Holy crap on a cracker! Absolutely one of the best places for cowboy cooking. When we arrived there was a short wait due to it being burger Monday, but needless to say, it was totally worth it! While waiting we spoke to some of the locals about the area food establishments and they recommended this place above all others. When we finally got in our hostess was super nice and our waitress was awesome :). We ordered an appetizer of half sized nachos. All I can say about that was that they were a meal by themselves! My hubby and I only ate half of them because we saw what the burgers looked like and they were very large. I ordered the Baja burger and my hubby ordered the gunny burger. The main courses come with a healthy portion of sides which is nice. The hubby had fries and I had the coleslaw. The only thing that I can say that we both had an issue with was that the buns were a little dry and the coleslaw really had no flavor. Overall this is a great place to go. The atmosphere went right along with the cowboy theme which was super cute. Definitely a must go to place to eat whenever you are in Gunnison, CO!

We are visiting our son who lives in Gunnison and this is the place he took us for our first meal in beautiful Gunnison. Him and his two friends all had the beer cheese soup. I tried a bite and it was delicious. We are from wisconsin so we've tried a lot of beer cheese soup. This was good. My husband had the chicken ceasar salad and said it was delicious. It was beautifully presented. I had a veggie sandwich and fries that were very good. The bread was a little dry. My son had the French dip....said that's what he always gets and loved it. Atmosphere is very western. Service was fast and friendly.

Great food, incredible service. They make you feel at home. The burgers are assume. The waitress's are cute collage girls.

For a decent burger or typical American meal, I'd recommend this spot. My son inhaled it after a long day driving. The burger was very large and toppings were plentiful. The fries were typical skinny fries, but generous amount and not overly salty. I had a grilled chicken breast with guacamole on top ( sandwich from menu minus the bun). Chicken had very little seasoning, but was very juicy and the guacamole was very tasty. Service was quick and friendly.

We've been to the Gunnisack several times and I'm not quite sure why I never wrote a review. Our experiences here have always been positive. Most recently we were here for Monday night $5 burgers. The place was packed but they found a place for our party of 8 including two kids. For as crazy busy as they were, the service was very good and the food came out hot and tasty. We asked for separate checks and our server said they didn't ordinarily do that, but she did it anyway and we were grateful. We'll definitely come back!

We have made 2 visits to Gunnisack while here in Gunnison. We will definitely return. The fish Taco is very good, the hamburgers very good. The creamy tomato basil soup is the best I have ever had. The entire staff is friendly, very efficient and know what they are doing. Plenty of servers to handle the crowd, and they are constantly checking on customers and helping each other out. Prices are reasonable and food prep time is well within expectations. The desserts are unique and very large, and can feed 2 people.

A great place to grab a burger and a beer for lunch. Especially a good choice after the farmer's market set up nearby. Grabbed lunch here one afternoon and enjoyed a good burger and beer. It's your typical casual environment, nothing fancy. Great service that was quick and the food was nothing to complain about. I'd definitely go back again when in town. Glad I stopped by!

Food was good but the cook was spitting something in a milkjug (spittoon) I watched while waiting. I think its what made the food so good!

It's located on the quaint downtown strip in Gunnison next to the Gunnison Brewery. The wife and friend had the standard hamburger and fries, which we quite standard with the exception of the great bun. I had the "Catfish Special" which wasn't like the typical catfish you'd expect at a diner. Think of a Red Lobster style thickly breaded gigantic fish filet instead of delicious flaky, thin breading. It's a shame. We skipped the famed Gunnisack Cookie in favor of beer next door. Decor was kitschy diner along with every tin Colorado brewery sign you could imagine. One corner even had a Denver Broncos shrine complete with Starting Lineup figures in the original packages. Overall, forgettable cheap eats.

This place has great specials and a pretty creative menu. The waitstaff was prompt and friendly. We didn't preview menu ahead of time and only found a few non fried options. What we had was above average though. Only other issue is we ate there in a hot day and it was hot inside.

Linguine with fresh veggies and housemade marinara, fresh ground burger with house baked bun - what a find this place was! Delish!!

