Great food. Fast and friendly service. I come here all the time and I'm never disappointed. 5 stars.

Sad news... La Carreta appears to be under new management. I was very open minded to the changes but when I went here a week ago, I was heartbroken... THE MENU HAS CHANGED. I almost left the restaurant because the new menu did not include the old menu items. The old menu items are what made this joint great in the first place! Bring back the old #5. This is a demand by the "old customers". As a customer for 10 years, you can't do this to us. We feel betrayed and forced to find a new Mexican restaurant. The green chile is what I feel in love with. After searching on their new menu, which is HUGE and appears to be exactly like Three Margaritas, I ended up ordering the chili cheese fries because the old #5 is nowhere to be found. From what I can tell, the green chile hasn't changed.... yet, at least. On a positive note, the wait staff has always been friendly. Goodbye to the old La Carreta... you will be dearly missed. It feels as if we are breaking up for good. (Sigh)

Awesome food! The salsa was worth every bite. And the supreme nachos were out of this world. The ambience was authentic and felt like a family home. And its not expensive that you would have to break your bank

Great salsa. Good service. Fresh chicken without lots of grease. The hard shell tacos had an incredible homemade taco shell.

Sometimes I forget to review the places I go to regularly for some reason. This tiny place has been feeding me since 2007 maybe. A very great spin on green chili. Unlike any other place I've tried in Colorado. They can make it mild, medium, or hot. Just ask your server. My favorite dish here is their #8 burrito with carnitas. It has beans, cheese, and of course green chili. The carnitas is perfectly grilled. Think close to a burnt ends sandwich. Other favorites are the tamales, taco salad (which you can add carnitas to), and tacos. Their prices have gone up but still reasonable compared to other local Mexican restaurants.

Green Chile is awesome! It has this orangey hue and almost cinnamon undertone. Not sure what's going on, but it's legit. They have this home cooking vibe and what I mean is that sometimes things taste one way and another time it tastes different. That can mess with the consistency which is not a big deal for me. Salsa is on point too. I think there's some oregano and pickled jalapenos in there that make it all work. Sometimes I just pick up chips and salsa instead of the store bought crizzap.

The green chile is the best around. Service can't be beat. I've been bringing my family here as long as I can remember. This might be the only place we all agree on! I don't know what my favorite thing is -- everything?

This is a good choice for mexican food. The building is newly remodeled and very clean. The food is quite good and the portions are generous for the price. The staff are helpful and welcoming, so give them a try.

This is a locally owned restaurant with a delicious menu and friendly, fast service. I have eaten Mexican food all over town and have to say this is one of the best places. The owners are from Mexico so they know how to do it right!

The green chili here is both flavorful and hot. Of course, you can order it in mild, medium or hot, just in case you don't have a high tolerance for heat. The smoked chicken enchiladas in blue corn tortillas are another good bet, as is the carnitas.

Bargain basement Mexican in a pinch. Still with El Amigo just down the road I wouldn't head back unless you are facing down Friday evening lines.

The green chili is amazing! I have no idea what spices are used, but it's unique and so delicious. I ordered the green chili to dip my chips into, and it was fabulous. I ordered the Smoked Chicken Enchiladas, which again had a unique flavor and tasted great. You can tell this is a family-run restaurant, and the service have always been good. My kids get extra attention from the servers when they speak Spanish, which is great!

I have to disagree with some of the previous reviews. I really liked this place. It wasn't busy, our server was very nice and pleasant, and the Marg's were tasty. The Carnitas were excellent. The pork was tender and marinated just right. The Chile relleno plate was good as well. Everything tasted good! The green chile as Patick S. mentioned was tasty. My wife and I stopped eating Mexican food for a few years because most of it is "fake" mexican or trendy expensive Mexican food. This place serves real mexican food. Reasonably priced and tasty. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the chips were kind of stale. Warm fresh chips are the best. If you're looking for high brow Mexican food, this place isn't it. But if you're looking for reasonably priced yummy food and drinks without the crowds, check out La Carreta.

The price is about right for the two meals we had, but the quality is low. My chicken chimichanga was fine except that the chicken was really tough, which suggests either overlooking or reheating. The rest of the food tasted fine, but wasn't super flavor able and did nothing to distinguish itself from anywhere else. Other than that it was cheap and cheesy food, it would hit the spot if you're craving acceptable Mexican food. This would easily be a three star review except for the aforementioned chicken.

I got the chicken enchiladas and they were DELICIOUS!!!! I WILL be ordering from them again! Yum! I didn't go there myself, but my husband and in-laws went there and brought me to go! Definitely try this place!

This place is not very good. Terrible service. We asked for more chips, never received any. I get this is a mom and pop type restaurant but service and food need to get better or I would be surprised if this place stayed opened.

    A) NOT A CHAIN. B) Family run and they treat you and feed you like you are family. C) Best green chili in the area. D) They actually know how to make soft chili rellenos unlike most places which butcher them. E) Their carnitas taste like they really put time into it, not just cook it and throw it on a plate. Love it, love the staff and honestly worth the trip.

I went here for lunch with some friends that are regulars. It was a bit of a late lunch so it was pretty slow. They took our order pretty fast and the food came out fast. Once it was out I never saw the waitress again. Even getting the check took some effort. She definitely seemed to recognize my friends but I guess being a regular doesn't get you service. I had the combo with a chili relleno and chicken enchilada. The enchilada was decent (I like my chicken a little more shredded so its easier to eat, but that's just being picky. The relleno is wrapped in a wonton wrapper and then fried. Different but it worked and was lighter than some of the battered rellenos I have had. The odd thing was the cheese didn't melt all the way while it was frying. So it was a bit of a chili with a chunk of cheese in the middle instead of a yummy melty chili and cheese concoction. There was some sort of green chili over the whole thing but it was more like green chili gravy. I didn't have a single chunk of pork or even a lump of chili or tomato. I am used to chili with more texture in it. As far as spice I had the 1/2 and 1/2 which was definitely a mistake. I should have gone with the spicy as the 1/2 and 1/2 didn't have any heat at all. Overall it was ok I love mexican so hardly ever turn it down, but I don't think I will be running to the car the next time someone mentions La Carreta.

Staff is not very attentive & took a long time to take the order, put it in. Kept asking if ok but not really meaning it. Not recommended for anything enjoyable, especially if alone. Margarita was not good & i left over half of mine! Lock your vehicle there are many break ins/ thefts

NEW OWNERSHIP = CUTTING CORNERS. We are long time regulars (we loved loved loved this place; see my previous review) and came here one night to find a "new ownership" banner on the building. EVERY item we ordered was smaller and/or used fewer ingredients. Queso Fundido: half the size. Enchilada Ranchero: missing guacamole and sour cream. Kid Enchilada: missing rice. Kid chocolate milk: almost no chocolate (the kids used to love coming here because the milk was so chocolatey -- they noticed the change immediately). What a disappointment. It's clear the "new owner" is trying to trim anywhere and everywhere possible to save pennies. Too bad, because they definitely lost at least one family of customers in the process. The staff is still friendly, but given the other changes, we feel cheated. We'll choose El Señor Sol from now on.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
