Went here for the first time tonight! Amazing! They had buffalo, which is always my first choice. My husband also had a burger with very high quality, cooked to perfection, bacon. The buns were grilled and buttery! The onion rings were over breaded and not very well seasoned, but their fries were hand cut and delicious! This place is definitely in our rotation

They say they get all their meat ground then form pattys them selves for their burgers. Who ever "hand formed my burger" left the bone shard in it and served it to me. When I told them how my hamburger had a bone in it, they did not believe me. They said that it probably was not a piece of bone just a thick piece of gristle. Nope. Just a bone. It was rock hard. Eat here and you may just be consuming ground up bone in your burger and you may not be able to catch it before you swallow. Ewww

I recently visited this place on Wednesday hoping to have another $1 pristine craft beer with a burger only to find the selection of beer has taken a 180. There is no longer Firestone Walker, Stone, or Dogfish Head bottles offered. The cooler is well stocked with crappy domestic Bud, Coors, and Corona. The best they had to offer was a Goose Island IPA :P I feel my previous review was based too heavily off of the $1 quality craft beers and when combined with the food I should have given this place three stars. Now that they take away the great selection of beer I don't have much else to rate them on except the burgers they offer. For the price and the time it takes to get your food this place serves two star burgers.

    1) Expensive for menu quality. 2) Excessive wait time for basic menu items. 3) They made several mistakes including undercooked beef served without a top bun, dried and overcooked meat on another food belonging to other patrons, snotty attitude from shift leader (completely subjective impression). After returning our cold, incorrect good several times, a refund was offered and accepted as well as a correctly-prepared burger to take home. It was embarrassing to our friend who recommended this spot. And his order had the most number of screw-ups. It's really not my sort of place; I expect my food to be prepared correctly.

Not bad. Not great but not bad. I stopped in here for a quick dinner and ordered the Rajin Cajun with a side salad. The good is that they actually check with you about all of the ingredients that come on it so you aren't surprised by something you hate. The salad was a very generous size, and the beer is cheap too. There's also a condiment bar in the middle of the place with pickles, peppers, onion, etc so you can indulge in your favorite toppings. The burger itself isn't special, and the bun wasn't very good, but I certainly wasn't unhappy with the meal. I'd come back for a bite if the mood strikes.

Great location in Belmar. Loved the Nathan's hot dog. Duane had the Colorado Burger (always have to have a bite!)...yummy! The jalapeño popper's we're awesome but unfortunately the French fries sucked. They we're limp, lifeless and tasted as if they had been frozen...yuck. So other than crappy French fries, everything was great.

Visit: 8/5/15 @ 3:50pm Order to food delivery...:17min!!!! For A (1) single burger! Food: Nothing great, best premade patty you can get at Cosco... Cleanliness: Wow, just wow. Bathroom (mens) was scarry, totally nasty. Tables, uncleared not clean, floor unswept and hasn't seen a mop in god knows how long. *Customer service: none really and Attitude SUCKED. This place shouldn't be open long, absolutely unimpressed!

Came in with my girlfriend and had two burgers, chili cheese fries and sweet potato fries. Their food is of okay caliber, honestly the same as Red Robin or Smashburger. My order was rung up with an extra burger which was resolved quickly. The burgers come MEDIUM, if nothing is said to you about how you want your burger done and you don't like medium, tell them. I had to request that one of our burgers be re-cooked to 'well' and remade. Giving this place 3 stars because I still go to it frequently.

Within a week, I came to Champa St. Burger Works twice, with company, and ordered more or less the same things: beef burger, fries, turkey burger. The first time the turkey burger was exceptional, even better than the beef burger! It was not dry at all and had a very flavorable char, topped with mayo (the only condiment I requested), I couldn't get enough of it! Naturally when I return the second time I had to ask for the same turkey burger, but I was asked, after requesting mayo, if I wanted any cheese. I said no, but grilled onions would be a plus, they gladly complied and didn't even charge me extra! I was reminded of why I liked Champa St - it lets you customize your burger, the buns are buttered and toasted and has a nice glazed top, and the food's made to order. This time around though, my turkey burger was not so good, it was not moist like the last time and didn't have much flavor! They must have forgotten my mayo! Thank god it was topped with A BUNCH of grilled onions, and with a lot of ketchup, I still finished it. Ironically, the fries were super salty that my tongue literally hurt. Guess who cooks the food really makes a difference here. And if you're lucky, you'll get a very good turkey burger so don't be afraid to ask for it! I'd have to rate it at 3.5 stars (averaging last week's 4-star with this week's 3-star). Please keep up the good work, Champa St.! I'm not done coming here yet! :-D

Messed up every single item we ordered. Then we waited 30 minutes for our order to be fixed. Food came out less than appetizing. We will not be returning. :(

  • Pi L.

Wow..... Where do I even begin? The last review was bad enough. Then I came back. Lol they lose my ticket. Waited exactly 30 mins before i asked them what was up. Alondra tells me I'll be getting a refund and a free burger or a free burger when i come back in. I take the refund and wait for my food. Another 25 mins go by. Nothing. Turns out she never put my other order in. Lol. About an hour here. No apologies. No food. This place has sadly become a product of the idiots they hire overshadowing their food. WORTHLESS. THERE'S A REASON WHY THEY BASICALLY GIVE AWAY FREE BEER. ONLY COME ON WEDNESDAY AND HAVE LOW EXPECTATIONS.

