Wow. This place doesn't live up to the hype, it IS the hype. Awesome food, great, friendly service, and a cool vibe. They should be proud. Put this place on diners, drive-ins, and dives. Amazing.

Stopped here on the way out of Denver and glad we did. Good food and friendly staff. The turkey Santa Fe sandwich with green chiles was delicious. If I lived nearby I'd come here all the time.

This place is quality old school breakfast. Portions are large and the food is served nice and hot. I had the Country Carnation skilllet, hash browns topped with biscuits and gravy, bacon sausage and 2 eggs. Next time I will try to breakfast burrito supreme since that's what the table next to me was having and they looked amazing. Will definitely be back

Not sure what stands out more? The food & the service are top-notch. Hospitality is in no short supply and it is felt the moment you walk in the door. Aubrey was our server today. She had a great attitude and made us traveler's feel like we were right at home. The other server on duty was Lucy..she was awesome to chat too. I can't wait til I return to Denver..& Carnation!

I used to love this place. It had ok food and wasn't that expensive, and maybe the best part, great service. Then the management changed. The food got expensive but not better, and the service got a lot worse. I understand that servers have it rough, but what finally did it for me was watching them basically cuss out my mom and throw her out forever because she asked if she could have her food cooked properly. It wasn't just that it wasn't cooked to order, it was undercooked. The owner himself told her never to come back. There is a base level of customer service that one should be able to expect at a restaurant. My mom wasn't rude, she just didn't want to get sick eating raw eggs. I would suggest maybe finding another place for breakfast, or only going here when they don't have anybody else there- maybe they won't be so overwhelmed.

My husband and I decided to try this place out based on a few great reviews. We ordered take out about an hour before they closed. Our order consisted of a couple chicken tacos, a ground beef burrito and the breakfast burrito supreme. We've been on the hunt for a good Mexican joint in the Lakewood area for quite a while now and haven't had any luck - this was no different. The chicken tacos were bland and had no seasoning - the most overpowering taste in the taco were the corn tortillas, which I wasn't even aware they had as the tortillas looked like flour. My husband ate the ground beef burrito and was just as disappointed, telling me that there was absolutely NO seasoning in the beef. Honestly, I think Taco Bell has more flavor - and they would have been MUCH cheaper. The Breakfast Burrito supreme wasn't bad. It also tasted like it had minimal flavor. I wound up adding ketchup to the meal to get some more taste out of it. Now I'm not sure if this was just an off night, or they don't try as hard when you're getting it to go, or they just have the "left-over" stuff for the last hour ... but, unfortunately, my husband and I will not be back again to test that theory out.

I always avoid diners, nothing about my perceived bland atmospheres they offer will ever lure me in. But, I agreed it was time for my boyfriend to pick and this was his choice. I ordered their Cubano and green chili cheese fries (for breakfast - to which the staff was entertained by considering the time of day) and it was great! Definitely not a place I'd eat at if I was looking for healthy alternatives, but for a diner this is a great place to go!

  • Crystal C.

You get a ton of food for the price point. Super friendly and speedy service. Ordered the Machaka which is a "favorite" of the restaurant. I thought it was ok but not blown away. Definitely felt like I needed to hit the gym after this huge breakfast!

Yes it's true. It's all that you could ask for if you are looking for a diner with great tasting food , great service and an exceptional value.

I just want to say that I have had many positive experiences here over the last couple of years and, since I had complained in the past, I figure I owe them a compliment. The owners clearly work very hard to make this a nice place to eat and it shows.

Fantastic breakfast. ..sperry friendly staff and ginormous portions. Definitely try the skillets, breakfast burrito and the pancakes.

This place was super busy! We went on a Saturday morning around 10 am. Our service was top notch! The food was great. I had a southwestern veggie skillet with a side of green chili. My husband had the supreme breakfast burrito. The owner cane over and introduced himself. He's really friendly and welcoming (and funny). Would I go again? Yes! Would I recommend it to a friend? Absolutely! Can't wait to go back and try lunch or dinner!

Today I brought my son in for a bite to eat at a place I hadnt been to in forever. The hostess was very pleasant and we were seated within 15 minutes. I ordered the country steak skillet with green chiles ( honestly forgot the name). It was delicious and filling. My son had the blueberry cakes which he loved.the portion was rediculously huge and he has something to snack on later. Overall my visit was pleasant and the food was very good. Danny the owner should be proud of his staff as they are some of the friendliest diner staff in Denver. Believe me I have been searching the whole city. Give this place a shot if you are in the mood for some All American grease spoon dining.

  • Matt V.

Had the breakfast burrito smothered. It was good and I was looking for a quick meal. I love that they do the smashed potatoes instead of hash browns. The green chili was really good too. Overall, it was good. They staff seemed nice. The place moves traffic well. I would go back if I was in the area.

