I turn 24 tomorrow and we were celebrating tonight. This is the first birthday away from my hometown and my mom. I didn't think about cake until the day of the celebration. All the other bakeries were very rude and acted as though I was insulting them by wanting a cake so quickly. Thankfully Cakes by Karen came through for me. She was very kind and gave me a few options of small, inexpensive cakes. I picked an 8" round not knowing what flavor it was or what it looked like. I couldn't be happier! It was decorated beautifully with flowers (which I love.) The flavor is white cake with Bavarian cream. IT WAS DELICIOUS and only cost $16! This is the best cake I've had since my wedding (which was a $600 cake.) Any time I have a need for cakes I will without doubt call Cakes by Karen, but I'll call in advance next time ;)

I got a cake for my daughters one year birthday party. I really wanted a cake from Cake Depot on Federal but their decorator was out of town (so unprofessional to just not be able to make cakes for a whole week, on the week of my baby girls birthday). Cakes by Karen is right across from my house. They offered me a tasting and they were decent so the convenience of location and the groupon led me to here. I emailed them a picture of the Minnie Mouse that I wanted on the cake, they did an OKAY job. The pink was super bright which was not as pictured. I ordered a half sheet strawberry cake with pineapple filling (an amazing combo) but they put waaaay too much filling in. I guess for the price of only about $50 (groupon was $15 for $30) for a pretty big cake, it was worth it.

Stopped by one day and grabbed half a dozen cupcakes to go for just a few dollars. There was WAY too much frosting (there was just as much frosting as there was actual cake!) but the cake part was rich and moist. I wanted to try a different flavor during my second visit, but they had run out of cupcakes! (You know it's got to be good if they run out of cupcakes before the end of the day!)

Stop! I would not give this place my business again. I ordered a birthday cake for my daughters 13 th birthday and it was not what I asked for, I was given a $20 credit for next time. I decided to give them another try, I called and asked about prices and how much time I need to give to place an order I was told 1 day a for cupcakes. I called back the next day the price was more, I did get the guys name and they said they would honor the price that he said but it would be $10 more for fondant, I agreed and placed the order, 10 mins. Later I got a call that they didn't have any red velvet cupcakes for the next day and it would be $20 for fondant when I tried to use my credit they couldn't find it and said it must have expired. I agreed to get another flavor and not to use fondant, when I went in to pick them up they tried to charge me $10 more when I explained what happened I was told ok then it's $6 more, she didn't want to honor The price I was told. They have poor Customer service !

I wanted a custom cake done for my sister's graduation and after all the reviews here and on Yelp, I was kind of hesitant to order a cake. Well after hours of searching for custom cake shops, this place was the only close one near my house, so I decided to go in and order my cake that I design. The workers were nice and since I provided a sketch of what I wanted, they said they could do it. I ordered a two tier cake, that could feed a party of 50. I believe the bottom was 10inch and the top was 6inch. This cake had sugar flowers, the schools logo, a name piped on and a graduation hat sitting on top (this cake looked like a wedding cake style). Well they charged me $195....lets just say that wasn't even the start of it. When I picked it up it looked good for a fast glance, the credit card machine was taking very slow so I got to analyze the cake. The piping on the name was HORRIBLE (shaky person whoever did it), the sugar flowers were not the color I wanted and it was just basic white flowers that did not look spectacular for the price I paid plus they just stabbed it in the cake, the graduation hat was not made from foundant like I like it to be..it was some dollar store plastic hat, and then the cake was like caving in so they tried to cover it with ribbon around it. Overall, the cake tasting itself wasn't great..I swear the Kingsoopers cake is better. I will not come back for another custom cake and refer others not to as well.

My wedding was last night and my cake was amazing and delicious!!! I recieved so many compliments on the cake!!! Thank you for great service and a perfect sweet-tasting touch on our wedding night :)

We have a cake made every year for the Rockies home opener game and Cakes by Karen always gives us total creative freedom and they never judge us when we ask for OUTRAGEOUS decor. They are talented, professional, and very creative. The cakes are always very moist and flavorful. You will not believe the cake and frosting flavors to chose from. Susan, the young lady we have delt with many times, always has great ideas and she really puts great effort into the masterpieces. We will always order from this great cake shop.

We had my daughter's 5th birthday party at Casa Bonita. Our package included a birthday cake. I was excited to see that when they brought the boxed cake out it was stamped with a Cakes by Karen logo. I had never heard of them, but thought it was pretty cool to get a cake from a local bakery instead of a box store. Now, we had brought a dozen Minnie Mouse themed cupcakes arranged in the shape of a 5 as more of a decorative center piece. (They were from Sedalia Bakery and looked and tasted great) Our server was slow to bring the cake out and the kids were anxious, so we ate the cupcakes and took the cake home. We decided to do cake and ice cream as a family after dinner. The frosting was good and not excessive, but the cake itself was simply terrible. It was dry, dense, and tasted horrible. It was so bad that my 5 and 6 year olds wouldn't even eat it. It tasted like a mix of rancid milk and freezer burn. It causes me to wonder if they make up a bunch of cakes, freeze them, then microwave them and slap fresh frosting on them whenever they need one. I'm just glad that we got impatient and ate the cupcakes at the party instead of being in a very embarrassing position trying to feed rancid cake to our guests.

I ordered a birthday cake for a surprise party for one of my bandmates on Saturday. I had a very specific design in mind (electric guitar) and I relayed all the info to the nice lady who took my order over the phone. When I arrived, the cake was EXACTLY what I wanted, right down to the correct colors and even little musical notes scattered about. The cake itself was super moist and fresh, chocolate with a fabulously creamy swiss chocolate filling and perfectly sweet and creamy vanilla buttercream frosting. OMG! The only thing I'm bitter about is that I only got one piece! WAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!

I decided to do a last minute celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary. Groupon came through with a Cakes for Karen coupon. I was nervous when I called since I was giving almost no lead time but they came through! We decided not to take advantage of the amazing decorations offered (for extra $) but even so, the cake was BEAUTIFUL. More importantly it was DELICIOUS. The stars aligned with Groupon and Cakes by Karen so I give them 5 stars!

Want a typical wedding cake ? well they have them. All white covered about 40 different flavours, pictures of tons of design. All very traditional, and if it is your thing looks like they are doing it well. No need for appointment to taste just show up and they have about 6 flavours to try. If you want something they don't have they can bake it and arrange a day with you.