Ehhhh... James F and I stopped by Champ St. Burger Works to meet up with friends for $1 beer night. Uh, yeah, you read that right! $1 bottle beer night! I would have been super excited to get Bud Light for $1, but CSBW actually had a great selection of beers from which to choose. And for some ungodly reason, I went with Pacifico. But hey, you can't beat a $1. So why the 2 stars? The place was a mad house and food was pretty terrible. And I'm not too picky about either of those things. Sure, the staff did a fairly decent job of getting your order out in time, but what did you get with your order? James found the piece of paper that separates cheese slices from each other on his burger. Ugh. CSBW quickly made another burger, but still, that's a pretty nasty oversight. Meh. The only reason to come here is for the $1 beer nights on Wednesdays. I can't imagine any other reason, truly.

We tried this place for lunch the other day after signing a new lease in the area. Looking forward to trying the patio on a warmer day. Both my fiance & I got the cheese burger, a $1.50 draft beer, & shared a basket of fries. It is cooked to order so if you are starving it seems like a bit of a wait. Burger had 2 slices of cheese which was almost too much. Next time will ask for 1. I enjoyed the bun, meat had decent char, & I appreciated that they got our condiments correct & had a condiment bar. Fries were ordered crispy & they were still soggy :( Will definitely revisit if craving a burger in the Belmar area.

The soda machine was down. The lady asked if I wanted a combo and informed me that the soda machine was down but offered me a bottle of water. She said she would have to charge me for the water. I'm wondering why someone would offer me something they don't have? Poor service.

Champa is a family favorite for the last few years. I've recently broadened my horizons and now my favorite is the Jalapeno Cream Cheese Burger! I love that draft beers are only $1.50, what a bargain!

Sometimes it can be sooo good and at other times they can't get the order straight to save themselves... tonight the order taker had to actually argue with the so called cooks about what constitutes a toasted bun... we sent the buns back twice because we ordered them extra toasted and they came out twice just barely toasted; the bottom buns had absolutely no color on them whatsoever. My wife pointed out that by the time the buns came back out, the burgers would be cold, and, sure enough, they were. She asked the order taker to just have them do the entire order again, but was told the cooks would get the buns toasted correctly the 2nd time through. They didn't! My wife sent hers back for a 3rd try, but changed her mind and just asked for her $$ back; I just ate my cold burger on a poorly toasted and soggy bun with no further complaint . She (my wife) put together a makeshift salad of shredded lettuce, tomato, and onion from the condiment bar and drizzled a quickly made fry sauce dressing (mayo & ketchup) on it. I rated this visit at 2 stars because the front staff tried to make things right and no one can argue the fact that Champa Street Burgerworks has the best overall price on beer of any restaurant in town!

I think this place is pretty great. We eat here about once a month. Sometimes the food is better than others but it's a pretty solid place. 1.50 bottle night is a fantastic way to try some different beers. The place is always packed though so try to get there before 6. My favorite is the buffalo bacon burger and fries. Their fried mushrooms are pretty decent too.

  • Jon S.

They have a great selection of burgers including Buffalo and Elk. They balanced menu that offers something for everyone. They have a decent selection of bottled beers to drink with your burger. Great place to have lunch with your friends or business partners. I would definately return oneday.

    (4)
  • Joel K.

The food here is good. Not the best or worst in town. they've got a variety of burger and hotdog options. Slightly different than Five Guys, and in my opinion not *quite* as tasty. They have Lots of bottled beers in the case, so that's nice. Unfortunately the service during my visit was terribly slow. Staff seems more interested in goofing off with each other than serving the few customers who were there.

    (2)
  • Gregory K.

Eh. Waited in line for longer than expected. Ordered a patty melt which was fairly decent. Took over 10 minutes for food to be made. Thought that was a little long. Won't be returning unless a friend insists on going.

Yuck yuck yuck! I am so done with this place. The only reason that I kept going back was because it was close to work. The food is ALWAYS pretty sorry. Every time I've ordered anything with meat (beef, chicken and even hot dogs) I've gotten serious stomach cramps. The fries are almost always soggy, cold and even undercooked. One of my friends had a raw burger and another found a bug in her salad. Their ice cream machine is always down and the last shake I got there tasted sour. The girl asked if I wanted another one but I demanded a refund. Soda tastes flat. And their grilled cheese sandwiches... How can you possibly screw up a grilled cheese!? Well, they manage somehow with either burnt bread or better still, a cold cheese sandwich that has barely been toasted. Most of the staff seem to hate their jobs and can be pretty discourteous. I also never see anyone wipe things down. Tables, floors and condiment bottles are sticky. Seriously, this place is nasty. You will get better food and better service if you go to your local McDonald's.

We were in the mood burger and decided to try the newest incarnation at this location. Glad we did! The burgers are made to order off the grill and it really sets it apart from your typical fast food burger joint. They are big and the toppings are fresh and tasty. The ordering process is smooth and easy. Clean place and the music is not too loud. Great burger joint in the Belmar area.

This place shouldn't receive even a star the service sucks the food is terrible asked for tea but none was made. When they did make it it was watered down. Staff is lazy tables are filthy. Use to be way better. Now just is terrible.

Update! Went here for dinner the night before Thanksgiving for dollar beer night. Not sure what to expect but not totally surprised that the place was a mad house! Despite that fact, we were able to find a table right away as others were leaving. How did the staff handle this craziness? Like a bunch of professionals! Our sizeable order was ready in a timely manner and the food was perfect as always. We got 2 burgers, 2 orders of fries, a kids meal and 4 (really good, top quality)beers for under $30. I love this place.