Best food in town! This is where the locals eat. Get a burger - they are the best you'll ever have. Or, if you want to be healthier, try the grilled salmon salad. And, do not forget to have a cookie for dessert.

The service was nice, I will say that. Food was only ok. I had a cup of vegetable soup that was decent. We split the Arizona chicken burger and it had zero flavor. It needed some sort of spicy mayo or guacamole or something. I thought the green chiles would be great but it was just one big green chile laying across the top and had no heat. The fries were pretty good but they have off brand ketchup so it's kind of gross. The water is TERRIBLE. It tastes like it came from the bathroom. I don't know if this is a town problem or a restaurant problem. We were forced to drink beer. ha ha I wouldn't return to this place. I'm sure there are better choices in a college town to be found.

Definitely one of the best burgers I've ever had, and the service was excellent.

Great bar/restaurant with interesting and delicious food menu. Casual and low key. Got bone in buffalo wings. Plenty hot and meaty. Gunny Knot pretzel are also good. And SW Egg Rolls were like mini chimichangas. Big serving there. Great dinner or apps and drinks place in Gunnison.

Really freakin good. I had the Tucson club wrap and it was excellent. Sweet potato fries were really good too and service was super fast. I would recommend this place.

The food was all delicious!! Everything there seems to be made from scratch with high quality ingredients. A true rarity in today's world. I would highly recommend this place!! And we'll definitely be back!!!

Great place with very delicious food! I have been eating there for over 6 months, and every new meal is a surprise! There is a wide variety of burgers - chili burger, guacamole, maple pecan, and etc. Chicken fried steak is phenomenal! Salads have a wide choice as well. Staff is nice and friendly. The only disadvantage of this place is a short liquor list. However, it's a cowboy restaurant, not a bar. Overall 4.5 out of 5!

The gunnisack boasts that most sauces, buns, and random things are made in house. Well, that's not something to boast about if your 'house' wimps at making food. The place is not much to look at, and with all the awards they adamantly boast about throughout the store front, we thought what they lacked in decor they'd make up in flavor. Firstly, it's a little overpriced. And my beer tasked sour, only it wasn't a 'sour' beer. Rather, it was a shiner that tasted like it had gotten warm, and then was refrigerated again. I got a $13 burger, and asked for a special request which the waitress forgot. When I got my burger, the bun was stale. And they put no condiments on the burger. This would have been fine, only there was nothing on the table and it took four tries to flag down a server. Before she returned, I gave it my best to try to eat the fern thing. The Tomato was rancid. No bother, I removed it. I asked for the burger medium well, and got one patty so raw I could taste it, and it was bloody, and the other so burned it was falling apart. I guess the average of the two patties was medium well? I ate less than half the burger and the waitress didn't see anything weird about it. I didn't want to complain, because we were in a rush. I wish I had though. May have been a bad day for them.

This was not "Award" worthy fare! Went during Happy Hour, we were the only three in the place on a Friday evening. They had $2.50 drafts and $2.50 loose meat sandwiches. ....asked what was in their Loose Meat sand? A; it varies day to day! Huh? So I asked if that meant whatever roadkill they picked up? Three sponges with what appeared to be meat arrived. ....wow dry, like Death Valley dry! So we decided to order their Wings and Texas Fries, it had to be good right? Uh No! $13 for 7 wings and Like $8 or $9 for fries with what tasted like Powdered Mac n Cheese was all we could take! I don't know if this was just a bad Friday or they just suck that bad. There is nothing that would make me want anything from the Gunnisack! Horrible food!

The best- very best- burger I have ever eaten! Our waitress was knowledge about beer and helped us choose the perfect brew to match the beef. Cannot say enough about our waitress- she treated each table of patrons (and the place was full) as though they were the most fascinating and important people ever. The hostess showed us kindness while demonstrating a wicked sense of humor. Wish I had one of those perfect, juicy burgers right now!

Made the mistake of arriving on kids eat free night. Was like a daycare in there! The mustard was house made and delicious.