We had just got done running some errands and were coming up Wadsworth when this place came up on the yelp app with great reviews, so we pulled in and as you walk in you notice the interior of the building is not the most modern looking but don't let that detour you back out the door. Also you can tell they are supporters of our local sports! The service was top notch and I might go as far to say it was some of the best service I have ever had! The entire staff was in tune with each other with making sure we had everything we could need or want. Even the owner as you read in many reviews is very involved and even chased us outside when we forgot our to go box. Now for the food, the portions are very hearty, it comes out hot and not heat lamp hot fresh hot! I had the Breakfast burrito and a side of biscuits and sausage gravy, the gravy was delicious and the biscuits were fluffy. The misses had the steak and eggs with the country potato's. Also very impressive the steak was not dry like a lot of breakfast places can do. This place lives up to the promise of the reviews and I would Highly recommend it!

Amazing food, great prices and very friendly service. Having driven by this place for years, I was long overdue to give it a try. We had the breakfast burrito supreme and the California Benedict. The burrito was generously stuffed with all the breakfast meats you could want along with a solid helping of hash browns and smothered with a delicious green chili. The California Benedict was like sex in your mouth... a true foodgasm. Our server, Cassandra, was helpful, accommodating and very friendly. We'll definitely be back!

  • Gre B.

A great surprise. For some reason, I thought this was only a Mexican place. It is a clean, super friendly, spot with very well prepared food. Fresh, and hearty portion. I was imressed by this neighborhood eatery and will be returning with my family to sample the expansive menu. Great job!

    (5)
  • Robert S.

Has the machaka and it was tasty but not as spicy as I expected when they said "has jalapeños in it." I have had machaka that had some type of chili pepper and def supposed to have a kick, this one did not. Beyond that I'd recommend it. Busy place. Little afraid of touching plates or anything this one server handled bc one of the servers had a wrapped hand and could see dried blood that probably at one point dripped down her arm earlier that morning. Problem is she hasn't noticed and who knows how much her arm/hand has touched??? Talk about blood Bourne and bacteria issues.

  • Matt B.

Very friendly staff, everyone there helped at our table. So many menu choices we will have to return to try more great food. Worth the 155 block drive down Wadsworth. Cuban sandwich for me and fried chicken for my wife both for a reasonable price.

  • Scott M.

Yes, yes, and yes! Fundamentaly the best breakfast I have had in the Mile High. Love pours out of everything laid before you. The Machka is DUMB good. Staff is freindly and on point. Never had an empty cup of Joe or ice tea. Wow, wow, wow.

    (5)
  • Heather D.

This is the best diner we have ever eaten at. The hash browns are fresh, the gravy is great and the service is out of this world. If you are looking for a great local restaurant, this is it!

  • Robb C.

I went here for breakfast today with my niece. We ordered the Denver omelet and the breakfast burrito special. Our food was delicious and the service could not be better. I must have been offered a coffee refill at least 25 times, it became a joke between my niece and I. I'll definitely return.

  • Jessica L.

This place is like many diners, small, busy, and dingy looking. But the owners were really nice and seemed friendly and like they actually enjoyed their jobs. We ordered the sausage biscuits and gravy and the breakfast burrito supreme. All under $20 with tip! The b&g was amazing, one of the best I've had! Biscuits, sausage, gravy and all. The burrito was huge! I only tasted a couple bites of it but it was delicious. The green chile was the perfect amount of spicy ( which wasn't too spicy). I would definitely come back, especially since I live right down the street.

  • Grace G.

This restaurant is one of the most amazingly delicious places to get breakfast burritos! They're normally pretty packed on the weekends, but the wait is minimal (I think we waited about 20 minutes for 5 of us at brunch time on a Sunday) and the service is always on point! Danny, the owner, has been there practically every time we've visited so you can tell he cares how his restaurant is doing and wants to make sure every thing is running smoothly. Going to be sad when we move away from Lakewood, might have to make special drives just to eat here! If you're in the area, definitely check them out!! :)

    (5)
  • Crystal P.

Man this place is a machine! They moved people in and out of here! We both had the chile rellenos and they were pretty good! A ton of food, we could have easily split but it was still pretty good the next morning!

    (4)
  • Katie S.

This place rules. It's tiny, it's divey, the waitresses are charming, and your coffee cup is always full. It's everything I want in a diner. The food is great. I recommend getting anything with green chile on it--especially the chile relleno skillet. So. Damn. Delicious. I swear every time I come here my entire family orders some form of chile relleno because they are amazing here. I just can't think of a place I'd rather go for breakfast. The breakfast quesadilla is wonderful. The standard breakfast items are great, too. I've never been here for lunch or dinner, so I'm curious to try some of their other food. I'm certain it's wonderful. Do not let the exterior scare you away from this place! Go in and enjoy the amazing food!

    (5)
  • Kristen W.

HUGE portions, great prices! Come hungry!!! I left feeling stuffed to the gills having eaten the equivalent of a bag of potatoes in my huevos rancheros but hey, it was tasty and left me full for the entire day!

  • Roxanne M.

Yum! Went for the first time this morning. Staff friendly, place is clean and the food is great. The homemade corned beef hash is legit! Good price for the massive amounts of food. Husband and I will definitely be back. Now I need a nap, food coma has set in...