Just a quick note: we were out running errands today in this summer-like weather and thought we'd stop for a cold draft beer. Now normally the nice folks at Champa have at least one "good" beer on draft, and there is a sign in the window that advertises NB Fat Tire on draft "all day, every day", but that wasn't the case today... 2 light beers on draft, yuchho :-(... come on, Joe, don't be so cheap! And don't advertise things you don't have.

Swung in on a Wednesday evening- all bottles of beer = $1. Fries were good, burger solid, decent patio. A bit of a party scene but there were all types there. Will be back!

  • Demitri R.

I do like $1.50 beers and on Wednesday the beers are 1.00. I've seen the burgers on the little signs displayed on the windows. So I Finally ventured in. I ordered the 1/2lb Angus burger with sweet potato fries and the toppings I got on top were lettuce, fried onions and tomatoes and relish. The burger was stacked and thankfully they have knives to cut it in half. But there is a such thing as to many toppings the burger wouldn't stay in between the buns. It was tasty and done medium well and could of used a little seasoning. The sweet potatoes were delicious and came out piping hot. 1 gripe. They put the burger and fries in the same basket and it gets cramped. Ask for them in separate baskets. I also ordered the bananas foster sundae it's with foster bites and I figured it would be bananas and caramel sauce. So I doubt I would order it again. Plenty of TVs and fans and nice out door seating as well.

So I had to write an update for the $1.00 beers on Wednesdays. I got off work mid-afternoon yesterday and decided to give Champa Street another go. There were a few more tables of folks of every sort. Most enjoying one or two bottles of beer and food. After not being impressed with the burgers, I decided to sample one of their bratwurst and fries along with a Sol Beer ($1.00). Food= okay, nothing special-- but okay. (Maybe I have been spoiled by the guys @ Uber Sausage ??) All in all-- if you are looking for dollar bottle beers (Corona, Heineken, Sol, etc..) and some okay food -- stop in and relax on a Wednesday

Good buffalo burgers. They dont ask you how you want it done. Came out well done but moist. Flavor was good. Good beer prices and selection. Wish they did a better job of wiping the tables. Nothing special about this place.

We stinking love this place! Great food, great customer service and $1.50 draft beer! We always ask for our fries "extra crispy" other wise they would turn up like limp.......sticks... Food is delish and we frequent here often! Wednesday's are always fun for $1.00 bottle beer night!

If going to Belmar to party for the night this is the place to start. Good Burgers and ALL draft any hour any day is 1.50!

This is the closest I have found (so far) to my beloved Fuddruckers burger. The bun is butter toasted and the Champa burger patty was thick, juicy and well-done, not over or under cooked. They have sweet potato fries like Smashburger does and a fresh toppings bar, albeit small, reminiscent of Fuddruckers too. The establishment was clean. This used to be the old Baja Fresh Mexican grill so it still looks pretty much the same. Located on the corner of Alaska and Saulsbury at Belmar with lots of big windows and high-top table seating. You order at the counter and are greeted by an unenthusiastic teenager with absolutely no social skills of any kind. She didn't even say hi or ask us what we would like, just stared at us waiting to take our order without saying a WORD. Oh well, just give me the damn burger. They give you a big table serving number so we sat there expecting them to bring our food to us but then they call out your number and you have to pick it up at the counter yourself. What was the point of giving us the big table flag? Makes absolutely no sense to me but whatever. I'm just here for the food. The food was yummy. The taste brought back pleasant memories of eating at Fuddruckers. And it's within walking distance from my house. Can't beat that. Except maybe the price. $11 for a burger, fries and drink. Pretty much the same as Smashburger. I guess that's pretty much average for a decent burger nowadays. At least I have found a decent substitute for Fuddruckers when I'm actually in the mood for a burger and that's good enough for me.

Champa Street is a nice addition to the Belmar dining scene. It's casual, bright, and unpretentious - a nice place to grab a burger and hang out with family and friends. There are a few other sandwiches, but Champa Street is about burgers (and to a lesser extent hot dogs). Burgers aren't great, but are large (1/3 pound) and good. Having said this, the Ragin' Cajun comes pretty close to greatness (battered and fried jalapenos, pepper jack cheese and hot wing sauce on a cajun-spiced burger). I like that they have a "fixins bar" - lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions - dress your burger as you like it. Fries are good (skin on which I like best) and onion rings are great. And there's one other thing that Champa Street Burger Works appears to be about - beer. $1.50 drafts every day and $1.00 bottled beer on Wednesdays (and an interesting assortment - not just Bud and Coors). Not surprising that they have a relatively younger clientele. (In case anyone actually reads these reviews and at the risk of sounding preachy, I feel compelled to encourage Champa Street patrons to drink responsibly - at a dollar a bottle it's really easy to over-drink and I saw a lot of tables last night with way too many empty beer bottles for the number of guests at the table). Okay - back to the review - sounds pretty positive, so why only a 3? Three reasons: 1. it's really a 3.5, but Yelp won't indulge us with fractions (c'mon, Yelp - give us a break.); 2. I think it's a little overpriced. Burgers range from $5.00 to $8.00 ala carte. For $3.50 you can make it a meal-deal (fries or onion rings and a soft drink), but unless you get the basic burger you're looking at at least $10-$12 per person - not exorbitant but kind of pricey for what you get; and, 3. it's good but not great - there are better than merely "good" burgers around. Still, I'll go back to Champa Street. There's nothing wrong with 3's and nothing wrong with "good." There's nothing else like Champa Street in Belmar, and having a good burger and hanging out in Belmar is a fine way to spend an evening.

