When given the option of going to an Applebee's for dinner or dining at an establishment where the waitresses can best be described as "broads," you take the broads. You ALWAYS take the broads. I was not disappointed! The Cottage Inn is a perfect mix between truckstop and grandma's house. Take a diner (think Breakfast King or Ranch House) and add floral print cafe curtains and a bazillion tchotchkes lining the window ledges ranging from 1970s-era Denver Broncos windsocks to cheap stuffed animals, and there you go. My dining companion frequents the Cottage Inn. He said they're great with breakfasts (served all day); you need to get there early on the weekend. Last night, however, was all about the dinner. He got an enormous serving of fried chicken complete with stuffing, rolls, cranberry sauce, peas, a baked potato, and a starter salad. I had their special - beef tips on noodles. I got to start with a cup of their (incredible) potato soup. When my meal arrived, Mary put some peas on the side for me, too. It is OLD SCHOOL. My food was great and the gravy was awesome. I even ate the peas. I don't even like peas. What? We both polished off everything we ordered and were offered pie before leaving. If I had an extra stomach or two, I totally would have gone for it, but alas, I was out of room. This is the type of place that needs to stick around. This is where you take your grandparents for a home-cooked meal. It's where you take your kids because you know they'll be treated well. It's just homey and comfortable, and yes, most definitely staffed by some seriously cool broads. Did I mention our bill was under $25? Yeah. You should go. If anyone wants to head that way for breakfast with me sometime in the near future, say the word. I have high hopes!

I gave this place two stars for ambiance and tolerability. The food was overpriced for the product, with the obvious exception of the draw-in window deals. The wait staff was the brisk sort of middle-aged to older entourage that treats you as another customer to shuffle out of their booth and generate cash. My meals were unremarkable and the cooks unapologetic for their disinterested treatment of cooking preferences. I understand that it's easier to cook meats to a general temperature. But don't ask a customer how they want a steak or burger cooked if you genuinely don't intend to cook it that way. Or have the slightest inclination to amend the situation if they mention it. I'd go to Perkins, next time. Or Shark's. Or 7-11. Jeez.

I like the atmosphere, it was the food that was "OK". I thought it was expensive for lunch, 2 people with the daily special was $25.

In a time when chains are squeezing out the mom & pop places, this one holds on. There's a reason for that. I've been coming here since the 80s and the food is the same. Awesome. Try the biscuits and gravy for a lighter yummy breakfast!

Old fashioned diner food without the attitude. We love it for family breakfasts on the weekends. Fast service. Over 20 visits and no complaints.

No bueno. The chicken fried steak is clearly frozen/pre-packaged and the gravy atop it, gelatinous and bland, while the breakfast burrito, though tasty, has apparently shrunken by approximately half. I hate when that happens. The hotcakes were all right but real butter wasn't served, just a packet of Country Crock. This is a pet peeve of mine: there should always be fresh cream and real butter; I don't like chemicals and preservatives and don't see the need for any of it at breakfast, when food should be fresh and hot and good. Coffee was pretty weak. However, it definitely feels like a cozy neighborhood place and our waitress was certainly very nice and extra attentive. Two stars for that, plus the tastiness of the breakfast burrito. I'll try Cottage Inn again but honestly was not impressed at all from this visit. Hopefully it will be better next time, and if it is, I'll update accordingly.

Been a year since I last ate breakfast here - decided to hit it again. Was just as good - maybe better - I'm bumping up my rating to 5 stars! I ordered the same thing I did last time: two eggs over easy with corned beef hash, and an English muffin. The breakfast comes with a slice of Watermelon, Honeydew melon, and Cantaloupe. Plus a glass of ice water and coffee. Service was good. Delicious!

We stopped by one morning to have breakfast. The place really does have a cottage feel to it, without it being too over the top and cheesy. My breakfast was good. The only thing worth mentioning is that the pancakes stayed fluffy, even after putting syrup on it and letting them soak it up. That was impressive. Overall, we had a nice, quiet breakfast and it's likely that we will return again.

My wife & I have been coming here 10 years now & have always had pleasant breakfasts & good lunches. This place has been around for years, does all of the classic breakfast plates for a competitive price & has many regulars including the waitresses. Cottage inn consistently puts out quality breakfasts & lunches (haven't been here for dinner). The portions are "regular" as are the selections & flavor. If you're looking for crazy concoctions & huge portions, this place may not be for you. They do the basics & they do them well, along with great old school diner charm.

An old favorite, a new mess.. No longer called cottage inn. Recently returned for breakfast, after a fairly long absence. Everything about the food had changed, and we found out that ownership had changed as well.. Apparently the new owners have forgotten all about quality and freshness.. Won't go back

We all love those old diners, with their home cooked meals, and the memories of our childhood that they evoke. But typically many restaurant owners mistake dirty clutter for nostalgia and you feel like you need to take a shower after eating there. Finding an old school diner was on our list but we weren't expecting to find it on West Colfax. After reading the reviews, we decided to give Cottage Inn a try. It was like walking into my grandmother's house back in the 70's but it was very very clean! They have the typical menu items you would expect from a diner, and I ordered the french toast & bacon while Aaron ordered the chicken friend steak, hashbrowns and eggs. The food was served fast, hot, and exactly as ordered. The staff were all friendly and all the patrons seemed very happy. This is a diner, so you aren't going to get some fancy food, you're going to get good ol' homemade tasting food at a good price...with the added bonus of not having to shower after you eat :) Nice work Cottage Inn!

Maybe I'm biased. But this place has the "Cheers" atmosphere. There are so many regulars which tells you the service they provide. If it wasn't excellent they wouldn't have the repeat business. The food is your typical home cooking. Not your "healthiest" choice. But it's the good feeling comfort food. I have so many fond memories of going here every Saturday morning.

I had to drop my car off at the dealer to get some work done. It was early, we had time to kill and I had hungry kids. Based on the lack of options and reviews on here, we hoofed it down west Colfax to the Cottage Inn. It's a quaint, old-school little diner with funky plaid booths and some rocking 70's decor- silk plants in hanging wicker baskets, fake gas lamp lighting, and more tins than you can shake a stick being the primary offenders. In fact, I don't think the staff has probably changed since the 70's. I had the chicken fried steak- which was perfect as only diner chicken fried steak can be. The kids had French toast and pancakes with some nice looking bacon. I didn't even know they still made Shedd's Spread, but that's what you get here with pancakes. Ah! A little taste of the Midwest! I nearly wept for reminiscencing about my lost childhood! And I have never been gawked at so hard in Denver before. You would think if this hillbilly had discovered Bluetooth, that he might have seen a tattoo or 2 in his life, but I felt like a sideshow attraction. Mostly there were firefighter types eating solitary breakfasts, and little old men. But the waitress was sweet no matter. So if you find yourself far out on west Colfax at 9am with time to kill, step into this time capsule and let yourself be transported to Kansas via 1974. Cheers!