We came for an early dinner after a competition; we were starving. The food was delicious and made from scratch. The blue cheese salad dressing was fresh and yummy and the salad was very fresh too. The cheeseburger was especially good - simple, cooked perfectly. Chicken sandwich was pretty good too, guacamole on the sandwich was great. The homemade cookie with ice cream for dessert was incredible. I would come here again. Margarita was mediocre but I didn't come for the drinks.

Food not good. Son had mac and cheese, and barely touched it. I had soup - broth decent, but that's it - just broth. Was supposed to have vegetables and beef in it, but nothing but a pepper or two. Should have paid attention to some of the reviews. Save your money.

This place is great! The hamburgers are delicious, as is the sandwiches and the appetizers and oh my God those cookies. The servers are knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. The last time we went, the place was packed, but the servers were always there to help. I've had dreams about the snicker doodle cookie, okay? Just trust me on this place and try it. It's some good home cookin'. The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is kind of pricey.

My brother just moved here and we are visiting him from CO Springs. This place was amazing. I will be visiting my brother more just to eat here! The food was delicious, the cookie was to die for (a MUST), waitress was awesome and the owners were so friendly. Family friendly 100% and a relaxing and cool atmosphere. Did I say I loved it? Bc we absolutely did love it!

Deeeeeeliiiiiiish! Great find while camping at Blue Mesa Reservoir. Burger ground in house. Try the homemade snicker doodle. If you're looking for relief from Sysco try this place.

After a day of 4-wheeling we spied the catfish special on Friday and Saturday night. Fish was awesome. Toped it off with peach/southern comfort bread pudding equally awesome. Service was great to.

Contrary to some others Yelpers' experiences, our service was just fine. The food, however, was unremarkable. Guac burger was incredibly greasy - soaked through the bottom bun. The guac and sauce were spicy, but in the way of a mild kick with little flavor behind it. I upgraded to sweet potato fries, and they were okay. Nothing special about this place. There is a lot of food to be had in Gunnison, and I wish we had listened to reviews and gone someplace a bit more memorable than this. Or, we could have just gone to Sonic and gotten a burger at least 3 times better than this one.

If anyone cared enough to ask what my least favorite kind of food would be, the most likely answer that person (who would probably be my mom) would get would be--an emphatic--bar/pub food (except mozzarella sticks, duh). I think it's the sandwich emphasis that throws me off, since I'm not big into bread. I'm telling you all this only to highlight what a big deal this is -- I went with two friends and we all LOVED our food, myself included. Service was extremely friendly and attentive and I thought the overall atmosphere was very cute. Definitely were some local families in there enjoying their meals. A few takeaways: A) the buns are ridiculous: you can tell they bake them here. Like I said, I'm not really into "samiches," but I thoroughly enjoyed putting down every little piece of my enormous grilled chicken/pepperjack monster, including the bun. B) I didn't try the fries, and I would definitely recommend getting the Sonoran salad (it's this perfect little cold mix of beans, corn and tomatoes, with a nice cilantro kick) on the side. Whoa! C) My sis (I know I said friends: I lied) ordered the chili and it was also extremely well-received. I had a few bites and would agree -- recommended. D) I forget what my non-sister friend got but I think it was a salad, and I felt awkward asking to try her food: still, I can vouch that she liked it! Solid choice in the wondrous town of Gunnison, CO.

It's a notch above above typical diner/bar food. Decent pasta with gunni sauce (blend of Parm, artichoke, sour cream), side salad was fresh. My husband blue cheese burger was good, nothing disappointing or exceptional about it. Food was fine, albeit a bit pricey for the value.

Had lunch here last Saturday - my first day ever in beautiful Gunnison, Co. The ambiance of the place is very much western diner-esque. The place had a decent late lunch crowd considering it was after the lunch rush and in the off season. I ordered their Chuckwagon Chili - served in a bread bowl and glass of water. The service was prompt and attentive. When the food came out, I dug right in! The chili was very thick - and sweet. It tasted like they had made it with some sort of western BBQ sauce. It's not like any Chili I've ever tasted before and it's nothing like the Chili I make. With all of that out of the way - it was a very tasty, yet hearty Chili. I enjoyed trying something new! Chili was $8.95 plus tax - total bill was $9.69.