I went there a couple of times and always got the elk burger. It is good, I really like how you can add any toppings of your choice. The burgers we took, with swiss cheese and mushrooms, were very very greasy though! Otherwise I like the feel of the place, the decor.

    (3)
  • Eden R.

Food was pretty good (but I ordered mushrooms on my burger and didn't get them so had to send it back, also fries were cold, sent those back too and got hot fries) and quick and the place was packed. Front of the house cleanliness was not great, hoping the back is cleaner. The condiment bar had no pickles and despite my asking the table wiping staff (two different people) and being assured that pickles were being brought out, they didn't refill the pickle tray the whole time we were there. Over all experience was meh, not bad when you need a greasy burger, but not super impressed.

We were walking around Bel Mar and wanted some food. The $1.50 fat tire caught my eye and we decided to get a burger. They have a nice butter marinade they soak the buns with, once you dab the top with a napkin it's edible. The fries were soggy like undergarments on a hot summers day. The decor resembles my great grandfathers ski memorabilia. All things aside the beer were delightful, but I thought I ordered bacon on my burger?

On a good day I'll give one star. NEVER have to go orders ready and never listen my order is always wrong. Staff is rude and I accommodating. Stay away!!!

So, it's a bit steep for a lunchtime stop. $11 for a (small, 1/3 lb) plain burger, fries, and a drink. Nonetheless, it was a decent burger, fries, and drink. They do have a decently priced Kids' Meal. We'll see if they let me order from it. At these prices, I'd like to see more "topping" options on the toppings bar. But they DO have some good ones, like the Pickled Mild Peppers and the Jalapenos. And I gotta say, their Cream Cheese and Fried Jalapeno Burger looks pretty darn good. The Meat: Thicker-style patty, decent quality beef, cooked Medium-Well (Without asking, but it was juicy). The Bun: Not as good as Smashburger's egg bun, but it was fresh and held up just fine. The Toppings: Fresh lettuce, tomatoes and onions, pickled mild peppers, dill pickle chips, and Jalapenos. Also ketchup, mustard, mayo (in packets), steak sauce, worcheschire, and Tabasco. The Fries: We got a basket of Sweet Potato Fries. They were straight from the Sysco bag, but they were served hot, crisp, and pretty much hit the spot. They *were* a big enough portion to be considered shareable, so that's a plus in the money department. The "Atmosphere": Eh. Tables. High-Tops. A Patio. Nothing stands out, but it wasn't offensive, either. The "Service": Well, all they do is take your order. Then they give you an absurdly large identifying number, as if they are going to bring your food out to you... but THEN they call you, cattle-call style, and you go to the counter to pick up your own food. So why the ginormous number? Maybe there's a high sight-impaired population wandering Bel-Mar. Plusses: $1 beer Wednesdays and, apparently, $1.50 draughts. Cool. Also my baby said it reminded him of his beloved Fuddruckers. I love watching him eat happy. So I'm sure we'll be back, at some point.

Really nothing amazing here at all.....Played out as upscale via pricing....Average Burger, soda bar setup....Nothing to set it apart from the competition.

Just because there are burger joints popping up everywhere, does not mean they are all good... But this one actually delivered! Let me justify my score: While I do LOVE a gourmet burger place with all SORTS of crazy crap you can put on your burger to make it unique and tasty, there is also room for a more traditional well executed standard burger. This place is the latter. There is an option for peanut butter, a little unusual but good, but for the most part your options revolve around bacon and cheese choices. THEY EXECUTE THE FUNDAMENTALS! They do list Jalapeno poppers on the menu, but they are really jalapeno bottle caps. They are good and there are a TON. Super Strong Side note: The beer prices are great. Not just domestic crap. Solid craft beer choices at STRONG prices. Especially on Wednesdays!

Step 1- Walk in and order the burger you want from the menu on the wall. Step 2- Take your little number sign and walk over to the fountain area and fill your paper drink cup. Step 3- Wait at least 10 to 15 minutes for your burger to be cooked (note, establishment is notably empty) Step 4- That handy little sign you place on your table ? Forget it. Do they BRING you your food? Nope ! They holler out your number so that you can run to the counter like you won on "The price is right !" (Remember to jump up and down and laugh hysterically, because you are STARVING !) Step 5- Realize after you make your way back to the table, that there on no condiments on your over-priced burger, and make your way to the little salad bar for the burgers, and search for the mayo. Step 6- Stop one of the people who wipe down tables (Remember, these people do not BRING you your food..they are only trained to wipe off tables) Ask her if there is any mayo available ? (Say "please") She replies they, in fact DO have mayo...then reaches over to another customers table and takes the mayo they took OFF The burger condiment bar, and put on their own table...I guess they needed LOTS of mayo!) Step 7- Feel embarassed that you wanted mayo, and that you took the whole bottle from another customer (Gee....why do they not have more than ONE bottle available?!?!) Promptly hold the bottle upside down, shake it once and squeeze...and then out comes the mayo in a HUGE mayo fart, sending farticles of mayo ALL OVER YOUR JACKET !) Step 8- Consume burger and leave.

Decided to try these guys out and ordered the Southern Fried Chicken sandwich. Huge mistake. The chicken was dry and overcooked, but hey, that wasn't the worst part. They use some of the lowest quality chicken around. The last time I had minced up chicken meat served in a chicken sandwich would have been the last time I had the BK chicken sandwich. yuck!! Someone needs to tell Champa St Burger Works that southern fried chicken is actually made with whole chicken fillet, not the minced processed 'chicken' that they are calling southern fried. I can get a better southern fried chicken sandwich at McDonalds.. they actually use chicken breast fillet! I'd suggest going somewhere else for better quality food... or at the very least, stay away from the chicken!

