was also good. We also had a side of french toast, and my son had a kid's waffle plate. The service was good, the food was great, and if they only have locations in CA, I will be a regular customer.

Bad experience, TWICE ! Our first experience included slow service, batched orders, raw eggs benedit. We gave them the benefit of doubt and decided to try it again a month later. Same slow service, same batched orders, same raw eggs benefit. Whe we sent the eggs benefit back they microwaved them instead of making us new eggs. Will never go back to this restaurant. We've eaten at other Egg and I restaurants in other cities and had good experiences.