  • Strange P.

I love this place!! Everyone here is so positive, cheery and fun. Ton's of smiles. I'm convinced the food is cooked with love and the green chili is amazing. Machaka is the real deal, prepare to be pleasantly plump.

    (5)
  • Mark M.

My lady and I enjoy eating here, the food is pretty good, the service is great. You could do a lot worse than this joint, if you need a good meal and don't want to spend more than an hour this a good start.

  • Patty L.

So if you like a lot of good food, for not a lot of money....this is the place to go!!! Amazed at the size of these dishes. I had a grilled turkey sandwich, with grilled tomatoes, mushrooms & swiss cheese. The turkey were nice thick pieces. It was sooooo good. A dinner salad is a choice for a side. At most places you have to pay extra for side salad. The salad did come with a lot of dressing, so you may want to get the dressing on the side. My husband had the Carnation Country, hasbrowns covered with biscuits, gravy, sausage, bacon & 2 eggs. They serve breakfast all day:) Our friend had the carnatis burrito special of the day. It was stuffed with beans, rice & nice chunks of pork. This burrito could feed at least 2 people:) Serve was great. They are spot on when it comes to filling up your coffee cup. Don't think my husbands cup was ever less than half full. Can't wait to go back.

A total dive from the outside--we weren't even sure we were in the right spot, but amazing! My friend had called ahead to snag us a table (thank God she did) because it was hopping at 8am on a Saturday morning! The service was awesome, the food was one of the best meals we have had in Denver this visit! Hubby and friend had the Machaka, and I had the smothered burrito with steak, and friend's hubby had eggs and bacon. Baby had dollar pancakes which were huge!!! The coffee cup was always full, the waters were, too. An awesome diner, totally what we had in mind even though we hadn't expected it!!!

  • Kevin L.

I went here last Sunday afternoon after seeing some good reviews on yelp. My mistake, I will NEVER go back. One of the server had to set her plates down on the counter because it was too hot and burning her hand. The owner (I assume) came over and screamed at her and made a scene and was not at the least concerned about her well being or her burnt arm. WHAT A JERK! His behavior was over the top, inexcusable and condescending. This is not the only time I have witnessed this behavior. I would highly recommend ignoring this place. Oh and forgot to mention the food was not that great either.

  • Ashley H.

A true diamond in the rough....literally!! I used to think this was an old car parts store and passed it many times until one day we had a friend in town and wanted some delicious breakfast grub. We found carnation on Yelp and knew we couldn't pass this up with the raving reviews. It owned up to every single positive review and MORE! Seriously, if I could give this place 10 stars, I would. The service is so prompt and fast, I almost couldn't drink my coffee because I had a refill after every couple sips and it stayed so hot. The food is every bit as amazing as the price. This place has some seriously good customer service. The owner, Danny, came over to our table and we had a wonderful conversation with him. His passion for his customers and what he does was so admirable. I just can't get over what a great experience we had at this local breakfast joint that reminded me of hitting the diner in the morning with my dad growing up. I will be back countless times. PS The country fried steak is amazing, and the skillets are amazing, and the green chili is amazing....heck, it's ALL amazing!!

  • Marq T.

If you want an authentic diner experience, then here's your place. The chicken fried steak was as I expected and seasoned mildly. I loved the fresh hash browns and my eggs were delivered spot-on. We also ordered a breakfast burrito that was very favorable and packed the right amount of spice for breakfast time. The tortilla was stuffed with fresh ingredients and very tasty. We found the best feature of the restaurant to be the staff. They were friendly, attentive and no nonsense. It is no wonder that the joint was full of returning regulars.

  • Sam F.

Had a great sunday brunch here with a visiting family member. Busy, but short wait. Corned beef hash was as advertised - super salty though, so get an order of green chili/gravy on the side to soften the edges out. Service was diner-quick, clientele was eclectic, great option for this area.

    (4)
  • Angel O.

The friendliest staff ever! One of the best in town. Pancakes and Benedicts are out of this world. It's one of those places where they remember you, sit down with cute little old ladies and say thank you on your way out. Fast service to top it all off. Go!!

    (5)
  • Kyle N.

Awesome ownership, food and service. Anything on the menu is awesome. Get anything with green chili and the breakfast skillets (not on the menu) are amazing. I come here at least once a week.

    (5)
  • Anthony C.

Impressed with reviews so thought I'd try it out. Being in the food service industry, I try to be aware of how places operate to gain knowledge and find ideas to help my business run more smoothly. Sat at counter because the place was crazy busy. Good sign. After my order was taken, I continued to watch the staff use a dirty towel to wipe off dirty tables, put their dirty tips in their pockets, pick up dirty plates and then make and butter everyone's toast. No hand washing. No tongs. Really. Not acceptable by my standards or health dept standards. Sorry. Not my kinda place.

    (1)
  • Teema C.