Frozen hamburgers over cooked. Old french fries. Piss poor service. Every table we went to sit at was filthy. Had to ask employee to wipe table off. Employees seem to not care about customers needs. This was my second time here. The first was quite good. But this time was extremely disappointing. I don't think I will be returning to this establishment ever.

Good: Beer prices Bad: Food. Very bland and the fries were cold Ugly: Service. If you are going to specialize in something that I can easily make at home, at least be friendly.

This place is weak and the food is poor. Your better of going to McDonalds or Burger King. I bet they go to the local Sam's Club or Costco and buy their meat. The burger was not good at all. I will say that the fries were good but for 2 burgers and some fries, paying 20 bucks was unjustifiable. On top of it all they forgot to add the toppings I paid for. Worst service ever. They have a better beer selection than they do anything else.

  • Tres B.

This is a direct knock off of Five Guys Burger and Fries, but not nearly as good. Bland burger with no particular flavor cold fries. I was told proudly my order would be out in "8 minutes guaranteed." But your receipt prints an order- in time. Try 17 minutes on a slow night. When I asked what the guarantee was worth, I got a nervous laugh and told "nothing really" THEN WHY SAY IT? Also, before tasting the food, I asked if they have a take out menu. "We haven't done that yet" Really? They been open a couple years...."But try the internet". So this is an F- in business. Why put the burden on the customer to go find your place on the web and print a menu? Astonishingly really.

People People People...this is fast food, pure and simple. You will have to wait when the line is full or if the restaurant is busy. Serving sizes are improved. You will have to share condiments and take care of yourself and your own meal when you go. There is one great restaurant next door as well.

I decided to stop in to try Champa St. Burger Works after passing by it a number of times. I'm glad I did. It was fairly busy for a Saturday evening, and I waited in line for approx. 3-4 minutes. But that gave me a moment to look at the menu. They are, as the name suggests, a burger joint. But they also offer hot dogs, salads, appetizers and a few desserts. I'm partial to bacon burgers, myself, and this one did not disappoint. It tasted fresh and juicy. Got the fries/drink combo for a little extra. Fries were ok, a little soggy. But as a whole, a decent combination meal. Atmosphere was very pleasant, 1980's music playing over head. Tv's were on a sports channel. I'd visit again and bring friends.

Holy Moly I don't get why this place has less than 5 stars for soooo many reasons. I only eat turkey burgers so I was overjoyed to see they could accomodate me. I'll skip straight to when my order arrived. My burger, I was glad to see, was a REAL burger. Hand formed and not some frozen patty and it was huge, as was my wifes cow burger. There is a little area where all the fixins are such as pickles, onions, peppers, etc. Love it! Taste is always great and cooked perfectly. They also have several fancy burger options that my wife likes. They also have buffalo and elk I believe. The fries should be ordered extra crispy as they are made with fresh cut potatoes and sometimes they are a little underdone if you don't order that way. I've seen into the kitchen and they have bags and bags and bags of fresh potatoes so I know they cut them there. The sweet potato fries are also very good. One of the best things about this place is that they have $1.50 beer everyday which is usually Coors Light, Blue Moon, and two other random selections. On Wednesdays, they have $1 bottle beers and have one of the largest selections of bottles i've seen in a small burger joint. The staff is very friendly and we are there enough that they have learned our order and have our beers ready for us. They have outside patio seating for the warmer days and inside seating for the cooler or very warm days. There are tv's all over if you need to keep an eye on your game while you eat. Give Champa a try, you'll love it!

So I wasn't planning on eating here today but Delaney's deli was closed for no apparent reason. I have eaten here several times and I am always pleased. Today I had the Cream Cheese Burger. Which comes fully loaded with cream cheese jalapeno bottle caps and all the fixing's. Awesome Burger!!! Side of sweet potato fires with a complimentary side of maple syrup! Every restaurant should serve maple syrup with the sweet potato fries!!! $1.50 draft beers all day every day and $1.00 bottle beers on Wednesday!! Again Awesome!! Mind you these aren't domestic beers. They have a good selection of craft beers.. So if you want a great burger in the Belmar area "CHAMPA" is a must..

The only good thing about this place was the $1 happy hour beer. I've only been to this location but the burgers were bad enough for me to never visit this one or any other again. And don't even bother ordering to temp...you're getting medium-well regardless.

The burgers are great. The fried food is great. The service is great. The burgers are a bit pricy, but with $1 beers (it's a pretty large selection of beer I might add) you can't go wrong. It's always a good environment and an easy place to meet new friends.

I've tried this place twice and have been disappointed with both. It is set up to be quick serve but you are likely to wait at least 20 minutes and somehow have cold food. The last visit there involved them messing up my order twice, calling my number several times for no reason, and by the time I got my food the cheese was nearly frozen and the meat was awful. For the same money you can do a lot better in the area.

Been here a couple of times since I bought a place in belmar. All I can say is that the burgers are great. Made your way. Good quality beef, prices are reasonable for quality you get. This is not Mcdonalds, If you have a Mcdonalds palate, keep going there. You won't be happy here. I'll be back and hopefully the haters won't so it won't be so crowded the next time I go.

We ordered to-go service. The staff was friendly and efficient. My husband got the elk burger and loved it. I thought my Patty Melt was good. Only negative is that the fries were soggy. Eww. I'll visit them again for a quick take-out meal at good prices.