Tasty breakfast with lots of options and you get it quick! Walked in around 10:30am on a Saturday and the place was packed but we only had about a 10 minute wait. Our server was so friendly, nice, and prompt - excellent service! My coffee cup never went empty and my hubby and my orders were delicious! I got the hungry man plate and hubby got the machaka - both were delicious! I didn't enjoy my sausage and ham as much as the bacon, but the order was still great. We eyed others' plates on neighboring tables, and everything looked so good - especially the smothered burrito! We will be back!

  • L R.

The hubby & I finally found our go-to diner! We had a great experience here today -- we were seated quickly, the service was great from beginning to end, and everything was so delicious! Everyone here is so friendly -- we met the owner who was so friendly and made an effort to get to know us and talk with us. We felt right at home! We'll definitely be back. Note - their Belgium waffles can only be ordered until 11am!

  • Matt E.

Great place. Like others mentioned, it is a dive and very unassuming from the outside. I had driven by many times without even recognizing that it was a restaurant. After reading the overwhelmingly positives reviews, I decided to give it a try. The staff is amazing, always stopping by to see how the food is, if you need refills, etc. - very on top of things. The owner (Danny) is also very involved, stopping by each table to say greet guests. This place has tons of regulars and the owner and staff greet them all by name, which I can appreciate. I've been here several times now and tried different items each time and have been happy with everything. If you are looking for some good food, great service and a very laid back experience, this place would be highly recommended.

Had the Cuban today and threw the cole slaw on top. Amazing sandwich. It's only in on certain weeks, but we'll worth the visit Mike D

Awesome place! Slammed on Saturday morning but the food and service was top notch!!! Good attentive wait staff. We got seated after 15 \20 minutes but worth the wait. This might be my go to breakfast place on Wads. Loved it!

Visited for the first time today and glad we did. All the clichés for a diner are appropriate...greasy spoon, whole in the wall, neighbor hood meeting place. Service was excellent, fast and friendly. True to form, the owner, Danny and his wife, made it a point to connect with just about all their patrons. Good food and lots of it for a fair price. I am a corned beef hash junky and Carnation's didn't disappoint; they didn't try to doll it up too much....just chunks and shreds of corned beef, hash browns, and onions (even asked if onions were ok when I placed the order!). Wife had the standard fare of poached eggs, bacon and pancakes; bacon was cooked nicely. My son had the chicken fried steak; he can EAT and couldn't finish his portion. Overall, great visit...we'll be back.

  • Colleen M.

I am not sure I want to give this place 5 stars for fear EVERYONE will end up there... I don't want my friends to ever have trouble getting into this place. On a recent trip to Denver to visit close friends for GABF all I hear about is Carnation. "Let's go to Carnation for breakfast" he says. "Can we go to carnation TODAY?" he asks. "How about today?" he pleads. Finally, on my last morning we ask him... "can we go to Carnation today?" His face lit up like Christmas morning and now I know why. This place is a diner of the "greasy spoon" variety - the best kind of diner says this lifelong Jersey girl. The food is heavy, the portions are HUGE, the price is cheap and the service is bad@ss. And the food came out so quickly I thought it might be the wrong order! Perfect pre-flight-I-cant-afford-airport-food-and-I-have-a-2-hour-layover food. Hangover cure for sure. Don't change a thing!

Went here by myself for a delicious breakfast! Loved it. Sat at the counter and enjoyed every bite if my meal. Ground beef sautéed with mushroom and onion, smothered in cheddar, served with eggs and potatoes. Amazing.

  • Carrie B.

The hot cake game here is outta control. Just a little sweet and a touch crunchy on the outside. The wait staff is the perfect fusion of friendliness and efficiency. Best seat in the house is at the counter so you can watch the magic happen!

Amazing food at great prices and the service is even better. The food is always perfect and very delicious. I have my eggs cooked special and they always get it right. The staff is extremely friendly and fun to talk to. The owner, Danny, is always there and gets to know everyone. He looks very happy in his restaurant and he should be. He has a lot to be proud of. I recently tried the green chile and it is phenomenal. Looks like I'm ordering from the mexican food portion of the menu and giving the breakfast a break, which I'll miss.

Supreme breakfast burrito and eggs Benedict were awesome. Fast friendly service small and quaint. Good like it came from grandmas kitchen. Will definately be back!!!

Danny's is great, the menu is your typical diner fair, good food, great portions, and beyond that, Danny welcomes ideas for nightly specials, he'll make just about anything you'd like if he can. He goes above and beyond to make you feel like family and give you exceptional service. Not to be discounted, the waitresses are amazing, they are on the spot, funny, and really make the restaurant a place you look forward to returning to. It's a fav for sure.

Love this place. Me and my better half come here about once a week for breakfast. The pancake is perfect and not many places have bacon, eggs and pancake on the menu together! Green chili is good too so is the coffee. If you are looking for fancy brunch this isn't your place but good ol diner breakfast this is the best! Staff is so friendly and service is quick!

I brought my out-of-town family here for breakfast and they thoroughly enjoyed it. They said it was the best chicken-fried steak they ever had (and they're hard to impress). The waitress was also very nice and brought us everything we needed--from extra plates, to sugar free syrup, to a cup of coffee at the last minute. Fantastic!

    (5)
  • Kirk H.

Great service. Danny the owner came by our table and introduced himself recognizing we were new to his restaurant. He then didn't hesitate to get a sample of his green chile for us to taste. Coming from New Mexico we have high standard for green chile. Although, his was mild the flavor was great. He the brought us some red and green salsa to add to the chile for spice without us asking. He aims to please.

The staff is always nice, and they really hustle. Food is always good and fresh. Homemade green chili is great, and breakfast is second to none.

    (5)
  • Susan H.

Thought I would give it a try after all the glowing reviews. I wasn't all that impressed. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing (Mexican) but it was yucky. The green chili seemed like they had washed a bowl that had green chili on it, then took the dishwater and thickened it with a ton of cornstarch and served it up. The boy's burger was mediocre too. Perhaps their American dishes are better. I doubt I'll go back to find out. When I have Davey's right down the street, with better atmosphere and food. The service was good though, no fault there.

Been coming here for over a decade! This is, hands down the best breakfast joint around. Best and fastest breakfasts, nicest staff. They are great with kids. Congratulations on the remodel, guys! Keep up the great work.

  • Leslie N.

Great service, friendly staff, amazing chicken fried steak--something that I definitely think about regularly, now! This place has a homy feel, and reminded me of Indiana where I am from. The only thing I am not a fan of, I suppose, is the syrup in bottles at the tables. I wish things like french toast or pancakes came out of the kitchen with hot syrup as opposed to the way it is set up now. The staff is very quick to fill up your coffee cup, gotta love that! I'll definitely go back for that chicken fried steak.

Great food and personable service. I usually go there for breakfast but I had dinner there tonight I had the chicken parmesan which was cooked and spiced perfectly great Italian food for not being an Italian restaurant

  • Cathy J.

Other than the waitstaff being very kind and personable, there is nothing special about this place. Over salted diner food in a "hurry up, eat and get out" atmosphere. The owner/manager as much as said that to my two friends and me when we were there for lunch one Monday. "You're lucky you could sit at that table so long. We are usually busier than this". Well, no wonder your trade has suffered a hit with an unwelcoming attitude like that!

    (2)
  • John F.

This is quickly becoming our go-to place for comfort food. We've enjoyed every meal we've had, and the service is friendly and prompT. Getting to it (at the SW corner of 14th and Wadsworth) is a little challenging if you are traveling north on Wadsworth. It's worth it, however. They just need to clean their many aquariums, but that's a minor point.

  • Tres B.

Very solid breakfast with incredibly attentive service. My coffee never got low. I had the classic Denver omellete, perfectly prepared. The potatoes we not as hot as I would like, but they were very tasty. My wife had the steak and eggs and the portion was excellent, the quality above average. Lastly, the outside looks like a boring Butler building, metal and meh. BUT the inside has a diner charm thats really nice

  • Tammy B.

I love this place. I was born and raised in Colorado, currently live in California. Every time I come to town to see my family I MUST EAT HERE. Danny the owner is a great guy and every since he took over the restaurant it has become top notch. Before I go to the airport I always stop in for a breakfast burrito supreme. The best you'll ever have.

Excellent service and food. We were seated and greeted by the owner who is very friendly. Service was very quick even though it was busy, and the food was great and fresh. Everyone in our party was happy and sent along with a full belly.

I have found my new favorite breakfast spot. I tried the Machaka per the reviews suggestions and it did not disappoint! Full of flavor and just the right amount of spice. Danny (I assume an owner) came up and asked me how the food was and thanked me for coming in. Awesome food, friendly staff and quick service will definitely bring me back!

Great breakfast spot! Food is always good and the waitresses are very attentive. Try the California Benedict or the corned beef hash!

This place is perfect. Great food, incredible staff, and an overall great experience. The food is delicious and at a very reasonable price. All they need to do now is add delivery so I can have breakfast in bed! Go to Carnation and you can thank me later!

Found this place with the help of Yelp. Great little diner. Ate breakfast, the 2 x 2 x 2. It was excellent. Bacon was great, pancakes tasted awesome, eggs and hashbrown casserole also good. Thumbs up.

DELICIOUS breakfast and AMAZING service! We would agree that it was some of the best service we've ever had. The Machaka was great and the pancakes, and corned beef hash were delicious too! We will be back for sure ... and it's an hour drive for us

Great food great service! Dinning room is a little boring but who cares because the food is great. I had the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy. My sisters both had patty melt and fries. We also ordered the onion ring appetizer "they're beer battered" the best I've ever had! The chicken fried steak was a good portion as were the potatoes great old style dinner food. Didn't try the patty melt but my sisters loved them! The waitresses and staff were all very nice and attentive. They kept our glasses full. Nice little dinner. I'll be back!

Good greasy spoon eats at awesome prices. When we got there we were told the wait would be 10 minutes, it was actually more like 10 seconds until we were seated. The staff and manager were extremely nice and attentive. I will eat there again.