I really liked the burgers: I got a bacon cheeseburger and it was delish. I could tell that they seasoned the meat, and I appreciated that. I also like that you have the option to put on your own toppings at what used to be the baja fresh salsa bar. They also have $1.50 16 oz drafts (pretty sure all the time) and we all know that is a good deal for beer. Really friendly service and sparking clean as well. The only reason I didn't give them five starts is because, while their fries are hand cut, they are not fresh, they're frozen. My tongue can taste the difference. That being said, I would definitely go back and would recommend this place to a friend. It's a great place to go before/after a movie, and with the flat screen tv's and cheap beer, maybe even a place to watch a game!

Quite Frankly, I'd rather go across Wadsworth to Carls Jr. get a better burger that comes with fries and a drink! Waited almost 45 minutes my first visit for a burger (just a burger) that cost me just over 9$. The burger itself was mediocre. Okay let's try again..... 30 minute wait for a hot dog - at least I think it was a hot dog? Blech! I give up.... again Carl's Jr. has a better deal and a better burger!

I should've known from some other reviews, but I have a friend who told me she really liked this place so I decided to try it. Well, I tried it... :/ They actually have an elk burger on the menu...and sweet potato fries. I was actually pretty excited. I haven't had elk in a long time. It's too bad they took an old, unseasoned frozen patty from the walk in and overcooked it to a rubbery consistency and then placed it on the cheapest hamburger bun they could find and charged me $12. *sigh* It was pretty gross. The sweet potato fries were okay, although they could've been crispier (hint: the sweet potato fries at Delaney's Deli just a block away are way better) and they serve them with...are you ready? Pancake syrup. Not maple syrup. Not a brown sugar sauce. Maple flavored corn syrup. WHY? On the up side, they have Coke Zero. Plus, the people I was with really enjoyed their meals: a jalapeno cream cheese burger and a chicken caesar salad. I won't be going back.

Ok, deff had better. first its not very clear where or how things work if you've never been. You wait to order at a counter, they give you a number than you try to find a seat (sort of like flying with southwest) than they bring you your food, if your lucky. I was given the wrong # at the counter so while my friends ate I waited and waited while hearing them call the same # over and over again I finally went to find out if 1 really meant 7? and it did. no apology whatevs oh well. so my semi cold burger and my friends are done by now. it was ok, all # drama aside but kinda disappointed for the price I paid

Went there for lunch and left disappointed. The burger and fries were good but definitely not $12 good. The service was severely lacking from the cashier to the counter folks. Find a 5 Guys Burgers for a better and cheaper burger.

You know, this place really isn't THAT bad. It's something new and different for the Belmar area...a place to grab a quick burger and beer, without having to tip a server. They have a ton of different burgers to choose from, but I usually go w/ the cream cheese/jalapeno burger. The japs are beer battered, which adds a great crunch to the burger. I'm a big fan of the sweet potato fries, dipped in ranch and hot sauce of course. NOT the side of syrup they serve them with...gross. And how can you argue w/ $1.50 drafts...which even includes Blue Moon! They also have a decent selection of bottles of beer...which are only a $1.00 on Wednesdays. So they are doing lots of things well. Unfortunately, they're also doing some things very very poorly. Like cooking every burger well done. I have asked for mine Medium, Medium Rare, and Rare...hoping to eventually get a sliver of pink. Nope. Well done. Every time. And then there's the giant numbers they give you after you order. Usually those are meant to help the employees, to deliver your order to the table. Nope. Not here. They call out your order (in hard to hear/understand broken English) and you have to go pick it up. I don't mind picking up my food... but a gigantic number really isn't necessary. Lastly, it frustrates me that I can't take my beer to one of their outside tables. Apparently since it's not fenced in, alcohol isn't allowed. Lame. How hard would it be to put up a small fence/divider so your patrons can enjoy their frosty adult beverage out in the fresh air? Despite their shortcomings, I still go back every once in awhile, because of everything they are doing right. If they would only work out a few of the kinks, then this place would definitely be rockin'.

I love the flavors in their Champa Cream Cheese burger. I would have never thought to try cream cheese on a burger but it helped with the heat of the jalapeño. I have noticed that their burgers have a tendency to be a tad on the dry side but that doe sent deter from the flavor.

The menu was good and had done different burgers to try which otherwise you would not. I had the Asian burger and was presently surprised. Not the best I've ever had but not a grease fest like so many burgers. The wife enjoyed her turkey burger. The sweet potatoe fries were piety bad. Soggy and not warm enough. I love a Shake with my burger and they only do 3 flavors which was also sad. Beer was cheap if your a beer lover. So burgers good and the rest just ok. Park burger on pearl street is way better.

Can I give someone a negative star? This place was awful! Over priced, super slow (I guess the cow still needed to murdered) and did I mention rude service? Yha, that too. Burger came out missing the gauc I paid extra for and overall everything was just okay...boring and not worth the cost. Should have gone to the WF near by serving the same meal for the same amount...except better. This place is the reason I dont like trying new things.

This place gets 2 stars because of its beers. It has quality beers for unbelievable prices. Seriously unbelievable. But the problem is....this isn't the kind of place you'd want to drink in. It's like the sloppy sibling of a Steak and Shake. It's uncomfortably bright, the seating is awkward and the vibe is overall uncomfortable. Where it loses most points are its burgers though. You walk into this place and see the menu and the prices and you believe you are getting a gourmet burger. But you don't. The burgers are around the level of Carl's Jr. burgers. Which is to say that they are better than fast food burgers, but not up to par with restaurant burgers. And for their price...you expect a lot more. The drinks are super cheap, especially for their quality. But the burgers are super expensive, especially for their quality.