This place is absolutely incredible. The food was awesome, and the service was top notch. Everyone here was super friendly. By far better than almost any 'dive' type of diner I've been to. My fiancé and I cannot say enough good things about this place. We live about 20 minutes from this restaurant, but we've both agreed that it is well worth the drive. Do yourself a favor, and check this place out. My fiancé and I both ended up ordering some delicious Mexican dishes, and with nearly 150 menu items, there's something for everybody! Enjoy!

A friendly staff, small and cozy. The corn beef n hash is fresh and so full of flavor I won't get it any where else. I am a sucker for the fried pickles too a lil spicy and so good I have had them many other places and none compare. Other must try's include the Greek and carnation omelets the chimmy changa enchilada style ( with red enchilada sauce ) and you can't beat the five dollar steak and eggs mon-fri. Love this place

Very friendly wait statf with friendly, hands-on owner. French toast, biscuits and sausage gravy, waffles, bacon, sausage all excellent! Pancakes were ok. Today was our first time in - they were very busy and yet still very friendly and fast. We will definitely be back!

Went here for breakfast due to the high yelp reviews and my husband and I were both disappointed. I was craving a Belgium waffle, so that is what I got and it was just ok. No real flavor to the waffle. I can make one better at home. They don't have real maple syrup, so I had to go with the high fructose corn syrup, which made me feel very sick for hours after we left. My husband got the breakfast burrito, which was pretty bland and mostly plain shredded hash browns (tasted a lot of salt but no other seasoning inside the burrito). The salsa on the burrito had a little heat to it, which we like but it was still pretty bland other than the heat. Needless to say, we both would not recommend this place and won't be making it back. At least the prices were reasonable, so besides my hurting stomach, we didn't feel that bad for trying a new place. Also, the staff were nice.

This place was amazing! Great food, incredible service! I ordered the Greek omelet but didn't realize gyros was meat. It was a mistake on my part and when I told the server she was more than happy to have the kitchen remake me an omelet without meat! It was such a good experience we will go back often!

My girlfriend and I gave the Carnation a try on a Saturday morning. We were immediately seated and our drinks arrived promptly. The service throughout our visit was great; our drinks were always full and the staff was friendly and attentive. I had the chile relleno skillet, which was quite good despite the mediocre green chili. A solid three stars for that dish. Maybe even four if they served coca-cola products, maybe not when you factor in the overcooked hot cakes that were served with margarine instead of butter. However, my girlfriend tried the hungry man breakfast and that's when things went very wrong. Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage link, ham, biscuits and gravy. It sounded good but in reality it was a cautionary tale about poor quality and incompetence. The eggs were cooked into a solid rubbery mass. The bacon was almost black. The biscuits, which were very thin, were coated in a thick gelatinous goo that vaguely tasted like, well, nothing. Even the ham was unappealing due to it likely having been cut off of a loaf of some sort. The sausage link tasted more like grease than anything else. Seriously, how do you mess up something as simple as bacon and eggs?

  • Jenny C.

My family and I stopped in on a busy Saturday morning. Although the parking lot was packed, we were able to sit right down. Our drink order was taken right away, but it took a while for our food order to be taken. it is understandable, since they were obviously busy and no one was standing idly by. They have servers who come around regularly to fill up coffee and water, which is nice. The food was pretty good and the vibe is nice overall. My kids enjoyed looking at the massive fish tanks by the front. It's nice that they're there and you don't notice them when you're not around them (they don't smell or make the air humid). We will definitely come back.

There are lots of mom and pop neighborhood restaurants and this is a good one. Don't know how long they've been in business, but it has been a long time and they definitely have a winning "recipe." Service is the bottom line at Carnation. You have a designated waitperson, but it's hard to tell because every time anyone walks by with coffee they fill your cup - it's obvious that their model is that everyone serves everyone. They also look to be pretty staff top-heavy when you start to count the number of staff in an at most moderately sized dining room, but that again seems to speak to their "service is the bottom line" mantra. Staff are not only attentive but fun - range from personable to (appropriately) "saucy" and know the regulars by name. Food quality? Good, not great, but honestly, how would you make fried eggs, sausage patties, hashbrowns and pancakes truly great? On the other hand, $6.95 for my breakfast was a pretty great price. When you want good diner fare, good value and great service from a fun waitstaff, Carnation is an excellent choice.

Much can be said about the food. Carnations does serve large portions but there are other places that serve just as good when it comes to flavor. Other people have stated (it appears at least two were by the same person) that Danny is a great person. They obviously have not been eating there when he has one of his major butt chewings session of an employee in the midst of the entire dinning area full of customers. I have even seen customers turn in their seat to see what was going on.This is NOT just a chewing out (which has no place in front of customers to begin with) and it is over with but goes on and on. He will even continue to other areas repeating again and again the same problem. He might go to the kitchen only to emerge again and start all over again. Eventually, the two will disappear out of sight leaving customers to glance at one another with very uncomfortable looks on their faces. I eat there several times a week and in the past 3 weeks he has ruined two of my dinners with this action. If the employee is this bad then get rid of them but no one should be spoken to this way. Remember if an employee fails so does the person responsible for their failure.