We actually really liked this place! It just opened up in Belmar and a friend and I stopped in for lunch today to check it out. The burger (we both had plain ones, nothing fancy) was delicious and not too huge; I love a good burger, but hate that to get one you usually have to order one of those 1/2 pound monstrosities. At Champa Burger Works the sandwiches are a more manageable size, but still offer some gourmet appeal. I wouldn't say they are 5 star by any means, but they beat a fast food burger out of the water. The reason I do not have 5 stars for this is twofold: a. If I'm going to waste calories on a burger, part of me would rather visit a SmashBurger or FatBurger. Regardless, we would visit Champa again if for no other reason than the burgers are still very tasty, but not huge. Bonus. b. The restrooms and dining floor were pretty dirty - brand new restaurant but it looked like nobody had yet bothered to clean up that day. We will visit again!

A good burger requires seasoning! Especially a turkey burger. This place is in my neighborhood so I decided to try. The fries are really good - very well seasoned. Surprised the turkey was just blah.

Showed up here on a Sunday around lunch time. There was a farmers market across the street which likely contributed to the crowd they had. Upon arriving to this location I found it was very, very similar to the Baja Fresh that previously called this location home. I can't be really surprised by the number of people because when Baja Fresh was here there seemed to be a steady stream of customers never really understood why they closed up and left. When I ordered I noticed that the prices seemed quite high for a somewhat fast food joint. I believe the burgers start around 7 dollars and don't include fries or a drink of any sort. If you add a drink and fries they have a combo which adds basically 3 bucks and some change to your burger price. I got the bacon burger with cheese and as a combo came out to just over 11 bucks. I found it a little on the pricy side of things but I had high hopes of a great burger. I mean after all I am paying near what I would expect for a burger, heck I could go get a Kobe burger at a 5 star dine in location downtown for 14 bucks. This 11 dollar burger is going to be great. That is what I kept telling myself and hoping for because that is missing from Belmar we could use a great steak place or burger joint. Trust me it would make a killing... Slow, slow but maybe it just felt that way sitting there waiting for my order to be called (at least Johnny rockets would bring your food to you lol). Once my number was called I went to the counter and picked up my food. I stopped off at the toppings bar area and found the selection was very good with what appeared to be fresh toppings. I went back to my table (hadn't been cleaned since the last visitor but I expect that in a fast food joint.) and started with a nice large bite. My hopes of an amazingly great burger were dashed as mediocre frozen patty flavor set in. Like has been reported before the cheese wasn't melted on the burger but instead tossed on and was cool. I love a nice hot burger fresh off the grill but that wasn't in the cards here. Still very edible and the fries weren't all that bad. They need to make some big changes here if they expect to stick around. Good news is that they have 6 televisions around the restaurant so you can get some time watching the game and they serve beer which I can only assume would make the food taste better. Bottom line, fast food quality and taste at sit-down restaurant prices.

Burger and fries were pretty good. However, I'm not sure if there was a mix-up regarding the jalapeno poppers or they don't know what that is, but I received fried jalapeno rings, which were flavorless.

This is something different to do for lunch. Good variety of different meats and add-ons for your burger. The fries are a little limp, but overall good stuff. Casual atmosphere, helpful staff, clean surroundings.

I was hoping for a new "knock your socks off" burger joint, and instead got overpriced fast food. It was not horrible, but it did taste of frozen food. One thing that I didn't like was the bread was huge and the burger was very small in comparison, yet the bread was very tasty and the fries were just average at best. I got the Colorado Burger combo and it cost over $10, and as everyone else has pointed out the huge numbers they give you are lame also it was not the cleanest place. I would choose 5 Guys, Smashburger, Red Robin... over this place in anytime. The only way I would eat here again is if it were half the price, and I don't see that happening.

I felt like I had to write an update to this since my dad asks me to bring him a burger probably once a week. Every time my parents come over, that's where he wants to go, and even my mom likes it (she is normally so not a burger kind of person). My fiance asks to go every time he's in town, too. I'm sad I'm moving out of Belmar so I won't be able to eat there as often.

I love this place and so does everyone in our family! No matter what other places come up.... 9 times out of 10 times we will end up here! Burgers are great! Turkey burger and vegetarian options also.... and, WOW! Talk about killer onion rings and french fries! Keep 'em coming Bill! We will definitely be back!

I almost gave this place 2 stars, but the more I think about it the least amount of stars they will get, this place was far from exceptional. I ordered the patty melt meal. If I would have seen the price to make it a combo, I would have only got the sandwich. The fries were edible at best. My sandwich tasted good at the time, but it was cut very oddly. What they call service I call a cattle call. After reading their menu that is an odd angle, I had to hurry and order, thus hastily ordering a combo with out looking at a price. Then I waited for about 15 minutes from them to call my number over a loud speaker. They should make a choice of either a sit down restaurant or a fast food joint, because doing whatever it is they call it sucks. Now that I have been home for several hours my heart burn is out of control and my stomach is noisier than the t.v. (I'm pretty sure that it isn't normal). I also don't like the fact that my hands still smell like my meal, even with a shower and a washing with dish soap I still smell like a hamburger.

Family went there for a quick evening meal. The cheeseburgers were okay, but nothing to rave about. The onion rings were good. The fries would have been good but were too salty. My son didn't finish the milk shake, saying he's had better. the $3.50 upcharge for the meal deal (adding a drink and fries) was excessive, though. Overall: two solid stars. Cheap food for almost cheap.