Carnation is a great spot to catch a breakfast with friends and/or family. It is not a huge restaurant, but it does have more seats than I would have guessed when looking at the exterior. I went to breakfast on a Saturday morning and we were immediately given a table (although they were really pretty busy). They've got a great menu, although there is not much unusual about it. I had the chile rellenos and eggs breakfast special (more food than I could eat in one sitting) which only cost about $7.00. The food was delicious, the coffee was plentiful, and the service was really top notch. This restaurant really seems to have a good system in place, and all of the servers seemed very willing to help each other out as needed. N.B. Although I did not have it myself, more than one person, on separate occasions, told me that the steak and eggs is one of the best in town.

Down-home goodness. EAT THE BISCUITS & GRAVY!! Yes, this place is an old-school diner that looks pretty , well, "homey" would be a nice way to say it... but it is DELICIOUS and they give you a ton of food for a good price. The busser will seat you, his name is Victor. He's cool. The waitresses are on the ball, friendly, (no bitchiness! awesome!), and overall make you feel at home right away. I had the Supreme Omelet because it basically has everything loaded in there, and for some reason opted for the biscuits and gravy instead of toast. Holy-mama, I'm glad I did. THem biscuits and gravy were GOOD. The biscuit was swimming in white gravy, and they were soft and comforting. I'm from South Carolina and I've had fresh off the farm b&g and these could actually stand up with Southern cooking. My coffee was never lukewarm, I got so many top-offs and warm-ups. Thanks for an excellent comfort breakfast!

This diner is fantastic! Two things really stand out at this place: the service and the food. The servers have great attitudes and are constantly refilling your drinks. The food is so good. I ordered a burrito special with a jalapeno verde sauce that was delicious. Highly recommend this place and will be back often.

Thank God for this place as it has the ability to turn the morning after too many Knob Creek Manhattans into a good one. I always order the same thing as the Chicken Fried Steak is yummy AND comes with biscuits and gravy on the side....on a separate plate...like 2 breakfasts in 1. The place is always full but the manager (or owner?) is always there running around moving people through quickly and we never have to wait long. The food literally flys out of the kitchen so fast you can get in here, gulp down a cup of coffee, inhale a huge plate of food, and be out in 30. When I'm in the mood for a hangover cure and need one ASAP, I always head here.

My wife and I love this place. The owner Danny is always there to welcome us, say hey and see how we've been . The food is great and its a warm environment. The staff is always friendly and polite. Glad we found a nice place to become regulars at.

Excellent.... Just got the breakfast burrito smothered. So yummy. And lots of green chili on top. way better than Santiago's for the price. I got a menu and scanned it so everyone could see what delicious things they have to offer. mediafire.com/download/9…

To be honest I have only been here for breakfast. The biscuits and gravy are awesome. So is the breakfast burrito. I have never had anything that I thought was sub-par. But honestly breakfast is so easy to make that a good breakfast place can be summed up easily with good solid food and good service. And the Carnation doesn't fail in either of these. Ever. My coffee or water is never empty and the service is always solid and I never leave feeling disappointed. My Dad and I come every week in the middle of the week. The busser, Victor, always remembers what we have to drink and when my 3 year old is with us he always remembers what he wants also. The staff always acknowledges us and gives us a friendly "hello". It is clear that they appreciate us and our business which goes a long way in my mind when talking about a neighborhood breakfast diner. The food is fast and tasty, no matter what you order. The tables are always clean and well-stocked. The staff are friendly and beyond efficient. You really couldn't ask for more.

I am so glad this place is right next door to my office. Friendly staff, an involved owner and great food. They have big portions and they keep their prices low. I haven't ever made it in early enough but they have early bird breakfast specials too. They have great sandwiches and true diner style french fries. They have great salads and AWESOME Mexican food. We come here frequently as an office and everything has always been so good. We haven't ever had a bad dish or a bad experience here.

For a dirty little hole in the wall place, Carnation isn't bad. LOVE the small town diner feel, the servers are great. I had biscuits and gravy, they weren't bad, but they weren't my favorite. Chicken fried steak was de-lish!

Reasonable prices, tasty food, ample portions, friendly service, and constant coffee refills. The interior and exterior of the building are no-nonsense, so if you want to look at pretty stuff you are out of luck. Love this place!

We went here after searching for top rated breakfast here on yelp, and boy we were not disappointed! The staff is very friendly, we sat quickly and the food came out quickly. The food is fantastic!!! I'm sure so many drive past this place because it looks like an old establishment but those are always the best places! As i said, we got Breakfast and they give you so much food for you $$, We can't wait to go back for lunch and Dinner! They have a very good selection on their menu. I would recommend this place to everyone!

Carnation is everything a breakfast place should be: fantastic breakfast foods with big portions; super-friendly waitresses and owner; super-fast service; great morning ambiance and good coffee. The place is homey and bustling--I wouldn't call it divey. It has some nice quirky touches like gigantic fish in aquariums by the front door. The breakfast burrito and omelets were delicious. Best hash browns ever. Bacon perfectly done and flavorful. Sausage patties juicy and flavorful but not greasy at all. Pancakes fluffy and tasty. We were traveling and needed breakfast in the Lakewood area. Carnation was so good, two days later we went out of our way to go there again for breakfast on our way out of town.