I absolutely LOVE their burgers. I'm a guy who doesn't typically use condiments (hate mayo), so quality meat and exceptional seasonings are a must in my world. Well, Burger Works hits the nail on the head. Their burgers are quite possibly. The best I've ever had, and I've had a lot. Their buns are toasted and fluffy. Anyone who doesn't like these burgers on here are probably people who think Burger King or McDonald's are the gold standard. In order to appreciate how great these burgers taste, you have to actually like great tasting food. I eat here every time I want a burger. I had smash burger yesterday, and compared to burger works, they were bland and flavorless. Anyone wanting a truly amazing burger needs to go to Burger Works. I love their Rajin Cajon burger (fried jalapeños and franks red hot), or just their Colorado burger without ranch (bacon cheeseburger with guac SMS cheddar cheese). Try them, you can thank me later!

NEGATIVE 5 STARS!!! Let me start by saying that when this place opened, my wife and I went there and it immediately became our new favorite restaurant. At this time both would've given it 5 starts. We continued to eat there once a week for the next couple months. The food slowly went downhill. The service became crappy, they started using cheaper buns (and who knows what else...), and it took longer to get our food. Our last couple of attempts to eat there were just plain BAD. One time they screwed up our order, so to be nice the manager offered us a free desert. We were pleased with this. The next time we went there, they undercooked both of our burgers. When my wife went to complain, the manager accused her of trying to get a FREEBIE!!! Seriously! After they served us two RARE burgers. It will take a hulluva lot of management change to ever even think about eating there again!!! YOU SUCK!

Now I know why the Elephant Bar parking lot was full and Champa's had only a handful. Burgers were cooked to death, pressed and crispy black. Yuck! Service was lackluster. I thought by taking the cute table sign/number after ordering and paying, they would deliver the food to our table. Nope. You had to pick up your food and return the number to them. Service was incredibly slow even though they yelled our order to kitchen as we gave it to them. McDonald's would have been better, their burgers at least still have some moisture in them. On the plus side, the onion rings were very good. But they could have used a tangier sauce than the ranch dressing hidden on the tray. We had lunch on Tuesday 1/24/12

I won't go back. The place was so dirty -- deep down dirt. Everything I touched (chairs, table, bar) was sticky. Burger and sweet potato fries were fine, but I was creeped out by the dirt. There was something on the floor about 6" long, but unidentifiable. While I was there (30-minutes), no one cleaned anything. Why give you a number flag if they are not going to deliver your food. $11, deep dirt, no service. Fail!

We go to Champa St Burger Works on Weds for $1 bottles of beer. The burgers are fantastic! I always get the Colorado Burger with bacon and guac. The only thing is that the hand cut fries are little to be desired. The sweet potato fries are better, but upgrading is expensive. I no longer get any fries period when I go there, but they do have an ice cream machine and for another dollar I can get a small dessert after my meal.

if i could give it no stars i would ! I live in BelMar and was so excited when champa opened, cuz we could walk there. We tried it, it was great ! Then I do not know what happened..We ate there on a saturday night in august. First they forgot our order..no problem..OMG when we got our order it was the WORST burger I have ever eaten, dry and over cooked on a gross bun. My husband had the turkey burger and it was just as bad. Not sure what happened, if it is poor training, quality gone ! I will never eat there again, and at this rate it will not make it. Everyone i referred here I have told along with others. Why spend 20.00 for 2 hamburgers and drink and not be able to eat it?

  • Bryan M.

Hmmm. Not great... not even exceptionlally good. Burgers were somewhat flavorless as were the french fries and onion rings. Would I go back? Probably not. Oven-fired pizza sounds better.

    (2)
  • Steve B.

yeah - well once was enough. 1. Concept not new - Burgers , home fries, onion rings that looked like from the frozen bag variety. 2. You place your order and are handed a number. Cool I think they will bring it to me like Smash burger or Fat burger or Tokoyo Joes -- wrong, they just yell it out and you go get it. -- Ya handed me a big ass number for what? 3. Well it was okay - but nothing to write home about , but apparently enough to write on yelp. Not a good representation, maybe I will try another location, maybe not.

Tried it once, got take out. The burgers were hot & fresh + fries were good. Nothing that special though. I watched as the place was being remodeled to open & honestly expected more. Not bad, just pricey for mediocre food.

  • Sonia A.

The turkey burger was just ok, nothing special about it; without a drink and with the upcharge on sweet potato fries I spent a little more than $11, which I thought was a little insane. I could go to Smashburger or H burger. The manager/owner bragged to us that his fries were so good they didn't need any sauce, but I will respectfully totally disagree. I tried the regular fries and the sweet potato fries and they're fine and clean (meaning probably not any sugar coating, etc), but that's it. I didnt understand the 'you can get jalepenos on your burger or put some on yourself over there'. Why am I paying $11 to put condiments on my own burger? I got a friends' burger combo (buffalo) as a gift and that set me back more than $13 and his drink was MILK! I'm all for local business, but since this place is already working off of Smashburger's price list, they may want to go ahead and take another page out of the playbook and get some sauce as an option for those fries. I'm sure there will be an upcharge. Otherwise, it's an ok little place, but I'd never just stop in to grab a burger; it's too pricey for that. I gave the two stars for the following: 1) For not having any table service], (pick up your own burger) 2)having to put my own condiments on 3)for having to 'add fries' (upcharge), and 4)having to bus my own table, I think they could afford to knock a dollar off here and there. It's genius though; the customer does all the work! I can't imagine the price if we'd had a couple of drinks, too!