Omg this place is a hidden gem! I saw this place for months I live about 5 blocks up from it but never really payed it much attention. The place is a little ghetto from the outside but the food is so amazing! I got the chile relleno skillet and was so delicious! My dad got the biscuits and gravy plate and the servings are so big too! A definite must go to place for everyone in the area! Service was great and the food superb! Way to go Danny's carnation restaurant !!!!!

Great comfort food. Friendly fast service. The owner is usually there walking around checking on people. Great variety in the menu. Just a smidge overpriced for what you get, but a must go for sure. Salad was fresh and crisp. Pork chops perfectly seasoned and cooked well. Breakfast foods cooked perfectly and surprisingly not greasy. --- A local small town diner in a big town.

I've passed this place so many times and never tried it. I'm glad I did! The service was GREAT! The manager/owner came out and talked to us. He offered us home made salsa which was so delicious! The food was amazing! I'd come back again for the food, but the service made it that much better! They are very decently priced as well.

I met a friend here for breakfast and was a little worried from the looks of the place from the outside when I parked - however my hesitation was out the door as soon as I walked in. The staff were friendly and the service great. Nothing too special about most of their food but they do have a few unique dishes. I had the chili relleno breaskfast skillet my first visit and it was great! Two chili rellenos covered in green chili with two eggs on top and two pancakes! The pancakes were a pleasant surprise as well - they have a little sweetness to them. I loved them with just a little butter - no syrup needed (which is fortunate since I am a syrup snob and only eat pure maple syrup which they do no have). Oveall, staff was great, food was tasty and prices are hard to beat!

Finally a 5-star review...from a greasy spoon? I just have to say that the price is right, the service is ALWAYS great and we have been several times just to check for consistency. Love it! Will return if/when I decide to have gluten and dairy again. Sigh.

this is the best greasy-spoon "without the grease" brunch around... The waitstaff is super great and the food is very good. I take all my friends here and they love it. Hands down the best biscuit's and gravy around. The green salsa is to die for... They have a-lot on their menu and I want to try everything.

Food-5 Service-4.5 I love Carnation. The price is right, the service is fast and the food is great. The chicken fried steak is amazing due to the gravy and the breading on the steak which seems to stay crispy for a very long time. The breakfast quesadilla is also very good.

This has been our go to diner for the last 8 years since moving to the city. During that time it has changed owners and some improvements have been made, but other things have gotten worse. Now the old owner lady, well... She wasn't the nicest most personable person in the world. However, her redeeming quality was her peach cake! Best cake I've had in the city!! Unfortunately she took her recipe with her. Danny, the new owner improved food quality and spruced up the place, but added a dollar to all the prices. Switched from homemade spanish rice to this gawd awful prepackaged nastiness. The old waitresses who sometimes might give you a lil attitude but knew their jobs, have all been replaced by young thin airheads that rather suck. The very best feature and only constant is Victor. After so many years we are cherished friends. He always asks about my health and our family, I make a point of eating there around Christmas so I can give him a big fat tip.

I was looking for REAL chicken fried steak; the kind that's hammered out and dredged in batter and panfried, not the dry pre-shaped patties 98% of restaurants now serve. Danny's Carnation is one of the few places in Denver metro where you can find it. And boy is it ever good. They have great specials, and while it's not gourmet, it is quality food, well prepared like what you'd cook in your own kitchen. Sauteed garden veggies, not canned stuff. Lumps of potato in the mashed potatoes for real flavor. Tender steaks. Homemade soups to die for. Just good food without a lot of fancy things to drive up the cost. And personal service. People who remember you after your second visit and bring your drinks to the table without your having to ask....one of those "where everyone knows your face" type places. I love the chile. anyone who says it's bad has gotten used to the garbage most restaurants in Denver churn out. They need to take a trip south to NM and get their tastebuds recalibrated to what's really good. (and what the heck is the complaint about WIFI about? this place doesn't have it and if it's so important to you that you can't eat dinner without it, why don't you quit being so cheap and get your own mobile hotspot? This forum is for reviewing the product they're selliing, not something they're not. Totally inappropriate complaint since Danny doesn't advertise having WIFI and never has provided it since I've been eating there.) I come to the Carnation to eat here weekly and don't see that habit breaking any time soon. When I ask about a specific item not on their regular menu, Danny will schedule it and let you know which day next week to come to get it. How many restaurants other than Restaurant Mom will do that? Thank heavens for locally owned businesses who provide quality products. Support your local business.

As far as finding a diner on this side of town - I would much rather go to Davies over Carnation. I wasn't impressed. Very blah food. The least a diner can offer is some good pancakes, and theirs were chewy, no good. B/f had some biscuits and gravy and wasn't impressed. The food seemed like it had sat for a bit before it was served. I did think the service was good - the manager was very nice.
